Advantages And Disadvantages Of Small States
There is no sure definition for small states however, it was noted by Commonwealth Secretariat that it
is one with a population of 1.5 million or fewer. Besides population, small states also face similar
challenges that have led them to be defined as small states as stated in the Commonwealth, decline in
global trade, limited capacity to harness growth opportunities, dependent of outsourced imports,
problematic governance capacities, vulnerability to external shocks and natural disasters, high
transportation costs due to insularity and remoteness, small size, dependence on a narrow range of
exports, lack of readily available information for investors and trading partners. The small states are
not able to prosper because they lack resources. According to Hillman and D Agostino, since the
1990s, various indices of economic vulnerability have been developed by the United Nations and the
Commonwealth Secretariat. These small states share measures of openness to trade, export
diversification, access to and reliance on external financial flows, export dependence, international
transportation costs, and vulnerability to natural disasters. (Hillman and D Agostino, 2009).
Many argue that size is a major weak point for small states in the Caribbean. Small states are
overlooked because of their size and population. According to Paul Sutton, while small states are weak
authorities they are not necessarily weak states. But small states can be strong states and can use that

Comparing Shakespeare And Twelfth Night
Twelfth Knight is one of the most popular plays of Shakespeare. Twelfth Night 1996 by Trevor Nunn
is a good imitation of Shakespeare s play. The movie follows the same structure and pattern of the
play. Twelfth Night movie (1996) follows Shakespeare s rules for the structure. It starts with a real
problem that may leads to death which is the shipwreck and the dividing of twins. Each one of the
twins believe that the other one is dead. The use of sounds and imageries in the movie portrays the
scene of the shipwreck in a very dramatic way, especially when the characters fall out of the ship and
attempt to survive. The sound, imagery and the attitude of the characters represent the tragedy
incident. The second rule is the geographical relocation

This would help build trust and strengthen the client/customer relationship.
Assurance: A customer of any organization must always feel assured that his investment in a company
s product or service will be worth the amount they pay. To this end it is important for the company, in
this case Innovative Widgets, to ensure that the products are of high quality and proper after sales
service is provided to its customers. Through this the company can build trust and thus confirm a
repeat sale through its clients over time.
Tangibles: It is important to create a positive impression on potential and more importantly existing
customers. All the touch points in any customer service design must communicate a company s vision
to its customers. These touch points would include the office space, the regular product quality, the
staff. In the case of Innovative Widgets, it would be the knowledgeable staff. It is always comforting
to any customer if the staff assigned to their case is knowledgeable.
Empathy: This aspect extends from the points expressed in the section described in the tangibles
factor. A staff of knowledgeable personnel can better understand the concerns of the clients and
thereby result in much more customized solutions leading to more satisfied customers. An
organization should be focused on its customers needs throughout any engagement.

The Grapes Of Wrath By Ma Joad
Ma Joad: Keeping her family in line since 1939
In a time where women were considered inferior, The Grapes of Wrath uses secondary characters,
specifically Ma Joad, to demonstrate a woman taking charge in a family setting, and the relationships
of such a woman with others. Ma helps amplify the theme of feminism and women s rights in different
scenarios. Her relationships with Pa, her daughter Rose of Sharon, and even herself all convey
different elements of an extraordinary leader and an amazing mother.
Ma and Pa s relationship throughout The Grapes of Wrath defies the idea of a normal couple in the era
of the Dust Bowl. They are represented very much as equals through the conflicts their family has to
face, contrary to other couples, where the husband is in charge. Ma takes the lead in many situations
and Pa respects, and maybe even fears her opinions. Ma commandeers decision making and often
causes conflicts with her strong beliefs. This passage conveys the dynamic of their relationship very
early on in the book: Pa broke in, But s pose there just ain t room? He had twisted his neck to look up
at her, and he was ashamed. Her tone had made him ashamed. [...] She stopped, and Pa turned back,
and his spirit was raw from the whipping. (Steinbeck 132) Not only does Pa look to Ma for advice, but
he also notices that she has a higher authority over the family than he does. It becomes obvious as the
book goes on that he is not well equipped to deal with the situations that

Analyzing The Demand Of The Bidders And Auction Results
Nyborg et al (2002) conduct their study by analysing the demand of the bidders and auction results in
Swedish Treasury auctions during uncertainty at the time of when the bidding occurs. They find that
bidders respond to uncertainty in three separate ways; as uncertainty increases, bidders reduce the
price levels at which they want to bid, they reduce quantity demanded and bidders also increase
bidding dispersion amongst the same bond. Nyborg et al also deem auction size to be a less important
factor than price uncertainty in how it influences the bidders behaviour even though as the auction size
increases, bidders increase their individual demands. They also suggest that cautious bidding involves
both a reduction in prices and a reduction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ahmad and Steeley (2007) further examine a type of price discovery in the bond market review the
types of markets there are, i.e. primary or secondary bond market, by specifically examining the
secondary market. Their objective is to review the secondary market pricing behaviour of U.K bond
auctions by using an event study to test the statistical significance of auctions on the secondary market
bond prices. In their event study, they use the price movement that is associated with a level change in
the zero coupon yield curve as an appropriate benchmark.
Whilst running the regressions on the cumulative average abnormal returns (they refer to them as
CAR( x, x) ) they focus on three scenarios found in earlier yield drift testing, which takes place during
6 days before the auction, on the auction day and up to 8 days after the auction (CAR( 6, 1), CAR(0,0)
and CAR(+1,+8)). They find there is a negative average return in the post auction period. They also
find the most significant variables in explaining bond prices, from their regression modelling, are the
cover and size of the auction.
There is also a positive association between the cover variable and the pre auction CAR, which means
that the greater the demand for gilts at an auction, the greater the abnormal returns. Cover and post
auction CAR are negatively associated showing that the greater the excess demand at an auction, the
smaller the

Analysis Of A Winter s Tale Op 9
Josef Suk was a Czech composer and violinist. In 1894, Suk composed a piece of his works called A
Winter s Tale Op. 9, which was based on Shakespeare. In the beginning years of his career, he was
influenced by Antonin Dvorak, who was Suk s professor at a music academy called Prague
Conservatory. In 1898, Josef Suk ended up marrying Otilie Dvorak, who was the daughter of Antonin
Dvorak. Within the happy life they lived together, Otilie was impressed with her fathers and husbands
works of music and she loved to play the piano, but sadly died at a young age. After the death of
Otilie, Suk went back to revise A Winter s Tale, which was later released to the public in May of 1999.

The sun peacefully begins to set and the world falls into darkness as light snow begins to accumulate.
As the night approaches, soft breezes change the snow s direction from time to time. The wind slowly
gets more powerful with every gust making it evident that the storm is entering its infant stage.
Suddenly, there is a long suspenseful rumble. The cabin and barn braces for the unblockable wall of
wind that races into the buildings. The doors and shutters get buffeted ferociously as their henges
scream in agony trying to hold on. While looking through the window, a nearby tree succumbs to the
straining and splits with a loud crashing noise. The storm continues to maintain its power after the
initial impact. In addition, the storm becomes too dangerous to witness, causing every being in the
cabin to search for cover. The next morning, the sun rises through a light and gentle snow. Cautiously,
everyone stumbles outside to notice that the barn withstood the storm. The anxiety of not knowing the
extent of the damage is put to rest, and everyone returns to reality and can return to their daily lives.
We can see some similarities in description of what the composer had in mind when he wrote this
piece and in the way our group interpreted the music. The piece begins a little tense and unsettling. It
becomes evident that some big event is coming. The intensity

Short Story Samuel By Grace Paley
Samuel Death is an inevitable event. Most times we have no control over how or when it will happen
and in the short story, Samuel, by Grace Paley, a young boy loses his life while he and his friends
partake in a very dangerous game. An unfortunate situation, it was and it leaves you to ask yourself
the question Who s to blame? After thoroughly reading the story, it becomes quite clear that though
the boys were taking a huge risk and acting childish, they were just kids being kids and the people
surrounding them could have done more to help them. The onlookers couldn t have known what
would happen, but they also didn t do much to prevent such a tragedy. The four young boys in the

Most of them looked stern in the face, hoping that the boys would sense their extreme disapproval.
One of the ladies stated she wanted to get up and say, be careful you dumb kids, get off that platform
or I ll call a cop. But then decided against it because they boys were Black and she was afraid they
would laugh at her and embarrass her. Another lady figured the kid s mothers knew where they were

embarrassment, saw the boys jerk forward and backward and grab the swinging guard chains. The
lady then decided it was finally time to save the boys for good so she stood up determined as ever and
went over to the boys and said, You boys will be hurt. You ll be killed. I m going to call the conductor
if you don t just go into the next car and sit down and be quiet. Listening to the lady two of the boys

Analyzing Andrews The Existential Crisis
In The Existential Crisis , Andrews (2016) explains how modern society struggles to figure out the
self. Existential crises produce anxiety within an individual until the crisis has been resolved. Three
versions of existential crises have been identified: sophomore crisis, adult existential crisis, and later
existential crisis. The sophomore crisis occurs when it is hard to identify the dimensions of the self
which is usually in the late teens to early 20s. This can be resolved by helping the individual figure out
future events. The adult existential crisis occurs in the late 20s. Proponents of the sophomore crisis
carry over to the adult existential crisis with an intensity of identity questioning. crisis. The later
existential crisis is the reflection over one s life. Issues such as fear of death or pain occur in the later
existential Relationships and careers are ways to measure the severity of an existential crisis
(Andrews, 2016). The severity of an existential crisis depends on how much dissatisfaction occurs at
work or how much the relationship is failing. Existential crises differ depending on the stage one is in
and point in life the individual is in. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Permanent Impact of the Counter-Culture on Today s...
What is not illusionary is the reality of a new culture of opposition. It grows out of the disintegration
of the old forms, vinyl and aerosol institutions that carry all the inane and destructive values of
privatism; competition, commercialism, profitability and elitism It s not a youth thing by now but a
generational event; chronological age is the only current phase . The previous quote was written by
Andrew Kopkind in Rolling Stone on the Woodstock festival observing that a new culture was

Another way that changed or become popular with the exposure of a counter culture in the sixties and
had shaped the American society was the growth of the rock music, increase of drug, alcohol abuse
and freedom about sex. Hippies were basically blithe about a lot of things that they did not like. These
were signs to get noticed about how they wished to get away from the American culture. One of their
slogans was, Get every creature so stoned they can t stand the plastic shit of American culture (1960 s
200). A history professor, Terry H. Anderson wrote, Hippies commonly took drugs to expand their
consciousness, to rebel against the establishment and to enhance their own sense of being different
(200). They were mainly dissenters who liked experimenting. New drugs came out continuously but
the most popular ones were LSD, marijuana, certain hallucinogens, heroin and alcohol. Surveys from
the sixties show that in early sixties only 4 percent of people from ages 18 to 25 had tried marijuana
and twelve years after, it was 50 percent in the nation as a whole and 60 percent for college students
and even higher in some universities. (201). 1960 s became a drug culture during that era. The rise in
drugs and alcohol usage during the sixties is a cause of the considerable drug and alcohol abuse in the
United States. Today in the U.S. there are approximately 11.5

Literary Analysis Of Rocket Boys
Literary Analysis Essay
Wenchang Richardson
Core 2
Analysis Essay
Back in the days, the job you get mostly depends on what family you are born into. For example
during Rocket Boys by Homer H. Hickam Jr, the setting takes place in Coalwood West Virginia where
Sonny is expected to be a miner when he grows up because everyone in Coalwood and his father s
side has a job that does something the mines. However, when his mom tells him to get out of
Coalwood Sonny decides to become a rocket scientist against his father s desires, this results in his
dad being disappointed in him. Pushing this aside as if it didn t matter at all though Sonny continues
his journey to change Coalwood forever while on the way making his dad see that he is worth more
than being a miner when he got out of his high school years.
Even though all the people in Coalwood are miners, Sonny decides to be a different person so he
decides that he and his groups of friends will build rockets. When he does this it makes his dad upset
with him, and even tried to make him stop by dumping his chemicals. All this did for Sonny was make
his even more determined to build and launch rockets. His first three rockets were good but then that
fourth one when into the mine. Looks like your son wants to be a rocket scientist. He doesn t know
what he wants to be, but I do know what he is Dad said pg 94 The thing that this quote really tells is
that this action makes his dad upset. If it just ended here the rest of the story would be the same. I
would be a very boring memoir of how he gave up and became a miner. Yet I can tell you that this
didn t happen. Instead, Sonny kept on launching and making rockets while his dad became more and
more upset. When Sonny kept on not giving up it lead him to win the national science fair, and this
finally made his dad proud of him. He achieved by being what he wants, and not letting people stop
him.
Determined to prove that he can do better than what his dad says about him leads him on a big journey
of scary, and dangerous things as he does his rocket activities. Earlier that day he saw Sputnik, and
this made him interested in rockets. When he made his first rocket he knew it would be dangerous. In
fact, when he launched the

Adoptive Couple Vs. Baby Girl
Adoptive couple v. Baby Girl was a case that involved the biological parents of the baby girl in
question. The biological mother Christy was Hispanic Caucasian and, the father Mr. Brown, a member

that was passed in 1978 to prevent the illegal and harsh removal of Indian children from the tribes.
This case was a huge battle in the Supreme Court between the biological father Dusten Brown and the

Similar cases occurred in the 1960 s and 1970 s which ultimately resulted in the ICWAAct. In a

agreed to give up parental rights but the relationship of blood could not be terminated nor denied. In
many of these cases from the era prior to ICWA the baby was taken from the adoptive parents and

How Did Classical Architecture Affect The Italian Renaissance
The Italian renaissance was a time period that lasted from the fourteenth century to the sixteenth
century. Some of it s roots go back as far as the 1200s, but for the most part began in the 1300s. The
word Renaissance comes from the French word Rinascimento which translates to Rebirth in French.
Therefore the renaissance was a time of great change, or rebirth, for Italy, and many other European
nations. Everything from art to theater to architecture was affected. There wasn t a single aspect that
was left unchanged. It was the changeover from the Gothic era to Early Modern Era. Although there
were all these new ideas going around, they were ideas based on classical teachings. This movement
began in Tuscany but flourished in Florence and Sienna. The renaissance also effected Rome in a great
way. The renaissance revival was just as important in architecture as it was in other aspects of the
culture such as music and art. The Department of European Paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of

Technology And The Future Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
The package comes, but there is no deliverer. A tractor is plowing the field after a successful harvest,
but there is no driver. This is the future of technology, and more specifically, unmanned aerial
vehicles. UAVs, more commonly referred to as drones, have been advancing for decades now. Their
advancement has not come without opposition though, and while this argument is concentrated behind
drones role in technologies machination over society, the true reality is a shift to mechanization, a
progression the United States has seen before. Historically, many economic shifts have affected the
US, including the shift from agrarian society to industrialization in the Gilded Age, periods which
allowed the US to dominate the world economy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, farmers who are subject to working conditions along with the simple nature of human
abilities which detract from their ability to inspect a field compared to technology, are eliminated in
UAV practices of inspection. The benefit transfers down the line of agriculture when the product the
farmer was able to grow has ended up at the grocery store, and by the same means, the support for the
drones integration is bound to follow.
More acute compared to the agricultural and rural sectors, is the commercial interest of drones through
manufacturers and retailers like Amazon. These have come in headlines labeled as an innovation and
as an intrusion, bringing more opposition than other areas of use. In an article by Trevir Nath, it is

Foreshadowing In The Chocolate War
The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier is a book that provides a sneak peek behind the scenes at the
harmony before the havoc. The book provides a look at how one person fights through the battle of
finding oneself, trying to fix a mistake they made, and how it affects those around them. The Chocolate
War begins with the line They murdered him. An opening that, at first lead to confusion, then became
an enormous point of foreshadowing in the story. The author begins by creating a sensory image of our
characters playing football, getting injured, and leading the reader to believe that this is what the story
would be about. The book really is leading the reader into a complex cast of characters ranging from a
money hungry headmaster to a student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Genocide In Darfur
Concerning the ethnic minorities of Burma, I believe that we are in a period where carefully analyzed
humanitarian input can have a successful impact. Unlike the genocide in Darfur, we re aware of a
developing situation where large scale genocide has not taken place yet. History further lends a hand
in paralleling the cordoning in society of minorities such as the Rohingya with that of the black
African minorities in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. Lessons gained in the events in Sudan should be
considered in defending the minorities of Burma who are facing human rights violation. The first step
is early engagement and awareness. Advocacy before a potential genocide of Burmese minorities will
focus international attention on the Burmese government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Sudanese government refused to allow NGOs into the Nuba Mountains, where genocide by
attrition was taking place. However, a London based human rights group, African Rights, played an
instrumental part in both reaching out to the Nuba as well as bringing their plight to the attention of
the international community. African Rights was able to gain access to the Nuba Mountains and
provide valuable communication logistics to the Nuba, which provided a window to the international
community of the human rights violations carried out by the Sudanese government. Similarly,
Burmese minorities such as the Rohingyas have been separated from the larger Burmese society. They
have very little rights and sustenance. A scenario eerily familiar to that of the Nuba people. We need to
insert humanitarians within these cordoned communities to document human rights violations. The
international community will have a more difficult time ignoring tangible documentation. Moving this

What Is The Theme Of Girl By Jamaica Kincaid Essay

English 101
Professor Grace Hughes
24 October 2017
A Girl and her Mother There are several responsibilities a girl should learn about before going off on
her own and it is usually the mother s job to teach their daughter these life lessons. In the prose poem
Girl, by Jamaica Kincaid, a mother writes out a guide her daughter must follow in order to succeed in
her adult years. This poem that the mother has written for her daughter is better seen as a guide to
adulthood due to her use of an extremely long run on sentence and choice of diction. The run on
sentence consists of a list of commands like this is how you sweep a corner; this is how you sweep a
whole house; this is how you sweep a yard (22 24). Not only does the run on sentence depict that this
is a guide, but so does the constant repetition of this is how and don t ... Show more content on

II. Introduction
Singapore is a thriving port for businesses and its arts sector is more dynamic now than ever before,
with arts organisations enjoying various degrees of success in the consumer market, as well as in
markets for sponsorship and donations, and government support. Even though the three main sources
of revenue may have come to an end, the number of arts organisations competing for financial support
is continuously rising. In view of marketing, one could say that the life cycle of the arts sector has not

III. Proposed Thesis Statement Research Questions
The proposed study hypothesises that the role of branding can affect the financial strength of the arts
centres in Singapore. The study seeks to prove that there is relationship between the role of branding
and the opportunities in financial support for the growing number of arts centres in Singapore.
Financial support for the arts centres are likely to increase if branding strategy with careful
consideration is adopted. Through a review of recent literature covering the role of marketing (and
branding) in affecting the artistic products and arts organisations, the proposed study explores the
connection between the arts centres financial strength and their brands constructed therein. With
particular emphasis on three arts centres in Singapore, namely The Substation, The Esplanade, and
Goodman Arts Centre, five research questions are included to support the thesis. The initial
investigation of the proposed study will attempt to 1) What is branding and its relationship with the
arts in Singapore?; 2) What are the identified arts centres in Singapore?; 3) Do brand extension
strategies for conventional goods and services succeed in the case of arts centres in Singapore? 4)

Examples Of Lead By Example Essay
Lead by Example: Reality or Fiction?
Optimism is a happiness magnet. If you stay positive good things, and people will be drawn to you.
Mary Lou Retton says, driving home a topic brushed by schools and parents. Happiness is something
that everyone strives for and without a goal so large many things would be completely meaningless.
To some people happiness is an amazing house with cars and money but to others, happiness is a
loving, healthy family, a roof over their heads with clothes and food. When a large figure in society or
even a community shows their beliefs through examples, it is hard not to follow or at least be
interested. When something interesting is going on with hands on parts, or even just a couple jokes it
makes a big difference. In a classroom, the teacher is looked at as the person in charge. For seven
hours a day our younger generations are greatly influenced by five or six people more and more every
day. Do we put too much trust in these people? Many teachers love their jobs and thoroughly enjoy
broadening students horizons through education. In a chemistry class, a teacher can hand out
assignments and require hours of book readings every week over a chapter with a test at the end. With

The Role Of Socialization On Gender Identity
The Influence of Socialization on Gender Identity Gender Role Conformity
As evident from the generalized patterns found in differences in behaviour and outlook observed
between the sexes, it may be tempting, as has been done in the past, to conclude that gender is an
unavoidable aspect of human existence as determined purely from one s genes. Indeed, human
physiology is subject to sexual dimorphism; statistically significant differences in brain size and rate
of maturation of specific substructures in the brain exist between males and females (Giedd,
Castellanos, Rajapakese, Vaituzis, Rapoport, 1997), yet these physical differences fail to explain how
individuals form their concept of their own gender, and why they tend to conform to their perceived
gender roles as defined by the society in which they live, when these roles are ever changing. Thus, it
is important to differentiate between the physical and nonphysical traits, and how the labels of
femininity and masculinity should not confuse the two aspects. As defined by Unger (1979), sex
would be used to refer to the biological differences in males and females, while gender describes
socioculturally determined, nonphysiological traits which are arbitrarily designated as being
appropriate for either females or males. With more recent awareness and interest in matters of gender
nonconformity and individual gender identity, new research now explains how these concepts of
gender are shaped by social influences (Perry

Rhetorical Devices In The Aeneid
An ancient philosophy of classical Greece, in its most basic sense, Arete means excellence of any kind
, but more specifically to the culture of the period in which it originated meant the notion of
excellence and the fulfillment of one s purpose and/or function: in other words, the act of living up to
one s full potential .
Example: Aeneas, from the Aeneid, is an example of someone who possesses the foundational aspects
of the Arete philosophy. As a Trojan leader, Aeneas respects prophecy and attempts to incorporate the
idea of his own destiny into his actions, in spite of emotional impulses that conflict with his fated
duties. His ability to accept his destined path despite his unhappiness in doing so makes him a graceful
hero and a worthy recipient of the honor and favor the gods bestow upon him. His compassion for the
sufferings of others, even in conjunction with a single minded devotion to his duty, is another aspect
of his heroism. Sympathetic to the weariness of others on the journey, he delivers speeches to his fleet
to keep the men s spirits high.
Aristeia*
A scene in the rhetorical devices of epic poetry where a hero in battle has his most excellent and
glorified points. Aristeia can be the effect of the loss of life for the protagonist.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of MRI Technology
Learning Outcomes Introduction Over the last several years, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has
become an increasingly popular technique. This is because it has been shown to be effective at
diagnosing various conditions and diseases in the patient. The way that this occurs is the individual is
placed into a movable bed that slides into a machine. This is a large magnet with hydrogen protons
that can go through the body to see different aspects of the internal organs and systems. The images
that are uncovered can tell health care professionals about the extent of a condition impacting the
body. This is when they can determine the best treatment options moving forward. (Albert, 1994)
However, despite the usefulness of this technique, there are still concerns about its accuracy and
possible side effects. To determine the effectiveness of MRIs requires carefully examining the various
benefits and drawbacks. This will be accomplished by conducting a study that is concentrating on a
number of areas to include: the search strategy, overview of the literature, methodologies and
applications. Together, these different elements will highlight the strengths and the weaknesses of
using MRI technology in a modern health care setting. (Shellock, 1999) Search Strategy The basic
search strategy will involve focusing on using online and print resources. The different kinds that will
be examined include: scholarly journals and books. The methodology will involve utilizing

Iodine Therapy Thyroidectomy
Iodine therapy is another option for treatment and is used in coordination with thyroidectomy to
completely ablate the thyroid gland and to postoperatively eradicate possible residual cancer (Nguyen,
et al., 2015). Iodine 131 has had a significant part in the treatment and of thyroid cancer since the mid
1940 s (Nguyen, et al., 2015). Iodine 131 works by entering the thyroid cells via the sodium iodide
transporters and emitting short wavelength beta rays, causing acute cell death (Nguyen, et al., 2015).
The use of Iodine 131 is done in two ways. When administered the first time after surgery, it is
referred to as ablation, whereas subsequent administrations for residual disease are referred to as
treatment (Nguyen, et al., 2015). Iodine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The patient had a thyroidectomy done in 1985. The technologist was looking for any uptake or
nodules that may be present. We didn t expect to find much uptake because the patient had already had
the thyroidectomy. What was found was surprising. The patient had their thyroid gland grow back

study. Normal scans have homogeneous uptake in the entire gland and don t have cold nodule s
present. Abnormal scans can have cold nodules and uptake that is not uniform throughout the gland.
The physician noted that even though this study had more uptake in the right lobe it was due to the
gland being thicker and more of the right gland had grown

Industrialism In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle, By Upton...
Upton Sinclair wrote The Jungle in the hope that not only Americans would find themselves reading
about the dark sides of the common industrial factories, but also people in other countries as well
would see that life for the working class American that had to work in the industrial industry,
specifically as seen in Sinclair s writing the meat packing industry was a dirty, and dangerous job for
workers all caused by the hands of companies that didn t care about their employees. In the American
Experience book it gives a chapter from the book The Jungle, called Living and Dying in Packington,
Chicago Sinclair writes about the life of an immigrant named Jurgis Rudkus with glimpses of others in
his community and their lives working in factories.
The main points of Sinclair s work even from this small section of the whole writing is very heavy

writing a story that unfortunately this story was not made up, Sinclair used his experiences living in
the workers ghettos of Packington, studying the people, and meatpacking industry (pg. 72). Sinclair
argues that the companies and their factories are ruining the workers way of life, physically and

The Apparel Shopper
Comprhensive Case The Apparel Shopper
1. What overall conclusions do you reach after reading this case?
The information in the case gave the overall conclusion that the apparel industry is a very competitive
field to get into and in order to prosper companies must find their own personal niche within the
industry. A company cannot survive in the apparel industry by providing what is already available in
other stores. It is important to define a target market and appeal to their needs and wants. For instance,
Wal Mart appeals to low income individuals, Target and Old Navy appeal to more fashion sensitive
customers, and so on. Ultimately, stores must relate and direct efforts towards specific apparel
shoppers demographics and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why or why not?
The retail implications are that most stores tend to follow the trends and not necessarily set them.
Americans are more conservative than Europeans in their apparel so if a new retailer is trying to break
into the market, he/she should consider how they want to market their clothing. If they want to stand
out, maybe they should invest in newer, trendier clothing. If not, then they should keep their target
market in mind. I don t agree with that statement however, I do believe Americans are trendy
themselves. Many people I know rely on celebrities, magazines, talk shows, and television to figure
out the latest styles and how to wear certain styles. I believe Americans acually focus quite a bit on
trends..especially younger generations. Older generations tend not to follow this idea however.
5. How could the information cited in the case be used in a retail information system?
The information in this case could be used by a retailer to help dicover how to cater to their target
market. Their retail information system can keep track of information on the types of customers that
shop at their stores, such as income level, gender, race, age, ethnicity, and clothing preferences. The
retailer then knows if they are targeting the right customers for their product line and price range or if
they need to change their target market.

History of American Poetry
At its beginning, American poetry was extremely influenced by its European roots. This is evidenced
by the fact that the first colonists were English, who also brought along their poetic styles and
patterns. These European traits set the standard for the genesis of American poetry, which will later we
further developed and adapted by Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson, who are now considered to be
the first great American poets. Because of the strong ties to European poetry, American poets wanted
to distinguish themselves from their origins and began their crusade to build a new foundation for
American poetry. Therefore, the 19th century began with high hopes for poetic accomplishment. The
first comprehensive anthologies of American poetry appeared in the 1820s, 1830s, and 1840s. In the
first half of the century poets sought to entertain, to inform, and to put into memorable language
America s history, myths, manners, and topography, but they did not seek to forge a radical new poetic
tradition. Their poetry built upon tradition, and they met the first great goal of American poetry: that it
be able to compete in quality, intelligence, and breadth with British poetry. But just as they achieved
this goal, poetic aspirations began to change. By the mid 19th century the new goal for American
poetry was to create something very different from British poetry. (MarcoPolo.net). Stephen Crane s
poems (Behold, the grave of a wicked man, I saw a man pursuing the horizon, A Man Said

Mortal Motherhood In The Iliad
It is difficult to reconcile the image of Thetis as a powerful goddess capable of disrupting the cosmic
order1 with her presentation throughout the Iliad as a grief stricken, helpless mother. Indeed, due to
her reiterated mourning in regards to the mortality of her son, the grief experienced by Thetis presents
her as more debilitated than the other gods and goddesses. Epithets such as blessed 2 and living
easily3 describe gods and scenes like the wounding of Aphrodite4 seem parodic,5 which further
emphasis the distance between mortals and immortals. Thetis is set between this distance, as an
immortal goddess having begotten a mortal son, for whom she fully experiences the painful reality of
mortal motherhood. Similarly, another god experiences

Compare And Contrast Hurricane And Tornadoes
If you have never seen a tornado or hurricane, one day you might. Tornadoes and hurricanes are
severe storm systems that can devastate communities, towns, and cities. Storms such as these are very
dangerous and should not be taken lightly. Tornadoes and hurricanes have several similarities as well
as differences. These similarities and differences can be seen in their appearance, casualties, and costs
and damages of the storms. Interestingly, the appearance of a tornado and a hurricane are very
different. A tornado appears as a giant cone shaped figure that touches the ground. A hurricane appears
with heavy rains and strong winds, and appears near the ocean. Tornadoes are rapidly spinning
columns of air that extend from the sky and touch

The Marketing Mix 1: Products, Brands Their Distribution
Question 1: Explain what Fournier means by having a relationship with a brand.
Establishing a relationship with a product brand sounds like a strange thing, we often have numerous
relationships with the brands of products we purchase without even knowing why we do. The article
by Fournier plainly defines that for a relationship with a brand to exist there must be some kind of
interdependence between the product and the partner. The interdependence with the brand may be
emotionally, economically, Robert B. Hinde (1979) best defines this interdependence relationship;
For a relationship to truly exist, interdependence between partners must be evident: ... Show more

The two brands I have chosen from the product categories are a dentist and auto repair. Let s first look
at the dentist and try and decipher if a customer could have a relationship with this provided service.
When you visit the dentist you can pretty much say that it becomes a personal experience. When you
allow someone to open your mouth and stick sharp objects in it, you must or have developed some
kind of relationship with that individual. That relationship may have been established over time
through quality service or you have visited this dentist as a kid. How does this apply to someone who
visits this dentist for the first time? A bond of trustworthiness must be initially established by a first
time customer to complete the dyad. When dealing in a human to human interaction, and especially
with a medical procedure being accomplished, relationships are essential. Both parties in this dyad are
essentially providing a service to each other which clearly establishes a formed relationship with this
service or individual brand.
When trying to define a relationship with an auto repair service brand I believe that there is also a
clear relationship in this matter also. Trustworthiness is also a major factor in this relationship, who
would want to take their automobile to an auto repair service that they do not

  • 3. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Small States There is no sure definition for small states however, it was noted by Commonwealth Secretariat that it is one with a population of 1.5 million or fewer. Besides population, small states also face similar challenges that have led them to be defined as small states as stated in the Commonwealth, decline in global trade, limited capacity to harness growth opportunities, dependent of outsourced imports, problematic governance capacities, vulnerability to external shocks and natural disasters, high transportation costs due to insularity and remoteness, small size, dependence on a narrow range of exports, lack of readily available information for investors and trading partners. The small states are not able to prosper because they lack resources. According to Hillman and D Agostino, since the 1990s, various indices of economic vulnerability have been developed by the United Nations and the Commonwealth Secretariat. These small states share measures of openness to trade, export diversification, access to and reliance on external financial flows, export dependence, international transportation costs, and vulnerability to natural disasters. (Hillman and D Agostino, 2009). Many argue that size is a major weak point for small states in the Caribbean. Small states are overlooked because of their size and population. According to Paul Sutton, while small states are weak authorities they are not necessarily weak states. But small states can be strong states and can use that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The movie follows the same structure and pattern of the play. Twelfth Night movie (1996) follows Shakespeare s rules for the structure. It starts with a real problem that may leads to death which is the shipwreck and the dividing of twins. Each one of the twins believe that the other one is dead. The use of sounds and imageries in the movie portrays the scene of the shipwreck in a very dramatic way, especially when the characters fall out of the ship and attempt to survive. • 7. The Grapes Of Wrath By Ma Joad Ma Joad: Keeping her family in line since 1939 In a time where women were considered inferior, The Grapes of Wrath uses secondary characters, specifically Ma Joad, to demonstrate a woman taking charge in a family setting, and the relationships of such a woman with others. Ma helps amplify the theme of feminism and women s rights in different scenarios. Her relationships with Pa, her daughter Rose of Sharon, and even herself all convey different elements of an extraordinary leader and an amazing mother. Ma and Pa s relationship throughout The Grapes of Wrath defies the idea of a normal couple in the era of the Dust Bowl. They are represented very much as equals through the conflicts their family has to face, contrary to other couples, where the husband is in charge. Ma takes the lead in many situations and Pa respects, and maybe even fears her opinions. Ma commandeers decision making and often causes conflicts with her strong beliefs. This passage conveys the dynamic of their relationship very early on in the book: Pa broke in, But s pose there just ain t room? He had twisted his neck to look up at her, and he was ashamed. Her tone had made him ashamed. [...] She stopped, and Pa turned back, and his spirit was raw from the whipping. (Steinbeck 132) Not only does Pa look to Ma for advice, but he also notices that she has a higher authority over the family than he does. It becomes obvious as the book goes on that he is not well equipped to deal with the situations that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analyzing The Demand Of The Bidders And Auction Results Nyborg et al (2002) conduct their study by analysing the demand of the bidders and auction results in Swedish Treasury auctions during uncertainty at the time of when the bidding occurs. They find that bidders respond to uncertainty in three separate ways; as uncertainty increases, bidders reduce the price levels at which they want to bid, they reduce quantity demanded and bidders also increase bidding dispersion amongst the same bond. Nyborg et al also deem auction size to be a less important factor than price uncertainty in how it influences the bidders behaviour even though as the auction size increases, bidders increase their individual demands. They also suggest that cautious bidding involves both a reduction in prices and a reduction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ahmad and Steeley (2007) further examine a type of price discovery in the bond market review the types of markets there are, i.e. primary or secondary bond market, by specifically examining the secondary market. Their objective is to review the secondary market pricing behaviour of U.K bond auctions by using an event study to test the statistical significance of auctions on the secondary market bond prices. In their event study, they use the price movement that is associated with a level change in the zero coupon yield curve as an appropriate benchmark. Whilst running the regressions on the cumulative average abnormal returns (they refer to them as CAR( x, x) ) they focus on three scenarios found in earlier yield drift testing, which takes place during 6 days before the auction, on the auction day and up to 8 days after the auction (CAR( 6, 1), CAR(0,0) and CAR(+1,+8)). They find there is a negative average return in the post auction period. They also find the most significant variables in explaining bond prices, from their regression modelling, are the cover and size of the auction. There is also a positive association between the cover variable and the pre auction CAR, which means that the greater the demand for gilts at an auction, the greater the abnormal returns. Cover and post auction CAR are negatively associated showing that the greater the excess demand at an auction, the smaller the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Analysis Of A Winter s Tale Op 9 Josef Suk was a Czech composer and violinist. In 1894, Suk composed a piece of his works called A Winter s Tale Op. 9, which was based on Shakespeare. In the beginning years of his career, he was influenced by Antonin Dvorak, who was Suk s professor at a music academy called Prague Conservatory. In 1898, Josef Suk ended up marrying Otilie Dvorak, who was the daughter of Antonin Dvorak. Within the happy life they lived together, Otilie was impressed with her fathers and husbands works of music and she loved to play the piano, but sadly died at a young age. After the death of Otilie, Suk went back to revise A Winter s Tale, which was later released to the public in May of 1999. A Winter s Tale Op. 9, based on Shakespeare was written in ... As the night approaches, soft breezes change the snow s direction from time to time. The wind slowly gets more powerful with every gust making it evident that the storm is entering its infant stage. Suddenly, there is a long suspenseful rumble. The cabin and barn braces for the unblockable wall of wind that races into the buildings. The doors and shutters get buffeted ferociously as their henges scream in agony trying to hold on. While looking through the window, a nearby tree succumbs to the straining and splits with a loud crashing noise. The storm continues to maintain its power after the initial impact. In addition, the storm becomes too dangerous to witness, causing every being in the cabin to search for cover. The next morning, the sun rises through a light and gentle snow. Cautiously, everyone stumbles outside to notice that the barn withstood the storm. The anxiety of not knowing the extent of the damage is put to rest, and everyone returns to reality and can return to their daily lives. We can see some similarities in description of what the composer had in mind when he wrote this piece and in the way our group interpreted the music. The piece begins a little tense and unsettling. It becomes evident that some big event is coming. The intensity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An unfortunate situation, it was and it leaves you to ask yourself the question Who s to blame? After thoroughly reading the story, it becomes quite clear that though the boys were taking a huge risk and acting childish, they were just kids being kids and the people surrounding them could have done more to help them. But then decided against it because they boys were Black and she was afraid they would laugh at her and embarrass her. • 32. Bon Homme Richard Research Paper After arriving back on the boat, Israel and the crew disagree on the name of the ship, and they started to debate what the name should be. They chose the name Bon Homme Richard, after debating, and naming it after Poor Richard . Israel founds himself on a fight with the Serapis, who was outnumbered by the member on the ship, Serapis having twice as many members on their boat. Both ships lost almost all the members, although, at the end, Richard had a larger advantage than Serapis did. Now, as the Richard was damaged, Israel had moved to the British ship, Ariel. He used the alias Peter Perkin as his identity. At first, the crew on Ariel did not believe him, because they thought he was not one of their man , but Israel proved to the ... • 33. The Role Of Socialization On Gender Identity The Influence of Socialization on Gender Identity Gender Role Conformity As evident from the generalized patterns found in differences in behaviour and outlook observed between the sexes, it may be tempting, as has been done in the past, to conclude that gender is an unavoidable aspect of human existence as determined purely from one s genes. Indeed, human physiology is subject to sexual dimorphism; statistically significant differences in brain size and rate of maturation of specific substructures in the brain exist between males and females (Giedd, Castellanos, Rajapakese, Vaituzis, Rapoport, 1997), yet these physical differences fail to explain how individuals form their concept of their own gender, and why they tend to conform to their perceived gender roles as defined by the society in which they live, when these roles are ever changing. Thus, it is important to differentiate between the physical and nonphysical traits, and how the labels of femininity and masculinity should not confuse the two aspects. As defined by Unger (1979), sex would be used to refer to the biological differences in males and females, while gender describes socioculturally determined, nonphysiological traits which are arbitrarily designated as being appropriate for either females or males. With more recent awareness and interest in matters of gender nonconformity and individual gender identity, new research now explains how these concepts of gender are shaped by social influences (Perry ... At first Mr. Orwell wasn t bothered by the deaths at the gallows. A Hindu man who was being escorted to his death changed Mr. Orwell s thoughts. This man, stepped around a puddle as he was walking to his death, this caused Mr. Orwell to realize that the Hindu man was just as human and alive as anyone else. In Mr. Orwell s righting A Hanging he expresses his felling for capital punishment in different ways. He speaks in his writing about how the prisoners weren t properly fed and how the prisoners looked like small animals locked up in a cage. • 35. Rhetorical Devices In The Aeneid An ancient philosophy of classical Greece, in its most basic sense, Arete means excellence of any kind , but more specifically to the culture of the period in which it originated meant the notion of excellence and the fulfillment of one s purpose and/or function: in other words, the act of living up to one s full potential . Example: Aeneas, from the Aeneid, is an example of someone who possesses the foundational aspects of the Arete philosophy. As a Trojan leader, Aeneas respects prophecy and attempts to incorporate the idea of his own destiny into his actions, in spite of emotional impulses that conflict with his fated duties. His ability to accept his destined path despite his unhappiness in doing so makes him a graceful hero and a worthy recipient of the honor and favor the gods bestow upon him. His compassion for the sufferings of others, even in conjunction with a single minded devotion to his duty, is another aspect of his heroism. Sympathetic to the weariness of others on the journey, he delivers speeches to his fleet to keep the men s spirits high. Aristeia* A scene in the rhetorical devices of epic poetry where a hero in battle has his most excellent and glorified points. Aristeia can be the effect of the loss of life for the protagonist. Example 1: Book 5 of the Iliad is an example of aristeia, in which Diomedes prays to Athena for revenge, and the goddess endows him with superhuman strength and the extraordinary power to discern gods on the field of ... • 36. Evaluating the Effectiveness of MRI Technology Learning Outcomes Introduction Over the last several years, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an increasingly popular technique. This is because it has been shown to be effective at diagnosing various conditions and diseases in the patient. The way that this occurs is the individual is placed into a movable bed that slides into a machine. This is a large magnet with hydrogen protons that can go through the body to see different aspects of the internal organs and systems. The images that are uncovered can tell health care professionals about the extent of a condition impacting the body. This is when they can determine the best treatment options moving forward. (Albert, 1994) However, despite the usefulness of this technique, there are still concerns about its accuracy and possible side effects. To determine the effectiveness of MRIs requires carefully examining the various benefits and drawbacks. This will be accomplished by conducting a study that is concentrating on a number of areas to include: the search strategy, overview of the literature, methodologies and applications. Together, these different elements will highlight the strengths and the weaknesses of using MRI technology in a modern health care setting. (Shellock, 1999) Search Strategy The basic search strategy will involve focusing on using online and print resources. The different kinds that will be examined include: scholarly journals and books. The methodology will involve utilizing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Iodine Therapy Thyroidectomy Iodine therapy is another option for treatment and is used in coordination with thyroidectomy to completely ablate the thyroid gland and to postoperatively eradicate possible residual cancer (Nguyen, et al., 2015). Iodine 131 has had a significant part in the treatment and of thyroid cancer since the mid 1940 s (Nguyen, et al., 2015). Iodine 131 works by entering the thyroid cells via the sodium iodide transporters and emitting short wavelength beta rays, causing acute cell death (Nguyen, et al., 2015). The use of Iodine 131 is done in two ways. When administered the first time after surgery, it is referred to as ablation, whereas subsequent administrations for residual disease are referred to as treatment (Nguyen, et al., 2015). Iodine ... The technologist was looking for any uptake or nodules that may be present. We didn t expect to find much uptake because the patient had already had the thyroidectomy. What was found was surprising. The patient had their thyroid gland grow back over time especially the right lobe. According to an article in Clinical Endocrinology thyroid tissue being present after a thyroidectomy is not that uncommon. The study from Clinical Endocrinology showed thyroid tissue was present in about half the patients on SPECT/CT studies (Barber, Cherk, Toplisst, Serpell, Yap, Bailey Klaff, 2014). There was more uptake on the right gland in this case study. Normal scans have homogeneous uptake in the entire gland and don t have cold nodule s present. Abnormal scans can have cold nodules and uptake that is not uniform throughout the gland. The physician noted that even though this study had more uptake in the right lobe it was due to the gland being thicker and more of the right gland had grown ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Industrialism In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle, By Upton... Upton Sinclair wrote The Jungle in the hope that not only Americans would find themselves reading about the dark sides of the common industrial factories, but also people in other countries as well would see that life for the working class American that had to work in the industrial industry, specifically as seen in Sinclair s writing the meat packing industry was a dirty, and dangerous job for workers all caused by the hands of companies that didn t care about their employees. In the American Experience book it gives a chapter from the book The Jungle, called Living and Dying in Packington, Chicago Sinclair writes about the life of an immigrant named Jurgis Rudkus with glimpses of others in his community and their lives working in factories. The main points of Sinclair s work even from this small section of the whole writing is very heavy hitting along with at the time of publication probably was seen as controversial, it was a new type of writing a story that unfortunately this story was not made up, Sinclair used his experiences living in the workers ghettos of Packington, studying the people, and meatpacking industry (pg. 72). Sinclair argues that the companies and their factories are ruining the workers way of life, physically and mentally, leading to the idea of capitalism and companies becoming so obsessed with how fast can a product be made then the quality of the product and well being for the employee (pg.72). The information in the case gave the overall conclusion that the apparel industry is a very competitive field to get into and in order to prosper companies must find their own personal niche within the industry. A company cannot survive in the apparel industry by providing what is already available in other stores. It is important to define a target market and appeal to their needs and wants. For instance, Wal Mart appeals to low income individuals, Target and Old Navy appeal to more fashion sensitive customers, and so on. Ultimately, stores must relate and direct efforts towards specific apparel shoppers demographics and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why or why not? The retail implications are that most stores tend to follow the trends and not necessarily set them. Americans are more conservative than Europeans in their apparel so if a new retailer is trying to break into the market, he/she should consider how they want to market their clothing. If they want to stand out, maybe they should invest in newer, trendier clothing. If not, then they should keep their target market in mind. I don t agree with that statement however, I do believe Americans are trendy themselves. Many people I know rely on celebrities, magazines, talk shows, and television to figure out the latest styles and how to wear certain styles. I believe Americans acually focus quite a bit on trends..especially younger generations. Older generations tend not to follow this idea however. 5. How could the information cited in the case be used in a retail information system? The information in this case could be used by a retailer to help dicover how to cater to their target market. Their retail information system can keep track of information on the types of customers that shop at their stores, such as income level, gender, race, age, ethnicity, and clothing preferences. The retailer then knows if they are targeting the right customers for their product line and price range or if they need to change their target market. 6 What additional consumer related information would you ... • 42. History of American Poetry At its beginning, American poetry was extremely influenced by its European roots. This is evidenced by the fact that the first colonists were English, who also brought along their poetic styles and patterns. These European traits set the standard for the genesis of American poetry, which will later we further developed and adapted by Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson, who are now considered to be the first great American poets. Because of the strong ties to European poetry, American poets wanted to distinguish themselves from their origins and began their crusade to build a new foundation for American poetry. Therefore, the 19th century began with high hopes for poetic accomplishment. The first comprehensive anthologies of American poetry appeared in the 1820s, 1830s, and 1840s. In the first half of the century poets sought to entertain, to inform, and to put into memorable language America s history, myths, manners, and topography, but they did not seek to forge a radical new poetic tradition. Their poetry built upon tradition, and they met the first great goal of American poetry: that it be able to compete in quality, intelligence, and breadth with British poetry. But just as they achieved this goal, poetic aspirations began to change. By the mid 19th century the new goal for American poetry was to create something very different from British poetry. Epithets such as blessed 2 and living easily3 describe gods and scenes like the wounding of Aphrodite4 seem parodic,5 which further emphasis the distance between mortals and immortals. Establishing a relationship with a product brand sounds like a strange thing, we often have numerous relationships with the brands of products we purchase without even knowing why we do. The article by Fournier plainly defines that for a relationship with a brand to exist there must be some kind of interdependence between the product and the partner. When you allow someone to open your mouth and stick sharp objects in it, you must or have developed some kind of relationship with that individual. That relationship may have been established over time through quality service or you have visited this dentist as a kid. How does this apply to someone who visits this dentist for the first time? A bond of trustworthiness must be initially established by a first time customer to complete the dyad.
