Pre-Production
Pre-production Assessment
Locations
Equipment
• Camera with a 50mm lens for filming in the dark.
• Storage cards
• Spare batteries
• Editing software (Premiere Pro and Photoshop)
• Lighting equipment
Facilities
• The only facilities I will need are the ones I can access at
college on the computers for example I will need specific
editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe
Photoshop which are both available to me on my college
computer.
Personnel
• Crew: The team helping me on my FMP will mainly consist of
a few of my good mates. These friends will also be part of the
cast for my project so the crew and the cast will be the same
people. They will be available most of the days, but I’ll have to
make sure they are free on the specific days I need them. The
cost implications won't be that much as all we will really be
paying for is fuel and some food.
Props/Costume/etc
• As the idea for my project is a modern take on the film noir
genre. Some of the outfits I will need the cast to be wearing is
a formal suit of some kind this can be a full 2 or 3-piece suit or
simply just a shirt and smart trousers so that the viewer has
some sort of indication as to what style I am going with.
Visual Planning
FILM TITLE
Production information
Potential movie tagline
Storyboarding
Shot List
• Your shot list should contain the sequential breakdown
of what you need to shoot for your video
• It should work in partnership with your storyboard
• It will be your working document when you film
• It should contain the shot number, scene number, shot
description, framing and action you will see
• It should also have information on performers in the
scene and other props, etc
• Shot list template is on Blackboard in the pre-
production folder.
Organisational Planning
Production Group Info
• Include names, contact info, and defined roles
at difference stages of production, using a
table is suggested
NAME ROLE CONTACT INFO
Herbie Nelson All of it Herbie-
nelson@student.yorkcollege.ac.uk
Location information
• Information and images of your location[s] for
filming
• You should have address details,
clearance/premissions for filming, recce photos
and floorplans [including camera, equipment and
cast/crew layouts]
• Where possible, have a plan B fallback location
option
• Assess each location for any issues and suggest
solutions
locations
Production Schedule
• Your schedule should budget a total of 10
hours for production, that is for the filming
and editing of your project.
• You should plan when you’re filming and how
you intend to use the in class days on your
timetable/class schedule
Clearance and Permissions
• Any place you film and anyone you use in the
filming of your video must have a completed
form
Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Camera batteries running out bring plenty of spare batteries
The memory card of the camera becoming full Again bring plenty of memory cards
filming at locations near busy roads make sure we are visible to all cars passing by
and only film when it becomes quiet on the
roads
Members of the public being filmed aim to try and avoid filming when there are
members of public around and only film when
its not to busy

Editor's Notes

  1. You need to identify locations and plan a recce. What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access, cost, weather? How will you manage this?
  2. What do you need? E.g. equipment, resources? Mostly from college, but who do you need to speak to get this kit? What is available? When? Look at equipment hire places, etc
  3. Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other specialist facilities…?
  4. CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members strengths/weaknesses? When are they available? CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are they available? Cost implications? Will you have to feed them? Transport them? Other personnel? Is anyone else helping you?
