The Dark Room Of The Room
The Dark Room
The dancers in the room constantly remain in contact with anything the dancers touch. The dancers
progress from a wall to the arms of a person to a floor. The connection remains the same through these
actions. The points of contact remain with the body, and the dancer starts exploring different
perspectives of what the body can do with in relation to the ground.
The dancers consistently in contact with the objects around them. In the beginning, a woman walks on
the side of the wall while walking into an object. As a woman in a white dress comes out of a
swinging door, she walks forward with her body leaning on the wall. The women maintain the contact
of her left hand with the side left side of the wall. The room is full of chairs, so the women also bumps
into an object with a loud noise while leaning and maintaining the contact with the wall. The noise is
loud and drags on for the audience. The object would be a black chair. The black chairs are not
noticeable because the room at the very beginning of the dance is very dark. It is not until several
minutes into the play that you notice there are chairs are in the room.
Another instance of contact in the dance is when the women heads to her chair, she stands and takes of
her dress. The dress coming off revealing the bright white skin in contrast with the dark room. The
women stand briefly, looking straight ahead, and proceeds downward in a direct motion. The women
connect herself with the chair and the table

Imagery In Anne Bradstreet s The Author To Her Book
One point or another in a person s life, he or she wonders what it would be like if an inanimate object
was alive. Anne Bradstreet does just this in her poem The Author to Her Book. She brilliantly takes
the fears and worries of publishing a book into treating it as if it was her own child and, in many
respects, that is what a book is to its author. There are many elements used to give the reader the sense
what the author sees the book as through metaphors, complete imagery to visualize the scene, and
voice to let the reader know just how difficult it is as an author but not just an author, a female author.
To emphasize, being an author is very tough, being a female author can be even tougher in an era
where wealthy male writers and critics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bradstreet successfully aids readers with this with the voice she gives the Author in this poem.
Revisiting all the metaphors and visuals, it s easy to at least see that this is a motherly like person who
regrets the fact she must boot what she feels is a somewhat messy, child out the door. It s a voice
filled, once again, with worry, regret, a motherly figure hoping her child will find its way in the world.
If one wonders why somebody would have so much worry for the flaws of their creation, it is
important to note two factors. Right out the gate the reader knows this author is poor, so she needs
money. This is revealed when she says, And for thy Mother, she alas is poor, (Line 23). Seventeenth
century is not like today where poor means the government will at least help to an extent, so the
person isn t out of luck. There were efforts in the seventeenth century to help the poor but for the most
part, that person was kind of out of luck. The second thing is just being an author in this time. In every
respect, line 23 right here draws conclusion to the voice of this poem, especially if the reader hasn t
read it already. The other part of the voice that is given out in this piece of work is this tone caring and
fear mixed together. Leading off is the fear factor which the Author has every right to be since

The Case Of Pope V. Illinois
On July 21, 1983 local police detectives in Rockford, Illinois entered two different local book stores
and purchased six magazines. Soon after exiting the store, police separately arrested clerks Richard
Pope and Charles Morrison. Both men were charged and convicted for selling obscene materials, in
accordance with an Illinois statute. On appeal, both petitioners argued that the Illinois statute was
unconstitutional to both the first and Fourteenth Amendments. They reasoned that the state was
required to make the value determination by an objective standard rather than community standard in
conformance with the Miller decision, and the juries in this case had been instructed to judge whether
the material had value as viewed by ordinary adults in the state of Illinois. The Appellate Court
rejected the both petitioners arguments and the Illinois Supreme court denied requests for further
review, but the United States Supreme Court granted certiorari and merged both cases for
reexamination.
The case, Pope v. Illinois, was argued on February 24, 1987. Glenn A. Stanko represented the
petitioners whose argument was: The Illinois Obscenity Statute violated the First and Fourteenth
Amendments by allowing the value element to be determined by community standards and instructing
the jury to do so. Therefore, the convictions against petitioners must be reversed because the statute is
invalid. Glenn Stanko made it clear that the petitioners did not argue whether the materials were

Analysis Of Andy Goldsworthy s Piece Ice Spiral
Thinking about a tree, one might think about the leaves and how they could symbolize balance,
growth, and harmony. Or one might think about how a tree represents nature itself by symbolizing
such attributes as strength, stability, diversity and withstanding the greatest of challenges to survive.
Andy Goldsworthy is a British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist who produces site specific
land art which embody these characteristics and represent nature as a whole. Goldsworthy s process is
to be as involved in nature as he possibly can and to produce sculptures to draw out the character of
the environment. He seeks to draw emphasis to the beauty and exquisiteness of nature while also
displaying the stages of life nature goes through; it grows, stays and decays as an integral part of the
circle of life. Goldsworthy s piece Ice Spiral: Tree Soul, exemplifies these distinctive elements and
displays his unique technique in a way that captures the essence of nature. When one first looks upon
the photograph of Tree Soul, it almost looks unreal or that the ice spiral surrounding the tree was
digitally added to the image of the tree. The spiral ice sculpture is perfectly molded to wrap around the
tree and opens the eyes of the audience in sensing the beauty and multidimensional details of the
natural world. When creating his art pieces, Goldsworthy uses all materials of the natural world such
as twigs, flowers, snow, stone, leaves and ice. He only uses natural materials found

Representation Of Male And Females
There are typical representations for both males and females. Usually the well known representation
of a male is to be strong, manly and brave. The typical representation of a female is to be loving,
innocent and a mother. This is what each gender s representation usually was back then. Nowadays,
the representation of each males and females has changed. More and more males are taking on the
jobs of women as in being the one to take care of and spend the most time with the kids. This happens
because more and more women are becoming very independent and making careers for themselves.

People are focusing on the movement and they are getting their point across. They try to promote
women are strong and are independent just like men are. They keep fighting to earn the same amount
of money for the same job that a man works. Some states have their male employees earn just a little
bit more money than the female employee of the state. a majority of women do not like the idea and
are wanting to fight back so they can get all the money that they earned just like any man of the state
should earn. The youth girls of America are the people who the feminists are trying to target and tell
them they can do whatever they want if they work hard for it. This audience of people they try
targeting because they know they are obviously the future of America and when they grow up to keep
fighting for feminism, they will be stronger because they got a good taste of it their whole lives
growing up. Boys are told to be strong, manly, independent and to provide for women and children.
Girls are told to be loving for their children and to be depended of a man. This was the norm until
recently feminism has taken over for girls to grow up and be what they want to be. The gender
representation of women has changed to, if they wanted, strong and independent for themselves so
they do not have to depend on a man for a good living. In one of Mr. Clean s advertisements, they

Remember The Titans Segregation
Remember The Titans is a great football movie, and an even better civil rights movie. The movie
shows how TC Williams handled desegregation and how the football team brought the community
together. When the white players and black players came together for the first time, they did not get
along. Coach Herman Boone took the team to a camp, and the players started to get along. When the
players went back to school, they experienced the racism all over again. Eventually, the team helped
the school and community get over the desegregation. The movie takes place in 1971, and TC
Williams High School was one of the first high schools in the area to desegregate. The type of
segregation that the school had was de facto, which means that blacks and whites could go to school
together. However, there were still segregated schools because the kids in a neighborhood went to
school together, and the neighborhoods were usually full of people of one race. Brown vs. Board of
Education was an event that led to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important part of the trip was that the players became close to each other and the team was a
family. Coach Boone made all of the players learn about each other and become comfortable with
each other. The camp was also essential for conditioning and learning plays. Seeing how hard the
players were pushed, you can tell that they would be in very good shape. There was a big difference of
how the team was when they boarded the bus to go to the camp, and when they arrived home. I think
that going to the camp was one of the biggest reasons for the teams success. In conclusion, Remember
the Titans was a very powerful movie. It was very enjoyable to watch, and is personally one of my
favorite movies. Remember the Titans shows how a football team helps their community overcome
the integration of blacks into TC Williams High School. I would highly recommend this movie to
anybody, even if they didn t like

Cuban Economic Crisis Essay
The Special Period in Cuba was an prolonged time of economic crisis that began in early 90s mainly
due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union. By this time, Cuba was enforced with embargo by the U.S.,
as a result, it has limited oil supply. Peak oil is the time when oil production will reach its maximum
rate, and move toward an irremediable decline. As a result of insufficient usage of oil, they lack
pesticides and chemical fertilizer for agriculture, no fuel for agricultural machinery operation, no
electricity at home for hours everyday. Under such a challenging circumstance, Cubans show us the
what they could do to survive with a very limited oil supply. They implement urban planning, organic
farming, public transportation, renewable energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the continuing embargo and the loss of a foreign market, Cuba do not have enough imported
food. Without a substitute for fossil fuel based farming, agricultural production dropped dramatically.
Cubans started to grow organic produce, created biopesticides and biofertilizers, and included more
vegetables into their diets. Most of the land in Cuba is chemical free, the vegetables sold in the
marketplace are mostly organic. The necessity to introduce agriculture into the city has began with the
loss of more than 50% of Cuba s oil imports and 85% of its trade economy. Public policies also
encouraged urban organic agriculture through the National Programme of urban Agriculture, which
was aimed to support urban farmers to produce diversified, healthy and fresh products. They also
allowed private entrepreneurial farmers to use public land to grow and sell their fruits and vegetables.
They encouraged farmers to move to rural areas and reorganized their lands to fulfilled the agricultural
needs. While certifying food security, Cuba s shift to organic agriculture also had a positive impact on
people s income. Moreover, the lack of pesticides has a positive long term impact

Criminalization Of Transgender People Essay
I will be using library research to discuss the criminalization of transgender people in the United
States. Criminalization of a minority group is when laws are passed to oppress or control a minority
group. Criminalization is an important legal dynamic to understand because usually when it is present,
it is covert. But examining specific examples of criminalization in the past, we can understand its
impact today and how to combat it. There have been models to put criminalization into perspective,
and to observer how legal systems can come to such conclusions.
There are two models by which criminalization can manifest. The first is the consensus model. This
theory explains social norms, or a general consensus under which people in a society ... Show more

Relationship Between Teacher And Students
Relationships in the classroom
Building a relationship between the teacher and the student is not always easy, but it is necessary and
important. In the first lecture of this course, the importance of a relationship between the teacher and
the students was discussed [1]. Building a good relationship in the classroom setting is not only a tool
for building a better learning environment, but also a way to make a teacher s work matter. If the
relationship between the teacher and the student is bad, usually the student feels pushed out and
rejected and therefore develops a bad relationship with the subject and with learning. A large body of
research supports the idea that a good teacher student relationship helps the students feel better and
have higher academic achievements [2] [5]. A good teacher, one that has a good relationship with
his/her students can manage to instill a growth mindset in their students and help them achieve more
also in the future, when the said teacher is not present anymore.
Building a relationship takes time and effort, as humans do not immediately accept strangers in their
lives and don t usually trust others unless that trust is earned. For a teacher, earning the trust of a
student can be a very complicated process, based on different experiences and different views on
various topics. There are three main factors that set the basis for the classroom relationships: the way
in which we interact, the content of the interactions and the environment

How Do Earnings Numbers Relate to Stock Returns? A Review of Classic Accounting Research with
Updated Evidence
D. Craig Nichols and James M. Wahlen
SYNOPSIS: An extensive body of academic research in accounting develops theory and empirical
evidence on the relation between earnings information and stock returns. This literature provides
important insights for understanding the relevance of financial reporting. In this article, we summarize
the theory and evidence on how accounting earnings information relates to firms’ stock returns,
particularly for the benefit of students, practitioners, and others who may not yet have been exposed to
this literature. In addition, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We use the updated empirical analysis to assess the extent to which the findings in three seminal
papers still hold, and provide some additional results that do not appear in the original work. This
paper can serve as a resource for those interested in a deeper appreciation for the capital market
consequences associated with accounting earnings. We organize this review using the three theoretical
links between earnings and share prices developed by Beaver (1998). These “three links” are: 1)
current period earnings provides information to predict future periods’ earnings, which 2) provide
information to develop expectations about dividends in future periods, which 3) provide information
to determine share value, which represents the present value of expected future dividends. We describe
how this theoretical structure provides a practical framework for analyzing and understanding the
valuation implications of earnings information in the capital market. We then provide empirical
evidence on the relation between earnings and stock returns by extending three classic studies using
data from 1988 through 2002. Our first set of empirical results provides evidence on links 1–3 by

Verbal Communication In The Movie, Psych
From this clip in the movie, Psych, we can clearly interpret some of the key characteristics of their
relationship even without any verbal communication. For example, we know that the two people know
each other by the way they stare at one another. We see that this first interaction in the clip is a
moment of disbelief as it is obvious they were not expecting to see each other. These few seconds give
us some background into their relationship and the way they view each other, which is not all positive.
By their facial expressions we also know that they both feel displeased in this interaction. The way
they lower their eyebrows and their lips gives us the indication they are unhappy and neither of them
are trying to hide this nonverbal communication. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is evident by the women when she looks at her watch. They also communicate some adaptors to
make them feel more comfortable in a situation that is not easy for them to handle. The man cracks his
knuckles, while the women twiddles and taps the pen on her hand. Both are indicators of there attempt
to feel more comfortable. I think one of the most prominent aspects of this clip is the man and his
refusal to tell the women she looks good. We are given the implication of the cowboy syndrome. The
man thinks highly of his status and image, and to show signs of affection to this particular women was
out of the question. He is bold in his statement of not showing any emotion and we can tell that the

Also, the shapes in the background are fuzzier and assumed in piece one where the shapes in piece
two are sharper and more defined. Another formal element is texture. The first piece, according to the
text, is a floor mosaic which is composed of many colored tesserae that were laid down in irregular,
curving lines, which effectively imitated painted brushstrokes. The individual tiles are more apparent
when viewed closely. This gives the piece a grainy and earthy texture, where it physically looks
bumpy. The textbook says it has foreshortening, the illusion created on a flat surface in which figures
and objects appear to recede or project sharply into space. The second piece was drawn with tempera
on parchment. This makes the piece look smooth, flat, and two dimensional. The next element is color.
The hues in both pieces are relatively earth toned. Both pieces have a low level of saturation. In piece
one, the sky is mustard brown with a section of mint green that frames the boulder that the male
centaur is holding. The rocky scenery has browns and creams with a dull green and brown center. A
bright green patch of pine trees is in the corner that contrasts with the sky and rocks. The colors to the
second piece are similar in the sense that it has low saturation. The colors are dull and warm. This
piece utilizes reds and oranges, in the serpent, that the first piece does not. Because of the tan

The Cultural Issues Of Christianity
Moving on to the cultural issues, Christianity mainly in particular faces the problem of having certain
holidays such as Christmas and Easter being secularized in the UK. These holidays which are held by
Christians in the UK are now pagan holidays for all faiths by introducing figures such as Santa Claus
and the Easter Bunny respectively. As of today Christians are campaigning for Christmas and other
religious holidays to be celebrated for what it really is according to BBC News (2012). When looking
at Islamic festivals however, there are so little in comparison. Twice a year they have Eid. The social
issue is that generally children have to attend school and people go to work as they are not considered
public holidays. PRC (2014) states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that these cultural issues involve the UK government plan to secularize the country is
resulting in reducing Christianity in the UK.
For Islam, there are cultural issues such as the religion being associated with terrorism and Muslims
find this as associative discrimination Carter Esdale (2015). This is because there are extreme groups
that conducted terrorist attacks in the various nations claiming that they are defending Islam. In the
UK, there are some Muslims that feel that it is harder to socially integrate into society as some of them
are associated with this issue. Wiseman (2014: p314) states that the extreme groups accounts for a
small percentage of the Muslim population and the entire Muslim population is now generalized to be
part of this issue and as a result they feel that their true intentions of Islam is now being
misinterpreted. This means that Muslims are fighting for Islam to be seen as a religion of peace and
not war and that they do intend to be part of society.
The last cultural issue which Shah (2014: p245) shows is that there are Muslims in the UK that tend to
stay together with their particular groups as a means of keeping their cultural values, faith and their
identity and this is not for themselves, but for the upcoming generation on a patrilineal basis. This
means the Muslim families would want to cluster together have their generation have the same

when the movement for women s rights was beginning to outbreak. Immediately after the Civil War,
Susan B. Anthony, a strong and outspoken advocate of women s rights, demanded that the Fourteenth

The Plea Bargain Is A Vital Part Of The Criminal Justice...
The plea bargain is a vital part of the criminal justice system today. Before the 1800s when an offender
was caught there would be a trial and verdict. The plea bargain are for defendant s to plead guilty to a
lesser offense or to at least one charge especially if there are multiple indictments. Defendants will
plead guilty in hopes of leniency, and at least 90 percent of criminal cases end in a plea bargains. A
majority of criminal cases in many jurisdictions will end in a plea bargaining. In the case North
Carolina v. Alford, Mr. Alford is accused of Capital murder. The penalty for a guilty plea is
imprisonment for life, however, if the defendant pleads innocent and the jury rules him guilty the
death penalty attaches. Prior to the trial, Mr. Alford accepted a plea bargain. The bargaining requires
him to plead guilty to murder in the second degree, the penalty of which is 30 years.
Later on Alford does appeals his case, stating that his agreement to the bargain was involuntary as it
was driven by fear of the death penalty. Mr. Alford s conviction was overturned however, the Supreme
Court states that a guilty plea is a voluntary decision and is not compelled within his Fifth Amendment
rights of Self Incrimination. In a 6 to 3 decision, the Court then reverses the appeal and reinstates his
conviction. This is a great example of how the option of plea bargaining continues to be controversial.
This case shows how plea bargaining can work both in favor and negatively

second pans offer about a two and a half octave range, bolstering enough register to play both melody,
harmony and chords. Double seconds are configured with a whole tone scale on each side, which
means chromatic scales would feature alternating notes. Normally double seconds range from a F#3 to
a C#6, but there are double second instruments that go down to E3 and yet support the higher register
of the C#6. This would open up more choices in terms of melodic and harmonic contour for a jazz
soloist, or any soloist or performer for that

Total Forms Control Case Summary
1. Total Forms Control (TFC) fit well into Western s strategy when it was initially implemented. It
allowed Western to offer these value added services to their customers that most of their competitors
did not. Total Forms Control should have increased Western s margins and helped them to increase the
loyalty and number of customers. TFC was not performing up to expectations. It had become an
increasingly time consuming process and profits from TFC had been consistently declining over the
past several years, projected to drop a total of 14% in only two years.
2. The current accounting system charged all customers participating in the TFC program the same
standard rates regardless of the level or frequency of services provided. There ... Show more content

4. Distributing services using activity based costing reveals that Customer A is a highly more
profitable consumer to Western than Customer B, despite identical net sales (see attached). Customer
A uses less storage, delivery services, has fewer requisitions and a smaller inventory balance, making
them a more inexpensive customer to service, in comparison to Customer B.
5. An analysis of the individual customer accounts suggest that TFC s current pricing model is
ineffective. They are undercharging an alarming number of their customers thereby reducing their
overall profitability. Based on this information, managers will hopefully elect to implement the
services based pricing model so that customers are charged based on the services they are actually
consuming. Ideally, changing the current pricing model will resolve the issue of customers reducing
profit by 140% and 60% (Exhibit 8, numbers 3 and 4). If there are still profit draining customers,
management should revisit and assess accordingly, either further increasing fees to those customers so
their contribution is positive, or perhaps dropping these customers to increase overall profitability.
6. I think the largest issues in adopting Service Based Pricing would be the opposition from the
salespeople and the customers. In most cases, fees will increase and it s unlikely that this change will
be welcomed by either party. Western may lose customers if

Thermoregulation And Temperature Essay
Introduction:
The surface temperature of a larger individual will increase more during exercise than that of a smaller
individual. The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the idea that body size may possibly have
a direct correlation with the change of temperature within the body. It ll give insight to the question:
Does body size really have an effect of the change of temperature? In order to test this theroy there
needs to be a clear understanding of the components in the body that contribute to temperature. Those
components are thermoregulation and thermoreceptors. Thermoregulation is the process that allows all
humans to maintain their core internal temperature, this is designed to keep the body regulated as well

Lab Report Lava Flow
Title: How Lava Flows
Background: Viscosity is a liquid s resistance to flow. For example water would have a low viscosity
while syrup has high. The higher temperature the lower viscosity and the lower temperature the higher
viscosity. Cold syrup will move slower than hot syrup because the molecules are more tightly packed
together while hots are very loose and free. Silica will cause the syrups viscosity to increases, so the
more silica it has the more the viscosity will increase. If water is added to syrup the viscosity will
decrease because water has a lower viscosity. Gas can easily escape lava that has a low viscosity while
lava with higher viscosities, gas pressure will build up and might lead to big eruptions.

The lava flow was fast. An error was that the syrup was poured too fast and to much of it came out, so
it may have messed up the time. Viscosity is a liquid s resistance to flow. Velocity is the speed of
something in a given direction. The velocity for team cold was 2 cm/s. In the cold syrup the molecules
are tightly packed together. The viscosity of the is very high since it does not flow very fast. Therefore
it flowed the slowest. The velocity of the team rooms data was 3.7 cm/s. In the room temperature
syrup, the molecules are more loosely bonded. The viscosity of room temperature is less than the
colds. So it flowed a bit more faster then the colds. It flowed faster but not as fast as the hots. The
velocity for team hots data was 6.8 cm/s. In the hots syrup the molecules moved the most freely and
loose. This means since it was the hottest, it has the lowest viscosity so it was able to flow the fastest
out of all of the syrups.Silica affects viscosity because viscosity increases with more silica content,
more silica, more viscosity. Water can change the viscosity of lava. If water is added the viscosity will
decrease. Lava with low viscosity allows gas to escape easily while lava with a higher viscosity gas
pressure builds up and can lead to a huge

In A Pair of Silk Stockings by Kate Chopin, the protagonist, Mrs. Sommers, finds herself in a dilemma
when she is given the responsibility of fifteen dollars and loses her responsibility as a mother as she
spends the the money on herself which showcases the need for self reliance. Being her own
antagonist, Mrs. Sommers is torn between the two roles she has in her life, being her own person and
being a mother. In the beginning of the story we see Mrs. Sommers as a responsible mother that puts
the needs of her children before herself that she forgets to eat lunch. Between getting the children fed
and the place righted, and preparing herself for the shopping bout, she had actually forgotten to eat
any luncheon at all! (pg.31) Mrs. Sommers

Analysis Of Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique
The Feminine Mystique , first published in the year of 1963, is widely acknowledged as one of the
most influential books in the 20th century as well as in the history of feminism. (Fox, 2006) The book
signals the beginning of the second wave of the feminist movement as feminism literature to illustrate
and analyse female problems in 1960s America. (Fox, 2006) At the same time, it is a declaration to
proclaim an era in which American women strove towards the equality that females refused to be
subordinate to patriarchal ideology anymore. In The Feminine Mystique , Betty Friedan for the first
time in history describes the problem that has no name for American women in the 1950s to 1960s. It
was the time just after World War II and men went back form the war frontier to their working
positions, most of the American women went back to the kitchen rather than going out to work as they
had during the war. They were identified by Friedan as suburban housewives (Friedan, 1963:18),
suffered from a common dissatisfaction of their lives, which is called the problem that has no name or
the nameless aching dissatisfaction in the book. By analysing the essence of the problem combined
with a quantity of real life example and previous theories, the author defines the feminine mystique as
the convention that women should become an ideal patriarchal woman in the society where men create
women as capable housewives as well as gentle mothers. (Friedan, 1963:15 28) Betty Friedan

Analyzing Epicurus Letter To Menoecceous
In Letter to Menoecceous, Epicurus outlines the view that life should be and is about maximizing ones
own pleasure. Epicurus importantly notes that pleasure is not necessarily one of a lavish lifestyle, but
where pain is absent in body and soul (Epicurus (1), p. 32). This overarching notion filters into his
ethical philosophies; in the way that one is and should be just while maintaining the aim of
maximizing pleasure. This essay aims to explain the reasons behind Epicurus view that one s life can
maintain justice while focusing on pleasure.
Epicurus empathizes being just does not disrupt the aim to maximize pleasure by defining justice and

Cognitive Exercise
It s getting harder to keep up. You re expected to do more and do it in faster. You have to stay up to
speed on constantly evolving technology for work, and so you know what your kids are doing. It s
enough to leave a person exhausted and does. According to the CDC, approximately 36% of adults
sleep less than 7 hours per night. The cost of these pressures is often a noticeable decline in cognitive
performance. While there isn t much you can do to change those pressures, there are things you can do
to improve your cognitive function.

As schedules tighten and demands mount, exercise is almost always the first thing to go. It makes

Smart Drugs
A more direct path to cognitive enhancement that s popular in tech and startup circles are nootropics.
Broadly speaking, nootropics refer to any supplement or drug that enhances cognitive ability.
A family of drugs known as Racetams are probably the most widely known smart drugs. A study
published in Pharmacopsychiatry in 1999 found that piracetam improved aphasia in acute stroke
patients when compared to placebo. An early study from 1976 showed improvements in verbal
learning after two weeks of taking piracetam. Racetams are thought to work by either activating
acetylcholine receptors or limiting the breakdown of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter
thought to play a crucial role in learning and cognition.
Supplements with some demonstrable enhancement to cognitive ability include L theanine, levodopa,
and tolcapone. Of these, L theanine shows the most promise. A meta analysis conducted by Unilever
suggests that L theanine, in combination with caffeine, improves ...alertness, attentional switching

classified as a Romantic by Nathaniel Hawthorne, dark themes and all.
The story begins with Matthew Maule, the first owner of the land, building a house that is considered
less than average compared to the land. A man, Colonel Pyncheon, wants to take the land and build a
house that would be deemed acceptable compared with the beauty of the area around it. To the
Colonel s frustration, Maule refuses to give up the land. Maule s claim is held for the next following
years, up until he is accused of witchcraft. Rumors arose of Pyncheon being the one behind it, and as
he stood at the front of the crowd, Maule cursed him. (4) Right before his lynching, he yells, God will
give him blood to drink! The Colonel continues to watch the lynching seemingly unaffected by the
curse. Once the Colonel takes the land for himself, he has Maules architect son build the house for
him. Right when the building of the mansion begun, the water in the well lost It´s good taste and

Substance Dualism
According to the ancient theory, the mind is an nonphysical object, which is called as substance
dualism. According to this theory, the mind is a different item from that of the body. The body is a
physical object that is located in the space, whereas the mind is nonphysical object is not located in the
space. Also the body is made up of atoms which has some height and weight, while the mind is not.
According to the substance dualism the mind and body are the two different substances in the world, i)
mental substance and ii) physical substance.
According to the property dualism, there is only one kind of substance exist, but the properties of the
substance varies that gives rise to property dualism. Thus, we should only think about one thing, ...

Minds are not physical objects.
Arugment 1: Could a physical object use language?
By filling the gaps in 1 2 we end up with
1. Minds can use language.
2. No physical object can use language.
Therefore,
3. Minds are not physical objects.
According to Descartes the syntax and symantics of the language are developed inside a nonphysical
objects called mind and it according to him there seems to be a little reason to doubt that a physical
object could use language meaningfully which can be constructed within a physical object. Therefore,
the mind is a nonphysical object that contains language.
Argument 2: Could a physical object reason? Descartes not only doubt that a physical object an
possess a language but also he doubt whether a physical object can engage in reasoning,
Hence the statements 1 2 become,
1. Minds can engage in reasoning.
2. No physical object can engage in reasoning.
Therefore,
3. Minds are not physical objects.
According to this argument it is very difficult to derive the fact that any physical object can engage in
reasoning. Considering mathemetical reasoning, no computers/machines are capable of reasoning or
manipulate something on it own, it is programmed in such a manner to work in such way. Similary,
the brain is a physical object which is programmed by the mind to engage in reasoning. Hence, it says
that the mind is not a physical

Discuss the reasons why the research and development of anti retroviral drugs (ARVs) has impacted
differently on people suffering from HIV/AIDS in developed and developing world
HIV/AIDS still does not have a know cure, but has a treatment that slows down the affects of
HIV/AIDS which is called ARV (anti retroviral drug)
The ARV drug is a very exclusive drug because as it is very expensive, around $400 a month if not
more depending on which stage you are in, and that is a huge dilemma because many people cannot
afford to pay that amount of money so they are not able to receive the treatment.

In Africa the education is something that not everyone gets, so they are not aware about how they get
the disease, how they can prevent it or what are the affects. A reason for why in Africa they do not
receive the education is because there are a very few amount of teachers, and the teachers that they
have may also be contaminated and are not able to execute their job correctly. HIV/AIDS affects
everyone in their community because the disease spreads fast in their case (the people in Africa). This
is due to their sexual behavior.
Their culture does not have monogamy or a custom of only one sexual partner, but they have many
different sexual partners, and that is why HIV/AIDS spreads so quickly in Africa. They also do not use
protection because it is not available to most people and so chances are higher to get HIV/AIDS.
Another cultural aspect is that there is a lot of prejudice against testing. Many people do not want to
get tested for HIV/AIDS because one, they are scared the test might come back positive, second if it
does result positive how will they tell their family/friends and thirdly how will they get the treatment
they need to get. If the people get tested and do want to not tell anyone, because of various reasons,
and as a result the problem amplifies and does not get solved. Another problem for the cultural aspect
is get the people to take responsibility and try to change. Of coarse it is easier to ignore the problem
and pretend it is not there, but

would lead to 34 states and the District of Columbia experiencing funding cuts. Seven of those states
would see cuts of more than $10 billion and 16 states would see a funding increase. The biggest losers
would be states that expanded Medicaid under Obama Care.

Imagine, if you will, a brisk night wind coming fast across a lake carrying a pungent smell, something

wonder if it s that late, or maybe just a slow night. The soft tapping of your shoes on the sidewalk is

holding thoughts of a warm bed in the palm of your hand to keep the chill away. You don t notice at

A valuable lesson you hope to pass on to the next late night pedestrian you and your new friends come
across; Underestimating the potential for a zombie outbreak is a highly dangerous (and foolish)
activity. Preparedness is something one can never have too much of when considering an epidemic of
the walking dead. Some of the basics are: Assessing the potential for a zombie outbreak at any given
time, knowing the four types of zombies and how to respond to each (an absolute must), and most
importantly, you need to have a plan. Step one of the preparation is the easiest: assessing the potential
of, and being on the lookout for, a sudden and massive wave of zombification. I know what you must
be thinking, Zombies? No way, but I beg for your attention on this matter; it could be the difference
between life and death and un death. Ruling out the more extreme, and significantly less likely,
possibilities of sorcery and hell reaching its maximum seating capacity, leaves genetic mutation, viral
infection, and science gone wrong as candidates. For simplicity s sake, we can boil these three causes
down to a disruption of brain chemistry in one way or another. As far as the possibility of an outbreak
goes, in regard to the fundamental corruption of a brain s chemical equilibrium, the risk is exponential.

  • 2. The Dark Room Of The Room The Dark Room The dancers in the room constantly remain in contact with anything the dancers touch. The dancers progress from a wall to the arms of a person to a floor. The connection remains the same through these actions. The points of contact remain with the body, and the dancer starts exploring different perspectives of what the body can do with in relation to the ground. The dancers consistently in contact with the objects around them. In the beginning, a woman walks on the side of the wall while walking into an object. As a woman in a white dress comes out of a swinging door, she walks forward with her body leaning on the wall. The women maintain the contact of her left hand with the side left side of the wall. The room is full of chairs, so the women also bumps into an object with a loud noise while leaning and maintaining the contact with the wall. The noise is loud and drags on for the audience. The object would be a black chair. The black chairs are not noticeable because the room at the very beginning of the dance is very dark. It is not until several minutes into the play that you notice there are chairs are in the room. Another instance of contact in the dance is when the women heads to her chair, she stands and takes of her dress. The dress coming off revealing the bright white skin in contrast with the dark room. The women stand briefly, looking straight ahead, and proceeds downward in a direct motion. The women connect herself with the chair and the table ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Imagery In Anne Bradstreet s The Author To Her Book One point or another in a person s life, he or she wonders what it would be like if an inanimate object was alive. Anne Bradstreet does just this in her poem The Author to Her Book. She brilliantly takes the fears and worries of publishing a book into treating it as if it was her own child and, in many respects, that is what a book is to its author. There are many elements used to give the reader the sense what the author sees the book as through metaphors, complete imagery to visualize the scene, and voice to let the reader know just how difficult it is as an author but not just an author, a female author. To emphasize, being an author is very tough, being a female author can be even tougher in an era where wealthy male writers and critics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bradstreet successfully aids readers with this with the voice she gives the Author in this poem. Revisiting all the metaphors and visuals, it s easy to at least see that this is a motherly like person who regrets the fact she must boot what she feels is a somewhat messy, child out the door. It s a voice filled, once again, with worry, regret, a motherly figure hoping her child will find its way in the world. If one wonders why somebody would have so much worry for the flaws of their creation, it is important to note two factors. Right out the gate the reader knows this author is poor, so she needs money. This is revealed when she says, And for thy Mother, she alas is poor, (Line 23). Seventeenth century is not like today where poor means the government will at least help to an extent, so the person isn t out of luck. There were efforts in the seventeenth century to help the poor but for the most part, that person was kind of out of luck. The second thing is just being an author in this time. In every respect, line 23 right here draws conclusion to the voice of this poem, especially if the reader hasn t read it already. The other part of the voice that is given out in this piece of work is this tone caring and fear mixed together. Leading off is the fear factor which the Author has every right to be since ... • 4. The Case Of Pope V. Illinois On July 21, 1983 local police detectives in Rockford, Illinois entered two different local book stores and purchased six magazines. Soon after exiting the store, police separately arrested clerks Richard Pope and Charles Morrison. Both men were charged and convicted for selling obscene materials, in accordance with an Illinois statute. On appeal, both petitioners argued that the Illinois statute was unconstitutional to both the first and Fourteenth Amendments. They reasoned that the state was required to make the value determination by an objective standard rather than community standard in conformance with the Miller decision, and the juries in this case had been instructed to judge whether the material had value as viewed by ordinary adults in the state of Illinois. The Appellate Court rejected the both petitioners arguments and the Illinois Supreme court denied requests for further review, but the United States Supreme Court granted certiorari and merged both cases for reexamination. The case, Pope v. Illinois, was argued on February 24, 1987. Glenn A. Stanko represented the petitioners whose argument was: The Illinois Obscenity Statute violated the First and Fourteenth Amendments by allowing the value element to be determined by community standards and instructing the jury to do so. Therefore, the convictions against petitioners must be reversed because the statute is invalid. Glenn Stanko made it clear that the petitioners did not argue whether the materials were ... • 5. Analysis Of Andy Goldsworthy s Piece Ice Spiral Thinking about a tree, one might think about the leaves and how they could symbolize balance, growth, and harmony. Or one might think about how a tree represents nature itself by symbolizing such attributes as strength, stability, diversity and withstanding the greatest of challenges to survive. Andy Goldsworthy is a British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist who produces site specific land art which embody these characteristics and represent nature as a whole. Goldsworthy s process is to be as involved in nature as he possibly can and to produce sculptures to draw out the character of the environment. He seeks to draw emphasis to the beauty and exquisiteness of nature while also displaying the stages of life nature goes through; it grows, stays and decays as an integral part of the circle of life. Goldsworthy s piece Ice Spiral: Tree Soul, exemplifies these distinctive elements and displays his unique technique in a way that captures the essence of nature. When one first looks upon the photograph of Tree Soul, it almost looks unreal or that the ice spiral surrounding the tree was digitally added to the image of the tree. The spiral ice sculpture is perfectly molded to wrap around the tree and opens the eyes of the audience in sensing the beauty and multidimensional details of the natural world. When creating his art pieces, Goldsworthy uses all materials of the natural world such as twigs, flowers, snow, stone, leaves and ice. He only uses natural materials found ... • 7. Representation Of Male And Females There are typical representations for both males and females. Usually the well known representation of a male is to be strong, manly and brave. The typical representation of a female is to be loving, innocent and a mother. This is what each gender s representation usually was back then. Nowadays, the representation of each males and females has changed. More and more males are taking on the jobs of women as in being the one to take care of and spend the most time with the kids. People are focusing on the movement and they are getting their point across. They try to promote women are strong and are independent just like men are. They keep fighting to earn the same amount of money for the same job that a man works. Some states have their male employees earn just a little bit more money than the female employee of the state. a majority of women do not like the idea and are wanting to fight back so they can get all the money that they earned just like any man of the state should earn. The youth girls of America are the people who the feminists are trying to target and tell them they can do whatever they want if they work hard for it. This audience of people they try targeting because they know they are obviously the future of America and when they grow up to keep fighting for feminism, they will be stronger because they got a good taste of it their whole lives growing up. Boys are told to be strong, manly, independent and to provide for women and children. Girls are told to be loving for their children and to be depended of a man. This was the norm until recently feminism has taken over for girls to grow up and be what they want to be. • 8. Remember The Titans Segregation Remember The Titans is a great football movie, and an even better civil rights movie. The movie shows how TC Williams handled desegregation and how the football team brought the community together. When the white players and black players came together for the first time, they did not get along. Coach Herman Boone took the team to a camp, and the players started to get along. When the players went back to school, they experienced the racism all over again. Eventually, the team helped the school and community get over the desegregation. The movie takes place in 1971, and TC Williams High School was one of the first high schools in the area to desegregate. The type of segregation that the school had was de facto, which means that blacks and whites could go to school together. However, there were still segregated schools because the kids in a neighborhood went to school together, and the neighborhoods were usually full of people of one race. Brown vs. Board of Education was an event that led to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most important part of the trip was that the players became close to each other and the team was a family. Coach Boone made all of the players learn about each other and become comfortable with each other. The camp was also essential for conditioning and learning plays. Seeing how hard the players were pushed, you can tell that they would be in very good shape. There was a big difference of how the team was when they boarded the bus to go to the camp, and when they arrived home. I think that going to the camp was one of the biggest reasons for the teams success. In conclusion, Remember the Titans was a very powerful movie. It was very enjoyable to watch, and is personally one of my favorite movies. • 9. Cuban Economic Crisis Essay The Special Period in Cuba was an prolonged time of economic crisis that began in early 90s mainly due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union. By this time, Cuba was enforced with embargo by the U.S., as a result, it has limited oil supply. Peak oil is the time when oil production will reach its maximum rate, and move toward an irremediable decline. As a result of insufficient usage of oil, they lack pesticides and chemical fertilizer for agriculture, no fuel for agricultural machinery operation, no electricity at home for hours everyday. Due to the continuing embargo and the loss of a foreign market, Cuba do not have enough imported food. Most of the land in Cuba is chemical free, the vegetables sold in the marketplace are mostly organic. The necessity to introduce agriculture into the city has began with the loss of more than 50% of Cuba s oil imports and 85% of its trade economy. Public policies also encouraged urban organic agriculture through the National Programme of urban Agriculture, which was aimed to support urban farmers to produce diversified, healthy and fresh products. They also allowed private entrepreneurial farmers to use public land to grow and sell their fruits and vegetables. • 10. Criminalization Of Transgender People Essay I will be using library research to discuss the criminalization of transgender people in the United States. Criminalization of a minority group is when laws are passed to oppress or control a minority group. Criminalization is an important legal dynamic to understand because usually when it is present, it is covert. But examining specific examples of criminalization in the past, we can understand its impact today and how to combat it. There have been models to put criminalization into perspective, and to observer how legal systems can come to such conclusions. There are two models by which criminalization can manifest. • 12. Relationship Between Teacher And Students Relationships in the classroom Building a relationship between the teacher and the student is not always easy, but it is necessary and important. In the first lecture of this course, the importance of a relationship between the teacher and the students was discussed [1]. Building a good relationship in the classroom setting is not only a tool for building a better learning environment, but also a way to make a teacher s work matter. If the relationship between the teacher and the student is bad, usually the student feels pushed out and rejected and therefore develops a bad relationship with the subject and with learning. A large body of research supports the idea that a good teacher student relationship helps the students feel better and have higher academic achievements [2] [5]. A good teacher, one that has a good relationship with his/her students can manage to instill a growth mindset in their students and help them achieve more also in the future, when the said teacher is not present anymore. Building a relationship takes time and effort, as humans do not immediately accept strangers in their lives and don t usually trust others unless that trust is earned. For a teacher, earning the trust of a student can be a very complicated process, based on different experiences and different views on various topics. There are three main factors that set the basis for the classroom relationships: the way in which we interact, the content of the interactions and the environment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper can serve as a resource for those interested in a deeper appreciation for the capital market consequences associated with accounting earnings. We organize this review using the three theoretical links between earnings and share prices developed by Beaver (1998). These “three links” are: 1) current period earnings provides information to predict future periods’ earnings, which 2) provide information to develop expectations about dividends in future periods, which 3) provide information to determine share value, which represents the present value of expected future dividends. We describe how this theoretical structure provides a practical framework for analyzing and understanding the valuation implications of earnings information in the capital market. We then provide empirical evidence on the relation between earnings and stock returns by extending three classic studies using data from 1988 through 2002. Our first set of empirical results provides evidence on links 1–3 by showing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Verbal Communication In The Movie, Psych From this clip in the movie, Psych, we can clearly interpret some of the key characteristics of their relationship even without any verbal communication. For example, we know that the two people know each other by the way they stare at one another. We see that this first interaction in the clip is a moment of disbelief as it is obvious they were not expecting to see each other. These few seconds give us some background into their relationship and the way they view each other, which is not all positive. The first piece, according to the text, is a floor mosaic which is composed of many colored tesserae that were laid down in irregular, curving lines, which effectively imitated painted brushstrokes. The individual tiles are more apparent when viewed closely. This gives the piece a grainy and earthy texture, where it physically looks bumpy. The textbook says it has foreshortening, the illusion created on a flat surface in which figures and objects appear to recede or project sharply into space. The second piece was drawn with tempera on parchment. This makes the piece look smooth, flat, and two dimensional. The next element is color. The hues in both pieces are relatively earth toned. Both pieces have a low level of saturation. In piece one, the sky is mustard brown with a section of mint green that frames the boulder that the male centaur is holding. The rocky scenery has browns and creams with a dull green and brown center. A bright green patch of pine trees is in the corner that contrasts with the sky and rocks. The colors to the second piece are similar in the sense that it has low saturation. The colors are dull and warm. This piece utilizes reds and oranges, in the serpent, that the first piece does not. Before the 1800s when an offender was caught there would be a trial and verdict. The plea bargain are for defendant s to plead guilty to a lesser offense or to at least one charge especially if there are multiple indictments. Defendants will plead guilty in hopes of leniency, and at least 90 percent of criminal cases end in a plea bargains. A majority of criminal cases in many jurisdictions will end in a plea bargaining. In the case North Carolina v. Alford, Mr. Alford is accused of Capital murder. The penalty for a guilty plea is imprisonment for life, however, if the defendant pleads innocent and the jury rules him guilty the death penalty attaches. Prior to the trial, Mr. Alford accepted a plea bargain. The bargaining requires him to plead guilty to murder in the second degree, the penalty of which is 30 years. Later on Alford does appeals his case, stating that his agreement to the bargain was involuntary as it was driven by fear of the death penalty. Mr. Alford s conviction was overturned however, the Supreme Court states that a guilty plea is a voluntary decision and is not compelled within his Fifth Amendment rights of Self Incrimination. In a 6 to 3 decision, the Court then reverses the appeal and reinstates his conviction. This is a great example of how the option of plea bargaining continues to be controversial. An analysis of the individual customer accounts suggest that TFC s current pricing model is ineffective. They are undercharging an alarming number of their customers thereby reducing their overall profitability. Based on this information, managers will hopefully elect to implement the services based pricing model so that customers are charged based on the services they are actually consuming. Ideally, changing the current pricing model will resolve the issue of customers reducing profit by 140% and 60% (Exhibit 8, numbers 3 and 4). If there are still profit draining customers, management should revisit and assess accordingly, either further increasing fees to those customers so their contribution is positive, or perhaps dropping these customers to increase overall profitability. 6. The higher temperature the lower viscosity and the lower temperature the higher viscosity. Cold syrup will move slower than hot syrup because the molecules are more tightly packed together while hots are very loose and free. Silica will cause the syrups viscosity to increases, so the more silica it has the more the viscosity will increase. If water is added to syrup the viscosity will decrease because water has a lower viscosity. In the cold syrup the molecules are tightly packed together. The viscosity of the is very high since it does not flow very fast. Therefore it flowed the slowest. The velocity of the team rooms data was 3.7 cm/s. In the room temperature syrup, the molecules are more loosely bonded. The viscosity of room temperature is less than the colds. (Fox, 2006) At the same time, it is a declaration to proclaim an era in which American women strove towards the equality that females refused to be subordinate to patriarchal ideology anymore. In The Feminine Mystique , Betty Friedan for the first time in history describes the problem that has no name for American women in the 1950s to 1960s. It was the time just after World War II and men went back form the war frontier to their working positions, most of the American women went back to the kitchen rather than going out to work as they had during the war. They were identified by Friedan as suburban housewives (Friedan, 1963:18), suffered from a common dissatisfaction of their lives, which is called the problem that has no name or the nameless aching dissatisfaction in the book. By analysing the essence of the problem combined with a quantity of real life example and previous theories, the author defines the feminine mystique as the convention that women should become an ideal patriarchal woman in the society where men create women as capable housewives as well as gentle mothers.
