Court System Should Use Mediation As An Alternative...
Why the court system should use Mediation as an Alternative Dispute Resolution
Civil lawsuits can happen at any moment out of disputes between business partners, family
members, neighbors and government individuals and it must be followed by certain steps. for
example, pleadings, discovery, trial, and possible appeals. This is how alternate dispute resolutions
were developed. Alternate Dispute Resolutions were developed in response to the expense and
difficulty of bringing a lawsuit. Some examples of resolutions are; mediation, arbitration,
negotiation, mini trial, fact finding and using a judicial referee (pg 59). Even though arbitration
is the most common form of resolution, I believe mediation is the best way to reach a settlement
for both parties while saving them time and money. This is of course depending on the case.
Three reasons why I believe mediation is a good form of resolution are First, because the plaintiff
has more freedom to take certain actions before taking their case to trial. Second, because it would
end up being less costly. Lastly, because the plaintiff can gather all... Show more content on

I believe the plaintiff has more freedom to take certain actions before taking their case to trial,
as opposed to arbitration, where a third party decides the dispute and the arbitration agreement
often describes a specific procedure that must be followed for a case to proceed through an
arbitration (pg 59 60) . For example, a lot of cases are family related problems where there are
emotions involved. It can simply be that both parties are misunderstanding each other or don t
know how to deal with a certain situation. A mediator helps both parties see the other s side of the
problem making it easier in a more relaxed environment, to come up with a settlement, then to take

Argument On Dinosaur
Argument 1: Why I believe there is dinosaurs in my backyard because back when there was
dinosaurs there was a shallow sea around hallett cove south Australia which it would be where we
are right now.
Why is this an important point? This is an important point because you need a large amount of
water to make sedimentary rocks.
What factual evidence do you have to support your point (reason)? Because i have and people have
found dinosaur bones around south australia befor.
Argument 2: Why I believe this point (reason); some elaboration and evidence.
What is the point (reason)? I believe this because no one has dug under our house because thats
our house and we can t dig like 300m under our house to find dinosaur bones.
Why is this an important point? Well no one has tried to find dinosaur bones around our place befor.

you can find them in the cliff around the beach.
Why is this an important point? That tells us that there can be fossils around our place or even

What factual evidence do you have to support your point (reason)? My evidence is that i have

Compare And Contrast Cyrano De Bergerac
A great nose may be an index of a great soul (Rostand 30). This quote by Cyrano is one of many
interesting quotes that the play Cyrano de Bergerac contains. The play is a dramatic comedy
written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand about a cadet named Cyrano who has fallen in love with the
beautiful women Roxane. On the contrary, Roxanne, which is a movie based off of the play
Cyrano de Bergerac, takes place in the 1980 s and takes the same plot. The two stories have many
comparisons and contrast in many ways. One example of this is between the two characters
Cyrano and C.D. Both Cyrano and C.D are known for their incredible ability at doing their jobs.
Cyrano is known for being one of the best cadets to ever live and C.D is an excellent Fire Chief.
Although they are both widely known for their success, their panache and their massively large
noses steal the show. In fact, just by saying the word nose , Cyrano or C.D would immediately pop

random man decide to insult Cyrano and C.D s large nose and both immediately regret it.

their own hilarious jokes off of the top of their head. The difference in the scenes is that Cyrano
makes it clear to all that his swordplay is spectacular when he battles Valvert. Cyrano is
challenged to duel Valvert and during their duel Cyrano starts to realize that Valvert is having
trouble with Cyrano. He then decides to challenge himself by making an incredibly well written
poem to put him in his place while dueling him and eventually killing him. C.D does not kill
anyone, but when the random man attacks C.D, he is countered and knocked out by C.D in one
strike. This scene is one of most important scenes that share differences and

How far was the russo Japanese war responsible for the outbreak in Russia 1905?
The Russo Japanese war took place in 1904 to 1905 and began because of both Russia and
Japans desire to expand their borders into places such as Korea. During this war, Russia was
humiliated and had many defeats from a country which were considered to be inferior. The defeat
of this war humiliated the people of Russia and therefore lost confidence in Nicholas II. Russia s
defeat in the war also caused problems in the Military, economic and political problems. This then
means that the Russo Japanese war was partly responsible for the 1905 revolution.

If the Russian people were to turn away, they would have to look somewhere else. Many looked
towards political groups who were prepared to take action. The political implications of the Russo
Japanese war was a major cause of the 1905 Revolution as support left the Tsar and went to
political groups which many believed could take his place.
However, many people believe that the Russo Japanese was not the only cause for the outbreak
of the 1905 revolution. During this period, there were many growing political groups which
many believed would be better than the Tsar because of their more radical thinking. The Russians
mainly supported the Populists the Social Revolutionaries, the Social Democrats and the Liberals.
Throughout the years the groups were slowly providing more opposition to the Tsar and each
other. The most radical, and in some ways successful, group was the Social Revolutionaries (SR).
The SR was heavily against the Tsar and his regimes. They opposed by assassinating many
members of the government including the Minister of the Interior, Plehve in 1904 and Sergei. The
SR became hugely popular due to their radicalism and the fact they are getting closer to their goal
than many other political groups which lead to the public supporting them as opposed to the Tsar
causing the 1905 revolution.
Another big reason why the 1905 revolution was cause was Russia s lack of Political reform

Introduction
Dairy Milk is a brand of milk chocolate currently manufactured by Cadbury. It was introduced in
the United Kingdom in 1905 and now consists of a number of different products. Every product
in the Dairy Milk line is made exclusively with milk chocolate. Cadbury s Daily Milk has a range
of different flavours, all equally famous around the world. This case study relates to the topic of
advertising which we studied in class.
Cadbury is not only famous for the quality of their product, but also for their advertising. Since

Since 2007 Cadbury have adopted a new advertising approach which many view as critical to
both the Cadbury Dairy Milk brand and the company. Cadbury decided not to focus on the
chocolate in their advertisements, but instead to focus on entertaining the public. This led to
the creation of the three memorable advertisements outlined above, Gorilla , Airport Trucks and
Eyebrows . All these advertisements incorporated the Cadbury trademark colour purple into the
ads and displayed the Cadbury Dairy Milk logo and slogan A Glass and a Half Full of Joy . All
the ads embraced the popularity of viral advertising and used this very much to their advantage
and were a huge hit on YouTube and on social networking sites. They became a firm favourite
among the online community. They told the public nothing about Dairy Milk. Rather than using
the chocolate as the main focal point, Cadbury decided to use emotional appeals to attract the
public s attention. Many in the industry viewed this as a huge risk, but it is one that seems to
have worked for Cadbury. These three ads are very similar as they don t focus on the Cadbury
bar they focus on entertaining the viewer by their use of a gorilla, airport trucks and the two
children moving their eyebrows. It s not until the end of the ad that the Dairy Milk bar appears in
each ad. They are all very catchy ads by

black families Essay example
Family is a basic unit in every society. However, the makeup of a family is more complex to
define. There are so many types of families that it is impossible to have one distinct definition in
trying to explain how a true family is defined. For example, there are married couples with or
without children, single parent families, and even families headed by gay menor lesbians. These
may not have been considered families not too long ago, but now must be recognized because we
live in such a diverse society. What I want to focus on is the African American family, in terms of
what they had to go through before, during, and after slavery. As well as, where they are now and
where it s going in the future.

Extended Family
As I stated before the extended family has played an important role in African American families
throughout history. Extended family is made up of the family that is outside of your immediate
nuclear family, your uncles, aunts, grandparents and/or cousins. I don t come from a nuclear family,
instead I m from a single parent family, so my mom usually depended on some members of our
extended family to help get by . Even now, I m living with my grandparents, so my extended
family has always played an important role, at least to this point, in my life. The extended
family is sometimes used as an economic unit. African American families are especially known
for this type of households. It allows the family to use resources and exchange goods and
services, and other things that probably wouldn t possible if they were on their own (Dickerson,
1995). This type of living arrangement goes back to West African cultures. For example, in the
Ashanti tribe young women remained in their family compound because the mothers weren t
believed to be able to manage on their on. So they stayed and received help from the older women
in the tribe and other young mothers to help care for the children (Dickerson, 1995). An extended
family gives children someone other than their mother or father to relate to (Staples, 1994). It can
be viewed as a special friendship that isn t shared with either of the parents.
As effective and helping as the extended family has been, its

What Is The Fear Of Fear Essay
Since a young age, I always had a fear of heights and so when I was asked to take part in jumping
off a bridge (bungee jumping) in South Africa, my natural reaction was to say no, and that is
exactly what I did. But while others were getting ready for the jump I asked myself one question;
why am I scared of heights. I knew I had to face it one day. It was in a fight of flight situation and
so, on the spur of the moment I decided fight. It was a decision I have never regretted even though
minutes before the jumpI was very scared. As I leaped of the bridge I felt like I was on the top of the
world. Adrenalin flowed in my body like blood. I felt alive. To this day I cannot forget the incident.

Fast Car by Tracy Chapman
Fast Car, originally composed and performed by Tracy Chapman in 1988, is a contemporary
song that has captured the hearts of audiences of all ages around the world for decades. In this
piece, the persona takes the listener on not only a physical, but also on an emotional and
imaginative journey, as she tells us her story of desperate hope to escape the place she lives in
order to make a better life for herself elsewhere, and the obstacles she must overcome to do so.
Through this text, Chapman effectively communicates that searching for something better is often
the reason we embark on a journey, as well as exploring the fact that taking a physical journey

Nisei Daughter by Monica Sone Essay
Nisei Daughter, by Monica Sone
Even with all the mental anguish and struggle, an elemental instinct bound us to this soil. Here
we were born; here we wanted to live. We had tasted of its freedom and learned of its brave hopes
for democracy. It was too late, much too late for us to turn back. (Sone 124). This statement is key
to understanding much of the novel, Nisei Daughter, written by Monica Sone. From one
perspective, this novel is an autobiographical account of a Japanese American girl and the ways in
which she constructed her own self identity. On the other hand, the novel depicts the distinct
differences and tension that formed between the Issei and Nisei generations. Moreover, it can be
seen as an attempt to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout her novel, Monica describes events and experiences, which reveal her character and
personality. However, if perceived solely as an autobiography, the major theme of this novel is
overlooked.
I think Monica Sone focuses on, and clearly shows, the tension that arose in the Japanese American
community because they felt torn between two distinct cultures and amongst themselves. There
was also much confusion in this pre World War II and during WWII era concerning the place of
Japanese Americans in the United States. The Issei, or first generation of immigrants from Japan,
were generally highly organized in their communities. They tended to stay in close connection with
traditional Japanese culture. The Issei spoke their native language, practiced traditional Japanese
customs, and formed church groups, and other social communities amongst themselves. Similarly,
the Nisei, or second generation Japanese American, were also highly organized and formed strong
ties amongst themselves separate from the Issei. The Nisei attended Japanese schools, which
enhanced their use of the Japanese language, but more importantly, created a social network of
peers. They participated in church programs, and sports teams together. One main difference
between the Issei and Nisei was that the Nisei were considered Americans. They were born here and
they held complete citizenship. This was not true for the Issei. Another factor that separated the

Sixth Mass Extinction Paper
The sixth mass extinction is on the way and could be as massive as the extinction that wiped out
the dinosaurs (Kolbert, 2014). Before learning more about the sixth mass extinction, you ll have
to first understand what biodiversity is and what will happen when you tamper with it.
According to Anup Shah, author of Why is Biodiversity Important? Who Cares, biodiversity
means the variety of life on Earth or in an ecosystem. Every species plays an important role in
the ecosystem or in the world, no matter how big or small. A way to incorporate this into easier
terms is the food chain or food web. Without a certain species in the cycle, you ll be losing
another species and so forth (Shah, 2014). Loss of biodiversity was declared at the first Earth...

Altering the biodiversity could cause the loss of an environment such as the Malayan field rat
incident in the Chiew Larn islands. Laurance, William wrote the article, Islands of Extinction, which
speaks of the Chiew Larn and how the reservoir was flooded. Larger animals perished due to the
fact of how small Chiew Larn islands were during the flood. Chiew Larn island measures from 1
hectare, 2.5 acres, to 60 hectares, 148 acres. Some large animals such as tigers, deer, and
elephants might have disappeared into the forest surrounds the reservoir. Because of this flood, it
was easier for the Malayan field rat to come and invade the Chiew Larn islands. One of William
colleague, Tony Lynam, traveled and did an experiment on the Chiew Larn islands after the flood.
Tony s experiment was to use baited live traps to capture small mammals left on the island and ear
tags them. The result that Lynam had discovered was astounding because the native mammal
species had vanished within 10 hectares of the area (Laurance, 2014). The tragic change of the
environment had lost the once healthy and plentiful biodiversity in the area. This is the start of an
invader known as the Malayan field rat. A Malayan field rat, an adaptable species, can be compared
to the well and common known black rat. The Malayan field rat lives near human settlements and
agriculture. Luke Gibson, a Ph.D. student at the

Potential For Victoria s Dairy Industry
Potential for Victoria s Dairy Industry to Move towards a Partial Mixed Ration Feeding System
Jasmine Hasluck
Feed is a major cost in the production of milk so it is important for Victorian dairy farmers to
consider which feeding strategy is going to be the most efficient in generating high profit and
productivity. We can broadly group dairy feeding strategies into 5 systems (Little, S 2010).
System 1 is pasture based with other forages and up to 1 tonne of grain or concentrates fed in bail.
System 2 is pasture based with other forages and more than 1 tonne of grain or concentrate fed in
bail. System 3 is a partial mixed ration (PMR) fed on a feed pad, grazed pasture and grain or
concentrate may be fed in bail. System 4 is a hybrid system, ... Show more content on

It requires minimal capital and infrastructure by allowing cattle to graze pasture. However this
system has become less efficient as Victorian dairy farms have become more intense and
climatic conditions and milk prices are volatile. Since the price of milk became deregulated in
2000 there was a push for Australian dairy farms to become more productive to remain
competitive with international dairy industries (Edwards, G 2003). This led to increases in
stocking density and ultimately put pressure on pasture supply. Rainfall is a limiting factor on
pasture growth and year to year variability in rainfall has had a huge negative effect on Victorian
dairy farmers. In 2009/10 Victoria was faced with severe droughts, which showed a fall in milk
production of over 340 million litres (Dairy Australia, 2015). During an extended period of low
rainfall the quantity and quality of pasture is limited, which means pasture based farms are forced
to buy in supplementary feed and/or irrigation water to satisfy the feed requirements of dairy cattle.
Climatic variability poses a high risk in this system, which has led to farmers to start considering
other feeding options such as a partial mixed ration which might alleviate this risk. Figure 1. Dairy
Feeding Systems (Little, S 2010)
Partial mixed ration systems combine the cost effectiveness of pasture based feeding with a
formulated diet which gives the potential to improve productivity and decrease the risk associated

The Cultural Heritage Within The Uk
Introduction
Museums have become crucial in society due to the sustainability of Cultural Heritage within the
UK. For relevance to future generations, museums and galleries must show their social purpose by
becoming increasingly aware of visitors wants need for a valuable experience. Through the
development of their customer service roles will help examine the ways in which museums can
expand their communication practices and achieve best practice (McLeod, 2012). Per ONS (Office
of National Statistics) states that since 2008, there has been 10 million visitors increase in the UK
museum market which suggest there has been a positive change in either the consumers visiting or
the museum ethos. This essay investigates the power of ethics within the museums setting
regarding human remains, the challenges that have arose as well as changes in the Museum sector,
specifically the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow, that have become apparent over the past decade.

The Discovery Of Oil And Its Impact On The Environment
The discovery of oil has led to an abundance of new opportunities that have helped people create
new inventions with the biggest being the automobile. Major corporations have arisen from The
impact of oil derived, in large part, from its attractiveness as an energy dense, easily deliverable
source of fuel for transportation. Oil is sometimes coined the term black gold because of its value.
Corporations like Chevron have made billions of dollars in the oil industry. With the rise of oil, the
destruction of the environmenthas also become a serious issue in some parts of the world. Oil
spills that have taken place in the gulf and in the forests have had a huge impact on both the
people and wildlife that have lived around these affected areas. Black streaks of oil are seen in
the sand in some beaches still to this day and. But these are just some of the major environmental
disasters oil companies like Chevron are responsible for. Chevron has also made an impact on the
environment around its refineries, and it is not a positive impact. The waste that comes out of these
refineries is dumped into the ocean, rivers, and these toxic wastesites severely hurt the environment
in the process. One of the biggest issue the company faces, is with the country of Ecuador where a
lawsuit was filed against Texaco, which was acquired by Chevron in 2001. The corporation was

Reflection on Domestic Violence s Intersection with Various Social Problems
PennyWise is a resale store affiliated with the Fort Bend Women s Center in Sugar Land, TX. This
organization works to advocate and provide resources for women and children who are victims of
domestic abuse. Their mission statement is:
The Fort Bend Women s Center empowers survivors of domestic or sexual violence and their
children to achieve safety, heal and begin a new independent and self sufficient life, while also
striving to prevent violence against women (Fort Bend).
Volunteers for the Fort Bend Women s Center fulfill a number of roles in their retail store,
PennyWise. In my service, I worked to help the staff organize and sort the various donations that
they received that were inundating their warehouse. Working with PennyWise exposed me to an
entirely different perspective than I was previously familiar with as I have always been insulated
away from people in such a situation. I found that the employees, women who were victims of
domestic violence trying to get back on their feet again, faced an array social problems that
severely affected every aspect of their lives. Several of the most notable social problems that I
observed intersecting with domestic violence were poverty/class inequality, gender, and race.
Poverty/class inequality is the social problem that characterizes the disproportionate

The Case Against Perfection By Michael Sandel
In Michael Sandel s essay, The Case Against Perfection, he starts by wondering if genetic
engineering is moral. He used Dolly the cloned sheep as an example of bioengineering that could be
used on humans in the future. He then compares it to designer children, children whose parents
choice their genes for them, and points out that similar arguments that can be made against both of
them.
Sandel talks about why we have a problem with medical and genetic enhancements, using examples.
The first is muscle enhancement. Using the research of H. Lee Sweeney, of the University of
Pennsylvania, on muscle repair and strengthen that was used on mice as an example, Sandel shows
the potential of genetic engineering advancements. The second was about memory enhancement.
Some research was mentioned about inserting memory linked gene into mice embryo makes them
smarter. Sandel focuses more on the market for memory enhancing drugs because the market is a
better indication of what people would do with improved memories. There is already a way to

Public Enterprises (collectively referred to as Ministries, Departments and Agencies), the public
sector refers to a system of government employees, elected or appointed that serve members of
the public through the provision of goods and service. The term is also a generic name for both
the civil service and the parastatals or public enterprises combined. It equally encompasses
undertakings that engage in the provision of goods and services which the private sector may not

Wilson Fourteen Points
Although Woodrow Wilson was stoic about many of his viewpoints, his shaping of the Treaty of
Versailles and the way he compromised on so many of his Fourteen Points truly shows his lack of
strength in international affairs. Wilson, who was President throughout the First World War, stalled
the United States from entering until it was absolutely necessary. During the war, in a meeting with
advisors, he formulated a set of fourteen suggestions, which subsequently dropped into enemy

Wilson called World War II The war to end all wars. It is very likely he would want to see this
through to the end and make sure that world war would never happen again. Because of this, many
of his fourteen points were very peaceful and did not appoint a winner or loser. It also required a
great deal of international cooperation in which many countries were not ready to participate.
Absolute freedom of naval navigation in either peace or war is quite a long stretch for many of
the nations that had just been severely battered and blockaded. International reduction of arms
and the removal of economic barriers had the possibility of reducing the defense, both militarily
and economically to dangerously low levels. His fourteen points also made many suggestions
concerning land and areas that had been involved in conflict stretching back even to the Prussian
occupation of Alsace Lorraine. Such suggestions included an evaluation of colonial claims, of
Russian territory, and the restoration of states like Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro. Of course,
the Alsace Lorraine was to be restored to France, which caused even more of a struggle for
Germany to support itself. All of these were penultimate to Wilson s sincere desire for a league of
many nations working together to promote world peace. Wilson conceded so many of his points in
order to keep the League of Nations. He saw this as the most important product because it was

The For Your Child s Winter Essay
You can t miss the nip in the air, and as the year draws to an end, the mercury is going to dip
even further. This also means it s time to pull out all those colourful woollies that have been
languishing in the cupboard, and maybe buy some new ones to stay in sync with the season s
trends. Gone are the days when the over sized woolens came in monotonous and boring winter
shades. Now, you can splurge on colours and watch your child radiate the brightness. Red is big
for girls and boys, and the metallics that lit up the runways in the fall are also gracing kids winter
lines.
When choosing woolens for your child, practicality is of utmost importance. But don t overlook
the fashion angle. Kids, these days, are extremely conscious about what they wear. Here are a few
winter must haves for your child.
1. Just jackets
Your child s winter wardrobe would be incomplete without a warm and colourful jacket. Depending
on where you are stationed, you can opt for a quilt lined jacket, a football jacket, a classic denim
one or the contemporary ones that look more like coats. Cotton, Light and medium poly fill
jackets are in fashion these days, with sweat jackets ruling the fashion scene. Jackets, not only
provide ample warmth, but when zipped right up, take care of the entire upper torso without you
having to worry much. Little girls can add a few frills and flowers to their jackets without thinking
twice. And if it s not too cold, they can even go for chic shrugs.

The Epic of Gilgamesh
The story about Gilgamesh is one of the earliest pieces of world literature dating back to the
second millennium B.C.E. This story has been evolved gradually over a long span of a
millennium, and has been enjoyed by many nations. The Epic of Gilgamesh teaches life lessons that
apply to the past and present while revolving around the question of what it means to be human, and
to experience the phenomenon of friendship, love, and death.
Notably, the thing about human life is that everyone desires friendship or to be simply not be
alone. In the story of the epic of Gilgamesh talks about how friendship changed his whole life.
Gilgamesh used to be a terrible ruler led by arrogance, and brutality of his people. He was
overconsumed with power, therefore doing whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. It seemed
that Gilgamesh grew bored of life, and had a deep hole in his heart as such something was
missing from his life. One day Gilgamesh told his mother I want a friend for my own counselor,
for my own Counselor do I want a friend (Foster 106). He needed someone to confide in as well
as talk too about his plans and future. Gilgamesh had everything in his life from riches to power,

The journal cites the Center for the Study of Athletics that showed that, 95 percent of basketball
and football players indicated that earning a college degree was important to them. Unfortunately,
one third of these same student athletes earned a GPA of less than 2.0, which severely limits the
chances of earning a college degree (Gatson Gayles). Not only is this one third of students at risk
of not earning a college degree, but the entire group as a whole might not even be successful
post college even if they do graduate with a college degree. The reason for this is because a
majority of African American male student athletes choose majors and degrees that do not have
much value for them personally and can do little to help them be financially secure. Lois Elfman

the academic clustering of minority and white student athletes. In the interview Fountain describes
something that is becoming an increasing issue in collegiate sports, A couple of years ago, I just

Discuss How Robert Louis Stevenson Explores the Topic of...
English Coursework The Gothic fiction novel Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde , written by Robert Louis
Stevenson in 1886, is a novel about a man torn by the desire to separate the good and evil inside
people. The plot beholds a scientist who finds a way to literally separate his good from his evil by
drinking a potion. The plot picks up on the Victorian hypocrisy that crippled people into being
society s idea of good and the shallow nature of the Victorians and how they judged character by
appearance. At this particular era classes still reigned, so this meant that reputation was still more
important than anything, and if being respectable meant suppressing inner desires or altering the
person you were and having to live with that, then... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually due to the inaccuracy of his unscientific balderdash (as spoken by Lanyon)
something goes wrong and his changes from Jekyll to Hyde become more irrepressible, My
blood was changed into something exquisitely thin and icy. Yes I had gone to bed Henry Jekyll,
I had awakened Edward Hyde. He lacks the power or strength to stop these changes. Hyde seems
to perform the metamorphosis without warning or consent. I believe this to be significant to the
fact that Hyde is becoming stronger and less willing to do as dictated, and because he, the inner
demon, has been exercised at such a severe extent he had become a bigger part of Jekyll and so
containing the inner beast becomes harder. Stevenson writes the powers of Hyde seemed to
grow with the sickliness of Jekyll. I do not think he wrote this meaning a literal sickness but was
instead talking about the mental deterioration of Jekyll. The distinction of the unplanned and
unwelcome changes between Jekyll and Hyde is symbolic to the fact that as the lines forming the
distinction of the personality of Hyde and Jekyll began to merge thus so did the transition. The
huge importance of the different physicality of Jekyll and Hyde is illustrative to the completely
different characters and the way they are as humans. In Victorian society you could be judged as a
rapist, murderer, crook or just plainly evil simply by the way you looked. Stevenson played on

Cross Cultural Communication And The Classroom
Cross Cultural Communication The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable
one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself [Shaw]. Internalize this quote begs the question,
can education make a difference? This paper will examine in detail cross cultural communication, a
cultural issue that educators must seek to address in the delivery of teaching to English Language
Learners (ELL) classroom. Moreover, the ensuing paper will analyze the problems of cross cultural
communication in the classroom of ELL; this will be followed by its relation to the theories and
application of those methods. On the other hand, the writer will outline the effects of cross cultural
communication, and how these effects can be changed into a social value through education.
Examination of Cross Cultural Communication in the Classroom Instruction and assessment are
delivered through the medium of communication, while resolution of behavioral problems involve
communication. Significantly, in a classroom with ELL/LEP learners, the job of the teacher is not
only to teach but to be a mediator between the different cultures represented in the class. What
teachers must realize is that an environment that is filled with cultural tension does not lend itself to
learning. Therefore, administrators/educators must recognize cross cultural communication as
essential in the learning environment. Collier and Powell (1990), posits ethnic background

Analysis Of The Wife Of His Youth
The Wife of His Youth is a short story by Charles Chesnutt about a bourgeoisie man named Mr.
Ryder who is in a dilemma when the wife of his past shows up a day before he proposes to his
lover, Mrs. Molly Dixon. Originally Sam Taylor, an apprentice on a plantation, Mr. Ryder runs
away and settles in a light colored community Groveland where he becomes a bourgeoisie. In
Groveland, Ryder joins a colored organization Blue Veins where he further advances himself in
society and becomes the dean of the organization. The Blue Veins Society is created to establish
and maintain correct social standards among a people whose social condition presented almost
unlimited room for improvement (Chesnutt 624). As Ryder prepares for the ball and his
proposal to Molly, Liza Jane appears in his life and causes him to thwart his proposal. Instead of
proposing to Molly, he presents to his guests, Liza Jane, the wife of his youth. Chesnutt s The Wife
of His Youth addresses raceand Chesnutt s view on race, societal standards, language, and the
significance of Liza Jane s appearance with racial identity and the color line.
Race is an important element in The Wife of His Youth and can be prominently seen in Ryder s
encounter with Liza Jane. Ryder is a mulatto man, but has long forgotten his past and has
embraced the middle class societal life until Liza Jane presents him the case of her missing
husband. When Ryder meets her, she is described as, And she was very black, so black that

Fritz Haber s Accomplishments
Fritz Haber was a Jewish scientist that used his knowledge of science in ways that effected our
world. He led the push for inventing chemicals that he thought would be beneficial for Germany
to use during WWI. He is known as the father of chemical warfare , scientist of death or the
immoral scientist due to the tremendous amount of pain, suffering and death that he caused. Haber
s immense sense of nationalism led him to making many ambiguous decisions. The long term
effects of Haber s inventions were negative and many people lost their lives because of him. Haber
s talent in science led him to create weapons that were very destructive. He created chlorinegas that
he believed would help Germany advance in WWI. By the spring of 1915,... Show more content on

They convulsed in pain, tearing at their throats. Pus and phlegm filled their lungs. Yellow mucous
frothed from their mouths before they coughed out blood. Their faces twisted in agony, they
drowned on the land. Terrified by this new horror, many Allied soldiers ran, leaving a six
kilometer gap in the line (Barach N.P.). Soldiers endured excruciating pain when this lethal gas
was released onto the battlefield. Due to a gap that was left in the line, Haber s plan to gain an
advance was unsuccessful. Fritz Haber got his way. On April 22nd, he made hell worse (Barach
N.P.). The war was already very devastating and Haber s introduction of chlorine gas made the
war even more tragic. The explosives he was manufacturing were horrific enough, but his work
on poison gas had already killed German troops in test runs (Barach N.P.). Haber was not only
demolishing thousands of people on the opposing side, but he was also killing his own men that
he was dependent on to succeed in the war. Further weapons of industrial warfare were
developed. For three more years the war dragged on until no more blood could be shed. At 11am

The developments and transformations of technological revolutions, from the First Industrial
Revolution to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, have plays important roles and significantly
influences our working environments, social commutations, and economic development (Schwab,
2016). Following by the breakthrough of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the expanding of digital

Bulk Third Stage Separator Exploded
1. What happened? Describe the actual realisation of the event.
On March 4, 1998, near Pitkin, Louisiana, a Bulk Third stage separator in a Facility owned by
Sonat Exploration co. exploded, causing around $200,000 worth of damage to equipment and
resulted in 4 deaths. The process utilised two wells, where one was located 2 miles (3.2kms) away.
In order for ideal production, the pipelines needed to be purged to remove the air as the air was
purged it was unable to escape to the atmosphere, resulting in over pressurisation within the tanks
which were unaccounted for, resulting in rupturing of the tank, releasing flammable material which
in present with any ignition source ignited resulting in a large fireball.

As shown in Figure 2; valve 11 and 13 must remain open during the process (Planned Valve
Lineup) however, the valves 11 and 13 were closed during the process (As Found Valve Lineup)
for the third stage separator. Since the valves were closed, there was not a process by which the
purge gas could vent out. The purge gas could have vented out through the block valve 14 and 15,
however they remained closed (See Figure 2). A Block valve does not replace a pressurerelief
system but can contribute to the division of the separator and the storage tanks. As a result of the
valves remaining closed, there was a build up of high pressure purge gas within the vessel. Hence
leading to one aspect of the failure. Whilst designing the system, Sonat considered the third stage
separator as a vapour recovery tower which was identified as a storage tank. Consequently, the
design was done accordingly and there was a lack of a pressure relief system which would account
for any human errors and mechanical failures that may occur. Furthermore, Sonat did not produce
any documented piping and instrumental diagram before the incident. This meant that, thorough
analyses of the plant could not have been done or was either done ineffectively. Hence, safety
issues concerning the plant were not addressed and appropriate modifications were not made which
could have prevented

Examples Of Stereotyping In Grendel

he tries to be friends with human by showing his sorrow. However, people in the meadhall think
that Grendel kills the man and he brings to the corpse to show off his strength and warns
mankind to stay away, people sees Grendel as a threat to them. People misunderstand Grendel s
because of Grendel s appearance, Grendel looks like a monster, and monster is always evil and
violent in human s perspective, they judge solely base on one s appearance, thus they are
stereotyping Grendel. Stereotyping is a very common phenomenon in today society, people tend
to impose everything that they acknowledged about a specific kind of people on to every one of
them, we categorized people by their skin colors, sex, religions, cultural background, etc. I have
seen a lot of examples of stereotyping in school community, when people say, That s so Asian
when they see people have kimchi or chow mein for lunch; when boys think girls are not strong

Marketing Research Case Study: Sperry/MacLennan Architects and Planners

Marketing Research can be designed for many scenarios. It is often referenced in existing

Key Issues
When a company desires to expand globally, there are several business decisions to make. The
physical expansion can often enough be one of the greatest initial challenges, but then it is followed
by cultural adjustments, new laws and borders. In the case study of the Sperry/MacLennan
Architecture firm, the company s desire to globally expand could present problems to implement as
by not considering other key markets.
The architecture firm is focused on growth and desires to design two sports facilities per year
post expansion. Often when companies are in a major expansion time, they may not take the
necessary steps to fully research all options. The Sperry/MacLennan Firm is no exception to this.
The company desires to jump on what seems to be a great opportunity, however, may not be
investing in the necessary resources to research it properly. Other markets that should be up for
consideration are parts of Europe or other areas within the United States (McDaniel, Jr, 2007).
The United States is one of the largest economies in the world. When the country thrives, there is
great opportunity and when the country is pained with recession the entire world feels it. A
potential challenge in expanding into the United States would be finding opportunities to build.
The company has chosen to focus on sports facilities, and within the new target market they see

Why Do People Suffer Cost For Performance Faster And More...
Taking on many different task and multitask is not something many are gifted at. Sometimes doing
one task at a time becomes more beneficial then doing two or more at a time. In this research
Brooklyn College students decided to test if performance faster and more accurate for task repeat
thank task switches and do people suffer cost in performance when switching between two data?
After trials of taskmultitasking with manipulations like task sequence and cue target delays it was
concluded that task switching can cause task cost and task switching is with and with out delays
are still slower then with no task switching.
Task switching Task sequence effect of reaction timeand error rate Taking on many tasks at the

Throughout our day we like to take on more then one task at a time to finish something faster or to
minimize time but research has shown that task switch can cost us time. Stephen Monsell (2003)
conducted a study called Task Switching and concluded that switching between tasks can cause us
time because the brain required loading time , which hinders the focus on the actual task. Loading
time lets our brain focus completely on one task and when that loading time isn t completed it
becomes hard to focus on that specific task; let alone execute it correctly. This causes us to take up
time in between task switching because our brain tries to adjust to the task and

Teaching Principles Of The Game Teaching Essay
3. Teaching principles in the use of the game teaching
If teachers want to play a better role of game teaching, they must focus more on the following
points. First, game contents and methods require national design. Based on game teaching, teachers
will reasonably and flexibly arrange teaching activities, avoiding excessive interference on students.
Through a series of activities, students attentions are kept so that the whole learning goes toward
the direction of teaching principles.
Second, game teaching is more difficult to organize in the classroom because of students lacking
autonomy, and the classroom will become confusing. All of these should be taken into full
consideration while designing class activities. Usually there are five principles that should be
noticed(Chen Shuting,2008).
3.1 Objective principle
English classroom games should have a clear purpose. While designing a game, teachers must be
very clear about the purpose of the game is to let students master something. The objective of the
game is not only to activate atmosphere to make students feel at ease, but also allow them to obtain
knowledge, making the game serve the purpose of language training, pronunciation correcting,
grammar consolidating. The design should be combined with teaching purpose of the game, and the
game s designing and carrying out have to stick to the teaching content. Thus, the design of the
game must run through the theme, lest students only remember the game but not knowing what

Loss Of Faith In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Finally, Goodman Brown loses his faith in God because he believes Satan s lies to justify his sin.
First, Brown believes Satan s claim that he can never be righteous because sinning is part of his
human nature. When Satan shows Brown the true character of his family and spiritual advisors at
the witch meeting, Satan remarks triumphantly There... are all whom ye have reverenced from
youth. Ye deemed them holier than yourselves, and shrank from your own sin, contrasting it with
their lives of righteousness, and prayerful aspirations heavenward. Yet, here are they all, in my
worshiping assembly! ...Evil is the nature of mankind (Hawthorne 269). Thus, throughout Goodman

Satan tells him You will think better of this by and by...Let us walk on, nevertheless, reasoning as

(Hawthorne 263). Then, Brown begins to think that he can leave Faith just for a little while and
after this one night, I ll cling to her skirts and follow her to Heaven (Hawthorne 262). With this
excellent resolve for the future, Goodman Brown felt himself justified in making more haste on his
present evil purpose (Hawthorne 262). In the essay Young Goodman Brown: Hawthorne s
Condemnation of Conformity , Terence J. Matheson describes Brown s condition perfectly by
writing that Brown thinks he can consciously perform secret acts of evil and return, unscathed, to
the fold of true virtue; that... while simultaneously doing evil things, he can still be virtuous and
get to Heaven (293). Thus, Brown struggles with his faith in the Lord because he believes Satan s
lie that he can leave faith and return to it at any time he pleases. Ultimately, Brown loses his faith
in God because he decides to believe Satan s lie that sin is part of his nature, that he will find
happiness on the path of sin, and that he can leave his faith and return to it at any

  • 2. Court System Should Use Mediation As An Alternative... Why the court system should use Mediation as an Alternative Dispute Resolution Civil lawsuits can happen at any moment out of disputes between business partners, family members, neighbors and government individuals and it must be followed by certain steps. for example, pleadings, discovery, trial, and possible appeals. This is how alternate dispute resolutions were developed. Alternate Dispute Resolutions were developed in response to the expense and difficulty of bringing a lawsuit. Some examples of resolutions are; mediation, arbitration, negotiation, mini trial, fact finding and using a judicial referee (pg 59). Even though arbitration is the most common form of resolution, I believe mediation is the best way to reach a settlement for both parties while saving them time and money. This is of course depending on the case. Three reasons why I believe mediation is a good form of resolution are First, because the plaintiff has more freedom to take certain actions before taking their case to trial. Second, because it would end up being less costly. Lastly, because the plaintiff can gather all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe the plaintiff has more freedom to take certain actions before taking their case to trial, as opposed to arbitration, where a third party decides the dispute and the arbitration agreement often describes a specific procedure that must be followed for a case to proceed through an arbitration (pg 59 60) . For example, a lot of cases are family related problems where there are emotions involved. It can simply be that both parties are misunderstanding each other or don t know how to deal with a certain situation. A mediator helps both parties see the other s side of the problem making it easier in a more relaxed environment, to come up with a settlement, then to take it to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quote by Cyrano is one of many interesting quotes that the play Cyrano de Bergerac contains. The play is a dramatic comedy written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand about a cadet named Cyrano who has fallen in love with the beautiful women Roxane. On the contrary, Roxanne, which is a movie based off of the play Cyrano de Bergerac, takes place in the 1980 s and takes the same plot. It was introduced in the United Kingdom in 1905 and now consists of a number of different products. Every product in the Dairy Milk line is made exclusively with milk chocolate. Cadbury s Daily Milk has a range of different flavours, all equally famous around the world. This case study relates to the topic of advertising which we studied in class. Cadbury decided not to focus on the chocolate in their advertisements, but instead to focus on entertaining the public. This led to the creation of the three memorable advertisements outlined above, Gorilla , Airport Trucks and Eyebrows . All these advertisements incorporated the Cadbury trademark colour purple into the ads and displayed the Cadbury Dairy Milk logo and slogan A Glass and a Half Full of Joy . All the ads embraced the popularity of viral advertising and used this very much to their advantage and were a huge hit on YouTube and on social networking sites. They became a firm favourite among the online community. They told the public nothing about Dairy Milk. Rather than using the chocolate as the main focal point, Cadbury decided to use emotional appeals to attract the public s attention. Many in the industry viewed this as a huge risk, but it is one that seems to have worked for Cadbury. These three ads are very similar as they don t focus on the Cadbury bar they focus on entertaining the viewer by their use of a gorilla, airport trucks and the two children moving their eyebrows. • 13. black families Essay example Family is a basic unit in every society. However, the makeup of a family is more complex to define. There are so many types of families that it is impossible to have one distinct definition in trying to explain how a true family is defined. For example, there are married couples with or without children, single parent families, and even families headed by gay menor lesbians. These may not have been considered families not too long ago, but now must be recognized because we live in such a diverse society. Extended Family As I stated before the extended family has played an important role in African American families throughout history. Extended family is made up of the family that is outside of your immediate nuclear family, your uncles, aunts, grandparents and/or cousins. I don t come from a nuclear family, instead I m from a single parent family, so my mom usually depended on some members of our extended family to help get by . Even now, I m living with my grandparents, so my extended family has always played an important role, at least to this point, in my life. The extended family is sometimes used as an economic unit. African American families are especially known for this type of households. It allows the family to use resources and exchange goods and services, and other things that probably wouldn t possible if they were on their own (Dickerson, 1995). This type of living arrangement goes back to West African cultures. For example, in the Ashanti tribe young women remained in their family compound because the mothers weren t believed to be able to manage on their on. So they stayed and received help from the older women in the tribe and other young mothers to help care for the children (Dickerson, 1995). An extended family gives children someone other than their mother or father to relate to (Staples, 1994). It can be viewed as a special friendship that isn t shared with either of the parents. Here we were born; here we wanted to live. We had tasted of its freedom and learned of its brave hopes for democracy. It was too late, much too late for us to turn back. (Sone 124). This statement is key to understanding much of the novel, Nisei Daughter, written by Monica Sone. From one perspective, this novel is an autobiographical account of a Japanese American girl and the ways in which she constructed her own self identity. On the other hand, the novel depicts the distinct differences and tension that formed between the Issei and Nisei generations. Moreover, it can be seen as an attempt to describe the ... I think Monica Sone focuses on, and clearly shows, the tension that arose in the Japanese American community because they felt torn between two distinct cultures and amongst themselves. There was also much confusion in this pre World War II and during WWII era concerning the place of Japanese Americans in the United States. The Issei, or first generation of immigrants from Japan, were generally highly organized in their communities. They tended to stay in close connection with traditional Japanese culture. The Issei spoke their native language, practiced traditional Japanese customs, and formed church groups, and other social communities amongst themselves. Similarly, the Nisei, or second generation Japanese American, were also highly organized and formed strong ties amongst themselves separate from the Issei. The Nisei attended Japanese schools, which enhanced their use of the Japanese language, but more importantly, created a social network of peers. They participated in church programs, and sports teams together. One main difference between the Issei and Nisei was that the Nisei were considered Americans. Before learning more about the sixth mass extinction, you ll have to first understand what biodiversity is and what will happen when you tamper with it. According to Anup Shah, author of Why is Biodiversity Important? Who Cares, biodiversity means the variety of life on Earth or in an ecosystem. Every species plays an important role in the ecosystem or in the world, no matter how big or small. A way to incorporate this into easier terms is the food chain or food web. Altering the biodiversity could cause the loss of an environment such as the Malayan field rat incident in the Chiew Larn islands. Laurance, William wrote the article, Islands of Extinction, which speaks of the Chiew Larn and how the reservoir was flooded. Larger animals perished due to the fact of how small Chiew Larn islands were during the flood. Chiew Larn island measures from 1 hectare, 2.5 acres, to 60 hectares, 148 acres. Some large animals such as tigers, deer, and elephants might have disappeared into the forest surrounds the reservoir. Because of this flood, it was easier for the Malayan field rat to come and invade the Chiew Larn islands. One of William colleague, Tony Lynam, traveled and did an experiment on the Chiew Larn islands after the flood. Tony s experiment was to use baited live traps to capture small mammals left on the island and ear tags them. The result that Lynam had discovered was astounding because the native mammal species had vanished within 10 hectares of the area (Laurance, 2014). The tragic change of the environment had lost the once healthy and plentiful biodiversity in the area. This is the start of an invader known as the Malayan field rat. Potential For Victoria s Dairy Industry Potential for Victoria s Dairy Industry to Move towards a Partial Mixed Ration Feeding System Jasmine Hasluck Feed is a major cost in the production of milk so it is important for Victorian dairy farmers to consider which feeding strategy is going to be the most efficient in generating high profit and productivity. We can broadly group dairy feeding strategies into 5 systems (Little, S 2010). System 1 is pasture based with other forages and up to 1 tonne of grain or concentrates fed in bail. System 2 is pasture based with other forages and more than 1 tonne of grain or concentrate fed in bail. System 3 is a partial mixed ration (PMR) fed on a feed pad, grazed pasture and grain or concentrate may be fed in bail. System 4 is a hybrid system, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It requires minimal capital and infrastructure by allowing cattle to graze pasture. However this system has become less efficient as Victorian dairy farms have become more intense and climatic conditions and milk prices are volatile. Since the price of milk became deregulated in 2000 there was a push for Australian dairy farms to become more productive to remain competitive with international dairy industries (Edwards, G 2003). This led to increases in stocking density and ultimately put pressure on pasture supply. Rainfall is a limiting factor on pasture growth and year to year variability in rainfall has had a huge negative effect on Victorian dairy farmers. In 2009/10 Victoria was faced with severe droughts, which showed a fall in milk production of over 340 million litres (Dairy Australia, 2015). During an extended period of low rainfall the quantity and quality of pasture is limited, which means pasture based farms are forced to buy in supplementary feed and/or irrigation water to satisfy the feed requirements of dairy cattle. Climatic variability poses a high risk in this system, which has led to farmers to start considering other feeding options such as a partial mixed ration which might alleviate this risk. Figure 1. In this time period when technology has become prevalent, it is almost impossible for someone to not have constant contact with such gadgets on an everyday basis. As technology becomes more advanced, human beings are further entrenched in this field of innovation. In fact, some have claimed that their dependence on technology is so extreme that instead of using other means, they strive to eliminate its negative effects through more innovation (Dreyfuss). Such overdependence can be considered as technology addiction. One of the most prominent changes that sparked this addiction is the Industrial Revolution, a boom in technological progress. As scientists sole goal during the Industrial Revolution was to innovate, they became too fixated on their passion and were ignorant of the consequences of their inventions. With the rapid increase in the number of factories and machinery, pollution and grim working conditions quickly ensued. Without realizing how severe the negative implications of technology could be, society was not able to keep pace with the immense amount of pollution and unsanitary living conditions ( Industrial Revolution ). In Shelley s novel, Victor Frankenstein, the fanatical natural philosopher, represents the scientists collective perspective while his creation embodies the very ideal of technology. As Victor becomes extremely obsessed with finding the origin of life , he does not care about any other elements around him, including his friends and his environment. On the other hand, his creation, though a naturally gentle being, becomes destructive as he is disdained by humanity for his monstrous appearance (Shelley). During the war, in a meeting with advisors, he formulated a set of fourteen suggestions, which subsequently dropped into enemy territory and eventually helped form the Treaty of Versailles. It is very likely he would want to see this through to the end and make sure that world war would never happen again. Because of this, many of his fourteen points were very peaceful and did not appoint a winner or loser. It also required a great deal of international cooperation in which many countries were not ready to participate. Absolute freedom of naval navigation in either peace or war is quite a long stretch for many of the nations that had just been severely battered and blockaded. International reduction of arms and the removal of economic barriers had the possibility of reducing the defense, both militarily and economically to dangerously low levels. His fourteen points also made many suggestions concerning land and areas that had been involved in conflict stretching back even to the Prussian occupation of Alsace Lorraine. Such suggestions included an evaluation of colonial claims, of Russian territory, and the restoration of states like Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro. Of course, the Alsace Lorraine was to be restored to France, which caused even more of a struggle for Germany to support itself. All of these were penultimate to Wilson s sincere desire for a league of many nations working together to promote world peace. This also means it s time to pull out all those colourful woollies that have been languishing in the cupboard, and maybe buy some new ones to stay in sync with the season s trends. Gone are the days when the over sized woolens came in monotonous and boring winter shades. Now, you can splurge on colours and watch your child radiate the brightness. Red is big for girls and boys, and the metallics that lit up the runways in the fall are also gracing kids winter lines. When choosing woolens for your child, practicality is of utmost importance. But don t overlook the fashion angle. Kids, these days, are extremely conscious about what they wear. Here are a few winter must haves for your child. 1. Just jackets Your child s winter wardrobe would be incomplete without a warm and colourful jacket. Depending on where you are stationed, you can opt for a quilt lined jacket, a football jacket, a classic denim one or the contemporary ones that look more like coats. Cotton, Light and medium poly fill jackets are in fashion these days, with sweat jackets ruling the fashion scene. Jackets, not only provide ample warmth, but when zipped right up, take care of the entire upper torso without you having to worry much. Little girls can add a few frills and flowers to their jackets without thinking twice. And if it s not too cold, they can even go for chic shrugs. Tip: Here s a word ... The plot beholds a scientist who finds a way to literally separate his good from his evil by drinking a potion. The plot picks up on the Victorian hypocrisy that crippled people into being society s idea of good and the shallow nature of the Victorians and how they judged character by appearance. I believe this to be significant to the fact that Hyde is becoming stronger and less willing to do as dictated, and because he, the inner demon, has been exercised at such a severe extent he had become a bigger part of Jekyll and so containing the inner beast becomes harder. Stevenson writes the powers of Hyde seemed to grow with the sickliness of Jekyll. I do not think he wrote this meaning a literal sickness but was instead talking about the mental deterioration of Jekyll. The distinction of the unplanned and unwelcome changes between Jekyll and Hyde is symbolic to the fact that as the lines forming the distinction of the personality of Hyde and Jekyll began to merge thus so did the transition. The huge importance of the different physicality of Jekyll and Hyde is illustrative to the completely different characters and the way they are as humans. • 55. Loss Of Faith In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown Finally, Goodman Brown loses his faith in God because he believes Satan s lies to justify his sin. First, Brown believes Satan s claim that he can never be righteous because sinning is part of his human nature. When Satan shows Brown the true character of his family and spiritual advisors at the witch meeting, Satan remarks triumphantly There... are all whom ye have reverenced from youth. Ye deemed them holier than yourselves, and shrank from your own sin, contrasting it with their lives of righteousness, and prayerful aspirations heavenward. Yet, here are they all, in my worshiping assembly! ...Evil is the nature of mankind (Hawthorne 269). Thus, throughout Goodman Brown s experience, Satan tries to convince Brown that since everyone else is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Brown tells Satan that he wants to return back to his faith because of his guilty conscience, Satan tells him You will think better of this by and by...Let us walk on, nevertheless, reasoning as we go, and if I convince thee not, thou shalt turn back. We are but a little way in the forest, yet (Hawthorne 263). Then, Brown begins to think that he can leave Faith just for a little while and after this one night, I ll cling to her skirts and follow her to Heaven (Hawthorne 262). With this excellent resolve for the future, Goodman Brown felt himself justified in making more haste on his present evil purpose (Hawthorne 262). In the essay Young Goodman Brown: Hawthorne s Condemnation of Conformity , Terence J. Matheson describes Brown s condition perfectly by writing that Brown thinks he can consciously perform secret acts of evil and return, unscathed, to the fold of true virtue; that... while simultaneously doing evil things, he can still be virtuous and get to Heaven (293). Thus, Brown struggles with his faith in the Lord because he believes Satan s lie that he can leave faith and return to it at any time he pleases. Ultimately, Brown loses his faith in God because he decides to believe Satan s lie that sin is part of his nature, that he will find happiness on the path of sin, and that he can leave his faith and return to it at any ...
