Creative Writing Controlled Assessment, April 2012: Mr Waugh’s Year 10 Class




Creative Writing
A national project – C21st UK - wishes to collect from young
people writing which reflects life in the UK in the C21st. Your
writing should focus on aspects of young people’s lives which
   you feel are important. You can choose the form of the
             writing e.g. journalism or narrative.


   Your answer should be around 600 words in length.
   The achievement objectives for this assessment state that it should:
   Ø Write to communicate clearly, effectively and imaginatively, using and
      adapting forms and selecting vocabulary appropriate to task and purpose
      in ways that engage the reader.
   Ø Organise information and ideas into structured and sequenced sentences,
      paragraphs and whole texts, using a variety of linguistic and structural
      features to support cohesion and overall coherence.
   Ø Use a range of sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with
      accurate punctuation and spelling.


   Using your own experience as inspiration:
   Ø You may wish to express your ideas about something you feel strongly
      about - or you may prefer to explain an aspect of society that you have an
      interest in or knowledge about.
   Ø Express your opinion using a range of persuasive devices
   Ø Match your writing style to its purpose - if something is to be provocative,
      use devices that provoke, if it’s humourous, use effects that add humour.

   You have two periods to complete this controlled assessment, run in two
   sessions with an overnight break between these. The first session should be
   used for planning and drafting your response, and the second for editing and
   producing a final copy - remember, in this assessment spelling, punctuation
   and grammar are assessed.

21st century opinion controlled assessment task

Creative Writing Controlled Assessment, April 2012: Mr Waugh’s Year 10 Class Creative Writing A national project – C21st UK - wishes to collect from young people writing which reflects life in the UK in the C21st. Your writing should focus on aspects of young people’s lives which you feel are important. You can choose the form of the writing e.g. journalism or narrative. Your answer should be around 600 words in length. The achievement objectives for this assessment state that it should: Ø Write to communicate clearly, effectively and imaginatively, using and adapting forms and selecting vocabulary appropriate to task and purpose in ways that engage the reader. Ø Organise information and ideas into structured and sequenced sentences, paragraphs and whole texts, using a variety of linguistic and structural features to support cohesion and overall coherence. Ø Use a range of sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate punctuation and spelling. Using your own experience as inspiration: Ø You may wish to express your ideas about something you feel strongly about - or you may prefer to explain an aspect of society that you have an interest in or knowledge about. Ø Express your opinion using a range of persuasive devices Ø Match your writing style to its purpose - if something is to be provocative, use devices that provoke, if it’s humourous, use effects that add humour. You have two periods to complete this controlled assessment, run in two sessions with an overnight break between these. The first session should be used for planning and drafting your response, and the second for editing and producing a final copy - remember, in this assessment spelling, punctuation and grammar are assessed.
