       Information Technology Branch managers on deployment and use strategies. Mentored enterprise

    • Install, integrate and administer Network Node Manager (NNM) 8i/9i with Operations Manager
        for Linux and other BTO/OpenView products. Develop operational test plans for NNM for De-

         Windows 2000 server. Wrote requirements for enterprise management system to integrate 12+

        management tools.


2004                  AboutWeb, LLC
•        Administered HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) and Operations Center (OVO) for the
         U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).
•        Developed monitoring system for BlackBerry mobile-Microsoft Exchange server that detected and
         reported problems with five key server processes, then paged cognizant technical staff.

2003                    Northrop Grumman Mission Systems
•        Installed and configured HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) and Operations Center
         (OVO) for the Defense Travel Service (DTS).
•        Wrote, tested and implemented UNIX shell scripts on Solaris 8 and Windows 2000 systems to monitor
         reliability of DTS host computers, including performance of critical web server processes. Combined
         these scripts with cellular text messaging and pager systems.
•        Installed and integrated CiscoWorks 2000 and Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) with OpenView.

2002-2003              General Dynamics/Veridian Corporation (formerly SIGNAL Corporation)
•       Installed, configured and deployed HP OpenView 6.3 on a Windows2000/Netware national network
        for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Integrated OpenView with CiscoWorks
        Resource Manager and Campus Manager tools. Produced daily, weekly, and monthly network
        utilization reports.
•       Coordinated with network security team in detecting and correcting SNMP vulnerabilities.
        Recommended procedures for system reconfiguration during intrusion incidents. Planned integration
        between OpenView, Cisco Intrusion Detection System (IDS), and Cisco PIX firewall log
        management.
•       Developed custom batch and shell scripts to audit remote router/switch, SNMP, and DNS
        configurations.

•        Documented requirements, goals, and system modifications for improvement of FERC’s enterprise
         management system (EMS), including correlation of Commission long-term business goals with
         specific system enhancements. Developed requirements for platform and application monitoring of
         Windows2000 servers, including performance profiles on Microsoft Exchange, DNS, and DHCP
         servers.
•        Set up small network management lab consisting of Sun Microsystems servers (Solaris 2.8), Cisco

•       Designed, specified, and purchased Sun Netra nd Enterprise servers and software for international
        digital video broadcast (DVB) network management system. Installed and configured OpenView 6.2
        and CiscoWorks 2000 for NOC and level 2/3 use. Integrated existing software into management
        system. Trimmed expensive, unused software from management system.
•       Wrote procedures for network operations center (NOC) staff to use OpenView and CiscoWorks to
        monitor and troubleshoot internal network and network-customer connectivity problems. Conducted
        informal tutorials on OpenView, CiscoWorks use, including problem solving and critical thinking
        techniques. Mentored and assisted NOC staff.
•       As part of a four-person team, diagnosed and solved network configuration, maintenance and security
        problems on a 24x7 basis.
•       Intervened successfully in network intrusion incidents and assisted network security planners in
        designing intrusion detection, access control and firewall systems and procedures.
•       Performed basic system administration tasks on E-class and Netra T1servers, and on SunBlade 100

        Network Node Manager (NNM) 5.01 & 6.10 on HP/UX 10.20 and 11.0 platforms. Tuned UNIX to
        support OpenView and NerveCenter collocated on same server.
•       Designed OpenView/NerveCenter 3.6 behavior model to monitor interface traffic levels on
        webservers.
•       Wrote UNIX sh/ksh/Perl scripts to monitor processes on distributed management servers, archive
        OpenView event data, catalog configuration changes to management systems.
•       Wrote and taught SOPs for management server administration, OpenView basics and NOC problem-
        solving techniques for system administrators and NOC staff.
•       Conducted an enterprise-wide quality assessment of Cisco router and Catalyst switch configurations.
•       Configured SystemEDGE/AdvantEDGEView agent environment for web-hosting and application
        service provider (ASP) systems on Windows 2000 servers.
•       Received Winstar “Legend” award for support to Winstar enterprise and radio NOCs.

1997-1998                 OrbComm.
•       Designed, built, and documented network management system for ground segment of OrbComm’s
        low-earth orbit (LEO) global messaging system. Developed network control SOPs, configuration
        procedures, level 2 diagnostic procedures, and operator training materials. Supported installation
        teams in Europe and Asia.

1997                    HCI Technologies, Inc. (primary client: Virginia Power)
•        Deployment team for Enterprise System Management (ESM) running under Computer Associates
         (CA) UniCenter/AgentWorks. Integrated Novell Managewise, OpenView, and AgentWorks SNMP
         agents into a single UniCenter event display. Coordinated trouble-ticket generation/resolution via CA/

         Advanced Help Desk (AHD) and CA/Inform. Wrote deployment plan for event management at
         Virginia Power.

1996-1997             The Registry, McLean, VA. (primary client: Sallie Mae)
•       Installed, configured, and tuned Cabletron Spectrum 4.0 network management system on Solaris
        servers for the 21,000-node Sallie Mae intranet. Worked with enterprise network engineering team,
        including operations center, router manager, bridge/hub maintenance staff, Unix systems
        administrators, and Worldwide website administrator to integrate Spectrum data and SAS performance
        data into web-based network performance report

1996                 SETA Corp., McLean, VA.
(primary client: U.S. Agency for International Development, USAID)
•      System administrator for USAID Solaris 2.4. Responsible for integrating Netscape Commerce Server,
       and various Unix-based text search engines (WAISSEARCH, WAISQ, SWISH, Oracle WebSite).
       Also responsible for routine system maintenance, upgrades, and user account. Wrote system
       administrative procedures and shell scripts in sh, ksh shells.


1995-1996             InoTech of Virginia, Dunn Loring, VA.
•       Consultant for network management, router and systems integration on HP, Sun, Cisco, Cabletron,
        and 3Com platforms. Integrated and deployed OpenView and related network management
        software on the U.S. Navy's worldwide medical network. Integrated SNMP proxy agents into third-
        party network management product. Worked with customer to determine specific requirements for
        enterprise network management, configuration, and control at 11 sites. Determined specific technical
        interfaces between network management system and customer's routers and e-mail servers. Developed
        network management hardware/software deployment schedules and procedures
•       Designed cross-platform host status/performance indicators (UnixWare, SCO Unix, Solaris, HP-UX)
        for commercial Internet provider's network management system using the simple network monitoring
        protocol (SNMP, awk and Perl scripts, and off-the-shelf pager system to relay network management
        events to operations center staff.
•       Trained customer staff on HP OpenView and Unix system basics. Wrote and delivered original
        training briefings. Worked with students one-on-one in network management laboratory.
