Scene Analysis of Alfred Hitchcock s Film Shadow of a Doubt
Alfred Hitchcock s film Shadow of a Doubt is a true masterpiece. Hitchcock brings the perfect mix
of horror, suspense, and drama to a small American town. One of the scenes that exemplifies his
masterful style takes place in a bar between the two main characters, Charlie Newton and her uncle
Charlie. Hitchcock was quoted as saying that Shadow of a Doubt, brought murder and violence back
in the home, where it rightly belongs. This quote, although humorous, reaffirms the main theme of
the film: we find evil in the places we least expect it. Through careful analysis of the bar scene, we
see how Hitchcock underlies and reinforces this theme through the setting, camera angles, ... Show

Hitchcock seats the Charlies across from one another and the action plays out in accordance with
the classic 180 degree rule for conversation. The 180 degree rule is the most basic way to film two
people having a conversation while sitting opposite from one another. This series of shots usually
consists of: establishing shots, two shots, close ups of each actor, insert shots, and then possibly a
re establishing shot. Hitchcock manages to bring a lot of tension out of this fairly conventional
set up by the way he constructs his scene. The two characters sit down across from one another
and are positioned on the far edges of the frame, which emphasizes the emotional and
psychological distance between the two. In the same shot Hitchcock sets up for the shot,
reverse shot conversation, by having Uncle Charlie lean in towards his niece. His leaning serves
as a lead in to the conversation about to take place. It is important to note that during this same
shot, Uncle Charlie lays out a napkin on the table and smoothes it with his hand. The napkin
exists to provide a parallel to the way the scene will play out. The hands of Uncle Charlie can be
seen as those of the director, and the napkin as the fabric of the scene. The napkin is laid before us
smooth as the scene begins, and becomes increasingly tight and twisted by the hands of Hitchcock
as he slowly tightens his hold on the audience. It also has the importance of revealing something
about Uncle Charlie s character. It

The Sport of Soccer Essay
The Sport of Soccer Not much is known about the origin of soccer. However, the Greeks and
Romans played football and ball kicking games. The London Football Association developed the
first sets of rules in 1863. British sailors and settlers brought the game to India, South America and
Europe. During the late 19th century, soccer was brought to the United States. However, it did not
prove popular until after World War I. In 1908, soccer was made an Olympic event. Since 1952,
Hungary has won the most gold medals with three. Even today, although it is an international game,
it has been slow to gain popularity as an intercollegiate sport in this country. It is however, gaining
popularity and is being included in physical education... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In soccer there are many rules that have changed. Back in the 1700 s the playing field was
shaped like a square. There were only four major markings on the field. They were the
touchlines, goal lines, halfway line, and the eighteen yard lines. When the Football Association
(FA) was created in 1863, the first uniform rules were made. FIFA now requires that soccer be
played on a rectangular field between one hundred and one hundred thirty yards long and
between fifty and one hundred yards wide. For international matches the field should be
between one hundred ten and one hundred twenty yards long and between seventy and eighty
yards wide. There are two goals, one placed at each end of the field. They are eight feet tall, eight
yards across, and six feet deep. The lines that mark the sides of the field are called touchlines;
those that mark the two ends of the field are called goal lines. Also there are five other distinctive
lines. They are the halfway lines, the goal areas, the penalty areas, the corner marks, and the center
circle. In 1908 soccer was put in every summer Olympic Game. Since 1952 Hungary has won the
most gold medals. By 1930 the interest in soccer was high enough to ensure the success of the first
World Cup. Even though only thirteen Countries entered that was still enough to have the first
World Cup. Soccer didn t come to the United States until 1620. Soccer first became recognized in
the United States when the National Collegiate Athletic

Strategic Strategy And Risk Assessment
The business dictionary has defined success as the achievement of an objective or pre determined
goal. For this study, being successful will mean strategic alliance partners achieving those
objectives that necessitated their partnership. Uddin Akhter (2011) argued that strategic alliance
success requires cooperative behaviour from all partners. They went further to state that alliance
success depends on several factors such as active involvement in problem s solution, being
trustworthy; to create value combining partners resources and capabilities and persuasion among
the partners for cooperation and coordination of activities in a cooperative behaviour. Thomas
(2014) outlined some key success factors for strategic alliances and are : (1)Strategic Rationale
Derive cooperation areas systematically from business strategy including business case evaluation
and risk assessment Engage in partnership only in case benefit generated and risks involved justify
additional complexity compared to alternative solutions (2)Select partner High strategic and
cultural fit between the partners Complementary capabilities, resources and/or reground footprint
Matching product portfolios (3)Negotiate and establish Have a common vision of partnership,
agree on fundamental values and convictions and have general rules and standards established

Mycenaean Art
Mycenaean art Along the south eastern shores of the Greek mainland there existed during late
Helladic time a number of settlements corresponding in many ways to those of Minoan Crete.
They were grouped around palaces. Their persons have come to be called Mycenaean s after
Mycenae, the most important of these settlements. Since the works of art uncover there by

regarded as having come from Crete, but it is now agreed that they were the a persons of the
earliest Greek tribes, who had entered the country soon after 2000 B.C for about 400 years,
these people had led not easily seen of country life in their new homeland; the modest tombs of
this period have provided only some simple article and a few color weapons. Toward 1600 B.C.,
however, they suddenly began to put their dead in deep shaft graves and, a little later, in conical
stone chambers, known as beehive tombs. This development reached its height toward 1300 B.C.

Michelangelo s Last Judgement Analysis
Michelangelo s Last Judgement is a depiction of the second coming of Christ and captures the
moment when God judges all human beings. With over 300 nude figures in the fresco, there was
a lot of controversy. Many of those who opposed the work were those who believed it to be
something that belonged in a bath house rather than a church because of the images being shown.
One of the most prominent features of the fresco is that all the figures have a very muscular
physique, which was what Michelangelowas most known for. Although the work faced an extreme
amount of criticism during the time, it now receives high praises and is one of the most notable
pieces of art in the world. In this fresco Michelangelo is capturing the force and triumph of the
most feared moments in the future, while retaining the purity and power of nature by representing
all of humanity as nude and muscular. One of the Last Judgment s most prominent detail that has
caused debate since it was first made was the fact that all the figures depicted were nude. Nudity
was an immense issue during the time especially for those supportive of the Catholic churches
counter reformation. One of those people is Biagio da Cesena who is noted in Schlitt s text as
saying that the excessive number and shameful representation of the nudes made it better suited to
a bath house or tavern than to the honored place it occupied. Michelangelo was so committed to
making every person in the Sistine Chapelnaked, which was to

Environmental Effects Of Desertification In Colorado
As lack of water and a particularly dry climate out competes shrubs, trees, and grasslands across
Colorado, erosion rates increase reducing the infiltration of moisture into the soil. Causation is
believed to have come from heavy livestock grazing, fire suppression, and the introduction of exotic
annual plants. Habitat problems for animals and communities that rely on ranching and hunting
have been directly affected by these desertification effects. Desertification has had large ecological
impacts on the state of Colorado. Vegetation and ecosystems are among the most crucially impacted
by the effects of desertification. While Colorado continues its dry drought like climate, restoration
of soilbecomes one of the major solutions to fight off desertification. Because of the overuse of
our land in past generations, we are continuing to see the harmful effects due to desertification.
The overall impact on humans produced by desertification is best noticed by a diminishing food
production as well as a wealth of water sources becoming dry. People in affected areas are likely to
experience poor water quality, dust storms, and pollution. More importantly, as soil loses its
nutrients, it no longer becomes farmable; thus, impacting local businesses, livestock, and the many
people in that community. If desertification continues in Colorado, an increase of lost farmlands
and livestock will pose an economic decease within agriculture markets, farmers will be forced to
move to find better

The Impact Of Sexualization Of Women In Advertising
Women have always faced oppression and unequal rights. In the early 1800s, women were treated
as slaves and their purpose was to please the men in their lives (Smith, 2002). In the 1930s,
Kellogg released an advertisement stating, so the harder a wife works, the cuter she looks! which
sexualized women for their husband s enjoyment (Heilpern, 2016). One would think over seven
decades things would change, but unfortunately, similarities from both the 1800s and the 1930s are
still present today. These similarities are present in advertisingtoday as women are sexualized and
demoralized for men s enjoyment. Portraying women as objects to satisfy men s needs contributes
to a decreased view of women in society and for the female population... Show more content on

Denbeau (2011, p. 55) highlights a study that looked at the progression of exploitation of women in
advertising between 1983 and 2003. There was a substantial increase in the sexualization of women
throughout this period and they hypothesized that by 2013 this would increase again (Denbeau,
2011, p. 55). Looking at advertisements between 2003 and 2013, one could say that their
hypothesis was correct and their study findings are valid that overtime advertising will continue to
sexualize women more explicitly.
How Companies Get Away with Sexualization in Advertising At the turn of the 20th century, gender
stereotyping women in advertising became a popular marketing technique. As previously outlined,
the stereotyping and sexualization of women continued into the 21st century and is stronger than
ever. But how can companies continue with the blatant sexualization and victimization of women
for over a century? By incorporating humour into advertising, people often overlook the sexism
presented in the advertisement. Peters, Holmgreen, and Oswald (2015, p. 162) highlight that by
mixing humour and sexist material together in advertisements, the intention is to evoke benign
laughter , not to promote prejudice . Humour takes on a role in advertisements to pull consumer s
attention away from the derogatory and demoralizing content depicted. A façade has been created

Identifying Two Unknown Species of Bacteria Essay
Identifying Two Unknown Species of Bacteria
Materials and Methods
Week 1, Day 1 (10 November 2000)
The first day an unknown sample was assigned to each group of students. The first test applied
was a gram stain to test for gram positive or gram negative bacteria. The morphology of the two
types of bacteria was viewed under the microscope and recorded. Then the sample was put on
agar plates using the quadrant streak method for isolation. There were three agar plates; one was
incubated at room temperature, the second at 30 degrees Celsius, and the third at 37 degrees
Celsius. By placing each plate at a different temperature optimal growth temperature can be
predicted for both species of bacteria.

The Urease test detects the presence of the enzyme urease. This medium contains urea and a pH
indicator, phenol red. A bacteriumcontaining urease will produce ammonia, which raises the pH
and changes the color of the medium. A positive test shows a color change from a reddish orange
to pink.
The fourth test used to identify gram negative bacteria is the Simmon s Citrate Utilization test.
This test measures a bacteria s ability to use citrate as its sole carbon source for metabolic
pathways. This solid medium contains Bromothymol Blue, which serves as a pH indicator. If the
bacteria can break down citrate it produces carbon dioxide that reacts with sodium and water, also
found in the medium, to produce sodium carbonate. Sodium carbonate elevates the pH causing a
color change from green to blue (a positive result).
The second bacterium was gram positive. There are three tests that are used to identify gram
positive bacteria. The three tests are hemolyses on blood agar, Mannitol fermentation on mannitol
salt agar, and the coagulase test using plasma containing serum in coagulase tubes.
The test on blood agar tests for a bacteria s ability to hemolyze red blood cells to obtain the iron
found in them. There are three types of hemolysis: gamma lysis, alpha lysis, and beta lysis.
Gamma lysis is the absence of erythrocyte lysis showing no color change in the blood agar. Alpha
lysis is a partial break down of hemoglobin and results

Inclusive Education Summary
Summary
Inclusive education is about providing the best possible learning environment for students with
disabilities. The purpose of the article was to determine the disposition, skills, and knowledge of
both general and special education teachers as well as the school environment. The research
suggests that teachers must have open mindedness and be self aware when they teach in an
inclusive classroom. Many teachers provided answers that suggest that they understand the need
and have the willingness but lack the skills and knowledge while some simply lack the needed
disposition to work with children with disabilities. As a result, we can see that there is a need to
further develop teacher s professional skills as well as developing the emotional fortitude that is
required to be effective at teaching in a inclusive classroom. Literature Review Inclusive education
is defined as an appropriate learning environment for students with disabilities while in the general
education (Lamar Dukes and Dukes 2005). We have seen more and more students with disabilities
being placed in inclusive environments around the U.S and abroad (Cramer and Nevin 2006;
Etscheldt 2006; Lindsay 2007; US Department of Education 2007). Because of this integration of
diverse student populations there is a need to have more welcoming school environments,
appropriate resources both in and outside the classroom, and qualified professionals willing and
able to meet the needs of

development of aircrafts can take very long lead times. It can take about 15 20 years to develop a
next generation commercial aircraft and production may stretch out for decades, depending on the
no. of units ordered. This may act as a barrier of entry for potential new entrants. Illustrating the
third force which is Power of Suppliers,
There are only 3 main competitors in the commercial jet engine making industry which operates as
an oligopoly. Historically, all of these companies have competed with each other for jet engine
contracts which led to intense price wars. To avert ruinous price wars, these companies typically
enter into exclusive supplier contracts with aircraft manufacturers. In such arrangements, the engine
maker becomes the sole provider of jet engines for a specific aircraft model.
In addition, the big jet engine makers give heavily discounted price, partly to lock in lucrative long
term replacement parts, repairs and maintenace business, thereby reducing the power of these jet
engine makers.
On the other hand, for the power of customers,
Airlines usually buy new jets under long term fixed price contracts. This effectively shifts the
financial risk to the aircraft manufacturer as they have no certainty of the future, thus giving

Homeless Population in America Essay
One of the most prominent social issues is that of the homeless population. According to Korge
Furst, 24 percent of the homeless population are severely mentally ill, 20 percent are physically
disabled, 19 percent are employed, 14 percent are victims of domestic violence, 14 percent are
veterans, while 3 percent are HIV positive (Chp. 2.4, 2012). Although there are numerous programs
and policies to eradicate homelessness, we still see that the numbers continue to rise. Essentially,
social theories such as conflict, functionalist, and symbolic interactionist theories have been
fundamental methods used to study and examine social issues like homelessness. Therefore,
expanding on innovative methods and policies for the vulnerable... Show more content on

Furthermore, some interactional theorists would most likely point to the unwillingness with some
employers to hire homeless individuals and may lack any academic or prior employment
experience. This is more often than not a terrible disappointment as well as discouragement for the
lower economic status individuals and is one element that sometimes discourages numerous
homeless people from even trying to pursue employment in the first place.
Korgen tells us The nature of our interactions with others determines how we see ourselves and our
role in society. In turn, our actions are conditioned, though not determined, by the social situations
in which we find ourselves (Chp. 1.3, 2012).
The third sociological theory that helps explain the homeless population is that of the Symbolic
Interactionist. Korgen Furst state... Symbolic interactionist theory maintains that society is a social
construct, continually created and recreated by humans interactions with one another. So basically

belief that society just works that way. Therefore, Symbolic Interactionist maintain that by changing

with vampires like Dracula in literature, movies, and television shows. Vampires are normally
portrayed as blood sucking creatures with fangs that lived in a coffin and only came out at night
since the sun would burn their fair skin. And let us not forget their romantic quest to seduce a

Scientists have found 2500 year old charred remains of honeycombs along with other artifacts in
Milan, Italy at the town trade center. The honeycombs were made from a distinct grapevine that
grew by the rivers only to be created by traveling beekeepers. This is a very telling statement that
discredits the idea that the Etruscans were vampires and lived underground. The room had been
destroyed by fire; however, the honeycombs were preserved in their original deposition so that
samples of the melted honey were determined to be of an early cultivated variation of grapevine.
The samples revealed that the honeybees had been feasting on plants like grapevines and water
lilies, some which were not native to the Etruria region. This would have suggested that the
honeycomb hives and bees were collected via floating down the riverbanks and brought back to the
trade center. When the beehives became full of honey and heavy enough to lower their boats into
the water, they would return home to extract the honey. This knowledge leads us to believe the
Etruscans possessed a particular type of beekeeping known only to them. Again, this suggests that
the Etruscans never spent life underground or never exposed to sunlight (Lorenzi,

Essay about Teen Pregnancy
Teen pregnancy is a major problem in the United States. There are significantly more teenage
pregnancies in the United States than all other developing countries (Cleo Moore, 1995).
According to The Complete and Authoritative Guide: Caring for Your Teenager, out of every five
women under twenty, two will become pregnant. Teen pregnancy rates have increased 23% from
1972 to 1990 (Napier, 1997) In order to come to a solution it is important to examine why teenage
pregnancy is so high in the United States. When analyzing teen pregnancy, an effective way to get
to the root of the problem is using the critical component of the sociological imagination. Critically,
the two most prevalent ways to look at teen pregnancy are through a... Show more content on

Liberals believe socioeconomic status is a factor in teen pregnancy. They want to put a stop to
blaming the youth. Liberals understand it is time to examine why some teens want to become
parents. When teens don t see a successful future for themselves, getting pregnant isn t that bad of
an option. Factors in teen pregnancy are a perception of unattainable goals, and lack of educational
and occupational prospects, both prevailing in poor communities. Dash (1989) concluded that child
rearing provides a tangible economic and psychological asset for black teens whose future
prospects are bleak. There are more African Americans living in extreme povertythan Latinos and
Whites (Ralley, pg#). In the journal article, Internal Poverty and Teen Pregnancy, the life options
model is proposed. The life options model suggests that, If disadvantaged youths do not perceive
that doors are open to them, it is perhaps difficult for them to see teen pregnancy as closing any
doors (Young, Sue Martin, 2001) Young, Sue Martin (2001) examined adolescent females
educational expectations. They found that females of all races who became pregnant had lower

Gettysburg Address was written to dedicate the land where many lives were lost during the Civil

In document D written by the DBQ Project it states The helmet bowl was made of 8 12 iron

probably one of the most important place to protect because one hit to the neck can paralyze them

The Great Gatsby And The Roaring Twenties

famous literature pieces are very similar connecting key events and issues from this time period. F.
Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Ken Allen s Roaring Twenties both utilize conflict, foil and
symbolism to help the readers acknowledge the influence of class and money over the characters
during the Roaring Twenties.
Conflict is a recurring struggle throughout The Great Gatsby and Ken Allen s Roaring Twenties . In
Fitzgerald s nonfiction novel, class was one of the main conflicts and reasoning s behind many
of the actions from the characters. A major social issue was class socialization. Class
socialization refers to the rich socializing with the rich and the poor socializing with the poor.
Classes of people were divided by wealth. In The Great Gatsby, Daisy would not be with Gatsby
due to his lack of money. Since Gatsby descended from a poor family, Daisy would not accept
him as a lover although she was indeed in love with him. Gatsby s lack of wealth led to many
other conflicts sustaining from his drive to earn money to prove his worth of her affection.
Another conflict in The Great Gatsby was the stock market crash. The stock market crash was a
major event during the Roaring Twenties. When the market crashed, prices on goods soared due to
the low quantity of products resulting with millions of people becoming poor. In Allen s poem

was the choice Nusrat had to make in the book Under the Persimmon Tree. (BS 1) Nusrat s
connection to the loss of Margaret; her sister, shaped her decisions throughout the book. (BS 2)
Nusrat loss of religion led to her decision of finding Faiz and adopting Islam. (BS 3) When she
found out Faiz died, she realized she must make amends with her parents. (TS) Nusrat chose
throughout the book to let her losses help her and shape her character.

(SIP A) She gradually felt Faiz slipping away, when she learned that he was truly gone, she
accepted it as the truth. (STEWE 1) Nusrat began realizing there was no way around the fact that
Faiz had most certainly perished but what she needed the most was to know how. She
desperately waits for this news She begins to wish someone with news of what happened to him
would ring the bell. It will be terrible, she knows the pain will be excruciating. But nothing can be
more terrible than not knowing (Staples 230). She has realized that with the time that has
passed Faiz must be gone and that all she now hopes is to know that he is at peace. (STEWE 2)
Throughout the book Nusrat refused to accept that Faiz had died but after an encounter with
Margaret and Faiz in her dreams on page 231 she understood they were both together at peace.
Nusrat cannot speak, but she smiles at Faiz and mouths the words I love you their fingertips
brush each other before Faiz follows Margaret to drift among the stars. When she awakens,
Nusrat feels peace settling over the raw center of pain in her chest (Staples 231). It was for the first
time in a while Nusrat felt at peace and she knew Margaret and Faiz were now safe. (SIP B) She
understands that going back to her parents is the best thing she can do for herself and her parents.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is based in the United States and is run by the
government. The banking Act of 1933, als known as the Glass Steagall Act, led to its establishment
due to the Great Depression that had been experienced in United States. This act came into play due
to the Great Depression. During this time, people were withdrawing their money from the banks
and keeping it at home. People were not feeling very confident about the banking system. So,
President Franklin Roosevelt had to step in and do something. The day after President Roosevelt s
inauguration, he declared a four day banking holiday that shut down the banking system, which
included the Federal Reserve. Several days later, the Emergency Banking

The Effects Of Internet On Today s Youth
With many new phenomena s playing such a big part on today and future societies no other
influence has been bigger than the Internet. The Internet, a mechanism for information
dissemination and a place for interaction between individuals and their computers without regard
for geographic location, has opened and closed doors to opportunity. Some consider the Internetto
be the greatest innovation of our generation, some not so much. The best way to analyze the effects
the Internet has had, is to look at the effects it has had on different aspects in this country. Take a
look at the effects the internet has had on today s youth, the music industry as well as its effect on
the way politics and business has taken advantage of the innovation... Show more content on

In 1965 another M.I.T. scientist developed a way of sending information from one computer to
another that he called packet switching. This was a precaution taken that saved the data, breaks it
into blocks and sends it whatever route you wanted keeping the information secure unlike the
scare they had with the communication of the phone line ( The Invention ). By the end of the
1970s, a computer scientist named Vinton Cerf had begun to solve this problem of a single
worldwide internet by developing a way for all of the computers on all of the world s mini
networks to be able to interact with any other network around the world. He called his invention
Transmission Control Protocol, or TCP ( The Invention ). Cerf s protocol transformed the Internet
into a worldwide network. Throughout the 1980s, researchers and scientists used it to send
information and different files of data from one computer to another. However, in 1991 the Internet
changed once more. That same year, a computer programmer in Switzerland named Tim Berners
Lee introduced the World Wide Web
. An Internet that was not simply a way to send information
from one place to another but was itself a web of information that anyone on the Internet could
access. Berners Lee created the Internet that we know and use today ( The Invention ). Different
browsers would be created throughout time such as Google, Bing and Yahoo just to name a few as

Satire In Film
There are many films of the 1990s that were considered revolutionary, whether it was because of
their use of new technology for improved visuals, or the unconventional plotlines that were cutting
edge and exciting for viewers. Scream, Pulp Fiction, and Fight Club are three films that changed
the film industry in many ways, and they left such a lasting impression on their audiences that they
are still considered classics today. Scream was one of the first films to use satire and black comedy
to challenge the predictable and anticlimactic genre of horror. This filmserved as a criticism
regarding how the media and film industry often use cheap thrills in order to gain attention, and
how viewers will easily fall for this tactic. Pulp Fiction was... Show more content on

Towards the end of the film, Randy calls out a typical horror film trick: Careful. This is the
moment when the supposedly dead killer comes back to life, for one last scare, (Scream). This
not only criticizes horror movies, but it also references the ways in which the media and news
outlets will keep drawing viewers in with graphic or thrilling images and stories, even if the
information is unimportant or irrelevant. This is representative of American culture in the 1990s
because it was a time of questioning authority and thinking as an individual despite what tactics
big businesses or newscasters used to draw in a bigger audience. This is also demonstrated by
Gale Weathers character who, after witnessing various murders and nearly being murdered
herself, immediately decides to broadcast the scene on the news in order to make it as a famous
newscaster. Her character was intended to be a blatant criticism on how, particularly in the 90s
but still today, media outlets thrive off of flashy or vulgar stories even if it means exploiting those
involved. This film is a classic because it is not just a scary movie it is a parody of a scary movie
that, while also demonstrating many qualities of a good slasher film, uses clever and fourth wall
breaking dialogue to criticize how easily viewers will fall for shameless thrills in the

  • 2. Scene Analysis of Alfred Hitchcock’s Film Shadow of a... Scene Analysis of Alfred Hitchcock s Film Shadow of a Doubt Alfred Hitchcock s film Shadow of a Doubt is a true masterpiece. Hitchcock brings the perfect mix of horror, suspense, and drama to a small American town. One of the scenes that exemplifies his masterful style takes place in a bar between the two main characters, Charlie Newton and her uncle Charlie. Hitchcock was quoted as saying that Shadow of a Doubt, brought murder and violence back in the home, where it rightly belongs. This quote, although humorous, reaffirms the main theme of the film: we find evil in the places we least expect it. Through careful analysis of the bar scene, we see how Hitchcock underlies and reinforces this theme through the setting, camera angles, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hitchcock seats the Charlies across from one another and the action plays out in accordance with the classic 180 degree rule for conversation. The 180 degree rule is the most basic way to film two people having a conversation while sitting opposite from one another. This series of shots usually consists of: establishing shots, two shots, close ups of each actor, insert shots, and then possibly a re establishing shot. Hitchcock manages to bring a lot of tension out of this fairly conventional set up by the way he constructs his scene. The two characters sit down across from one another and are positioned on the far edges of the frame, which emphasizes the emotional and psychological distance between the two. In the same shot Hitchcock sets up for the shot, reverse shot conversation, by having Uncle Charlie lean in towards his niece. His leaning serves as a lead in to the conversation about to take place. It is important to note that during this same shot, Uncle Charlie lays out a napkin on the table and smoothes it with his hand. The napkin exists to provide a parallel to the way the scene will play out. The hands of Uncle Charlie can be seen as those of the director, and the napkin as the fabric of the scene. The napkin is laid before us smooth as the scene begins, and becomes increasingly tight and twisted by the hands of Hitchcock as he slowly tightens his hold on the audience. It also has the importance of revealing something about Uncle Charlie s character. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The London Football Association developed the first sets of rules in 1863. British sailors and settlers brought the game to India, South America and Europe. During the late 19th century, soccer was brought to the United States. However, it did not prove popular until after World War I. In 1908, soccer was made an Olympic event. Back in the 1700 s the playing field was shaped like a square. There were only four major markings on the field. They were the touchlines, goal lines, halfway line, and the eighteen yard lines. When the Football Association (FA) was created in 1863, the first uniform rules were made. FIFA now requires that soccer be played on a rectangular field between one hundred and one hundred thirty yards long and between fifty and one hundred yards wide. For international matches the field should be between one hundred ten and one hundred twenty yards long and between seventy and eighty yards wide. There are two goals, one placed at each end of the field. They are eight feet tall, eight yards across, and six feet deep. The lines that mark the sides of the field are called touchlines; those that mark the two ends of the field are called goal lines. Also there are five other distinctive lines. They are the halfway lines, the goal areas, the penalty areas, the corner marks, and the center circle. In 1908 soccer was put in every summer Olympic Game. Since 1952 Hungary has won the most gold medals. By 1930 the interest in soccer was high enough to ensure the success of the first World Cup. • 5. Strategic Strategy And Risk Assessment The business dictionary has defined success as the achievement of an objective or pre determined goal. For this study, being successful will mean strategic alliance partners achieving those objectives that necessitated their partnership. Uddin Akhter (2011) argued that strategic alliance success requires cooperative behaviour from all partners. They went further to state that alliance success depends on several factors such as active involvement in problem s solution, being trustworthy; to create value combining partners resources and capabilities and persuasion among the partners for cooperation and coordination of activities in a cooperative behaviour. • 8. Michelangelo s Last Judgement Analysis Michelangelo s Last Judgement is a depiction of the second coming of Christ and captures the moment when God judges all human beings. With over 300 nude figures in the fresco, there was a lot of controversy. Many of those who opposed the work were those who believed it to be something that belonged in a bath house rather than a church because of the images being shown. One of the most prominent features of the fresco is that all the figures have a very muscular physique, which was what Michelangelowas most known for. Although the work faced an extreme amount of criticism during the time, it now receives high praises and is one of the most notable pieces of art in the world. In this fresco Michelangelo is capturing the force and triumph of the most feared moments in the future, while retaining the purity and power of nature by representing all of humanity as nude and muscular. One of the Last Judgment s most prominent detail that has caused debate since it was first made was the fact that all the figures depicted were nude. Nudity was an immense issue during the time especially for those supportive of the Catholic churches counter reformation. One of those people is Biagio da Cesena who is noted in Schlitt s text as saying that the excessive number and shameful representation of the nudes made it better suited to a bath house or tavern than to the honored place it occupied. • 9. Environmental Effects Of Desertification In Colorado As lack of water and a particularly dry climate out competes shrubs, trees, and grasslands across Colorado, erosion rates increase reducing the infiltration of moisture into the soil. Causation is believed to have come from heavy livestock grazing, fire suppression, and the introduction of exotic annual plants. Habitat problems for animals and communities that rely on ranching and hunting have been directly affected by these desertification effects. Desertification has had large ecological impacts on the state of Colorado. Vegetation and ecosystems are among the most crucially impacted by the effects of desertification. While Colorado continues its dry drought like climate, restoration of soilbecomes one of the major solutions to fight off desertification. Because of the overuse of our land in past generations, we are continuing to see the harmful effects due to desertification. The overall impact on humans produced by desertification is best noticed by a diminishing food production as well as a wealth of water sources becoming dry. People in affected areas are likely to experience poor water quality, dust storms, and pollution. More importantly, as soil loses its nutrients, it no longer becomes farmable; thus, impacting local businesses, livestock, and the many people in that community. If desertification continues in Colorado, an increase of lost farmlands and livestock will pose an economic decease within agriculture markets, farmers will be forced to move to find better ... • 10. The Impact Of Sexualization Of Women In Advertising Women have always faced oppression and unequal rights. In the early 1800s, women were treated as slaves and their purpose was to please the men in their lives (Smith, 2002). In the 1930s, Kellogg released an advertisement stating, so the harder a wife works, the cuter she looks! which sexualized women for their husband s enjoyment (Heilpern, 2016). One would think over seven decades things would change, but unfortunately, similarities from both the 1800s and the 1930s are still present today. These similarities are present in advertisingtoday as women are sexualized and demoralized for men s enjoyment. Portraying women as objects to satisfy men s needs contributes to a decreased view of women in society and for the female population... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Denbeau (2011, p. 55) highlights a study that looked at the progression of exploitation of women in advertising between 1983 and 2003. There was a substantial increase in the sexualization of women throughout this period and they hypothesized that by 2013 this would increase again (Denbeau, 2011, p. 55). Looking at advertisements between 2003 and 2013, one could say that their hypothesis was correct and their study findings are valid that overtime advertising will continue to sexualize women more explicitly. How Companies Get Away with Sexualization in Advertising At the turn of the 20th century, gender stereotyping women in advertising became a popular marketing technique. As previously outlined, the stereotyping and sexualization of women continued into the 21st century and is stronger than ever. But how can companies continue with the blatant sexualization and victimization of women for over a century? By incorporating humour into advertising, people often overlook the sexism presented in the advertisement. Peters, Holmgreen, and Oswald (2015, p. 162) highlight that by mixing humour and sexist material together in advertisements, the intention is to evoke benign laughter , not to promote prejudice . Humour takes on a role in advertisements to pull consumer s attention away from the derogatory and demoralizing content depicted. A faГ§ade has been created ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Identifying Two Unknown Species of Bacteria Essay Identifying Two Unknown Species of Bacteria Materials and Methods Week 1, Day 1 (10 November 2000) The first day an unknown sample was assigned to each group of students. The first test applied was a gram stain to test for gram positive or gram negative bacteria. The morphology of the two types of bacteria was viewed under the microscope and recorded. Then the sample was put on agar plates using the quadrant streak method for isolation. There were three agar plates; one was incubated at room temperature, the second at 30 degrees Celsius, and the third at 37 degrees Celsius. The Urease test detects the presence of the enzyme urease. This medium contains urea and a pH indicator, phenol red. A bacteriumcontaining urease will produce ammonia, which raises the pH and changes the color of the medium. A positive test shows a color change from a reddish orange to pink. The fourth test used to identify gram negative bacteria is the Simmon s Citrate Utilization test. This test measures a bacteria s ability to use citrate as its sole carbon source for metabolic pathways. This solid medium contains Bromothymol Blue, which serves as a pH indicator. If the bacteria can break down citrate it produces carbon dioxide that reacts with sodium and water, also found in the medium, to produce sodium carbonate. Sodium carbonate elevates the pH causing a color change from green to blue (a positive result). The second bacterium was gram positive. There are three tests that are used to identify gram positive bacteria. The three tests are hemolyses on blood agar, Mannitol fermentation on mannitol salt agar, and the coagulase test using plasma containing serum in coagulase tubes. The test on blood agar tests for a bacteria s ability to hemolyze red blood cells to obtain the iron found in them. There are three types of hemolysis: gamma lysis, alpha lysis, and beta lysis. Gamma lysis is the absence of erythrocyte lysis showing no color change in the blood agar. Alpha lysis is a partial break down of hemoglobin and results ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Inclusive Education Summary Summary Inclusive education is about providing the best possible learning environment for students with disabilities. The purpose of the article was to determine the disposition, skills, and knowledge of both general and special education teachers as well as the school environment. The research suggests that teachers must have open mindedness and be self aware when they teach in an inclusive classroom. Many teachers provided answers that suggest that they understand the need and have the willingness but lack the skills and knowledge while some simply lack the needed disposition to work with children with disabilities. As a result, we can see that there is a need to further develop teacher s professional skills as well as developing the emotional fortitude that is required to be effective at teaching in a inclusive classroom. Literature Review Inclusive education is defined as an appropriate learning environment for students with disabilities while in the general education (Lamar Dukes and Dukes 2005). We have seen more and more students with disabilities being placed in inclusive environments around the U.S and abroad (Cramer and Nevin 2006; Etscheldt 2006; Lindsay 2007; US Department of Education 2007). Because of this integration of diverse student populations there is a need to have more welcoming school environments, appropriate resources both in and outside the classroom, and qualified professionals willing and able to meet the needs of ... Historically, all of these companies have competed with each other for jet engine contracts which led to intense price wars. To avert ruinous price wars, these companies typically enter into exclusive supplier contracts with aircraft manufacturers. In such arrangements, the engine maker becomes the sole provider of jet engines for a specific aircraft model. The honeycombs were made from a distinct grapevine that grew by the rivers only to be created by traveling beekeepers. This is a very telling statement that discredits the idea that the Etruscans were vampires and lived underground. The room had been destroyed by fire; however, the honeycombs were preserved in their original deposition so that samples of the melted honey were determined to be of an early cultivated variation of grapevine. The samples revealed that the honeybees had been feasting on plants like grapevines and water lilies, some which were not native to the Etruria region. This would have suggested that the honeycomb hives and bees were collected via floating down the riverbanks and brought back to the trade center. When the beehives became full of honey and heavy enough to lower their boats into the water, they would return home to extract the honey. This knowledge leads us to believe the Etruscans possessed a particular type of beekeeping known only to them.
