2. The Proposal
• I am to make an music video to accompany an
original song that I have written as part of my
extended project.
• I have chosen to do this because I have a personal
interest in music video production and would like
to go further into this business in the future, I
would like to pick up more skills and knowledge
on how to create a music video so that in the
future I am able to create more similar products.
3. Planning
Research:
• Who is the audience?
• What do the audience like to see in their songs/ video
• What will the video look like? 5 hours
• Where can the video be filmed?
• When will the video be filmed and music recorded?
• How will I edit the music/ video/ final production?
Song writing 6 hours
Storyboarding 8 hours
Recording of sound 4 hours
Videoing
10 hours
4. Song Research
Most common song type in the UK is love songs.
Most songs are written through a feeling or motion that the
artist is feeling.
Songs are usually started with lyrics and followed by the
instrumental track.
On the next slide I have shown the first draft of my song that is
currently being adjusted to fit the musical composition.
5. Kiss Goodnight
You kissed me goodnight,
As you went out with the lads, Do you not respect me?
And you said: “baby im all yours”, Do you not believe in love?
You held me so tight , Do you not care…
And you looked into my eyes, What the future holds?
But tonight, You lie and you lie,
I know that was all lies. But isn’t it about time,
For the truth to be told,
Do you not respect me? Before the lies all get old?
Do you not believe in love?
Do you not care… Now it’s time for you to leave,
What the future holds? Got out of my life,
You lie and you lie, You’re the past now,
But isn’t it about time, The future looks bright.
For the truth to be told,
Before the lies all get old? Do you not respect me?
Do you not believe in love?
Its time for you to leave, Do you not care…
And you kissed me goodnight, What the future holds?
But your promise means nothing this You lie and you lie,
time. But isn’t it about time,
Just walk out my door, For the truth to be told,
Just walk out my life, Before the lies all get old?
Now it’s goodbye forever more.
You would hold me so tight,
And whisper “I love you”,
I thought you were mine,
I thought I was all yours.
6. Music video research
• I looked at 4 different music videos that are in
the same genre as mine and have noted down
what I like and dislike about each video, after
doing this I made a decision on what should or
shouldn’t be included in my personal music
video, on the next four sides you will see my
analysis of each video.

song • Not always about the song

12. What my video shouldn’t be …
• Off the point of the story
• Boring
• Over the top
• Not a lot going on.
13. Creating the song and music
• Writing the song and the music was an
important part of the project.
• It was also the hardest.
• I ended up writing around 3 sets of different
lyrics before ending up with my final one.
• If I was to do it again I would create the music
before the lyrics as doing it the other way
round was a lot harder.
14. Producing the music
• I recorded both the lyrics and the backing
track straight onto the computer using a
zoom.
• I recorded them separately and attached them
together using Cubase.
• If I was to do it again I would use a different
programme to produce it as I found the use of
Cubase hard.
15. Storyboarding and ideas for the video.
• I came up with 3 different ideas for the video and
asked teenagers which idea they preferred.
• By asking the target audience it gave me an inside
look into what they would like to see in a music
video for a song like this.
• I also viewed music videos that had similar
genres, this helped me as it gave me ideas and
showed me what had been done before, this way
I could make my video different.
16. Location and equipment
• I used a cheap video camcorder and minimal
equipment/costumes/props, my music video
is low budget, this way I could show the
natural side of the situation.
• I used a public area for my location, this way it
seemed more realistic.
17. Shooting the video
• The video took a week to film.
• I used the same location throughout the film.
• I used the same characters.
• I produced 3/4 short shots, that I could use as
a replayed sequence for the video.
18. Editing the video.
• I spent a week editing and producing the final
video, I used 3 videos and replayed them for 1
minute of the film after each time the film was
faster, after 3 minutes the story continues.
• I used a black and white effect for my
video, this creates an affect of sadness.
19. What would I change ?
• I would make the vocals louder than the
backing track.
• I would make more shots for the film.
• I would show different side of the story
through the music video.
