Summary Of Can Art Amend History
First of all, I must admit that I identified myself and enjoyed more with the video Can Art Amend
History, by Titus Kaphar compared to The Unheard Story of the Sistine Chapel, by Elizabeth Lev.
The way Mr. Kaphar begins to explain how he ends up loving art was very straightforward as well
as on how he combined his son question to convey an important message, which is the importance
of visual language.
I agree with Mr. Kaphar in many ways. There are people who learn more efficiently through
visualization and one of this kind of people. He explains that painting is a language where
everything in a painting is meaningful, important and coded. However, sometimes because of the
composition structure it is difficult to see other things. By using

To Hold a Killer Whale in Captivity is to Abuse that Animal
Introduction:
I. Attention Getter
According to National Geographic, in the wild, Killer Whales are accustomed to traveling
distances of up to 100 miles per day. However, the largest Killer Whale facility for Orcas in
captivity in the world located at Marineland in Antibes, France as stated by the Marineland
website, only measures 210 feet long, 100 feet wide and 40 feet deep.
II. Credibility Statement
After watching the documentary Blackfish, reading several articles on whales in captivity and
researching Killer Whale (Also Known as Orcas), I am now well informed on the subject of killer
whales in captivity.

According to the documentary Blackfish, whales chew on the gates and barriers breaking their
teeth and get cut and scraped from the concrete of the pools.
Lastly, Keeping killer whales in captivity causes deformities. In the wild, the dorsal fin of the
Killer whale stands upright (Cetacean Inspiration). Cases of killer whales having bent dorsal fins
in the wild is extremely rare and when it does occur its usually the result of injury, or even an oil
spill. There are a several reasons why whales in captivity have bent dorsal fins. Two of the main
causes as stated by the Cetacean Inspiration Website are:
I. In the wild, the deep water supports the dorsal fins upright position while collagen hardens, and
in captivity, the pool water isn t deep enough to exert the amount of pressure necessary so the fin
bends.
II. the second reason is because the whales do a lot of turning since they cannot swim in a straight
line as they do in the wild, thus bending the fin.
II. Point #2
Whales in captivity suffer through a great amount of emotional abuse . In captivity, Children can
be separated from their mothers, and whales that are taken from the wild are separated from their
families ,which can consist of up to 40 members (National Geographic). Whales are very family
oriented and each pod of whales has their own dialect when communicating. Whales are social
creatures and by depriving them of social activity and their families, they become depressed and

Question 1
The drivers carry a full load of goods to Johannesburg but return empty to Durban. Are the drivers
receiving a fair remuneration (wage) for work done? Motivate by using calculations.
Answer
Drivers are not getting a fair remuneration.
Drivers are paid per trip and not per hour or days work.
Drivers are not paid the same amount for the same trip, from Durban to Johannesburg and back.
Sibusizwe earns R500.00, Mike earns R450.00 and Xholani earns R550.00 per round trip.

If the problem is not the control and is lying in the performance of the trucks itself he should
consider selling truck 3 and buy a new truck that will perform and earn plus minus the income of
truck 2.
In conclusion truck 3 is the newest truck, 1 year and 9 months old, but it has the lowest income
earned per round trip and a high fuel and maintenance cost.
Therefore truck 3 is the least profitable of the three trucks.
Question 5
What advice would you give Jimmy so that he can maintain effective control over his trucks in the
future?
Answer
For Jimmy to maintain effective control over his trucks the following is advised:
His trucks need to be maintained regular and on time in order to extend its lifespan and to ensure
effective use of the trucks in order to generate maximum profit.
He must check the millage travelled on each round trip
Jimmy must install tracking devices on each truck to keep track of where the truck is at all times.
The tracking device will help to make sure that the trucks are not misused or abused by the drivers.
The tracking device will also give control over the number of hours of each round trip.
He must make sure that the trucks are properly insured against theft, accidents etc.
Jimmy must make sure that there are proper recording of each truck:

Essay On Circuit Courts
The Supreme Court in Virginia reviews decisions of the circuit courts and the Court of Appeals
when such appeals have been allowed, decisions from the State Corporation Commission, and
certain disciplinary actions of the Virginia State Bar regarding attorneys ( Virginia Court System ,
2009). The Court of Appeals in Virginia, reviews decisions of the circuit courts in domestic
relations matters, traffic infractions and criminal cases, appeals from administrative agencies, and
decisions of the Virginia Workers Compensation Commission. ( Virginia Court System , 2009).
When comes to the Circuit Court in Virginia, the circuit court is the general jurisdiction trial court
with authority to try all types of civil and criminal cases. ( Virginia Court System , 2009). The

Some of the direct consequences for these courts, is that sometimes the goal for certain cases don
t always come out how some people want it to come out. For instance, everybody may not agree
on the solution for a certain case a court came up with. Some of the indirect consequences for the
courts is that sometimes the cases have to go through certain levels of the courts system and it
takes a long process. The most important courts that should be the most consideration is the
Supreme Court and Courts of Appeals. These courts are also the most effectiveness. These two
conflicting attributes can best be balanced by the levels and how the handle certain cases. They are
both big courts because the Supreme Court is the first level and then the Court of Appeals is the
second level so the of them tie in together of handling big cases. All together the court system is
very important and goes into the criminal justice

Representation Of Women In Music Videos
Explore the representation of women as family members in music videos, with specific reference to
Fergie s music video MILF $ and Michael Buble s music video Close your Eyes.
Stuart Price wrote that representation is the way in which ideas, objects, people, groups and life
forms are depicted by the mass media and is the method used by the mass media to create
meanings. In other words, representation is the mediation of visual and technical codes to
construct a certain depiction of an aspect of reality. Since the first music videos in the 1970 s,
music videos have repeatedly been criticised for heavily sexualized representations of women. A
2012 study by Cynthia Frisby found that sexual representations of women were common even when
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Buble has almost a sense of equality running through Close your Eyes; there are no lingering
camera shots on women s bodies (Mulvey) or performances of gender (Judith Butler) but rather
Buble represents different races, ages, genders and sexualities without a sense of bias or
stereotyping and therefore Close your Eyes can be read as a feminist text. MILF $ has an
enormous focus on the way that the women featured in the video look and this relates to the
beauty myth (Naomi Wolf) as it pressures women into looking a certain way, even if this
appearance is unobtainable or unrealistic, but Close your Eyes challenges the beauty myth with
non stereotypical beauty i.e. a mid shot of an old Mexican couple dancing and laughing. Both
music videos include a representation of a female teacher. Close your Eyes denotes a long shot
of a teacher supportively looking at students work and reassuring him with a hand on the
shoulder, whereas MILF $ denotes Fergie dressed in a short skirt and red heels dancing sexually
through a classroom of all teenage boys. MILF $ almost uses the awareness that the term is well
known to be associated with porn and includes shots like the sexy teacher, the breastfeeding mum,
the mum receiving a massage and the waitress to be controversial and maybe to take back
ownership of their sexuality (third wave feminist view). Close

The Journal Of Antonio Pigafetta
Introduction The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future. This is
a quote by Theodore Roosevelt that speaks about a certain truth about History, the past. People tend
to think that history is of no importance, but what they don t know is that the past plays a certain
role in shaping the present and the future. When I was assigned to write a paper about the
Philippine s history during the Spanish colonization, I was determined to find a topic that greatly
influenced and affected the history of the world. A suggestion was given to me that I should write
about the significant journal entries of Antonio Pigafetta about Magellan s journey. I found this
topic immensely interesting and I decided to write about it though it seemed to be a difficult subject.

like me get the chance to sail along with Ferdinand Magellan and his crew. In addition, this
journal of Antonio Pigafetta widened human knowledge about the world that we are living in. We
always have that tendency to receive something without being thankful for it. While we learn so
much from the writings of Antonio Pigafetta and learn from it, I think that we are not as grateful
for them as we should be. My term paper is about five significant journal entries of Antonio
Pigafetta. I hope that by the end of this paper, we would not only learn more about Magellan s
journey, but I truly hope that we would also appreciate Antonio Pigafetta s journal, for it is our

Me: Thank you for allowing me to interview you. I would like to ask you about the subject of the
Cold War. At the end, I will also be asking a couple personal questions.
Question 1: What was the first time you remember hearing about the conflict between the Soviet
Union (or the USSR) and the United States? Tell me about it.
Rebecca: Well, I cannot really remember the first time that I heard about the conflict between the
Soviet Union and the United States. If I think about it, I think that this knowledge was something
that I kind of just absorbed...but did not really understand because no one really took the time to
explain the situation to young children when I was young. I also really do not remember learning
much about the conflict while I was in school.
Strangely enough, I remember hiding in a closet one time, and trying to figure out how I was
going to hide and hold my breath, when the Russians came . I was trying to figure out how I could
be so quiet that they would not find me when they came to search the house. I also remember
thinking that the Russians were somewhere not that far away, where they could easily travel into
Indiana and invade and take over.

Howard Gardner s Theory Of Multiple Intelligences
Stages of cognitive and moral development, Interests and learning styles, and Howard Gardner s
Theory of Multiple Intelligences To meet my students needs, I will begin supporting them
psychologically, academically and develop classes that appeal to a wide range of different bits of
intelligence. I am going to develop assorted techniques to construct my lesson activities that allow
students to relate to the subject matter in ways that fit their interests, learning styles and strengths. I
have many students who show abilities in different areas of intellect consequently I will let them
work in collaborative education groups, either merging diverse intelligencestyles or gathering them,
is going to be a successful strategy. Alternatively, I will let my learners express their strengths in
several areas of intelligence, they will be able to feel comfortable and capable. I will take in
consideration Howard Gardner s Theory of Multiple Intelligencesand I will get these types of
intelligence involved in my lesson activities too, with the goal that each student can be encouraged
to examine and celebrate their own skills, for example: I will utilize team tactics for learners that
have an interpersonal intelligence inclination, they will develop cooperative learning skills as they

There was pathos, when their friend was a prime examples of what happens to winners, as they in
fact lose. Lastly was the logic which incorporated the evidence in relation to the characters and the
facts that were elaborate on. Although, all point that were presented to the audience had a purpose,
the strongest appeal would have to be ethos. With the acknowledgment of facts, statistics, and
scholarly insight to the situation, it gave support to the rebuttal s that were imbedded into the film
by the other characters. It s hard to argue with facts and as realization in this ethos sank in with the

Olympic Games And The Olympics
When it comes to the Olympic Games, there is a lot of history behind it. The first Olympics
were held in Olympia, Greece, and the games were played by elite athletes. The games went
from 776 BC to 393 AD and stopped up until 1896 AD, when the games were held in Athens,
Greece. The Olympics have become a great way for countries to show off some of the interesting
aspects of their country. For a country to host the Olympics, they must go through a process. First,
you must submit a bid to the IOC (International Olympic Committee) stating why the Olympics
should be hosted in your country, whether it be economic, social, and or environmental reasons. If
the IOC chooses a country to host the Olympics of a certain year, they will let them know that the
bid was accepted. Next, the process of building the stadiums and the houses for the Olympics
begins. This is the most costly part of the entire process. The construction takes many years to
complete, and once the construction is finished, the rest is the setup to prepare for what is to come.
After the Olympic Gamestake place, the goal for the host country is to leave a legacy. A legacy is
defined as the cause effect relationship with the event and its immediate impacts and ends with
clearly identified outcomes (Hiller, 2014, 47). When analyzing a certain Olympic event, it is
imperative to assess all three phases of the games and all of the aspects possible to determine
whether it leaves a positive or negative legacy. When

Culture Is Defined As The Internet And Mass Media
Culture is defined as the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time
(Merriam Webster, 2015). Different continents, from Far East Asia to the West Most point of the
Antarctica, holds their own unique traditions and cultures. Modern form of communication, such as
the internet and mass media, had exposed us to various different cultures, thousands miles away
from us, enabling us to see with our own eyes their practices and traditions. Despite that, does the
images and recordings we see with our eyes through the media are enough to convey all the values
in the cultureitself? Our view on the matter may be different that from how others, especially the
locals, sees the matter itself due to the fact that the visual we see does not hold enough of the
emotions and values in the cultureitself. In order to send deeper messages that cannot be merely
perceived only with visuals, poetryplays a considerable amount of role in the representation of a
culture. Why does poetry have the ability to fully portray a culture? Poetry have the ability to
display a culture due to the fact that a poet who writes poems about a certain culture usually had
either encountered the culture themselves or practice the culture and the customs in their daily life.
This statement is similar to what Ava McCall said in her articles Using Poetry in Social Studies
Classes to Teach about Cultural Diversity and Social Justice , that poets often write poems

The Weaknesses Of The Judicial Branch Of Government In The...
The first form of Government in America was the Articles of Confederation, the Articles of
Confederation worked but had a few flaws which included no system of national courts and also
Congress lacked strong and steady leadership. The weakness were quite significant so the
Constitutional Convention was held to revise the Articles of Confederationbut instead led to the

the Anti Federalists were scared that would be like Britain again so they opted for a small weak
central government; their roles in the Convention were to make The Articles of Confederation
please both parties and make compromises. The Constitutional Convention kept the Government
from being overpowered by creating Checks and Balances, The Executive branch was responsible
for enforcing the laws, Legislative creates the laws, and the Judicial Branch interprets the law. The
Checks were intended to keep one Branch of Government from being more powerful then another
Branch. The smaller and larger states compromised when creating laws by having the Senate and
also the House of Representatives, smaller states like the Senate because this means all states
would have an equal amount of reps but larger states preferred the House of Reps because the
amount of reps was based on population. I believe that in today s Government the Judicial Branch

Globalization Of The American Style Fast Food
Globalization is one of the most popular issues that have been discussed through the
world by the sociologist for decades.(James A. D, Dick. P, Yongseok Seo 2006)
According to John Tomlinson s (Tomlinson 2006) cognition of globalization. He
interprets that:
Globalization is a complex process because it involves rapid social
change that is occurring simultaneously across a number of dimensions in the world
economy, in politics, in communications, in the physical environment and in culture
and each of these transformations interact with the others. (p. 1)
As far as I am concerned, globalization is happening around daily life. For example,
McDonalds, they start from a small restaurant in California to one of the world s
leading food service retailers, with more than 35000 restaurants in more than a
hundred countries.(McDonald 2014) McDonalds spread the American style fast food
worldwide. This can be seen as a globalization of food culture.
Since the societies are becoming more and more alike nowadays and leading to a
phenomenon known as globalization. Some people afraid that globalization will lead
to the loss of cultural identify while some think it can have a good impact on the
societies. Based on the bookгЂЉGolden Arches East: McDonald s in East
AsiaгЂ‹which indicates the advantages of the food globalization by providing the view
that it is not only spreading the food culture but also blending with the locals and the

Essay On The Death Penalty
The death penalty plays a controversial role in modern society. Many arguments against the death
penalty are raised to question whether it is biased against race or violates the constitution. Reuben
Greenberg, the first black police chief involved in innovative criminology and author of the article
Race, the Criminal Justice System, and Community Oriented Policing, openly shares his opinion on
how race does not affect the death penalty. Reuben Greenberg also proves false accusations of the
death penalty wrong. Jack Greenberg, American attorney and author of Against the American

Along with this, Reuben Greenberg believes that you have to look past a person s skin color and
judge them on their crime, not their looks. Haag agrees with Reuben Greenberg s statement on how
people shouldn t judge someone just because of their race.
The subject of race can become very biased, and many people feel as if the justice system can be
racist towards minorities. In my opinion, race should not play a role in death penalty. Although
there are still many racist people in the world, crimes should be prosecuted based on the crime
committed, regardless of the person s race. Many white people are on death row currently for the
same crimes a minority might commit. In the world today, many controversial events have
happened dealing with race along with the justice system. For example, there have been multiple
incidents where a white officer has been charged with shooting a black person. It is thought that
if a white judge is sentencing a minority, the odds of the minority getting put on death row would
be in favor. A judge must have an opinion when it comes to sentencing a criminal, but it does not
always have to be the race card . The severity of the crime should be the real reason as to why a
person would be put on death row, not their skin color. If a minority commits a crime worthy of the
death sentence, the judge has the right to sentence that upon him, regardless of looking at his skin.

happiness deep down inside. Its what keeps us striving to fulfil our needs and wants on an
everyday basis. There is not one kid who does not get excited over a dollar to spend at the candy

cancer. Being happy is not just healthy, but it is also rewarding for each and every individual. We

When the big storm appeared this meant that all Pi had left to do was pray and sacrifice to the
gods for the storm to stop. Pi gave up all of his mental state to stay alive, and in return was

There is no more worrying for Pi other than to find some land, he is now happy after such a little
event. Any one can find happiness depending on what happy means to them. If doing a backflip
into a pool makes you happy, then you will end up risking anything to get that last backflip in
before the summer ends. Happiness is like a rush of adrenaline, once you feel it once there is no
stopping you from wanting it back again.
If you are ever bored, try doing something that makes you happy and I bet you the time will end up
flying by. Pi had a few main goals while on his trip. To train Richard Parker, to survive, and to get
the hell off of the boat and get home. All of these goals Pi made compromises for each one. The
motivation to reach these goals gave Pi many activities to do while living on the bare minimum.
By not wanting to feel like there is no hope for his survival, Pi strived to become happy because
you will live longer with a smile and not with a grin. There is nothing more rewarding than
accomplishing anything you have worked very hard for. Happiness is a gift that we can all receive,

The obsession or compulsions are time consuming (e.g., take more than 1 hour per day) or cause
clinically significant distress or impairment in important areas of functioning. The disturbance is
not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance or another medical condition and is not
better explained by the symptoms of another mental disorder (Barlow Durand, 2016, p. 153).
Melvin fits the criteria for OCD through displaying mental acts, repetitive behaviors, and exhibiting
symmetry obsessions. Most noticeably Melvin manifest mental acts. For instance, Melvin opens,
closes, unlocks and locks every door encountered exactly five times. Moreover, Melvin performs a
homologous routine flipping light switches on and off precisely five times. Additionally, Melvin
moves both feet in a triangular formation before slipping on shoes. Furthermore, Melvin sits at the
same table at the same restaurant daily. After meeting Carol, Melvin extends this pattern insisting to
always have Carol as a server.
Symmetry obsessions are another behavior, Melvin often showcases, qualifying for the criteria for
OCD. Symmetry refers to keeping things in perfect order or doing something in a specific way

and Masters of War . He was influenced to write Song to Woody during his time spent in folk
clubs and coffeehouses of Greenwich Village, where he met a crowd of other musicians similar to
himself ( Dylan, Bob 31 39). This particular song was written as a tribute to his ailing folk musician
hero, Woody Guthrie. Moreover, Blowin in the Wind is a song that was released in 1963 as a part
of the album, The Freewheelin Bob Dylan . According to Dissent Magazine, it was composed as
a topical song that reflected the country s overall mood (Dreier). Dylan allowed his music to be
open for the public to interpret freely. Masters of War is another folk song that contained deeper
meanings than what the lyrics simply suggested. Dylan tackled the theme of men in power as he
wrote this during the time of political change when John F. Kennedy came into power. The genre of
folk changed the face of music during the 1960s, influencing Dylan s literature style.
Dylan s talents of having the ability to compose music in a variety of different genres was
evident through his country songs as well. According to editors Sara and Tom Pendergast, He
frustrated his fans over and over by refusing to stick with any one musical style or personal
philosophy ( Dylan, Bob 31 39). However, his compelling music lyrics easily overpowered this
feeling of frustration expressed by the crowd. Dylan s

The Mba Decision Ch.6 Minicase
Betsy Bellard Dr. Praveen K. Das Minicase Chapter 6 January 30, 2013 1. How does Ben s age
affect his decision to get an MBA? Age plays a huge part in Ben s decision to get his MBA and
to be able to become an investment banker he will need to start on his MBA as soon as possible.
The longer Ben waits, the harder it will be for him to accomplish this goal. By completing his
MBA at a young age, he will have the opportunity to potentially raise his income by 4% each year.
Also, most businesses are not allowed to discriminate against an applicant s age, but they do prefer
to hire younger applicants over older applicants. The longer Ben waits, the less chance he will get

The Fast and Violent Fall of Societies
Societies fall like comets falling to earth; fast and violently. Rome, Samurai in Japan, the civil
rights era, and the society in the novel delirium fell fast and changed everything. A corrupt
government, citizens in poverty, and lack of rights and freedoms all lead to the downfall of great
societies.
Some great societies fall because of a corrupt government, and leaders. The government in the
society of Delirium is ruthless and harsh. They have raids where they make sure everyone is
valid. While checking everyone they are strict, harsh, and unforgiving. The regulators the raiders
come inside the citizen s house, tear their walls down, and look for signs of suspicious activity.
All laws are suspended on raid nights. The government is heartless, and will eliminate everything
their way without a second thought. They will kill animals that are barking too loudly, or kick a
child looking at them the wrong way. The government invades anything social because they are
afraid everyone will catch the deliria, love. When they invade, they let dogs loose, club people,
and worst of all they enjoy it. The leaders of the samurai in Japan were harsh like the government
in delirium was. Young samurai went for days without eating, marched barefoot in snow on long
journeys, and held stiff postures for hours without complaining. In order The young man s fencing

Romance Essay
Romance is something that should never end. Romance brings love, happiness, and a joyful life.
One of the true definitions of romance is, an emotional attraction or aura belonging to an
especially heroic era, adventure, or activity (Romance, n.d.). However, when someone thinks of
romance they can see how much of a concept it is. It could be different for everyone because not
everyone s definition of romanceor romantic activity is the same. For a man named Jim, it could
be him offering his arm to a woman when they are walking. Yet, on the other hand, for a random
girl named Emily, it could be having the man walk on the streetside of the sidewalk so he could
protect her. Romancestarted centuries ago and is not going to end anytime soon.... Show more

Nevertheless, the idea of romance did not just pop up like a jack in the box. The origins of the
modern celebration lie in the 18th century with the rise of romantic marriages. Writer, Elizabeth L.
Maurer (2017), from Nationals Women s History Museum had stated that During the 18th century,
society encouraged young people to select their marriage partners based on their romantic
attachments. This was a decided change from past practice when marriages had been
arranged...between families or clans. So the young people at that point had to figure out what they
liked and what they did not like in a spouse, it was all left up to them. Maurer (2017), also
discussed how romance had fit in on this new practice:
Prospective lovers needed to find one another and then determine the extent of mutual attraction.
Courtship became a distinctive phase of partner selection, and familiar rituals evolved. Young
women, perhaps more than young men, often enjoyed the process of courtship as it represented a
time of freedom and choice.
The men really had to come with the best of the best because the women now had the option to
reject them. The men had to think of ways to show their interest, bringing them flowers from the
garden, taking them out to dinner on a Friday night, or even taking off their hat when they were
talking to the lady. They either had to teach themselves based on what the woman they were trying
to pursue, or their father

Video Case: Constraint Management at Southwest Airlines
Question 1: Analyze Southwest s passenger boarding process using the Theory of Constraints.
Southwest Airlines is an airline company that has set industry benchmarks of having the best
turnaround ratios, in an industry where lead time during different operations is very time
consuming. Southwest currently boasts a rapid gate turnaround of 25 minutes or less, and it
demonstrates how attention to activities pertaining to ground operations (including cleaning of the
aircraft, fuelling and flight preparation) can help the company in being so operationally efficient.
Customers rave about low fares, exceptional customer service, and the biggest competitive
advantage that Southwest has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Constraints in the boarding process are related to the boarding sequence of passengers; in order for
Southwest to manage its constraints, they need to improve the boarding sequence of passengers to
make it as fast as possible which in turn would lead to better turnaround times (faster boarding
times).
Question 2: Which boarding scenario among the different ones proposed would you recommend for
implementation? Why?
The seven different alternate boarding scenarios that were designed were: * New family pre
boarding behind the A group of first to board passengers. This method would give priority to
passengers that are travelling with families and give them exclusive access to the aircraft first. *
Family pre boarding before anyone else, but seating choices limited on board to behind the
wing. Similar to the first scenario, this would give families priority in the boarding sequence but
would restrict them to certain sections of the aircraft. * Six boarding groups (within A B C
groups) instead of the original three A B C groups. This would allow for better division of the
boarding sequence since the groups have been doubled. * Assigned boarding gate line positions
based on both boarding group and gate arrival time. This scenario would allow Southwest to get rid
of its current single line philosophy. * Single

The Influence Of Sociological Criminology On Human Behavior
Since ancient times, males have always gone against laws in the society. The beliefs of sociological
criminology in the environment have prevented its attempts to prove this theory. The
neurohormonal changes between male and female individuals tell more about behavioral
differences as they apply to crimeand defiance. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation
research in 1992, men constituted 89% of the violent arrest crimes and 76% of the property crimes
arrests. Up to date, the trend has not changed as men continue to be found on the wrong side of the
law compared to their femalecounterparts. Despite the research found, sociological criminologyhas
failed to provide enough evidence on its emphasis on environmentalism.

Ganymede Jewelry Essay

Midterm Project
Ganymede Jewelry
My God, am I such a jewelry fanatic! I knew as soon as I saw jewelry I had to write about it.
Jewelry is something women and men but mostly women tend to adorn themselves with to
either show stature, beauty or just to feel special about themselves. The Jewelry gives a lot of
details on where it was made and the interesting designs on the necklace and earrings. Also,
because it s made of real gold and silver any women would be honored to wear such an amazing
work of art. The Ganymede Jewelry was found in Macedonia near the area of Thessaloniki
before 1913 and the jewelry pieces date back to being formed 330 300 B.C. They date back to
the Hellenistic Greek period. Hellenistic period starts from the death of Alexander the Great in
323 B.C. to the conquest of Ptolemaic Egypt. This time period Greek cultural power was at the top
in Europe, Africa and Asia. It experienced an influx of arts, literature, architecture, math, science
and etc. The jewelry was made by Leochares in the beginning for the fourth century B.C. The
Hellenistic Jewelry was made in current day Greece. The Ganymede Jewelry consists of earrings,
necklace, pins, bracelets and a ring. But it s not sure if they all go together. The neckless is shown
to take on the look of ivy or grape leaf and have a border of beaded wire and a rosette in the center.
Many places like Asia Minor, around the Black Sea area, southern Italy have known to have strap

The Life Changing Experience of Caregiving Essay
The Life Changing Experience of Caregiving My interpretation of caregiving and the extensive role
a caregiver plays transformed while reading Emily Abel s novel, Hearts of Wisdom. When
interviewing my grandmother, Marjorie Waguespack, her personal experiences reinforced many of
the vital factors Abel believes are involved in caregiving. Caregiving includes major rewarding
aspects from varying standpoints. Emily Abel wholeheartedly believes, the three major components
of care instrumental, spiritual, and emotional sometimes conferred significant rewards (60). Caring

If a physician was called, death was inevitable (42). My grandmother wholeheartedly disagrees with
Abel s ideas. She trusted her doctor literally with her life. Emily Abel emphasizes that doctors
proved to remain unreliable and costly. She illustrates the difficulties of summoning a physician;
transportation difficulties not only delayed doctors arrivals but also prevented them from
providing continuing care (41). My grandmother lived in a different kind of situation. The town
she resided in consisted of almost all relatives; where as in Abel s stories, the doctor most likely
would be required to travel long distances to provide care. Transportation served as a significant
challenge that prevented care from being rendered in a timely fashion, especially if major trauma
or an acute sudden onset condition was involved. My grandmother did not experience this
obstacle. My grandmother explained, [T]he doctor s office had registered nurses and a few rooms
available for more care, if needed, for twenty four hours a day. In other words, help was almost
always available. The local doctor s instrumental value benefitted the surrounding community. This
local resource came in handy with her multiple children. My grandmother had four daughters that
she cared for on a daily basis. She explained how

introduction to the setting of the film. The various shots of the setting that are presented between

viewer context to this neighborhood s economic and cultural background. This movie directed by

Latinos are portrayed in media as having to fight a large variety of forces and this film attempts
to document a couple of these through their characters. Guadalupe Molina, struggles to take care
of her brothers and sisters while her parents work; Ana Delgado, is pressured to drop out of
school to begin working in her family business; Claudia Camejo; is discouraged to pursue
Calculus by her mother because boys don t like you if you re too smart ; and Pancho is
encouraged to drop out of school to work as a mechanic for what he believes is a reasonable
wage. The AP Calculus gives the students hope to enter college, evidenced by a scene in which
Angel brings his sick grandma to Mr. Escalante s house on Christmas to ask him for another
chance to be in the class. He tells Mr. Escalante, I need Calculus to get me to a good career
Johnny. The film uses a variety of examples of adversity in attempt to make this story seem more
inspirational but the characters in this film are not given more personal characteristics and simply
identifiable by their struggles. The audience does not know about their likes or dislikes, or a lot
about their personalities. They are a diverse Latino cast but their usage as people that just need to

Rather, a Gantt chart treats each activity as if it were independent of the others, which of course is

projects that are not complex and have relatively few interrelationships among implementation
activities. (p.436)
It helps to look at the software as a framework that can be modified in hundreds of different ways
to support your organization s culture. If you have a disciplined organization with projects that are
well defined and stable, you can implement many system capabilities relatively quickly to
streamline and simplify formerly manual processes. However, if your organization is new to the
field of project management, you might have to introduce system features in several phases so that
the learning curve is not too steep. Another factor, which could be considered in planning the scope
and phasing of your implementation are the history and type of project. (informit.com) There are so
many different types of project management software that runs on desktop or notebook computers
can perform these tasks easily and quickly, can enable a project leader to plan and control
implementation tasks, and can help a team install a new system on time and within budget.
Examples of project management software solutions include SAP, Agile, Microsoft Project,

How Does Read Literature Like A Professor Chapter Responses
How to Read Literature Like a Professor Chapter Responses
Introduction: How d He Do That? The recognition of patterns makes it much easier to read
complicated literature because recognizing patterns will help you relate two or more pieces of
literature together, therefore making it easier to understand and analyze the literature you are
focused on. Patterns in literature can help the reader understand plots, settings, themes, and other
literary elements. I greatly appreciated the novel, Brave New Worldbecause of how different the
society in the novel was from the one I live in. Using the Signposts from Notice and Note, I was
able to see contrast and contradictions that enhanced my understanding of the book. I noticed how I
was expecting Bernard, in Brave New World to be just like everybody else in the novel but instead
he was a normal person that felt normal human emotions, such as the longing for love, that the other
characters just did not feel. He also felt isolated and alone. Bernard thinks in a way we were not
expecting. Patterns such as this helped me, the reader, to better understand literary elements.

Bargaining Power of Suppliers
With 30% of Dollar General s inventory being made up from nationally known brands and the
other 70% consisting of Private label brands, Dollar General does not face a large threat from
the bargaining power of suppliers. While the national brands are on par, or sometimes below, big

power of supplies to control prices or production is very low.

While there may be low bargaining power of suppliers, the bargaining power of consumers is
extremely high. The rise of the Internet has led to an unprecedented transparency of prices within

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Personality Test
Personality is the dynamic organization within the individual of those psychophysical systems that
determine his characteristics behavior and though (Allport, 1961, p. 28). Alongside every
hypothesis of identity advancement comes an alternate hypothesis on the best way to gauge it.
There are a few objectives towards measuring these, for example, to clear up finding, decide the
seriousness of an issue, screen for dangers for future issues, make forecasts of future practices, and
help in treatment suggestions. Therefore it is important to look upon the major types of personality

Summary Of The Metamorphosis By Kafka
In Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis , the transformation of the character Gregor from a man to
one of the most repellent insects, a cockroach, may seem exaggerated and ridiculous, becoming
more so over the course of the story as the action builds and emotions become more charged. Kafka
s intention, however, is to expose and explore the impoverishment of human psychologywith
respect to the ways in which changes in one s circumstances and conditions reshape notions of
justice and mercy. These themes will be explored further in this character analysis of Gregor in The
Metamorphosis.
While it is the subject of this character analysis, Gregor who has been mysteriously and
inexplicably reduced to one of the lowest forms of animal life in this story by Kafka representing
the absurd, it isGregor s family in The Metamorphosis whose psychological development is least
human and humane. Gregor has changed physical form, but Kafka clearly indicates that his
essential being has not changed in any fundamental way. Gregor still has human feelings and
needs, he still wishes to relate with his family and other members of society, and he still wishes to
be responsible. As this character analysis of Gregor in The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
suggests, his mother, father, and his sister have not changed form, but their metamorphoses are the
most profound because they demonstrate how easily one s beliefs, values, and basic treatment of
others can be compromised because of a failure to adapt psychologically.
From the opening of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, the character of Gregor is portrayed
as a whole and complex human being. Like many people, he detests his job, but he recognizes
that his work is necessary because it supports his family. He applies himself with great
earnestness (Kafka 35) to his grinding work as a traveling salesman, not only because he wants
to support his parents and pay off a debt that they incurred, but because he dreams of sending his
sister, Grete, to a conservatory where she can learn to play violin professionally (Kafka 37). At
this early point in Kafka s Metamorphosis in fact, a character analysis of Gregor would yield rather
little in terms of character depth. However, this devotion

Childhood Poverty In The United States
Childhood poverty is a pervasive problem in the United States. Unfortunately, many children are
affected by poverty, with young children being the most vulnerable. Some of the causes of poverty
include lack of education, family composition, immigration, and unemployment. The government
can help in many ways by promoting marriageand free and reduced school lunch programs. Poverty
is a social problem because it s widespread. People do not have the acquired skills needed to
succeed in today s society. Childhood poverty is even more challenging because children cannot
help themselves and the solutions must come from social change in order to have a significant
impact. To improve poverty, it is important to create enhancements in education... Show more

I myself, have been fortunate enough to have many of my needs met and know that I am lucky. As
an adopted child, I was lucky enough to be removed from poverty at an early age. My birth parents
were not college educated, although they were married. They immigrated to the US when they were
teenagers. Immigrants have higher poverty rates than native born Americans (Haskins, 2015, p. 4).
Writing this paper helps me understand the gift that my birth parents gave me.
In the past, Charles Brace took on the problem of child poverty in the 19th century New York
City. Brace was a Yale graduate who was shocked by centers of crime and misery (Olasky,1994,
p. 1). He helped kids by putting them in a group home, after first trying to unsuccessfully
distribute directly to the poor. He then tried to make sure they could be adopted in rural areas
(Olasky,1994, p. 1). These children would work on the farms, thus creating incentives for people to
adopt older children (Olasky,1994, p.

The Film Moonlight Film Analysis
This is a criticism of Moonlight, a film directed by Barry Jenkins. It is a coming of age story,
telling the journey of a young gay black man named Chiron. Through linear character
development the film follows a young Chiron from adolescence into adulthood while growing
up with alpha males in Miamis black ghettos. The Story is told in three parts, with a different
actor playing the lead role in each section: a young Chiron named Little , as a teen named Chiron
, and an adult named Black . Despite a compelling lead performance by Mahershala Ali and
Naomie Harris, and its great soundtrack, Moonlight falls flat and never gets out of the shadow of
its typical cliche plot, all the while, the film continued to never overcome the obstacle of... Show

Part Two Chiron fast forwards to Chiron, now a high school student, still continuing to be bullied
by his peers, who now more than ever suspect him to be gay. Nothing much has changed, he is
still very coiled up and scrawny framed. Chiron and Kevin have continued to stay friends through
out the years, but in the middle of the scene, there friendship takes a different turn. One night on
the beach Kevin and Chiron share and intimate moment, Chiron s first and only homosexual
encounter with a man. Not long after Kevin is pressured by the high schools bully Terrel, to
attack Chiron. It makes no sense, as to why Kevin would do such a thing after an intense, intimate
moment the two had just previously shared. This act is another reminder to Chiron that he cannot
trust anyone, especially after the complete betrayal that Kevin has shown in front of countless
other students. Chiron and Kevin shared an emotional connection that he has never experienced
before. The scene ends as, Chiron walks in to class, as per usual does not say one word, and
slams Terrel in the back of the head with a chair and is taken to Juvenile Detention. This is a
defining moment as we see Chiron standing up for him self. However, it leaves the audience
wanting more. Now as part two comes to a conclusion we see that Chiron had the opportunity to
become his own and live up to his true identity. Yet, Not much has changed, but Because he was
denied this as a young boy, as a teenager he still is

Rudolf Lab The Theorist, The Theory And The Context
Part 1: The theorist, The Theory and The Context Rudolf Laban, a brilliant acting theorist,
inspires many individuals, groups of actors and performers all over the world to this day. His
progressive acting theories mold an individual into a character effortlessly and effectively.
Although his ideas were not always appreciated, his critics only pushed him to better his
techniques. Rudolf Laban was born on December 15th, 1879, in Bratislava, which used to be part
of the Austro Hungarian Empire. His Father, a highly decorated Officer in the Army, hoped that
Rudolf would follow in his footsteps; however, Rudolf found himself intrigued with the complexity
of the arts. He studied art and acting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. While... Show more

Rudolf Laban died at the age of 78 on July 1st 1998, in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Rudolf
Laban s theories focus primarily on movement. His movements are specific to what the actor
intends on portraying. Not only so, but the movement of the actor would in turn directly reflect
the character s personality. He believed every movement performed displayed a greater purpose
to internally reflect on one s character. Thus, His movement theories help an actor to bring out the
individuality of each character portrayed in a performance or dance. Part 2: Practical Explorations
and Development of the Solo Theatre Piece For this solo piece, I chose to incorporate Laban s
theories into an interpretive dance. I display, not two different characters movements, but one
character s movements as he/she develops, learns, and grows throughout his/her lifetime. To do so,
I will use shadows in the background to interact with the character in order to allow the audience to
better comprehend my actions and movements throughout the song. As the actor, I conform to the
story line and the character I am portraying by my movements and interactions with the shadows
projected onto the backdrop of the stage. As I prepared for this performance, I found it difficult to
incorporate the movement patterns of two characters, due to the fact that it is specifically a solo
piece rather than a duet or

Athanasius Translation Of The Scriptures In Greek Language
Around 200 BC, the Old Testament was translated from Hebrew, the language of the Jewish people,
into Greek. This translation enabled the common people to read and understand the Scriptures.
After Jesus resurrection, the apostles wrote down the account of Jesus life and ministry in the
Gospels. They wrote in Greek because it was the common language of the people. The letters
written to the churches that sprang up all over the world were also written in Greek. As the years
progressed the common language shifted from Greek to Latin. As a result, the common people
could not read or understand the Scriptures in Greek. Therefore, Athanasius decided to translate the
Bible into the common language of the people. Since Athanasius translation

I am grateful because that lead me to North Carolina Central University. From my time here, I
have grown immensely. Being a student at NCCU is the best thing that ever happened to me. I
enjoy debating, fine dining, and shopping. One of the greatest experiences I had at NCCU is an
etiquette class. If I had no responsibilities for 48 hours, I would likely spend it decorating and
shopping for decorations. I am always looking for ways to improve things. My motto is that I
am going to become the woman of my dreams . The woman of my dreams is how I imagined
myself as a child. She was hard working, dedicated, sophisticated, classy, and elegant. Each day I
work on molding myself into that idea and I believe that becoming a member of alpha kappa alpha

Nathaniel Hawthorne Essay
Nathaniel Hawthorne was one of American literature s finest writers; his writing style was very
distinct and unusual in some aspects. It is his background that provided this ambiguous and
complex approach to writing. Hawthorne s New England heritage has, at times, been said to be
the contributing factor in his works. The Puritan view of life itself was considered to be
allegorical, their theology rested primarily on the idea of predestination and the separation of the
saved and the damned As evident from Hawthorne s writings his intense interest in Puritanical
beliefs often carried over to his novels such as, Young Goodman Brown, The Scarlet Letter, and
The Minister s Black Veil just to name a few of the more well known pieces of his work.... Show

Both men Dante and Young Goodman Brown embark on a somewhat spiritual journey and
come out of it with an insight that they never possessed before relating to the world and their
beliefs. Young Goodman Brown had the allegorical elements similar to Dante s Inferno with the
use of color, ambiguous statements and the representation of objects. An example of this type of
ambiguity of language is when the old man convinces Goodman Brown to come with him: Let
us walk on, nevertheless, reasoning as we go, and if I convince thee not, thou shalt turn back.
We are but a little way in the forest yet (Hawthorne 615) This statement can be taken one of two
ways, either for the literal sense in which the old man is urging him to come or for the
allegorical way in which this shows Goodman Brown has a choice in his destiny to make the
right decision and turn his back on Satan when he sees God s way is better. Upon returning home
Goodman Brown comes to the realization that all the people that meant most in his life that he
believed were righteous, upstanding, God fearing citizens were all guilty of being influenced by
the devil. Whether he dreamed this or not what happened to him in the forest changed his life in
such a dramatic way that it compels him to live the rest of it out in gloom and despair as evident
from this paragraph: Often, awakening suddenly at midnight, he shrank from the bosom of Faith,
and at morning or eventide, when the family knelt down at prayer, he

The Relationship Between Plato s Regimes And Current U.s....
Cooperation and Contrast between Plato s Regimes and Current U.S. Government
The U.S. government is a union of partially self governing states or regions under a central
government. It is composed of three distinct branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, whose
powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the federal courts.
The separation of powers, which neither any branch working alone can change the U.S.
constitution, is a kind of harmony that is similar to what is described in Plato s aristocratic regime,
where each class minds their own jobs to keep the state functioning. Besides, in my opinion, the
current U.S. government is a combination of timocracy, oligarchy and democracy, which of four
regime types of Plato.
According to Socrates, in Timoracy, the spiritedness, which is the love of victory and honors, will
be predominant. Timoracy honours the rulers while is contemptuous of manual activities and
trade; for its rulers, they will eat communally and devote themselves to gymnastics and training for
war. Timoracy will be also governed in being afraid to appoint the wise as rulers, instead, selecting
spirited and simpler man, men naturally more directed to war than to peace (Plato 547e). Although
they will desire money, they will be niggardly of money since they cannot acquire money openly;
therefore, they will love to spend others money to fulfill their aspirations. Due to attach importance
to physical training, they will

The History Of Hollywood And The Film Industry
Hollywood and the film industry has been impacting American culture and society for many
decades now. Over these decades the film industry and society became entangled. The American
people influence what types and how films are produced through their actions of going to the
theaters. The industry reacts to the market created by the consumers but also comes up with new
and creative ideas. These ideas and innovations are tested by those who see the film and how
successful they are. One market that has ebbed and flowed through the times has been religious
themed films. America is influenced by the role of religion, especially Christianity and Judaism.
An important story from these religious groups is the exodus of the Israelites from the bondage of
the Egyptians. The first major movie that Hollywood created to tell this story is the Ten
Commandments produced in 1956 by Cecil de Mille starring Charlton Heston as the great leader
Moses. Recently the film industry created the movie, Exodus: Gods and Kings, produced in 2014
by Ridley Scott with Christian Bale as Moses.
Both of these films try to follow the general framework of the exodus of the Hebrews from the
Biblical narrative. Pharaoh of Egypt controlled the enslaved Israelites. Even under that oppressive
control the Israelites grew their population, which concerned the Pharaoh of an uprising. He
decided that the firstborn males of the Israelites should be killed to reduce their population and to
keep authority over them.

  • 2. Summary Of Can Art Amend History First of all, I must admit that I identified myself and enjoyed more with the video Can Art Amend History, by Titus Kaphar compared to The Unheard Story of the Sistine Chapel, by Elizabeth Lev. The way Mr. Kaphar begins to explain how he ends up loving art was very straightforward as well as on how he combined his son question to convey an important message, which is the importance of visual language. I agree with Mr. Kaphar in many ways. There are people who learn more efficiently through visualization and one of this kind of people. He explains that painting is a language where everything in a painting is meaningful, important and coded. However, sometimes because of the composition structure it is difficult to see other things. According to the documentary Blackfish, whales chew on the gates and barriers breaking their teeth and get cut and scraped from the concrete of the pools. Lastly, Keeping killer whales in captivity causes deformities. In the wild, the dorsal fin of the Killer whale stands upright (Cetacean Inspiration). Cases of killer whales having bent dorsal fins in the wild is extremely rare and when it does occur its usually the result of injury, or even an oil spill. There are a several reasons why whales in captivity have bent dorsal fins. Two of the main causes as stated by the Cetacean Inspiration Website are: I. In the wild, the deep water supports the dorsal fins upright position while collagen hardens, and in captivity, the pool water isn t deep enough to exert the amount of pressure necessary so the fin bends. II. the second reason is because the whales do a lot of turning since they cannot swim in a straight line as they do in the wild, thus bending the fin. II. Point #2 Whales in captivity suffer through a great amount of emotional abuse . In captivity, Children can be separated from their mothers, and whales that are taken from the wild are separated from their families ,which can consist of up to 40 members (National Geographic). Whales are very family oriented and each pod of whales has their own dialect when communicating. Representation Of Women In Music Videos Explore the representation of women as family members in music videos, with specific reference to Fergie s music video MILF $ and Michael Buble s music video Close your Eyes. Stuart Price wrote that representation is the way in which ideas, objects, people, groups and life forms are depicted by the mass media and is the method used by the mass media to create meanings. In other words, representation is the mediation of visual and technical codes to construct a certain depiction of an aspect of reality. Buble has almost a sense of equality running through Close your Eyes; there are no lingering camera shots on women s bodies (Mulvey) or performances of gender (Judith Butler) but rather Buble represents different races, ages, genders and sexualities without a sense of bias or stereotyping and therefore Close your Eyes can be read as a feminist text. MILF $ has an enormous focus on the way that the women featured in the video look and this relates to the beauty myth (Naomi Wolf) as it pressures women into looking a certain way, even if this appearance is unobtainable or unrealistic, but Close your Eyes challenges the beauty myth with non stereotypical beauty i.e. a mid shot of an old Mexican couple dancing and laughing. Both music videos include a representation of a female teacher. Close your Eyes denotes a long shot of a teacher supportively looking at students work and reassuring him with a hand on the shoulder, whereas MILF $ denotes Fergie dressed in a short skirt and red heels dancing sexually through a classroom of all teenage boys. • 13. Olympic Games And The Olympics When it comes to the Olympic Games, there is a lot of history behind it. The first Olympics were held in Olympia, Greece, and the games were played by elite athletes. The games went from 776 BC to 393 AD and stopped up until 1896 AD, when the games were held in Athens, Greece. The Olympics have become a great way for countries to show off some of the interesting aspects of their country. For a country to host the Olympics, they must go through a process. First, you must submit a bid to the IOC (International Olympic Committee) stating why the Olympics should be hosted in your country, whether it be economic, social, and or environmental reasons. If the IOC chooses a country to host the Olympics of a certain year, they will let them know that the bid was accepted. Next, the process of building the stadiums and the houses for the Olympics begins. This is the most costly part of the entire process. The construction takes many years to complete, and once the construction is finished, the rest is the setup to prepare for what is to come. After the Olympic Gamestake place, the goal for the host country is to leave a legacy. A legacy is defined as the cause effect relationship with the event and its immediate impacts and ends with clearly identified outcomes (Hiller, 2014, 47). Different continents, from Far East Asia to the West Most point of the Antarctica, holds their own unique traditions and cultures. Modern form of communication, such as the internet and mass media, had exposed us to various different cultures, thousands miles away from us, enabling us to see with our own eyes their practices and traditions. Despite that, does the images and recordings we see with our eyes through the media are enough to convey all the values in the cultureitself? Our view on the matter may be different that from how others, especially the locals, sees the matter itself due to the fact that the visual we see does not hold enough of the emotions and values in the cultureitself. In order to send deeper messages that cannot be merely perceived only with visuals, poetryplays a considerable amount of role in the representation of a culture. Why does poetry have the ability to fully portray a culture? Poetry have the ability to display a culture due to the fact that a poet who writes poems about a certain culture usually had either encountered the culture themselves or practice the culture and the customs in their daily life. Although there are still many racist people in the world, crimes should be prosecuted based on the crime committed, regardless of the person s race. Many white people are on death row currently for the same crimes a minority might commit. In the world today, many controversial events have happened dealing with race along with the justice system. For example, there have been multiple incidents where a white officer has been charged with shooting a black person. It is thought that if a white judge is sentencing a minority, the odds of the minority getting put on death row would be in favor. A judge must have an opinion when it comes to sentencing a criminal, but it does not always have to be the race card . He was influenced to write Song to Woody during his time spent in folk clubs and coffeehouses of Greenwich Village, where he met a crowd of other musicians similar to himself ( Dylan, Bob 31 39). This particular song was written as a tribute to his ailing folk musician hero, Woody Guthrie. Moreover, Blowin in the Wind is a song that was released in 1963 as a part of the album, The Freewheelin Bob Dylan . According to Dissent Magazine, it was composed as a topical song that reflected the country s overall mood (Dreier). Dylan allowed his music to be open for the public to interpret freely. Masters of War is another folk song that contained deeper meanings than what the lyrics simply suggested. Dylan tackled the theme of men in power as he wrote this during the time of political change when John F. Kennedy came into power. The genre of folk changed the face of music during the 1960s, influencing Dylan s literature style. Dylan s talents of having the ability to compose music in a variety of different genres was evident through his country songs as well. • 25. Romance Essay Romance is something that should never end. Romance brings love, happiness, and a joyful life. One of the true definitions of romance is, an emotional attraction or aura belonging to an especially heroic era, adventure, or activity (Romance, n.d.). However, when someone thinks of romance they can see how much of a concept it is. It could be different for everyone because not everyone s definition of romanceor romantic activity is the same. For a man named Jim, it could be him offering his arm to a woman when they are walking. Yet, on the other hand, for a random girl named Emily, it could be having the man walk on the streetside of the sidewalk so he could protect her. The origins of the modern celebration lie in the 18th century with the rise of romantic marriages. Writer, Elizabeth L. Maurer (2017), from Nationals Women s History Museum had stated that During the 18th century, society encouraged young people to select their marriage partners based on their romantic attachments. This was a decided change from past practice when marriages had been arranged...between families or clans. So the young people at that point had to figure out what they liked and what they did not like in a spouse, it was all left up to them. Maurer (2017), also discussed how romance had fit in on this new practice: Prospective lovers needed to find one another and then determine the extent of mutual attraction. Courtship became a distinctive phase of partner selection, and familiar rituals evolved. Young women, perhaps more than young men, often enjoyed the process of courtship as it represented a time of freedom and choice. The men really had to come with the best of the best because the women now had the option to reject them. The men had to think of ways to show their interest, bringing them flowers from the garden, taking them out to dinner on a Friday night, or even taking off their hat when they were talking to the lady. Southwest Airlines is an airline company that has set industry benchmarks of having the best turnaround ratios, in an industry where lead time during different operations is very time consuming. Southwest currently boasts a rapid gate turnaround of 25 minutes or less, and it demonstrates how attention to activities pertaining to ground operations (including cleaning of the aircraft, fuelling and flight preparation) can help the company in being so operationally efficient. Constraints in the boarding process are related to the boarding sequence of passengers; in order for Southwest to manage its constraints, they need to improve the boarding sequence of passengers to make it as fast as possible which in turn would lead to better turnaround times (faster boarding times). Question 2: Which boarding scenario among the different ones proposed would you recommend for implementation? Why? The seven different alternate boarding scenarios that were designed were: * New family pre boarding behind the A group of first to board passengers. This method would give priority to passengers that are travelling with families and give them exclusive access to the aircraft first. * Family pre boarding before anyone else, but seating choices limited on board to behind the wing. Similar to the first scenario, this would give families priority in the boarding sequence but would restrict them to certain sections of the aircraft. * Six boarding groups (within A B C groups) instead of the original three A B C groups. This would allow for better division of the boarding sequence since the groups have been doubled. * Assigned boarding gate line positions based on both boarding group and gate arrival time. This scenario would allow Southwest to get rid of its current single line philosophy. * Single ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The recognition of patterns makes it much easier to read complicated literature because recognizing patterns will help you relate two or more pieces of literature together, therefore making it easier to understand and analyze the literature you are focused on. Patterns in literature can help the reader understand plots, settings, themes, and other literary elements. I greatly appreciated the novel, Brave New Worldbecause of how different the society in the novel was from the one I live in. Using the Signposts from Notice and Note, I was able to see contrast and contradictions that enhanced my understanding of the book. • 37. Summary Of The Metamorphosis By Kafka In Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis , the transformation of the character Gregor from a man to one of the most repellent insects, a cockroach, may seem exaggerated and ridiculous, becoming more so over the course of the story as the action builds and emotions become more charged. Kafka s intention, however, is to expose and explore the impoverishment of human psychologywith respect to the ways in which changes in one s circumstances and conditions reshape notions of justice and mercy. These themes will be explored further in this character analysis of Gregor in The Metamorphosis. While it is the subject of this character analysis, Gregor who has been mysteriously and inexplicably reduced to one of the lowest forms of animal life in this story by Kafka representing the absurd, it isGregor s family in The Metamorphosis whose psychological development is least human and humane. Gregor has changed physical form, but Kafka clearly indicates that his essential being has not changed in any fundamental way. Gregor still has human feelings and needs, he still wishes to relate with his family and other members of society, and he still wishes to be responsible. As this character analysis of Gregor in The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka suggests, his mother, father, and his sister have not changed form, but their metamorphoses are the most profound because they demonstrate how easily one s beliefs, values, and basic treatment of others can be compromised because of a failure to adapt psychologically. From the opening of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, the character of Gregor is portrayed as a whole and complex human being. Like many people, he detests his job, but he recognizes that his work is necessary because it supports his family. He applies himself with great earnestness (Kafka 35) to his grinding work as a traveling salesman, not only because he wants to support his parents and pay off a debt that they incurred, but because he dreams of sending his sister, Grete, to a conservatory where she can learn to play violin professionally (Kafka 37). At this early point in Kafka s Metamorphosis in fact, a character analysis of Gregor would yield rather little in terms of character depth. However, this devotion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The government can help in many ways by promoting marriageand free and reduced school lunch programs. Poverty is a social problem because it s widespread. I myself, have been fortunate enough to have many of my needs met and know that I am lucky. As an adopted child, I was lucky enough to be removed from poverty at an early age. My birth parents were not college educated, although they were married. They immigrated to the US when they were teenagers. Immigrants have higher poverty rates than native born Americans (Haskins, 2015, p. 4). Writing this paper helps me understand the gift that my birth parents gave me. In the past, Charles Brace took on the problem of child poverty in the 19th century New York City. Brace was a Yale graduate who was shocked by centers of crime and misery (Olasky,1994, p. 1). He helped kids by putting them in a group home, after first trying to unsuccessfully distribute directly to the poor. He then tried to make sure they could be adopted in rural areas (Olasky,1994, p. 1). These children would work on the farms, thus creating incentives for people to adopt older children (Olasky,1994, p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Film Moonlight Film Analysis This is a criticism of Moonlight, a film directed by Barry Jenkins. It is a coming of age story, telling the journey of a young gay black man named Chiron. Through linear character development the film follows a young Chiron from adolescence into adulthood while growing up with alpha males in Miamis black ghettos. The Story is told in three parts, with a different actor playing the lead role in each section: a young Chiron named Little , as a teen named Chiron , and an adult named Black . Despite a compelling lead performance by Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris, and its great soundtrack, Moonlight falls flat and never gets out of the shadow of its typical cliche plot, all the while, the film continued to never overcome the obstacle of... Nothing much has changed, he is still very coiled up and scrawny framed. Chiron and Kevin have continued to stay friends through out the years, but in the middle of the scene, there friendship takes a different turn. One night on the beach Kevin and Chiron share and intimate moment, Chiron s first and only homosexual encounter with a man. Not long after Kevin is pressured by the high schools bully Terrel, to attack Chiron. It makes no sense, as to why Kevin would do such a thing after an intense, intimate moment the two had just previously shared. This act is another reminder to Chiron that he cannot trust anyone, especially after the complete betrayal that Kevin has shown in front of countless other students. Chiron and Kevin shared an emotional connection that he has never experienced before. The scene ends as, Chiron walks in to class, as per usual does not say one word, and slams Terrel in the back of the head with a chair and is taken to Juvenile Detention. This is a defining moment as we see Chiron standing up for him self. However, it leaves the audience wanting more. Now as part two comes to a conclusion we see that Chiron had the opportunity to become his own and live up to his true identity. Rudolf Lab The Theorist, The Theory And The Context Part 1: The theorist, The Theory and The Context Rudolf Laban, a brilliant acting theorist, inspires many individuals, groups of actors and performers all over the world to this day. His progressive acting theories mold an individual into a character effortlessly and effectively. Although his ideas were not always appreciated, his critics only pushed him to better his techniques. Rudolf Laban was born on December 15th, 1879, in Bratislava, which used to be part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. His Father, a highly decorated Officer in the Army, hoped that Rudolf would follow in his footsteps; however, Rudolf found himself intrigued with the complexity of the arts. He studied art and acting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rudolf Laban died at the age of 78 on July 1st 1998, in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Rudolf Laban s theories focus primarily on movement. His movements are specific to what the actor intends on portraying. Not only so, but the movement of the actor would in turn directly reflect the character s personality. He believed every movement performed displayed a greater purpose to internally reflect on one s character. Thus, His movement theories help an actor to bring out the individuality of each character portrayed in a performance or dance. Part 2: Practical Explorations and Development of the Solo Theatre Piece For this solo piece, I chose to incorporate Laban s theories into an interpretive dance. I display, not two different characters movements, but one character s movements as he/she develops, learns, and grows throughout his/her lifetime. To do so, I will use shadows in the background to interact with the character in order to allow the audience to better comprehend my actions and movements throughout the song. As the actor, I conform to the story line and the character I am portraying by my movements and interactions with the shadows projected onto the backdrop of the stage. As I prepared for this performance, I found it difficult to incorporate the movement patterns of two characters, due to the fact that it is specifically a solo piece rather than a duet or ... • 41. Athanasius Translation Of The Scriptures In Greek Language Around 200 BC, the Old Testament was translated from Hebrew, the language of the Jewish people, into Greek. This translation enabled the common people to read and understand the Scriptures. After Jesus resurrection, the apostles wrote down the account of Jesus life and ministry in the Gospels. They wrote in Greek because it was the common language of the people. The letters written to the churches that sprang up all over the world were also written in Greek. As the years progressed the common language shifted from Greek to Latin. As a result, the common people could not read or understand the Scriptures in Greek. Therefore, Athanasius decided to translate the Bible into the common language of the people. Since Athanasius translation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Nathaniel Hawthorne Essay Nathaniel Hawthorne was one of American literature s finest writers; his writing style was very distinct and unusual in some aspects. It is his background that provided this ambiguous and complex approach to writing. Hawthorne s New England heritage has, at times, been said to be the contributing factor in his works. The Puritan view of life itself was considered to be allegorical, their theology rested primarily on the idea of predestination and the separation of the saved and the damned As evident from Hawthorne s writings his intense interest in Puritanical beliefs often carried over to his novels such as, Young Goodman Brown, The Scarlet Letter, and The Minister s Black Veil just to name a few of the more well known pieces of his work.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both men Dante and Young Goodman Brown embark on a somewhat spiritual journey and come out of it with an insight that they never possessed before relating to the world and their beliefs. Young Goodman Brown had the allegorical elements similar to Dante s Inferno with the use of color, ambiguous statements and the representation of objects. An example of this type of ambiguity of language is when the old man convinces Goodman Brown to come with him: Let us walk on, nevertheless, reasoning as we go, and if I convince thee not, thou shalt turn back. We are but a little way in the forest yet (Hawthorne 615) This statement can be taken one of two ways, either for the literal sense in which the old man is urging him to come or for the allegorical way in which this shows Goodman Brown has a choice in his destiny to make the right decision and turn his back on Satan when he sees God s way is better. Upon returning home Goodman Brown comes to the realization that all the people that meant most in his life that he believed were righteous, upstanding, God fearing citizens were all guilty of being influenced by the devil. Whether he dreamed this or not what happened to him in the forest changed his life in such a dramatic way that it compels him to live the rest of it out in gloom and despair as evident from this paragraph: Often, awakening suddenly at midnight, he shrank from the bosom of Faith, and at morning or eventide, when the family knelt down at prayer, he ... • 44. The Relationship Between Plato s Regimes And Current U.s.... Cooperation and Contrast between Plato s Regimes and Current U.S. Government The U.S. government is a union of partially self governing states or regions under a central government. It is composed of three distinct branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, whose powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the federal courts. The separation of powers, which neither any branch working alone can change the U.S. constitution, is a kind of harmony that is similar to what is described in Plato s aristocratic regime, where each class minds their own jobs to keep the state functioning. Besides, in my opinion, the current U.S. government is a combination of timocracy, oligarchy and democracy, which of four regime types of Plato. According to Socrates, in Timoracy, the spiritedness, which is the love of victory and honors, will be predominant. Timoracy honours the rulers while is contemptuous of manual activities and trade; for its rulers, they will eat communally and devote themselves to gymnastics and training for war. Timoracy will be also governed in being afraid to appoint the wise as rulers, instead, selecting spirited and simpler man, men naturally more directed to war than to peace (Plato 547e). Although they will desire money, they will be niggardly of money since they cannot acquire money openly; therefore, they will love to spend others money to fulfill their aspirations. Due to attach importance to physical training, they will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The History Of Hollywood And The Film Industry Hollywood and the film industry has been impacting American culture and society for many decades now. Over these decades the film industry and society became entangled. The American people influence what types and how films are produced through their actions of going to the theaters. The industry reacts to the market created by the consumers but also comes up with new and creative ideas. These ideas and innovations are tested by those who see the film and how successful they are. One market that has ebbed and flowed through the times has been religious themed films. America is influenced by the role of religion, especially Christianity and Judaism. An important story from these religious groups is the exodus of the Israelites from the bondage of the Egyptians. The first major movie that Hollywood created to tell this story is the Ten Commandments produced in 1956 by Cecil de Mille starring Charlton Heston as the great leader Moses. Recently the film industry created the movie, Exodus: Gods and Kings, produced in 2014 by Ridley Scott with Christian Bale as Moses. Both of these films try to follow the general framework of the exodus of the Hebrews from the Biblical narrative. Pharaoh of Egypt controlled the enslaved Israelites. Even under that oppressive control the Israelites grew their population, which concerned the Pharaoh of an uprising. He decided that the firstborn males of the Israelites should be killed to reduce their population and to keep authority over them. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
