The Bonneville Power Administration ( Bpa ) Service Territory
BACKGROUND
The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) service territory is in the Pacific Northwest. In
1937, BPA was established to construct facilities required to market and transmit electric power
from the Bonneville Dam located on the Columbia River and to construct facilities necessary to
transmit that power. BPAs mandate has been expanded to be the marketing agent for power from
all of the federally owned hydroelectric projects in the Pacific Northwest, as one of four regional
Federal power marketing agencies within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
BONNEVILLE POWER ADMINISTRATION
BPA, a power marketing agency of the United States Department of Energy (DOE), supplies
roughly half of the electricity used in the Pacific Northwest. The power that BPA markets comes
primarily from 31 Federal hydroelectric projects (known collectively as the Federal Columbia River
Power System, or FCRPS), and one non federal nuclear plant. BPA is a co manager of the Federal
hydroelectric projects, but it does not own or operate them. Such responsibilities belong to the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau). For the purpose of
this case study, Bureau of Reclamation owns and operates the dams and the Army Corps of
Engineers builds and maintains the dams.
BPA does own and operate about three quarters of the Region s high voltage electric transmission
grid. BPA also promotes conservation and purchases power from several privately owned renewable

Enrique s Journey Rhetorical Analysis
8.Explain the difference between ethos, pathos and logos and why they are each effective
rhetorical strategies. Provide a real world example of each and how those examples are successful
at persuading their intended audience.
Ethos, pathos and logos are all rhetorical strategies that are used and studies today by many writers
and students all across the world. They are there to persuade and appeal to the readers thinking.
Ethos is the ethics used by the writer which is most often appeal to the reader through credibility.
Pathos is emotion, so it is the appeal to the reader through emotion in the writing. Lastly, logos
which is most often known as logic, therefore, it is the appeal to the reader through the use of logic
throughout the writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that it s safe to say I enjoyed the read and would recommend it to other readers around
the school. However, constantly it went against my thinking and made me angry quite often.
What made me so angry and upset was how often it skipped over things such as the law and tried
to hide and cover the fact that what Enrique and his mother were doing throughout the whole
story was illegal. The author constantly tried to hide the fact of the truth and try to make people
forget about the bad side of what they were doing, even though they had good intentions, it still
is hiding the truth in a sense when as a journalist you should say only the truth and the whole
story. Not try to hide things from the reader to essentially manipulate them. Another example of
this hiding is when she constantly used the word migrants instead of immigrants when people
had directly left one country into another meaning immigrants not migrants, essentially again I
think she did this because the word immigrants looks bad because often times immigrants have
tainted the word by their actions. Because of all these things, I think it was way to much of a
political agenda to appeal more to illegal immigrants. The story did spark some emotion in me as
what happens to Enrique on his journey is truly sad and makes you feel sympathetic for him. He
has to go through lots of beatings and constantly being taken advantage of throughout his whole
journey. What made me feel hopeful or Enrique is that he was able to eventually see his mother,
and that hopefully more kids can be reunited with their mothers or families, I d prefer though
that it was legally but I am happy for Enrique that he was able to see his mother. I don t think that
Enrique s Journey shouldn t be a necessary read as I think it tells a good story yet has no thing
that really is learned from it, as lots of times what it is sharing goes

Examples Of British Colonialism In Bend It Like Beckham
Bend It Like Beckham is a film that depicts British colonialist values. It shows an Indian family
struggling to keep their culture and values alive in a city where British culture is prominently
overcoming the Indian culture Jess family is trying to hold on to. In the film, Jess parents are
somewhat portrayed as the bad guys because they do not want their daughter to pursue her dream
of becoming a professional soccer player and prevent her from playing throughout most of the
movie. Her parents are portrayed as the strict, conservative Indians, while the British are portrayed
as free spirited and liberating. Instead of excluding it s immigrants, the British are in a way trying to
assimilate them and make them part of the British culture.

The Major Components, Strengths, and Limitations of Urie...
Developmental psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner first introduced the Ecologicial Systems model in
the 1970 s. Bronfenbrenner argued that to understand human development, the environment in
which the person belongs must be understood (Bronfenbrenner, U.1979). The Ecological Systems
model concentrically depicts how a person s development is influenced by their wider environment.
In the original model there were four ecological levels in the system, however in 1979
Bronfenbrenner added an additional fifth level (Bronfenbrenner, U. 1994). With the developing
person in the centre, the five progressive levels of environment include the microsystem,
mesosystem, exosystem, marcosystem and the chronosystem. The microsystem refers to the
activities, social roles and interpersonal relationships experienced by the individual in a face to face
setting in their immediate environment. Examples of a microsystem include a child interacting
with school friends and family. The mesosystem makes reference to the connections between the
different aspects of the microsystem, for example the links between family and the work
environment as the work environment can affect the family environment. The exosystem refers to
the links between two or more settings with at least one of the settings not directly influencing the
person, for example, the workplace of a parent and the home environment. The macrosystem is the
overarching paradigms of the micro , meso and exosystems. The macrosystem is the

Mcauley explains that the behavioral regulation index and the metacognition index were very
strongly associated with the parent and teacher ratings of attention problems in youth and with
behavioral or emotional problems in everyday settings. He states that the test is specifically helpful
in the instance of children with ADHD, explaining that children with ADHD have held higher
scores on the BRIEF2 when compared to their peers. The working memory scale stands out as a
scale that is particularly sensitive to ADHD children. That being said there appears to be no
significant associations between the Behavioral Regulation Index or the Metacognition Index and
youth s scores on measures of inhibition, performance monitoring, and working memory.
(Mcauley,2010). Likewise other studies have found similar results when using different
performance based tasks to examine executive function. This article praises the BRIEF2 but only in
conjunction with other tools to determine the nature of the problems that the child is having and
the proper course of action in dealing with

Why Are Teens Attracted To Gangs
Why Teenagers Are Attracted To Gangs
For some young teenagers, joining a gang can provide comfort, protection and a sense of
belonging. Among teenagers, being in a gang can enhance their popularity status with peers, who
particularly are girls. A gang is a group of three or more individuals who make a name for
themselves by creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Gangs tend to identify themselves
by a collective name, a slogan, identifying sign, tattoos or other physical markings. Statistics show
that the highest percentage of gang members are teenagers who range from the ages of 13 to 18.
Being in a gang may seem like fun, or seem cool and exciting, but in actuality it is can be
dangerous, unsafe and could be fatal. Gangs have been a part of society for many years. Most
modern gangs started as a group of people working towards one common goal, protecting their
neighborhood. Eventually, helping the neighborhood became obsolete and drug trafficking and
violence became the main focus of the organization. Lately, gang members have turned from
outcast and being frowned upon to becoming role Thompson 2 models. In recent years, the model
perceptions of gangs are now cool, respected and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gangs glorify loyalty as one of their most upheld and sacred laws. Most members of gangs refer to
each other as family, for example calling them cuz for cousin or blood meaning blood relation.
Members of the gang give each other a constant support based upon companionship, trust, and
solidarity. Some teens, who have little emotional support in their home, often have no parental
connection and live in an unsteady environment. Gangs are mostly filled with teens that are from
poverty stricken neighborhoods. Teens are often attracted to the promise of food, shelter, and
money, often given in unbelievable amounts if they were to join the

Primal Leadership Review Essay
Primal Leadership:
Realizing the Power of Emotional Intelligence
By: Daniel Goleman, Richard Boyatzis, Annie McKee
Publisher: Harvard Business School Press
Reviewer: Michael L Schwartz
General Opinions:
This book, when you cut to the heart of the matter, talks about leaders involving people, making
people feel good about themselves and what they do.
Much of the book discusses why this is true by explaining how the brain operates. There is
discussion how neurotransmitters work and how neural chemical reactions occur in the brain.
These explanations are done in lay terms so that anyone can understand them.
There are also examples given of how this has worked. And some examples are given where, due to
lack of proper implementation, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole concept of how one person s mental state can influence all those around them was very
interesting to me. Along with that how the four EI domains (Self Awareness, Self Management,
Social Awareness, and Relationship Management) are learned abilities.
For much of my life I thought that these were attributes that you either had or did not have, or
that if they were learned at all it was while you were very young and you were then set for life . I
was glad to read that research shows that these attributes can be learned later in life, that it just takes
more time and more effort.
So, the concept, noted above, that the brain can be reprogrammed to operate differently than it
had been trained to operate was very eye opening to me. That we are not hard wired from birth is
very meaningful to me. It tells me that I can continue to grow as a person and improve myself in
how I deal with others. If I only continue long enough I can and will improve all four areas of EI,
but for me, most importantly Relationship
Management.
Another important concept, for me, was that the brain can grow new cells. This indicates that
decline in mental capacities, as we age, is not necessarily inevitable. It also means that we can
develop new skills as we age. With people living and working longer, it s good to know that we can
continue to remain (mentally) active and productive. While
I m not (yet) what most people would consider old, I know people who have stopped exercising, and

Melisane Alternate Ending
Melisande gave her such a wide smile that another wave of gratification spread through Morgana s
chest. She straightened her shoulders and glanced at Merlin. He was looking at her with
admiration and she hastily turned back to Melisande before he saw how pleased Morgana was by
his appreciative gaze.
I m sorry to have intruded, my lady. The young woman lifted the green silk of her mended skirt
and executed a proper curtsey.
That s all right, Melisande. Morgana gave her a cool nod. I apologize our lesson today will be
postponed. Tomorrow, I promise, I ll make you work twice as hard.

Morgana moved toward one of the withering rose bushes. She held out a hand and whispered a
spell. The leaves spread wider and greener and the wilted flowers opened again to display vibrant
red blooms.
They re beautiful. Merlin s eyes moved over the rows of bushes and stalks in square plots. Did you
do all this? His gesture encompassed the entire tiny garden.
Yes. The spark of pride that always warmed her when she surveyed her flowergarden was
redoubled at the admiration in his gaze.
He looked around again at the stiffening plants. Then he crouched down, laid one hand on a patch
of bare earth, and spoke a spell similar to the one she had used.
Her eyes widened as every rose bush burst into blooms of all colours more colours than they had
displayed at the height of summer and every other flower awakened as if each had reached its
peak season. The cornflowers were bluer than the pale sky above and the lavender s scents
competed with lilacs in all shades from white to dark purple.
She looked at him in awe and then narrowed her gaze. Is this why you could always find flowers
to pick no matter what time of year it

Walleye Fishing Research Paper
Walleye is the most common fish in South Dakota, they are fished all over the state. Walleye
fishing at Lake Oahe has been very popular for fishing. They have had really good fishing in the
past few years. Many people go fishing for the big walleyes. The walleye population keeps going
up and down. In 2001, walleyefishing was really low but now in 2013 it is back up to its average
levels. All across South Dakota the limit is four fisha day and only one out of the four can be over
twenty inches and the rest must be over fifteen inches until July 1. Walleye population goes up

Even if there is ice on the water. Then they start ice fishing. Some of the equipment is an ice
auger, little fishing poles, and a shack for when it is really cold out. The most common bait is a
minnow on a jig. First the people need to cut a hole in the ice. Then put the shake over the hole.
Then get out the poles out and start fishing. That is how people commonly ice fish. There are
some common techniques that people use. One of them is putting a night crawler on a spinner
and trolling an area. They also do it the same way with minnows. There are many other
techniques but these are the most common ones. Other techniques to choose from are the use of
crank bait, jigging, suspended trolling, windblown shore line, and casting. One of the better
ways to fish is to try a few techniques and use the one that works the best. It also depends on the
time of year, weather, and moods of the fish. The seasons of the year determines the Walleye
mood. Early spring the walleye are really active and hungry. Most anglers use minnows as bait
during the spring of the year on the lake. The walleye tend to be found in shallower waters during
the spring also. They are found most commonly in 8 20 feet of water. They do this in order to feed

2.3.1 Physicochemical properties of soils
Soil properties are shown in Table 2.1. These soils had a loamy texture with different contents of
clay, sand and silt. pH values ranged from 4.45 to 7.73. TC was in the range of 1.6 to 8.37 %
without significant amounts of TN and TS detected. TOC varied between 1.48 and 8.37% whilst
DOC showed a wide range from 106 to 400 mg kg 1. CEC values ranged from 2.9 to 17.9 cmol kg

total As/Cd in soils were observed with R2 varying between 0.72 and 0.98 (Figure 2.1). Therefore,
within the spiked concentrations of As and Cd in this study, the soluble As and Cd during UBM

The study analyses five case studies in early years settings, focusing on one child identified with
special educational needs. The sampling aimed to choose outstanding early years provisions
graded by Ofsted. In my opinion, it would have been more interesting to include settings with
some lower grades, to look at the matter from different perspectives. Disappointingly, the authors
have not included a school nursery and only results from three out of five case studies were
discussed in the final analysis. They did not also explain how the sample of 3 settings was selected.

Teenage Wasteland By Thomas Hine
Teenagers: A Threat to Adults
A common phrase that adults can testify to hearing from any given teenager is, You don t
understand! This proves a struggle between the youth and the adults that quite possibly is never
ending. Adults make assumptions about kids, based on the way they dress, which pushes kids
further and further away. In the essay, Goths in Tomorrowland by Thomas Hine (2001), he
emphasizes the beliefs that adults began the idea of youth alienation from older societies and the
teenagers keep it that way. Donna Gaine s (2001) essay, Teenage Wasteland, discusses four
teenagers who were mocked and misunderstood by adults and reporters alike. Jon Katz (2001) lets
the kids explain themselves about their seclusion from society and the misconceptions about them
in his column, More from the Hellmouth: Kids Tell About Rage. The fear that elders show towards
young people is merely a fear of the unknown. Adults are worried about the younger generations
because of their misunderstandings of the youth culture, their failure to accept youth into the adult
society, and the instigation provoked from young people.
Misunderstanding of youth creates the gap between adults and teenagers. Many teenagers spend
their whole teen experience searching for someone to just understand them. A lot of them do not
even make it through this experience because they give up feeling that no one knows what they are
going through. Parents also fear for their kids because they do not

How Does Merlin Influence Arthur s Life
The Hollow Hills by Mary Stewart is a new twist on the classic King Arthur tale with the
spotlight on protecting Arthur for the sake of the kingdom s destiny. Over the course of the
book many important men, or lack thereof, have big influences on Arthur s life and how he will
be as a leader or family member in the future. A big influence on Arthur in this story is Merlin.
Whether Arthur realizes it or not, Merlin has really set the course of his life. Merlin helped place

they finally met, he also picked good people who he knew would affect Arthur in a positive way.

how Ralf is protective of who he loves. Uther sending Arthur away obviously influenced Arthur s

Essay about Mind And Machine
Mind and Machine: The Essay Technology has traditionally evolved as the result of human needs.
Invention, when prized and rewarded, will invariably rise up to meet the free market demands of
society. It is in this realm that Artificial Intelligence research and the resultant expert systems have
been forged. Much of the material that relates to the field of Artificial Intelligence deals with
human psychology and the nature of consciousness. Exhaustive debate on consciousness and the
possibilities of consciousnessness in machines has adequately, in my opinion, revealed that it is
most unlikely that we will ever converse or interract with a machine of artificial consciousness. In
John Searle s collection of lectures, Minds, Brains and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Proposition four is where the ends will meet the means. It purports that when we are able to finally
understand the brain, we will be able to duplicate its functions. Thus, if we replicate the
computational power of the mind, we will then understand it. Through argument and
experimentation, Searle is able to refute or severely diminish these propositions. Searle argues that
machines may well be able to quot;understand quot; syntax, but not the semantics, or meaning
communicated thereby. Esentially, he makes his point by citing the famous quot;Chinese Room
Thought Experiment. quot; It is here he demonstrates that a quot;computer quot; (a non chinese
speaker, a book of rules and the chinese symbols) can fool a native speaker, but have no idea
what he is saying. By proving that entities don t have to understand what they are processing to
appear as understanding refutes proposition one. Proposition two is refuted by the simple fact that
there are no artificial minds or mind like devices. Proposition two is thus a matter of science
fiction rather than a plausible theory A good chess program, like my (as yet undefeated)
Chessmaster 4000 Trubo refutes proposition three by passing a Turing test. It appears to be
intelligent, but I know it beats me through number crunching and symbol manipulation. The
Chessmaster 4000 example is also an adequate refutation of Professor Simon s fourth proposition:

Conformity AND Nonconformity Sucks!
To conform or to not conform is the real question. Google defines conformity as Compliance with

Black Skin, White Mask By Frantz Fanon Essay
Unit 3 Paper: Black Skin, White Mask
In the book Black Skin, White Mask written by Frantz Fanon, the author analyzes the black
community under the rule of the white dominated culture. The book is a mixture of
psychoanalysis and personal experiences drawn from his personal life. While he was living in
France. He mentions experiences from his life and includes the theories from another physiologist
in order to explain culture. He is interested in explaining the consequences of a community and or
individual when the are ripped from their culture. He argues their culture becomes inferior to the
superior culture which is the oppressive culture. One of the key points he makes is the importance
of maintaining once language. The significance of adopting the language of the oppressive culture
means once is adopting their culture and the biological aspects of the culture. To speak means
above all to assume a culture, to support the weight of a civilization ( Fanon 17).
Frantz Fanon argues being forced to adopt and or assimilate to another culture is systematical
oppression. In his book Black Skin White Mask makes an analysis of colonized black people.

Montgomery Bus Boycott Rosa Parks Arrest
Today, many people believed that the arrest of Rosa Parks in 1955 kicked off the Montgomery
Bus Boycott, and that her arrest is known to be the start of the Civil Rights Movement. To put it
bluntly, she did not start the Civil Rights Movement; the murder of Emmett Till is the catalyst
that started the Civil Rights Movement. As for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, that part is
slightly true and slightly false. Rosa Parks herself was not the first black woman who refused to
give up her seat. That right belongs to Claudette Colvin. Claudette Colvin, a 15 year old high
school student was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white couple. She was sent to
court despite the city law required passengers to move only if another seat was available, which in
this case there were no more seats available (McGuire 68). With this as major evidence, one would
think that she got off without a guilty sentence. That, in fact, did not happen. After she was found
guilty of breaking the law, Jo Ann Robinson and the WPC decided that it was time for a boycott,

A tarantulaЕ› perceives its surroundings primarily via sensory organs. Touch is its keenest since in
hunting it depends on vibrations giving off by the movements of its prey. A tarantulaЕ› hair and
spine are very sensitive and are used to sense chemical signatures, vibrations, wind direction, and
possibly sound. Tarantula has eyes that are small and are usually set in two rows of four and are
not able to see much more than light, darkness, and motion.
Male tarantulas are bright in color, smaller in size, and are more active than females. Females
tend to be plumper and more relax. It is usually impossible to tell male from female in juvenile
spiders. In adults you need to look right after a molt. At that time, a male will exhibit a structure
called the pal pal bulb on the underside of the front leg like structure called the pedipalp. He then
uses his pedipalps to deposit sperm into femaleВґs reproductive organs on the underside of her
abdomen Male tarantulas are smaller than females, making copulation dangerous for them.
Reproduction of a tarantula is very complicated. Summer and fall are the usual time for tarantulas
to mate. The male tarantula searches for a female late at night and in the evening. As the males
travel over a great distance at times, humans who see them sometimes assume they are migrating.
Actually this is simply part of the mating process of tarantulas. When he finds a willing female

Rhetorical Analysis Florence Kelley
Throughout the 1905 speech to the National American Woman Suffrage Association, Florence
Kelley uses many different rhetorical techniques in order to create an argument that allows the
audience to join her endeavors, Kelley does so by using appeals to pathos, logos, ethos, parallel
structure, diction, and rhetorical questions. Before the written speech even begins, there is a short,
one paragraph heading describing to the reader who Florence Kelley is. As said in the paragraph,
Florence Kelley was a United Statessocial worker and reformer who fought successfully for child
labor laws and improved conditions for working women. In this, Kelley is described perfectly to
any reader who might not know who she is. With the information provided the reader and
audience can go on with the speech knowing that Kelley is a credible source on the topic of child
labor laws. Kelley uses many appeals to emotion to her audience, and thus, urging her audience to
sympathize with the victims of victims of the poor labor laws. Throughout her speech, Kelley uses
repetition and imagery to establish pathos. On lines 18, 25, 29, Kelley repeats while we sleep, for

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a program that was set in place, in 1975, to improve the
economic status of low income persons [...] granting nearly $40 billion to low income
households (Borjas, 59). As is clear from the name of the program, The EITC is a program that
provides tax credits to those who qualify, the EITC could even produce a negative tax liability for
some households, in particular the type I will discuss, which would provide substantial income
increases for these households. In order to qualify for the EITC, the recipients must be active

I will look at the performance of the Earned Income Tax Credit, in terms of its ability to increase
the labor supply of single mothers, as well as any complications that may arise from the EITC

been outlined by numerous studies written by renowned Economists, such as Bruce D. Meyer and
Dan T. Rosenbaum of the University of Chicago and the University of North Carolina at
Greensburg respectively. The article by Meyer and Rosenbaum, Welfare

drawbacks of the Earned Income Tax Credit on the labor supply of single mothers. Meyer s and

Abelard and Aquinas Essay
Peter Abelard was a renowned dialectician from 1079 to 1142. He subjected theological doctrines
to logical analysis. In other words, he used rational argument to discover truth. Saint Thomas
Aquinas, was a believer in the power of reason, giving St. Augustine s theory an alternate
approach. He taught in Paris and Italy during the years 1225 to 1274. Both of these new age
thinkers changed the way Catholic followers viewed the natural world.
Peter Abelard was one of the new thinkers that applied scholasticism to his theological aspects.
According to the excerpt Scholastic thinkers assumed that some teachings of Christianity, which thy

His greatest work was
Summa Theologica. In this work he attempted to merge faith with reason, and the works of Aristotle
with the scriptures. Historically, he is seen as an alternate approach to St. Augustine s view of the
city of man versus the city of God. Augustine and Aquinas shared the belief that the original sin was
Adam and Eve s venture through the garden of good and evil. On page 239, Aquinas held that both
faith and reason came from God, they were not in opposition to each other; properly understood,
they supported each other.. He did not want people to shun the idea of reason, he wanted the world
to see that it was not evil. Combining Christianity with Aristotelian knowledge, he shed light upon
the difficulty to distinguish common ground between the natural world and the supernatural world.
The excerpt is divided into two different sections, Whether, Besides the Philosophical Sciences,
Any Further Doctrine Is Required? and Whether God Exists?. In the second section he proves five
ways God exists by using Aristotle s technique in philosophy, they are motion, nature of efficient
cause, possibility and necessity, the graduation to be found in things, and the governance of the
world. The way he words his logic is extremely confusing. For example, Now it is not possible that
the same thing should be at one in actuality and potentiality in the same respect, but only in
different respects. For what is actually hot cannot

Foreign Investment And Removal Of Trade Barrier Essay
Trade plays a key role in stimulating economies. It promotes sustainable economic growth and
development. However, for this to happen there needs to be openness. This paper is going to
discuss how increasing the level of openness of developing nations can lead to increased
economic growth. The paper will also review some of the dynamic gains that can be made from
trade before concluding with a discussion of the roles of global trade organizations in promoting
economic development. These discussions will be supported with examples of nations that have
excelled in the various aspects that will be discussed. How will increasing level of openness lead
to economic growth? Our research shows that openness leads to technological advancement,
foreign investment and removal of trade barrier. These factors can all contribute to economic
growth. First of all, if a country opens up its door and welcome foreign investors, this is a
beginning to future growth. Foreign investors bring in capital and advanced production technology
in developed countries. China is a great example of this. Former country chief Deng Xiaoping
established a couple of special economic development areas in coastal China cities in 1997. These
economic development zones had favorable tax and land policy in order to attract foreign investors.
When foreign investors established factories, capital investment and new technology were brought
in. Capital investment and advanced manufacture ring technology were

The Psychology Of Alfred Adler Essay
Alfred Alder s experiences as a child with feelings of inferiority and weak physique drove his

many obstacles in his childhood because of his health including a bone disease called rickets,
pneumonia at the age of four, and he was run over twice (Engler, 2014). Alder insisted that his
childhood was difficult and unhappy considering that his bone disease made him clumsy and

The negative outcome that may occur is the organ inferiority leading the person to develop
possible neurotic disorders, while the positive path would be ideal compensation and lead to
optimal achievements. Every individual with an organ inferiority can choose to utilize their
strengths to complete goals or dramatize their lives by trying to achieve the impossible. Vaughan
(1927) mentions five characteristics in which one should examine organic imperfection which
are heredity, disease, definite stigmata, childish defects, and reflect anomalies. Heredity was
considered the aspect of the major role in inferiority. The concept of heredity corresponds with
Alder s first definition of organic inferiority, which is inherited damage. Definite stigmata are
abnormal features that should be looked at that suggests that the person has an inferior organ

(Vaughan, 1927). Reflect abnormalities whether they are absent or exaggerated show there is a
defective physiological mechanism (Vaughan, 1927). Alder s life is an example of compensation.

The conflict between different classes in a community due to competition in socioeconomic

known as class war. According to Marx theory ever since human society emerged from its
primitive and relatively undifferentiated state it has remained fundamentally divided between
classes who clash in the pursuit of class interest . During the ancient periods, people have been
facing a lot of crisis because of creating differences among the classes of the people. The
difference in upper class that includes wealthy and powerful people and lower class which
includes working class is very wide. The richer and the powerful ones enjoy the highest degree and
most comfortable life ,but the poorer people have to live under the control of their masters. Thus,
the division between rich and poor leads to class struggle. Therefore, this essay mainly displays

their lack of understanding. The consequence of the results is the development of stereotypes that

Analysis Of Broken Promises By David Kirby
Human nature is one of the most interesting things to write about. Every day famous authors
continue to write books upon books about the struggles and adversity humanity faces every day.
They come up in the forms of novels, short stories, epic tales and poems. We can talk about
whatever we want and interpret it differently. The poem I will be analyzing in this essay David
Kirby s Broken Promises . I will give my interpretation and try to talk about every line. First, let s
start with a bit of background on David Kirby. He was born on 1944, on a farm in Southern
Louisiana. When he was young he remembered stories that his mother told him. When his
mother was a child she also lived on a farm, and there were many people living on the farm.
There were recently emancipated slaves, witches and wanderers in the wood. She led a very
interesting life on this farm. His mother was an excellent storyteller, and she passed this on to
Kirby. When he was older he went to Louisiana State University, and later he got his PhD from
John Hopkins University. When Kirby started his career he was inspired by people like John
Keats and Little Richard. Once he started writing, he wanted to bring little bits of everything
about life in his poems. He wrote long lined narrative poems. He once stated in an interview with
Craig Morgan Teicher, One thing I want to do in poems is to portray the mind as it actually works
. This may be influenced the way he wrote Broken Promises , since it personifies

Organisational culture describes the values, beliefs and behaviours which provide norms for the

culture also displays bureaucracy within a company (Sherwin, 2009). John Lewis has implemented
a role culture within their organisation allowing staff to have individual roles to complete
advantageously giving them a sense of job identity within the culture of the business.(Potter, 2010)
explains that John Lewis encourage respect, fairness, dialogue and collaboration between all staff

this shows they value importance on their employees and ensure they have a positive reputation of

Task culture is an explanation of businesses which value high importance of the tasks in hand and
make every effort of the company to complete tasks set. There is less control and influence from

The Campaign, A Good And Positive Light
Identity As we created this campaign, we developed several themes, symbols, motives and values
in order to bring the project together and ensure the audience would receive it favorably, or in a
beneficial and positive light. In the campaign, there are two primary themes, the first of which is
recognition. In general, KULT is an unknown and ambiguous organization that needs to build a
brand or an image for itself among students. The second theme of the campaign is unity. KULT
wants to be seen as an organization that offers specific services and content to students who listen
to the station or work for it. The goal of the campaign, then, is to provide a unified message to the
audience showing exactly what KULT is, what it can do for students, and what it means to be
involved. The message will unify the student body by presenting these facts, creating a sense of
understanding and interest in the station. These two themes are carried out in several ways. Our
motive is to bring students together in recognizing and understanding KULT so they can not only
enjoy it, but take advantage of it. Our values are focused around those of KULT: offering something
new and fun to benefit the panther community in whatever ways they can and building a
community in the station. We bring these elements together with a symbol: a new logo for KULT.
By tying these elements together and promoting them through the message and new logo, people
will have a better understanding of KULT and its

The Tasmanian Tiger And The Extinction Of The Tasmanian Tiger
Extinction of the Tasmanian Tiger September 7, 1936 marked the final day of the existence of the
Tasmanian Tiger. Restricted to the boundaries of its man made cage, the last Tasmanian Tiger
slipped into a never ending slumber, leaving behind a somber echo of what once was. Playing the
role of an invasive species, humans played a huge part in the avoidable extinction of this species,
along with the introduction of the dingo. The de extinction movement has presented the possibility
of bringing back the tasmanian tiger after 81 years of declared extinction. Whether this plan is
followed through with or not, the extinction of this creature brought to the attention of the world
the need to protect our ever fading species diversity. The tasmanian tiger is also known as the
tasmanian wolf or thylacine, and its binomial nomenclature is Thylacinus cynocephalus. Thylacine
roamed throughout Tasmania, which is an island off of the coast of Australia; Tasmania displays
the characteristics of a cool, temperate rainforest (Parks Wildlife Service). These creatures
presented a unique combination of characteristics; stripes glided down the their lower backs, their
tails were stiffly similar to that of a kangaroo, and their bodies were built like a canine. Both males

Assistive Technology In Special Education
This article focuses on the many forms of technology in relation to special education. The article
discusses the high and low forms of technology that is available for students with special needs to
help bypass or compensate for their disabilities. The article goes on to survey the current status of
assistive technologyfor the special educationpopulation. In the end, the article uncovers that the use
of assistive technology for the special educationpopulation is promising though uncertain.
Assistive technology has proven to be beneficial for students with learning disabilities, as it
would empower them to work beyond their normal capabilities (Lewis, 1998). An assistive
technology device can be an item, software system, or piece of equipment used to increase,
improve, or maintain the functional capabilities of a student with disabilities. It can help a
person with a disability complete tasks they need to perform on a daily basis. Assistive
technology services serve to directly assist students with disabilities in the selection or use of an
assistive technology device. For some students with disabilities, assistive technology is important
because they would not be able to benefit form their educational program. Assistive technology is
a part of the Individualized Education Plan for each student. The educational team for the student
must ask if there is a device that will improve their functional capabilities. If the educational team
discovers that the child could benefit from a device that fits that description, the school district is
required to provide the service along with training to use the device (Lewis, 1998). The author of
this article is a professor in the Department of Special Education at San Diego University. In
addition to his participation in the Department of Special Education at the University, Rena B.
Lewis, PhD is a member of the faculty of the San Diego State University Claremont Graduate
University doctoral program. She focuses much of her research on the application of technology
for individuals with learning disabilities. Her qualifications alone would make me feel confident in
her writing and findings. The article was published in the Journal of Learning Disabilities in

1950s Popular Culture
When World War II ended most countries began to progress and prosper. Of these many countries,
the United States was ready to take on new challenges that lied ahead and eventually become one
of the most powerful countries on Earth. Popular Culture and Mass Media had a tremendous
impact on people s lives during the 1950 s which shaped the way that the United States is today.
Popular culture and mass media affected the television, the average American family, teenagers,
and people involved in the red scare. During the 1950 s the television was making its way into
almost everyone s life. The television was not very popular at first until the price went down and
more people purchased it for their homes (McCormack 1). One source says, By 1962... Show more

The television had a remarkable role in the 1952 election, which was Dwight D. Eisenhower
against Adlai E. Stevenson (Parker 1). For example Richard Nixon, Dwight D. Eisenhower s vice
president, was accused of mishandling funds, but he was able to cover up his mistakes by
giving a televised speech that shifted the focus away from his mistake to his dog Checkers
(Parker 1). This allowed for Richard Nixon to easily reach out to the majority of voters and
convince them that they should still vote for Eisenhower. Another example of the usage of
television in the 1952 election was the tactic of the candidates campaigning with their wives
(Parker 1). Joel Parker writes, both Eisenhower and Nixon campaigned very visibly with their
wives ... while Stevenson was vulnerable on this front due to his status as a divorcГ© (Parker 1).
Eisenhower and Nixon both used this advantage to campaign in a more family friendly style which
could be visible almost every time they appeared on television (Parker 1). This intelligent approach
that Eisenhower and Nixon took on television ultimately led to Eisenhower becoming the 34th
president of the United

Essay on Confessions
Saint Augustine s book Confessions talks about how increasing your knowledge through reading
leads you through a conversion in which you begin to recall things and their relevance through
memory. Socrates stresses the concept of increasing knowledge as a way to grow. Socrates also
was the one who wanted to have a field day teaching Saint Augustine. Saint Augustine uses his life
to display to us the way one s quest for Godshould be like. He believed that one must begin their
journey by first reading about God through books such as the Bible. Once one believes in God,
they will have gone through a conversion in which their memory allows them to remember their
readings on God and apply them in their lives. We will be analyzing the... Show more content on

31). He clearly states that reading the book converted his belief. After going through conversion
Saint Augustine believes that your memory begins to recall the relevance of things. He describes
memory as The vast cave of memory, with its numerous and mysterious recesses, receives all these
things and stores them up, to be recalled and brought forth when required. (10.8.13 p154). He uses
this description of memory because as one is reading one does not try remembering everything, but
once one is converted everything that is in their memory starts to make sense and becomes relevant.
The concept of reading conversion and memory apply to God. It describes the quest in finding
God. One first reads about God and tries to understand him. After you have had some time to let
what you read sink in to your memory, your memory begins to recall the readings and you
understand the importance and relevance of what you read. It is because of your memories that
you undergo a conversion. Saint Augustine uses reading and memory to lead to a conversion in his
life from not believing in God to becoming a Christian. Saint Augustine confesses to God the
following Have mercy on me; heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee not to abuse thy

Aphra Behn Research Paper
Aphra Behn is not your ordinary English playwright; in fact she was an adventurous young
women. Even so, most of her early life is still a mystery today, she has accomplished goals most
women haven t in her time. During her life she s traveled, severed as a spy and even entertained
people from all around. Aphra Behn became a literate role model for later generations of women
authors. Aphra Behn was born in December 14th, 1640. She was the daughter of a barber named
Bartholomew Johnson. When she was young she traveled to many places including Venezuela and
Africa (Encyclopedia Britannica) . Later in her youth she sailed with her family to Suriname in
1663. Researchers stated her father didn t make it on the way there and died from sickness. There
is not enough evidence to back this statement, but researchers say after her father s death her family

after his death, King Charles II then hired her into the secret service. Charles II sent her to
gather information about the Dutch Military as a spy. Even with her hard work they didn t pay

southern China and found in the lower Yangtze River (Wang). Although C. auratus have been long
domesticated, their ancestors are wild fish that have adapted to survive in large rivers and hostile
conditions. Therefore, they also have the innate ability to navigate and recognize their environment

Analysis Of Blade Runner
Blade Runner: what makes a Human?
Blade Runner is a 1982 film directed by Ridley Scott. It is a loose adaptation of Do Androids
Dream of Electric Sheep? written by Philip K. Dick. It has spawned a loyal following of fans and is
seen as a cult classic by many people. The film has inspired a lot of popular culture in movies,
anime and video games (Hills, 2011). The films cult popularity is so great that it even received
theatrical rereleases with additional scenes in 1992 ( Director s Cut ), 2007 ( Final Cut ) and a
sequel in 2017.
The academic side of the film industry has given plenty of attention to this film too. There are
hundreds of articles written about it. For instance, a few articles in the Alien Zone (Kuhn ed., 1990)
mentioned this famous film and base their arguments on it. And there are certainly reasons why.
Blade Runner touches upon a variety of interesting subject and exhibits rich metaphors and
symbolism. The most engaging subject of the film, for me at least, seems to be the question of
how human are replicants. One of the best examples discussing this question is the scene in which
Rick Deckard meats Rachael and administers to her a Voight Kampff Test. The Final Cut version of
the film will be used in this analysis.
The scene is set after Deckard has been given the case of the rogue replicants. His Boss suggests
visiting the Tyrell Corporation to learn if Voight Kampff test will work on the hunted replicants as
this is the organization that builds the

Miami, Florida based distributor that offers dietary supplements. These supplements vary from
vitamins, minerals and herbs for women of all age groups. The supplements are offered through
an SNC Website and Catalog (Harvard Business Publishing, 2014). SNC offers more than 50
third party brands referred to as their stock keeping units (SKUs). Since their initial launch in
the year 2006, they have developed a private label brand for sports drinks, metabolism boosting
power as well as a vitamin line for teenage girls (Harvard Business Publishing, 2014). After
reviewing the Working Capital Simulation, I have summarized the various phases, examined why
SNC made several decisions and how their decisions were based on the existing working capital.
The selections were key determinants that affected SNC s working capital and had effects that are
associated with limited access to financing (Harvard Business Publishing, 2014).. Also, the final
metrics of SNCs Sales, EBIT, Net Income, Free Cash and the Firm s Total Value are discussed in
further detail. As CEO, I will determine whether to invest in a variety of growth and cash flow

A framework of sustainable supply chain management: moving toward new theory
Craig R. Carter and Dale S. Rogers
University of Nevada, College of Business Administration, Reno, Nevada, USA
Abstract
Purpose The authors perform a large scale literature review and use conceptual theory building to
introduce the concept of sustainability to the п¬Ѓeld of supply chain management and demonstrate
the relationships among environmental, social, and economic performance within a supply chain
management context. Design/methodology/approach Conceptual theory building is used to

Unfortunately, a review of the literature will show that the term sustainability has been
inconsistently defined and applied in the extant research. This lack of an explicit consideration of
economic criteria in current models and definitions of LSR and PSR, and the failure to
consistently define sustainability and to apply the concepts of sustainability to the field of
supply chain management, lead to the following research questions: RQ1. How can the term
sustainability be defined and applied to supply chain management? RQ2. Is there a relationship
between the integration of the concepts of sustainability and supply chain management, and long
term economic success? More specifically, do firms which engage in sustainable supply chain
management (SSCM) practices attain higher economic performance than п¬Ѓrms which
concentrate solely on economic performance? The answers to these research questions will help to
clarify and begin to defuse the debate surrounding the relationship between environmental and
social performance on one hand, and economic performance on the other. As noted by Hoffman and
Bazerman (2005, p. 16):
The key to resolving this debate is the recognition that (social and environmental) behaviors are

be created which will identify and categorise risks around the project, determine the possibility
of risks occurring, and identify the impact for the project outcome. Stage 3: Execution: tasks that
have been defined within the Project Plan will commence. Record keeping and regular status
updates will commence, regular quality and achieved deliverables updates will be communicated
to stakeholders. Staff will be allocated to resolve and monitor issues and processes. Project
completion criteria should be met and deliverables achieved. Stage 4: Closure Changes
implemented into organisation. All documentation pertinent to the project will be completed and
handed over to stakeholders for sign off. Project Closure report submitted. Reviews and
evaluation of project finalised. Benefits are assessed and lessons for future applications are
logged. Explain why is necessary to identify the stakeholders who might be involved or affected by
the project? Involved stakeholders have an interest in the outcome of the project. Their support can
be critical to the progress and outcome of the project.

Persuasive Essay On Clubfoot
Kristi Yamaguchi, the Jewel on Ice , is one of the best women ice skaters in the world (Donohue
49). She was good enough to place top five in two World Championships (33), good enough to
tour the country to perform (57), good enough to win two medals at nationals (30), good enough
to make it to the winter Olympics (48), and good enough to overcome a disability to be who she
is today (12). This disability is known as clubfoot, and with correction devices, it can be fixed
(Healthwise). There are many important details about clubfoot. Clubfoot, also known as talipes
equinovarus, is a birth defect, which mean it is there when the baby is born (Frey). Clubfoot
causes pain because it makes the foot turn sideways and inward (Weatherford 175). This disease
makes the affected foot look like a club, hence the name clubfoot (176). With clubfoot, the foot
turns toward the other foot, and those who are affected appear to walk on their heels ( Famous
People ). Imagine having to walk on a thin calf and having a high heel, which are both causes of
talipes equinovarus (Frey). Each year one in every 1,000 babies born in the United States will be
born with clubfoot. There are also 150,000 200,000 people in the world that are affected with
clubfoot each year (Blue Sky Hosts). The main symptom for clubfoot is pain, although clubfoot is
harmless in babies. There are many remedies for talipes equinovarus including corrective shoes,
wearing special braces at night, physical therapy, and possibly

Economic Chaos And Confusion Following The American...
The combination of economic chaos and confusion following the American Revolution with the
virtually nonexistent economic powers of the federal government under the Articles of
Confederation put US in a very poor economic position upon the arrival of the Constitution
(American Pageant 161). This, however, changed under the Constitution and thus during the
administration of Washington as the federal government could now have a large say in the
economics of America. After being put into office, Washington established a cabinet and assigned
Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers, to be the Secretary of Treasury. Knowing that
debt and the growing interest rates were a very large domestic problem, Hamilton set out to create a
plan for a strong economy. He first implemented tariffs, which are taxes on foreign goods coming
into the country, into his plan, hoping that it would stimulate manufacturing within the country
(Chernow 163). Although this did succeed in stimulating industry within America, it also angered
many Americans in the south and west because they did not manufacture many goods, but were
rather mainly consumers and merchants who were those being taxed the most (Chernow 153).
Another component of Hamilton s plan for economic aid was the federal assumption of state debt,
which caused many mixed sentiments between the states. On one hand, the states that owed a large
sum of money were very happy as they did not need to pay the debt anymore, at least to the

  • 2. The Bonneville Power Administration ( Bpa ) Service Territory BACKGROUND The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) service territory is in the Pacific Northwest. In 1937, BPA was established to construct facilities required to market and transmit electric power from the Bonneville Dam located on the Columbia River and to construct facilities necessary to transmit that power. BPAs mandate has been expanded to be the marketing agent for power from all of the federally owned hydroelectric projects in the Pacific Northwest, as one of four regional Federal power marketing agencies within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). BONNEVILLE POWER ADMINISTRATION BPA, a power marketing agency of the United States Department of Energy (DOE), supplies roughly half of the electricity used in the Pacific Northwest. The power that BPA markets comes primarily from 31 Federal hydroelectric projects (known collectively as the Federal Columbia River Power System, or FCRPS), and one non federal nuclear plant. BPA is a co manager of the Federal hydroelectric projects, but it does not own or operate them. Such responsibilities belong to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau). For the purpose of this case study, Bureau of Reclamation owns and operates the dams and the Army Corps of Engineers builds and maintains the dams. BPA does own and operate about three quarters of the Region s high voltage electric transmission grid. BPA also promotes conservation and purchases power from several privately owned renewable ... • 3. Enrique s Journey Rhetorical Analysis 8.Explain the difference between ethos, pathos and logos and why they are each effective rhetorical strategies. Provide a real world example of each and how those examples are successful at persuading their intended audience. Ethos, pathos and logos are all rhetorical strategies that are used and studies today by many writers and students all across the world. They are there to persuade and appeal to the readers thinking. Ethos is the ethics used by the writer which is most often appeal to the reader through credibility. Pathos is emotion, so it is the appeal to the reader through emotion in the writing. Lastly, logos which is most often known as logic, therefore, it is the appeal to the reader through the use of logic throughout the writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that it s safe to say I enjoyed the read and would recommend it to other readers around the school. However, constantly it went against my thinking and made me angry quite often. What made me so angry and upset was how often it skipped over things such as the law and tried to hide and cover the fact that what Enrique and his mother were doing throughout the whole story was illegal. The author constantly tried to hide the fact of the truth and try to make people forget about the bad side of what they were doing, even though they had good intentions, it still is hiding the truth in a sense when as a journalist you should say only the truth and the whole story. Not try to hide things from the reader to essentially manipulate them. Another example of this hiding is when she constantly used the word migrants instead of immigrants when people had directly left one country into another meaning immigrants not migrants, essentially again I think she did this because the word immigrants looks bad because often times immigrants have tainted the word by their actions. Because of all these things, I think it was way to much of a political agenda to appeal more to illegal immigrants. The story did spark some emotion in me as what happens to Enrique on his journey is truly sad and makes you feel sympathetic for him. He has to go through lots of beatings and constantly being taken advantage of throughout his whole journey. What made me feel hopeful or Enrique is that he was able to eventually see his mother, and that hopefully more kids can be reunited with their mothers or families, I d prefer though that it was legally but I am happy for Enrique that he was able to see his mother. I don t think that Enrique s Journey shouldn t be a necessary read as I think it tells a good story yet has no thing that really is learned from it, as lots of times what it is sharing goes ... It shows an Indian family struggling to keep their culture and values alive in a city where British culture is prominently overcoming the Indian culture Jess family is trying to hold on to. In the film, Jess parents are somewhat portrayed as the bad guys because they do not want their daughter to pursue her dream of becoming a professional soccer player and prevent her from playing throughout most of the movie. Her parents are portrayed as the strict, conservative Indians, while the British are portrayed as free spirited and liberating. • 5. The Major Components, Strengths, and Limitations of Urie... Developmental psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner first introduced the Ecologicial Systems model in the 1970 s. Bronfenbrenner argued that to understand human development, the environment in which the person belongs must be understood (Bronfenbrenner, U.1979). The Ecological Systems model concentrically depicts how a person s development is influenced by their wider environment. In the original model there were four ecological levels in the system, however in 1979 Bronfenbrenner added an additional fifth level (Bronfenbrenner, U. 1994). With the developing person in the centre, the five progressive levels of environment include the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, marcosystem and the chronosystem. The microsystem refers to the activities, social roles and interpersonal relationships experienced by the individual in a face to face setting in their immediate environment. Examples of a microsystem include a child interacting with school friends and family. The mesosystem makes reference to the connections between the different aspects of the microsystem, for example the links between family and the work environment as the work environment can affect the family environment. The exosystem refers to the links between two or more settings with at least one of the settings not directly influencing the person, for example, the workplace of a parent and the home environment. The macrosystem is the overarching paradigms of the micro , meso and exosystems. The macrosystem is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mcauley explains that the behavioral regulation index and the metacognition index were very strongly associated with the parent and teacher ratings of attention problems in youth and with behavioral or emotional problems in everyday settings. He states that the test is specifically helpful in the instance of children with ADHD, explaining that children with ADHD have held higher scores on the BRIEF2 when compared to their peers. The working memory scale stands out as a scale that is particularly sensitive to ADHD children. That being said there appears to be no significant associations between the Behavioral Regulation Index or the Metacognition Index and youth s scores on measures of inhibition, performance monitoring, and working memory. (Mcauley,2010). Likewise other studies have found similar results when using different performance based tasks to examine executive function. • 7. Why Are Teens Attracted To Gangs Why Teenagers Are Attracted To Gangs For some young teenagers, joining a gang can provide comfort, protection and a sense of belonging. Among teenagers, being in a gang can enhance their popularity status with peers, who particularly are girls. A gang is a group of three or more individuals who make a name for themselves by creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Gangs tend to identify themselves by a collective name, a slogan, identifying sign, tattoos or other physical markings. Statistics show that the highest percentage of gang members are teenagers who range from the ages of 13 to 18. Being in a gang may seem like fun, or seem cool and exciting, but in actuality it is can be dangerous, unsafe and could be fatal. Gangs have been a part of society for many years. Most modern gangs started as a group of people working towards one common goal, protecting their neighborhood. Eventually, helping the neighborhood became obsolete and drug trafficking and violence became the main focus of the organization. Lately, gang members have turned from outcast and being frowned upon to becoming role Thompson 2 models. In recent years, the model perceptions of gangs are now cool, respected and in ... Much of the book discusses why this is true by explaining how the brain operates. There is discussion how neurotransmitters work and how neural chemical reactions occur in the brain. These explanations are done in lay terms so that anyone can understand them. There are also examples given of how this has worked. The whole concept of how one person s mental state can influence all those around them was very interesting to me. Along with that how the four EI domains (Self Awareness, Self Management, Social Awareness, and Relationship Management) are learned abilities. For much of my life I thought that these were attributes that you either had or did not have, or that if they were learned at all it was while you were very young and you were then set for life . I was glad to read that research shows that these attributes can be learned later in life, that it just takes more time and more effort. So, the concept, noted above, that the brain can be reprogrammed to operate differently than it had been trained to operate was very eye opening to me. That we are not hard wired from birth is very meaningful to me. It tells me that I can continue to grow as a person and improve myself in how I deal with others. If I only continue long enough I can and will improve all four areas of EI, but for me, most importantly Relationship Management. Another important concept, for me, was that the brain can grow new cells. This indicates that decline in mental capacities, as we age, is not necessarily inevitable. It also means that we can develop new skills as we age. With people living and working longer, it s good to know that we can continue to remain (mentally) active and productive. The spark of pride that always warmed her when she surveyed her flowergarden was redoubled at the admiration in his gaze. He looked around again at the stiffening plants. Then he crouched down, laid one hand on a patch of bare earth, and spoke a spell similar to the one she had used. Disappointingly, the authors have not included a school nursery and only results from three out of five case studies were discussed in the final analysis. • 15. Teenage Wasteland By Thomas Hine Teenagers: A Threat to Adults A common phrase that adults can testify to hearing from any given teenager is, You don t understand! This proves a struggle between the youth and the adults that quite possibly is never ending. Adults make assumptions about kids, based on the way they dress, which pushes kids further and further away. In the essay, Goths in Tomorrowland by Thomas Hine (2001), he emphasizes the beliefs that adults began the idea of youth alienation from older societies and the teenagers keep it that way. Donna Gaine s (2001) essay, Teenage Wasteland, discusses four teenagers who were mocked and misunderstood by adults and reporters alike. Jon Katz (2001) lets the kids explain themselves about their seclusion from society and the misconceptions about them in his column, More from the Hellmouth: Kids Tell About Rage. The fear that elders show towards young people is merely a fear of the unknown. Adults are worried about the younger generations because of their misunderstandings of the youth culture, their failure to accept youth into the adult society, and the instigation provoked from young people. Misunderstanding of youth creates the gap between adults and teenagers. Many teenagers spend their whole teen experience searching for someone to just understand them. A lot of them do not even make it through this experience because they give up feeling that no one knows what they are going through. Parents also fear for their kids because they do not ... A big influence on Arthur in this story is Merlin. Whether Arthur realizes it or not, Merlin has really set the course of his life. • 17. Essay about Mind And Machine Mind and Machine: The Essay Technology has traditionally evolved as the result of human needs. Invention, when prized and rewarded, will invariably rise up to meet the free market demands of society. It is in this realm that Artificial Intelligence research and the resultant expert systems have been forged. Much of the material that relates to the field of Artificial Intelligence deals with human psychology and the nature of consciousness. Exhaustive debate on consciousness and the possibilities of consciousnessness in machines has adequately, in my opinion, revealed that it is most unlikely that we will ever converse or interract with a machine of artificial consciousness. In John Searle s collection of lectures, Minds, Brains and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Proposition four is where the ends will meet the means. It purports that when we are able to finally understand the brain, we will be able to duplicate its functions. Thus, if we replicate the computational power of the mind, we will then understand it. Through argument and experimentation, Searle is able to refute or severely diminish these propositions. Searle argues that machines may well be able to quot;understand quot; syntax, but not the semantics, or meaning communicated thereby. Esentially, he makes his point by citing the famous quot;Chinese Room Thought Experiment. quot; It is here he demonstrates that a quot;computer quot; (a non chinese speaker, a book of rules and the chinese symbols) can fool a native speaker, but have no idea what he is saying. By proving that entities don t have to understand what they are processing to appear as understanding refutes proposition one. Proposition two is refuted by the simple fact that there are no artificial minds or mind like devices. Montgomery Bus Boycott Rosa Parks Arrest Today, many people believed that the arrest of Rosa Parks in 1955 kicked off the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and that her arrest is known to be the start of the Civil Rights Movement. To put it bluntly, she did not start the Civil Rights Movement; the murder of Emmett Till is the catalyst that started the Civil Rights Movement. That right belongs to Claudette Colvin. Claudette Colvin, a 15 year old high school student was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white couple. She was sent to court despite the city law required passengers to move only if another seat was available, which in this case there were no more seats available (McGuire 68). KULT wants to be seen as an organization that offers specific services and content to students who listen to the station or work for it. The goal of the campaign, then, is to provide a unified message to the audience showing exactly what KULT is, what it can do for students, and what it means to be involved. The message will unify the student body by presenting these facts, creating a sense of understanding and interest in the station. These two themes are carried out in several ways. Our motive is to bring students together in recognizing and understanding KULT so they can not only enjoy it, but take advantage of it. Our values are focused around those of KULT: offering something new and fun to benefit the panther community in whatever ways they can and building a community in the station. We bring these elements together with a symbol: a new logo for KULT. By tying these elements together and promoting them through the message and new logo, people will have a better understanding of KULT and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Tasmanian Tiger And The Extinction Of The Tasmanian Tiger Extinction of the Tasmanian Tiger September 7, 1936 marked the final day of the existence of the Tasmanian Tiger. Restricted to the boundaries of its man made cage, the last Tasmanian Tiger slipped into a never ending slumber, leaving behind a somber echo of what once was. Playing the role of an invasive species, humans played a huge part in the avoidable extinction of this species, along with the introduction of the dingo. The de extinction movement has presented the possibility of bringing back the tasmanian tiger after 81 years of declared extinction. Whether this plan is followed through with or not, the extinction of this creature brought to the attention of the world the need to protect our ever fading species diversity. The tasmanian tiger is also known as the tasmanian wolf or thylacine, and its binomial nomenclature is Thylacinus cynocephalus. Thylacine roamed throughout Tasmania, which is an island off of the coast of Australia; Tasmania displays the characteristics of a cool, temperate rainforest (Parks Wildlife Service). These creatures presented a unique combination of characteristics; stripes glided down the their lower backs, their tails were stiffly similar to that of a kangaroo, and their bodies were built like a canine. Both males and females had backward facing pouches, indicating that thylacines are marsupials (Old 2). Sexual dimorphism was noticeable through the greater length of the males in comparison to the females (Paddle 4). A form of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Assistive Technology In Special Education This article focuses on the many forms of technology in relation to special education. The article discusses the high and low forms of technology that is available for students with special needs to help bypass or compensate for their disabilities. The article goes on to survey the current status of assistive technologyfor the special educationpopulation. In the end, the article uncovers that the use of assistive technology for the special educationpopulation is promising though uncertain. Assistive technology has proven to be beneficial for students with learning disabilities, as it would empower them to work beyond their normal capabilities (Lewis, 1998). An assistive technology device can be an item, software system, or piece of equipment used to increase, improve, or maintain the functional capabilities of a student with disabilities. It can help a person with a disability complete tasks they need to perform on a daily basis. Assistive technology services serve to directly assist students with disabilities in the selection or use of an assistive technology device. For some students with disabilities, assistive technology is important because they would not be able to benefit form their educational program. Assistive technology is a part of the Individualized Education Plan for each student. The educational team for the student must ask if there is a device that will improve their functional capabilities. If the educational team discovers that the child could benefit from a device that fits that description, the school district is required to provide the service along with training to use the device (Lewis, 1998). The author of this article is a professor in the Department of Special Education at San Diego University. In addition to his participation in the Department of Special Education at the University, Rena B. Lewis, PhD is a member of the faculty of the San Diego State University Claremont Graduate University doctoral program. The television had a remarkable role in the 1952 election, which was Dwight D. Eisenhower against Adlai E. Stevenson (Parker 1). For example Richard Nixon, Dwight D. Eisenhower s vice president, was accused of mishandling funds, but he was able to cover up his mistakes by giving a televised speech that shifted the focus away from his mistake to his dog Checkers (Parker 1). This allowed for Richard Nixon to easily reach out to the majority of voters and convince them that they should still vote for Eisenhower. Another example of the usage of television in the 1952 election was the tactic of the candidates campaigning with their wives (Parker 1). Joel Parker writes, both Eisenhower and Nixon campaigned very visibly with their wives ... while Stevenson was vulnerable on this front due to his status as a divorcГ© (Parker 1). Socrates stresses the concept of increasing knowledge as a way to grow. Socrates also was the one who wanted to have a field day teaching Saint Augustine. Saint Augustine uses his life to display to us the way one s quest for Godshould be like. He believed that one must begin their journey by first reading about God through books such as the Bible. After going through conversion Saint Augustine believes that your memory begins to recall the relevance of things. He describes memory as The vast cave of memory, with its numerous and mysterious recesses, receives all these things and stores them up, to be recalled and brought forth when required. (10.8.13 p154). He uses this description of memory because as one is reading one does not try remembering everything, but once one is converted everything that is in their memory starts to make sense and becomes relevant. The concept of reading conversion and memory apply to God. It describes the quest in finding God. One first reads about God and tries to understand him. After you have had some time to let what you read sink in to your memory, your memory begins to recall the readings and you understand the importance and relevance of what you read. It is because of your memories that you undergo a conversion. Saint Augustine uses reading and memory to lead to a conversion in his life from not believing in God to becoming a Christian. The film has inspired a lot of popular culture in movies, anime and video games (Hills, 2011). The films cult popularity is so great that it even received theatrical rereleases with additional scenes in 1992 ( Director s Cut ), 2007 ( Final Cut ) and a sequel in 2017. The academic side of the film industry has given plenty of attention to this film too. There are hundreds of articles written about it. For instance, a few articles in the Alien Zone (Kuhn ed., 1990) mentioned this famous film and base their arguments on it. And there are certainly reasons why. Blade Runner touches upon a variety of interesting subject and exhibits rich metaphors and symbolism. The most engaging subject of the film, for me at least, seems to be the question of how human are replicants. One of the best examples discussing this question is the scene in which Rick Deckard meats Rachael and administers to her a Voight Kampff Test. The Final Cut version of the film will be used in this analysis. The scene is set after Deckard has been given the case of the rogue replicants. Unfortunately, a review of the literature will show that the term sustainability has been inconsistently deп¬Ѓned and applied in the extant research. This lack of an explicit consideration of economic criteria in current models and deп¬Ѓnitions of LSR and PSR, and the failure to consistently deп¬Ѓne sustainability and to apply the concepts of sustainability to the п¬Ѓeld of supply chain management, lead to the following research questions: RQ1. How can the term sustainability be deп¬Ѓned and applied to supply chain management? RQ2. Is there a relationship between the integration of the concepts of sustainability and supply chain management, and long term economic success? More speciп¬Ѓcally, do п¬Ѓrms which engage in sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) practices attain higher economic performance than п¬Ѓrms which concentrate solely on economic performance? The answers to these research questions will help to clarify and begin to defuse the debate surrounding the relationship between environmental and social performance on one hand, and economic performance on the other. She was good enough to place top five in two World Championships (33), good enough to tour the country to perform (57), good enough to win two medals at nationals (30), good enough to make it to the winter Olympics (48), and good enough to overcome a disability to be who she is today (12). This disability is known as clubfoot, and with correction devices, it can be fixed (Healthwise). There are many important details about clubfoot. Clubfoot, also known as talipes equinovarus, is a birth defect, which mean it is there when the baby is born (Frey). Clubfoot causes pain because it makes the foot turn sideways and inward (Weatherford 175). This disease makes the affected foot look like a club, hence the name clubfoot (176). With clubfoot, the foot turns toward the other foot, and those who are affected appear to walk on their heels ( Famous People ). Imagine having to walk on a thin calf and having a high heel, which are both causes of talipes equinovarus (Frey). Each year one in every 1,000 babies born in the United States will be born with clubfoot. There are also 150,000 200,000 people in the world that are affected with clubfoot each year (Blue Sky Hosts). The main symptom for clubfoot is pain, although clubfoot is harmless in babies. • 53. Economic Chaos And Confusion Following The American... The combination of economic chaos and confusion following the American Revolution with the virtually nonexistent economic powers of the federal government under the Articles of Confederation put US in a very poor economic position upon the arrival of the Constitution (American Pageant 161). This, however, changed under the Constitution and thus during the administration of Washington as the federal government could now have a large say in the economics of America. After being put into office, Washington established a cabinet and assigned Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers, to be the Secretary of Treasury. Knowing that debt and the growing interest rates were a very large domestic problem, Hamilton set out to create a plan for a strong economy. He first implemented tariffs, which are taxes on foreign goods coming into the country, into his plan, hoping that it would stimulate manufacturing within the country (Chernow 163). Although this did succeed in stimulating industry within America, it also angered many Americans in the south and west because they did not manufacture many goods, but were rather mainly consumers and merchants who were those being taxed the most (Chernow 153). Another component of Hamilton s plan for economic aid was the federal assumption of state debt, which caused many mixed sentiments between the states. On one hand, the states that owed a large sum of money were very happy as they did not need to pay the debt anymore, at least to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
