Most of the audience for the short film is expected to be female teenagers who enjoy action and police genres. They prefer films that are around one minute with happy endings and include tension. Based on this research, the film will be a comedic police story set outside that is under one minute with both action and tension. It will have a happy ending and colorful lighting. The target age rating identified is 12A to allow for mild violence without focus on injury details. Examples of similar successful short films were analyzed to identify techniques like camera angles, sound effects, and editing approaches to apply to the project. Experiments with equipment and editing tools were conducted to prepare for the production. Contingency plans are in place to address potential delays or issues

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2. From the questionnaire I know that most of my audience is female, and prefer
action genre. To cater to this audience I will implement action to my short film. My
audience likes short films to be no longer than 1 minute and would prefer to have
a good ending over a bad ending. Because of this I make a happy ending for my
product and the film will be no longer than 1 minute. Most of my audience like
police films and would watch a police comedy. They all think having tension in a
film is key. So the film will have a lot of tension built up.
3. Most of my
audience would
prefer the film to be
1 minute.
Most of the audience
would like a happy
ending to the short
film, meaning the good
guys win.
4. The majority of
the audience
likes police
films.
Most of the audience
would watch a police
comedy but a few said
maybe and no so I’ll
make the product a
mixture of action and
comedy.
5. Everyone said
that there
should be
tension in the
film.
Most people said the
lighting should be
colorful but a few
said it should be
bright.
7. Research viewing figures, sales figures, demographic and
psychographic info. Look up article, features or stories
related to your potential audience
A police film like Hot Fuzz has done well, getting positive
reviews among critics and audiences. The age rating for most
of these types of films are 16 or 18+
I think teenagers are my target audience because from my
research on what teenagers like to watch. They like to watch
action films because violence requires your full attention to
see everything that happens and usually never gets boring.
Also in action films there is usually some sort of tension
which keeps the audience on there seats.
8. For this you should summarise your primary and secondary research, through this
you should then be able to produce an audience outline that you intend to target.
For this you could also produce an audience profile.
From my primary and secondary research I have found out that my audience is
male and female, teenagers, they like police films, prefer the action genre and like
having tension in a movie.
9. Given your idea generation and your audience research, what sort of
content would you define as the appropriate. Consider issues of taste,
certification [BBFC might be a good starting point for this], etc. Look at
what you’d like to include and what you are allowed to include.
I researched movie grading on the BBFC. 12A is a movie that can have
some violence but no focus on blood and injuries, bad language is has to
be limited, and there must be no missus of drugs. In a 15 you are aloud to
show violence and you can show blood and gore but not too much of it,
you can show a small amount of miss using drugs and bad language is
allowed but in appropriate circumstances.
From my research on the BBFC website I have come to the conclusion
that my short film is a 12A. Because it has no bad language it has some
slight violence.
10. Research potential production techniques you might want to use
or feel would be most appropriate – these can be related to
camera, editing, story, sound, etc
You should look at a minimum of 3 related products in your
research.
You should collect clips/still images/how to guides/etc that might
help you. When watching scenes from films, etc you could also
ask potential target audience what they think.
You will need to add extra slides!
With each technique you should assess whether you can use it or
how you might employ or why you may want to disregard it
completely
11. Late night reader is a 60 second film. Its about a guy who has
gone insane and has forgotten that there's a body in his car. What
I like about this film is that its mostly one take, until he opens his
boot to find a body, then the camera starts changing positions.
There is no music or sound effects until the man finds the body.
This is done to make the audience surprised and shocked when
the body is reviled.
There is no dialog in this whole film but they still manage to tell
you what’s going on in the story. They have managed to do this
from there use of facial expressions and there use of sound
effects. If there where no sound effects in this film, it would be a
completely different story.

12. Hot Fuzz is a police comedy set in England. Its about a city police
officer, who gets transferred to a small village called Stanford.
Sound effects are used quite a lot in the movie and sometimes used
for comedy purposes, which makes the movie seem a bit more
cartoony. Sound effects in this movie are also used for transitioning
scenes, and the sound effects are unrealistic meaning there
cartoonish.
Camera angels are quite normal in this film, when someone talks the
camera is focus on them, there are a lot of sharp cuts when there's
an action scene, to take the mick out of actual action films.
I would describe the movie as a big micky take of other movie, and
its all for laughs meaning nothing should be taken to seriously.
13. 21 Jump Street is about 2 cops who go under cover in a school to
find out who’s been selling lethal drugs to teens. The film is set in
America.
The sound effects used in this movie are normal until the cops
take the drug and while there high, the sound effects are all loopy
and cartoony.
The camera angles in this movie are all quite normal to, but when
they get high the camera angle go a bit weird this is all done to
show how the cops are feeling and what they see.
Unlike hot fuzz this movie is quite serious and the jokes only
come from people talking.
15. For our experiments we had to make a short film about three students,
our short film was about one of the students falling down the stairs and
another going to get help. To help us film we used a tripod, to keep the
camera steady. We used different camera angles such as close up
medium and long shot, This helped to make the product more
professional.
16. I will use the same type of camera angles such as long shot
medium shot and close up, because it will make my product look
more professional. I will also use the same equipment as before.
17. I edited the product using premier pro, in premier pro I used the
move tool and the razor tool, to edit the clips. If I felt that
something wasn’t right for instance if something happened to
quickly I would split up one or two of the clips and spread them
out. I also added in letter boxes to make the product look more
cinematic.
18. I will add letter boxes to my final product because I think they will
make the film look a whole lot better. I will use the same software and
tools as before.
19. For this product we had to our own sound effects over a
Shaun of the dead scene. To get the different sound effects we
went to different locations in college so when we wanted a
sound effect for opening the fridge we to the shop. We realised
that we needed different types of footsteps, for example
walking outside, running outside and walking inside, for the
outside footsteps we got the sound effect from walking on
concrete and for walking inside we got the sound effect from
walking on wood.
20. I doubt I’ll need to audio dub my final product, but if I do I will use the
same equipment as before and use the same technique as before.
21. I might not have enough time to finish my final product, if this happens I
will take out some of my own time to finish the work. If there is personal
issue or I’m ill during production I will end up losing time to make my
product, so I will once again take out my free time to create and finish my
product. I don’t think with my product that money will be an issue but if it
is I’ll ask for help. While editing my product the computer crash and I’ll
end up losing all my work, so while editing every ten minutes I’ll save my
work. If there’s a problem when filming, for instance the camera might
break.
