Ship Of Fools Case Study
Founded in 1880, the site of Kyle, Texas, was selected based on the location of the nearby
International Great Northern Railroad route. By 1890, the population had grown to almost 800, and
in 2010, there were more than 28,000 people residing in Kyle. Despite its explosive growth, most of
the property owners in Kyle remain committed to maintaining their properties to ensure that the city
retains its quaint charm. This includes maintaining the asphalt pavement found on many city
streets, parking lots and residential driveways and for more than three decades, Alpha Paving has
been helping them with their asphalt installation, repair and maintenance needs. Whether they need
new pavement, sealcoating or crack repairs, the people in Kyle know that... Show more content on

New asphalt pavement should have sealant applied within the first year following installation.
Depending on traffic volume and vehicle weights, sealant will need to be applied every two or
three years to ensure maximum protection. Sealcoating guards against sun damage as well as
damage caused by petroleum based automotive fluids. It also revitalizes the color of asphalt that
has faded.
Have any breaks in the pavement repaired quickly. Cracks, deep cuts and potholes can let water
drain beneath the pavement and erode the foundation. Once the foundation has become eroded and
unstable, the pavement loses its ability to flex under load and extensive cracking can occur.
Make parking lots safer and more attractive by having fresh paint applied to mark parking spaces,
crosswalks, loading zones, travel directions, exits, handicapped parking spaces and fire lanes.
If an aging pavement has become unsightly, check to see if it can be salvaged with an overlay
before committing to a total replacement. If the foundation is stable, it might be cost effective to
choose an overlay, which is a course of asphalt applied to existing pavement.

Farewell To Manzanar Analysis
These days most people don t realize that we need to accept what s happening in our lives and just
look to the light at the end of the tunnel. Sean McCabe, web designer, lettering guru, and successful
entrepreneur says, Endurance is the price tag to achievement. In Farewell to Manzanar we see a
motif of endurance conveyed through the symbolic characteristics of stones. Jeanne Wakatsuki
Houston was put into relocation camps along with about 110,000 just because they were of
Japanese descent. However throughout the story of her journey in Manzanarwe hear the Japanese
saying, Shikata ga nai. Jeanne and many other people in the book say this, which roughly translates
to, it cannot be helped. These people endured the imprisonment and injustice simply because they
saw that it must be endured. The stone motif in the story screams out the idea that when faced with
a challenge you must endure and let it sculpt you into the person you are.
Throughout the book when the stone motif comes into play it has a strong connection to something
a character experienced. This is first shown when Papa cries when he is playing the
Greek 2
Japanese anthem. It brings back a memory of what the song means to him. It can be a man s life.

Gran Torino Thesis Statement
A Place Where Anyone Can Succeed? I.Introduction (Intro of topic): In today s day and age it
would be very difficult to find someone who has not heard of the American dream. Although
most people have heard of the American dream, if you were to ask a couple people what the
phrase means to them, there would probably be very different responses. With all the various
interpretations of the American dream out there, it has probably become somewhat difficult to
truly understand the meaning behind the phrase. However, no film better portrays what the
American dream is than Gran Torino. Thesis: In Gran Torino, it is shown that no matter the race
or gender, anyone can be happy and successful in America, as long as they are willing to travel
down a potentially hard road and put in the work. I.(2) Sometimes on the path of achieving the
American dream it can be easy to forget what the American dream truly is, and make the mistake
of believing that wealth is what being successful truly means 1.Walt, Thao, and both of their

An Intersectional Analysis Of The Feminine Mystique
An Intersectional Analysis of The Feminine Mystique When it was first published in 1963, Betty
Friedan s The Feminine Mystique was very popular among women in the 1960s, and the ideas
presented in the book were extremely influential to second wave, liberal feminism. In The
Feminine Mystique, Friedan discusses what she believes to be the myth of the happy, suburban
housewife. She also addresses the societal pressure for women to be feminine above all else, and
gives examples as to why this pressure is harmful. She highlights the ways in which women are
taught by society that being a wife and mother will make them happier than having a career. When
educated women give up careers and other ambitions to become a stay at home mother, many find...

She gives examples of the negative effects of the emphasis on conforming to these standards, such
as women refusing medical treatment out of fear of the medicine making them unfeminine, women
eating chalk in order to lose weight, and young girls wearing bras with padding made to look like
breasts. She shows through these examples that beauty standards are damaging to young women
and girls. However, she fails to mention that these standards of beauty and femininity are often
racist as well. The standards of attractiveness for women are often Eurocentric; European or white
features are considered more beautiful than any others. Light skin, blonde hair, blue eyes, and small
button noses are all examples of attractive, feminine traits that are more commonly found in white
women. This makes standards of femininity even more harmful to women of color, who learn from
an early age that they have to look white if they want to attain beauty and femininity. This is an
important distinction that Friedan does not address, likely because she is only addressing white
women and their relationship to

Analysis Of Raymond Carver s Popular Mechanics
Raymond Carver s very short story, Popular Mechanics is seemingly set on the east coast or
somewhere that experiences cold, wintery weather. Early on it foreshadows the potential of
something bad or sad happening as it is dark inside. The couple in the story seems to be
experiencing a bit of disagreement as they are separating and the male character gathers his
belongings in preparation to leave. Unfortunately, their child was placed in the midst of the split as
it is with almost all divorces between couples who have children. Of course, both parents want
custody of their child, but they do not desire to have shared custody. The mother had caught a
glimpse of a photo of the child and hid it in hopes the father wouldn t mention them, but... Show

Today it is said that the number one cause of fights is due to finances or lack thereof. While
unfortunate, money stirs up a lot of the problems nowadays. We have become dependent on
money to survive after all it is what allows us to afford all the necessities such as food, water,
and shelter as well as newer necessities such as Wi Fi, cable, etc. when we do not have the
means to afford such thing we stress and become upset occasionally taking things out on others
thus causing fights, relationship problems, and all sorts of issues. It is possible that that was the
case in Carver s Popular Mechanics. While reading the text I could sadly make a personal
connection that I believe a lot of people with divorced parents may also be able to relate to
depending on the circumstances. When two people that have kids together split unless they split
on good terms they tend to fight about the children whether its cause they take better care of them
or whatever their argument may be in attempt to win over the child or custody of the child or
children. A lot of people not only in my generation, but every generation really have experienced
the struggles of divorced parents or broken relationships and this story really presents a
visualization for one of those many struggles. Illumination The first couple lines of Carver s story

Political Leadership And Its Importance
1. Theoretical Definition
Being a leader is a complex fate. Although contradictions and clashing expectations are part of life,
they are especially present in the exercise of leadership (Cronin and Genovese 2012, 1).
Political leadership is a broad multidimensional phenomenon that has been analyzed through various
lenses; yet there is no one concrete definition. In the following response, I will present a brief
overview of my interpretation through which I have come to understand political leadership and its
importance. Then, I will examine the relevance of the typologies and authors we have considered in
relation to political leadership.
When thinking about leadership, it is important to ask ourselves, can one measure ... Show more

Although Sandberg s framework can be useful in the business world, I find that studying
political leadership strictly from a gender based approach could be insufficient. Regardless of
his/her gender, a leader is an individual that possesses the necessary characteristics that will make
or break his/her leadership. In her book, The Power of Latino leadership, Juana Bordas offers
culture based analysis of leadership. Although her book focuses on Latino culture, I find some
of the leadership principles that she offers, relevant in trying to define political leadership. For
example, Personalismo (The Character of the Leader) is a leadership principle that explores
leaders abilities to connect with people and embody traits that will exemplify trust and respect in
relation to their followers (Bordas 2013, 8). Juntos (we are together) describes the collective and
collaborative nature of leadership (Bordas 2013, 10). The leader works hand in hand with his/her
followers to achieve the desired common end results (Bordas 2013, 10).
These two principles presented by Bordas are strongly related to James MacGregor Burns account
of transforming leadership. He describes transforming leadership as a collective process where
leaders and followers empower each other to fulfill the wants and the needs of the people (Burns
2003, 2). Burns argues that deep and durable change, guided and measured by values, is the
ultimate purpose of transforming leadership, and

Unwind Themes
Unwind written by Neal Shusterman is scoped with ideas that are very relevant in our society
today. The novel is based in the future where a child is both terminated and yet kept alive,
however in a divided state. The main themes in the novel are the right to life and the right to do
what we want with our own bodies, these ideas are in all three of the main characters lives. The
idea of the right to life is very important in today s society the reason for this is that taking away
someone s life is murder, except in our society it comes in all different forms. We have a right to
our lives! We have a right to choose what happens to our bodies Connor.
Firstly, Shusterman uses the main characters to portray the theme of the right to life. Connor
gets his life taken away from him at the age of sixteen when his parents sign his life away to be
unwind, but it wasn t his decision he didn t even know about it until he went snooping around and
found the unwind card that would take him to his death, the worst of all was that his family was
going on vacation the day after he was going to be unwind. So Connor went looking a little deeper
when his parents went out, and he found it the unwind order. this shows us that Connor s parents
didn t even have the decency to tell him and the worst thing was it was the holiday they were
planning to go on The date on the order was the day before the Bahamas trip. Shusterman used these
quotes to express that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Did Athens Grow As An Empire
After holding back the second Persian invasion during the Greco Persian war, the Spartan king
Pausanias was disgraced, and Sparta withdrew from the war (Thuc.1.95). This allowed Athens to
gain leadership in the war, and several years later, establish themselves as leaders within the Delian
League (Holland 2005: 362). Throughout the age of the Pentecontaetia (period of fifty years), the
League continued its attacks on the Persians. It is during this period that Athens established itself
as an empire. As time wore on, the Athenian Empire became more and more powerful, and it is here
that they made their first blunder, setting themselves up for a disadvantage in the Peloponnesian War
: by extending its power and subjected most of her allies in the Delian... Show more content on

Had Athens continued to earn money from the silver mines and trade, instead of collecting from
others and using the money purely for themselves, there is a possibility that they might not have
generated so much resentment. In 465 B.C, after a massive helot revolt occurred in Sparta, the city
state summoned help from all her allies, Athens included. Upon the arrival of Athens, they were
rejected entry into Sparta, while every other army was allowed to remain. Taking great offence to
this, Athens nullified their Spartan alliance. Thucydides states that Sparta chose to reject Athens
for fear that they might betray them and aid the helots (Thuc.1.102). Further aggravating the
situation, when the helots were defeated and exiled from Sparta, Athens gave them refuge and
placed them on the Corinthian Gulf, in the city of Naupactus (Thuc. 1.103). This was a critical
error on Athens part. Sparta was already angered and fearful of Athens when they decided to
rebuild their long wall, and giving refuge to the helots only further angered them. While the long
walls were crucial in Pericles strategy, they proved to be just as detrimental as they were helpful.

Montana 1948 Symbolism
The symbolism of looks can be deceiving , is a connection I found in the two films, The Dark
Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan, and Little Tombstone, directed by Fredric Azais et al, as
well as finding a connection with the novel, Montana 1948 written by Larry Watson. Through my
aspects of colour, sound, symbolism and character, it has become the foundation of my ideas that
convey my developed concept, between these three subjects. The short film, Little Tombstone has
a significant use of colour, as the film is firstly introduced with the flashes of white bullet holes,
with the supporting technique of sound; the buzzing fly, as well as old western music, already
indicating to the audience of the set of place, as well as time era. To... Show more content on

To me the three mix of colours automatically point out more death, however the set of it is more
described, with the colour white and black, as it gives off a dull, grave and quiet atmosphere.
This is supported even more with the use of no dialogue; seen as a critical communicator amongst
each of the characters. To me the Director s purpose was to show the strangeness between each
character, as each of them seemed as though none of them personally knew one another. This links
back to the film the Dark knight, in the beginning during the bank robbery, as each criminal kills
off the other for the higher reward, soon enough the Joker appears just as the priest, both seen as
the vulture letting others do their dirty work. The feel of strangeness is also related to the text
Montana 1948, as the aftermath result of Frank s death. The cemetery they made a point of

was an unbridgeable gulf between us the author s purpose was to portray the symbolism, of the

Historical Poetry Essay
Literature 115 003 April 22, 2010 Donna Craine The Hit Man s Contradiction T. Coraghessan
Boyle is a unique modern author whose work is a mixture of humor and social exploration.
Boyle seems to have a very morbid sense of humor; most of what he writes pushes the envelope
and challenges the meaning of what humor is. T. C. Boyle was born on December 2, 1948. He
grew up in a small town in Iowa and first had dreams of being a musician. To this day Boyle still
performs in a garage band and is very passionate about music. Boyle quickly realized in college
that he could not make a living from music and drifted through classes until liberal arts became his
passion. Boyle was successful in schooling from that point on, He received a Ph.D.... Show more

He responds to the Hit Man s knock, expresses surprise at the Hit Man s appearance. The Hit
Man takes Cynthia by the elbow, presses a twenty into her father s palm, and disappears into the
night. This is a very unique first date story even for the culture of the 80 s which seemed to be
more sexually open than ever before. On an average first date the male usually tries to impress
the father and gets a lecture about what time he should safely bring the daughter home. But the
Hit Man is different and Boyle creates these differences by contrasting the Hit Man to the social
norms of the eighties. The next major event of the story I find conflicting with the history of T.
C. Boyle is when the narrator skims over the death of the Hit Man s parents. The narrator only
gives this event in the Hit Man s life five lines of the story. When the Hit Man s mother is in the,
Hospital dying of cancer or heart disease, or something the Hit Man doesn t even care; he is out
shooting pool, lifting weights and drinking milk from the carton. Briefly skimming over these
events makes you believe that Boyle didn t have a good relationship with his parents. When in
fact that s quite the opposite, Boyle has always been a family man and at one point of his life he
was even employed at the same school where his mom was a secretary and his father was a janitor.

Effects Of Imagination Inflation
Imagination Inflation
Although it may seem feasible for an individual to generate an inaccurate memory of an
experienced event based on misinformation, it may not seem feasible for an individual to create a
complete false memory of an event they have never experienced; however, research has shown that
imagination can be a powerful source of false memories. In the imagination inflation effect,
performed actions versus imagined actions are confused in hindsight. Humans also have the ability
to imagine other people s behavior. (Decety Grezes, 2006).
The typical imagination inflation paradigm occurs in three phases (Sharman, Manning, Gary,
2005). During the first phase, participants complete a Life Events Inventory (LEI, Gary, Manning,
Loftus, Sherman, 1996) questionnaire suggesting the probability that they experienced certain
events as a child. The second phase is the imagining phase during which participants imagine how
and when some of the events could have transpired. The third phase involves completing a LEI
questionnaire again, and most of the time participants are informed that the original copies have
been lost. This paradigm demonstrates how participants can be manipulated into being confident
and believing that certain events occurred during their childhood, which causes them to create a
false memory (Leding 2012). Other studies support the imagination inflation paradigm by
validating that individual s confidence increases because of imagining an event (Heaps

Botox Injection In Muscles
The main goal for Botox is to block the chemical signals that are sent to cause muscle contraction.
Botox is injected in small doses into targeted muscles where there are unwanted wrinkles. With this
chemical block the muscles can no longer tighten and skin will flattens. This will give the main
goal of having less wrinkled and smoother appearance that some people desire. Botox injection
works by weakening or paralyzing certain targeted muscles and nerves in the area affected. The
exact area that the Botox paralyzes is right at the begging of muscle contraction called
neuromuscular junction.
During regular muscle contraction there are a series of steps that go along with it. The first section
of a series of step for muscle contraction, and where Botox is targeting, is called the neuromuscular
junction. The signal will start from being collected in the dendrites down to the cell body, which
then sends the message down the hillock passing through the axon. With the neuromuscular
junction it will then get that nerve impulse and transmits a message down the axon to the terminal.
When that happens the terminal opens the calcium channel to allow the calcium to enter and to

The Principles And Purpose Of Interactive Design
Search Method A wide search across the University library, Google Scholar and ACM Digital
Library and to widen the search out to popular literature from various magazines, blogs and
articles was conducted to discover information about the process of Design Thinking. To ensure
the search results were not overwhelmingly numerous, speech marks on the phrase Design
Thinking were used before entering it on the search engines. The purpose of this is to ensure
there is appropriate information returned. The books selected were Design Studies by Catherine
Stones published in 2010, [8]; The Principles Purpose of Interactive Design published by Jamie
Steane in 2014 about the different ways individuals design think [6], as well as, the book
Wicked Problems in Design Thinking by Richard Buchanan, broader understanding defining
Wicked Problem early 1992 [3]. The aim for selecting these books is because of their informative
nature and the range of dates over which they were published, which provides more information,
both quite recent and then more of a design classic from 1992 [3]. Moreover, Tim Brown

Descriptive Essay On My Dream House
My dream house is a giant mansion in the HollyWood hills. The outside is covered in marble
walls and complex designs. As you step step up to the golden gates of the property, you are
instantly greeted with the sight of a giant 50 foot building laying in front of an enormous lake.
As you approach the lake, you can see as the water moves gracefully with the warm Spring wind.
Once you approach the edge of the lake, if you look to the right you will see a massive field of
roses and many rare flowers. If turn around and walk away from the lake and move to the left of
the building you will be greeted with the sight of a giant 60 foot 200 year old palm tree with
coconuts near its top.
After you finish observing the left and back of the house, you move to the right side of the
house. Once you make the long walk from the palm tree to the right side of the beautiful
building, you will see a giant ramp flanked by walls to it s right and left side, leading to a garage
door 35 feet wide. The garage door appears to be made of some type of strong metal, titanium.
As you walk down the ramp to the door, you can see a panel on the right wall. As you approach this
panel, you will soon realize that it s the way to open the door to said garage. But you will also

Executive Summary
Qantas Groups performance over the 2007 to 2011 period has been relatively poor mainly as a
result of the global financial crisis adversely affecting the firm s international operations.
Strategically, Qantas is likely to continue to dominate the domestic airline industry with the success
of Jetstar prompting expansion into the Asia Pacific region. The most significant threats facing
Qantas include high fuel prices, the value of the Australian dollar and industrial action. A
comprehensive financial analysis reveals that compared to other airlines, Qantas is showing strong
signs of recovery despite there being inherent weaknesses in its liquidity. A review of the firm s
annual report revealed the presence of various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The airports in major cities around the world are also operated on a monopoly basis and therefore
are able to charge airlines high fees. The above examples have showed that the bargaining power of
supplies for the airline industry is considerably large and often play an important role in the
operations and level of profitability amongst the airlines.
Rivalry among the Existing Players: The level of competition between the airlines is very high.
One reason for this is the increase in popularity of low cost airlines, who employ innovative
business models to differentiate themselves and drive the profitability of their businesses. Another
reason is attributable to the nature of operation of the airlines the marginal cost of having extra
passengers on a scheduled flight is close to zero, which implies that airlines are capable of
varying the price of air tickets from time to time, or even engaging in price wars with their rivals.
For instance, the recently banned operation of Tiger Airways has created opportunity for two other
major domestic airlines in Australia, Jetstar and Virgin Blue, to increase prices in order to take
advantage of the less competitive environment and to increase their market shares.

Qantas Airways Limited is the world second oldest airline founded in 1920 which derives its
revenue from the operation of airlines and related activities. The

Stress Management For The Busy Entrepreneur
Stress Management For The Busy Entrepreneur
Being an entrepreneur may have driven you out of your home and probably has caused
misunderstandings and miscommunication between you and your family. While you may be too
focused on making your business to become successful, you are losing your family and friends, and
even yourself. Entrepreneurs have a huge burden to carry once they start putting up the business
because it can demand so much time and energy that could drain them eventually. Any startup
business will require long hours of work to the point of even bringing home some of the tasks for
the day.
An entrepreneur is expected to be hardworking, brave and intelligent. After all, if one has a weak
heart in facing all the trials in a business, then the business will never succeed. But sometimes,
having to deal with the same things over and over can just make your brain shut down from
functioning properly, thus, you lose the ability to solve problems, to rationally think and to make
decisions. When this happens, it will be difficult for you to see how things really are. Does it sound
familiar?
Work related stress is costing the economy a huge amount of money in a year where there is an
increase in the number of deaths each year due to workplace stress. Such health conditions are a
heart attack, stroke, diabetes, anxiety, and depression. Should people work to live or live to work?

Crooks Essay
How does Steinbeck present the character of Crooks?
In the novel Of Mice and Men , the character of Crooks is used by John Steinbeck, the author, to
symbolise the downgrading of the black community occurring at the time in which the novel was
set. Crooks is also significant as he provides an insight into the reality of the American Dream and
the feelings of the people in the ranch; their loneliness and need for company.
Steinbeck presents Crooks as a victim of racism and throughout the book, he is called by the
name nigger . Being black, Crooks is hated on the ranch. Ya see, the stable buck s a nigger . The
use of this word dehumanises Crooks and shows how black people at the time, had no rights at all.
He also says, If I say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steinbeck also writes, Crooks said sharply and the word sharply supports this idea because it
shows it is an immediate reaction to the intrusion. It is also like a defence mechanism as he feels
slightly paranoid about what is about to happen. He lets Lennie in his room eventually but he
continues to torment him, his voice grew soft and persuasive . Crooks tries to use persuasive
language in order to insult Lennie and take advantage of his condition. Sp ose George don t
come back no more(...)what ll you do then? Crooks takes the chance to fight back from how he
has been tortured in the past. He also wanted to make Lennie feel how he has been feeling for
most of his life; lonely and isolated. Yet Lennie tries to fight back and Crooks gets scared and tries
to carm him down.
Crooks is also presented as powerless, as previously discussed it is perhaps this lack of power
that leads to his bitterness. One quote shows how Curley s wife threatens him and Crooks sits
down and doesn t fight back, Crooks had reduced himself to nothing. There was no personality, no
ego nothing to arouse either like or dislike . Steinbeck tries to use metaphorical language to show
that Crooks doesn t want to be seen and that he fears for himself. It also shows that he is at the
bottom of the social hierarchy mainly because he is the only black person on the ranch. The
repetition of the word no and nothing

King Philip Regime and Government in Paris 1200 by John W....
King Philip Regime and Government In the novel, Paris 1200 by John W. Baldwin, King Philip
(Philip Augustus), was an important contributor to the growth of the French Monarchy. He was
able to increase the Monarchy better then any other King before him. He defeated many
enemies, sought to overtake the British crown and embarked on a third crusade. King Philip
Augustus brought financial stability to the country and was very popular amongst his subjects.
King Philip when assigned King had many goals to achieve to make his Kingdom the most
powerful. He changed the political structure to better suit these goals and allow for a better
transition with his changes. King Philip Augustus had different relationships, good and bad,
with the Catholic Church, the Parisian Elite and England. Philip II, starting at such a young age,
had high expectations for the development of the Kingdom. Philip Augustus was the late son of
King Louis VII and it was a miracle that King Louis VII could bear a son so late in his regime.
His birth at Paris on 21 August 1165 was the occasion of exceptional rejoicing for his parents,
and for the Parisian population because it brought long years of anxiety to a close (Baldwin 71).
The country finally felt secure knowing there was a male hair in line to rule the Kingdom. King
Philip was the son of Louis VII and Alix de Champagne. He was born in Paris and spent as much
time as possible in the capital area. His father planned to associate Philip with him on the

In the accounting world, one s qualifications, expertise, and reputations are extremely important
aspects and should all be taken into consideration when choosing a firm.
Larger (often National or international) CPA firms have acquired many smaller firms. Why might a
large organization consider purchasing an accounting firm such as Abernethy and Chapman? Why
might Abernethy and Chapman agree to be acquired? Are such mergers good for the auditing
profession, generally speaking?
Abernethy and Chapman are desirable because they have a steady clientele and continue to
generate revenues leaving them with a net income that is favorable. Often companies will merge
with another company in an effort to avoid bankruptcy, consolidate services, or expand. Over the
years, we ve seen many big name firms merge with others. Acquisitions and mergers are
becoming a trend due to the number of partner retirements and the lack of succession plans.
(Sinkin and Putney, 2013) Firms such as Abernethy and Chapman might agree to an acquisition
because it is often the most cost effective way for them to increase cash flow and continue to be
successful. Mergers can either be a success or a failure. When you merge organizations, you are
also merging personalities which can often lead to conflict; however, merging the different levels
of expertise could be beneficial to a firm. Ultimately, I believe that merging firms will create

Humanization Of Animals In The Priest s Tale
The Nun s Priest s Tale is one of the best and loved tale of all of the Tales, and the genre that
Chaucer uses in his tale is beast fable, which is one of Chaucer s successors. The narrator
focuses mostly on the relationship between human and animal telling those who find animals
tales meaningless or without a purpose, neglecting the tale itself. Chaucer takes us on a journey
to explore in great detail how animals can be humanized. In other words, how an animal can
represent a human moral even if it is in a tale. The Nun s Priest s Tale is considered a merry tale
for many people, but it is ultimately not a straightforward merry tale after all. Therefore, the main
purpose of this story is to teach us a great lesson to be aware of the dangers of flattery about

No Fault Divorce On Equal Footing
No fault divorce has allowed women and men (and more recently, same sex couples) the option to
end their marriage simply because they no longer want to be married. However, this presents new
legal questions which need to be answered. The courts must determine alimony, or spousal support.
After a marriage, one spouse might need to support the other based on length of the marriage,
difference in incomes or lost earning potential. However, determining a fair way to allocate alimony
is an important issues to ensure both partners come out of the marriage on equal footing.
Establishing new guidelines for alimony is critical to ensuring that there is equality at the end
of a marriage. Marriage in our country is changing along with our culture and society. Obergefell
v Hodges opened marriage to people of all sexual orientations, allowing all to marry who they
wish, regardless of sex. Additionally, the amount of people who are married is declining. In
2013, just half of American adults were married, compared to 72% in 1960 (Pew). Since our
society as a whole has been reconsidering marriage, we should also consider how marriages end
and what factors should be considered when distributing assets, alimony and child support. Right
now, trial courts are allowed discretion in determining alimony and the factors considered vary
wildly across all fifty states (Rhode 2014; 76 77). This means there is no guarantee for women or
men seeking support. This issue impacts women in particular,

Banks also play an integral role in society, affecting not only spending by individual consumers, but

Gifts under Muslim Law and the Requirement of Registration:
An analysis of Legal Provisions and the Case Law
Faizan I Nazar*
I. Introduction
Registration of some classes of documents is compulsorily required under the various statutes like
Transfer of Property Act, Contract Act etc. The (Jammu and Kashmir) Registration Act, Svt 1970
(1922 A.D) is a specific Legislation which under section 17 enumerates the documents which have
been compulsorily registered under the Act. The first class of document which is enumerated under
clause (a) sub section (1) of section 17 of the Registration Act (hereinafter referred as the Act ) is an

V. Fakhr Jahan Begum and Others referred to Muhammadan law by Syed Ameer Ali and
approved the statement made therein that three conditions are necessary for a valid gift by a
Muslim: a) Manifestation of the wish to give on the part of donor ; b) The acceptance of the
donee , either impliedly or expressly; c) The taking of possession of the subject matter of the gift by
the donee, either actually or constructively.
According to section 129 of the Transfer of Property Act no rule of Mohamedan law shall be
affected by chapter VII of the Transfer of Property Act relating to gifts. It, therefore, follows that
an oral gift made by a Muslim is a valid gift and does not require registration, which otherwise is
not a valid gift under section 123 of the Transfer of Property Act.
In the context of sec.17 (1) (a) the pertinent question is about the applicability of the clause (a) to
written gift executed by a Muslim in the light of section 129 of the Transfer of Property Act and
the rules of Muslim law relating to gifts. The courts for a long time obscured the answer.
In Sankesula Chinna Budde Saheb v. Raja Subbamma, the Andhra Pradesh High Court, after
noticing three essentials of gift under the Muslim law, held that if a gift was reduced to writing, it
requires registration under section 17(1) (a) of the Registration Act. It went on to hold that even if
by virtue of section 129 of the Transfer of Property Act, a deed of gift

All the social business visionaries we met made it clear that the greatest obstacle for them is the

Analyse Key Theories Of Conflict Analysis
I aim to analyse key theories which examine the effects of conflict within the workplace. Conflict
is a part of everyday life, as long as we have existed conflict has also. Rahim (2010) defines conflict
as an interactive process manifested in incompatibility, disagreement or dissonance within or
between social entities. However, he expands upon the definition stating debating as to whether the
conflictis caused by the situation or the individuals type of behaviour. This contests the issue of
whether conflict is caused by a particular situation that the employee has experienced or if whether
the behaviourism of the employee is to blame. If organisational conflict is not resolved, several
negative consequences can occur including increased stress among employees, reduced creative
collaboration and team problem solving, disruption to work flow, decreased customer satisfaction,
distrust, split camps, and create gossip amongst the workplace. (Moriarty, 2007).
However, in contrast some academics dispute this, even going as far as suggesting that minor
conflicts can be helpful, and by having the capabilities to deal with conflict ... Show more content

This will allow critical reflection and analysis as to what could be done differently. There are
several key fundamental concepts involved with the unitarist perspective. The first of which is that
it is the duty of the manager to encourage allegiance and commitment amongst the employees of the
firm. (Farnham, 1993). Consequently, as everyone is working towards the same goal a conflict of
interests is unlikely to occur, resulting in harmony amongst the entire workforce. (Leah, 2001).
Conflicts in the organisations are observed as negative and dysfunctional which subsequently lead
to disloyalty, thereby damaging the well being and harmony of the organisation. (Giles,

how the price changes by a unit change in any variable, keeping rest of the variables constant.
The output shows that cut, polish and certification have t stats and corresponding p values that are
considerably greater than 0.05 (significance level). A stepwise regression drops these variables,
indicating that they are not a good fit for the model (Appendix).
One reason might be that the scatterplot of price vs. carat shows observations being clumped;
representing the three different wholesalers (Appendix). Making inferences on this scatterplot
shows that wholesaler 3 carries diamonds in the range of $160 to $665, significantly lower than
the total range. These observations might lead to inaccurate prediction of the effect of predictor
variables on price. Also, it can be seen from the scatterplot that wholesaler 1 deals in diamonds
falling under a very small interval of $3000 to $3091, while the ones from wholesaler 2 fall in the
range of $1856 to $3145.
As a result, this paper makes an assumption that only data from wholesalers 1 and 2 will fit the
model best, in terms of finding the correct diamond for the professor.
2. Partial Level Level Model (Carat):
Considering the assumption made above, the next model regresses price on all the variables, but
only for diamonds from wholesalers 1 and 2. It

Essay on Stefan Sagmeister, an Influential Designer
Libby Castellani Holly Vaughn GRA 1109C 17 October 2012 Stefan Sagmeister: An Influential
Designer In today s art world there seems to be a large gap that separates fine art from
commercial art. Often there is a disconnected coldness associated with those who work in
communications art and produce art for clients. As if all emotion and feeling is stripped from
commercial artwork merely because it was created with the intention of pleasing a client. Stefan
Sagmeister bridges the gap in the art industry by redefining commercial design as a personal,
emotional, and deep art. While Sagmeister s work encompasses a vast spectrum of mediums such

tattoos (Heller amp; Vienne, 10). The scratches in his body display the details of the lecture as
well as Sagmeister s words pertaining to his philosophy on design, Style=Fart. This philosophy,
which he has now put to rest, translates as his conscious effort to not get wrapped up in fashion
statements or trends; design that is defined by a temporary style is meaningless (Designboom).
Sagmeister explains why he relinquished the philosophy in an interview with Designboom: I
discovered that this is simply not true.
Through experience I found that if you have content that

worthwhile the proper expression of that content, in terms of
 form and style is actually
very important. It can be a very
useful tool to communicate that content (Designboom). Stefan
Sagmeister also has two published books under his design belt (Sagmeister). Made You Look,
Sagmeister s first book was published in 2001

Shifting Narrative Perspective In Wild Thorns By Sahar...
In the novel, Wild Thorns, written by Sahar Khalifeh there are a number of examples of shifting
narrative perspective, which helps Sahar Khalifeh give a more balanced description and view of
the Occupation for the reader. Sahar Khlaifeh conveys shifting narrative perpective through
dialogue and internal monologue. In particular we see different and conflicting views on the
Occupation between Usama and Adil, who are both cousins, with a conflicting relationship. The
dialogue between the two characters provide the two different perspectives, we are able to see the
internal thinking of both characters and see how this influences our view on the Occupation. Also,
the use of shifting narrative perspective by the writer helps give the reader a better... Show more

All culture gone! All integrity gone! Sink, Palestine... (pg 69). In this example Usama expresses his
opinion on the Occupation and the lack of effort shown by Adil to do something about the change
in the Occupation. There are more examples of exclamatory statements, which helps show the
reader the opposing opinions towards the Occupation. All culture gone! All integrity gone! This
example really puts emphasis on the fact that there is disagreement and disgust from Usama
towards the Occupation. Sahar Khalifeh uses exclamatory statements well in this novel to show
characters opinions. Another example of internal thoughts are shown, this time with Adil, adil was
looking at him in digust! . In this part of the text it refers to Adil looking at Usama in disgust. This
is very useful in showing that both characters have conflict between each other which is based on
the Occupation and the contrasting opinions from each other. However, through the use of internal
monologue we can see the different views on the same situation. Theres more than one dimension to
the picture . This is a qoutation which I used frequently

Baroque Music Essay
Due to the fact that Baroque keyboards generally lack the ability to make crescendos and
diminuendos, music played on these instruments sound very boring and straight forward unless
elements are added to the performance. For organ and harpsichord, the player cannot change
dynamics once the registration is chosen. A decent performance of Baroque music, no matter on a
Baroque or a modern day keyboard, relies very much on the variety of touch to sound interesting. I
would therefore like to discuss some crucial concepts that guides keyboard players on how to
effectively control the touch and attack of the keys with correct posture and movement. Friedrich
Wilhelm Marpurg, a German music critic and composer in the 18th century, wrote that It is true that
there are passages that can be fingered in more than one way. But of all these ways, there is always
one which is more suitable to these passages than any other. One should therefore choose among the
good position. Then, between these different possible positions, one must choose the one that
makes the least movement. This highlights the importance of limited movement in the body and
the arm at that period of time, opposing the modern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the fact that the black notes on the pedal board being nearer to the organ bench than it is

cause the music created to be unstable. Therefore, all of the pedal notes are generally played with
toes only. As mentioned previously, notes that are next to each other can be played with the same
finger to create natural articulation, the same principal applies with playing with the toe of one
foot only. Compared to organs built recently, it is easier to pedal historical organs with toe only
because the pedals are not only shorter in length but they also have higher benches which makes

Impact Of Disaster On The World
Impacts of Disaster It was just a normal day for me. I followed my daily routine. I woke up, had
breakfast and was ready to prepare for my finals. Just when I was planning tomorrow s schedule,
suddenly, I felt a jolt. My whole body trembled and before I could figure out what was going on,
books started to fall from my shelves and pictures hanging on the walls started falling. When I
looked out of my window, the surrounding area was filled with dirt and smoke. I saw people
running in the middle of the road to save themselves from that disaster. Immediately I ran outside
of my room. Just like myself, my parents and my brother were also running for their life. On the
way, my father lead us towards the back of our house, where there was some empty space to protect
ourselves from the disaster. I had just experienced a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake. I have
never thoughtthat a high magnitude earthquake would ever come in this way. Literally, the whole
thing was shaking heavily. Even when we were observing from outside, the TV antenna on the top
of my house was still shaking. The high magnitude earthquake lasting for long time only lead to
one thing: enormous devastation of my city. All the things happening around me was like in the
2012 movie. Collapsing tall buildings, and temples along with death of numerous number of
peoples really shocked me. It was difficult for me to figure out what was going on around that field.

Cannibalism And Ansazi Civilization Summary
The key or lead figure and researcher for the Cannibalism and Anasazi Civilization , was Dr.
Christy Turner (1933 2013). Dr. Turner was an anthropologist, who also taught classes at ASU
(Arizona State University). When Dr. Turner passed away in July of 2013 ASU made a touching
statement on their former employee, Turner was a prolific and influential researcher for more than
40 years. (ASU: In memory) ASU also stated Dr. Turner had, His broad interests spanned the world

Dr. Christy Turner is known for unveiling the acts of cannibalism that had taken place in the
Anasazi civilization. According to an article in the LA Times, Dr. Turner had looked over 76
sites previously excavated in 1893. These sites had shown signs of violence and possibly
cannibalism. According to Dr. Turner 38 out of the 76 sites, majority in the 90 mile radius from the
Four Corners area, approximately 286 people had been butchered and eaten. (LA Times: http:/

that no one wants to believe that someone could do that to another person. Especially, from the
Hopi nation. The Hopi nation stated, arguing that the claim of cannibalism is a slanderous stain on
their ancestors. (LA Times:

A Study On Congenital Visual Agnosia And Prosopagnosia
Case Study: Congenital Visual Agnosia and Prosopagnosia in a Child
In this paper I will be doing a literature review and evaluating the case study of a particular
younger patient with Congenital Visual Agnosia and Prosopagnosia. Visual agnosia is the
impairment of the recognition of different object stimuli, which cannot be explained by other
sensory losses (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). There is said to be two different classifications or types of
diagnosed visual agnosia, associate and appreciative agnosia (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). Appreciative
agnosia is caused by perseptual impartments, and associative agnosia can be cause by multiple
different conditions that cause the loss of object recognition, and don t really seem to be
associated with no other extreme visual impairments (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). In this case the child
appears to have a case of associative developmental agnosia.
Congenital Visual Agnosiain this particular child s case, was not cause by anything affecting a
visual perceptual system that was normal (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). Instead, in this particular case the
child had visual system that was developed abnormally since birth (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). It is also
mentioned in this case study that this particular case of congenital visual agnosia is important for
research in understanding both agnosia in children but also how object recognition systems should
develop normally (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). In this particular case study the child they are looking at was

The Benefits of the Atkins Diet Essay
The Benefits of the Atkins Diet
The Atkins diet has been attacked in recent years and been accused of being a fad diet that does not
successfully cause weight loss and is the causes of health problems. The most criticized area of the
Atkins diet is the seemingly unlimited amount of fat and meat that is allowed within the diet. This
unconventional method of weight loss is the center of the animosity towards the Atkins diet.
Though this diet may not be the best method of weight loss for all dieters, it is beneficial and
extremely efficient for others. The Atkins diet is the best choice for dieters looking to lose a few
superficial pounds quickly because dieters on the Atkins diet lose more weight within 3 6 months
and do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The high fat content of the diet has caused many opponents of the Atkins diet to jump to the
conclusion that it must cause heart disease. This has been found to be completely untrue. In fact,
research from the New England Journal of Medicine found that several heart disease indicators
actually improved for those on the Atkins diet. They found an increase in serum triglyceride levels
and serum HDL (the good cholesterol) that was greater than those on the low fat diets. They also
found that both diets saw similar decreases in LDL (the bad cholesterol). Therefore, those on the
Atkins diet had a higher increase in good cholesterol that benefits the heart and the same amount of
reduction in bad cholesterol as the low fat diet. Though it would seem intuitively correct to assume
that a diet that is high in fat would cause heart disease, studies have proven that the Atkins diet is
actually beneficial to the heart.
In addition to being beneficial to the heart, the Atkins diet is very successful in losing weight
compared to low fat diets. Several studies have found that after six months those on the low
carbohydrate diets (like the Atkins diet) lost 3.9 kilograms (8.6 pounds) more weight than the low
fat diet group. However, these same studies found that after the participants were on the diets for
twelve months, there was no significant difference in the amount of weight that was lost. This
supports the idea that the Atkins diet is better for

Review of UKSports Anti-Doping Policy Essay
The two major justifications for the ban on the use of performance enhancing drugs in sport relate
to the protection of the health of athletes, and the maintenance of fair competition
(Black, 1996; as cited by Waddington, 2000)
The main objective of the U.K. Statement of the Anti doping Policy stems from this. The aim is to
ensure that the various governing bodies of sport in the United Kingdom have consistent and regular
sets of policies and regulations in order to protect the rights of athletes to compete drug free (U.K.
Statement of Anti doping Policy). This policy, (January 2002) published by U.K. Sport, was

UK Sport s role is also clearly defined in the policy. UK Sport will have to agree an annual anti
doping programme, consisting of testing (where appropriate), education and information, with the
Governing Bodies and also assist with its delivery. They will have to guarantee the confidentiality
of information arising from programmes except where it is required, in order to provide
transparency and accountability for public funding and the integrity of the testing programme.
UK Sport will also report to the designated official, within the Governing Body, both negative and
positive test outcomes, within an agreed timeframe. Again, they will assist, as required, with the
provision of information to the review, investigative hearing or appeal panels. Training
workshops will be provided for Governing Bodies, on operational and legal issues. Governing
Bodies will also have to be supported with advice and guidance, from the Anti Doping
Programme, team to achieve programme delivery arising from the policy. Supporting, independent
advice on complex scientific or medical issues will also be provided by UK Sport, who will also
promote an independent dispute resolution system for sport. Finally, UK Sport will have to
continue independent, high quality collection services, as well as assisting Governing Bodies with
the monitoring and reporting of results.
Furthermore, according to the policy, Sports Councils have the power to withdraw funding from

Benefits of Technology Incorporation into a Classroom Setting
Today, our society is more technologically advanced than it has ever been, and our schools have
become more technologically progressive over the past few years, but does having technology in

Democracy and Education stated If we teach today s students as we taught yesterday s, we rob them
of tomorrow. Integrating technologyinto classrooms is not only essential in preparing the students
for the future, but it is also an effective teaching method. Many surveys and studies have been

For example, give a brief description of technological manner in a classroom, allow usage during
non test days for note taking and the penalty of a reduced participation if the technology proves
distracting to the student or his/her peers (Jackson). Another way to ensure that the students are not
misusing the technology is for the teachers to teach the students how to get the most out of it. Most
devices can be connected to the internet and there are almost an infinite number of things that you
can do, see, and use while on there, but if the students spend their time doing assignments, projects
and learning new skills the likelihood of them misusing it will decrease significantly.
Applications on hand held devices such as tablets and iPads have made learning more fun for
students. An app was created for students 8 years or younger, where they can learn early reading
skills such as basic sight words, and they can practice writing and grammar skills while creating
their own interactive stories (Pilgrim, Bledsoe and Reily). Mathematics apps focus on beginning
concepts of math number sense and include diagnostic games to determine the instructional level
of each student. The apps are also available for more advanced concepts. Science apps can do

Good And Evil In Mccarthy s Blood Meridian
It is evident, even in the first few pages of this novel, that evil plays a huge role in Blood
Meridian. On the first page of this book, McCarthy says ...in him broods already a taste for
mindless violence (3). So right from the start, the kids mind was set on evil, not good. There is a
similarity in that sentence with the Christian faith. Christians believe that from the very start of
human life, everyone has an evilnature. No one is born without sin. The whole reason for needing
a Savior is because of man s evil nature. People will search far and wide for something to make
them feel whole. Until they find Christ, they will not be fully satisfied. This thought can parallel
with everything that the Kid has done. From the start, he had evil intentions in his mind. He
searched for someone or something to take that out upon. He found the judge and Glanton, who
assisted him in expressing his feelings (the evil and hatred) through violence. He latched on to those
who carried his same thoughts and began to act just... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

men have no reason to be killing anymore, yet they never stop. Their evilness slowly overtook
them. They are now so engrossed in killing, that even if they wanted to find a way out, they
probably could not. In Christianity, this is where the Savior comes in. When you are knee deep in

The Cohort Component Method For Many State And Local...
3.5 Cohort Component Method
One way to Project an area s population is the cohort component method, which is used for many
state and local governments. This method offers in depth demographic statistics on why and how
the population changes. There are 2 steps in this method. The first is to separate the population into
groups of age and sex. The second step is to implement fertility, mortality, and migration rates to
each distinct group. There are some things that have to be taken into account for this method
before computing anything. The first is that all of the age groups have to be the same in that the
years in the cohorts (n) are matching. The second is that the amount of years in the projection
intervals (z) should identify with the number of years in the cohorts (n). The last one is that all the
rates used in this model have to be altered to show five year projection periods.
3.5.1 The Mortality Component
The first thing we do is calculate the female population likely to survive until the year 2005. There
are two things that can happen which rely on the age specific survival rate (nsrx). The populations
for females in the initial year which is 2000 (nFx 2000) can move in the start of 2005 to the
following age cohort (n SFx+z 2005) or will live from 2000 to 2005 (n DFx 2000 2005). The first
calculation is to multiply the launch year of the female population in 2000 by its age specific
survival rate. n SFx+z 2005 =( nFx 2000 )( nsrx )
nFx 2000 is the female

  • 2. Ship Of Fools Case Study Founded in 1880, the site of Kyle, Texas, was selected based on the location of the nearby International Great Northern Railroad route. By 1890, the population had grown to almost 800, and in 2010, there were more than 28,000 people residing in Kyle. Despite its explosive growth, most of the property owners in Kyle remain committed to maintaining their properties to ensure that the city retains its quaint charm. This includes maintaining the asphalt pavement found on many city streets, parking lots and residential driveways and for more than three decades, Alpha Paving has been helping them with their asphalt installation, repair and maintenance needs. Whether they need new pavement, sealcoating or crack repairs, the people in Kyle know that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New asphalt pavement should have sealant applied within the first year following installation. Depending on traffic volume and vehicle weights, sealant will need to be applied every two or three years to ensure maximum protection. Sealcoating guards against sun damage as well as damage caused by petroleum based automotive fluids. It also revitalizes the color of asphalt that has faded. Have any breaks in the pavement repaired quickly. Cracks, deep cuts and potholes can let water drain beneath the pavement and erode the foundation. Once the foundation has become eroded and unstable, the pavement loses its ability to flex under load and extensive cracking can occur. Make parking lots safer and more attractive by having fresh paint applied to mark parking spaces, crosswalks, loading zones, travel directions, exits, handicapped parking spaces and fire lanes. If an aging pavement has become unsightly, check to see if it can be salvaged with an overlay before committing to a total replacement. If the foundation is stable, it might be cost effective to choose an overlay, which is a course of asphalt applied to existing pavement. Why Choose Alpha ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Farewell To Manzanar Analysis These days most people don t realize that we need to accept what s happening in our lives and just look to the light at the end of the tunnel. Sean McCabe, web designer, lettering guru, and successful entrepreneur says, Endurance is the price tag to achievement. In Farewell to Manzanar we see a motif of endurance conveyed through the symbolic characteristics of stones. Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston was put into relocation camps along with about 110,000 just because they were of Japanese descent. However throughout the story of her journey in Manzanarwe hear the Japanese saying, Shikata ga nai. Jeanne and many other people in the book say this, which roughly translates to, it cannot be helped. These people endured the imprisonment and injustice simply because they saw that it must be endured. The stone motif in the story screams out the idea that when faced with a challenge you must endure and let it sculpt you into the person you are. Throughout the book when the stone motif comes into play it has a strong connection to something a character experienced. This is first shown when Papa cries when he is playing the Greek 2 Japanese anthem. It brings back a memory of what the song means to him. It can be a man s life. (91) Jeanne said. ... • 6. Gran Torino Thesis Statement A Place Where Anyone Can Succeed? I.Introduction (Intro of topic): In today s day and age it would be very difficult to find someone who has not heard of the American dream. Although most people have heard of the American dream, if you were to ask a couple people what the phrase means to them, there would probably be very different responses. With all the various interpretations of the American dream out there, it has probably become somewhat difficult to truly understand the meaning behind the phrase. However, no film better portrays what the American dream is than Gran Torino. Thesis: In Gran Torino, it is shown that no matter the race or gender, anyone can be happy and successful in America, as long as they are willing to travel down a potentially hard road and put in the work. I.(2) Sometimes on the path of achieving the American dream it can be easy to forget what the American dream truly is, and make the mistake of believing that wealth is what being successful truly means 1.Walt, Thao, and both of their families seem to care primarily about material possessions 2.Walt primarily cares about his car, a material possession which also represents the American dream. a. The American pragmatist, he fixes things as well as finishes things. He spends a lifetime accumulating the tools in his garage, material goods, naming them and knowing how they work (Alpert) 3. • 7. An Intersectional Analysis Of The Feminine Mystique An Intersectional Analysis of The Feminine Mystique When it was first published in 1963, Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique was very popular among women in the 1960s, and the ideas presented in the book were extremely influential to second wave, liberal feminism. In The Feminine Mystique, Friedan discusses what she believes to be the myth of the happy, suburban housewife. She also addresses the societal pressure for women to be feminine above all else, and gives examples as to why this pressure is harmful. She highlights the ways in which women are taught by society that being a wife and mother will make them happier than having a career. When educated women give up careers and other ambitions to become a stay at home mother, many find... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She gives examples of the negative effects of the emphasis on conforming to these standards, such as women refusing medical treatment out of fear of the medicine making them unfeminine, women eating chalk in order to lose weight, and young girls wearing bras with padding made to look like breasts. She shows through these examples that beauty standards are damaging to young women and girls. However, she fails to mention that these standards of beauty and femininity are often racist as well. The standards of attractiveness for women are often Eurocentric; European or white features are considered more beautiful than any others. Light skin, blonde hair, blue eyes, and small button noses are all examples of attractive, feminine traits that are more commonly found in white women. This makes standards of femininity even more harmful to women of color, who learn from an early age that they have to look white if they want to attain beauty and femininity. This is an important distinction that Friedan does not address, likely because she is only addressing white women and their relationship to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of Raymond Carver s Popular Mechanics Raymond Carver s very short story, Popular Mechanics is seemingly set on the east coast or somewhere that experiences cold, wintery weather. Early on it foreshadows the potential of something bad or sad happening as it is dark inside. The couple in the story seems to be experiencing a bit of disagreement as they are separating and the male character gathers his belongings in preparation to leave. Unfortunately, their child was placed in the midst of the split as it is with almost all divorces between couples who have children. Of course, both parents want custody of their child, but they do not desire to have shared custody. The mother had caught a glimpse of a photo of the child and hid it in hopes the father wouldn t mention them, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today it is said that the number one cause of fights is due to finances or lack thereof. While unfortunate, money stirs up a lot of the problems nowadays. We have become dependent on money to survive after all it is what allows us to afford all the necessities such as food, water, and shelter as well as newer necessities such as Wi Fi, cable, etc. when we do not have the means to afford such thing we stress and become upset occasionally taking things out on others thus causing fights, relationship problems, and all sorts of issues. It is possible that that was the case in Carver s Popular Mechanics. While reading the text I could sadly make a personal connection that I believe a lot of people with divorced parents may also be able to relate to depending on the circumstances. When two people that have kids together split unless they split on good terms they tend to fight about the children whether its cause they take better care of them or whatever their argument may be in attempt to win over the child or custody of the child or children. A lot of people not only in my generation, but every generation really have experienced the struggles of divorced parents or broken relationships and this story really presents a visualization for one of those many struggles. • 9. Political Leadership And Its Importance 1. Theoretical Definition Being a leader is a complex fate. Although contradictions and clashing expectations are part of life, they are especially present in the exercise of leadership (Cronin and Genovese 2012, 1). Political leadership is a broad multidimensional phenomenon that has been analyzed through various lenses; yet there is no one concrete definition. In the following response, I will present a brief overview of my interpretation through which I have come to understand political leadership and its importance. Then, I will examine the relevance of the typologies and authors we have considered in relation to political leadership. When thinking about leadership, it is important to ask ourselves, can one measure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Sandberg s framework can be useful in the business world, I find that studying political leadership strictly from a gender based approach could be insufficient. Regardless of his/her gender, a leader is an individual that possesses the necessary characteristics that will make or break his/her leadership. In her book, The Power of Latino leadership, Juana Bordas offers culture based analysis of leadership. Although her book focuses on Latino culture, I find some of the leadership principles that she offers, relevant in trying to define political leadership. For example, Personalismo (The Character of the Leader) is a leadership principle that explores leaders abilities to connect with people and embody traits that will exemplify trust and respect in relation to their followers (Bordas 2013, 8). Juntos (we are together) describes the collective and collaborative nature of leadership (Bordas 2013, 10). The leader works hand in hand with his/her followers to achieve the desired common end results (Bordas 2013, 10). These two principles presented by Bordas are strongly related to James MacGregor Burns account of transforming leadership. He describes transforming leadership as a collective process where leaders and followers empower each other to fulfill the wants and the needs of the people (Burns 2003, 2). Burns argues that deep and durable change, guided and measured by values, is the ultimate purpose of transforming leadership, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Why Did Athens Grow As An Empire After holding back the second Persian invasion during the Greco Persian war, the Spartan king Pausanias was disgraced, and Sparta withdrew from the war (Thuc.1.95). This allowed Athens to gain leadership in the war, and several years later, establish themselves as leaders within the Delian League (Holland 2005: 362). Throughout the age of the Pentecontaetia (period of fifty years), the League continued its attacks on the Persians. It is during this period that Athens established itself as an empire. As time wore on, the Athenian Empire became more and more powerful, and it is here that they made their first blunder, setting themselves up for a disadvantage in the Peloponnesian War : by extending its power and subjected most of her allies in the Delian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Had Athens continued to earn money from the silver mines and trade, instead of collecting from others and using the money purely for themselves, there is a possibility that they might not have generated so much resentment. In 465 B.C, after a massive helot revolt occurred in Sparta, the city state summoned help from all her allies, Athens included. Upon the arrival of Athens, they were rejected entry into Sparta, while every other army was allowed to remain. Taking great offence to this, Athens nullified their Spartan alliance. Thucydides states that Sparta chose to reject Athens for fear that they might betray them and aid the helots (Thuc.1.102). Further aggravating the situation, when the helots were defeated and exiled from Sparta, Athens gave them refuge and placed them on the Corinthian Gulf, in the city of Naupactus (Thuc. 1.103). This was a critical error on Athens part. Sparta was already angered and fearful of Athens when they decided to rebuild their long wall, and giving refuge to the helots only further angered them. While the long walls were crucial in Pericles strategy, they proved to be just as detrimental as they were helpful. What occurred was that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Montana 1948 Symbolism The symbolism of looks can be deceiving , is a connection I found in the two films, The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan, and Little Tombstone, directed by Fredric Azais et al, as well as finding a connection with the novel, Montana 1948 written by Larry Watson. Through my aspects of colour, sound, symbolism and character, it has become the foundation of my ideas that convey my developed concept, between these three subjects. The short film, Little Tombstone has a significant use of colour, as the film is firstly introduced with the flashes of white bullet holes, with the supporting technique of sound; the buzzing fly, as well as old western music, already indicating to the audience of the set of place, as well as time era. To me the three mix of colours automatically point out more death, however the set of it is more described, with the colour white and black, as it gives off a dull, grave and quiet atmosphere. This is supported even more with the use of no dialogue; seen as a critical communicator amongst each of the characters. To me the Director s purpose was to show the strangeness between each character, as each of them seemed as though none of them personally knew one another. This links back to the film the Dark knight, in the beginning during the bank robbery, as each criminal kills off the other for the higher reward, soon enough the Joker appears just as the priest, both seen as the vulture letting others do their dirty work. The feel of strangeness is also related to the text Montana 1948, as the aftermath result of Frank s death. The cemetery they made a point of standing on opposite side of the grave from us. Even I understood the symbolism: Frank s death was an unbridgeable gulf between us the author s purpose was to portray the symbolism, of the indifferent perception of deceit, as Julian had hard reasons to believe Wes had done this too his brother through jealousy, whereas Wes s perception, was to always obey to the law, a moral that he could not ... Coraghessan Boyle is a unique modern author whose work is a mixture of humor and social exploration. Boyle seems to have a very morbid sense of humor; most of what he writes pushes the envelope and challenges the meaning of what humor is. T. C. Boyle was born on December 2, 1948. He grew up in a small town in Iowa and first had dreams of being a musician. To this day Boyle still performs in a garage band and is very passionate about music. This is a very unique first date story even for the culture of the 80 s which seemed to be more sexually open than ever before. On an average first date the male usually tries to impress the father and gets a lecture about what time he should safely bring the daughter home. But the Hit Man is different and Boyle creates these differences by contrasting the Hit Man to the social norms of the eighties. The next major event of the story I find conflicting with the history of T. C. Boyle is when the narrator skims over the death of the Hit Man s parents. The narrator only gives this event in the Hit Man s life five lines of the story. When the Hit Man s mother is in the, Hospital dying of cancer or heart disease, or something the Hit Man doesn t even care; he is out shooting pool, lifting weights and drinking milk from the carton. Effects Of Imagination Inflation Imagination Inflation Although it may seem feasible for an individual to generate an inaccurate memory of an experienced event based on misinformation, it may not seem feasible for an individual to create a complete false memory of an event they have never experienced; however, research has shown that imagination can be a powerful source of false memories. In the imagination inflation effect, performed actions versus imagined actions are confused in hindsight. Humans also have the ability to imagine other people s behavior. (Decety Grezes, 2006). The typical imagination inflation paradigm occurs in three phases (Sharman, Manning, Gary, 2005). During the first phase, participants complete a Life Events Inventory (LEI, Gary, Manning, Loftus, Sherman, 1996) questionnaire suggesting the probability that they experienced certain events as a child. The second phase is the imagining phase during which participants imagine how and when some of the events could have transpired. The third phase involves completing a LEI questionnaire again, and most of the time participants are informed that the original copies have been lost. This paradigm demonstrates how participants can be manipulated into being confident and believing that certain events occurred during their childhood, which causes them to create a false memory (Leding 2012). Other studies support the imagination inflation paradigm by validating that individual s confidence increases because of imagining an event (Heaps ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Botox Injection In Muscles The main goal for Botox is to block the chemical signals that are sent to cause muscle contraction. Botox is injected in small doses into targeted muscles where there are unwanted wrinkles. With this chemical block the muscles can no longer tighten and skin will flattens. This will give the main goal of having less wrinkled and smoother appearance that some people desire. Botox injection works by weakening or paralyzing certain targeted muscles and nerves in the area affected. The exact area that the Botox paralyzes is right at the begging of muscle contraction called neuromuscular junction. During regular muscle contraction there are a series of steps that go along with it. The first section of a series of step for muscle contraction, and where Botox is targeting, is called the neuromuscular junction. The signal will start from being collected in the dendrites down to the cell body, which then sends the message down the hillock passing through the axon. With the neuromuscular junction it will then get that nerve impulse and transmits a message down the axon to the terminal. No Fault Divorce On Equal Footing No fault divorce has allowed women and men (and more recently, same sex couples) the option to end their marriage simply because they no longer want to be married. However, this presents new legal questions which need to be answered. The courts must determine alimony, or spousal support. After a marriage, one spouse might need to support the other based on length of the marriage, difference in incomes or lost earning potential. However, determining a fair way to allocate alimony is an important issues to ensure both partners come out of the marriage on equal footing. Establishing new guidelines for alimony is critical to ensuring that there is equality at the end of a marriage. Marriage in our country is changing along with our culture and society. Obergefell v Hodges opened marriage to people of all sexual orientations, allowing all to marry who they wish, regardless of sex. Additionally, the amount of people who are married is declining. In 2013, just half of American adults were married, compared to 72% in 1960 (Pew). Since our society as a whole has been reconsidering marriage, we should also consider how marriages end and what factors should be considered when distributing assets, alimony and child support. Right now, trial courts are allowed discretion in determining alimony and the factors considered vary wildly across all fifty states (Rhode 2014; 76 77). According to section 129 of the Transfer of Property Act no rule of Mohamedan law shall be affected by chapter VII of the Transfer of Property Act relating to gifts. It, therefore, follows that an oral gift made by a Muslim is a valid gift and does not require registration, which otherwise is not a valid gift under section 123 of the Transfer of Property Act. In the context of sec.17 (1) (a) the pertinent question is about the applicability of the clause (a) to written gift executed by a Muslim in the light of section 129 of the Transfer of Property Act and the rules of Muslim law relating to gifts. The courts for a long time obscured the answer. In Sankesula Chinna Budde Saheb v. Conflict is a part of everyday life, as long as we have existed conflict has also. Rahim (2010) defines conflict as an interactive process manifested in incompatibility, disagreement or dissonance within or between social entities. However, he expands upon the definition stating debating as to whether the conflictis caused by the situation or the individuals type of behaviour. This contests the issue of whether conflict is caused by a particular situation that the employee has experienced or if whether the behaviourism of the employee is to blame. If organisational conflict is not resolved, several negative consequences can occur including increased stress among employees, reduced creative collaboration and team problem solving, disruption to work flow, decreased customer satisfaction, distrust, split camps, and create gossip amongst the workplace. Consequently, as everyone is working towards the same goal a conflict of interests is unlikely to occur, resulting in harmony amongst the entire workforce. (Leah, 2001). The coefficients indicate how the price changes by a unit change in any variable, keeping rest of the variables constant. The output shows that cut, polish and certification have t stats and corresponding p values that are considerably greater than 0.05 (significance level). A stepwise regression drops these variables, indicating that they are not a good fit for the model (Appendix). One reason might be that the scatterplot of price vs. carat shows observations being clumped; representing the three different wholesalers (Appendix). Making inferences on this scatterplot shows that wholesaler 3 carries diamonds in the range of $160 to $665, significantly lower than the total range. These observations might lead to inaccurate prediction of the effect of predictor variables on price. Also, it can be seen from the scatterplot that wholesaler 1 deals in diamonds falling under a very small interval of $3000 to $3091, while the ones from wholesaler 2 fall in the range of $1856 to $3145. As a result, this paper makes an assumption that only data from wholesalers 1 and 2 will fit the model best, in terms of finding the correct diamond for the professor. 2. Essay on Stefan Sagmeister, an Influential Designer Libby Castellani Holly Vaughn GRA 1109C 17 October 2012 Stefan Sagmeister: An Influential Designer In today s art world there seems to be a large gap that separates fine art from commercial art. Often there is a disconnected coldness associated with those who work in communications art and produce art for clients. As if all emotion and feeling is stripped from commercial artwork merely because it was created with the intention of pleasing a client. Stefan Sagmeister bridges the gap in the art industry by redefining commercial design as a personal, emotional, and deep art. The audacity of his brazen body is accompanied by harsh lettering that has literally been carved into his skin by his intern with a razorblade (Heller amp; Vienne, 10). While the broad reception to this poster can be attributed to its shock value, Sagmeister s self mutilation was a commentary on the absurdity of inking the body with tattoos (Heller amp; Vienne, 10). The scratches in his body display the details of the lecture as well as Sagmeister s words pertaining to his philosophy on design, Style=Fart. This philosophy, which he has now put to rest, translates as his conscious effort to not get wrapped up in fashion statements or trends; design that is defined by a temporary style is meaningless (Designboom). Sagmeister explains why he relinquished the philosophy in an interview with Designboom: I discovered that this is simply not true.
Through experience I found that if you have content that is
worthwhile the proper expression of that content, in terms of
form and style is actually very important. It can be a very

Baroque Music Essay Due to the fact that Baroque keyboards generally lack the ability to make crescendos and diminuendos, music played on these instruments sound very boring and straight forward unless elements are added to the performance. For organ and harpsichord, the player cannot change dynamics once the registration is chosen. A decent performance of Baroque music, no matter on a Baroque or a modern day keyboard, relies very much on the variety of touch to sound interesting. I would therefore like to discuss some crucial concepts that guides keyboard players on how to effectively control the touch and attack of the keys with correct posture and movement. A Study On Congenital Visual Agnosia And Prosopagnosia Case Study: Congenital Visual Agnosia and Prosopagnosia in a Child In this paper I will be doing a literature review and evaluating the case study of a particular younger patient with Congenital Visual Agnosia and Prosopagnosia. Visual agnosia is the impairment of the recognition of different object stimuli, which cannot be explained by other sensory losses (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). There is said to be two different classifications or types of diagnosed visual agnosia, associate and appreciative agnosia (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). Appreciative agnosia is caused by perseptual impartments, and associative agnosia can be cause by multiple different conditions that cause the loss of object recognition, and don t really seem to be associated with no other extreme visual impairments (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). In this case the child appears to have a case of associative developmental agnosia. Congenital Visual Agnosiain this particular child s case, was not cause by anything affecting a visual perceptual system that was normal (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). Instead, in this particular case the child had visual system that was developed abnormally since birth (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). It is also mentioned in this case study that this particular case of congenital visual agnosia is important for research in understanding both agnosia in children but also how object recognition systems should develop normally (Ariel, Sadeh, 1996). They found an increase in serum triglyceride levels and serum HDL (the good cholesterol) that was greater than those on the low fat diets. They also found that both diets saw similar decreases in LDL (the bad cholesterol). Therefore, those on the Atkins diet had a higher increase in good cholesterol that benefits the heart and the same amount of reduction in bad cholesterol as the low fat diet. Review of UKSports Anti-Doping Policy Essay The two major justifications for the ban on the use of performance enhancing drugs in sport relate to the protection of the health of athletes, and the maintenance of fair competition (Black, 1996; as cited by Waddington, 2000) The main objective of the U.K. Statement of the Anti doping Policy stems from this. The aim is to ensure that the various governing bodies of sport in the United Kingdom have consistent and regular sets of policies and regulations in order to protect the rights of athletes to compete drug free (U.K. Statement of Anti doping Policy). This policy, (January 2002) published by U.K. Sport, was considered a major landmark in the fight for drug free sport . It was an attempt to set standards in accordance with the ... UK Sport will have to agree an annual anti doping programme, consisting of testing (where appropriate), education and information, with the Governing Bodies and also assist with its delivery. They will have to guarantee the confidentiality of information arising from programmes except where it is required, in order to provide transparency and accountability for public funding and the integrity of the testing programme. UK Sport will also report to the designated official, within the Governing Body, both negative and positive test outcomes, within an agreed timeframe. Again, they will assist, as required, with the provision of information to the review, investigative hearing or appeal panels. Training workshops will be provided for Governing Bodies, on operational and legal issues. Governing Bodies will also have to be supported with advice and guidance, from the Anti Doping Programme, team to achieve programme delivery arising from the policy. Supporting, independent advice on complex scientific or medical issues will also be provided by UK Sport, who will also promote an independent dispute resolution system for sport. Finally, UK Sport will have to continue independent, high quality collection services, as well as assisting Governing Bodies with the monitoring and reporting of results. Furthermore, according to the policy, Sports Councils have the power to withdraw funding from athletes who have come ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Benefits of Technology Incorporation into a Classroom Setting Today, our society is more technologically advanced than it has ever been, and our schools have become more technologically progressive over the past few years, but does having technology in the classroom help or hinder the students from learning? A quote by John Dewey from his book Democracy and Education stated If we teach today s students as we taught yesterday s, we rob them of tomorrow. Integrating technologyinto classrooms is not only essential in preparing the students for the future, but it is also an effective teaching method. Many surveys and studies have been done about using technology to teach students. Even as early as 6 years old to college level and the outcomes have varied, depending on the way it was introduced and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, give a brief description of technological manner in a classroom, allow usage during non test days for note taking and the penalty of a reduced participation if the technology proves distracting to the student or his/her peers (Jackson). Another way to ensure that the students are not misusing the technology is for the teachers to teach the students how to get the most out of it. Most devices can be connected to the internet and there are almost an infinite number of things that you can do, see, and use while on there, but if the students spend their time doing assignments, projects and learning new skills the likelihood of them misusing it will decrease significantly. Applications on hand held devices such as tablets and iPads have made learning more fun for students. An app was created for students 8 years or younger, where they can learn early reading skills such as basic sight words, and they can practice writing and grammar skills while creating their own interactive stories (Pilgrim, Bledsoe and Reily). Mathematics apps focus on beginning concepts of math number sense and include diagnostic games to determine the instructional level of each student. The apps are also available for more advanced concepts. Science apps can do things like turn an iPad into a telescope where students can explore the stars and planets to ... • 52. Good And Evil In Mccarthy s Blood Meridian It is evident, even in the first few pages of this novel, that evil plays a huge role in Blood Meridian. On the first page of this book, McCarthy says ...in him broods already a taste for mindless violence (3). So right from the start, the kids mind was set on evil, not good. There is a similarity in that sentence with the Christian faith. Christians believe that from the very start of human life, everyone has an evilnature. No one is born without sin. The whole reason for needing a Savior is because of man s evil nature. People will search far and wide for something to make them feel whole. Until they find Christ, they will not be fully satisfied. This thought can parallel with everything that the Kid has done. From the start, he had evil intentions in his mind. He searched for someone or something to take that out upon. He found the judge and Glanton, who assisted him in expressing his feelings (the evil and hatred) through violence. He latched on to those who carried his same thoughts and began to act just... Their god becomes war, and that is exactly who they seem to serve. They go crazy with the killing and become blind to their actions and feelings. Man needs a purpose and someone to hold them accountable. Their purpose, they thought, was to kill. Towards the end of the novel, the men have no reason to be killing anymore, yet they never stop. Their evilness slowly overtook them. They are now so engrossed in killing, that even if they wanted to find a way out, they probably could not. In Christianity, this is where the Savior comes in. When you are knee deep in sin, the only thing that can get you out is believing in God. Since these guys seem to be living for war, nothing will get them out of the pit they are ... • 53. The Cohort Component Method For Many State And Local... 3.5 Cohort Component Method One way to Project an area s population is the cohort component method, which is used for many state and local governments. This method offers in depth demographic statistics on why and how the population changes. There are 2 steps in this method. The first is to separate the population into groups of age and sex. The second step is to implement fertility, mortality, and migration rates to each distinct group. There are some things that have to be taken into account for this method before computing anything. The first is that all of the age groups have to be the same in that the years in the cohorts (n) are matching. The second is that the amount of years in the projection intervals (z) should identify with the number of years in the cohorts (n). The last one is that all the rates used in this model have to be altered to show five year projection periods. 3.5.1 The Mortality Component The first thing we do is calculate the female population likely to survive until the year 2005. There are two things that can happen which rely on the age specific survival rate (nsrx). The populations for females in the initial year which is 2000 (nFx 2000) can move in the start of 2005 to the following age cohort (n SFx+z 2005) or will live from 2000 to 2005 (n DFx 2000 2005). The first calculation is to multiply the launch year of the female population in 2000 by its age specific survival rate. n SFx+z 2005 =( nFx 2000 )( nsrx ) nFx 2000 is the female ...
