Lecturer: Dr. Lester Massingham/ Dr. Tom
Abstract
This report is based on the advantages and disadvantages of business format franchising and the
fundamentals of market entry methods. Using McDonalds which happens to be one of the largest food
service companies in the world, the author of this paper will look into the concepts of various market
entry strategies in comparison to business format franchising. This report will also look into various
elements that will essentially be needed to be addressed. It will critically discuss the various aspects
involved in franchising as a market entry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has been seen as the most widely utilised mode of entry towards rapid international expansion and is
primarily employed by fast food chains such as KFC, Wendy s, Kenny Rogers, A amp; W and
McDonald s among others followed by consumer service businesses such as hotel chains and car
rental, agencies such as Avis and Hertz. Franchises are basically ongoing business relationships which
involves 2 components (the franchisor and the franchisee). The franchisor (the owners of the business
format) issues a licence through an agreement which allows the franchisee the right or privilege to
distribute the goods and services that represents the franchisor s brand and business system for an
agreed sum (royalty or fee) (Doole amp; Lowe, 2008). In other words, franchising allows the rapid
growth or market expansion using a proven business format (intellectual property of the franchisor) it
also allows the assistance in the form of capital as well as the fervour of a group of network operators
that enhance the market positioning of the franchisee which would not be possible for a new business
without huge capitals (Dugan, 1998).
The basics of franchising involve the following elements which are most commonly found in most
franchise agreements. These factors are common, but not compulsory as it depends on the mutual
understanding between the franchisor and the franchisee.

Sight And Blindness In Oedipus The King
Pushed to the last breaking point, Teiresias finally reveals the truth that the audience has been waiting
for. However, instead of the anticipated cathartic climax to release the accumulated dramatic tension
and irony from Oedipus s misguided pursuit of the truth, the play bombards the audience with still
more tension and tragic irony in an emotional roller coaster as Oedipus and Iocaste attempts to run
away from their inevitable fate. Oedipus refuses to believe the truth Teiresias reveals. Wrongly
equating physical sight with mental insight, wit, and sense, he taunts Teiresias for his physical
blindness, calling him a sightless, witless, senseless, mad old man! (20) Reciprocating Oedipus insult
for insult, Teiresias mocks Oedipus for blinding himself to the truth, to the wretchedness of [his] life,
and to the blind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although clear vision often represents intelligence and insight in Greek beliefs, Oedipus s perfect
eyesight does not help him see the truth. Ironically, it is the blind Teiresias who knows the most and
sees the farthest. Nevertheless, Oedipus is soon forced to confront the truth again, ironically because
Iocaste tries to steer him away from the truth, when the details she reveal about how King Laios is
killed matches in many details his own confrontation with King Laios. However, just as it seems
Oedipus and Iocaste have returned to the path to the truth and the ultimate climax, they diverge off the
path again as they latch themselves onto King Polybus s death as surefire evidence that Oedipus is not
the murderer. Oedipus is so happy and relieved to be able to convincingly blind himself to the truth
again that he displays no grief for the father he loved, declaring that Polybos has packed the oracles
off with him underground (50) with shocking triumph and carelessness for the

The Social Gospel Moverment
The Social Gospel The Social Gospel is the idea of social problems being looked and fixed with a
Christian point of view. The Gospel will always stay the same and we should refer the Social Gospel
as living out the Gospel. The goal of the Social Gospel Movement was to tie salvation and good work
together. They thought people should live the life of a Jesus Christ. Classes, counseling, job training
and libraries were provided by churches to act according to the Social Gospel. The origins and issues
of the Social Gospel Movement, how the Social Gospel related to a Progressive Era, the work of
Walter Rauschenbusch, and how Social Gospel relates to the Gospel will be covered in this essay. The
Social Gospel started in the early twentieth century as an intellectual movement. The purpose was to
live out The Lord s Prayer during our day to day lives. Social Gospel applied Christian ethics to social
problems like the issues of social justice. A group of liberal Protestant progressives started the
movement because they weren t satisfied with social problems around them and they did not feel
enough was being done to solve the problems. Social problems associated with rapid industrialization,
urbanization, and increasing immigration of the Gilded Age were the primary concern. The concept of
a society that respects elements of justice is called social justice. Social justice is usually applied to the

Supply Chain And Its Effect On Farmers
Supermarket expansion not only affects farmers in the supply chain, but also the rest of the food retail
sector. Traditional retailers face extra competition and potential loss of market share, but may benefit
from foreign supermarkets through spillover effects of the latest retail techniques. Large supermarket
chains are also likely to affect the average retail prices in the markets they operate. These issues are
studied by Basker (2005, 2007) There is a growing empirical literature indicating that supermarkets
impose a positive productivity effect on farmers in their supply chain. Based on field interviews with
supermarkets and a farm survey among tomato growers in Guatemala, Hernandez et al. (2007) find
that farmers who are supplying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results suggest that the supermarket expansion will continue, but not at an explosive rate. There is
no consensus in the empirical literature on whether the agricultural sector benefits from the presence
of supermarkets. Empirical analyses find that supermarkets represent both opportunities and
challenges for local farmers. Their contribution is the construction and calibration of a Ramsey growth
model to identify the consequences of supermarket expansion for agricultural productivity and
structural change. The methodological approach clarifies the underlying adjustment mechanisms
involved, and allows for endogenous interaction between agricultural productivity and supermarkets
dependence on local suppliers. Numerical simulations show how the two way relationship between
supermarkets and local farmers acts to reinforce dynamic processes, either decreasing the chances of
escaping a low productivity trap or strengthening technological catch up. This kind of model
simulation supplements econometric analyses that struggle with causality issues and are unclear about
the channel of effects (Stokke, 2009). Our incorporation of the productivity linkage between
supermarkets and local farmers offers a possible interpretation of the conflicting results in the
empirical literature: depending on the extent of local constraints related to

The Charge of the Light Brigade
The poem The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson is about a battle in which a
commander commits a faux pas and orders his men to move forward with an defensive strategy that
would result with their imminent death. As the poem goes on it tells us that we should honor these
men because although they knew their leader had made a life altering decision, they carried through
with it due to the fact that he was their leader. Tennyson uses personification, metaphor, imagery,
symbolism, and anaphora in order to take the reader back in time and to help the reader understand the
reason behind their tragic demise.
There are three main themes in this poem and they are respect and reputation, duty, and warfare. In the
poem Alfred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personification is used to when Tennyson says, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell. . He
uses this in order to create an image of the Russian army swallowing the brigade. He also uses the
metaphor Valley of Death to describe the battlefield, along with Jaws of Death and Mouth of Hell to
construe the Russian Army. Alfred uses imagery especially in stanzas 3 to 5 when he is explaining the
scene surrounding the men. He uses strong verbs in order to assert that the battle wasn t easy and it
reduced them in numbers. He also uses anaphora which means repeating the same beginning word line
after line, he does this to enunciate the danger surrounding the men as they entered the enemy lines.
To me this poem is tragically inspirational because the men didn t desert their leader even though they
knew he was at fault and that his mistake would result in heavy consequences. These soldiers were the
best of the best and they carried on fully knowing what was waiting for them in the valley of death .
They died with the honour of knowing they did all they could and that they died as more than soldiers,
they died as a family. Gary Neville once said, A collection of strong minded individuals who have
learned how to dismiss mistakes, disappointments, and problems make up a strong team. In my
opinion this explains my awe and reverence in these men because they never gave up

Satire Analysis
The Power from Jokes
According to the psychologist, Daniel Goleman, People should be emotional intelligent. Goleman is
the author of Emotional Intelligence Why it can Matter More Than IQ formulates a different definition
of smart. The elements that create what it means to be emotionally intelligent are incorporated to the
figurative language, satire. Many comedians are using satire to expose flaws and criticize the political
system. Trevor Noah, a satirist, is a good example of how satire works in comedy and how the
audience reacts to it. The use of satire is so effective when it is incorporated in comedy since it has the
ability to challenge authority and have political influence.
First of all, the only difference between satire and criticism is that satire is implied and not overtly
stated. Satire is a form of being able to indicate human behavior disobedience and social resistance. It
derives from the Latin word satura meaning the involvement of basic principles of stage show to the
introduction of formal Latin comedy. Which is why satire is used mainly from comedians. It also
communicated in literature, internet, comics and cartoons. Comedians expose most of work through
the form of satire because it is a way to alert people by grabbing their attention to something that they
can laugh about instead of getting serious about it. It is not meant to provoke any real change. Satire
consists of a few characteristics like humor, irony, sarcasm, critic, and implication. Satire

My Love For Art
Ever since I was a child I have always had a creative mind. My weekends as a little girl revolved
around trips to the craft store, crazy projects in the kitchen and dance routines. During the summer
months, I would make the most elaborate journals, with each journal entry paired with their unique
picture, many of which that were either pop up or holographic (sparkly nail polish was a must). Within
my high school career, I took the rigorous, I.B. higher level
Visual Arts. This course stretched my creative mind. Piece by piece and year by year my artistic style
warped and developed into my own. Towards senior year, my painting had a signature style,
recognizable even without my name signed in the lower corners. I participating in local art
competitions and was inspired by students my age and their love for art too. When considering what I
wanted to pursue career wise in life I knew I would be restricting myself if I did not follow my heart
and go a creative route. Fashion merchandising was a perfect blend of business and creativity. It is an
industry that never stops and is limitless in opportunities. As a Texas resident, I eagerly applied to
schools only out of state. I wanted to jump into college and surround myself with diverse people in a
foreign area. The University of South Carolina caught my eye because of its nationally recognized
program in Fashion Merchandising. I toured the university and fell in love with the school s history,
traditions and support from its staff.

Marian Wright Edelm An American Activist For The Rights Of...
Marian Wright Edelman was born on June 6, 1939. Edelman is an American activist for the rights of
children. Edelman s mother and father who was a Baptist minister taught her and her siblings that
serving in their community was life s duty. Edelman s parents also taught her and her siblings that
poverty nor racism should ever get in their way of trying to achieve something. The way Edelman was
raised was an inspiration to her and she knew she wanted to make a change for the better in this
country. In 1973 Edelman founded the Children s Defense Fund. The purpose of the organization is to
to ensure every child a healthy start, a head start, a fair start, a safe start, and a moral start in life and
successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities. (Wikipedia) In the
essay Standing Up for Children Edelman s purpose is for us the people to treat children right and
others fairly regardless of their color or economic status. Edelman herself is African American. Her
thesis is stated directly throughout her whole essay. Edelman uses forms of patterns throughout her
essay to get her points across. In her essay she asks a lot of questions and then provides us with the
answers. She also uses and quotes the bible to prove and refer back to her points. The reason why I
believe she asks us questions is to get us thinking while were reading and she also wants us to keep
her answers into consideration. I also understand why she uses the bible as a

Clarkson Lumber Company Experienced Significant Sales Growth
From 1993 through 1995, Clarkson Lumber Company experienced significant sales growth 19.0%
from 1993 to 1994 and 30.0% between 1994 and 1995. Profitability also increased, but not nearly at
the same pace as sales revenue. Net income rose from $60,000 in 1993 to $68,000 in 1994 (a 13.3%
increase), to $77,000 in 1995 (13.2% increase). This increase in sales and profitability demanded
growth in working capital and fixed assets to finance the growth, creating a need for cash that
outpaced free cash flow into the firm. Furthermore, Mr. Clarkson s buyout payments to Mr. Holtz in
1995 and 1996 only added to the liquidity predicament. Thus, Clarkson was compelled to draw upon
his line of credit with Suburban National Bank and begin relying heavily on trade credit, quickly
maxing out his bank credit line by the end of 1995.
The financial strength of Clarkson Lumber has deteriorated between 1993 and 1995. Clarkson had a
free cash flow to the firm of +$2,000 in 1994, but that dropped to $159,000 for 1995. EBITDA
increased over the period, but not matching the pace of net debt increases; Clarkson s leverage (Net
Debt / EBITDA) was 1.21 in 1993, increasing to 2.31 and 2.95 in 1994 and 1995, respectively. First
quarter 1996 statements annualized over the entire year projected leverage to increase to 4.94 by the
end of 1996, assuming no credit line cap and no other changes.
The trade discount of 2% provides a very attractive opportunity for Clarkson Lumber to dramatically

Voodoo Culture
Zombies
Zombies were and still are used in everyday television shows and films such as the show The Walking
Dead and they are portrayed as scary, flesh eating monsters that come up from the grave and terrorize
their environment. A man named George A Romero really helped bring the idea of the dead coming
back to life into pop culture. But what really makes a zombie, a zombie? There are a lot of monsters
that can be described the same way as zombies but this definition is what classifies them and puts
them in the category as zombies. A zombie is an undead being created through the reanimation of a
human corpse. The term comes from Haitian folklore, where a zombie is a dead body reanimated
through various methods, and the most commonly known way is through black magic or voodoo
(Wikipedia 1).
To understand how powerful Vodou, or as we commonly see it, Voodoo is, we must first learn where it
originated from and how it is used and incorporated into the everyday lives of the people who use it.
Voodoo practice and culture did not come from Haiti, despite popular belief. It originated from Africa
and was brought to Haiti when slaves were migrated down there. When some hear the word voodoo,
the first thing they think about is an evil force that people use to destroy others lives. This has not
always been the case. Voodoo was seen as some sort of religion where people were constantly
communicating with the dead asking for protection, guidance, etc. In turn, the people would have to

Examples Of Cognitive Dissonance And Violence
A psychologist would apply the psychological school of thought of cognitive dissonance theory to the
theme of violence. Cognitive dissonance theory is when there is inconsistency within the person, they
tend to do things to eliminate dissonance and gain consistency with themselves. People who are in
cognitive dissonance use violent acts to get back into consistency. This is shown in the movie Crash
when Farhad tries to kill Daniels daughter Laura because Farhad thinks that Daniel robbed is store.
Farhad being in cognitive dissonance goes to Daniels house and tries to shoot him. But, Laura walks
in front of him trying to save him. Farhad feels the only way to come back to consistency is to take
revenge on Daniel. Another example can be seen in the movie American History X when the reporter
interviews Derek about his father s death. After his father s death Derek was in dissonance, he thinks
to only way to get back into consistency is to hate black people. He commits violent acts not only
physically but verbally to black people. Violence is also shown in the movie Pleasantville when the
non colored people destroy Bill s diner and all his paintings that he drew. In Made in Dagenham
violence is displayed when Eddie hits the pillow to take out his anger because he is mad at Rita.
Lastly, in the movie In Out violence is shown when Emily is in dissonance because Howard came out
on the wedding day so she resorts to violence and punches Howard in the face. Discrimination is one

Descriptive Essay Roommate
I went back into my dorm room. I sat my things down on the kitchen table and turned to the fridge,
opening to get a drink of water as I was literally dying of thirst.
Are you my roommate? I jumped and quickly turned around. My roommate s appearance that I just
met now, has a light brown bob cut, rounded glasses with grey eyes, wearing a casual navy blue dress
with a red leather belt. She stood near the table with her boxes and bags and I gave her a calm look,
with a gentle smile.
Oh yes, my name s Elaine. Nice to meet you, and you are?
I m Kira. Sorry I came here a bit late, traffic. She gave a little laugh and I accepted it. We began to sit
down on the kitchen table and got to know each other as we kept talking, it seemed to be that she is
also new, in my classes, and we could somehow relate with each other on our likes, dislikes, choices,
and other little things. Kira is one of those people who is an introvert at first, but when you get to talk
to her more, she seems to be more easygoing and very kind and friendly.
Hmm, what to do, what to do. I say as I roam around in my small room after saying our goodnights to
each other after our time talking. I decided to lay on the queen sized bed, with my choice of own
sheets that are pink polka dots with a grey background. My walls are a beige colour as everything else
were to be only filled with other colours, mixed with plain such as brown and black.

The Socratic Method In Euthyphro
The Socratic Method is a very famous method of questioning that is not very known, although it is
very important, even today. It inspires the respondent to dig deeply and think about the question with a
new mind and new freedom which is obtained by discarding the previously held beliefs. The Socratic
Method is valued because it allows people to live their lives in virtue. Living a virtuous life means to
be honest, respectful, courageous, forgiving, and kind. One who lives a virtuous life is able to live a
happy life. While reading The Euthyphro by Plato, I came across the use the Socratic Method. The
Socratic Method is useful in that it enables a person to live a virtuous life. The three parts to the

accurate definition of piety to prove to Socrates that it is right to prosecute his own father. Socrates
asks for a standard definition of piety, so he could figure out what was pious and what was not; a list
of examples does not really do that. Socrates than gives Euthyphro a chance to give a more honest, so
he is able to live in Virtue. The second definition is a step up from the first, giving an actual definition,

Code of Conduct in the Workplace
What do we think about when we hear the words code of conduct? There will be a lot of difference of
opinions from different individuals, but I think it is basically what an organization expects from its
members. Almost every organization, whether it be a Fortune 500 company, a small restaurant chain,
bar, or even a fraternal order, they all have expectations of how each of its members or employees
should act among each other and when dealing with customers outside the organization. Most of these
principles will be set forth by an organization in their Code of Conduct which will most likely have to
be reviewed and signed by you before becoming an employee of the company. Most organizations will
impose some type of penalty for those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are most definitely significant because under federal law, they must implement these into their
normal daily business practices. All employees must understand them and acknowledge them by
usually singing a written statement that goes on file in their employment record. Chipotle like most
organizations prohibits unlawful discrimination, harassment, and sexual harassment in the workplace.
And in most places, if an employee is found to have participated in one of these acts, they will be
disciplined up to and including termination from the organization. Chipotle believes that abiding by
these rules and values due to the fact that they make good business sense and are most definitely the
right things to do!
Most organizations will tell you it is hard to ensure that employees are following the code of conduct
without relying on word from someone that might have witnessed the violation. In the case of
Chipotle, they could install cameras in their restaurants to help monitor the day to day activity of their
employees. They could offer the employees surveys to see how the management team is doing around
them and ask them certain questions about the code of conduct policies to see if they feel someone is
in violation of them. It is hard in a business of fast food to always watch each employee and how they
act around each other and the customers. The managers and

Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings
Humanity s inherent desire for results and rewards belittles the process of a journey,
undervaluing/deprecating the character development that comes within, which notably can be
portrayed in Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings . In her metafictional short story, Atwood includes six
different scenarios that are labeled A to F, which briefly describes the characters lives, ultimately
ending with death. Moreover, the names of characters recur in each scenario, referencing one another
throughout the entire short story. Particularly when Atwood s short story Happy Endings was
published, people noticed that she was questioning gender roles and Canada s progress towards
equality (Seaman). In recent times, critics see her short story attacking ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, in this case, the Bible oppresses women by limiting them to remain in their household.
Hence, Atwood is stunned that the Bible even enforces such a discriminatory idea; she refers this
imposition as evil , evidently indicating that she defies the Bible s principles as well as illustrating
herself as a feminist. With the establishment of an Equality Clause , Atwood s role as a civil activist
influenced her to write Happy Endings to further criticize the arbitrary roles and norm that negatively
impacted women. Almost a year prior to the publication of Atwood s short story, an Equality Clause
was included in the Constitution of Canada , guaranteeing men, women and the disabled equal rights.
In a 1994 Booklist review, Donna Seaman, the adult editor of Booklist, mentions that Atwood
continues to question the roots of [society s] assumptions about gender roles, testing ...[Canada s]
shaky sense of progress toward equality ( Good Bones and Simple Murders ). Doubtlessly, Atwood s
short story displays how women easily fall prey to sexism. As of recently, Rena Korb, an American
feminist, points out that Atwood criticizes societal conventions, particularly those surrounding the
roles of women (2). For instance, in Version B, Mary suffers from a one sided relationship with John
in which she invites

Taoism And Confucianism
When the government structure in China fell apart creating chaos emerged two major religions,
Taoism and Confucianism. These two roles played a big part during this time to get things back in

not into much of the government. They believe the least the government the better. Lao tzu who is the
founder of Taoism is known for saying Govern a great nation as you would cook a small fish do not

As an infant, his parents sent him into the sea for safety. He was rescued by the daughter of the
pharaoh of Egypt (p. 245). The difference with Moses was raised in a royal family not born into one.
This stood out to me for the fact that both came from different classes of a family with a purpose in
life. It shows you do not have to be wealthy to have a purpose in life.
Another thing both Moses and Zoroaster had in common was they were both called by God at an older
age to find out their purpose in life. At a crucial time in Zoroaster s life, he had a vision of Vohu Mana
an archangel who appeared in the size of a man. He was told there is only one true God, Ahura Mazda
and he would become a prophet. This archangel continued to appear to Zoroaster several more times
as he continued to preach the revelation of Ahura Mazda (p. 227). Like Zoroaster, Moses was in a
crucial part in his life after being exiled to the Sinai Desert for killing an Egyptian in self defense
when the God of Abraham appeared to him. The difference is God revealed himself to Moses speaking
through a burning bush. God commanded Moses to return to Egypt and free the Israelites from
slavery. God continued guiding Moses to freedom. This stood out to me because I am familiar with
this story and learned more about it.

souls go to a place after they leave the body.

Death Marches During the Holocaust
Death Marches are forced marches of prisoners for a long distance with bad conditions. Throughout
the Holocaust, death marches were used quite frequently. Nazi s thought they were one of the easiest
and most efficient ways to kill off all of the Jews and other prisoners. Thousands and thousands of
prisoners sent on Death Marches died during the Holocaust. The purpose of these death marches was
to kill the Jews so there would be no evidence of what the Nazi s did. The conditions they endured
were horrible, and they died because of starvation, exhaustion, and dehydration. Less than 50% of all

Symptoms And Treatment Of Asthma
Background
Asthma is a perpetual, or long lasting, illness that could potentially be life threating. In the United
States of America, about 25 million people are known to have asthma[nhlbi]. About 7 million of the
25 million diagnosed with asthma are children[nhlbi]. Asthma can be described as the inflammation,
obstruction and hyperresposiveness of the airway.
Asthma might be classified as acute, sub acute or chronic inflammation of the airway. In asthma, there
is a spastic contraction of the smooth muscle in the bronchioles[gyton]. The presence of this airway
obstruction causes edema and mucus secretion. When there is an increased sensitivity to irritating
stimuli, bronchoconstriction occurs leading to hyperplasia of smooth muscle, hyper secretion and dis
modeling of the epithelium.

The lung is located in the chest as part of the respiratory system. The respiratory systems consists of
the trachea, bronchi, lung, mediastinum, pleura and diaphragm. The left lung has two lobes, upper and
lower with a cardiac notch(where the heart is sits). The right lung on the other hand has three lopes,
upper, middle and lower lobes. The lungs is covered by the chest wall which is made up of muscles
and ribs. The mediastinum is the separation between the lungs and the other organs. The diaphragm is
the located below the lungs. This is a very thin muscle that provides a division for the chest cavity
from the abdomen. The

The Debate Over the Morality of the Death Penalty Essay
Senator for Utah Orrin Hatch once said, Capital punishment is our society s recognition of the sanctity
of human life, (Brainy Quote). While the arguments for both sides of the debate over the morality of
the death penalty are vast, the bottom line is that the death penalty does not disregard human life, but
rather it reveres it, as Hatch said. Morality is defined as, The quality of being in accord with standards
of right or good conduct, (The Free Dictionary). One who seeks to protect a person who has
committed a heinous crime such as murder is arguably not in accords with what is right and wrong.
Therefore, although killing is generally accepted as being wrong, the death penalty is sometimes the
only solution to bring justice to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though electrocution, hanging, and being shot at by a firing squad would seem to have instant results,
it is possible for the person to suffer immensely if they are initially done wrong, for example, if the
shocks are not strong enough the first time, if the noose is not placed correctly, or if the heart is not
struck in the first round of shooting. As a result, the person may have to endure multiple jolts of shock,
suffocate gradually, or slowly bleed to death (DPIC). As for the gas chamber, unconsciousness does
not occur immediately and, According to former San Quentin, California, Penitentiary warden, Clifton
Duffy, At first there is evidence of extreme horror, pain, and strangling, (DPIC). Another argument is
that taking another life will not avenge the victim s family, as it will not bring their loved one back,
and Gandhi s famous saying, An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind, applies as well. Finally,
anti death penalty advocates may say that it is wrong to kill a mentally ill person, as it is widely
believed that anyone who would commit a crime worthy of the death penalty must have some kind of
disorder, because they are not fully in control of what they are doing and they are suffering too. At the
end of the day, adversaries of capital punishment believe that all life is sacred, including that of severe
criminals, and it should be preserved regardless of the circumstance.

To what extent does success in china depend on businesses...
Success for a business in a large market such as china can be a very difficult thing to achieve; there are
many factors that can affect the success or failure of a business that decides to merge into China s
markets. Most people would assume that due to the very large population of china (roughly 1.35
billion/1,363,496,913) operating a business there would not be a problem, this however is incorrect,
just because there is lots of people there doesn t for a minute make it any easier to set u p and run a
successful business.
The main point I would say that is essential to success in china is adaptation. If a business is able to
adapt well to its surroundings, i.e. the ability to easily change its products and services to match the

Making their chain stores very traditional and fitting with the local culture. Surprisingly Starbucks
charges as much as 50% more for some of its products in China than in the U.S., the U.K. and India,
but yet it is still a huge success, this is because the business catered well for the needs and adapted.
Carrying a Starbucks cup is seen as a status symbol, a way to demonstrate sophistication and the
capability to afford a personal luxury for the up and coming middle class in China. This links into the
brand recognition that Starbucks has created for itself and shows how they carefully targeted their
products at the new middle class, it is estimated that it s more than 300 million, already larger than the
entire population of the United States. This middle class is about 25% of the total Chinese population
and as Starbucks has such a recognisable brand people are more liable to visit the store.
However, that being said some large companies have tried to adapt for the Chinese markets, and failed
despite their efforts. One large well known company that can be an example of this is McDonalds.
Although the very popular and globally recognised company has succeeded almost everywhere else,
doesn t guaranty its success everywhere. By adapting their menus to what they thought was the local
cuisine, the managers of the franchise thought they were on to a winner, but as time went on it became
obvious that simply changing their menus wasn t

Comparison Of Gnosticism In The Truman Show And The Da...
In modern day society, there are several ways in which the belief of Gnosticism is gradually being
circulated throughout our culture. One popular way that Gnostic concepts are being easily dispersed is
through the film industry. In widespread movies such as The Matrix, The Truman Show and The Da
Vinci Code, the presence of underlying Gnostic themes is undeniable. While each of these movies do
not encompass Gnosticism as a whole, there are certain Gnostic themes that are strongly represented
within each of the movies. For example, in The Da Vinci Code there is a huge focus on the existence
of a divine feminine principle just as the Gnostics believe in their religion. This example shown here
is the Gnostic theme that will be focused on the most throughout this essay. By comparing the divine
feminine principle within Gnostic texts with the feminine principle in the film The Da Vinci Code, I
will demonstrate the ways that the feminine principle in The Da Vinci Code relates with the one from
Gnosticism. However, these divine females must first be described ... Show more content on

spiritual world is our real home. This process is what the Gnostics call enlightenment and this is the
only way to achieve true acquaintance with the spiritual realm. Sophia is the savior who bridges the

Religion In John Portier s The Dead Man Walking
Whether we agree with religious people or their critics or simply don t know, the near universal
appeal, the persistence and the transforming power of religions are intriguing, Portier once said.
People are always intrigued by religion. Even if people do not have a faith or religion, they are
intrigued about the power of religion and are searching for answers. Portier defined religion in terms
of life s greatest questions. People are always questioning the supernatural. The definition of religion
relates to the Dead Man walking in many ways. The one way I am going to relate this to is Joey.

Joey had was in the beginning he was not into questioning his religion at all and he did not want to be

Incivility On The Bounty Case Study
Homework Assignment 3: Leadership Film
Overview
The film Mutiny on the Bounty tells the story of a merchant ship lead by Captain William Bligh and
Lieutenant Fletcher Christian (Milestone Reed, 1962). The Bounty was on a mission to harvest
breadfruit trees from Tahiti and transport them to Jamaica to become a source of cheap food for slaves
in the British West Indies (Milestone Reed, 1962). After a long and grueling excursion, a mutiny
occurs that divides the crew members and leads to chaos. This paper will attempt to compare and
contrast the leadership styles of Bligh and Christian and how it impacted the actions of the crew
members.
Differences in Leadership Style One of the most noticeable differences between Bligh and Christian is
their communication style. Bligh ridiculed the crew by calling them degrading names in front of other
crew members. In addition, Bligh would degrade Lieutenant Christian in front of the crew to
undermine his authority. This type of communication style is known as incivility, or discourteous
communication and rude behavior towards employees (Nelson Quick, 2013). Incivility takes the form
of verbal attacks and even physical harm, which leads to adverse behavior in the workplace (Nelson
Quick, 2013). Bligh demonstrated incivility through physical harm as ... Show more content on

to humans.
People liked it because in it s native condition, it could easily be beaten into weapons or tools. Copper
has been one of the most useful metals for over
5000 years. Copper was probably used around 8000 B.C by people living along the
Tigris and Euphrates rivers. In 6000 B.C, Egyptians learned how to hammer copper into things they

Lamps are also attached to these helmets in case some of the lighting in the mine goes out leaving a
miner stranded in the dark. One of the biggest problems with mining is that in some places dangerous
gas s may exist, like Carbon Monoxide. In the past we had very cruel and inhuman ways to detect
harmful gases. One of these ways was the use of canaries. Miners would let them fly into a part of the
mine where a poison gas was suspected. If there was a harmful gas, the bird would fall over dead at
the first scent of the gas. Today, we have better ways to detect gases without having animals die. We
now have detection machines in all parts of mines. Mines also have top of the line fire alarms and
water systems. If a flammable gas ignites, like sulfur, the fire may not die for years, which results in
closing the mine. Another problem miners complain about are the rats. Mines will often have mine
cats that hunt out the rats. These cats are well fed and petted by most of the miners.
Most copper is found in seven ores. That means it s mixed in with other metals like lead, zinc, gold,

Sometimes miners may only find 2%. The things that make copper such a popular metal are
malleability which is how easily it bends. Copper is highly

When talking about the First Amendment, the law protects us from freedom of speech and free
exercise of religion and it also stops Congress from making any new law to prohibit free speech and

printer declined the printing job for T shirts promoting a gay pride festival on religious grounds, but he

on the information that was provided the printer had a history of rejecting other orders for shirts
promoting sexually explicit material/actions and violence.
There are a couple of argument that the owner could argue about one would be is that it is his own
business and he put his blood, sweat, and tears into the business. On top of that, it was his own money
that started the business without any government helps or assistance. No one should be forced to do
anything against what they believe in. For example, you are an Asian business owner of a printing
shop and a customer came in and requests to do a print job of a man holding chopstick and a bowl of
rice, hanging by the neck with a rope with X as eyes and a tongue sticking out of the mouth. Who
would in their right mind take that job?
The second argument would be is that the owner has a right to decline to print anything against their
belief, and a photographer gay or not has a right to decline to photograph anti gay or gay rally and a
Christian printer has a right to decline to print messages that violate their belief. The right of free
speech is to protect everyone, and it means that the government doesn t get to force anyone to say
things that contradict their deeply held belief. This is not a straight or gay issue but this is a human
issue.
The third argument would be that he did indeed offer the customer a different a route to go for the
print job. He also went out of his way and contact different local printer to take the job that he couldn t
do. He is just want to be a good Christian and doesn t want to break any rule. Just like a good citizen
of U.S., no one dares to break any laws intentionally.

But before those studies could be carried out, and before widespread use of maggot therapy was

Observations For centuries, the beneficial effects of maggot infested wounds were noted by military
surgeons who observed that injured soldiers abandoned on the battlefield fared better and that their
wounds healed faster when those wounds were infested with maggots.7 Himself having observed
maggot infested wounds during his service in World War I, the orthopedic surgeon, William Baer, was
the first to apply maggots systematically to nonhealing wounds while a professor at Johns Hopkins
and Children s Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Baer presented his preliminary results in 1929,8 and
his entire work in maggot therapy treating over 100 children with osteomyelitis and problematic soft
tissue wounds was published posthumously in 1931.9 Technological Advancements That Have
Optimized Maggot Therapy Within 5 years of Baer s groundbreaking work, over 1000 American,
Canadian, and European surgeons were using maggots in their practice.10 Many hospitals operated

Moreover, Native Indians have been assimilated into the white society in a way that they lose their

The General
Buster Keaton wrote, directed, and acted in the film The General (1926). The silent film is a chase
comedy enriched by realism. Siegfried Kracauer states that film represents reality as it evolves in time
with the aid of cinematic techniques and devices. Film literally photographs reality to record and
reveal physical reality. Physical reality being called material reality, physical existence, actuality, and
simply nature. The movement in the film The General emphasizes the motion of the chase. There is a
continuity of suspenseful physical action during many of the scenes where Buster Keaton s character
Johnny Gray is chasing his stolen engine then he himself is being chased once he gets his engine back.
This is continuous throughout the film with non stop motion. In a realistic tendency, film gives image
movement. It recreates stage reality through both actions and characters and even the surrounding

organizations, and ideas. Product can be divided by four different levels such as core product,
facilitating products, supporting products and augmented products. As example I chose Apple

Revolutions Of The French Revolution
Revolutions are often characterized under two dominant schools of thought, either the structural or the
cultural viewpoint. The structural approach favors causes that are of inherent forces in the system of
sovereign nations, whilst the cultural view favors individuals actions and ideas as rudimentary to
revolution. Skocpol and Trimberger s essay Revolutions: A Structural Analysis modernizes the ideas
of Karl Marx and reconciles them with the modern revolutions that have occurred to form a new
viewpoint; the structural school of thought. Consequentially, the French Revolution s long list of
factors and participant s carry differing levels of weight in either school of thought, yet the structural
approach is more pronounced in the summation of them all. As an extension of internal strife, the
Haitian Revolution also plays an important role in highlighting this structural overtone of the French
Revolution. The duality between the Haitian revolution s class of slaves and the Third Estate of the
French Revolution proper as well as the reactions they both had to international and internal strife are
best classified under the structural school of thought. This analysis begins with looking at the logical
first aspect of structural analysis; the status of the peasantry.
The aspect of structural theory that is most glaringly obvious in both that of the Third Estate and the
slave revolt of Saint Domingue is the status of the peasantry. As noted by Skocpol and Trimberger,

Vittorio De Sico And Italian Neorealism
The average outing to the local movie theater is a pleasant experience; a show of laughs and drama
and romance, wrapped into a satisfying plot to be quickly forgotten by the transient audience. The
experiences of the Second World War, especially in Italy, forced the artistic film industry to grow
jaded quickly. Italian Neorealism, a film movement at odds with the conventional cinematic
experience, finds it somewhat inappropriate to have idealized heroes achieve happily ever after lives
after so many did not in the grim reality of the war. Vittorio De Sica and Cesare Zavattini were
pioneers of the movement, which (although not the first) is best exemplified by Umberto D., released
in Italy in 1952, and after a slow commercial reception, released abroad and in the U.S. in 1955. It
features an old man and his dog as they struggle to survive in the tough reality of the Italian postwar
city. The film was hailed by critics as a shining example of the maturity and emotional power of
realism. In a world of fabricated Hollywood plots, critics all over the world in the 1950s relished the
uncompromising candor of the neorealist film Umberto D., while the commercial reception clearly
shows that the mass audience preferred the purified filters of non realist cinema. Cesare Zavattini, the
co writer of Umberto D. and many other films with De Sica, gave an interview in 1952 in which he
outlined the theory and essence of Italian Neorealism. He deplored the practice of inventing banal and
contrived plots, calling it superimposing dead formulas over living social facts (Zavattini). If a story is
death to Zavattini, reality is life. He sees real life as a rich mine of content with no sparkling additives
necessary; a simple everyday action can be dissected and investigated to reveal a greater truth about
the reality of the situation. Poverty is the main subject for neorealist films, and Zavattini justifies this
by saying he features poverty because it is the most important contemporary reality of the people.
Neorealist films do not use professional actors either; the title character in Umberto D. was played by
a university professor with no acting experience. This adds to the realism by having people who
actually face the

Using McDonalds which happens to be one of the largest food service companies in the world, the author of this paper will look into the concepts of various market entry strategies in comparison to business format franchising. This report will also look into various elements that will essentially be needed to be addressed. It will critically discuss the various aspects involved in franchising as a market entry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been seen as the most widely utilised mode of entry towards rapid international expansion and is primarily employed by fast food chains such as KFC, Wendy s, Kenny Rogers, A amp; W and McDonald s among others followed by consumer service businesses such as hotel chains and car rental, agencies such as Avis and Hertz. Franchises are basically ongoing business relationships which involves 2 components (the franchisor and the franchisee). The franchisor (the owners of the business format) issues a licence through an agreement which allows the franchisee the right or privilege to distribute the goods and services that represents the franchisor s brand and business system for an agreed sum (royalty or fee) (Doole amp; Lowe, 2008). In other words, franchising allows the rapid growth or market expansion using a proven business format (intellectual property of the franchisor) it also allows the assistance in the form of capital as well as the fervour of a group of network operators that enhance the market positioning of the franchisee which would not be possible for a new business without huge capitals (Dugan, 1998). The basics of franchising involve the following elements which are most commonly found in most franchise agreements. These factors are common, but not compulsory as it depends on the mutual understanding between the franchisor and the franchisee. Franchise Agreement Elements ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sight And Blindness In Oedipus The King Pushed to the last breaking point, Teiresias finally reveals the truth that the audience has been waiting for. However, instead of the anticipated cathartic climax to release the accumulated dramatic tension and irony from Oedipus s misguided pursuit of the truth, the play bombards the audience with still more tension and tragic irony in an emotional roller coaster as Oedipus and Iocaste attempts to run away from their inevitable fate. Oedipus refuses to believe the truth Teiresias reveals. Wrongly equating physical sight with mental insight, wit, and sense, he taunts Teiresias for his physical blindness, calling him a sightless, witless, senseless, mad old man! (20) Reciprocating Oedipus insult for insult, Teiresias mocks Oedipus for blinding himself to the truth, to the wretchedness of [his] life, and to the blind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although clear vision often represents intelligence and insight in Greek beliefs, Oedipus s perfect eyesight does not help him see the truth. Ironically, it is the blind Teiresias who knows the most and sees the farthest. Nevertheless, Oedipus is soon forced to confront the truth again, ironically because Iocaste tries to steer him away from the truth, when the details she reveal about how King Laios is killed matches in many details his own confrontation with King Laios. However, just as it seems Oedipus and Iocaste have returned to the path to the truth and the ultimate climax, they diverge off the path again as they latch themselves onto King Polybus s death as surefire evidence that Oedipus is not the murderer. Oedipus is so happy and relieved to be able to convincingly blind himself to the truth again that he displays no grief for the father he loved, declaring that Polybos has packed the oracles off with him underground (50) with shocking triumph and carelessness for the ... • 4. The Social Gospel Moverment The Social Gospel The Social Gospel is the idea of social problems being looked and fixed with a Christian point of view. The Gospel will always stay the same and we should refer the Social Gospel as living out the Gospel. The goal of the Social Gospel Movement was to tie salvation and good work together. They thought people should live the life of a Jesus Christ. Classes, counseling, job training and libraries were provided by churches to act according to the Social Gospel. The origins and issues of the Social Gospel Movement, how the Social Gospel related to a Progressive Era, the work of Walter Rauschenbusch, and how Social Gospel relates to the Gospel will be covered in this essay. The Social Gospel started in the early twentieth century as an intellectual movement. The purpose was to live out The Lord s Prayer during our day to day lives. Social Gospel applied Christian ethics to social problems like the issues of social justice. A group of liberal Protestant progressives started the movement because they weren t satisfied with social problems around them and they did not feel enough was being done to solve the problems. Social problems associated with rapid industrialization, urbanization, and increasing immigration of the Gilded Age were the primary concern. • 5. Supply Chain And Its Effect On Farmers Supermarket expansion not only affects farmers in the supply chain, but also the rest of the food retail sector. Traditional retailers face extra competition and potential loss of market share, but may benefit from foreign supermarkets through spillover effects of the latest retail techniques. Large supermarket chains are also likely to affect the average retail prices in the markets they operate. These issues are studied by Basker (2005, 2007) There is a growing empirical literature indicating that supermarkets impose a positive productivity effect on farmers in their supply chain. Based on field interviews with supermarkets and a farm survey among tomato growers in Guatemala, Hernandez et al. (2007) find that farmers who are supplying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The results suggest that the supermarket expansion will continue, but not at an explosive rate. There is no consensus in the empirical literature on whether the agricultural sector benefits from the presence of supermarkets. Empirical analyses find that supermarkets represent both opportunities and challenges for local farmers. Their contribution is the construction and calibration of a Ramsey growth model to identify the consequences of supermarket expansion for agricultural productivity and structural change. The methodological approach clarifies the underlying adjustment mechanisms involved, and allows for endogenous interaction between agricultural productivity and supermarkets dependence on local suppliers. Numerical simulations show how the two way relationship between supermarkets and local farmers acts to reinforce dynamic processes, either decreasing the chances of escaping a low productivity trap or strengthening technological catch up. This kind of model simulation supplements econometric analyses that struggle with causality issues and are unclear about the channel of effects (Stokke, 2009). Our incorporation of the productivity linkage between supermarkets and local farmers offers a possible interpretation of the conflicting results in the empirical literature: depending on the extent of local constraints related to ... The Charge of the Light Brigade The poem The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson is about a battle in which a commander commits a faux pas and orders his men to move forward with an defensive strategy that would result with their imminent death. As the poem goes on it tells us that we should honor these men because although they knew their leader had made a life altering decision, they carried through with it due to the fact that he was their leader. Tennyson uses personification, metaphor, imagery, symbolism, and anaphora in order to take the reader back in time and to help the reader understand the reason behind their tragic demise. There are three main themes in this poem and they are respect and reputation, duty, and warfare. In the poem Alfred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personification is used to when Tennyson says, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell. . He uses this in order to create an image of the Russian army swallowing the brigade. He also uses the metaphor Valley of Death to describe the battlefield, along with Jaws of Death and Mouth of Hell to construe the Russian Army. Alfred uses imagery especially in stanzas 3 to 5 when he is explaining the scene surrounding the men. He uses strong verbs in order to assert that the battle wasn t easy and it reduced them in numbers. He also uses anaphora which means repeating the same beginning word line after line, he does this to enunciate the danger surrounding the men as they entered the enemy lines. To me this poem is tragically inspirational because the men didn t desert their leader even though they knew he was at fault and that his mistake would result in heavy consequences. These soldiers were the best of the best and they carried on fully knowing what was waiting for them in the valley of death . They died with the honour of knowing they did all they could and that they died as more than soldiers, they died as a family. The elements that create what it means to be emotionally intelligent are incorporated to the figurative language, satire. Many comedians are using satire to expose flaws and criticize the political system. Trevor Noah, a satirist, is a good example of how satire works in comedy and how the audience reacts to it. The use of satire is so effective when it is incorporated in comedy since it has the ability to challenge authority and have political influence. First of all, the only difference between satire and criticism is that satire is implied and not overtly stated. Satire is a form of being able to indicate human behavior disobedience and social resistance. It derives from the Latin word satura meaning the involvement of basic principles of stage show to the introduction of formal Latin comedy. Which is why satire is used mainly from comedians. It also communicated in literature, internet, comics and cartoons. Comedians expose most of work through the form of satire because it is a way to alert people by grabbing their attention to something that they can laugh about instead of getting serious about it. Clarkson Lumber Company Experienced Significant Sales Growth From 1993 through 1995, Clarkson Lumber Company experienced significant sales growth 19.0% from 1993 to 1994 and 30.0% between 1994 and 1995. Profitability also increased, but not nearly at the same pace as sales revenue. Net income rose from $60,000 in 1993 to $68,000 in 1994 (a 13.3% increase), to $77,000 in 1995 (13.2% increase). This increase in sales and profitability demanded growth in working capital and fixed assets to finance the growth, creating a need for cash that outpaced free cash flow into the firm. Furthermore, Mr. Clarkson s buyout payments to Mr. Holtz in 1995 and 1996 only added to the liquidity predicament. Thus, Clarkson was compelled to draw upon his line of credit with Suburban National Bank and begin relying heavily on trade credit, quickly maxing out his bank credit line by the end of 1995. The financial strength of Clarkson Lumber has deteriorated between 1993 and 1995. Clarkson had a free cash flow to the firm of +$2,000 in 1994, but that dropped to $159,000 for 1995. EBITDA increased over the period, but not matching the pace of net debt increases; Clarkson s leverage (Net Debt / EBITDA) was 1.21 in 1993, increasing to 2.31 and 2.95 in 1994 and 1995, respectively. First quarter 1996 statements annualized over the entire year projected leverage to increase to 4.94 by the end of 1996, assuming no credit line cap and no other changes. A man named George A Romero really helped bring the idea of the dead coming back to life into pop culture. But what really makes a zombie, a zombie? There are a lot of monsters that can be described the same way as zombies but this definition is what classifies them and puts them in the category as zombies. A zombie is an undead being created through the reanimation of a human corpse. The term comes from Haitian folklore, where a zombie is a dead body reanimated through various methods, and the most commonly known way is through black magic or voodoo (Wikipedia 1). To understand how powerful Vodou, or as we commonly see it, Voodoo is, we must first learn where it originated from and how it is used and incorporated into the everyday lives of the people who use it. Voodoo practice and culture did not come from Haiti, despite popular belief. It originated from Africa and was brought to Haiti when slaves were migrated down there. When some hear the word voodoo, the first thing they think about is an evil force that people use to destroy others lives. This has not always been the case. Voodoo was seen as some sort of religion where people were constantly communicating with the dead asking for protection, guidance, etc. In turn, the people would have to ... Cognitive dissonance theory is when there is inconsistency within the person, they tend to do things to eliminate dissonance and gain consistency with themselves. This is shown in the movie Crash when Farhad tries to kill Daniels daughter Laura because Farhad thinks that Daniel robbed is store. Farhad being in cognitive dissonance goes to Daniels house and tries to shoot him. But, Laura walks in front of him trying to save him. Farhad feels the only way to come back to consistency is to take revenge on Daniel. Religion In John Portier s The Dead Man Walking Whether we agree with religious people or their critics or simply don t know, the near universal appeal, the persistence and the transforming power of religions are intriguing, Portier once said. People are always intrigued by religion. Even if people do not have a faith or religion, they are intrigued about the power of religion and are searching for answers. Portier defined religion in terms of life s greatest questions. People are always questioning the supernatural. The definition of religion relates to the Dead Man walking in many ways. • 27. Incivility On The Bounty Case Study Homework Assignment 3: Leadership Film Overview The film Mutiny on the Bounty tells the story of a merchant ship lead by Captain William Bligh and Lieutenant Fletcher Christian (Milestone Reed, 1962). The Bounty was on a mission to harvest breadfruit trees from Tahiti and transport them to Jamaica to become a source of cheap food for slaves in the British West Indies (Milestone Reed, 1962). After a long and grueling excursion, a mutiny occurs that divides the crew members and leads to chaos. This paper will attempt to compare and contrast the leadership styles of Bligh and Christian and how it impacted the actions of the crew members. Differences in Leadership Style One of the most noticeable differences between Bligh and Christian is their communication style. Bligh ridiculed the crew by calling them degrading names in front of other crew members. In addition, Bligh would degrade Lieutenant Christian in front of the crew to undermine his authority. This type of communication style is known as incivility, or discourteous communication and rude behavior towards employees (Nelson Quick, 2013). Incivility takes the form of verbal attacks and even physical harm, which leads to adverse behavior in the workplace (Nelson Quick, 2013). Bligh demonstrated incivility through physical harm as ... Copper was one of the first metals known to humans. People liked it because in it s native condition, it could easily be beaten into weapons or tools. Copper has been one of the most useful metals for over 5000 years. Copper was probably used around 8000 B.C by people living along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. One of the biggest problems with mining is that in some places dangerous gas s may exist, like Carbon Monoxide. In the past we had very cruel and inhuman ways to detect harmful gases. One of these ways was the use of canaries. Miners would let them fly into a part of the mine where a poison gas was suspected. If there was a harmful gas, the bird would fall over dead at the first scent of the gas. Today, we have better ways to detect gases without having animals die. We now have detection machines in all parts of mines. Mines also have top of the line fire alarms and water systems. If a flammable gas ignites, like sulfur, the fire may not die for years, which results in closing the mine. Another problem miners complain about are the rats. Mines will often have mine cats that hunt out the rats. These cats are well fed and petted by most of the miners. Most copper is found in seven ores. That means it s mixed in with other metals like lead, zinc, gold, cobalt, bismuth, platinum, and nickel. These ores will usually have only about 4% pure copper in them though. Sometimes miners may only find 2%. The things that make copper such a popular metal are malleability which is how easily it bends. Copper is highly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pros And Cons Of The First Amendment First Amendment When talking about the First Amendment, the law protects us from freedom of speech and free exercise of religion and it also stops Congress from making any new law to prohibit free speech and free exercise. The case involving a Christian printer who refused to print gay pride T shirts. The printer declined the printing job for T shirts promoting a gay pride festival on religious grounds, but he did offer the customer to help them find other local printers to do the work for the same price. Based on the information that was provided the printer had a history of rejecting other orders for shirts promoting sexually explicit material/actions and violence. There are a couple of argument that the owner could argue about one would be is that it is his own business and he put his blood, sweat, and tears into the business. On top of that, it was his own money that started the business without any government helps or assistance. No one should be forced to do anything against what they believe in. For example, you are an Asian business owner of a printing shop and a customer came in and requests to do a print job of a man holding chopstick and a bowl of rice, hanging by the neck with a rope with X as eyes and a tongue sticking out of the mouth. Who would in their right mind take that job? The second argument would be is that the owner has a right to decline to print anything against their belief, and a photographer gay or not has a right to decline to photograph anti gay or gay rally and a Christian printer has a right to decline to print messages that violate their belief. The right of free speech is to protect everyone, and it means that the government doesn t get to force anyone to say things that contradict their deeply held belief. This is not a straight or gay issue but this is a human issue. The third argument would be that he did indeed offer the customer a different a route to go for the print job. He also went out of his way and contact different local printer to take the job that he couldn t do. He is just want to be a good Christian and doesn t want to break any rule. Abstract In the 21st century, eighty years after William Baer presented his groundbreaking work treating bone and soft tissue infections with live maggots, thousands of therapists around the globe have rediscovered the benefits of maggot therapy. There is a continuity of suspenseful physical action during many of the scenes where Buster Keaton s character Johnny Gray is chasing his stolen engine then he himself is being chased once he gets his engine back. The structural approach favors causes that are of inherent forces in the system of sovereign nations, whilst the cultural view favors individuals actions and ideas as rudimentary to revolution. Skocpol and Trimberger s essay Revolutions: A Structural Analysis modernizes the ideas of Karl Marx and reconciles them with the modern revolutions that have occurred to form a new viewpoint; the structural school of thought. Consequentially, the French Revolution s long list of factors and participant s carry differing levels of weight in either school of thought, yet the structural approach is more pronounced in the summation of them all. • 41. Vittorio De Sico And Italian Neorealism The average outing to the local movie theater is a pleasant experience; a show of laughs and drama and romance, wrapped into a satisfying plot to be quickly forgotten by the transient audience. The experiences of the Second World War, especially in Italy, forced the artistic film industry to grow jaded quickly. Italian Neorealism, a film movement at odds with the conventional cinematic experience, finds it somewhat inappropriate to have idealized heroes achieve happily ever after lives after so many did not in the grim reality of the war. Vittorio De Sica and Cesare Zavattini were pioneers of the movement, which (although not the first) is best exemplified by Umberto D., released in Italy in 1952, and after a slow commercial reception, released abroad and in the U.S. in 1955. It features an old man and his dog as they struggle to survive in the tough reality of the Italian postwar city. The film was hailed by critics as a shining example of the maturity and emotional power of realism. In a world of fabricated Hollywood plots, critics all over the world in the 1950s relished the uncompromising candor of the neorealist film Umberto D., while the commercial reception clearly shows that the mass audience preferred the purified filters of non realist cinema. Cesare Zavattini, the co writer of Umberto D. and many other films with De Sica, gave an interview in 1952 in which he outlined the theory and essence of Italian Neorealism. He deplored the practice of inventing banal and contrived plots, calling it superimposing dead formulas over living social facts (Zavattini). If a story is death to Zavattini, reality is life. He sees real life as a rich mine of content with no sparkling additives necessary; a simple everyday action can be dissected and investigated to reveal a greater truth about the reality of the situation. Poverty is the main subject for neorealist films, and Zavattini justifies this by saying he features poverty because it is the most important contemporary reality of the people. Neorealist films do not use professional actors either; the title character in Umberto D. was played by a university professor with no acting experience.
