This document analyzes approximating an ideal transmission line with lumped LC cell models of different granularities. Three cases are modeled and simulated: 1) a cascade of 10 LC cells, 2) a cascade of 100 LC cells, and 3) an ideal transmission line. The results show increased distortion of the signal with coarser LC cell approximations. Finer LC cell models are needed at higher data rates to limit distortion and eye closure. Directly modeling the ideal transmission line with DWS provides the most accurate results without approximation errors.
