Sexually Transmitted Diseases Are Caused By A Wide Range...

Immunotherapeutic Strategies
Sexually transmitted diseases are caused by a wide range of viruses. The most common viruses are:
HIV 1, HSV 1/2, and HPV. Often the contraction of these viruses goes undiagnosed until the patient
has acquired severe symptoms, by this time they have also transferred the disease to another
individual. For this reason, the importance of developing and understanding immunotherapeutic
strategies has become essential for immunologists (5). There are many factors that contribute to viral
infection, therefore, targeting these virus specific factors is a key to preventing viral spread to
neighboring cells. Factors like viral attachment, entry, un coating, synthesis, assembly, and ... Show

Cytokine therapy has been a crucial advance in the treatment of HIV because this disease is highly
affiliated with cytokine production. Cytokines are inserted in tumor cells as immune stimulatory genes
(5). Following insertion, the patient is injected with a cytokine based vaccine which is used as a
therapeutic measure for cancer prevention in patients that have HPV. Activation of cytokines (IL 2, IL
12, GM CSF) have been theorized to inhibit the growth on tumors. HIV is linked to a decline of the
host s immune system response and decrease of CD4 T cells, therefore cytokine therapy enables the
production of these cells by treating patients with IL 2 (5). HPV has been associated with cancer and
there is no cure for HPV, however, there are preventative and therapeutic medications (2,6). In the
case of HPV vaccination, natural killer cells are activated which induce an immune response. Immune
modulators have suppressive and stimulatory effects on macrophages. Stimulation allows for the
secretion of cytokines which allows the immune system to produce antibodies due to the high antigen
presentation in dendritic cells.
Although these viruses often remain undetected, HSV typically causes a more visible and painful
reaction in the infected tissues. Shedding of the HSV virus is prominent when the symptoms occur (1).

What Is The Striders Poem
Whereas for Ramanujan the animal is not mere a symbol caged in human world rather it is a
messenger of spirituality and thus of ultimate freedom. In his most celebrated and discussed poem The
Striders Ramanujan forcefully puts forward the inevitability and indispensability of animals and
insects in our life when he deploys a water bug as the metaphor to represent his poetic ideas:
Thin stemmed, bubble eyed water bugs
See them perch on the dry capillary legs
Weightless on the ripple skin of a stream (The Striders, p. 03. At Poli Ready, 69)
Here, the water bug is striding the flowing stream with its thin legs in the running water maintaining
the balance. Spiritual connotations of this instance of the bug maintaining the balance on running
water tell of its harmony with nature and adaptability to life better than that of humans. Such poems,
wherein Ramanujan celebrates his past mingled with animal world, speak of poet s self reflexivity and
craving for some lost values.
Nevertheless, the new age typical post colonial writers like Adiga do not show ... Show more content

They foil any attempt of escape as it is never locked from outside by the exploiters. Adiga resorts to
animal world again to describe this perennial system and workings of rooster coop and thus slavery
system. In Delhi Balram witnesses such sullen and horrific reality:
I saw a buffalo coming down the road, pulling a large cart behind it. There was no human sitting on
this cart with a whip; the buffalo just knew on its own where to go. And it was coming down the road.

Coping Strategies, Coping Inventory, Self Regulation And...
Coping Strategies, Coping Inventory, Self Regulation and Resilience in Regards to Anxiety or Stress
on an Athletic Trainer What is stress? Hans Selye was the one who coined the word stress . Selye
defined stress as a non specific response of the body to any form of demand for change. Just as the
way Selye defined it, stress is the way the body responds to any type of demand. Stress can be caused
by both bad and good experiences. When a person feels stressed by something occurring around him,
his body reacts by realizing certain chemicals into the blood. Such chemicals give the person more
strength an energy that can be a good thing if physical danger is what causes his stress. Though, it can
also be a bad thing is his stress is response to an emotional thing as there would be no outlet for such
extra strength and energy. Stress Responses Stress is majorly is a physical response. When the
individual is under stress, his body perceives that it under pressure (attack) and consequently switches
to flight or fight mode, producing various chemical and hormones such as norepinephrine, cortisol,
and adrenaline to prepare body to become active for physical action. This triggers various reactions
such blood moves to muscles to close down unnecessary functions of the body like digestion, muscles
tighten, break quickens, senses become more focused, blood pressure increases, and heart beats faster.
Such physical changes increase stamina and strength, speed

The Story Of The 12 Spies
The story of the 12 spies seems to be a story of doubtfulness. Everyone has a sense of doubt because
we are human beings. Life is full of obstacles that you must get over. All obstacles are able to be
conquered, however our most mighty warrior is God. He must learn to not doubt his ability to bring us
through the many storms he places before us. He uses these storms to test our faithfulness in Him.
In this part of the book of Numbers, the spies are sent to look into the land that had been promised to
His people. The part that stood out was the two different stories that came back and how the ten spies
had no faith in the ability of God s promise.
Time after time, God proved to the people of Israel that nothing could defeat them if they just believed
in His word and be faithful to His will. The Lord promised Abraham that his people would be a
mighty nation, Abraham believed and was one of God s most faithful servants.
God used Moses to bring the people out from under the enslavement of Pharaoh. He brought them
through the Red Sea, however the people still doubted that God was powerful enough to bring them to
their own inheritance that waited for them.
The people of Israel, just like people of today, were impatient. Everyone wants instant gratification. In
my workplace, we have new employees that have worked there less than six months and feel they are
entitled to the same things as the employees that have put in work for ten years and over.
I feel this was one of the

Mexico Family Structure
IV. SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS
a) Family
In Mexico, the family remains the most important social institution. Such, is considered to be the main
support and protection system among all for Mexicans. Primary ties are structured through blood
descent, which comes from the mother s and father s sides. Therefore, every person is a member of
two family lines. In addition, the Parentela or extended family usually includes all the descendants
from the grandparents. For this reason, it is normal for a person to have a numerous extended family.
According to the CDC, Mexico has traditionally been home to the patriarchal family structure. The
father usually works and provides for the family while mothers take care of the household. However,

Due to Mexico´s historical background with Spain, Mexico´s legal system comes from the Civil Law
Tradition. Also, different law systems such as the Roman, canon, and medieval commercial, also had

The laws are approved or rejected by the judicial power. The judicial branch also has the right to
impose taxes, declare war, approve the national budget, and approve or reject treaties with foreign
countries. Such decisions are based on the principles found in the Federal Constitution, the most
important political document in which the Mexican law had its origins. The Mexican constitution was
established in 1917 and dictates a federal, democratic, representative Republic composed of free and
sovereign states (ref 12). The constitution also established a centralized federal government and

The Battle Of The Algiers Essay
Terrifying and placid and terrifying because of its placidity, the plot unfolds gracefully: a beautiful
twenty something Islamic woman, dressed in a Western ensemble, arrives at a chic and exclusively
French café in Algiers. She walks into the café, orders a classic Coca Cola, and discreetly places her
explosive toting handbag on the ground. A few sips of the cola and the disguised Algerian woman
heads out, with surveying eyes gazing about the happy French faces which will be no longer in just
moments. The bomb explodes, killing several French lives, and striking a small victory in the overall
battle of the FLN against France in reclaiming their own land. This scene peeks into the later victory
of the anti hero in Gillo Pontecorvo s The Battle of the Algiers. The film paints a largely accurate
picture of popular support for the FLN. While Algeria can be seen as being depicted as a terrorist
nation, employing low and grimy tactics against France, the viewer can t help but sympathize, and
even root for the underdog. The film highlights the misery within the poor peasantry of the Algerian
lifestyle in their home country. We are introduced to Ali La Pointe in the opening scene, cramped in a
literal hole in a wall, hiding from execution from the French government. The conditions of the home
are grotesque and while you don t know much about what is to come, you know you wish you could
better the situation of La Pointe and the others (including children) in this domestic prison.

If you read Wall Street s reports, they don t talk of soya bean as originating in China. They don t talk

Ready Soybeans a crop system that is no tastier, no healthier, and no cheaper than the way Soybeans
have been grown in the past?
Roundup Ready Soybeans
Monsanto s Roundup Ready Soybean (RRS) is a genetically engineered variety of soybeans, which
contains gene sequences from a cauliflower mosaic virus (CMV), a petunia, and a bacterium
(Agrobacterium sp.) (Greenpeace, 1997). The two bacterial genes, in short, provide for resistance
against Roundup, resulting in a crop of soybeans that can be sprayed with Roundup to protect it from
weeds, while not injuring it. In 1996, U.S. farmers harvested about 1.2 million acres of Roundup
Ready Soybeans, and although this crop represented only about 2 percent of U.S. soybeans, it will be
mixed with conventional soybeans unlabeled to become part of as much as 60 percent of all processed
foods that contain some soy based ingredient (Bruno, 1997). In the United States, most consumers are
likely to have already ingested small amounts of transgenic soy in such common food as margarine,

Witch s Calendar Chapter 6 Summary
Chapter Six: Witch s Calendar
Wheel of the Year festivals represents the active and passive states of nature, man and cultivation.
Each of the festival periods was ruled by a ruling deity, whether a God or Goddess, with each part
having its own related deity. From sowing to reaping to winter to summer... the seasons were of vast
importance to our ancestors, for their very survival rested on fruitful harvests, moderate winters, and
adequate rainfall.
Our days start at dusk on the preceding day. Accordingly, November 1st is really midnight of October

This is the Pagan Easter or rather, this is the day that Christians adopted to be their Easter. It is
generally the day of symmetry, neither bitter winter nor the relentless summer. In old days, Ostara was
a season of sowing and growing. Today, Ostara is a chance for setting projects into motion, sowing the
grains of ideas that may not come to fruition for many months. Decorated eggs, baskets of blossoms
and such are commonly utilized to adorn the house. As a period of symmetry, it is an excellent time to
perform self banishings and also perform workings to obtain elements we have lost, or to obtain
qualities we long to have.

Beltane a festivity of purification.

Strange Fruit Poem Analysis
In the music video/song Strange Fruit , the phrase strange fruit doesn t really refer to a fruit that is
strange. It actually refers to people being lynched and hanging from trees. More specifically, the term
strange fruit applies to the lynching of African Americans. This song was performed by Billie Holiday
in 1939 at the Cafe Society in New York. The music video was actually a recorded performance from
1959. The song was written and performed because the purpose of was to raise awareness and fight
against African American lynching because during that time, African Americans were being
discriminated and abused. Billie Holiday in the music video/song Strange Fruit displays logos through
context and imagery, pathos through her sorrowful tone and facial expressions, and lastly, ethos
because she won many awards during her career in singing, and Strange Fruit is one of them. The
lyrics of the song have contains a handful of imagery describing African Americans being lynched.
For example, Blood on the leaves and blood on the root , is a very descriptive example and puts an
image in your mind of seeing a tree with African Americans hanging with blood dripping from their
bodies (genius.com). This line makes it seem like the blood that is dripping from the people hanging is
feeding the tree s root, and this could symbolize growth because America was a growing country back
then and still is today. Back then, African Americans were physically and mentally abused, and the
point of the song was to put an end to that and it did eventually. Today, African Americans are still
being discriminated for job opportunities because of stereotypes people made that make African
Americans look bad. Throughout the course of time, we did make changes, which relates to the line,
Blood on the leaves and blood on the root . Another line the depicts a very cruel image is, Here is fruit
for crows to pluck (genius.com) This line has a very dark meaning and image because crows always
symbolize evil and darkness. The fact that this line puts a picture of bodies being devoured by crows
in your mind, proves that Holiday uses very strong imagery in the context of Strange Fruit. From these
two lines from the song, we learned that

Bell Hooks Art On My Mind Summary
When most people think about art, the first thing to come to mind would usually be paintings that are
hung up in a museum. Unless you really understand the value of art you may not believe me when I
say the value of art is essential to the well being of free individuals. This idea can be supported by Bell
Hooks story named Art On My Mind . Her story starts off explaining her childhood and her quest to
understand art. Ms. Hooks was able to paint beautiful pictures at a youthful age as noted by her art
teacher Mr. Harold. Her family did not think art was a genuine approach to make your living and
never considered Bell s talent important. Even though Hooks parents never supported her talent for art
her art teacher continued to encourage her. During that time school just became desegregated, so even
though Mr. Harold ( who is white) seemed as if he was ok with being around colored people, Hooks
did not feel as if she can fully believe everything he has to say since she was taught that white people
were not able to understand black lives. Besides Mr. Harold, Hooks had some one else to talk about art
with which was her sister G.. The conversation started off when she asked what she thinks about art,
and more importantly what she thinks most black folks are thinking about art. And she responds with
art is just too far away from our lives, that art is something in order to enjoy and know it, it takes
work. This shows that black people do not believe that working to enjoy

Assemblage art is the process of an artist creating a piece of work out of objects and materials rather
than just paints and brushes. Assemblage art interests me more because of the history of the materials
before it was created into a work being displayed. The specific artist used other s scraps and trash to
assemble a piece of art greater than both people combined and the ending product comes out to be
something a lot more significant than trash . Although I don t know much about assemblage art and
the process of it, I can interpret it for hopefully what the artist wanted me to and I can find the
significance within it. The piece of work I chose to analyze comes from the Wexner Center for the
Arts here at Ohio State University. This piece of art was made in 1988 and comes from the Terri and
Michael Smooke Collection, its name is The Last Supper. Though I didn t learn about assemblage, I
was exposed to the relevance of one of the most historically significant paintings by Leonardo da
Vinci, The Last Supper. This late 15th century painting is a religion icon and depicts Jesus Christ and
his 12 disciples at their last supper before Jesus was sent off to get crucified. I believe the piece of art I
analyzed was clearly inspired by Leonardo s The Last Supper due to the same name and key
similarities I found in the painting. For starters, my painting doesn t have any human figures
represented in it but instead just silverware, plates , and sardine cans. The sardine cans near

I Tend My Flowers For Thee Rhetorical Devices
Emily Dickinson s I tend my flowers for thee (Fr 367) is traditionally read as an expression of longing
and desire. Her use of vivid descriptions of nature conjure images of soft petals juxtaposed against
those thorny cacti and the notion of dreams interrupted by violent passion. However, a feminist
reading of the poem reveals that it is Emily Dickinson s critical commentary on the patriarchal
ideology that a woman s sense of personal fulfillment is contingent upon the presence of a romantic
partner. The poem is iambic and each stanza follows the pattern: tetrameter/ dimeter/ trimester/
trimester. Its rhyme scheme reads: AABB/ CCDE/ FGHIJJK/ LMNMM/ OOAOOPA. Dickinson

I tend my flowers for thee is wrought with vivid descriptions of not only plants and flowers, but also

that, in order to increase critical productivity, students should read Dickinson s poems in tandem with
excerpts from Belknap Press s facsimile reproduction of Emily Dickinson s Herbarium. Marshall goes
on to explain that this process will encourage interactivity between the students and Dickinson s
poems within the often abstracted discipline of literary studies . This pedagogical technique also offers
critical benefits, such as pushing students to think critically about the curatorial practices that
influence the texts they work with, focusing attention on Dickinson s material writing practices,
providing a context for understanding more unusual poems, and even forging a way for students to see
connections between poetic practices and ecological practices (Marshall 58 59). This method of

The Culture Of The Italian Cuisine

Italian 21
9 December 2016
Cucina Italiano In the early history of many countries, food always plays an important part in the
development of the country and the economy as well. From starting out simple, the recipes evolve and
spread after being handed down and spoken to others. Food is what defines many cultures, and is able
to bring many people together in many cases. For example, food is what stands a major tradition in
many families, recipes being a secret between the members. This is one way that it plays in
importance in cultures. Italian culture differs from other cultures because the food plays a much more
important part. Italian cuisine has influenced many parts of their own culture, and other cultures
around the world. Food has always played a major part in three major aspects of Italian culture:
history, symbolism, and art.
The history of Italian cuisine revolves around the evolution of what people were compelled to eat
throughout the ages. Once, food was thought to be little more than macaroni or noodles in the Italian
Peninsula. Many factors are considered in the study in the history of cuisine, such as the location,
climate of the area, the cooking methods of that time, religious practices, etc.. Angelo Camillo, a
professor at Woodbury University, explains in his book, An Explorative Study of the Historical
Development and Trend Analysis of Restaurant Cuisine, that The history and evolution of Italian

Essay Dualism in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho
The characters in Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho (1960) each have a dual nature that is masterfully
portrayed through character development and use of mirrors throughout the film. The very first shot in
Psycho is zooming in from an open view of the city where it is a bright and sunny day. As the shot
zooms in further and further it comes into a dark and shaded room that shows Marion Crane (Janet
Leigh) and Sam Loomis (John Gavin) having an affair in a undisclosed hotel. This is dualistic image is
just one example of many that Hitchcock has placed in this film. Marion Crane is the first main
character that is focused upon for the first half of Psycho. All that Marion Wants, after all, are the

Marion s death is very symbolic and dualistic in a multitude of ways. The fact that Marion is
nonetheless murdered after her self realization suggests that neither she nor the society that produced
her is recuperable (Gottlieb, Brookhouse 362) [Christopher Sharrett 362] Once Marion had made that
fatal mistake to become a criminal, she was destined to die as a criminal, with no chance of salvation.
This is very dualistic of the ending of the frontier, which was right around the time Psycho was
produced. the movement of the film is steadily downward and inward, away from the feeling of
daylight, abundance, and expanse to a nightmarish claustrophobia that exteriorizes the unconscious
mind. (Gottlieb, Brookhouse 362) [Christopher Sharrett 362] The image of the West being a gigantic
open expanse was coming to an end and Hitchcock showed that the frontier was finished and there
was no chance of it coming back. Hitchcock places a large amount of dualism between the characters
of Marion, Sam, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), and Lila Crane (Vera Miles). The first couple, Sam
and Marion, engenders the second, Norman and Marion: Norman has thus taken the place of Sam. Yet
he has actually, diegetically speaking, taken the place of Marion, given the mirror dialectic between
the sexes and their psychic structurations. (Deutalbaum, Poague 357) [Bellour 357] The couple of
Marion and Sam never got a chance to be married, but as the film goes through the

in Washington. LeBron James led the Heat with 23 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while Dwyane
Wade added 13 points and Chris Bosh had 12. The Heat led for most of the way behind strong play
from their three superstars and a solid defensive effort. It was one of the few times they were able to
produce a balanced scoring effort. Despite James leading the way again, they had four starters score in

Gumbo is a dish that is made differently depending on the cultural background of the person making

from Africa and was defined as a soup dish (Owens 1). Ingredients such as, chopped onions, shrimp,
andouille sausage, chicken, salt, garlic, celery, parsley, bell peppers, okra, and roux are what make up

During the ninetieth century, the Victorians debate over women s behavior. In Jennifer Swartz Levine
s article Staking Salvation: The Reclamation of the Monstrous Female in Dracula she comments about
The concept of the Angel in the House the pure, virtuous, non sexualized female is one of the most
monolithic and immobile depictions of Victorian womanhood (Swartz Levine 2). At the time the belief
of following the Victorian society s set limits would be beneficial while wrongdoers would be
punished. Victorians at the time were to believe in women being pure and non sexual, like Stoker s
character Mina Harker. When characters like Lucy and the other three female vampires act apart from
Mina, morals come into question. However, Stoker feeds into the fear of contamination and
punishments because he sets female sexuality apart from femininity in order to show female sexuality
as wrong or monstrous. He portrays the standard Englishwomen as non sexual and anything different
deviant or unnatural. In the beginning of the novel when the vampire is trying to seduce Johnathan he
says he seemed to know her face, and to know in connections with some dreamy fear, but could not
recollect at the moment how or where (Stoker 38). After this passage he mentions Mina, making the
reader draw the connection that he knows the familiar female face because of his fiancé. Jonathan in

Reaction one was an exothermic reaction. This was determined simply because when nitric acid was
mixed with the copper wire a significant amount of heat was given off to the surroundings, therefore
the reaction had to be exothermic. Reaction two was exothermic as well. This was determined because
precipitation reactions are always exothermic as the formation of a solid is a decrease in entropy so
delta S is negative which means that enthalpy would be negative, therefore it is an exothermic
reaction. Reaction three is an endothermic reaction. This was determined simply because a
decomposition reaction is carried out through the addition of energy, usually heat to break down a
compound, therefore the addition of heat to carry out to the reaction means it has to be endothermic.
Reaction four was exothermic. This was determined because it was an acid base neutralization
reaction. Acid base neutralization reactions are always exothermic as they release heat from the
system to the surroundings. Reaction five was endothermic. This was determined because the reaction
sped up when heated. The reduction of Copper Sulfate to Copper occurred at room temperate when
Hydrochloric Acid and Aluminum were combined. However, when the beaker was put on a hot plate
the reaction occurred noticeably faster therefore indicating that it

The Influence Of Radical Feminism On Law
Feminist thought has influenced many different arenas of life. One of the most prominent streams is
radical feminism, that seeks to eradicate patriarchy in the United States and implement a system of
law that favors women because of their former state of oppression. Patriarchy, or the oppression of
women by men, is the cornerstone of feminist campaigns. This paper covers three distinctive
influences that radical feminism has had on law in the United States. Radical feminism has influenced

The idea of patriarchy is a key concept in the discussion on feminism. Patriarchy, in its most basic
sense is the domination of men over women in every aspect of society, both civil and legal.
Furthermore, an article by Lynne Henderson adequately describes what patriarchy is and its
connection to the legal realm, Thus, feminists concerned about law often frame the issues in terms of
law s relation to patriarchy. Although patriarchy technically refers to families ruled by a senior male
patriarch, it more generally refers to systematic domination and subordination of females by males.
Moreover, patriarchy can be seen as a driving force that rallies feminists around women s rights.
Patriarchy is crucial to understanding feminism with its desire for legal reform, and the elimination of
patriarchy. Owen M. Fiss describes the reality of the oppression that radical feminists believe still
exist, They [feminists] do not condemn discrimination solely because it entails unfair treatment to
some identifiable individuals, but rather because of its role in subordinating women as a group and
thus creating and perpetuating a gender

Hello I am Rokhaya, I am a 20 year old, qualified Marine Biologists by the University of California,
Los Angeles: Marine Biology Major. I live in Kitch iti kipi Michigan. Over 19 years I have studied the
Great Lakes(I started studying in 1949) I have noticed a major difference from the 1950s to 2017.
Pollution in the Great Lakes is a big problem and it is very serious. Water pollution affects health of
the living organisms in the lake, and soon it can affect the health of us human too. Water Pollution
occurs when, people dump their stuff into the water, and factories dump their stuff into the water etc.
This is an example of non point pollutionm. Firstly, it affects the organisms life because all or trash

In the last years, invasive species have i remeber sypupchanged the Great Lakes ecosystem. These
changes have affected the economy, health, and recreation. Once invasive species entered the Great
Lakes its hard to stop them. Some examples of invasive are sea lamphrey, zebra mussles, round goby,
and alewife just to name a few. Zebra Mussles are a problem because they clog pipes, stick on
everthing and anything, eat native species food, and clean waters alowing sunlight to come in the
water thats gives power to nasty plants to grow. Asian carp are of concern because they have been
found in nearby waterways that eventually connect to the Great Lakes. Scientest began to construct a
eletric fence to prevent asain carp from getting in the Great Lakes. This Great Lakes ecosystem is
home to hundreds of thousands of plant, fish, and wildlife populations. All of these species, breed,
grow, and live on the shore, or in the Great Lakes. These places have been changed because of
humans. Forest have been cut down, pollution has been in our lake, water sheds paved and wetlands

Social Constructs And Its Effect On Society
From the beginning of recorded history, especially in nature, some form of racism and sexism have
existed. They may have no be referred by these terms but evidence exists in many forms. Birth
determinants like the sex (male/female) and gender (masculine/feminine) of a person are used to
determine the individual s appearance and behavior in a specific time and place. These social
constructs are ideologies that hold meaning to a concrete society because the society itself renders
them meaningful; they do not necessarily exist but are enforced upon the masses disguised as a
necessary norm. It serves a purpose; to solidify an idea that serves as a norm. Whoever doesn t
conform to it is considered deviant. It is definitely not beneficial to all ... Show more content on

Unfair treatment of human beings is a crime against humanity because every person should have the
right to dress, talk, live, peruse what feels right for them and not being limited to what the society
propels as being the right thing to do. People fail to realize that there are being violated, and
unconsciously accept the violation as a norm. Two of the most notorious social constructs are racial
and sexual classification of human beings. People are treated with the utmost disrespect, are ostracized
and denied basic human rights/life chances such as education, housing, health care based on their race,
gender and sexual orientation. Karl Marx, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Michel Foucault, Erving
Goffman conjure up theories that sheds light on the fact that racial and sexual classifications are social
constructs set in place to ensure that the elite gets the power they desire. The elite, a select group that
holds superiority over others use social constructs as way to control the masses and gain more power.
They do so by relying on people s sense of knowledge and truth. According to Foucault, a French
philosopher and a social theorist, knowledge is power Foucault uses the term power/knowledge to
demonstrate the fact that power is built through acceptance of some sort of knowledge, scientific
understanding and truth (Foucault 1998). Eeach society has their own sets of truths which they abide
by; acceptance of that truth makes it powerful. The one who has the

Ambition and the Downfall of Macbeth, Idi Amin, and,...
Ambition is a force that helps drive societies forward. When the power of a nation falls in the hands of
a single person ambition takes many spectacular and ugly forms. It can be both the making and
destruction of that person but regardless of the net effect, ambition will have deep socio economic,
political, and cultural roots. Three dictators were taken by ambition and it pushed them into a costly,
long, battle to obtain and maintain power. Those leaders are Macbeth, Idi Amin, and, Napoleon
Bonaparte. Macbeth is the main character in Shakespeare s Macbeth. Macbeth was born into low
ranking nobility and rose to fame as a general. He did so well in the military that he became the Thane

Glaciers Are Formed By Ice Erosion
Glaciers are essentially frozen rivers. They are common in the Northern Hemisphere as well as at high
altitude.
Glaciers don t erode quickly, but over a long period of time they can cause drastic changes.
Did you know that Glacial lakes are formed by ice erosion?
The glacier carves out a ditch in the earth and the glacial water melts and is left behind, and when the
glacier is moving, it collects rocks with it.
A Glacier s weight, combined with its gradual movement means that the glaciers can change the land
and make unique land forms. The three processes by which glaciation effects and changes landscape is
erosion, transportation and deposition. Did you know that when water freezes,it gets bigger and
expands, then it will break the rock. This type of erosion is called the freeze thaw. ... Show more

There are two important processes of glacial erosion. The first process is called plucking, Plucking
occurs when cracked and broken rocks are frozen and stuck into glaciers. As a glacier moves over the
landscape, water melts under the glacier and gets into cracks within the underlying bedrock. The water
freezes and melts, weakening the bonds holding pieces of bedrock in place. These pieces of rock can
now be plucked from their rocky base and carried along with the moving glacier.
Glaciers have carved out a number of important geographic

Use Of Satire In The White Tiger, By Aravind Adiga
The White Tiger is a novel by Aravind Adiga that takes place in the new corrupt world of modern
India. The main character as well as the narrator is Balram Halwai, poor man from the village of
Laxmangargh. Balram tells his story through epistles to the chinese premier to confess his rags to

most powerful landlords around, he experiences throughout his job first hand the corruption of the
caste system and serving a master. Adiga shows this through bitter black comedy with a proliferate use
of satire. In the plot Balrams low ranking in the caste system makes him susceptible to being pushed
down by the rich for example when he was framed for a murder he didnt commit because the rich are

Teaching As A Brilliant Lesson Essay
In the past I thought that teaching a brilliant lesson would help students to learn, but I have gradually
realised that didactic teaching has little or no impact on the majority of our students. It is a sad truism
that a significant number of our students are uninterested and resistant to learning, possibly due to
their own previous experiences, peer pressure and the nature of influences outside of the classroom.
My concern as a teacher of these students has been to identify strategies that can be used to facilitate
their learning, improve their self confidence and persuade them that learning is something worthwhile
for them.
One of the implicit aims of our school is to increase the aspirations of our students; to help them
obtain the qualifications they need to achieve their life goals and so help them and their families
improve their life chances (see appendix 1). So given that our aim is to increase the aspirations of our
students; to help them obtain the qualifications they need to achieve their life goals ; the question we
must ask is how can we do this ?
I am increasing drawn to the ideas of Vygotsky (Fisher, 2005: 210; Minton, 2012: 15 17) who in the
1960s, along with others, challenged the notion of inborn intelligence prevalent up to the 1950s,
leading to the still evolving idea that we all can grow in intelligence by improving our cognitive and
meta cognitive skills, learning how to learn (Fisher, 2005: 210). As a result of scientists describing
how our

One way to assess pain behaviours is to observe them in a clinical setting (although pain is also
assessed in a natural setting as the patient goes about his or her everyday activities). Keefe and
Williams (1992) have identified five elements that need to be considered when preparing to assess any
form of behaviour through this type of observation.
A rationale for observation: it is important for clinicians to know why they are observing pain
behaviours. One reason is to identify problem behaviours that the patient may be reluctant to report,
such as pain when swallowing, so that treatment can be given. Another is to monitor the progress of a
course of treatment.
A method for sampling pain behaviour techniques for sampling and recording behaviour include
continuous observation, measuring duration (how long the patient takes to complete a task), frequency
counts (the number of times a target behaviour occurs) and time sampling (for example, observing the
patient for five minutes every hour).
Definitions of the behaviour: observers need to be completely clear as to what behaviours they are
looking for.
Observer training: in most clinical situations, there will be different observers at different times and it
is important that they are consistent.
Reliability and validity: the most useful

Analysis Of A Rose For Emily By Faulkner
In A Rose for Emily, Faulkner aims to commemorate Emily Grierson by illustrating the past events
throughout her life. Through Faulkner s perspective, Emily begins her life as a normal girl who had
high hopes and definite goals to find love; however, Emily experiences several hardships during her
youth that severely alters the person she hopes to become and signifies herself as an object of pity.
Faulkner subtly reveals her pity and regret towards Emily through the portrayal of the toxic
relationship she has with Homer. It is evident in the story that Emily is whole heartedly incapable of
letting Homer leave her. When Homer meets Emily, he seemingly fills a void that she has been
enduring since her father died. In response to being sheltered ... Show more content on

In the same way that Emily s father regulated her own life, she expresses this same control over
Homer in hopes of maintaining her newfound happiness. The narrator affirms one aspect of control
that Emily expresses: ...within three days Homer Barron was back in town. A neighbor saw the Negro
man admit him at the kitchen door at dusk one evening. And that was the last we saw of Homer
Barron (Faulkner 82). In this scenario, Emily illustrates her inability to let Homer leave her by forcing
him at her house. Irrational control cannot be present in order for a healthy, productive relationship.
Even worse, readers discover at the end of the story that Emily is satisfied when she finally achieves
full control over Homer. The narrator exclaims, The man himself lay in the bed. For a long while we
just stood there, looking down at the profound and fleshless grin (Faulkner 83). Emily, who is never
satisfied with her control over Homer, did the one thing she thought was best in order to make him a
part of her life forever. Faulkner considers Emily a subject of pity because she feels she had to go to
extremities murdering her true love to achieve

without autism. When comparing a mother s role to the fathers, mothers are reported to have higher

Heat Capacity Lab Report
This experiment was dealing with the heating of water with different types and sizes of metals. In it
you had to deal with heat capacity. Heat capacity is the amount of heat (normally expressed in
calories, kilocalories, or joules) to raise a substances temperature by one (1) degree (normally
expressed in Celsius or Kelvin). With the answer expressed in units of thermal energy per degree
temperature. With substances having certain specific dimensions you can use to types of heat capacity,
Molar Heat Capacity and Specific Heat Capacity.
Molar Heat Capacity is the amount of heat needed to raise the heat, of one (1) mole of a substance, by
one degree Celsius. This is expressed in joules per moles per degrees Celsius (or Kelvin). For example

Because the amount of heat lost by one substances should be equal to the amount of heat gained by
another substance. This would be very nice when conducting experiments involving temperature.
However, the calorimeter absorbs some of the heat that comes from the reaction. Because of this,
when using a coffee cup calorimeter like in this experiment it must be taken into account that the data
may not be one hundred percent accurate.
The purpose of this experiment was to find the specific heat of zinc (Zn) metal. This was done
performing the experiment. Using a coffee cup calorimeter filled with water you took the temperature
of the water both before and after it was placed into the calorimeter. After taking the metal out it was
massed. And finally calculations were done to find the specific heat of zinc (Zn) metal.
This may seem like an easy experiment on the outside but their are some terms that may not be know.
First is a joule, a joule is a used by International Standard of Units (SI). It deals with many different
types of energy. Joules also play a role in calories. A calorie (in this case a gram calorie)is the amount
of heat needed to raise one (1) gram of water one (1) degree. One (1) calorie (c) is equal to 4.1858
joules and one joule is equal to 0.23890

Durkheim Sacred
Since the beginning of Humanity, Man has been trying to make sense of the world around itself, trying
to fill in the pieces to questions it does not know the answer to. The human journey can be seen as a
quest a search for knowledge, comfort and ultimately for understanding. Perhaps the greatest of
humanities question have involved faith and the notion of a divine god/being. Beliefs about god have
traveled a long road to today s understanding of the notion of God, the divine and sacred. God as a
work in progress began first with the many gods of the polytheistic faith systems, with each god
having limited domain of power and responsibility. For early human beings, such gods felt familiar
and relatable. They didn t see a big gulf between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Durkheim s theory of Religion, both these concepts are the central tenant. The Sacred , according to
Durkheim is an ideal, something that transcends everyday existence and is both awe inspiring as well
as fear inducing, and something potentially dangerous as well as extra ordinary. Sacred in his view
refers to things that have been set apart by man as requiring special religious treatment and veneration.
One key point to note is that Sacred can be anything, from the earth to the moon, a bird, an animal, a
rock, a tree to a god. The sacredness comes from a community marking them as such and once they
have been established as a sacred, they are embodied in religious practices, sentiments and beliefs.
The profane, on the other hand is anything that is simply ordinary, it embraces practices, persons and
ideas that are in the end seen with everyday mundane attitudes of familiarity, utility and commonness.
Both the sacred and profane are highly interrelated due to the extreme levels of emotions they invoke
in the people that believe in them and according the Durkheim, the concept of Sacred and the profane
varies amongst society to society (Durkheim,

The scavenger hunt is a week long, worldwide event. All participants are part of a 15 person team. A
person can create their own team, or they can sign up online, and the team will be created for them.
The cool thing is one could be on the same team as someone all the way over in Europe! Once the
hunt starts, Misha airs a video online with a short speech, and along with the video, releases a list of
the things participants must find . But not everything is necessarily something to be found. Some of
the things a team must create. Each thing a team may find is worth points. But as proof a team actually
found things, they must document them in the form of a picture or video, and post them online. At the
end of the week, the team with the most points gets to travel somewhere, personally, with Misha, and
spend the weekend with him. Above all, the point of G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S. is to inspire and influence
people to get creative! Some things from the 2012 list that teams had to find, or create, were as

  • 2. Sexually Transmitted Diseases Are Caused By A Wide Range... Darleene Rodriguez Bio 416 08 May 2017 Immunotherapeutic Strategies Sexually transmitted diseases are caused by a wide range of viruses. The most common viruses are: HIV 1, HSV 1/2, and HPV. Often the contraction of these viruses goes undiagnosed until the patient has acquired severe symptoms, by this time they have also transferred the disease to another individual. For this reason, the importance of developing and understanding immunotherapeutic strategies has become essential for immunologists (5). There are many factors that contribute to viral infection, therefore, targeting these virus specific factors is a key to preventing viral spread to neighboring cells. Factors like viral attachment, entry, un coating, synthesis, assembly, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cytokine therapy has been a crucial advance in the treatment of HIV because this disease is highly affiliated with cytokine production. Cytokines are inserted in tumor cells as immune stimulatory genes (5). Following insertion, the patient is injected with a cytokine based vaccine which is used as a therapeutic measure for cancer prevention in patients that have HPV. Activation of cytokines (IL 2, IL 12, GM CSF) have been theorized to inhibit the growth on tumors. HIV is linked to a decline of the host s immune system response and decrease of CD4 T cells, therefore cytokine therapy enables the production of these cells by treating patients with IL 2 (5). HPV has been associated with cancer and there is no cure for HPV, however, there are preventative and therapeutic medications (2,6). In the case of HPV vaccination, natural killer cells are activated which induce an immune response. Immune modulators have suppressive and stimulatory effects on macrophages. Stimulation allows for the secretion of cytokines which allows the immune system to produce antibodies due to the high antigen presentation in dendritic cells. Although these viruses often remain undetected, HSV typically causes a more visible and painful reaction in the infected tissues. Shedding of the HSV virus is prominent when the symptoms occur (1). HSV 2 in responsible for genital herpes and may be one of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Is The Striders Poem Whereas for Ramanujan the animal is not mere a symbol caged in human world rather it is a messenger of spirituality and thus of ultimate freedom. In his most celebrated and discussed poem The Striders Ramanujan forcefully puts forward the inevitability and indispensability of animals and insects in our life when he deploys a water bug as the metaphor to represent his poetic ideas: Thin stemmed, bubble eyed water bugs See them perch on the dry capillary legs Weightless on the ripple skin of a stream (The Striders, p. 03. At Poli Ready, 69) Here, the water bug is striding the flowing stream with its thin legs in the running water maintaining the balance. Spiritual connotations of this instance of the bug maintaining the balance on running water tell of its harmony with nature and adaptability to life better than that of humans. Such poems, wherein Ramanujan celebrates his past mingled with animal world, speak of poet s self reflexivity and craving for some lost values. Nevertheless, the new age typical post colonial writers like Adiga do not show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Coping Strategies, Coping Inventory, Self Regulation and Resilience in Regards to Anxiety or Stress on an Athletic Trainer What is stress? Hans Selye was the one who coined the word stress . Selye defined stress as a non specific response of the body to any form of demand for change. Just as the way Selye defined it, stress is the way the body responds to any type of demand. Stress can be caused by both bad and good experiences. When a person feels stressed by something occurring around him, his body reacts by realizing certain chemicals into the blood. Such chemicals give the person more strength an energy that can be a good thing if physical danger is what causes his stress. Though, it can also be a bad thing is his stress is response to an emotional thing as there would be no outlet for such extra strength and energy. Stress Responses Stress is majorly is a physical response. When the individual is under stress, his body perceives that it under pressure (attack) and consequently switches to flight or fight mode, producing various chemical and hormones such as norepinephrine, cortisol, and adrenaline to prepare body to become active for physical action. This triggers various reactions such blood moves to muscles to close down unnecessary functions of the body like digestion, muscles tighten, break quickens, senses become more focused, blood pressure increases, and heart beats faster. • 5. The Story Of The 12 Spies The story of the 12 spies seems to be a story of doubtfulness. Everyone has a sense of doubt because we are human beings. Life is full of obstacles that you must get over. All obstacles are able to be conquered, however our most mighty warrior is God. He must learn to not doubt his ability to bring us through the many storms he places before us. He uses these storms to test our faithfulness in Him. In this part of the book of Numbers, the spies are sent to look into the land that had been promised to His people. The part that stood out was the two different stories that came back and how the ten spies had no faith in the ability of God s promise. Time after time, God proved to the people of Israel that nothing could defeat them if they just believed in His word and be faithful to His will. The Lord promised Abraham that his people would be a mighty nation, Abraham believed and was one of God s most faithful servants. God used Moses to bring the people out from under the enslavement of Pharaoh. He brought them through the Red Sea, however the people still doubted that God was powerful enough to bring them to their own inheritance that waited for them. The people of Israel, just like people of today, were impatient. Everyone wants instant gratification. • 7. The Battle Of The Algiers Essay Terrifying and placid and terrifying because of its placidity, the plot unfolds gracefully: a beautiful twenty something Islamic woman, dressed in a Western ensemble, arrives at a chic and exclusively French café in Algiers. She walks into the café, orders a classic Coca Cola, and discreetly places her explosive toting handbag on the ground. A few sips of the cola and the disguised Algerian woman heads out, with surveying eyes gazing about the happy French faces which will be no longer in just moments. The bomb explodes, killing several French lives, and striking a small victory in the overall battle of the FLN against France in reclaiming their own land. This scene peeks into the later victory of the anti hero in Gillo Pontecorvo s The Battle of the Algiers. The film paints a largely accurate picture of popular support for the FLN. While Algeria can be seen as being depicted as a terrorist nation, employing low and grimy tactics against France, the viewer can t help but sympathize, and even root for the underdog. The film highlights the misery within the poor peasantry of the Algerian lifestyle in their home country. We are introduced to Ali La Pointe in the opening scene, cramped in a literal hole in a wall, hiding from execution from the French government. The conditions of the home are grotesque and while you don t know much about what is to come, you know you wish you could better the situation of La Pointe and the others (including children) in this domestic prison. ... Roundup Ready Soybeans Monsanto s Roundup Ready Soybean (RRS) is a genetically engineered variety of soybeans, which contains gene sequences from a cauliflower mosaic virus (CMV), a petunia, and a bacterium (Agrobacterium sp.) (Greenpeace, 1997). The two bacterial genes, in short, provide for resistance against Roundup, resulting in a crop of soybeans that can be sprayed with Roundup to protect it from weeds, while not injuring it. In 1996, U.S. farmers harvested about 1.2 million acres of Roundup Ready Soybeans, and although this crop represented only about 2 percent of U.S. soybeans, it will be mixed with conventional soybeans unlabeled to become part of as much as 60 percent of all processed foods that contain some soy based ingredient (Bruno, 1997). It is generally the day of symmetry, neither bitter winter nor the relentless summer. In old days, Ostara was a season of sowing and growing. Decorated eggs, baskets of blossoms and such are commonly utilized to adorn the house. As a period of symmetry, it is an excellent time to perform self banishings and also perform workings to obtain elements we have lost, or to obtain qualities we long to have. This song was performed by Billie Holiday in 1939 at the Cafe Society in New York. The music video was actually a recorded performance from 1959. The song was written and performed because the purpose of was to raise awareness and fight against African American lynching because during that time, African Americans were being discriminated and abused. Billie Holiday in the music video/song Strange Fruit displays logos through context and imagery, pathos through her sorrowful tone and facial expressions, and lastly, ethos because she won many awards during her career in singing, and Strange Fruit is one of them. The lyrics of the song have contains a handful of imagery describing African Americans being lynched. For example, Blood on the leaves and blood on the root , is a very descriptive example and puts an image in your mind of seeing a tree with African Americans hanging with blood dripping from their bodies (genius.com). This line makes it seem like the blood that is dripping from the people hanging is feeding the tree s root, and this could symbolize growth because America was a growing country back then and still is today. Back then, African Americans were physically and mentally abused, and the point of the song was to put an end to that and it did eventually. Today, African Americans are still being discriminated for job opportunities because of stereotypes people made that make African Americans look bad. Throughout the course of time, we did make changes, which relates to the line, Blood on the leaves and blood on the root . Another line the depicts a very cruel image is, Here is fruit for crows to pluck (genius.com) This line has a very dark meaning and image because crows always symbolize evil and darkness. The fact that this line puts a picture of bodies being devoured by crows in your mind, proves that Holiday uses very strong imagery in the context of Strange Fruit. From these two lines from the song, we learned that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Bell Hooks Art On My Mind Summary When most people think about art, the first thing to come to mind would usually be paintings that are hung up in a museum. Unless you really understand the value of art you may not believe me when I say the value of art is essential to the well being of free individuals. This idea can be supported by Bell Hooks story named Art On My Mind . Her story starts off explaining her childhood and her quest to understand art. Ms. Hooks was able to paint beautiful pictures at a youthful age as noted by her art teacher Mr. Harold. Her family did not think art was a genuine approach to make your living and never considered Bell s talent important. Even though Hooks parents never supported her talent for art her art teacher continued to encourage her. During that time school just became desegregated, so even though Mr. Harold ( who is white) seemed as if he was ok with being around colored people, Hooks did not feel as if she can fully believe everything he has to say since she was taught that white people were not able to understand black lives. Besides Mr. Harold, Hooks had some one else to talk about art with which was her sister G.. The conversation started off when she asked what she thinks about art, and more importantly what she thinks most black folks are thinking about art. And she responds with art is just too far away from our lives, that art is something in order to enjoy and know it, it takes work. This shows that black people do not believe that working to enjoy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her use of vivid descriptions of nature conjure images of soft petals juxtaposed against those thorny cacti and the notion of dreams interrupted by violent passion. Marion s death is very symbolic and dualistic in a multitude of ways. This is very dualistic of the ending of the frontier, which was right around the time Psycho was produced. the movement of the film is steadily downward and inward, away from the feeling of daylight, abundance, and expanse to a nightmarish claustrophobia that exteriorizes the unconscious mind. (Gottlieb, Brookhouse 362) [Christopher Sharrett 362] The image of the West being a gigantic open expanse was coming to an end and Hitchcock showed that the frontier was finished and there was no chance of it coming back. Gothic literature was big in Stoker s life according to Nicole Lobdell s article, Stoker the Victorian Gothic Stage , Stoker loved Gothic plays, sensation melodramas, and vampire melodramas. Lobdell states He interprets the causes and effects of melodramatic performances and translates those elements into his fiction (Lobdell 273). In Jennifer Swartz Levine s article Staking Salvation: The Reclamation of the Monstrous Female in Dracula she comments about The concept of the Angel in the House the pure, virtuous, non sexualized female is one of the most monolithic and immobile depictions of Victorian womanhood (Swartz Levine 2). At the time the belief of following the Victorian society s set limits would be beneficial while wrongdoers would be punished. Victorians at the time were to believe in women being pure and non sexual, like Stoker s character Mina Harker. When characters like Lucy and the other three female vampires act apart from Mina, morals come into question. However, Stoker feeds into the fear of contamination and punishments because he sets female sexuality apart from femininity in order to show female sexuality as wrong or monstrous. He portrays the standard Englishwomen as non sexual and anything different deviant or unnatural. In the beginning of the novel when the vampire is trying to seduce Johnathan he says he seemed to know her face, and to know in connections with some dreamy fear, but could not recollect at the moment how or where (Stoker 38). He spoke on July 5, 1852, in Rochester, New York. His speech was called The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro . The purpose of his speech was to give his opinions on the well known holiday, the fourth of July. Reading the speech made me feel dumbfounded, amused and frustrated The Fourth of July is America s independence day from Britain. However, slaves remained in the same position until after the civil war. This is the reason why Douglass says and believes This Fourth July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn. To drag a man in fetters into the grand illuminated temple of liberty, and call upon him to join you in joyous anthems, were inhuman mockery and sacrilegious irony. I m left both speechless and amused on how true this statement is. Americans expected everyone to celebrate their day with them. While remaining hypocrites having once slaves and now segregation within their free and fair nation. No one should expect respect or happiness from people Americana has hurt. Teaching As A Brilliant Lesson Essay In the past I thought that teaching a brilliant lesson would help students to learn, but I have gradually realised that didactic teaching has little or no impact on the majority of our students. It is a sad truism that a significant number of our students are uninterested and resistant to learning, possibly due to their own previous experiences, peer pressure and the nature of influences outside of the classroom. My concern as a teacher of these students has been to identify strategies that can be used to facilitate their learning, improve their self confidence and persuade them that learning is something worthwhile for them. One of the implicit aims of our school is to increase the aspirations of our students; to help them obtain the qualifications they need to achieve their life goals and so help them and their families improve their life chances (see appendix 1). So given that our aim is to increase the aspirations of our students; to help them obtain the qualifications they need to achieve their life goals ; the question we must ask is how can we do this ? A rationale for observation: it is important for clinicians to know why they are observing pain behaviours. One reason is to identify problem behaviours that the patient may be reluctant to report, such as pain when swallowing, so that treatment can be given.
