 I have created a questionnaire using survey monkey and this is a general
summary of what the responses told me:
 Age- 16-18
 Gender – male
 Preferred genre – comedy
 Least preferred genre – romance
 NRS grade – C2D because the working class are more likely to take busses.
 Psychographic – N/A but mine is gonna be socially concious type b
 Sexuality – N/A
 Research viewing figures, sales figures, demographic and psychographic info.
Look up article, features or stories related to your potential audience
 My target audience age range is 16-18 year olds. Looking on websites such as
IMDb, one of the most popular genres for young adults are comedies. This may
be the case because 16-18 year olds are potentially going through some of the
hardest years of their life with college/university and comedies provide escapism.
Especially with comedies aged 15, they can understand the subliminal jokes and
innuendos now that they are older. As a child you wouldn't understand some of the
adult films and it wouldn’t be appropriate for them. Some popular comedic movies
which have grown popular with the young adult audience are films such as
The Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, liar liar and kick ass. Shaun of the dead
(which is part of The Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy) has earned a rating of 8.0
on IMDb and fans say it could easily become an occult following (which it has)
because it received well at the box office because the fans loved the timeless
performance of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.
 For this you should summarise your primary and secondary research, through this
you should then be able to produce an audience outline that you intend to target.
For this you could also produce an audience profile.

 Given your idea generation and your audience research, what sort of content
would you define as the appropriate. Consider issues of taste, certification [BBFC
might be a good starting point for this], etc. Look at what you’d like to include and
what you are allowed to include.
 Looking through the film classifications on bbfc, my short film will most likely be
rated a U. I think my film would be of this classification because it does not include
discrimination, drugs, imitable behaviour, language, nudity, sexual content, threats
and violence. I don’t want any of these aspects to be in my short film because I
want my short film to appeal to all age ranges.

This shot comes from the film 'Matilda'. The shot that they have used here is a
high angle shot. They have done this to show an authoritative figure looking
down at a person who lacks power in the situation. It also shown to emphasize
how small the character is as it talks about in the scene how a little girls goes
out to find books to read.
This shot comes from the movie 'Jaws'. In this opening scene of the film, the
girl in the shot has gone swimming at night and a shark attacks and kills her. In
this scene the editors have used slow music to the shot. They have used this
to add a dramatic effect and make the scene more tense. Using this music, the
audience knows what is going to happen to the girl. In this shot the camera
zooms in on the girl going from a wide shot to a medium shot. This is to make
it seem that the shark is swimming to the girl and is closing in on its prey.
This shots comes from the movie 'Suicide Squad'. The production technique
here is a close up shot. This shot is used frequently in films because it easily
shows characters emotions and you pay attention to what that specific
character is saying or doing. For example, in this specific shot, it clearly
shows the sociopathy of the Joker.

Camera/Editing/Audio Experiments

In my experimental filming process, I
used a lot of equipment and
techniques. To film the shots I used a
standard issue college camera and a
tripod. The camera was easy to use
and provides a high quality resolution
for shots. The tripod, again, is very
simple to use and was useful because
it held the camera firmly and was
good for panning shots. For the
filming I used techniques such as
wide pan shots, close ups and
medium shots. I feel like these were
good techniques to use because it
was clear of what was in the shot and
how the focus switched between
them.
 What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
 For my final product I am going to use the standard camera and
the tripod because I understand how to use them and the camera
gives good quality for shots. For the techniques I am going to use
the ones I included but I am also going to include a bigger range
of shots such as an over the shoulder shot. I am going to use
these techniques because they will add more to the film than just
basic camera shots
 To edit my experimental short film I
used Adobe Premier Pro. I used a
very basic method for my assembly
of shots. I used the razor tool to cut
videos down and sequence shots
together. I found royalty free music
online and downloaded it using a
YouTube to mp3 converter. I also
used the razor tool to cut down the
music so it would fit with the shot.
 What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
 I am going to use adobe premier pro again for when I come to
assemble my shots for my final short film. However I am going to
explore more with transitions and effects because I didn’t use
them with my experimental video.
 For this experiment we have been
given a clip from a movie an we
have to collect our own sounds and
fit it into the scene. For this I used a
audio recorder. This device was
good to use however I didn’t collect
some of the sound recordings
because I got confused with where
the headphones where supposed to
be placed so some of the clips didn’t
get recorded. I used premier pro
again to assemble the audio clips
along with the video lip.
 What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
 I think I going to use the sound recorder again for my final short
film because It was a useful and efficient way to gather audio
sources.
 List all the potential constraints that might affect or limit your production, you
should consider issues from each of these categories:
 Time/Personnel/Cost/Technical/Location/Organisational
 For my short film I do have restrictions on what I can do. For example I only have
a week to shoot the film and serious cost restrictions because I don’t have a
budget. I'm restricted to location as there is a few select location in which the cast
and crew can reach. I may have organisational problems as I may not find a time
where all cast and crew can make it.
