8. Critical stage of Irrigation- Tillering, Flowering, & Grain development stage
o In these stages irrigation is highly recommended.
Fine Seedbed Preparation- A deep ploughing (atleast 15 cm) with soil inverting plough followed by 2-3
harrowing is considered to be optimum.
Care should be taken to avoid stagnation of rainwater during levelling .
Apply recommended dose of FYM/Compost 2-3 weeks before sowing of crops.
Adequate moisture in the seedbed at the time of sowing is conducive to good germination.
Pearl millet requires a fine seed bed free from clods as the seeds are small in size.
Mulching- Mulching should be done after sowing till proper germination of all crops to avoid moisture
loss & weed penetration in main crop.
After 15 days approx we can remove straw. Mostly we use paddy straw. Mulch should be moderately wet.
Weed Control- Hand weeding should be done with kudal. We dig the soil & pulverise/hoeing the soil &
simultaneously remove the weed.
Insect- Some insect are there in field for that we apply Panchagavya & cow urine in respective field.
Extra Water should be remove by cutting the bunds after irrigation & rainfall.
9. CONCLUSION-
Proper handling of crop should be done.
For better growth & reduce competition for space & nutrients, weed
should be remove regularly.
Rainwater/ Extra water should be remove from respected field.
Bajra need less water i.e. 25-30 cm for the overall season.
At those places where germination not happen there we do transplanting.
Plant population should be maintained properly.
