An electric current can cause deep burns when passing through the human body due to resistance heating. The entrance wound shows burns around the point of entry where the skin's high resistance converts electricity to heat. The current then flows internally until exiting where the body is closest to the ground, sometimes causing massive unseen injuries like those that led to the amputation of the foot in this case. Tetanus can also result if muscles involuntarily contract due to an electric current passing through the body.
