How Does The Coffee Trade Affect The Economy
Coffee is certainly not a drink. It is a global commodity. The coffee industry hires many people around
the world for its growing, processing, and trading. The coffee trade is vital in economies in less
developed countries and in more developed countries. Every single way the coffee trade works in is
vital to economies; from farmers, to consumers. Therefore many people attempt to make the coffee
trade fairer to its people. From these people, many of their attempts do not suffice. The global coffee
trade affects everyone in it and even outside of it. The coffee trade created jobs for people to farm
coffee. These coffee farmers now have jobs that add on to the economy. This helps people especially
in less developed countries and their economies. These farmers are not being paid a lot, specifically if
they are in a less developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These roasters then roast the coffee beans and then bring them to the consumers. They are being paid
much more than what farmers are being paid. Farmers are the reason why the rest of the trade makes
so much money. They are being so underpaid that people have to make organizations to make sure that
farmers are paid better than they were. This is to make sure that farmers have money in their
economies and are able to school their children. Organizations such as FairTrade make sure that
farmers get paid more money than they used to. This is so they could afford drinking water, education,
food, and such. This is so they can afford to just live better. Although this seems like the perfect plan,
it does also fail sometimes. Organizations such as FairTrade cannot get everyone to buy into it.
Starbucks only uses FairTrade espresso beans for their espresso coffee. FairTrade coffee is more
expensive since more money is put into the farmer s hands. However, there have been claims that the
farmers are not actually being paid as

The Tata Nano Case
To: Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman TATA Group of companies, India
From:
Date: Fall 2008 The issue that TATA Motors Inc. is facing right now is to predict the viability of the
Project Nano. Also, TATA Motors Inc. wants to know what other steps it can adopt to improve the
chances of success for its newest venture The Nano.
Overview
TATA Motors Inc., part of one of the most respected Business Houses in India TATA Sons INC., is
currently in a phase of producing the world s cheapest car TATA NANO. The company has made
efforts in manufacturing a cheap car priced at around USD 2200 (INR 100000 Approximately) while
still not forgoing the quality and environmental efficiency of the ... Show more content on

* It can increase the price on NANO in the developed economies and use part of these higher profits
towards sustainability, thus, improving its brand presence and also achieving its intent towards society.
* TATA can extend the credit period of its suppliers by using its highly respected brand name and thus,
reduce costs and so, improve its margins. * TATA should make sure that it has a strong distribution
and order placement system which makes it easier for its customers to place and receive orders. *
TATA should predict the demand for the NANO which is to be very high and be prepared for mass
production and utilize its highly sophisticated manufacturing process to the fullest. * TATA Motors has
a distinct advantage in entering the tourist car/Taxi car segment in India as the old tourist vehicle/Taxi
Car: the Fiat 1100D is no longer in production and the other alternatives are priced at a very high rate
as compared to the NANO. * TATA has an advantage in entering the auto rickshaw/Tuk Tuk segment
in developing economies like India, Thailand, Cuba, China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Pakistan as the
cost of these vehicles is around the cost of TATA NANO but these vehicles are only 3 wheelers and
thus, occupy lesser people per vehicle.
Conclusion
TATA NANO is a project that will surely be viable in the longer run. Further, it will be a project that
will embark India as the biggest producer of small cars in the world.

Portrayal Of Women In Persepolis
Women in our society have been treated as a sideline, not included, and muted across our generations.
In the graphic novel Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi shows religion and authority to portray that women in
the text are marginalized, excluded, and silenced. This graphic novel takes place in Iran during the
Islamic Revolution, which influenced a lot of how women were treated. The women in Persepolis are
marginalized, excluded, and silenced by restricted communication, forbidden to wear what they want,
and not always having control of their actions. Persepolis demonstrates women being marginalized,
excluded, and silenced through restricted communication. In the chapter The Key , the girls are being
marginalized and silenced by Marji explaining a mandatory self flagellation ritual they perform twice
a day as mourning the dead of the war, Marji says, ...And we had to beat our chests in a voice over, as
a way of telling us she had no choice in the ritual or to speak during it(95). The image for the self
flagellation additionally portrays this thought by everyone executing the same beating, dressed the
same, and their emanata expresses a straight face looking forward in silence. Satrapi also goes on
saying and showing for initiation for the beginning of school, all the girls are illustrated as confused
with question marks above them as indication, as the icon/teacher says, Let s go children on the
heart(96) Satrapi only speaks in voiceovers as a way of indicating she, and no

The Separation Of Foam Separation
Foam separation techniques are neither much widely used nor much research have been done in this
area lately. But due to the high selectivity, thermal stability and the ability to separate components
from very dilute solutions (as low as 10 10 mole/liter), it is worth being applied as modern separation
and purification techniques. Particulates that are to be separated from solution are associated with
surfactants and are adsorbed at the liquid air interface. Interaction energy between the nonpolar
hydrocarbon chains of the surfactant and the polar water molecules is less than the interaction energy
between water molecules themselves leading to organic molecules in bulk water to be energetically
less favorable than their presence out of the bulk water at the interface. Foam fractionation, ionic
flotation, molecular flotation, microflotation, froth flotation these diverse types of foam separation
techniques allow the separation and purification of a wide variety of components starting from
detergents to heavy metal ions and proteins.
Gibbs adsorption isotherm, Young Laplace equation, Langmuir isotherm control the separation
parameters. The easy apparatus setting and simplistic separation process leads to its utilization in
analytical purposes and economically feasible industrial set up. Various variables like ionic strength,
length of chain, concentration of surfactants, Solution hydrogen concentration, flocculants,
concentration of complexing ions, flow rate of gas,

Kurt Cobain
Was Kurt Cobain bipolar? Thousands of people still research information about his death and what
could have caused it. Kurt Cobain became a rock legend when his band Nirvana formed in 1990s. He

In his teen years, he experimented with marijuana and heroin and started pushing himself away from

living with friends when he could and sleeping in apartment building hallways and a hospital waiting

became addicted to it. Cobain eventually went to drug rehab but his sobriety didn t last long. He

his drug addiction nor his bipolar disorder. Avoiding treatment is the worst thing you can do with
bipolar disorder because it tends to get worse if it s not treated. To improve your prognosis Kurt

depressed to the point where he did not want to live anymore. With that being said the author believes
that is probably why he did not seek any treatment for his disorder. The way Cobain handled his

Essay on The Trial of Socrates
Socrates was accused of being a sophist because he was engaging in inquiries into things beneath the
earth and in the heavens, of making the weaker argument appear the stronger, and teaching others
these same things. (Apology, Plato, Philosophic Classics page 21) Socrates is also accused of denying
the existence of the gods, and corrupting the youth. Socrates goes about trying to prove his innocence.
The jury that Socrates was tried by was made up of 501 Athenian citizens of all classes of society.
While he fails to convince the Athenian jury of his innocence, he does a wonderful job in this effort. I
personally believe that Socrates is innocent, and that the Athenian jury made the wrong decision.
Socrates was accused of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates tells a story in an attempt to explain this. It starts with a man named Chaerephon, a well
respected citizen of Athens, who had died recently. Chaerephon goes to the Oracle at Delphi and he
asked if there was anyone wiser than Socrates. (Apology, Plato, Philosophic Classics, page 23) The
Oracle, of course, says that there is no man wiser than Socrates. When Socrates heard of what the
Oracle said, he begins to wonder what riddle is hidden in those words. He knows that he is not a wise
man, so he knows that he cannot be the wisest of men. Not knowing what then Oracle truly meant, he
goes out to investigate this. He went to a man who was reputed to be very wise. He thought that he
would find a man who is wiser than himself, and thus point out to the Oracle its mistake. Socrates
finds that this man actually knows nothing that is worth knowing. When Socrates tries to point this out
to the man, he and the bystanders become angry. Socrates says that he is wiser than this man because,
while they both know nothing, Socrates realizes this. The other man thinks he knows things that he
does not, while Socrates knows that he knows nothing. Socrates claims that he has done this with
many men, and that each time, he came to the same result: the man knows nothing and thinks he
knows everything, and Socrates has made the man angry. In continuing to do this, Socrates made
many men angry, and that anger turned into

Slavery In The 1800s

Slavery Essay
In the 1700 s and 1800 s, the planter elite class of the American South conspired with both federal and
state governments and other whites to institutionalize slavery in order to protect their economic and
social power and way of life. Their efforts were generally wide spread, simple, blatant and generally
very effective. At the federal level, southerners in the House of Representatives, who were often
controlled and funded by the planter elites, won approval of James Madison s resolution which
declared that Congress ha[s] no authority to interfere in the emancipation of slaves, or in the treatment
of them within any of the States. (Edwards, Henretta, Hinderaker, Self). This resolution ... Show more

This is something they were also very effective at doing. Laws like the Alabama Slave Code of 1852
not only required all whites to patrol plantations so slaves did not escape, they also prohibited slaves
from travelling without their masters, from carrying any kind of weapon, from owning property and
from gathering in groups larger than five (Primary Source Packet). Most any violation of the Code
resulted in branding, whipping or death. These regulations prevented slaves from ever gaining power,
defending themselves or trying to organize or rebel against slavery. They also helped the elites control
poor yeomen whites by giving them jobs, minor government positions and rewards for patrolling and
capturing escaped slaves. The Plantation Slave Roles also incentivized slaves to follow authority even
if it meant hiding their beliefs and emotions or even beating or whipping other slaves (Primary Source
Packet). The Roles effectively helped the planter elites institutionalize slavery with the help of slaves.
The planter elite class relied on slavery in order to protect their economic way of life. They used their
wealth and power to ensure that the northern states and federal government did not interfere with
slavery in the south. The elites similarly used their wealth and power to establish local and state laws
to prevent slaves from gaining power or rebelling, and they also incentivized poor whites to support
slavery by rewarding with money, jobs and minor government positions. All of these actions
effectively institutionalized slavery and preserved the wealth and power of the planter

Limiting Reactant Lab
INTRODUCTION When two substances undergo a chemical reaction, often times one of the reactants
will be completely used up before the other. This reactant is known as the limiting reactant. A limiting
reactant is the substance that controls or limits the amount of product which can be formed. For
example, think about it in terms of making grilled cheese. If one grilled cheese requires two slices of
bread and one slice of cheese, but there are four pieces of bread and one piece of cheese, only one
grilled cheese can be made because there is one slice of cheese. This would make the cheese a limiting
reactant and two other slices of bread will be unused and left in excess. This is known as an excess
reactant. In a chemical reaction the excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, achieving this task is very unlikely due to three major unavoidable sources of error.
The first one being the adherent property of the precipitate. The precipitate had a tendency to stick to
the sides of the beaker and even the bottom of the stirring rod. Even after attempting to wash it off,
most was able to be cleaned but a little bit of the precipitate was still stuck and would not come off.
This leads to having less than the actual yield. Another source of error was that the size of the filter
paper was awfully small. This made it so the chances of spilling the precipitate and not getting it in the
funnel was much greater than it should have been. Some of the product was lost during the transfer
from the beaker to the funnel due to this factor, in the end reducing the total yield recovered. Lastly
the substances used may not be 100% pure, this means that the mass of the reactants could have been
less than the actual measured amount. This means the mathematically calculated theoretical yield was
larger than it should have been. These impurities in the reactants do not yield the full desired products
so the yield will almost always end up being less than

Taking a Look at the Britannia Panopticon
The Britannia Panopticon is not the sort of heritage you walk about gazing at while thinking, Isn t that
pretty , admitted the music hall s preservation director Judith Bowers. She claims that a truly restored
Panopticon would have to reflect its thousand strong poor and even rough audience, paying tribute to
the folk who frequented the theatre over its long history.
The Panopticon was built in 1857 on the site of an old warehouse by the partnership of little known
architect Thomas Gildard and his brother in law H.M. McFarlane. The building, which was born as a
music hall and can be counted among the first to get electricity in Glasgow, became one of the earliest
establishments to be put into moving picture. It also housed freak shows, carnivals, waxworks and
even an indoor zoo attracting a diverse audience. It came to be called a people s theatre in the hands of
its most notable owner A.E. Pickard a notorious business man, millionaire and quite the eccentric
person. Unblemished or nearly intact purpose built theatres from an early age are extremely rare in
Britain. This is due to the fact that theatres that were failing financially were razed by the dozens in
order to sell the land. Even financially successful theatres were razed so that they could be rebuilt
bigger and better. Consequently, Britannia Music Hall, one of the few remaining examples of a
nineteenth century music hall, is worth restoration and preservation. Other historic theatre buildings,

Simon s Rising Action In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies by William Golding, is a story of a group of young boys that gets stuck on an island
together after a plane crash. The rising action of this novel is when ralph blows on the conch to gather
all the boys. The climax is when Simon discovers the Lord of the Flies in the glades and discovers that
the Lord of the Flies is actually an entity that lives within each of the boys. The falling action is when
the adult is spotted by Ralph. Ralph: logical, charismatic, civilized, productive Jack: ego maniac,
savage, violent, power hungry Simon: good, moral, virtuous, noble Simon is a character that, instead
of letting his morals go as soon as they figured out that they were all alone, kept his values and morals
until his death. Simon is the character that discovers the beastie and the true meaning of it. He
recognized that the beastie was not a real serpent, but the evil that lurks in all human beings. He is
killed because he is the good in the world, not recognized by the savage beasts that are humans. ...

Why is Simon the only one to doubt the existence of a beast? ¨His mind was crowded with memories;
memories of the knowledge that had come to them when they closed in on the struggling pig,
knowledge that they had outwitted a living thing, imposed their will upon it, taken away its life like a

after killing his first pig. It is explaining how Jack began to hunt to feed the group but began to enjoy
it. He actually gained a need to hunt. He needed the power over the life of another life. This quote
connects to the theme because it explains how easy it is for humans to become beasts. Jack embodies
the true savagery and violence of humans. It also is another milestone of the boys changing into
savages. He is also able to gain more power over the group as he becomes more

Hegemonic Masculinity Summary
R.W. Connell s (1995) concept of hegemonic masculinity is the most significant theoretical device for
understanding the masculinity hierarchy. Demetriou (2001) states how hegemonic masculinity
expresses two different social practices, from a social constructivist view. The first is that men benefit
from the patriarchal system of society. The second process is that there is an intramasculine hierarchy
by which the social order of men is created and maintained. Connell (1995) argues that this is the
reason for the societal gender order where not only do men uphold power over women, but also
certain men are dominant over other men. Demetriou (2001) criticises Connell s term of hegemonic
masculinity for being too broad, as the main focus is usually placed on the intramasculine process. He
therefore believes this process to be internal hegemony (ibid).
In terms of the intramasculine order , Connell argues that there is a specific type of masculinity that is
revered the most and holds dominance over all other. Men who most closely exemplify this archetype
are considered to hold the most social capital. In this model Connell states that gay men are at the
bottom of the order and straight men that embody certain characteristics sit atop the hierarchy. Connell
s model furthers Brannon s (1976) work. In this he suggests four rules by which men should follow.
Hence, in Connell s (1995) model homophobia is a significant factor in sitting at the top of the
hierarchy and

Pride In King Lear Essay
King Lear and Gloucester both blame divine powers, out of pride, when things do not go the way that
they want them to, instead of taking responsibility, and it leads to them losing everything. Once they
have lost everything, they start to see things more clearly and end up earning some redemption before
they die. First, King Lear s pride in the first play, and refusal to accept blame, culminate in terrible
consequences later in the play. His hamartia becomes evident very early on in the play. When he
decides to split his kingdom amongst his daughter, he asks for flattery from them, instead of the truth.
This very clearly shows his excessive pride. He cares less about the truth about how his daughters feel
about him than the lies that will make him feel more important and ... Show more content on

Social Issues In Playing With Rainbows
Playing with Rainbows is a short story written by a Malaysian, Saroja Theavy Balakrishnan . Playing
with Rainbows narrates the dreadful story of Sita, a factory worker who is originated from an estate in
Kuala Kangsar. The story starts with Sita trying to commit suicide by jumping into severely polluted
river. However, her attempts prove futile as Banu, her best friend, is preventing her from doing so with
all her might. Sita depicts herself as a trash. Not only she loses her purity and dignity to a Pakistani
man whom she barely knows, also she is stone hearted enough to abandon her two month old baby in

Ice Hockey Vs. Roller Hockey Essay
Despite the fact that ice hockey and roller hockey both have the word hockey in common, there are
extreme differences between the two sports. There are the obvious differences like one being played
on ice and the other on a plastic surface, but many of the differences are only noticed by people that
have played both sports.
As everyone knows, ice hockey is played on ice, which makes it an extremely high paced game.
Unlike ice hockey, Roller hockey is played on a plastic floor that consists of many six inch by six inch
tiles. The plastic floor makes roller hockey a much slower paced game than ice hockey. The reason
that roller hockey is so much slower than ice hockey is because there is more friction. The friction is

An ice hockey game consists of five players and a goalie per team on the ice. Roller hockey however,
only has four players and a goalie. In ice hockey there are blue lines, which are approximately one
third of the way up the rink from each end. The blue lines are used to create zones on the ice surface.
If an offensive player enters the other team s defensive zone before the puck, the play is whistled dead
and it is called off sides. On the other hand in roller hockey, there are no such blue lines. Not having
blue lines makes the game much more wide open, which allows players to hang at the other team s
net, unlike ice hockey.
Another rule of ice hockey is icing, this is when a player shoots the puck from one end of the ice to the
other end and no one touches it. In roller hockey there is no rule for icing; instead players are allowed
to dump the puck from one end of the floor to the other. Both sports do enforce the same penalties
though. For example, both ice and roller hockey referees will call penalties for tripping, slashing,
roughing, etc.
Hockey does not only consist of players shooting the puck up and down the ice. There is more to
hockey than that. The most important aspect of the game is the player s mentality. Ice hockey and
roller hockey player s mentalities differ slightly. In ice hockey, players are told to stay in their
position. For example, a right winger is supposed to stay along the

Reflexive Transparency, Mental Content, and Externalism
It has been disputed whether an externalist conception of the individuation of intentional states, such
as beliefs and desires, is compatible with self knowledge, that is, the claim that one s judgments about
one s intentional states are non evidential, non inferential, and authoritative. I want to argue that these
theses are indeed incompatible, notwithstanding an important objection to this incompatibility claim.
The worry has been raised that if externalism is true, then for a subject to know, say, that he or she

which determine the belief s content. Thus, externalism would be ... Show more content on

And thus externalism would be incompatible with self knowledge. But many philosophers have
accepted an objection suggesting that this worry is mistaken, because even if one s belief content is
externally determined, one need not know the external conditions determining that content in order to
have the belief. And, thus, the subject s reflexive judgment about the belief would not need to rest on
evidence about those external conditions.(2) But this objection rests, in turn, on a crucial assumption
according to which mental content is reflexively transparent in the sense that a subject could not judge
that she has an intentional state and be mistaken about the content of her state, even if content is
externally determined.(3)
My main purpose is to question this crucial assumption. Now the claim that mental content is
reflexively transparent is extremely compelling and, if it is correct while externalism is true, then this
would indeed support the compatibility of externalism and self knowledge. But, I want to argue that
mental content is not reflexively transparent on the assumption of externalism. If my argument is
correct, the upshot is that self knowledge and

Fairies In A Midsummer s Night Dream
In A Midsummer s Night Dream by William Shakespeare, the struggle of balance and accord is
predominant, in many of the characters story. The mortal world and the fairy world have crossed over
many times in this play, and throughout their interactions, there has been forces of who is superior and
who is the weaker of the two. The Athenian lovers are just like any modern couples, and they have
fights or arguments at times, for example, both Lysander and Demetrius try to show their authority
and powers in their respective relationships. Puck is a mischievous fairy that tries to mess with the

intermediates between the mortal world and God. The daily chores and activities that they carried out
were all seen as acts of worship to God. This was how they would live out their lives preaching to God
and spreading the word of the Lord. Monasteries had a social, cultural, economic and spiritual

The land generated money for them through rent and farming. The monks who lived and worked in
them were very holy. The peasants were taught that the only way to Heaven and salvation was through
the church. People had therefore worked on the Church land for free. Another form of payment the
Church received was by families paying a tenth of the yearly income to the Church. Due to this the
Church became very wealthy and powerful gaining a lot of land and it was on this land that they built
the monasteries. The Monasteries provided religious service to the community and received money in
return. They also received donations in the form of money or goods, which was used or sold. Multure
was a big part of the income that monasteries received which was a fee paid to the owner of the mill
and everyone needed to use it to grind their grain. Monasteries also received money by holding courts
and handing out fines to the people living under the abbey s jurisdiction. Furness Abbey was the
second richest and most powerful abbey in England. The monks of the abbey were large land owners
and the most powerful group of people in an area which was very remote.

The Ancient Roman Empire
Rome, the first long and lasting empire that swept through other nations like wildfire. Rome broke the
barriers of politics and government. Rome also stood for something that citizens of today look at as
grotesque and savage. The fact that citizens would come together and cheer for another man while he
plunged his sword through his chest, with no understanding of life or family. The building that
represented this evil act is the Roman Coliseum. Although inside the coliseum death was glorified and
wished for the idea and meaning demonstrated politics and power. Rome was powerful in all meaning
of the power. Power is defined as the capability or the ability to direct or influence the behaviors of
others or the course of events. (sited by Dictornary.com). Rome certainly did this in a lot of ways.
Rome has both influenced culture and many other things. Rome itself stood over the world like a
shining example of an empire. Also, one of the most important people in this colossal empire, was the
emperor himself. One man that almost every dictator looks to as a shining example is Julius Caesar.
Julius Caesar traveled a lot as kid. And when he was young he was kidnapped by pirates. He also
traveled around the world to study and became a great war general (sited by vroma.org). Statues of
him still are in a lot of museums and public places. He has made an impact to the old world so big that

Roncarelli Vs Duplessis Case Study
Roncarelli v. Duplessis, [1959] SCR 121 Facts: Roncarelli, a Jehovah s witness and Montreal
restaurant owner, suffered a cancelled liquor licence ordered by Duplessis, Premier and Attorney
General of Quebec. The licence was revoked by the Liquor Commissioner of Quebec. Roncarelli had
posted bail for a large number of Jehovah s Witnesses after illegal distribution of religious pamphlets.
Roncarelli claimed that Duplessis had arbitrarily ordered the cancellation of his liquor licence as
punishment for helping the Jehovah s Witnesses. Roncarelli was told he was forever barred from
holding a liquor licence and warned about engaging in further activity with the Jehovah s Witnesses.
Roncarelli s licence was revoked in 1946. He was unable to maintain his business and sold it six
months later. Roncarelli sued Duplessis for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Was his decision a personal attack without legal justification? Decision: The Supreme court, in a 6 3
vote, found that the Duplessis did not act properly exercise his official authorities. Duplessis had
wrongly ordered the cancellation of Roncarelli s liquor license. Under art. 1053 of the Civil Code,
Duplessis was liable to damages. Reasoning: There was sufficient evidence to indicate that Duplessis
cancellation of Roncarelli s liquor licence was directly in response to Roncarelli s actions regarding
the Jehovah s Witnesses. Roncarelli did not act unlawfully, which could not justify the revocation of
his liquor licence. Duplessis actions could not be justifiable as he did not operate on good faith of his
official duties as the Premier of Quebec. Although the Commission does possess the legal authority to
revoke a liquor licence, it did so without reasonable justification. This action was irrelevant to the
actual sale of liquor in the restaurant and thus does not lie within the scope of discretion as described

Disaster Preparedness Of The United States
The United States experiences a variety of natural disasters throughout the year. Regardless of the
location of a natural disaster in the United States, a program of disaster preparedness, mitigation,
management, and prevention must be followed. Our community is nestled deep in the southeastern
corner of the United States. The south Florida area is bordered by water to the west, south, and east.
We are tested each year with flooding from torrential downpours, wildfires during the dry season, and
the possibility of hurricane landfall. All three of these hazards have the potential for creating great
damage to property, crippling local everyday life, and possibly causing loss of life.
Being prepared for a disaster includes all of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the summer months, south Florida areas experience heavy rain situation that sometimes cause
widespread flooding in some regions. There are four different types of flooding that can occur. First
type of flooding is flash flooding. Flash flooding occurs when the ground becomes saturated with
water that has fallen too quickly to be absorbed. Flash floods can also occur due to a dam or levee
failure. Second type of flooding is river flooding. River flooding occurs more in the northern part of
the state and near lake Okeechobee. Mostly caused by water runoff and dumps into lakes and basins to
the point of overflow. These types of floods are not very prevalent in the south Florida area. Next type
of flooding is urban flooding. Flooding can be magnified in urban areas as paved areas lose their
ability to absorb rainfall. Urbanization increases water runoff as much as two to six times over what
would occur on natural terrain. There s also areal flooding, which results in standing water in low
lying areas and open fields. This stagnant water can serve as a breeding ground for insects and disease.
These last two types of floods are the ones that affect the south Florida area most. Flood mapped areas
in the south Florida area have more enhanced drainage to remove the water. Also, extra pump stations
setup around those areas to help pump the water out in case of flooding. Although these areas may still
have some flooding, the risk assessment and mitigation efforts

Essay about The Words of the Dying Gaunt
The idea of England as a second paradise in a postlapsarian world was a popular thought in
Shakespeare s day. Not only did Englanders compare their land the to Biblical Eden, but also to
Classical legends that would have flourished in the Renaissance era. The fact that Britain is an island
isolated from the rest of the world invited the comparison of England to mythical islands such as the
Islands of the Blest and Homer s Ogygia (Mackenzie 319). Such comparisons surely originated in the
strong patriotism that thrived in the Elizabethan era. Shakespeare capitalized on this feeling through
his history plays, which both instructed his audience on England s past and fed the patriotic ego of her
citizens (Reese 46). Nowhere does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This warning foreshadows Richard s confiscation of Gaunt s estate and the rebellion staged by
Bullingbrook, Gaunt s son and rightful heir.
The next portion of Gaunt s speech reverberates the idea of England as a second paradise. The image
of England throughout Richard II is not only presented through pictures of glorious landscape and
well tended gardens, but through its citizens, both royal and common (Stauffer 92). Gaunt fluidly but
forcefully presents images of England throughout his speech. He gives a list of qualities in a rhythmic
tour de force (Best), which connects all of England s attributes with the word this :
This royal throne of kings, this sceptered isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself (40 44)
These images present England as embodying physical attributes given by God.
Gaunt continues this list of attributes by also praising England s citizens by referring to them as This
happy breed of men (45). The land is therefore credited for producing high quality men, lending to the
theme of England as female, fertile and mother to all her inhabitants. She is further

Unemployment As An Economic Problem In The United States
An economic problem can be defined as a fundamental idea that a scarcity of resources exists in the
economy. This means in the sense that only finite and insufficient resources are available to satisfy the
needs and wants of all human beings. Since resources are scarce the basic idea revolves around how
resources should be allocated and utilized effectively and efficiently. Moreover how resources can be
put to use to give out a maximum efficient output. Human beings are one of the greatest resources
present in the economy. The underutilization of human beings in terms of their expertise as a medium
of economic development and progress is one of the leading problems not only just in the United
States but also around the world. One of the major problems faced in different economies all around
the world is unemployment. Even though the idea of unemployment may seem to be a usual day to
day problem, the effects of unemployment are adverse on the health and well being of an economy In
the United States; unemployment has been fairly low (5% or lower) for much of the past two decades.
However even a low unemployment rate affect and undermine economic growth. Let us examine what
unemployment means; Unemployment is a situation when there are simply not enough jobs for people
who wish to have one. Every economy in the world has some unemployment because people leave
jobs (by their choice or against their will) and are usually unemployed for a time before they find new
employment.

Using Satire in A Modest Proposal” by Jonathan Swift
A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, is an essay that uses satire. Merriam Webster defines satire as:
a way of using humor to show that someone or something is foolish, weak, bad, etc.: humor that
shows the weaknesses or bad qualities of a person, government, society, etc. Satire may make the
reader laugh at, or feel disgust for, the person or thing satirized. Impishly or sardonically, it criticizes
someone or something, using wit and clever wording and sometimes makes outrageous assertions or
claims (Cummings, 2012). Swift, best know for Gulliver s Travels , originally wrote this piece as a

Swift does not stop there; he offers up six key areas this will be helpful. First, reducing the number of

They are a burden to the whole of Ireland. Third, increasing the nations income, with fewer mouths to

culinary world to refine and charge as much as they see fit. Finally, it would gain women the same
level of respect as the farm animals when they are pregnant. Offering up reasons of objection, Swift
suggests that it may impact the population, and then retorts with, that was kind of the idea. Cull the

Presiding Officers in Texas State Legislature
Presiding Officers in Texas State Legislature: The Texas Legislature is the most significant body in the
state involved in decision making, which is a bicameral legislative body consisting of two chambers
i.e. the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Senate is made up of 31 members who serve
four year terms while the House of Representatives consist of 150 representatives elected for a term of
two years. Generally, legislators in this state tend to be wealthier, more educated, and having higher
education status as compared to their constituents. The elitist nature of the Texas Legislature is
attributed to several factors including the costs associated with running for the legislature and the
relatively low annual salary of approximately $7,200. The two chambers of the Texas Legislature are
headed by two different presiding officers with varying institutional and procedural powers. The
presiding officer of the House of Representatives in Texas Legislature is the Speaker of the House
while the Lieutenant Governor is the presiding officer of the Senate. While the Speaker is elected at
the opening of every session through a majority vote, the Lieutenant Governor is elected through a
statewide election and serves for four years ( Chapter 3 Texas Legislature , n.d.). The Lieutenant
Governor has significant influence in the development of state policy and laws that are ultimately

the Patent Extension Provision law part of the IPPP allowing a 20 year extended patent guarantee for

Metabolism Research Paper
The human body consists of many different systems which work together for one ultimate purpose; to
keep the body functioning properly. For years scientists have studied the components of the body, but
sometimes research only leads to more questions. One of those questions being, What if people were
born without adrenal glands? With the different mutations discovered in the human genes throughout
the recent years, this could be possible. In fact, if this occurred, the body would not be able to regulate
metabolism or maintain an internal balance between salt and water. This would also hinder a woman s
ability to become pregnant. Metabolism is a single term used to explain the complex steps the body
takes in turning the food person eats into the energy they need to function during the course of their
day. This includes big tasks such as running and jumping, but also small things we do not think about
such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During stressful situations the adrenal glands release cortisol to get our body out of the fight or flight
stage. If a person is constantly under loads of stress the body will be overproducing cortisol. One may
ask how this involves pregnancy and the answer is quite simple. The body was created to depend on
different parts of itself to work together to carry out one function. When it comes to conception;
progesterone, the pregnancy hormone, is vital to becoming pregnant. This hormone works to get the
uterus to the point where it can maintain a zygote, or fertilized egg. How are these related?
Progesterone is used to make cortisol. If your body is constantly trying to produce a sufficient amount
of cortisol to lower your adrenaline from too much stress then that will leave little or no progesterone
left to conceive. This is also a factor in why women have miscarriages; their bodies are not producing
enough of hormones necessary to complete a full term

Folk Music Influence On American Culture
There are many things that influence cultures around the world, some of these things being big and
some of these things being small. One of the largest impacts on cultures would be music and poetry. It
seems that these two things, more than anything else, tie people together and give them common
grounds (Earhart). These two things not only have the power to tie people together but they also have
the ability to tear them apart. For example music has influenced the way people dress, act, and even
talk (Syncrat).
A great example in American history of how music has influenced a culture would be the rise of folk
music during the 20th century. Among other things The Civil Rights Movement was in full swing and

the listeners to think differently and take action to change their conditions (Music s Effects on People

There were certain songs that became like anthems for particular generations. Examples of this would

John Lennon s Imagine which talks about imagining a world without all the negative things where
people love each other instead of hate on another. There were songs that brought together countries in

Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde
In this book, there exist a battle between good and evil in the main characters where we are bound to
ask ourselves what is superior between good and evil? Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are easily seen as an
allegory of the evil and good that exists in men. The book depicts the struggle with two sides of the
human personality. Since Mr. Hyde seems to be taking over Dr. Jekyll, one could claim that evil is
stronger than good. Nevertheless, Mr. Hyde ends up dead at the end of the story, which strongly shows
the weakness and the failure of evil, so we have to ask ourselves whether good can be separated from
evil. Great people are involved in bad things this is the fact of life, yet this does not make them evil

Using the central characters and the key theme of the duplicity of mankind Robert Louis Stevenson

Some of these taboos were female sexuality, struggles, and triumph over the stereotypes that had been

The next section of the story shows Calixta, the mother, sitting at a window sewing. She isn t

the way things are going for you. It also gives feed back to your doctor so they can know how you are
doing with your health.
Efficiency and time management is another amazing thing about these apps following along with the
patient engagement. Patient save time by not having to pick up test result and visit the office

The Joker Is A Pop Icon
They can t be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world
burn. Alfred Pennyworth, The Dark Knight, 2008. He s known by many names; The Clown Prince of
Crime, Killer Clown, Mr. J, but to most he s simply known as The Joker. Being one of the few villains
that are just as popular as their hero, The Joker is a pop culture icon. There s a dark past and a
mysterious history behind one of DC comics most beloved villains. There have been countless stories
told and a few actors that have portrayed Batman s nemesis, but the dark cloud of The Joker s past
remains obscure and incredibly intriguing. This leaves countless loyal fans wondering who s behind
that killer smile.
The inspiration for the Joker came from young Batman ghost artist Jerry Robinson. Jerry Robinson
said, I knew that all great heroes had an anti hero, and were stronger characters because they were
pitted against strong antagonists. I began to toss around ideas and somehow I thought, well, he s got a
sense of humor he s a joker. I immediately made an association with the joker playing card with that
marvelous grinning face. Then I made my first drawing of the Joker, a playing card with the Joker face
on it. (Piperson, 2014) In the spring of 1940 The Joker made his first appearance in Batman #1. The
Joker was inspired by The Man Who Laughs actor Conrad Veidt, who played a disfigured man with a
permanent smile. At the time of his origin, DC was looking to challenge

Analysis Of My Neighbour Totoro
The adventurous, visually enchanting animated Japanese movie, My Neighbour Totoro, by Hayao
Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli released in 1988 in Japan, attempts to show the viewers the innocence and
the sense of community in Japan before the prevalent industrialization and economic boom. The
movie is set in the countryside away from the big industrialized cities. The main characters are the
schoolgirl, Satsuki Kusakabe, and her younger sister, Mei Kusakabe. Their days are brightened thanks
to the spirit of the forest, Totoro.
Hayao Miyazaki, who is born in 1941, is incorporating his own childhood in the film. Furthermore, he
focuses on the historical time the movie is set. Meanwhile, noting that the movie is made in 1988
which is during the period of the economic bubble, he reminds us of the simple Japan in the 1950s
before the economic boom occupied the people of this country. In contrast to the past, people who live
in the city area do not get involved with one another s business despite how Japan has practiced
chonaikai for having an intimate sense of community within the neighbourhood ever since the revival
of chonaikai after World War 2. Hayao Miyazaki is able to reveal this specific ambience of the
Japanese community in the movie when the Kusakabe s neighbours, a young boy, and grandmother,
come to help the Kusakabe family move into their new old rotten house. It is also seen when all the
neighbours nearby help Satsuki look for her lost sister. Although the neighbours do

Since the global financial downturn in late 2008, retailing has since delivered negative growth.
Employment within the sector, the second largest single employer within Australia , also fell by 6% in
2009. Fashion retailers are continually at the mercy of consumer spending especially during economic
downturns. In fact, the fashion industry in 2009 delivered a negative sales turnover of 1.9%. Not
surprisingly, department store sales also plummeted to 3.5%.
Generally speaking, with the current climate lacking economic stimulus coupled with higher interest
rates and media reports generating signs of an economic recovery, analysts are predicting that
eventually the retail trade sector will gradually resurface into positive territory. Customers will be
more pragmatic and cautious about the future which will yield new patterns of behavior and
relationships.
Corporate strategy
Since its incorporation in 1974, CR was renowned as a shirting business for women. It is now best
known for retailing quality clothing for men and women, homewares and fashion accessories. As
Country Road s traditional market has always been fashion conscious young urban professionals, they
have a built a brand that was stylish, simple and beautiful whilst providing consumers quality, fit and
value in every product. This has since expanded to include mature aged consumers with the
introduction of its new label Trenery .

The Challenges Of Communicative Language Teaching
As we all know that English is a global language, there is a need to learn the language to meet the
future challenges especially to the students of non native speakers of English. Language is used as a
tool for communication. To learn a foreign language like English, students need mental involvement.
Modern classrooms require the learner centered approaches. One such approach is Communicative
Language Teaching. This type of teaching facilitates learning through modern techniques. Many
researchers suggest that students who are actively involved in learning process will get success. Once
they are actively involved in learning process they get self confidence and motivation. The
instructional materials and techniques used by teachers have a direct effect on many students. If the
approach fits the preferred learning mode, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the basic reasons for failure of maximum students in these areas is that, they fail to
comprehend and utilize these faculties to the fullest extent. In our everyday use of language, we use all
the four LSRW skills, ie., Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. We are continually integrating
the language skills or switching from one skill to another. It is best to reflect this integration when
teaching a second or foreign language. For example, good pre or post listening activities usually
involve speaking, and sometimes reading and writing as well. Similarly, good pre or post reading
activities usually involve listening and speaking, and sometimes reading. Writing may be handled
orally first (for example, a picture composition, or brainstorming ideas), and may also involve reading
as well, for example, reading a letter and writing a reply. These four skills of LSRW remain the
cornerstones of students language learning programs. It is a fact that students with routine access to
technology learn basic language skills faster than

Reality and Illusion
Postmodern literature draws attention to its status as fictional to break down barriers between reality
and illusion. The boundaries between real and fake are no longer clear, because identity is socially
constructed. In White Noise and Nights at the Circus, characters such as Sophie Fevvers and Jack
Gladney have fabricated personas, and they exaggerate these roles so that their audiences cannot tell
the difference between what the characters perform and their true nature. There are many Matryoshka
principles in Nights at the Circus, adding many layers of fiction to the story. This emphasizes the
constructed identities of the characters by the authors and the characters themselves. This essay will
examine how performance, mise en abyme, fabulation, and hyperreality all indicate how identity is
constructed. In Nights at the Circus and White Noise, the audience is not supposed to be able to tell
whether the characters are performing a certain role. Instead, they tend to step into a role, as if this is
their true nature, but they know what is adorned. In Nights at the Circus, when Walser meets Fevvers,
he runs through diverse processes of belief and disbelief as he talks to and observes her. When he is
watching her on the trapeze, he starts as quite rational, he whimsically reasoned with her status as a
winged woman and analyzes her anatomy in a scientific manner comparable to Darwinism by all the
laws of evolution and human reason . He represents the typical,

Carlton Room Divider
At the Art Institute of Chicago, there is a postmodern design show called the Design Episodes: Form,
Style, and Language . There were three exhibits in one room included in this show. On one side of the
room there was an exhibit that featured works and materials about graphic design. Another side of the
room was an exhibit was about the evolution of the modern chair, and the last side of the room was
about an architectural design exhibit. I chose to write about the architectural design exhibit for this
exhibit review. This particular exhibit features seventeen works done by the radical Italian group
called Memphis and the architectural firm Coop Himmelblau. It features works of postmodern
furniture, ceramics, and glass and metal objects. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is manufactured by Ing. C. Olivetti and C. S.P.A. This piece is made from ABS plastic and other
materials. The portable typewriter is bright red with the word valentine carved in the front of it. This
piece has a pop art feel to it with its bright red lipstick type of color and two yellow buttons on the
ribbon spools. The Valentine Portable Typewriter is more than the function of being a plain typewriter
used in an office. It has a playful and younger feel to it with its bright red color. It was made, Ettore
said, for the use any place except in an office, so as not to remind anyone of monotonous working
hours, but rather to keep amateur poets company on quiet Sundays in the countryside or to provide a
highly colored object on a table in a studio apartment. An anti machine, built around the commonest
mass produced mechanism, the works inside any typewriter, it may also seem to be an unpretentious

  • 2. How Does The Coffee Trade Affect The Economy Coffee is certainly not a drink. It is a global commodity. The coffee industry hires many people around the world for its growing, processing, and trading. The coffee trade is vital in economies in less developed countries and in more developed countries. Every single way the coffee trade works in is vital to economies; from farmers, to consumers. Therefore many people attempt to make the coffee trade fairer to its people. From these people, many of their attempts do not suffice. The global coffee trade affects everyone in it and even outside of it. The coffee trade created jobs for people to farm coffee. These coffee farmers now have jobs that add on to the economy. This helps people especially in less developed countries and their economies. These farmers are not being paid a lot, specifically if they are in a less developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These roasters then roast the coffee beans and then bring them to the consumers. They are being paid much more than what farmers are being paid. Farmers are the reason why the rest of the trade makes so much money. They are being so underpaid that people have to make organizations to make sure that farmers are paid better than they were. This is to make sure that farmers have money in their economies and are able to school their children. Organizations such as FairTrade make sure that farmers get paid more money than they used to. This is so they could afford drinking water, education, food, and such. This is so they can afford to just live better. Although this seems like the perfect plan, it does also fail sometimes. Organizations such as FairTrade cannot get everyone to buy into it. Starbucks only uses FairTrade espresso beans for their espresso coffee. FairTrade coffee is more expensive since more money is put into the farmer s hands. However, there have been claims that the farmers are not actually being paid as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Tata Nano Case To: Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman TATA Group of companies, India From: Date: Fall 2008 The issue that TATA Motors Inc. is facing right now is to predict the viability of the Project Nano. Also, TATA Motors Inc. wants to know what other steps it can adopt to improve the chances of success for its newest venture The Nano. Overview TATA Motors Inc., part of one of the most respected Business Houses in India TATA Sons INC., is currently in a phase of producing the world s cheapest car TATA NANO. The company has made efforts in manufacturing a cheap car priced at around USD 2200 (INR 100000 Approximately) while still not forgoing the quality and environmental efficiency of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * It can increase the price on NANO in the developed economies and use part of these higher profits towards sustainability, thus, improving its brand presence and also achieving its intent towards society. * TATA can extend the credit period of its suppliers by using its highly respected brand name and thus, reduce costs and so, improve its margins. * TATA should make sure that it has a strong distribution and order placement system which makes it easier for its customers to place and receive orders. * TATA should predict the demand for the NANO which is to be very high and be prepared for mass production and utilize its highly sophisticated manufacturing process to the fullest. * TATA Motors has a distinct advantage in entering the tourist car/Taxi car segment in India as the old tourist vehicle/Taxi Car: the Fiat 1100D is no longer in production and the other alternatives are priced at a very high rate as compared to the NANO. * TATA has an advantage in entering the auto rickshaw/Tuk Tuk segment in developing economies like India, Thailand, Cuba, China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Pakistan as the cost of these vehicles is around the cost of TATA NANO but these vehicles are only 3 wheelers and thus, occupy lesser people per vehicle. Conclusion TATA NANO is a project that will surely be viable in the longer run. Further, it will be a project that will embark India as the biggest producer of small cars in the world. • 4. Portrayal Of Women In Persepolis Women in our society have been treated as a sideline, not included, and muted across our generations. In the graphic novel Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi shows religion and authority to portray that women in the text are marginalized, excluded, and silenced. This graphic novel takes place in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, which influenced a lot of how women were treated. The women in Persepolis are marginalized, excluded, and silenced by restricted communication, forbidden to wear what they want, and not always having control of their actions. Persepolis demonstrates women being marginalized, excluded, and silenced through restricted communication. In the chapter The Key , the girls are being marginalized and silenced by Marji explaining a mandatory self flagellation ritual they perform twice a day as mourning the dead of the war, Marji says, ...And we had to beat our chests in a voice over, as a way of telling us she had no choice in the ritual or to speak during it(95). The image for the self flagellation additionally portrays this thought by everyone executing the same beating, dressed the same, and their emanata expresses a straight face looking forward in silence. Satrapi also goes on saying and showing for initiation for the beginning of school, all the girls are illustrated as confused with question marks above them as indication, as the icon/teacher says, Let s go children on the heart(96) Satrapi only speaks in voiceovers as a way of indicating she, and no ... • 5. The Separation Of Foam Separation Foam separation techniques are neither much widely used nor much research have been done in this area lately. But due to the high selectivity, thermal stability and the ability to separate components from very dilute solutions (as low as 10 10 mole/liter), it is worth being applied as modern separation and purification techniques. Particulates that are to be separated from solution are associated with surfactants and are adsorbed at the liquid air interface. Interaction energy between the nonpolar hydrocarbon chains of the surfactant and the polar water molecules is less than the interaction energy between water molecules themselves leading to organic molecules in bulk water to be energetically less favorable than their presence out of the bulk water at the interface. Foam fractionation, ionic flotation, molecular flotation, microflotation, froth flotation these diverse types of foam separation techniques allow the separation and purification of a wide variety of components starting from detergents to heavy metal ions and proteins. Gibbs adsorption isotherm, Young Laplace equation, Langmuir isotherm control the separation parameters. The easy apparatus setting and simplistic separation process leads to its utilization in analytical purposes and economically feasible industrial set up. Various variables like ionic strength, length of chain, concentration of surfactants, Solution hydrogen concentration, flocculants, concentration of complexing ions, flow rate of gas, ... • 7. Essay on The Trial of Socrates Socrates was accused of being a sophist because he was engaging in inquiries into things beneath the earth and in the heavens, of making the weaker argument appear the stronger, and teaching others these same things. (Apology, Plato, Philosophic Classics page 21) Socrates is also accused of denying the existence of the gods, and corrupting the youth. Socrates goes about trying to prove his innocence. The jury that Socrates was tried by was made up of 501 Athenian citizens of all classes of society. While he fails to convince the Athenian jury of his innocence, he does a wonderful job in this effort. Socrates tells a story in an attempt to explain this. It starts with a man named Chaerephon, a well respected citizen of Athens, who had died recently. Chaerephon goes to the Oracle at Delphi and he asked if there was anyone wiser than Socrates. (Apology, Plato, Philosophic Classics, page 23) The Oracle, of course, says that there is no man wiser than Socrates. When Socrates heard of what the Oracle said, he begins to wonder what riddle is hidden in those words. He knows that he is not a wise man, so he knows that he cannot be the wisest of men. Not knowing what then Oracle truly meant, he goes out to investigate this. He went to a man who was reputed to be very wise. He thought that he would find a man who is wiser than himself, and thus point out to the Oracle its mistake. Socrates finds that this man actually knows nothing that is worth knowing. When Socrates tries to point this out to the man, he and the bystanders become angry. Socrates says that he is wiser than this man because, while they both know nothing, Socrates realizes this. The other man thinks he knows things that he does not, while Socrates knows that he knows nothing. Socrates claims that he has done this with many men, and that each time, he came to the same result: the man knows nothing and thinks he knows everything, and Socrates has made the man angry. • 8. Slavery In The 1800s Mason Fleischauer Rahner Collegio Mr. Arthur Slavery Essay In the 1700 s and 1800 s, the planter elite class of the American South conspired with both federal and state governments and other whites to institutionalize slavery in order to protect their economic and social power and way of life. Their efforts were generally wide spread, simple, blatant and generally very effective. At the federal level, southerners in the House of Representatives, who were often controlled and funded by the planter elites, won approval of James Madison s resolution which declared that Congress ha[s] no authority to interfere in the emancipation of slaves, or in the treatment of them within any of the States. Laws like the Alabama Slave Code of 1852 not only required all whites to patrol plantations so slaves did not escape, they also prohibited slaves from travelling without their masters, from carrying any kind of weapon, from owning property and from gathering in groups larger than five (Primary Source Packet). Most any violation of the Code resulted in branding, whipping or death. These regulations prevented slaves from ever gaining power, defending themselves or trying to organize or rebel against slavery. They also helped the elites control poor yeomen whites by giving them jobs, minor government positions and rewards for patrolling and capturing escaped slaves. The Plantation Slave Roles also incentivized slaves to follow authority even if it meant hiding their beliefs and emotions or even beating or whipping other slaves (Primary Source Packet). The Roles effectively helped the planter elites institutionalize slavery with the help of slaves. The planter elite class relied on slavery in order to protect their economic way of life. They used their wealth and power to ensure that the northern states and federal government did not interfere with slavery in the south. The elites similarly used their wealth and power to establish local and state laws to prevent slaves from gaining power or rebelling, and they also incentivized poor whites to support slavery by rewarding with money, jobs and minor government positions. All of these actions effectively institutionalized slavery and preserved the wealth and power of the planter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Limiting Reactant Lab INTRODUCTION When two substances undergo a chemical reaction, often times one of the reactants will be completely used up before the other. This reactant is known as the limiting reactant. A limiting reactant is the substance that controls or limits the amount of product which can be formed. For example, think about it in terms of making grilled cheese. If one grilled cheese requires two slices of bread and one slice of cheese, but there are four pieces of bread and one piece of cheese, only one grilled cheese can be made because there is one slice of cheese. This would make the cheese a limiting reactant and two other slices of bread will be unused and left in excess. This is known as an excess reactant. In a chemical reaction the excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, achieving this task is very unlikely due to three major unavoidable sources of error. The first one being the adherent property of the precipitate. The precipitate had a tendency to stick to the sides of the beaker and even the bottom of the stirring rod. Even after attempting to wash it off, most was able to be cleaned but a little bit of the precipitate was still stuck and would not come off. This leads to having less than the actual yield. Another source of error was that the size of the filter paper was awfully small. This made it so the chances of spilling the precipitate and not getting it in the funnel was much greater than it should have been. Some of the product was lost during the transfer from the beaker to the funnel due to this factor, in the end reducing the total yield recovered. Lastly the substances used may not be 100% pure, this means that the mass of the reactants could have been less than the actual measured amount. This means the mathematically calculated theoretical yield was larger than it should have been. These impurities in the reactants do not yield the full desired products so the yield will almost always end up being less than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Taking a Look at the Britannia Panopticon The Britannia Panopticon is not the sort of heritage you walk about gazing at while thinking, Isn t that pretty , admitted the music hall s preservation director Judith Bowers. She claims that a truly restored Panopticon would have to reflect its thousand strong poor and even rough audience, paying tribute to the folk who frequented the theatre over its long history. The Panopticon was built in 1857 on the site of an old warehouse by the partnership of little known architect Thomas Gildard and his brother in law H.M. McFarlane. The building, which was born as a music hall and can be counted among the first to get electricity in Glasgow, became one of the earliest establishments to be put into moving picture. It also housed freak shows, carnivals, waxworks and even an indoor zoo attracting a diverse audience. It came to be called a people s theatre in the hands of its most notable owner A.E. Pickard a notorious business man, millionaire and quite the eccentric person. Unblemished or nearly intact purpose built theatres from an early age are extremely rare in Britain. This is due to the fact that theatres that were failing financially were razed by the dozens in order to sell the land. Even financially successful theatres were razed so that they could be rebuilt bigger and better. Consequently, Britannia Music Hall, one of the few remaining examples of a nineteenth century music hall, is worth restoration and preservation. Other historic theatre buildings, like the ... The rising action of this novel is when ralph blows on the conch to gather all the boys. The climax is when Simon discovers the Lord of the Flies in the glades and discovers that the Lord of the Flies is actually an entity that lives within each of the boys. • 12. Hegemonic Masculinity Summary R.W. Connell s (1995) concept of hegemonic masculinity is the most significant theoretical device for understanding the masculinity hierarchy. Demetriou (2001) states how hegemonic masculinity expresses two different social practices, from a social constructivist view. The first is that men benefit from the patriarchal system of society. The second process is that there is an intramasculine hierarchy by which the social order of men is created and maintained. Connell (1995) argues that this is the reason for the societal gender order where not only do men uphold power over women, but also certain men are dominant over other men. Demetriou (2001) criticises Connell s term of hegemonic masculinity for being too broad, as the main focus is usually placed on the intramasculine process. He therefore believes this process to be internal hegemony (ibid). In terms of the intramasculine order , Connell argues that there is a specific type of masculinity that is revered the most and holds dominance over all other. Men who most closely exemplify this archetype are considered to hold the most social capital. In this model Connell states that gay men are at the bottom of the order and straight men that embody certain characteristics sit atop the hierarchy. Connell s model furthers Brannon s (1976) work. In this he suggests four rules by which men should follow. Hence, in Connell s (1995) model homophobia is a significant factor in sitting at the top of the hierarchy and ... First, King Lear s pride in the first play, and refusal to accept blame, culminate in terrible consequences later in the play. His hamartia becomes evident very early on in the play. There are the obvious differences like one being played on ice and the other on a plastic surface, but many of the differences are only noticed by people that have played both sports. As everyone knows, ice hockey is played on ice, which makes it an extremely high paced game. Unlike ice hockey, Roller hockey is played on a plastic floor that consists of many six inch by six inch tiles. The plastic floor makes roller hockey a much slower paced game than ice hockey. The reason that roller hockey is so much slower than ice hockey is because there is more friction. The friction is produced in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An ice hockey game consists of five players and a goalie per team on the ice. Roller hockey however, only has four players and a goalie. In ice hockey there are blue lines, which are approximately one third of the way up the rink from each end. The blue lines are used to create zones on the ice surface. If an offensive player enters the other team s defensive zone before the puck, the play is whistled dead and it is called off sides. On the other hand in roller hockey, there are no such blue lines. Not having blue lines makes the game much more wide open, which allows players to hang at the other team s net, unlike ice hockey. Another rule of ice hockey is icing, this is when a player shoots the puck from one end of the ice to the other end and no one touches it. In roller hockey there is no rule for icing; instead players are allowed to dump the puck from one end of the floor to the other. Both sports do enforce the same penalties though. For example, both ice and roller hockey referees will call penalties for tripping, slashing, roughing, etc. Hockey does not only consist of players shooting the puck up and down the ice. There is more to hockey than that. The most important aspect of the game is the player s mentality. Ice hockey and roller hockey player s mentalities differ slightly. Reflexive Transparency, Mental Content, and Externalism It has been disputed whether an externalist conception of the individuation of intentional states, such as beliefs and desires, is compatible with self knowledge, that is, the claim that one s judgments about one s intentional states are non evidential, non inferential, and authoritative. I want to argue that these theses are indeed incompatible, notwithstanding an important objection to this incompatibility claim. But many philosophers have accepted an objection suggesting that this worry is mistaken, because even if one s belief content is externally determined, one need not know the external conditions determining that content in order to have the belief. And, thus, the subject s reflexive judgment about the belief would not need to rest on evidence about those external conditions.(2) But this objection rests, in turn, on a crucial assumption according to which mental content is reflexively transparent in the sense that a subject could not judge that she has an intentional state and be mistaken about the content of her state, even if content is externally determined.(3) My main purpose is to question this crucial assumption. Now the claim that mental content is reflexively transparent is extremely compelling and, if it is correct while externalism is true, then this would indeed support the compatibility of externalism and self knowledge. Not only did Englanders compare their land the to Biblical Eden, but also to Classical legends that would have flourished in the Renaissance era. The fact that Britain is an island isolated from the rest of the world invited the comparison of England to mythical islands such as the Islands of the Blest and Homer s Ogygia (Mackenzie 319). The way this system is set up it goes not only to public individuals but also government individuals, so smartphones can be used to hack a server and cause delicate information to get out. Personal information is stored in one location for convenience and accessibility, which is all the same for an identity thief. Smart phones can also be used for other measures such as getting into personal information and which is also part of being a hacker. Advantages of the smart apps would include engagement with the patient. Patients have access to their real time information which shows the trust between the patient and the physician. Some patients are even calling these apps the front line to modern medicine. This apps do so much; for example Traxion. This is an app that allows you to have a mobile trainer and it watches you and tracks your health and the way things are going for you. It also gives feed back to your doctor so they can know how you are doing with your health. Efficiency and time management is another amazing thing about these apps following along with the patient engagement. Patient save time by not having to pick up test result and visit the office repeatedly just to get updated information. Login into applications such as iDoc, Inewleaf, ect helps with savings for the patient. A point that is included in my scenario is if the NFL player did harm his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He s known by many names; The Clown Prince of Crime, Killer Clown, Mr. J, but to most he s simply known as The Joker. Being one of the few villains that are just as popular as their hero, The Joker is a pop culture icon. There s a dark past and a mysterious history behind one of DC comics most beloved villains. There have been countless stories told and a few actors that have portrayed Batman s nemesis, but the dark cloud of The Joker s past remains obscure and incredibly intriguing. This leaves countless loyal fans wondering who s behind that killer smile. The inspiration for the Joker came from young Batman ghost artist Jerry Robinson. Jerry Robinson said, I knew that all great heroes had an anti hero, and were stronger characters because they were pitted against strong antagonists. I began to toss around ideas and somehow I thought, well, he s got a sense of humor he s a joker. I immediately made an association with the joker playing card with that marvelous grinning face. Then I made my first drawing of the Joker, a playing card with the Joker face on it. (Piperson, 2014) In the spring of 1940 The Joker made his first appearance in Batman #1. The Joker was inspired by The Man Who Laughs actor Conrad Veidt, who played a disfigured man with a permanent smile. At the time of his origin, DC was looking to challenge ... • 41. Analysis Of My Neighbour Totoro The adventurous, visually enchanting animated Japanese movie, My Neighbour Totoro, by Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli released in 1988 in Japan, attempts to show the viewers the innocence and the sense of community in Japan before the prevalent industrialization and economic boom. The movie is set in the countryside away from the big industrialized cities. The main characters are the schoolgirl, Satsuki Kusakabe, and her younger sister, Mei Kusakabe. Their days are brightened thanks to the spirit of the forest, Totoro. Hayao Miyazaki, who is born in 1941, is incorporating his own childhood in the film. Furthermore, he focuses on the historical time the movie is set. Meanwhile, noting that the movie is made in 1988 which is during the period of the economic bubble, he reminds us of the simple Japan in the 1950s before the economic boom occupied the people of this country. In contrast to the past, people who live in the city area do not get involved with one another s business despite how Japan has practiced chonaikai for having an intimate sense of community within the neighbourhood ever since the revival of chonaikai after World War 2. Hayao Miyazaki is able to reveal this specific ambience of the Japanese community in the movie when the Kusakabe s neighbours, a young boy, and grandmother, come to help the Kusakabe family move into their new old rotten house. It is also seen when all the neighbours nearby help Satsuki look for her lost sister. Although the neighbours do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the basic reasons for failure of maximum students in these areas is that, they fail to comprehend and utilize these faculties to the fullest extent. In our everyday use of language, we use all the four LSRW skills, ie., Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. We are continually integrating the language skills or switching from one skill to another. It is best to reflect this integration when teaching a second or foreign language. For example, good pre or post listening activities usually involve speaking, and sometimes reading and writing as well. • 46. Reality and Illusion Postmodern literature draws attention to its status as fictional to break down barriers between reality and illusion. The boundaries between real and fake are no longer clear, because identity is socially constructed. In White Noise and Nights at the Circus, characters such as Sophie Fevvers and Jack Gladney have fabricated personas, and they exaggerate these roles so that their audiences cannot tell the difference between what the characters perform and their true nature. There are many Matryoshka principles in Nights at the Circus, adding many layers of fiction to the story. This emphasizes the constructed identities of the characters by the authors and the characters themselves. This essay will examine how performance, mise en abyme, fabulation, and hyperreality all indicate how identity is constructed. In Nights at the Circus and White Noise, the audience is not supposed to be able to tell whether the characters are performing a certain role. Instead, they tend to step into a role, as if this is their true nature, but they know what is adorned. In Nights at the Circus, when Walser meets Fevvers, he runs through diverse processes of belief and disbelief as he talks to and observes her. When he is watching her on the trapeze, he starts as quite rational, he whimsically reasoned with her status as a winged woman and analyzes her anatomy in a scientific manner comparable to Darwinism by all the laws of evolution and human reason .
