Attempts to create services that connect and network educators together across institutions run up against established beliefs that the needs of educators can be met within the institution and do not require collaboration. Collaboration is often viewed as a loss of autonomy and as sharing institutional or faculty proprietary knowledge with a competitor. Broward College is a state college located in South Florida that offers associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees. It initially developed its e-learning program to provide faculty development opportunities but has since expanded it strategically. Data shows e-learning now accounts for 10% of the college's student enrollment and continues to grow. Why e-learning has failed - and why it will succeed

30,000 iPads: A Licence to Thrill - 7th Wave Conference
The University of Western Sydney embarked on a strategy to blend all its programs in 2012. Within that it decided to provide all students and all staff with iPads. The magnitude and the speed of the iPad deployment provided huge challenges to all sections of the university, especially IT and learning and teaching. It also challenged the prevailing orthodoxy of on campus lectures and classes and central controlled application usage. Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game

In 2016 the Centre for English Teaching (CET) launched Blackboard for its university pathway courses (DEC) as part of an initiative to innovate and transform them into high quality blended Academic English language programs that would support students in developing both academic skills and awareness of the technology and systems required to excel during the first semester at university. While LMS use is standard practice in higher education, for the English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) sector the integration of an online platform is still new territory and there is great potential for innovation within teaching and learning practices. Moreover, the unique context allows for a fresh perspective on how Blackboard, at its core, is a dynamic and flexible platform in teaching and learning practices that fosters communities of practice and consolidates traditional educational practices.
The implementation of Blackboard across university pathways courses at CET faced two major hurdles. To begin with, international students were less familiar with the culture and expectations surrounding LMS use at tertiary level and the nature of independent learning. Secondly, teaching staff had varying degrees of proficiency and experience in using technology in the classroom. Dealing with the challenge of educating, immersing and empowering both teachers and students simultaneously in their use of Blackboard as an integrated and powerful tool in teaching and learning raised numerous questions and helped gain valuable insights into adoption and adaption of technology and the opportunity for creative disruption. Grounding innovations in solid pedagogy, integrating technology and independent learning with in-class interaction and making learning objectives clear to both students and teachers enabled the successful uptake of Blackboard and allowed for greater support and autonomy for both teachers and students.
Shaping the digital future of FE and skills - digital pedagogy
The webinar discussed challenges and opportunities for digital pedagogy and technology-enabled teaching and learning. Key challenges for the upcoming term include the digital divide disadvantaging learners without devices/connectivity, engagement of online learners, and delivering high quality instruction. Responding to these challenges requires consolidating tools/channels, maintaining learner engagement, and staff CPD. Moving forward, focus areas include accessibility of online content, mixed synchronous/asynchronous methods, single sign-on systems, and access to quality interactive content. Professional development is needed to support staff digital capabilities while identifying and assisting digitally excluded learners.
LMS Transitions

Rather than investing in ‘the latest innovation’, a student engagement platform that continuously updates with the latest technology (such as voice activation digital assistants or AI) means you don’t have to back a single tool that could become outdated within a couple of years.
This interactive workshop discusses the links between students’ digital expectations vs reality and what universities and colleges are doing about it. There will be contributions from student experience directors, sharing their experience of creating the conditions necessary to enrich the digital lives of students through open, integrated and future-proof technologies.

With audio and video files, comments can be added to specific points in the media item's timeline.
Different comment types allow you to control who sees your comments. This includes the whole course, just you or a person you send feedback to and you.
Digital Portfolios Overview

Approximately one-third of stroke patients experience aphasia, or difficulty communicating. Left-sided strokes can cause aphasia, agraphia (difficulty writing), and alexia (difficulty reading). Right-sided strokes can impair sense of humor. Stroke patients may become angry, withdrawn, or refuse to communicate due to frustration. Nurses must find ways to communicate effectively and involve family. Assessment by a speech language pathologist evaluates speech, language comprehension, and written communication abilities. Nurses should create a quiet environment, use simple language and visual aids, be patient, and involve alternative communication methods to help stroke patients overcome challenges in communicating.

Digital Portfolios Overview

Online Learning to Support Educators
Online professional development (PD) for educators provides flexibility, access to experts, opportunities for reflection, and potential cost savings. Effective online PD is interactive, personalized, and data-driven. It requires careful attention to design, facilitation, and building learning communities. Research shows online PD can improve teacher practice and student learning when developed using collaborative models and incorporating feedback over time. Choosing the right technologies and providing training are also important for success.
Phases of E-Learning Implementation
1. California is phasing in K-12 distance learning programs to meet student needs, standardize quality, and save costs. It started with high school courses and plans to expand to other grades.
2. Phase I involves piloting course management systems and vendor content. Courses are supplemental and often blended with online and in-person instruction. Popular vendors include Odysseyware, Pearson, and Aventa.
3. Future phases include training teachers to modify vendor content and develop their own lessons using open resources, moving to a blended model with less reliance on vendors.
