Essay about Three Approaches to Coping with School Violence
We humans have always sought to increaseour personal energy in the only manner wehave known:
by seeking to psychologically steal it from others an unconscious competition that underlies all
human conflict in the world. (James Redfield, 1993, The Celestine Prophecy, New York: Warner
Books,65 66)
Some school critics and statisticians have observed that drug dealing, vandalism, robbery, and
murder have replaced gum chewing, talking out of turn, tardiness, and rudeness as the most chronic
problems afflicting today s schools. If the intent of this observation is to shock and rattle the public
s sensibilities, it s working. Of course, some of us may interpret such suggestions as merely dark,
stoic, and cynical scare tactics quite in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1993 Harris survey (Youth Record, August 3), reveals
that 22% of students polled claimed they took weapons
to school in the previous school year (and how many
declined to admit it?); a Gallup poll conducted for Phi
Delta Kappan (Elam 1993, 137 152) showed the public
ranking drug abuse, discipline, and violence in the top
four of the ten most serious problems affecting schools.
And the depressing numbers drone on.
Yet, a MetLife teacher s survey in 1993 shows that
77% of teachers and 50% of kids felt safe in and
around their own schools (9). And according to a New York
Times article (1994), although violent incidents in New
York City s 1,100 public schools (K 12) rose 26% in
1993 94, no homicides occurred in them the first year
since 1990. Still, in the same article, New York City
Schools Chancellor Ramon C. Cortines laments:
When I read the list of weapons we have
seized, I wonder if we shouldn t start handing
out medals for valor instead of report cards.
The violence and weaponry in [New York
City s] streets and communities is (sic) being
imported into our school buildings. (27)
While the facts about school violence indeed have
quite a shock appeal, the attitudes and spirit of a major
ity of teachers and kids are admirable. But we must not

Essay On Muscle Injury
You often hear about athletes who are unable to play their sport due to a pulled hamstring. In fact,
a pulled hamstring is one of the most common muscle pulls or muscle injury. Your hamstrings are a
group of three muscles that help extend your legs at the hip and flex them at the knee. A pulled
hamstring is a strain or tear in the muscles or tendons.
To understand what causes a hamstring injury you have to know how muscles work. All muscles
work in pairs to perform a task. One set of muscles contracts to exert force while the other set of
muscles relaxes. The hamstring muscles located at the back of the thigh, work with the quadriceps
muscle group in the front of the thigh. When you want to bend your leg, the hamstring muscles
contract and the quadriceps muscles relax. Conversely, when you want to straighten your leg, the
quadriceps muscles contract and the hamstring muscles relax. ... Show more content on

This frequently happens with the hamstring muscles. The quadriceps muscles are usually much
more powerful, so the hamstring can become fatigued faster. A fatigued muscle cannot relax as
easily when its opposing muscle contracts, leading to strains.
Muscle strains are overuse injuries that result when the muscle is stretched without being properly
warmed up. An injury to the hamstring is usually readily apparent. Mild strains may involve
simple, uncomfortable tightening of the muscle. More severe injuries may result in a sharp pain
in the back of the thigh, usually in full stride. A rupture or tear may leave you unable to stand or
walk, muscles may be tender to the touch and painful to stretch your leg. Within a few days after a
tear the area may appear very bruised.
Remember RICE and you will know the immediate treatment protocol for many sports related
injuries, including hamstring pulls or

Sports Discussion On Diversity
After attending the Issue in Sports Discussion on Diversity I realized many things. The main point
that I took away was that diversity in the sport community is a major issue that many people tend to
ignore. Dr. Laura Burton of the UConn Sport Management Program, Fluerette King of the Rainbow
Center and Nicole Melton of the UMASS Amherst Sport ManagementProgram all provided their
opinions on the issue of diversity in sports. They answered many highly debated questions in
relation to diversity and sport and how the two fit together. They then opened the floor to the people
in the audience for a chance to ask questions. Listening to the questions and answers was very
interesting. One comment by Dr. Laura Burton that stood out to me was that

It was amid a midyear break when the inverter at my place required an overhauling which was
expected by organization s arrangement. In any case, the organization lost a track of its past records
that demonstrated the third due administration. After a great deal of bothers and protests the issue
was settled. Notwithstanding, this occurrence made me end with that organization and joining
another. A large number of companies are unable to keep up the track of their administrations which
causes them a big time loss.
Each business plans to build its deal breaking its past records. Furthermore, the best way to do it
is to draw in new clients as well as to keep up them after deals. An organization that prioritizes its
customers will always be referred. The primary purpose behind the decrease of offers in an
organization is its absence of duty to give appropriate administrations to its clients. An enlisted
grumbling is here and there which is sometimes not attended by the organization which prompts
expanded grievances among the shoppers prompting decrease in the sales. Sometimes the
organization is not ready to keep up the record of the administrations of a client which prompts a
more prominent perplexity in the association. Another issue related to less customer satisfaction is
the inability to solve the problem on time.
One solution to this problem is to

My First Twenty Years Of One s Life
The first twenty years of one s life not only holds the most dramatic physical changes, but also
extensive changes in the social/emotional and the cognitive stages. Throughout my first twenty
years, I have reached the majority of my physical attributes for adulthood. I have gone from a
babbling infant to a well educated undergraduate student at a pristine univeristy. I have
overcome evolving life circumstances, and I have, in other words, grew up. I plan to use my
life experiences along with Laura E. Berk s psychological research to explain how I have learned
to grow and adapt physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. As history progresses, the
evolution of physical changes to the human body seems to move right along with it. According
to Berk s studies, the secular trends in physical growth over the past 150 years have led to taller
and heavier children in industrialized nations (p 413). Personally, my growth was lower than
these new trends. I was average height, but I have stayed below weight even as I am maturing.
In the prior family generations before me, many males experienced their growth spurt up into the
twenties, so there is the slim chance that the usual teenage spurts didn t hit me because they tend
to fall late in my gene pool. However, I was pretty normal among the physical stages of growth as
a toddler. I was standing alone and walking alone at eleven months (p 184). Even though this is
the average age for most growing children, I was always a

Fast Times 1980s
Fast Times of the 1980 s
How things have changed since the 1982 debut of Fast Times at Ridgemont High, as this high
school parody has become somewhat of a time capsule of teen life of this time period. Here I will
point to several areas of historical value, such as fashion trends, technology, as well as social
interactions and a view of American youth growing up during these times.
The truth of the story is that at the age of 22, Cameron Crowe decided to gain permission into a
southern California high school, entering incognito amongst the students for an entire year to study
and write a book based on student life, problems, in addition to social interactions. Shortly
thereafter, Amy Heckerling was presented with a script, which she adapted ... Show more content on

The actor and his slip on shoes both gained great recognition from the film, in addition to other
items such as Baja Hoodies, Ray Bans, Vuarnet sunglasses, as well as those damn Izod polo
shirts with the alligator and collar turned up. More importantly, Spicoli character introduces his
sense of fashion and timing as he arrives late to attend Mr. Arnold Hands class and finally gains
entrance displaying a green Izod polo shirt with signature alligator and the famous checkered
Vans, slip on shoes. Additionally, his character also manages to introduce the surfer Baja
Hoodies during further class attendance and later in dream sequence he showcases Pacific
Coastal surfer trunks as well as another scene wears a long sleeve SEXWAX t shirt by Mr Zog s
Surfboard Wax. However, the character of Mike Damone is often seen throughout the movie
sporting his trademark Ray Bans as his personality reflects the more inland coastal, mall rat culture
of the 1980s. A case in point, in this scene, Mike Damone convinces Mark Ratner to inviting
themselves to Stacy s pool: What are you kidding? We re gunna surprise them. Look, just fix your
collar, alright? Relax, just be cool, attitude, remember? Where d you get that, outta the hamper?
Many fashion trends were generated by the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High, like those famous
checkered slip ons earlier mentioned, of which I owned at least three pairs of, but sadly, one of
which was chewed up by a Pomeranian named Jaws. The surprising popularity of the movie made
some good products great and some great products globally

The Siege Of Petersburg
The Siege of Petersburg occurred from June 15 18 1864. However, it was actually a series of
battles fought around Petersburg from 9 June 1864 to March 25, 1865. This was to be a
evolving era for the military, society and how the two would affect each other. During this era,
new tactics and strategies would be tried, changed and adopted throughout future wars while
others would fail miserably. Your position in society would usually dictate your position on the
battlefield. Even though your position in society did not qualify you as a leader or good decision
maker as several outcomes of this Siege would prove. This may very well have affected the
outcome of new strategies and tactics. Had better decisions been made on the battlefield... Show

Now not all blacks were slaves there were free blacks in the south roughly a quarter million who
had bought their freedom and moved on to own their own land and slaves. The south was known
for their large tobacco and cotton fields, which required daily excruciating backbreaking labor.
Slave hands were what made this possible to complete and continue for too long. Not all slaves
were out working the plantation or fields, there were also slaves doing everything from carpentry
and masonry work to raising children and not necessarily their own children. This was a way of
life in the south and without that amount of work; being completed that the slaves were responsible
for, the ability to sustain life would be imaginable. As the civil war erupted all war worthy
confederate males left their home to defend the southern states against the Union Army. At this time
the minimal amount of personnel were left at home to support the family and continue to work
the land while maintaining a positive outlook and forward progress. Times were rough for the
south if the land was not worked then the crops could not be sold and the family had no income or
means to sustain life. Not only did they not make a living, the crops were supporting the
confederate troops fighting the war. Soldiers of the confederate army were struggling to sustain the
fight, the food was scarce,

Reflection Paper About Moving To Jordan
As I descended through those fluffy white clouds in the middle seat of the airplane, I was
overwhelmed with such incredibly nostalgic memories that suddenly rushed into my mind.
Surprisingly, an abrupt wave of anxiety caused me to feel like there were hundreds of butterflies
flying all around in my stomach. However, this anxiety did not deter my excitement one bit to
take on this strangely familiar adventure once again. So after swallowing my fears and seeing
the breathtaking landscape from the window of the plane, I knew that I had made it back to
Jordan. Last summer, I went on an incredibly fun family vacation to Jordan. However, I have to
admit that I definitely was not expecting to have that level of enjoyment during my trip. One of
the biggest reasons why I felt this way about returning back to Jordan was because I spoke
formal Arabic. Additionally, since all of my family in Jordan only spoke and understood
informal Arabic as well as a Jordanian dialect that I was unfamiliar with, I knew that I was going
to struggle to communicate with them. Moreover, given that Jordan is a country that primarily
speaks an informal Jordanian dialect of Arabic as its first language, I felt as if I was going to be
hopeless stranger. In fact, I never really understood the importance of speaking two languages
growing up. I had always thought that learning English alone was sufficient enough. Quite simply, I
did not realize the impact the Arabic languageplayed in shaping my identity.

The Pros And Cons Of Non-Traditional Families
During the 1990 s, a total of 71.5 million children under the age of 18 lived within the U.S. Of
these children more than 70% lived in a traditional two parent family, 25% lived with one parent,
and less than four percent of children lived with another relative. As of 2013, about 46% of
children live in a traditional two parent family. The remaining 54% are divided into three
categories: 15% live with two parents remarried, 34% live with a single parent, and five percent
live without a parent. Studies show that children who live in an non traditional family are at a
greater disadvantage than children living in a traditional family. Children who live in non

Using the 2003 National Survey of Children s health, researchers were able to deduce the health
differences between different types of families. In terms of physical health, most families produce
children with excellent physical health. There is only a small margin of change between different
types of families. However, mental health and special needs are drastically higher among non
traditional families than traditional families. Problems with emotional and behavioral control rise
from five percent in traditional families to fourteen percent in blended step families. Children from
these families also experience poorer dental health. Bad health not only affects the way a child
feels and operates, but it can also affect them later on in life. Many companies that would employ a
high school dropout do not offer health insurance. Since a percentage of people from non
traditional families experience bad health, they are more likely to get turned down when they apply
for life insurance. A lack of health insurance can prevent people from getting specific medications
they may need to treat some of their health problems. Non traditional families are ultimately
responsible for poor health in their

Hermaphroditus The King s Metamorphoses
Metamorphoses Second Assigned Story Section
1.What might we learn from the tragedies of BOTH Salmacis and Hermaphroditus? Look at it from
both sides.
Answer: Salmacis and Hermaphroditus love story explains us that we should never be greedy for
something or we will be punished for that thing and also many people have to suffer for our deeds.
We can tell from many Greek mythologytragedies that Zeus fall in love with many beautiful girls
and try to share his bed with them in disguise form, but in this tragedy Salmacis was shown in
love with Hermaphroditus and as women were not as powerful as men they always get cursed out.
In this story, it also shows us that by falling in love with Hermaphrodius, Salmacis could not do

One loved her own father than other loved her own brother and the third on Iphis was just born
as a girl and because of her father not knowing that she was abput to marry a girl. I think that
when you love somebody it is really hard not to express things to them so you either try to run
away from things or you tried to keep everything in your own heart. It thinks keeping everything
in your own heart is more difficult than telling the truth to a peron that you love him/her and
than getting betraed. Iphis told her mother that she loved Ianthe and her mother helped her in
getting her love. As she was raise as a boy it s not her fault to fell in love with a girl so god also
helped her in getting married to a girl s/he liked. But on other hand Myrrha and Byblis fall in
love with their own family member which is a big crime and they knew that before so I think
one succeeds and others failed. If Myrrha and Byblius had talked to their father and brother
respectively than maybe they could have taken out a solution and they would have not been
betrayed out of kingdom and died so brutally. It depends on person s mind how it works when
there is a difficulty. If person thinks peacefully there is a solution for every

Summary Of On My Honor
This book is an emotional roller coaster ride. The moment you start to read this book, you can no
longer put it back down. The author of the book On My Honor made opposite characteristics for
Tony and Joel. The opposite characteristics of the two characters really caused the plot to be like
an emotional roller coasterride. Joel has the characteristics of a cautious, smart, and usually honest
boy. (Bauer, 1) Joel yelled, CLIMB THE STARVED ROCK BLUFF? YOU VE gotta be kidding!
Joel s spine tingled at the mere thought of trying to scale the sheer river bluffs in the state park .
On the other hand, Tony is a self centered, daredevil, and unintelligent boy. (Bauer, 1) Tony just
casually says, Nobody even knows if the guy was really trying to climb the bluffs. Tony just says
that as if dying on the Starved Rock is like eating a piece of cake! In all, the details and
characteristics put into the story allow readers to understand the story a lot better.
In the beginning of the story, the basic situation Joel found himself in was, his childhood friend
Tony asking him to go to the Starved Rocks with. Joel didn t want to look like a coward, so he
and Tony went to his father getting permission for Joel to go to the starved rock with him. As a
result, Joel s father who is normally overprotective of Joel, allowed him to go to Starved Rock.
(Bauer, 8), On your honor? he said. You ll watch for traffic, and you won t go anywhere except the
park? You ll be careful the whole

Gun Control And Mass Shootings
Gun Control In the course of history gun control and mass shootings has always been an issue,
but much too often, history has been being made. Gun control is an understatement for what
actually is being implemented. The process to get a gun, for example, a rifle, is all too easy. Let
me personally walk you through this gruesome process . First, you walk into the store, second you
pick your desired weapon, third you walk to the cashier to do a background check, finally you buy
the gun. The hardest part about that process was choosing the actual weapon you want. With little
gun control comes more mass shootings, and with more control comes less mass shootings.
Obtaining a gun is much too easy, and needs to become more strict, or even... Show more content on

Another common saying by those who believe taking away weapons is a bad thing is, taking
away guns will cause more criminal activity. Every armed robbery taken place the victim has 91%
of the time was wielding a single type of weapon, for example a gun.
As I sit here researching the topic on mass shootings and deaths in the U.S. a breaking news
article popped up on my screen. In Texas today, November 5, 2017, 27 people were killed and 30
were injured. I would normally be in shock how someone can do such a thing to innocent moms,
dads, kids, teens, and infants. But with the world we are living in now there are no surprises to
me anymore with the recurring gun violence. It s as if there is a contest to gain entry to the top
mass shootings in U.S. history because this one in Texas has made it in. Exactly a month ago the
Las Vegas shooting was taken place becoming the deadliest shooting ever recorded in U.S. history
and this now being 4th in that list. Being the greatest country in the world I would think someone
would have the common sense to realize guns are the issue not the people wielding them.
Previously stated above among the 52,000 shooting incidents this year only about 1,700 was
reported for defensive use, leaving the rest assumed to be in acts of violence. The number of
deaths recorded this year for our U.S. soldiers reaches 6,903, while American citizens reach 13,136
with gun violence. With these facts being put on paper it

Early Onset Anorexia Essays
Early Onset Anorexia
In recent years, it seems that the public has begun to pay more attention to eating disorders. This
trend could be a consequence of the heightened nutrition and fitness craze that the 1990 s has
brought about, or possibly a result of more intense and conclusive research studies. More clearly
defined definitions of anorexia and bulimia in the DSM IV may also have contributed to better
diagnosis of eating disorders.
Anorexia nervosa is a disorder that in the majority of cases will start when the patient is a
teenager. The mean age at onset is figured to be about 17 years of age. The distribution of cases
appears to be asymmetrical with a skewness towards the higher ages (Theander, 1996).

A Good Plan Violently Executed Now Is Better Than A...
A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week. What is it
about this quote from General George S. Patton that some leaders are able to grasp and others
cannot? Throughout military history, untold number of plans have been developed and executed
with both success and failure. It is not the plan that moves entire Army s across a land mass or
storms a country s beach head, but the plan that is developed during a split second between rounds
cracking over your head that defines the battle at hand.

The Importance Of A Formal Diagnosis Of Bdd
Data Collection The first step in my data collection will be to recruit participants. Because my
study aspires to get to the lived experience of what it is like to live with BDD, I need to choose
participants who have experienced, or are currently experiencing, this phenomenon. This will
require I utilize criterion based sampling, meaning the population sample will have characteristics
relevant to my researchquestion (Creswell, 2012). Therefore, my task will be to find and select
participants who will be chosen on the basis of a formal diagnosis of BDD, as confirmed
through their diagnosing clinician. In order to do so, I will place advertisements on relevant
social media sites, BDD Internet support group websites, as well as other fitting locations I
discover during my process. Prior to placing said ads, I will be sure to obtain any necessary
approval in order to adhere to ethical standards. Once the prospective participants express interest,
I will electronically send an invitation to participate, which will include an introduction to the
research, as well as consent and contact sheets. When participants agree to participate, paper
copies will be mailed to them. After receipt of signed consent and contact forms, I will contact the
clinicians designated on the consent forms in order to obtain a confirmation of the participants
BDD diagnosis prior to beginning. In regard to sample size, I cannot predict the exact amount of

Obesity is one of the major risk factors for gallstones, especially in women. A large clinical study
showed that being even moderately overweight increases one s risk for developing gallstones.
Secondly, excess estrogen from pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills
appears to increase cholesterol levels in bile and decrease gallbladder movement, both of which can
lead to gallstones.
Ethnicity is another important factor. According to scientists, Native Americans have a genetic
predisposition to secrete high levels of cholesterol in bile. In fact, they have the highest rates of
gallstones in the United States. A majority of Native American men have gallstones by age 60.
Among the Pima Indians of Arizona, 70 percent of women have gallstones by age 30. Mexican
Americans men and women of all ages also have high rates of gallstones.
The fourth factor is Cholesterol lowering drugs. Drugs that lower cholesterol levels in blood
actually increase the amount of cholesterol secreted in bile. This in turn can increase the risk of
gallstones.
Another factor is rapid weight loss. As the body metabolizes fat during rapid weight loss, it causes
the liver to secrete extra cholesterol into bile, which can cause gallstones.
Gallstones may sometimes cause certain symptoms. These symptoms include Chronic Indigestion,
which have symptoms such as nausea, heartburn and bloating.
Sudden, steady and

Electrical Engineering And The Field Of Engineering
Electrical Engineering is a well respected and growing field of engineering that centers on the
practical application of electricity, electromagnetism and electronics. The field is of considerable
necessity to modern life and infrastructure, having applications in many diverse branches of modern
life. Some of these include telecommunications, energy and power distribution, transportation,
manufacturing and consumer electronics. In this report we will go over the education and
coursework requirements, fields of the industry, the work environment, salary, tools of the trade,
and professional organizations of electrical engineers. According to Frederick Terman; Electrical
Engineeringas a discipline first appeared in the United States during the early 1880 s as classes in
physics and energy flows intended to prepare students to enter the new and fast growing electrical
manufacture industry. As the industry grew, EE education followed. Within ten years the discipline
made a place for itself along the more classical engineeringdepartments. An example of the
industry s adaptability to change would be the industry before and after the First World War.
Before WWI, work in the industry was concentrated primarily on the distribution of power,
building electric infrastructure using the properties of AC and DC circuits. Also before WWI,
many students did not opt to take on graduate work. Instead, students typically would obtain a

The Irish Immigration During The Nineteenth Century
During 1850 and the following two decades, a mass Irish immigration to America took place. The
mass immigration carried aspiring individuals and families to come to the the land of opportunity
for the betterment of their future and their children s. Under the rule of Britain, Ireland was
thwarted from industrializing and expanding. While, overseas, the United Stateswas thriving from
the technological advancements and entrepreneurial success, appealing to many emigrants. The
Irish immigrationin the late nineteenth century was a result of primarily devastating social factors
such as the Great Potato Famine in Ireland. Most of their expectations were not met in the United
States because they were poorly treated at their low paying, dangerous jobs and were often
discriminated due to stereotypes, resulting in an overall, emotional and physically painful
experience with numerous hardships.
During and after the devastating Great Potato Famine in Ireland, many Irish left the country for
America. They viewed America as a land of opportunity that provides more stability and security.
The majority of the immigrants to America were tenant farmers and laborers. The tenants were
among the poorest citizens in respect to the social hierarchy. Under the rule of England, many
tenants had to work harder to produce crops and grains for England rather than for themselves and
Ireland. As a result, many tenants were producing crops that were for commercial uses rather than
personal. They were

Our understanding in anatomy and physiology today will be deadened without the knowledge from

First, it is the perspectival depiction technic which Mantegna uses to portray Christ body. The
painting appears with Christ body in the center lying on a marble slab with Virgin Mary and
St.John by his side. From the viewer s angle, one can see the anatomical details in Christ body
especially his thorax. It is because Mantegna uses foreshortens and dramatizes the recumbent [of
Christ] figure (). However, Christ s feet are smaller in the size so that they cannot interfere the
view of Christ body. If Mantegna draws Christ s feet in proper size, it may cover much of the body.
This painting is one of the most masterpiece as example for perspective technic. Even thought
Mantegna uses foreshorten to make Christ s body appearing shorten, the physical structure of his
body is still represented accuracy. By using the perspectival depiction technic, Mantegna also
expresses his understanding of human anatomy through Christ s figure. For the first look, we can
see Christ s thorax is described in detail. His bond and muscle of the chest appears natural.
Besides, the wound in his arms and feet are small hole surround by broken flesh. It is
understandable in our world today due to our knowledge of anatomy. The wound looks like that
because people takes the nail which stuck Christ s arms and legs to the cross out. The broken flesh
is the trace of the nail being stuck in his arms and feet. However,

English Language Change
How Changes in the English Language Will Affect Teaching L2 Students
Language is always changing. The English we speak today is different from that used by
Shakespeare, and vastly different from that used a thousand years ago. Part of what it means to be
a living language is that it will change over time. The reasons for these changes can be myriad. In
recent years, the factors most responsible for changing the English language, both in terms of its
mechanics and in terms of who is speaking it have been technology and globalism. The advent of
the internet, with its attendant ability for real time communication, has changed the language
because people are now writing more like they speak, and they are finding more efficient ways to
do both. The global business community is also having an affect on the English Language, because
it is now the Lingua Franca of choice. English has become the language most people use both in
business and online. This is changing, though, as other languages become more widely spoken
across the world and as the global village allows people from non English speaking nationalities to
find their voices. It is becoming more important for people to be multilingual if they want to
participate in a global community. These changes are important for teachers of English Language
students to understand because it is becoming less important to sound like a native English speaker
and more important to teach the language in the context of the local culture. Also,

Nelson Mandela Analysis
The relationship that develops between Nelson Mandela and Francois Pienaar in the movie
Invictus suggests how crucial of a role they play as leaders to the people of South Africa. Even
though, Pienaar is white and Mandela is black, they both work towards uniting a divided nation
despite their differences. Regarding Nelson Mandela, he uses his voice and presidential power to
find a way in which he can unite the whites and blacks of South Africa. When he discovers that
sports, particularly rugby, can be used as a method to unite the people of South Africa to cheer
for one team despite how divided its people may be, it signifies how influential and wise of a
leader he is to the people of South Africa. This is so inspiring for me because he found an
interest that both the whites and blacks of South Africa have in common that will help bridge the
gap between them despite their troubled history with each other. Some characteristics of Mandela
that indicate how influential of a leader he became for the people of South Africa is because of
his transparence, empathy, courtesy, and humility. Mandela served as such a vital figure as a
leader in uniting South Africa through his devotion to the rugby team. He understood how
influential this team was to the entire nation, and he made every effort to establish a close
relationship with the team by frequently meeting and speaking with the players and attending
their games. Due to his valiant efforts, he did everything he could to help inspire the team by
investing so much time into their success as a leader to the point where they felt that they would
have failed the entire nation had they not won the World Cup. Now, this surge of success among
the rugby team was ignited by the captain of the team himself, Francois Pienaar. Francois Pienaar
developed into a very crucial leader for not only the South African rugby team, but for the people
of South Africa. He not only led the rugby team to success on the field, but due to his close
relationship with Mandela he was able to inspire and motivate his teammates towards winning the
World Cup. For Pienaar, winning the World Cup meant so much more to him than simply having
the opportunity to hold up a trophy, but rather to provoke

The Life Of Mary Shelley s Life
The Life of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
It has been said on many occasions, by many individuals, that truth is stranger than fiction. Mary
Shelley s life, saturated as it was by sorrow and coincidence, serves as very strong evidence of
this statement s veracity. From the circumstances of her birth to her passionate life and the end of
her days, Mary Shelley led a life far more interesting than any work of fiction could hope to imitate.
Mary Shelley was born Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin to Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin
at Somer s Town, a district of central London, on August 30, 1797.
Twelve days after giving birth to her daughter Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, Mary Wollstonecraft
died of puerperal fever. William dealt with his grief over the loss of his wife by writing a
moving account of her life, titled Memoirs of the Author of The Rights of Woman . The
biography was received negatively due to the detailed accounts of Mary s liaisons with Imlay and
her suicide attempt. The honesty of the text in these regards led to the temporary destruction of
Mary Wollstonecraft s already polarized reputation. William s reputation was also crumbling at the
time, as his reformist ideals were losing popularity in the wake of the French Revolution. The care
of Fanny and newborn Mary was left to William, although female friends and maids attended to the
practical issues of parenting.
Mary spent many long hours by her mother s grave in the churchyard of St Pancras Old Church, and

It s Time To Reduce Food Waste In Sub-Saharan Africa
Introduction
In Sub Saharan Africa 30% of the population are starving, but in many first world countries в…“
of all food produced is wasted before it can be eaten. If the amount of food waste is not reduced
Earth will be unable to support the estimated population growth. Food waste has become a larger
problem in the United States due to over portioning and the mishandling of food, but this problem
can be reduced or even eliminated through making consumers aware of reducing food waste and
properly handling the food they do waste. Transition

While it doesn t have a perfect answer there are simple changes that can be made to reduce food
waste, Cutting down on food waste across the country is a challenge because losses happen at
every stage of the supply chain, experts say. The problem starts on farms with excess crops. It
extends to supersized restaurant portions, grocery stores quick turnover, and Americans
tendency to overbuy. To keep produce from farms from going directly to the trash, there has to
be an increased focus on quality of produce rather than appearance, Another top contributor to
food waste in the U.S. is farms, says Bloom. Agricultural producers regularly leave misshapen
vegetables and discolored fruits to rot on the ground. Why? The food industry has strict
standards for produce s shape, size, and color. Harvesting fruits and vegetables that don t meet
those standards can be financially draining for farmers. Pickers skip over other crops if they
suspect the produce will no longer be at peak freshness by the time it reaches stores. For food that
does end up wasted there are ways for people to dispose of it differently. One way that keeps food
out of landfills is composting, Composting is an alternative to disposing of food in a landfill.
Certain elements of foods can be turned into compost to feed and nourish the soil, helping to
cultivate new growth. Park and recreation agencies, like those in Lansing, Michigan, have utilized
composting bins to re purpose the food for their community gardens. This provides the additional
benefit of educating youth about the process of how food is grown. Finally consumer have to take
it upon themselves to only buy what they will eat and to use all leftovers instead of tossing them

What Are The Stereotypes Of Asian Americans
Casey Swanson
Race Ethics
Extra Credit
Due: 12/14/2015
Our history has taught us many things, but it doesn t emphasize a number of stereotypical
situations over the discussions of race. Humans have created numerous stereotypes whether they
are good or bad. Causing people to think that because of different races we have to compete for a
dominant class. A popular so called stereotype is the model minority.
Asian Americans have been considered as the model minority and research shows that this minority
is achieving the American Dream . With a good education, earning a good living, being
hardworking, patient and earning the highest college degree attainment rate in the US, Asian
Americans fit the stereotype very well. They even fit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though statistics shows Asian Americans having a higher median income than white families,
you have to also look at other factors that can furthermore affect the results. Asian American
families tend to have more family members who are working than typical whites. They also live in
more metropolitan areas, where the cost of living is higher. Some say that in order to survive the
Asian American family must earn more to spend more.
Even though this stereotype sounds positive it can also have a negative effect. Research displays
that other minority groups tend to have more years of education to just make the same amount of
money as whites who may have not as much of an education. Asian Americans are underrepresented
in political leadership positions. Many more assumptions have come to develop from the stereotype
but just because some Asian Americans have made it does not mean that all Asian Americans
pertain to this.
Not all racist stereotypes are negative but do play a big role into what we think about each other
based on race assumptions. There are other stereotypes about Asians like all Asians are smart .
This can put pressure on many and if they don t live up to that expectation, can be considered a
failure not only to society but to the family members as well. Recently, more and more Asian
Americans are being targeted to hate crimes. Not because of who they are but for what their race

Comparing Ovid s The Myth Of Daedalus And Icarus
The myth of Daedalus and Icarus has been approached by many different artists with many
differing depictions of the event. Some artists such as Ovid, chose to focus on Daedalus and Icarus
and leave everyone else out. Other artists, for instance, Pieter Bruegel the Elder and W. H. Auden,
have much more panoramic views of the situation and include others in their works. Different
approaches can leave the readers with different understandings of this ancient myth.
In Ovid s The Myth of Daedalus and Icarus, the author uses a third person point of view to closely
follow Daedalus and Icarus. From this, readers are more tightly attached to the characters and
know more about them. Readers of this story witness the inventing and engineering of the wings
by Daedalus and know the conflicting desires of Daedalus to escape from prison and to protect
his son. One thing that is emphasized in this story is the overwhelming sorrow of Daedalus, both
before due to fear of Icarus falling, and after due to the loss of his son. Ovid includes ... Show more

A few activists began to protest since the testing was on fault line and they feared it might cause

Pixar deliver stories by taking a simple, ordinary imagination, and gradually build up the stories
from a tiny spec, eventually creating an emotional connection with the audience. The main conflict
is being reminded regularly throughout the movie, and the plot never strays far from it. For
example, in Ratatouille the story revolves around Remy s dream to become a chef with the
background setting limited to confined spaces of the restaurant. This could be to ensure the story
does not stray far. With DreamWorks movies, however, the stories are told in a fast pace, taking the
audiences on a thrilling journey through a series of continuous adventures throughout the movie.
Jokes are told consistently, sometimes even including certain elements that could be seen as
unnecessary, but nevertheless entertaining, such as characters bursting into musical numbers. In
addition, unlike Pixar, DreamWorks strays far from realistic things. Their themes are diverse as it
often derives from legend, myths, fairytale, or bizarre imagination. As a result, audiences are
provided with action packed, entertaining movies, often bringing the crowd into a series of laughter.

Presenting Yourself As An Artifice Essay
The passage suggests that leaders need to have a false relationship with their citizens in order to
not become unreal. To forget the true principles of being a leader is astonishing as there is no
better way to be a leader than to possess the qualities of being competent and sincere. For
generations it had been that way but now we re in different times and the way we view things
have changed. The idea of presenting yourself as an artifice is a problem because people can no

skill like artiface presents the people with a leader who is dubious and will not have veracity of

situations because it provides you an exit of a problem, but to have every situation as a fraud is a

This gives birth to the antisocial activities such as robbery, physical abuse, snatching and many
more.
There is not only one theory that why people become addictive to drugs, however there is always
a combinations of many factors. Here are the major two theories as to why this social problem of
drug abuse exists in the society. Firstly, The genetic theory (Schukit. P.no 452. Theories On Drug
Abuse ) is related to biological aspects. Genetic factor plays a pivotal role in the physiological
drive of an individual. Genetic theory means transmission of genes to children by their parents. An
individual may become addictive to the substance if any of his ancestor was also addicted to that
same substance. Secondly, Self esteem theory (Howar B. Kaplan,Phd. Pno157. Theories On Drug
Abuse ), this theory is based upon self esteem motives. The key variables of self esteem theory are
drug availability, feelings of inferiority or superiority, social pressure/acceptability, coping
mechanism, immediate gratification and life style. People falls under the theory of self esteem
become dependents of illicit substances like hallucinogens, barbiturates, amphetamines, marijuana
and alcohol. These substances are observed as an alternative action to self rejecting attitudes.
At three levels the social issue of drug and addiction can be seen in society. These three levels are
Micro, Macro and Meso. The social issue under Micro level theory of drug abuse and addiction

Identification of Anthrax Infections
The environmental pathogen I chose from the California Code of Regulations, Title 17 is
anthrax. The anthrax genus is Bacillus and the species is anthracis, it is a Gram positive spore
forming bacillus. The methods of identification for anthrax are three different types the first one
is a skin lesion that has evolved over 2 to 6 days from a papule, through a vesicular stage to a
depressed black eschar, with considerable swelling around the lesion. The second one is a
respiratory illness of abrupt onset followed by the development of dyspnoea progressing to
hypoxia, with X ray evidence of mediastinal widening. The third identification of anthraxis
abdominal distress that is followed by fever and signs of septicaemia which is rare and 90% of
cases are cutaneous anthrax. The incubation period for anthrax for cutaneous is typically 1 day,
for inhalational is within 7 days although incubation periods up to 60 days are possible, and
gastrointestinal is usually for 3 to 7 days. The reservoir for anthrax is soil, infected animals such
as sheep s, goat s horses, and pigs. The mode of transmission for anthrax is when humans handle or
consume products from infected animals, from being bitten by flies who have fed or infected
animals, by inhaling anthrax spores or through cuts and abrasions that become infected with
contaminated soil. The symptoms of anthrax are high fever, chills, or night sweats. Flu like
symptoms and sore throat followed by difficulty in swallowing, enlarged

Battle Of Trafalgar Research Paper
Battle of Trafalgar On October 21, 1805 the combined fleets of Spain, France and the Royal
Navy made the last great sea action of this time. We do not know if this helped the war effort, but
the battle itself was a culmination of a long campaign. Europe was in peace for 14 months because
of the Treaty Amiens. Napoleon had plans to attack Europe but was frightened at the thought of
them being blockaded by the Royal Navy.
On March 30th Admiral Villeneuve managed to take over Nelson blockading him in Toulon.
Villeneuve sailed West waiting for Ganteaume, but Ganteaume failed to to break the British
blockade. Villeneuve was unable to reach Ferrol so he started sailing to Cadiz. He arrives in Cadiz
on August 13th avoiding a combined fleet of 29 British

Starbucks Case.
Q1: Why do you think Starbucks has now elected to expand internationally primarily through local
joint ventures to whom it licenses its format, as opposed to using a pure licensing strategy?
First of all, the main point of this topic is that local joint venture gives control to Starbucks. In
fact, the company can be really sure that licensees are following its success formula. For example,
it allowed the company to the liberty to train the foreign working party by transferring some
employees from the USA, so they could teach them the way to deal with the customers and to
follow the Starbucks essence in their behavior. Before, Starbucks did not have this control on the
foreign business and this business still was far behind the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It could be said, that the quality of the coffee Starbucks serves is a competitive advantage. However,
a joint venture offers the lowest possible protection of the sustainable competitive advantage (SCA).
Therefore, Starbucks will have to implement strict guidelines to be able to keep their SCA alive
and well in the Japanese market. Starbucks partnership with Sazaby, Inc., an upscale retail and
restaurant operating company, they did just that, protected their SCA with a company that shares
the same type of SCA while being a focused differentiator.
The third is the benefit of knowing how well the US product will do in the foreign market
through local adaptation. Initially, it is that local adaptation which serves as the greatest benefit
of the partnership. Local adaptation looks at how well a US product will sell in the foreign
market. A partnership allows for the collaboration between foreign and US partners to develop a
product that will functionally be similar to the original US product yet also appeals to the
consumers of the foreign market. Starbucks coffee bar design seems to have been a good match
for the Japanese market. The coffee culture in Japan is that of a kissaten , coffeehouses with a
formal sit down atmosphere.
Local adaption is one of the main points that Starbucks has to face. In fact, in it financial report, the

Gold Standard Essay
The gold standard refers to a monetary system in which the fixed amount of gold is used to
define the value of country s currency and the country s currency is freely interchangeable to
gold. To guarantee convertibility, the supply of money issued by the central back was entirely
restricted by the quantity of gold reserves in the nation. International payments are compensated
in term of gold. Under the gold standard system, the value of a fixed quantity of gold reflects the
value of the country s currency, thus leading to a fixed exchange rate, which is determined by the
gold weights. For instance, if the gold price in the United State is $400 per an ounce, the dollar s
value will be 1/400 for an ounce of gold. As a result, the government needs... Show more content on

First of all, the great advantage of the gold standard is that it portrayed long term price stability. It
was used as the buffer against risk for both monetary policy and inflation expectation as it restrict
the government s power to inflate prices by printing excessive money. Under the gold standard,
further money printed must correspond to amount of gold available in the economy. Thus, it was
nearly impossible for the countries to experience hyperinflation. Another worthy benefit of the gold
standard is that it sets up a fixed exchanged rage among participating counties as well as abolishes
exchange rate volatility. Thus, the system provides a favorable economy in promoting international
trade and investment. Historically, if the price levels in the participating countries were not
balanced, it would be offset by the price specie flow mechanism. which is the automatic balance of
payment adjustment mechanism. For imports country, the use of gold to pay for the goods will
suddenly decrease its money supply and therefor lead to deflation, making to country more
competitive. In contrast, the gold receiving in exchange for goods for the exporters country will
increase money supply and lead to inflation, making the country less

The Importance Of Learning English
Learn Your English In todays world, English and the use of English is rapidly changing. It s slowly
becoming a more universal language due to the diversity of people in many different countries.
Having a shared language would ensure all American citizens can communicate with one another
and prevent groups from becoming isolated and separated from one another. With the help of two
essays The New Technologies in the World written by Dennis Baron and So Here s What s
Happening to English written by Jack Rosenthal, you ll soon then understand how English is
changing right beneath your feet. English should be the medium of instruction at universities and
everyone should learn English in the United States for the following three reasons:... Show more

If you re going to read about technology, you ll probably have to do it in English. Another reason
why English should be known is by being able to communicate with others. The importance of
English is becoming much more known in result to that it s widely introduced in majority of high
schools and colleges. But on another note such as speaking internationally, it would be very
beneficial to learn english, not only will your opportunities expand, but the knowledge you can gain
from it is unmatched. Baron introduces this topic by saying, When it comes to globalization, the
first language that comes to mind is of English, which gets you thinking, you don t think of any
other language first when it comes to language of the world. To create a world of ethical
responsibility, English language plays a key role. Most works of art and popular culture are more
honestly represented in their origin of language, such as a song, novel, or even a movie. Without
this common language, nothing would be able to function smoothly. Similarly, it is also very
important to maintain peace and harmony among people. If you raise an issue, only through
peaceful talks and conferences, they can be discussed and solved problems. English is best to
make this easier. It makes business run much more smoothly as well. If everyone at a company
speaks English and you have a handful that don t, communication will be much more tough and will
likely put things out of

The Impact Of Digital Technology On My Life
I 201 brought many important highlights about digital technologies to my life. Coming from a
1:1 Apple Distinguished high school, I had been exposed to a lot of technology in the classroom,
which gave me an interesting start to CI 201. A highlight for me was creating the technology
lesson plan. Doing this assignment was significant because as a future educator I will be making
lesson plans daily, so it is extremely important that this is a skill that I continue to work on. Along
with this, it was exciting to see how you can have technology incorporated into almost any Iowa
Core standard. Another reason I enjoyed this assignment was because it put me into my future
position, one that I am really looking forward to. For example, because I hope to someday teach
kindergarten, I chose a kindergarten standard about geometry for my lesson.
From there, I was able to create a student project with technology, worksheets, checklists, and a
rubric. It was almost as if I was already in my future position.
Another highlight from CI 201 was video chatting with Carrie. It was amazing to see how
someone in the field of technology does their job on a daily basis, and get real time situations. With
talking to Carrie came learning about self paced math. This is a topic that I hadn t heard about
before coming into CI 201, but is extremely interesting to me. For self paced math, students learn
math from videos according to what level they are at. This guarantees that no student is farther
ahead

Essay about Three Approaches to Coping with School Violence We humans have always sought to increaseour personal energy in the only manner wehave known: by seeking to psychologically steal it from others an unconscious competition that underlies all human conflict in the world. (James Redfield, 1993, The Celestine Prophecy, New York: Warner Books,65 66) Some school critics and statisticians have observed that drug dealing, vandalism, robbery, and murder have replaced gum chewing, talking out of turn, tardiness, and rudeness as the most chronic problems afflicting today s schools. If the intent of this observation is to shock and rattle the public s sensibilities, it s working. Of course, some of us may interpret such suggestions as merely dark, stoic, and cynical scare tactics quite in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A 1993 Harris survey (Youth Record, August 3), reveals that 22% of students polled claimed they took weapons to school in the previous school year (and how many declined to admit it?); a Gallup poll conducted for Phi Delta Kappan (Elam 1993, 137 152) showed the public ranking drug abuse, discipline, and violence in the top four of the ten most serious problems affecting schools. And the depressing numbers drone on. Yet, a MetLife teacher s survey in 1993 shows that 77% of teachers and 50% of kids felt safe in and around their own schools (9). And according to a New York Times article (1994), although violent incidents in New York City s 1,100 public schools (K 12) rose 26% in 1993 94, no homicides occurred in them the first year since 1990. • 4. Essay On Muscle Injury You often hear about athletes who are unable to play their sport due to a pulled hamstring. In fact, a pulled hamstring is one of the most common muscle pulls or muscle injury. Your hamstrings are a group of three muscles that help extend your legs at the hip and flex them at the knee. A pulled hamstring is a strain or tear in the muscles or tendons. To understand what causes a hamstring injury you have to know how muscles work. All muscles work in pairs to perform a task. One set of muscles contracts to exert force while the other set of muscles relaxes. This frequently happens with the hamstring muscles. The quadriceps muscles are usually much more powerful, so the hamstring can become fatigued faster. A fatigued muscle cannot relax as easily when its opposing muscle contracts, leading to strains. Muscle strains are overuse injuries that result when the muscle is stretched without being properly warmed up. An injury to the hamstring is usually readily apparent. Mild strains may involve simple, uncomfortable tightening of the muscle. More severe injuries may result in a sharp pain in the back of the thigh, usually in full stride. A rupture or tear may leave you unable to stand or walk, muscles may be tender to the touch and painful to stretch your leg. Within a few days after a tear the area may appear very bruised. • 5. Sports Discussion On Diversity After attending the Issue in Sports Discussion on Diversity I realized many things. The main point that I took away was that diversity in the sport community is a major issue that many people tend to ignore. Dr. Laura Burton of the UConn Sport Management Program, Fluerette King of the Rainbow Center and Nicole Melton of the UMASS Amherst Sport ManagementProgram all provided their opinions on the issue of diversity in sports. They answered many highly debated questions in relation to diversity and sport and how the two fit together. They then opened the floor to the people in the audience for a chance to ask questions. Notwithstanding, this occurrence made me end with that organization and joining another. A large number of companies are unable to keep up the track of their administrations which causes them a big time loss. Each business plans to build its deal breaking its past records. Furthermore, the best way to do it is to draw in new clients as well as to keep up them after deals. An organization that prioritizes its customers will always be referred. The primary purpose behind the decrease of offers in an organization is its absence of duty to give appropriate administrations to its clients. My First Twenty Years Of One s Life The first twenty years of one s life not only holds the most dramatic physical changes, but also extensive changes in the social/emotional and the cognitive stages. Throughout my first twenty years, I have reached the majority of my physical attributes for adulthood. I have gone from a babbling infant to a well educated undergraduate student at a pristine univeristy. I have overcome evolving life circumstances, and I have, in other words, grew up. I plan to use my life experiences along with Laura E. Berk s psychological research to explain how I have learned to grow and adapt physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. As history progresses, the evolution of physical changes to the human body seems to move right along with it. According to Berk s studies, the secular trends in physical growth over the past 150 years have led to taller and heavier children in industrialized nations (p 413). Personally, my growth was lower than these new trends. I was average height, but I have stayed below weight even as I am maturing. In the prior family generations before me, many males experienced their growth spurt up into the twenties, so there is the slim chance that the usual teenage spurts didn t hit me because they tend to fall late in my gene pool. However, I was pretty normal among the physical stages of growth as a toddler. I was standing alone and walking alone at eleven months (p 184). Here I will point to several areas of historical value, such as fashion trends, technology, as well as social interactions and a view of American youth growing up during these times. Reflection Paper About Moving To Jordan As I descended through those fluffy white clouds in the middle seat of the airplane, I was overwhelmed with such incredibly nostalgic memories that suddenly rushed into my mind. However, this anxiety did not deter my excitement one bit to take on this strangely familiar adventure once again. So after swallowing my fears and seeing the breathtaking landscape from the window of the plane, I knew that I had made it back to Jordan. Last summer, I went on an incredibly fun family vacation to Jordan. However, I have to admit that I definitely was not expecting to have that level of enjoyment during my trip. One of the biggest reasons why I felt this way about returning back to Jordan was because I spoke formal Arabic. Additionally, since all of my family in Jordan only spoke and understood informal Arabic as well as a Jordanian dialect that I was unfamiliar with, I knew that I was going to struggle to communicate with them. Moreover, given that Jordan is a country that primarily speaks an informal Jordanian dialect of Arabic as its first language, I felt as if I was going to be hopeless stranger. In fact, I never really understood the importance of speaking two languages growing up. I had always thought that learning English alone was sufficient enough. The author of the book On My Honor made opposite characteristics for Tony and Joel. On the other hand, Tony is a self centered, daredevil, and unintelligent boy. (Bauer, 1) Tony just casually says, Nobody even knows if the guy was really trying to climb the bluffs. The English we speak today is different from that used by Shakespeare, and vastly different from that used a thousand years ago. Part of what it means to be a living language is that it will change over time. The reasons for these changes can be myriad. In recent years, the factors most responsible for changing the English language, both in terms of its mechanics and in terms of who is speaking it have been technology and globalism. The advent of the internet, with its attendant ability for real time communication, has changed the language because people are now writing more like they speak, and they are finding more efficient ways to do both. The global business community is also having an affect on the English Language, because it is now the Lingua Franca of choice. English has become the language most people use both in business and online. This is changing, though, as other languages become more widely spoken across the world and as the global village allows people from non English speaking nationalities to find their voices. It is becoming more important for people to be multilingual if they want to participate in a global community. This is so inspiring for me because he found an interest that both the whites and blacks of South Africa have in common that will help bridge the gap between them despite their troubled history with each other. Some characteristics of Mandela that indicate how influential of a leader he became for the people of South Africa is because of his transparence, empathy, courtesy, and humility. Mandela served as such a vital figure as a leader in uniting South Africa through his devotion to the rugby team. He understood how influential this team was to the entire nation, and he made every effort to establish a close relationship with the team by frequently meeting and speaking with the players and attending their games. Due to his valiant efforts, he did everything he could to help inspire the team by investing so much time into their success as a leader to the point where they felt that they would have failed the entire nation had they not won the World Cup. Now, this surge of success among the rugby team was ignited by the captain of the team himself, Francois Pienaar. Francois Pienaar developed into a very crucial leader for not only the South African rugby team, but for the people of South Africa. He not only led the rugby team to success on the field, but due to his close relationship with Mandela he was able to inspire and motivate his teammates towards winning the World Cup. For Pienaar, winning the World Cup meant so much more to him than simply having the opportunity to hold up a trophy, but rather to provoke ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. The Life Of Mary Shelley s Life The Life of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley It has been said on many occasions, by many individuals, that truth is stranger than fiction. Mary Shelley s life, saturated as it was by sorrow and coincidence, serves as very strong evidence of this statement s veracity. From the circumstances of her birth to her passionate life and the end of her days, Mary Shelley led a life far more interesting than any work of fiction could hope to imitate. Mary Shelley was born Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin to Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin at Somer s Town, a district of central London, on August 30, 1797. Twelve days after giving birth to her daughter Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, Mary Wollstonecraft died of puerperal fever. William dealt with his grief over the loss of his wife by writing a moving account of her life, titled Memoirs of the Author of The Rights of Woman . The biography was received negatively due to the detailed accounts of Mary s liaisons with Imlay and her suicide attempt. The honesty of the text in these regards led to the temporary destruction of Mary Wollstonecraft s already polarized reputation. William s reputation was also crumbling at the time, as his reformist ideals were losing popularity in the wake of the French Revolution. The care of Fanny and newborn Mary was left to William, although female friends and maids attended to the practical issues of parenting. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While it doesn t have a perfect answer there are simple changes that can be made to reduce food waste, Cutting down on food waste across the country is a challenge because losses happen at every stage of the supply chain, experts say. The problem starts on farms with excess crops. It extends to supersized restaurant portions, grocery stores quick turnover, and Americans tendency to overbuy. To keep produce from farms from going directly to the trash, there has to be an increased focus on quality of produce rather than appearance, Another top contributor to food waste in the U.S. is farms, says Bloom. Agricultural producers regularly leave misshapen vegetables and discolored fruits to rot on the ground. Why? The food industry has strict standards for produce s shape, size, and color. Harvesting fruits and vegetables that don t meet those standards can be financially draining for farmers. Pickers skip over other crops if they suspect the produce will no longer be at peak freshness by the time it reaches stores. For food that does end up wasted there are ways for people to dispose of it differently. One way that keeps food out of landfills is composting, Composting is an alternative to disposing of food in a landfill. Certain elements of foods can be turned into compost to feed and nourish the soil, helping to cultivate new growth. Park and recreation agencies, like those in Lansing, Michigan, have utilized composting bins to re purpose the food for their community gardens. In Ovid s The Myth of Daedalus and Icarus, the author uses a third person point of view to closely follow Daedalus and Icarus. From this, readers are more tightly attached to the characters and know more about them. Readers of this story witness the inventing and engineering of the wings by Daedalus and know the conflicting desires of Daedalus to escape from prison and to protect his son. Another worthy benefit of the gold standard is that it sets up a fixed exchanged rage among participating counties as well as abolishes exchange rate volatility. Thus, the system provides a favorable economy in promoting international trade and investment. Historically, if the price levels in the participating countries were not balanced, it would be offset by the price specie flow mechanism. which is the automatic balance of payment adjustment mechanism. For imports country, the use of gold to pay for the goods will suddenly decrease its money supply and therefor lead to deflation, making to country more competitive. Coming from a 1:1 Apple Distinguished high school, I had been exposed to a lot of technology in the classroom, which gave me an interesting start to CI 201. A highlight for me was creating the technology lesson plan. Doing this assignment was significant because as a future educator I will be making lesson plans daily, so it is extremely important that this is a skill that I continue to work on. Along with this, it was exciting to see how you can have technology incorporated into almost any Iowa Core standard. Another reason I enjoyed this assignment was because it put me into my future position, one that I am really looking forward to. For example, because I hope to someday teach kindergarten, I chose a kindergarten standard about geometry for my lesson. From there, I was able to create a student project with technology, worksheets, checklists, and a rubric. It was almost as if I was already in my future position. Another highlight from CI 201 was video chatting with Carrie. It was amazing to see how someone in the field of technology does their job on a daily basis, and get real time situations. With talking to Carrie came learning about self paced math. This is a topic that I hadn t heard about before coming into CI 201, but is extremely interesting to me. For self paced math, students learn math from videos according to what level they are at. This guarantees that no student is farther ahead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
