Out of the four skills in language learning, ‘WRITING’ is a
very important skill , as it serves as the medium through
which we communicate our ideas , thoughts or feelings
to other people who are at a distance from us.
The children should be taught how to use the language in
speech and then in writing.
In words of Bacon , ‘’READING MAKES A FULL MAN AND
WRITINGAN EXACT MAN.

5. TYPES OF WRITING

6. Expository Writing
It’s main purpose is to explain. It is a subject
oriented writing style, in which authors focus
on telling you about a given topic or subject
without bothering their personal opinion. This
is one the most common types of writing.

7. Descriptive writing
• It’s main purpose is to descriptive. It is a style
of writing that focuses on describing a
character, an event, or a place in great detail.
It can be poetic when the author takes the
time to be very specific in his or her
description.

8. Persuasive Writing
• It’s main purpose is to convince. Unlike
expository writing , persuasive writing
contains the opinions and biases of the
author. To convince others to agree with the
author’s point of view, persuasive writing
contains justification and reasons.

9. Narrative Writing
• It’s main purpose is to tell a story. The author
will create a different characters and tell you
what happens to them

10. IMPORTANCE OF GOOD
HANDWRITING
Good handwriting is generally as considered as a
mirror of good culture.
It promotes better readability and comprehension .
It is naturally in direct proportion to other language
abilities.
In written examinations , good handwriting really
impresses the examiner , thereby the examinee will
be getting credit.
To have acquired a good handwriting is a privilege.

12. DEVELOPING HANDWRITING
1. Regular writing exercise should be given in lower
classes copy writing / transcription.
2. Italic writing should be practiced.
3. In a week period should be earmarked for teaching
and practicing good handwriting.
4. Frequent competitions in handwriting will provide
encouragement.

13. COMPOSITION
oComposition is the any written exercise.
In this sense from a supplying a missing
word to writing an essay.
oWriting is a mode of expression such as
speech. Man has the urge to express.
oComposition exercise means writing a
paragraph, essay, story etc descriptive or
narrative in nature.

16. Types of compositions
1.Oral Composition
As a rule , it should precede
written composition. By oral
composition , the student is capable of
organizing it in his thoughts.

written composition is a complex activity
that includes the mechanics of writing ,
including handwriting , spelling and the basics of
language knowledge (word morphology , syntax,
and vocabulary )

18. 3. Free Composition
In free composition the students are not
externally controlled very much regarding
vocabulary , structure ,etc. They are free to
write creatively according to their interest ,
imagination , originality ,and style , guidance of
the teacher reduced.

19. 4. Essay Writing
Essay writing is the most common
form the student will have to come across in his
future studies or career .

20. 5.Précis Writing
Précis writing is a still higher skill. The
writer has to have thorough understanding and
insight into the right message of the passage
given for précis writing .
