Jack created a music video to support the LGBT community using British Sign Language. He researched music videos on YouTube for inspiration and chose to recreate Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" video. Jack filmed the video in his living room with friends due to time constraints. Though the filming took longer than expected due to distractions, Jack was pleased with the finished video. Peer feedback noted the effective lighting and effects but suggested varying locations and shots. For future videos, Jack plans to film outdoors, hire professionals, and improve rehearsal and planning.
3. Research
• I researched in YouTube and I found two videos, “You Need Me, I Don’t Need
You” by Ed Sheeran and “My Valentine” by Paul McCartney. The both videos had
same as sign language because I want to created my video will be use BSL
(British Sign Language).
• I researched in YouTube and I find two videos. One video called “Born This Way”
by Lady GaGa, and other video called “The Greatest” by Sia. I chose two videos
because my idea to created my LGBT music video.
• I had strong decided to pick “Born This Way” because that video make me feel
confident and strong. I want my music video similar as her video because her
video had show her brave and stand up support to her LGBT fans.
• Her video had influence me to create my idea because I want to my video show
to LGBT community for my support. I can do similar her performer because I am
opened mind which mean I can do big comedy performer.
• I can’t do her video special effects like earth and space because I have not
enough time to create special effects. Also, her videos lights look so professional
and I can’t do similar as her because I never used any studio lights.
• I researched in Google and I found Born This Way’s lyrics (script) because I need
it for I rehearsal to song in my video as same as her song.
4. Planning
• I wrote in my mind map for my ideas. I had lots of idea of characters,
background and shots.
• I created my storyboard and I use the storyboard from the internet called
“StoryboardThat” because that is easy to create it. If I make a mistake I can
remove some items out of storyboard. I like to create storyboard in internet.
• I made a list of shots for I decide which the scene I want to style of shot. I
received a list style of shots from my tutor. I read through all the shots and I
decide to pick which is suitable.
• I decided to not use close ups because If I use it and my audience can’t see my
sign language. Close ups which is only focus on the face and that’s why I don’t
need them. I like other shots like long shot and medium shots.
• But just before I finished the planning, I had last minutes to change my
storyboard because my new idea was better than an old idea. I was doing filling
my mind map and StoryboardThat again.
• Also, we should be filmed at outside but unfortunately one of my actor have
work and she finished work at 5pm, so we will be filmed at inside of my house
because outside will be dark at 5pm.
5. Time Management
• My time management are under control because I was doing my planning time
are smooth and there are no rush.
• I created my mind map and StoryboardThat are still smooth time because I was
take my time to created them because I was been used them before.
• I had problem with my time management in the filming because all the actors
who is Deaf and they were distracted by talk each others.
• I through the filming will be expert around at 6pm to 7:15pm because I know my
video will about 2 minutes which means the filming might easy and quick. But in
real, I realise that I spent around 6pm until 8:45pm because one reason they
were distracted by talk each other.
• I can’t blame them because I know all the Deaf can be easy to chatting than
anything and all my friends who never experience begin acting before. Next
time, when I create new video and I will look for performers or I will teaching my
friends to learn little bit about performance.
• I was doing editing time management was under control because I know how to
used edit makes me relax and take my time to edit my video.
6. Technical Qualities - camera
• I must asked the college for permission to borrow the camera for I take it to home
to begin filmed in my house.
• I know camera’s rules like if I break the camera and I must pay. Lucky, I didn’t had
problem with the camera because I was careful with the camera.
• I know how to used the camera because I created two short films which means I
used the camera twice.
• Before I take the camera and I asked to college bring me two batteries because last
time I created my horror short film and I brought on battery. During the filming, half
way to finished and my battery are dead. I haven’t brought battery changer because
I was first time to used camera and I didn’t know full about the camera.
• In the filming, I asked one of my friend who be the cameraman and I was happy
because my friend is professional photography and he knows how to used the
camera. He had done the right shots which I want. Sometimes he had wrong level
of shots. Next time, I will bring my storyboard to show my cameraman will know
which is shots.
• I realised most of time I not use the tripod because I want my camera had
movements. Only twice I used tripod for two scenes that’s all because two scenes
had depend my height. My height is 6 foot and all the actors are short than me and
I must use the tripod for easy to same as my height.
7. Technical Qualities – editing/post
• After I finished the filming, I used the software called “Premiere” because the
premiere is about editing the film.
• I must used the subtitles because that is important for the Deaf, I added some
subtitles and I chose the red and glow on font because I like it and it makes my
audience will be more interesting.
• Only one thing I had difficult with editing, I should be editing the sounds wave to
match my song but I can’t do it because I was messy with sounds wave. I am Deaf and
I can’t hear any sounds which means I never used to editing sounds wave. So, change
the plan I used the colours for link to sounds the beat and the rhythm.
• I added an adjustment for editing some colours. Then, I choose some colours on each
of adjustment to made look colourful flashing like dance floor.
• My tutor asked me to little bit extra for close ups focus the sign language. But I’m not
think I can do it because if I did, my video will look ruin. If I added some more video
and the scenes will look different clothes, background and no actors. So, I don’t need
to adding video and I am happy with my music video.
• I was very brave because I would like to put my video in YouTube and send the
YouTube public. Also, not just for YouTube and I uploaded my video in YouTube and I
was embed to put my blog for easy to watch my video.
8. Aesthetic Qualities
• My video look so amazing because I added some colours on adjustment to make look
my scene colourful flashing. I used colour like rainbows because the rainbows link to
LGBTs.
• I found my character was brilliant because I am boy and I was doing performing as drag
queen are funny and sassy. I knew most of televisions had drag queen and all the
audience were love them because they are comedy.
• I created my character and I wear wig, makeup, my mum’s old clothes and my sister’s
jewels to make look like drag queen role.
• My background had a Christmas tree because I like to show my video can make look
more cosy and excited. I don’t like without it can make look boring.
• Also, my background is living room in my house because I would like to filming at
Christmas stuff like Christmas tree and decorations to make look warm and
comfortable.
• Other reason why I was filming at living room because I should be filming on outside
but there is night can be difficult to filming in the dark. That is reason I prefer to filming
inside of my house. Also
• I added some subtitles look so cool because the subtitles had red glow. I like it because
that can be make my Deaf audience will attracting to watch it.
• My background characters look bored to dance because they were nervous to begin the
filmed and that was last minutes to filming without rehearsal.
9. Audience Appeal
• I am sure my audience will love to watching my video because my video is comedy
and most of teenagers love comedy movies.
• I think my audience will love my music video because my video had a colourful scenes
such as dance floor and strip lights.
• I think my audience will love my characters because my character is hilarious and
drama queen. My performance had opened mind because I am boy and I wore a girl
dress suitable for a comedy.
• I chose my audience age between 15 to 24 because my video is suitable for
teenagers. I not sure about over 40 years old and they will be feel awkwardly to watch
it because they still use old fashion way. I not sure about under 14 because they are
too young and they will be nervous and embarrassing from each other.
• I believe most of Deaf teenagers will love to watch because my video was first time to
use sign language for LGBT music video. That is true because I researched in YouTube
and there are no BSL in any LGBT music video.
• My video are appropriate with teenagers only because my video had comedy jokes
like flirting and wearing girl clothes to make to my audience will good laughs. Also my
age was same as their age because my audience will be understand to connect me as
same as emotional.
• I would like to my audience will pass to around the world to watching my video
because out of world had lots of LGBT community and I want to my audience to watch
my video.

performers to be professional and I don’t want to they nervous and shy at the
filmed.
