Cultural Perspectives On American Expansionist, Colonial...
As Yehuda Berg said, words have energy and power with the ability to help...[and] to harm.
Expanding upon his reflection to see varying social perspectives on American expansionist, colonial
and slave society contexts, one notes that officials of European descent including Meriwether
Lewis, William Clark and John Eliot converted white words and ideas into literal and figurative
terms that they believed Native Americans mutually understood to persuade tribal leaders to adopt
white mores. Accordingly, some Native Americans responded to these jabs of white coercion
through outright resistance while others re enacted white behaviors to receive preferential
treatment from white leaders and gain social influence that had the potential to undermine white
hegemony. Building off of these indigenous efforts to reclaim lost territory, many Southern black
slaves adapted to the ongoing tolerance of church ministries and loopholes in slave masters
restrictions to slightly advance African beliefs atop Christianity and syncretically empower black
rituals. While white expansionists engaged in brief, unbalanced negotiations to judge and then
exploit Native Americans, certain indigenous people broke out of the ongoing Eurocentric decorum
of noble savagery with colonial authorities to pursue sociopolitical agency and many black slaves
interbred Christian and African beliefs to fashion their own religious subculture over time. Thus,
throughout these cases, both white and non white figures of

Living And Working Conditions In Australia
Living and working conditions near the turn of the 20th century in Australia was very diverse
and many social issues where apparent. Firstly, working conditions where often poor and the
majority of working class Australians had little to no spare time due to being devoted to their
jobs. Many men felt entitled to be the strength of a household and provide for the family, and
often women and children had to seek employment because most families needed more income
flow, however women mostly tended to their household duties . Working conditions where poor
and jobs consisted of long hours of labor and little pay, however 4 weeks annual leave was granted
just as it is today. Secondly, living conditions where very cramped and unsafe, the average

Surface Book Is A Tablet Laptop Device That Is Well...
Surface Book is a tablet laptop device that is well designed and created by Microsoft Surface,
part of the Microsoft Enterprise. Surface Book is outstanding from different surfaces mostly
because of its separable Keyboard, which is made of a dynamic fulcrum hinge. The keyboard
carries a second battery other than the one inside the main screen to increase the battery s life.
Opposite to Surface Pro that is a tablet, Surface Book is the first ever Microsoft laptop.
(Microsoft.com)
Microsoft announced the creation of Surface Book on October 6, 2015, at Windows 10 Devices
Event. Panos Panay, the vice president of Surface Computing, announced this device as being a
laptop that is going to compete with the with the MacBook Pro of the Apple Corporation. They also
announced that Surface Book is compatible with the Surface Pen, and it has all of the features of
the Microsoft Surface alongside with new and fascinating features. (Microsoft.com)
Surface Book, according to Microsoft.com, consists of a screen with a 13.5 inches (34 cm), and
3000x2000 resolution that allows this device work like other laptops. It also has a detachable
keyboard that allows Surface Book to function both as laptop and a tablet. To reach this purpose,
Microsoft constructed the hinge by nickel titanium. Nickel titanium contracts to electrical current,
therefore pressing the release button can separate the hinge from the keyboard. This hinge is known
as the dynamic fulcrum hinge. This hinge of the surface also

Edna s Impression Management In The Awakening
As advised by the doctor, Leonce decides to take a hands off approach when dealing with Edna.
With this newly found freedom from her husband, Edna was able to do things such as get a
smaller home to call hers. Because Edna did not care about the impression the new house gave to
the community, Leonce had to take care of the situation and save face (Chopin 127) in order to
keep up with the impression management of the family. He did not want others to think that there
was something wrong with their marriage. Edna was able to express her peculiarity because Leonce
could not control her actions. It was with this newly found freedom that Edna s character was able
to grow and develop a sense of who she really is along with her impression management... Show

Edna cannot live the life she wishes to with the positions and statuses she must fill in her society.
Peggy Skaggs believes that it is impossible for Edna to be a complete person with her role of being
a wife and mother as defined by her society. Allowing herself the choice, Edna decides to be the
artist whose courageous soul ... dares and defies (Chopin 156). Without a thought in mind, she
chooses her final path to be the courageous one that matches up with her desires and quests
towards freedom. Because Edna does not care about the societal rules, she stops worrying about
her own impression management. Kate Chopin demonstrates Edna as being willing to give her life
for her children but unwilling to give herself up for them (64). In other words, Edna would give
everything for her children, except for the vital aspects of herself. This would be her freedom and
individuality. So, even though the suicide was not in the best interest of her children, Edna still
follows through in order to achieve the essentials leaving behind the impression of being unattached
from society and the societal structures set up within the

Traditional American Family Essay
When the idea of a family life first began, the man was supposed to be the sole breadwinner
while the wife stayed home to cook or clean or take care of the children. A traditional American
family used to be a mom and a dad, with a few kids. However, that white picket fence lifestyle
has become almost abnormal now. Ever since the choices of divorce, homosexuality, even role
reversal have been offered to families things have never been quite the same. In the early days,
divorce was an extremely shameful thing. The concept of for better or worse truly held it s
meaning. A man and a woman would almost never split up, no matter how bad things got. Today,
divorce papers can be mailed and signed with virtually no hassle, making the ending of a marriage...

A century ago, homosexuality would have been a taboo thought. A familywas made of a man and
his wife, with their natural children. With the choice of homosexuality being introduced, people
can now marry whoever they want to and have kids from a surrogate, from adoption, or even
from artificial insemination has greatly expanded familial bounds. A century ago, the man of
the household was the one that brought home the bacon. His wife would be waiting for him at
home with a cold beer or other beverage and have his favorite show on if a radio or TV was
available. Fast forward a century and stay at home dads are becoming more common. Single
parents are almost normal to see, and the woman of the house is now allowed to earn a
paycheck. By giving families a choice in how they want to go about daily life has greatly changed
how families work now. As Pew Research Center states it, Parents today are raising their children
against a backdrop of increasingly diverse and, for many, constantly evolving family forms. By
contrast, in 1960, the height of the post World War II baby boom, there was one dominant family

Marxist Reading Of Dracula
In 1897 Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, a novel that would permanently alter society s perception of
the modern vampire. The story is based loosely on the actions of a violent, bloodthirsty prince
named Vlad the Impaler who ruled over Romania in the 1400 s. The story of Dracula closely
mimics the way in which society functions in response to power. The Marxist theory can be
applied to the novel, displaying society s response to upper class power. The novel exemplifies
the effects of unequal social classes, abuse of power and manipulation of the proletariat. Evidently,
the Marxist theory allows the reader to see the socio economic impact of their leaders as displayed
in literature. It provides the reader with insight regarding the value of people... Show more content

He uses his social status and wealth as a way to achieve his malicious goal of transforming London
into a vampire hub. Dracula buys large amounts of real estate, gold and other materialistic items as
a way to get closer to his goal. In the novel, Dracula uses a fake name to buy multiple estates so
that he can have lairs all over Europe. According to the Marxist theory, the upper class is more
inclined to use exploitation as a means to move forward. Dracula uses people as pawns for his
own personal gain. In chapter two, Dracula says, I have been so long master that I would be
master still, or at least that none other should be master of me (Stoker, 27). Clearly, Dracula
acknowledges his own power. He refuses to be under the command of another. Evidently,
Dracula is confident in his own abilities. He believes that because of his title, he will easily be
able to get his way. When Dracula speaks of London, the audience sees his longing and
desperation to have power there. On page 27 he says, Well, I know that, did I move and speak in
your London, none there are who would not know me for a stranger. That is not enough for me.
Here I am noble (Stoker, 27). Dracula feels the need to exercise control everywhere he goes. In
today s society, it is not uncommon to see a person in a position of power, abuse their privileges.
For example, in 1975 Indira Gandhi got in trouble for committing election fraud. This is a prime
example of someone believing it is acceptable for them to alter the rules for their own personal
gain. Marxism in literature displays the importance of holding those in power accountable for their
actions. Another example of Dracula s abuse of power is seen when he moves from Romania to
London. Dracula is obsessed with the need to attain more power, therefore he is not satisfied with
only Romanian people. He believes he can obtain more victims in London. Furthermore, he takes

A Dynamic Structural Design For Web Application
A DYNAMIC STRUCTURAL DESIGN FOR WEB APPLICATION
WITH CATEGORIZATION OF SYSTEMATIC DEMEANOR
1. INTRODUCTION
This research is concerned with the study and analysis of dynamic architecture and proposes an
improved structural design based on categorization based dynamic architecture. Categorization of
systematic demeanor plays a significant role in dynamic structural design of architecture to
determine the systematic approach, browsing, performance, accuracy, multimedia access and
navigation. By achieving systematic approach, the hierarchical structure is the idea which is behind
the categorization technique.
The extensive opportunities and convenient software design, and the larger demand for such
applications have given rise to a considerable increase in the number of people working on web
applications design, Khan 2014. The PHP, J Query is some of the important scripting languages that
were used for web applications development. PHP is a server side scripting language employed for
web development but also considered as a general purpose programming language. But in the
recent times, young keen people have begun to design Web pages with the help of scripting
languages without even possessing the knowledge of even the simplest principles of software
design.
Several authors have introduced different techniques for minimizing the complexity. One of the
important methods is the introduction of the design patterns in the PHP and the creation of a new

Riis Pride And Prejudice Chapter 3
After reading chapter 3, it was interesting to see how Riis separated each nationality based on
tenements. It consisted of nationalities based on Italian, German, French, African, Spanish,
Bohemian, Russian, Scandinavian, Jewish, and Chinese. He then began to explain how each
nationality treated tenement life. For example, The Irishman does not naturally take kindly to
tenement life, though with characteristic versatility he adapts him to its conditions at once. It does
violence, nevertheless, to the best that is in him, and for that very reason of all who come within
its sphere soonest corrupts him. Based on his information, it seems that the poor can be classified
as rude because of the conditions they live in. Because of the conditions ... Show more content on

Being that they are the only foreigners in the city, they seem to represent those who counts no
wealthy man of his race, none who has not to work hard for a living, or has got beyond the reach
of the tenement. They seem to be less discriminatory on others and rely on looking pasts their living
conditions.
In chapter 5, Riis focuses mainly on Italian immigrants. He speaks about how mostly
Italians did their jobs without no complaints and put up with those who needed it. With that
being said, a lot of the time Italians were then being taken advantage of for their labor and not
speaking an ounce of English made things even more difficult for them. Many worked in ash
barrels or even in dumpsters. They occasionally also gambled and police would have to get
involved due to violence such as death. Overall, despite being somewhat like slaves by landlords
and the rich and trying to have fun when possible, Italians were known as gay, light hearted and
inoffensive as a child. I believe when going through an Italian immigrant s life, times were tough
but they kept perseverance through hard times.

Another important factor to marketing a beer is how it is bottled.
There are many schools of thought when it comes to putting beer into a glass bottle or
aluminum can. Economics plays an immense role when the decision has to be made whether to
can or bottle beer. There appears to be a stigma associated with canned beer because consumers
tend to think canned beer has a metallic aftertaste. Today s advances in technology, however,
have put that stigma to rest by lining the aluminum can with a water based polymer. Furthermore,
beer has many enemies, which impacts the bottling decision. Two of the greatest foes are oxygen
and sunlight. Bottles tend to be expensive and are generally clear. When they are not filled to the
top, oxygenation will occur and ruin a good beer. Sunlight will alter the compounds of hops while
oxygen will quickly make a beer stale. Bottled beer also requires more labeling and extra
packaging, which need to be disposed thus making them a not very environmentally friendly
product and also makes it more expensive to produce.
GVBC is of the opinion a good craft beer should be canned. The benefits of using cans as opposed
to bottles when bottling beer are numerous:
Canned beer has very little headspace and makes it harder for beer to become stale
Sunlight cannot get through aluminum
Cans are lightweight thus reducing shipping costs
Cans do not break making it easier to take beer on outings
Bottling decisions are a

What Church Organisations Support Homelessness Essay
Thanks Ryan, now I will be talking about What Church organisations support homelessness and
why do they? The main church organisation I will be exploring is Salvation Army. Around

neighbour, your friends even your family. There is a wide diversity of people turning to us for help
for many different reasons. Broken marriages, disabilities, domestic violence, mental illness or
breakdown may all contribute. The largest single cause of homelessnessin Australia is domestic and
family violence, which overwhelmingly affects women and children. The Salvation Army doesn t

support groups, and programs specifically designed to meet the needs of special populations (ie,
youth, correctional clients, intravenous drug users, women, homeless people, and particular ethnic
groups within the community). The term homelessness has been subject to contested and
nuanced interpretations and defining criteria. With nearly 1,000 individual Salvation Army
social program activities and services operating through dozens of service hubs, networks and
activity centres across Australia, criteria was developed to identify homelessness services for

Price Ceiling Bill
In light of Congress passing of the price ceiling bill, there has been a large amount of speculation
and fear mongering enforced by the media and opposing views. While the prospect of a price
ceiling is rather worrying, we are here to dispel any fears you may have. Yes, in some cases a
price ceiling may create a shortage of gasoline in the community, but with where our price shall
be set, and with our distribution of resources, we believe this issue can be resolved rather easily
and with minimum negative impact. Considering the effects of a price ceiling on the free market,
the equilibrium of supply and demand, or the set price decided on the natural process, is altered
depending on whether the price ceiling is above or below the equilibrium... Show more content on

High priority workers and commuters still get a portion of gas sufficient to sustain needs, and
finally, long distance drivers, I.E travelers, will get no privileges over other citizens. Reading
this may be disheartening to most, but I assure you that this is in a state of severe shortages, and
as I mentioned before, our price ceiling will much further above the equilibrium line, therefore
the chances of that being an issue are rather low. So to be clear on this, our price will be set at
$2.80 maximum per gallon. That way, the free market can continue to function, and will relieve a
lot of stress on the average consumer s wallet in reference to buying gasoline. And with the price
of oil continuously declining, and 60 90 years of fuel reserves at the current rate of consumption,
gas prices shouldn t ever peak above that with reasonable pricing in mind. While a price ceiling is
an anti capitalist prospect, it certainly shouldn t mean it s a negative enforcement. The Department

Capitalism And Capitalization
Introduction
War is inherent in the development of capitalism as well as a decisive phenomenon in the
transformation of the history of humanity in its different stages: from the accumulation originating,
going through the industrial revolution and the imperialist period, until now, in the era of
globalization, and their interactions are multiple and varied.
At present, these have been reinforced under the apothegm of politics as prolongation of the war ,
unlike the war as an extension of the politics , since it is a society sustained in that one.
As a starting point, it can be affirmed that the wars allowed to sit the basis for the construction of
capitalism around the world, because they pushed the shaping of the world market subjecting all
peoples to the dictation of the industrial capital cycle. However, the wars of civilization continue
until the present: primitive accumulation permanent , so that the armament is fundamental to
reproduce this production mode, or rather, destruction.
Understanding the above is essential when today the forces productive have been disrupted in
forces of destruction from its contradiction with the social relations of production: while this reality
shows the economic (the rate of profit) and sociocultural borders (individualism, patriotism) of
modern society, also enables the expansion of relations based on monopoly. Therefore, in these
circumstances, it is essential to fuel war and armament as engines of capitalist progress, which

The Effects Of Blended Family On Modern Society
The number of blended families is increasing in modern society. In fact, over 100 million
Americans are members of a blended family (Kreider). A blended family is a family consisting of
two parents that bring together children from their current and previous marriages. One or both
parents then become a stepparent to the children of their significant other. As this familydynamic
increases in modern society, many doubts arise regarding the functionality and longevity of this
family structure. Often times, people enter this new relationship with perceptions from the media or
society that lead them to believe this type of family is unable to endure.
While it is true that a blended family often times has challenging obstacles to overcome, it does not
mean that establishing a functional blended family is impossible. These families learn to work
together and get past these difficult barriers. From there, they move forward to learn not only how
to function as a family, but how to be prosperous and happy.
Because of their utmost devotion to each other, members of a blended family are able to adjust to
new situations and be just as functional as a traditional nuclear family. They even have the
potential to prosper more so than a traditional nuclear family. I will prove this by examining
relationships between children and stepparents, stepsiblings, and the positive benefits that I have
experienced being a member of a blended family myself.
A blended family may consist of a man

Theme Of Suspense In Hunters In The Snow
Like reality, fiction taps into truths of the self and relationships with others that are often without
recognition, due to refusal of acknowledgment of personal faults. In his story, Hunters in the Snow,
Tobias Wolff examines the power structure in the relationship of three primary characters along
with the power of their hunting rifles. Through the literary element of potential chance, suspense is
formed, an element of fictionthat uses sympathetic characterization in order to create an aspect of
anxiety. He does so with the use of the literary mechanisms such as surprise, mystery, suspense, and
the exploration with every possible type of conflict. As stated in Perrine s Literature collection,
suspense is more important for commercial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The comparison of commercial and literary fiction is endowed here through an alternative plot
line of the friendship. For example, the man on the seventeenth story window ledge in another
image, can be written about for commercial or literary, however, the literary story would focus
less upon whether the man will jump than on the psychological factors and life experiences that
brought him to the ledge in the first place. The alternative plot structure allows for hints to a secret
that Frank has told Kenny previously and Wolff reveals only as your jailbait, but later, Frank
explains to Tub while Kenny is hurt and freezing in the car. At the introduction, this is a widely
unexpected turn out, since this is a literary story, it does not matter whether Kenny arrives at the
hospital, for the plot has concluded with the characterization. The story ends without directions to
the hospital while Kenny freezes to death repeating his mantra that Frank told him to say, I m
going to the hospital. The incredible depth of characterization allows the reader to emote on
multiple levels for many different scenarios as Frank pulls into a restaurant to eat and discuss
things like trust, guilt, and a personal clandestine with Tub, all while leaving Kenny in the bed of
the truck, breaking all of the virtues they began with

Questions On Criminal Procedure Code
4.12 Section 433 Criminal Procedure Code Power to commute sentence
Referring, to pardon it means to forgive a person of his offence. The word pardon has been defined
as an act of grace, advancing from the power assigned with the execution of the law, which excuses
the individual on whom it is conferred upon, from the punishment the law imposes for a crime he
has committed. It affects both the punishment proposed for the offence and the guilt of the offender.
In other words, grant of pardon wipes off the guilt of accused and brings him to the original
position of innocence as if he had never committed the offence for which he was charged. Under
Indian law, the President of India and the Governors of States have been given the power to grant
pardons, reprieves, respites or remissions of punishment or to suspend, remit or commute the
sentence. The law governing grant of pardon is contained in Articles 72 and 161 of the Constitution.
4.12(1) Granting of pardon may be of two kinds.
Absolute
Absolute pardon may mark out the guilt itself. It does not lead to an acquittal unless the Court
directs. The accused is discharged permanently without demanding any condition to be fulfilled.
Conditional
In conditional pardon, the offender is let off subject to certain conditions. The violation of these
conditions will lead to renewal of his sentence and he shall be exposed to the unexhausted portion of
his punishment.

Decisional Diction In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
Poetry Essay The Road Not Taken In the narrative poem, The Road Not Taken, Robert Frost utilize
literary devices to magnified the concept of decisional dilemma and present a message on paths
chosen in the course of life. Robert Frost implemented strategic diction, sensory imagery, and
figurative language that enhances the content portrayed in the poem itself. The poem focus around
the turmoil of the two roads the speaker has to choose one being a commonly taken path and the
other one isn t commonly taken is filled with discomfort and unexpected nature . The speaker
eventually selected the route of uncertainty, yet it develops the notion of individuality that opposes
the influence of socially uniformed opinion. Forst s decision solidified the concept that each
individual possess the ability to form their own unique belief, and take their future in their own
hands. Robert Frost incorporates specific usage of dictions throughout the poem to enhance
meaning, while exerting his attitude in the context of the literature. In the first line of The RoadNot
Taken, the term diverged is placed after Two roads to introduce the story at a location where the
speaker is faced with a decision. The term word diverge projects the image that the road is
separated with the results differ based on the route the speaker chooses. The speaker responds
with I could not travel both in line 2 of the poem. The term not in this case elaborates on the fact
that the speaker is unable to foresee the outcome of both route. A significant component on why
the speaker is apprehensive on deciding which road he will ultimately take. Robert Frost
incorporates an assonance rhythm in each of his stanza with the last words of the first, third, and
fourth lines having the same ending syllable, as well as second and fourth line respectively. The
usage of an assonance in this poem represents the movement of each step that the speaker takes as
he progressively walk in the path of life he chooses.
Visual image of scenery enable the readers to merge with the environment and mental state the
speaker is currently experiencing within the realm of the literature. Frost announce that he looked

greatly benefited the eastern side of the Roman empire, but with the growing power of the east, the
west continued to crumble. And as the west falls, the east will soon follow. Ths will result in the
total fall of the Roman empire. For the east, and as far as Constantine could see, moving the
capital from the far western side (almost in the east), to the east it seemed perfect because the
location was centered perfectly for trade, and less

Garage Sales Short Story
Yesterday, my grandma and I went around on a nice spring day to go to garage sales. The first
garage sale we went to was a small little brick house with beautiful rose bushes out front. Inside
the garage I saw a nice vase with beautiful swirly blue, yellow, and green patterns, and a cork in it
to cover the top. I thought that it would look beautiful on my bookshelf, so I bought it for $3.50.
After we went to the rest of the garage sales I was very anxious to see was inside of the vase, but

City Of Detroit Case Study
On Thursday, July 28, 2013, Detroit, Michigan became the largest city in America ever to file for
bankruptcy. Established in 1701, Detroit was founded by the French explorer Antoine de la Mothe
Cadillac and a party of settlers. None of these men had any idea that Detroit would evolve into the
thriving hub of the car industry in centuries to come. In 1756, the smallpox virus and a famine
threatened the many settlers in Detroit, but did not decimate the population enough to cause the city
to collapse. In 1802, Detroit officially became a chartered city. In the United States, a charter city is
a city in which the governing system is defined by the city s own charter document rather than by
state, provincial, regional or national laws according... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 12th Street riot, one of the biggest riots in American history, took place in the city. The riot
put Detroit police against inner city black residents, and escalated to National Guard troops
being called in to fight residents. The tragic riot cost the lives of 43 people, 342 were injured,
and an astounding 7,200 civilians were arrested. 60,000 black residents of Virginia Park
neighborhood were packed into only 460 acres and were ready to explode. One night, an illegal
nightclub near the neighborhood was hosting a party on the corner of 12th street when police
arrived to arrest those in the establishment. When one bottle crashed on the street, the police
showed no interest; but when many glass bottles were thrown at patrol cars at once,, heads turned.
The riot escalated rapidly throughout the following hours and days until order was finally restored

Experiential Learning Experience Paper
Experiential Learning Activity
The experiential learning activity I will be participating in is attending Mass at a Catholic
church. In attending this experience, I hope to better understand the spiritual needs of a Catholic
individual so I can apply that in my daily nursing experience. This experiential learning activity
will also help to dispel any misconceptions I have about this religion in particular, so I can
provide better nursing care. In the end, I hope to apply the knowledge I have learned to people of
all religions so I can provide culturally safe and accountable nursing care.

stained glass windows. After finding this information, I understand why individuals hang crucifixes
in their home/bedrooms as it reminds them of Jesus sacrifice.
It was clear that the priest was very highly regarded in the church; whenever he addressed the
congregation with, may the Lord be with you, the entire congregation would respond and say, and
also with you. I am familiar with services from Protestant Christianity, specifically Christian
Reformed. Although the beliefs are similar, the worship style was extremely different. There was a

Dostoevsky s The Brothers Karamazov
The Lackey The lackey, the atheist, the murder, Pavel Fyodorvich Smerdyakov is a character who
Dostoevsky portrays in The Brothers Karamazov as the most deplorable and despicable man. He
exemplifies the most contemptible traits in people and is in many ways, the antithesis of a number
of the other characters. Smerdyakov embodies the lack of empathy and love, the contemptibility of
false intelligence, and the dangers of mindless atheism. Right from the beginning, it s clear that
Smerdkyakov is not a likable character. He is an utterly taciturn and unsociable young man and a
rather arrogant fellow who seemed to despise everybody (162 163).1 Devious and cunning,

Despite his lowborn status, Smerdyakov greatly values the idea of intelligence, and enjoys
appearing as such. After Smerdyakov seemed to display an interest in books in a bookcase, he was
offered a fiction book, but he doesn t recognize the humor, and disapproves of the made up
nature of the stories. He claims to want the truth, but he can t handle the disappointing nature of
the truth. Alternatively, when given a history book that is all about true things, Smerdyakov
thought it too boring and rejected that as well (164). Since he cannot understand humor and the
emotional emotional appeal of fiction, nor the value of the facts in non fiction works,
Smerdyakov is not a true intellectual. He is the kind of person who strives for the perceived
appearance of being learned, but refuses the chance to actually learn and gain true knowledge. To
the lackey, seeming like an intellectual gives him a feeling of superiority, which further amplifies
his disdain for people he thinks are uneducated, like Gregory and Dmitry. Smerdyakov s
appreciation for intellect is reflected in his admiration of Ivan Karamazov, the only character in
the book that he seems to have any positive regard for. On the exterior, Ivan is a progressive
thinker and an atheist, things that Smerdyakov really latches on to. Ivan s logical, progressive

A Brief Note On Unemployment And Minimum Wage Essay
Unemployment and Minimum Wage Both the microeconomics and the macroeconomics theories
dictate that an increase in the minimum wage will directly impact the rate of unemployment by
shooting upwards. As of the moment, there is a heated debate on whether the Congress should pass
a bill that seeks to increase United States minimum wage. The consequent change will eventually
have both positive as well as negative impacts on various economical aspects particularly
unemployment. As for this paper, the focus will be narrowed down to examining the link between
minimum wage and unemployment rates across states and also highlighting the current state of
unemployment in both Los Angeles and Seattle. In reference to microeconomic theory, the bare
minimum wage is considered the price level on top of the equilibrium that is set by the demand and
supply curve. A slight increase in the minimum wage greatly impacts the quantity of workers
supplied in the economy by significantly increasing due to the initial heave of interest to enroll in
the workforce. Similarly, there will be a decline in the quantity of demanded labor given that the
marginal labor cost will directly increase as the minimum wage increases. As a result of the
increased quantity supplied and the subsequent decrease in demanded quantity, there will be a
creation of labor surplus in the workforce, culminating in the increased rates of unemployment.
With an increase in the minimum wage on top of the normal equilibrium in the

problems in Guatemala, specifically with the government and the police, which makes it clear
as to why people desperately tried to escape from the oppression they faced. Intense raids took
place and police officers tortured innocent people. According to Haver, the army in Guatemala
accused villagers of being communists and later, people began to disappear and some were
violently murdered. Many people like Estevan and Esperanza feared that the government, army, or
police would view them as rebels and falsely consider them a threat, which could potentially lead
to their death. To add to these crises in Guatemala, people were also threatened if the government

Essay about Symbolism in “The Story of an Hour”
The symbols and imagery used by Kate Chopin s in The Story of an Hour give the reader a sense
of Mrs. Mallard s new life appearing before her through her view of an open window (para. 4).
Louise Mallard experiences what most individuals long for throughout their lives; freedom and
happiness. By spending an hour in a comfortable, roomy armchair (para.4) in front of an open
window, she undergoes a transformation that makes her understand the importance of her freedom.
The author s use of Spring time imagery also creates a sense of renewal that captures the author s
idea that Mrs. Mallard was set free after the news of her husband s death.

Immediately after the news of her husband s death, Mrs. Mallard races upstairs into her room
where she settles into a comfortable, roomy armchair (para.4). The armchair symbolizes the rest
from the oppressive life she had and freedom from society s expectations. Since it was tradition for
women to be married by a certain age, Louise Mallard must have obligated to marry Brently. Sitting
in the armchair, she gazes out of the window and starts indulges in deep thought, which establishes
her as an intelligent individual.
The open window from which Louise gazes is symbolic for her freedom and the good fortune that
she is now presented with. Her attention to the blue sky, fluffy clouds, tree tops and the
delicious breath of rain denote her newly found inner well being. The writer s use of language is
well chosen as it explicitly portrays Mrs. Mallard s true feelings. By capturing all the senses, the
imagery created represents Louise s new life and establishes her as a round character. The open
window provides a clear and bright view into the distance of Louise s own bright future, which was
obstructed by the demands of her husband.
As Mrs. Mallard left the room, there was a feverish triumph in her eyes, and she carried herself

Overconfidence
Much as you should be confident in your skills as a writer, you should never let this get in your
head. Overconfidence often pushes people to make mistakes and you shouldn t consider yourself
an exception. Freelance writing involves a lot of criticism, learning, and mistakes. As an online
writer, you should understand that you are neither perfect nor are you all knowing. Therefore, you
should always be open to criticism and suggestions, have an understanding of your limitations, and
always make an effort to learn more about your field of experience. The greater danger with being
overconfident is that despite making mistakes you remain oblivious. This, in turn, increases the
likelihood of repeating the same mistakes and destroys the client s confidence in you. On the same

We re all becoming poor, but we can do something
Did you know that about 4.8 million people in Canada live in poverty? It is not just the countries
in the East who you think are poor; many countries in Europe and North America have individuals
who live in poverty because of various factors affecting them. These may include low wages,
fewer benefits, housing shortage and of course, their lifestyle or way of living. Poverty can also
be tied to the government of that city or country and certain rules or laws set by the government
could affect these people. Although we are living in an era where we are making many
technological advances, poverty is still increasing. Poverty is increasing again because of
inequality, poor decisions made by some of political leaders, and by the members of our own
communities.
To understand how worse the situation of poverty has become in Canada, we have to look at
statistics that show how poverty has increased over the years. Poverty has been increasing as
residents struggle to put food on their tables. For example, in Canada, child poverty has
increased to from 12.8% to 15.1% from the mid 1990s, ( Canada Falling behind on Poverty,
Inequality, says Report. 1) and 15% of children in Canada currently live under poverty because
they have less access to necessities. It is not surprising that UNICEF has rated Canada 17th out of

Africa and other less developed countries, although not completely opening itself up to
globalisation, is accepting the internet and other telecommunications as an opportunity to gain
access to knowledge and services from around the world in a way that would have been

countries to leapfrog steps in their development of infrastructure. A poor land line telephone
system in the Philippines, for example, is being rapidly bypassed by mobile phones with internet

Liberalism, which was very prominent after the First World War (WWI) during the setting up of

Chief Seattle Essay
Chief Seattle
When stories are told about the American Indian it is usually the Indians that are looked upon as
the heathens. They are portrayed as savages who spent most of their time raiding wagon trains and
scalping the white settlers just for fun. The media has lead us to believe that the American
government was forced to take the land from these savage Indians. We should put the blame where
it belongs, on the U.S. Government who lied, cheated, and stole from the Indians forcing many
Indian leaders to surrender not only their tribes but their nation in order to save the lives of their
people.

the aspects that the settlers spent much time on trying to change of the Indians was their

is that in Catholicism there is one book, I m sure that we all have heard of it, the Bible. In
Catholicism it is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is

written up after the coming of Jesus. These scriptures are written up pretty straight forward and
they are read year in and year out. There is no room for individual interpretation by the reader, it is

My Catholic Church Experience Paper
On April 11th, 2017, I attended mass in the Blessed Edmund Chapel. Unlike other weekday

Christian household, I did not have a clue what to expect. From this experience, I was able to
gain insight into the Catholic practices and how they conduct their masses. It also helped to
expand on the teachings we discussed in religion class. When you first walked into the Blessed
Edmund Rice Chapel, you see chairs lined up in front of the altar and podium. Underneath a
majority of the chairs, lay a bible to follow along with the sermon of the mass. In front, in front of
the altar, there were two candles that a Brother lit during the mass. Even though the chapel being
small might seem like a disadvantage, I thought that this feature offered a more personal and

Biblical Worldviews
God created out of love the whole universe in a majestic way. He wants us not only to enjoy His
precious resources and satisfy our wants and needs, but also to increase and improve what we
have and not decrease or diminish it. God entrusted us with everything we have and He can call us
to account at any time, that is why we have to be well prepared for this call.
God gives humans the privilege to rule this world and to use His resources wisely and
purposefully. In Genesis 1:26, God said, Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, and
let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth,

Analysis Of The Book Night By Elie Wiesel
McBride 1 Brandy McBride McAndrew ELA August 6, 2017 Night In the book Night by Elie
Wiesel there are many instances where his use of imagery helps establish tone and purpose. For
example Elie Wiesel used fire (sight) to represent just that. The fire helps prove that the tone is
serious and mature. In no way did Wiesel try to lighten up the story about the concentration
camps or the Nazis. His use of fire also helps show his purpose. Never shall I forget that night, the
first night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times scaled. Never shall I forget
that smoke. Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw... Show more

However he then stated Where is he? This is where hanging here from this gallows... that night
the soup tasted like corpses (page 65). Here Wiesel had two very different opinions on the soup.
The way he described the soup in the first quote showed he was hungry and happy although once
he realized the truth everything changed. He soon found the soup to be repulsing and he wanted
nothing to do with it. For example when he says the soup tasted like corpses he means that they
did not feel the satisfaction of eating because they just witnessed a horrific occurrence. This
helps with tone because the reader can tell how quickly his tone went downhill. Last but not
least is the sense of smell which Wiesel used throughout the book by explaining the burners and
crematories. In front of us, those flames. In the air, the smell of burning flesh. It must have been
around midnight. We had arrived. In Birkenau (28, Wiesel). Along with the smell Wiesel had
witnessed and heard awful events that took place in the burners. Over there. Do you see the
chimney over there? Do you see it? And the flames, do you see them? (Yes, we saw the flames.)
Over there, that s where they will take you. Over there will be your grave. You still don t
understand? You sons of bitches. Don t you understand anything? You will be burned! Burned into
a cinder! Turned to ashes (30 31, Wiesel). This shows a different tone. It shows fear and worry

Facebook Case Analysis
Facebook (FB) has been dominating the social network industry since its birth in 2004. It was one
of the first social platforms that aimed to connect people all over the world together. FB has been
successful in establishing its competitive advantage relying in its network effect and its ability to
catch up with the competition.
As depicted on Figure II, FB has strength points that include: its long history and its access to
global markets over a short period of time, that enabled it to lock in a wide base of users that find
it too costly to switch to other networks that don t provide a strong motivation for switching
especially that FB has a strong ability for imitation and integration that led to a growing advertising
revenue from different advertisers that find FB to be a great source of data that they can use for
segmentation and targeting. FB weakness points are: its high dependency on advertising revenue,
its high dependency on games applications revenue and concentration of ownership in the hands
of its founder, Mr. Zuckerberg, that seems to be so innovative and successful. However, it is a
reason why long term investors may worry because there is no guarantee of the continuous of the
long term success given a single control over a public company. On the external trend, FB has an

The Black Rhinoceros ( Diceros Bicornis )
Black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis)
Eric Chiaramonte
SNHU
Literature Review
In the 1970 s the Black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) population could be numbered at around
70,000 ( Black rhinoceros , 2016). Today there are fewer than 5,000 of these animals left due to
overhunting and poaching ( Black rhinoceros , 2016). This literature review to highlights
information relevant to conservation efforts with regards to the black rhino. It looks at relevant
articles from four reputable journals and two films to establish pertinent information with regards to
conservation efforts and obstacles via artificial insemination and embryo transfer, population
dynamics, and disease. The articles will be listed in chronological order followed by the films also
being discussed in chronological order, in order to establish event trend in conservation effort. The
observation of the Black rhino is critical to establish data concerning reproductive trends, population
sizes, natural predators, social habits, and etc. which may be used to help procure a sustainable
population. From the journal Biological Conservation, the article Population characteristics and
management of black rhinoceros Diceros bicornis minor and white rhinoceros Ceratotherium simum
simum in Ndumu Game Reserve, South Africa has a significant amount of information on the
population of the black rhino within the Ndumu Game Reserve (Conway Goodman, 2016). In June
1986 the population was 42 with twenty five percent of

Manic Depression Research Paper
Manic Depression, or more commonly known as Bipolar disorder, is a disorder that causes the
patient affected to cycle through periods of depression and mania (NIMH n.d.). There are three
general types of Bipolar Disorder and then a fourth category for those who do not fall within any
of the previous categories. Bipolar I Disorder is defined by manic episodes that last at least 7
days and then a depressive episode lasting at least two weeks. Symptoms may be severe enough
to seek immediate medical care. Bipolar II Disorder is defined by recurring depressive, and
hypomanic episodes, but not to the extent of Bipolar I. Cyclothymic Disorder is defined by
numerous periods of hypomania and depression that lasts longer than two years in adults, (for...

Typical treatments for bipolar disorder include: psychotherapy, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics,
and some Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (NIMH n.d.). In some cases, doctors will
prescribe a medication to combat the depression, a medication to combat the mania, and then
medication to combat any side effects caused by the other medications. Patients who exhibit a
higher rate of serotonin 5 HT binding prior to starting medication had a higher chance of recurring
episodes, even while taking medication, than did those who had a lower rate of serotonin 5 HT
binding prior to medication (Parsey 2013). Lithium was a drug that works within the nervous
system to strengthen the neural connections between cells to increase cell signaling therefore
limiting the frequency and intensity of manic depressive episodes. Lithium was anticipated to have
success rates as high as 70% 80% but studies now indicate that Lithium really has a success rate of
approximately 40% and comes with a plethora of side effects (Surgeon General Report for Mental
Health). Modafinil is an alpha adrenergic agonist and directly stimulated the receptors within the
brain. The reuptake of noradrenaline by the noradrenergic is decreased and increase excitatory
glutamatergic transmission is increased. This reduces local GABAergic transmission, thereby

The Challenges Of Canada s Health Care System
There are 196 countries with healthcare systems across the world... Canada s healthcare system
is ranked 30th overall. Most critics keep health care related debates to the small scope of Canada
and the USA. However, neither the USA nor Canada s systems are ranked in the top 25 for
overall efficiency (The Patient Factor). In order for Canada s healthcare system to improve, there
must be changes made in regards to major problems; financial aspects, timely access, and the doctor
shortages. Evidence shows that the best healthcare systems in the world are founded on a strong
primary care system (TheStar.com). Perhaps Canada can learn from these countries that are ranked
higher, and provide more efficient care to Canadian citizens. Magnifying... Show more content on

This survey included over 3,700 physicians in eight different countries. The results showed
Canada continuously had the lowest overall adaption rate; early adaption of technologies is a key
element to sustaining healthcare systems (Williams). Canada is a slow adapter of innovative
technologies that could enhance the quality of health care services and improve the health and
quality of life of Canadians (Daniel Muzyka). There is plenty of evidence to validate that many
Canadians are incorrect in believing that they have the best healthcare system in the world .
Spending on healthcare in Canada continues to outpace the government spending program in
growth and is limiting public investments in other areas that would make for an overall more
effective society (Daniel Muzyka). Canada is the 10th highest spender, spending an average of
$2,600 per Canadian per year. Recent studies by Brett Skinner have looked at trends in the annual
growth rates for provincial healthcare expenditures and total government revenue. He found that if
recent trends persist, provincial government spending on healthcare will consume more than half
of total revenues from all sources in six of 10 provinces by the year 2020 (Neil Stuart). Due to the
over spending factor and tight budgets, several healthcare institutions in Canada are cutting back
costs any way they can. Specifically, in

Promiscuity
Promiscuity. What is your reaction to the word? We all know a promiscuous girl. We all look
down on her in our own ways. Sometimes she is backstabbed by friends and sometimes she is
openly scorned by others. What we do not realise, is she is not the only one, or maybe we do not
want to accept it. Research positions us at first place on the podium of promiscuity. Why are we
such a promiscuous nation? What risks are we bringing upon ourselves? Are we all nomads in
the land of sexuality? Perhaps it is our loose lifestyles, or when growing up we are faced with
confusion. A young New Zealander s lifestyle of drinking, partying, and in some cases, drugs is the
perfect precedent for a night likely to be regretted, not remembered, or resulting... Show more

This may result in a decrease of promiscuity, as the new generations self esteems will be
healthier. For young people I believe the confusion they are faced with when growing up may
play a part. Maybe the transition into adulthood makes young people think they need to start
being sexually active. They may become desperate to feel belonging or companionship. These
feelings could be likened to those of Holden Caulfield the main character and protagonist of The
Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. Throughout the novel Holden is on a seesaw between being
a child and being an adult. One of the issues that surface for him is that of having sex. At one
point in the novel Holden is faced with the opportunity I kept hoping she d be good looking. I
didn t care too much, though. I sort of just wanted to get it over with. This shows Holden s
feelings towards sex. Under these circumstances sex has no signs of intimacy or fun. It is almost
as if sex is an opportunity for him to grow up . Maybe it is simply a rite of passage. It worries me
that this may be the reason for some young people being promiscuous. If they think becoming an
adult means they must do this they are obviously not mature enough yet and still need time to
grow up. The statistics produced by a condom maker labels New Zealand women as the most
promiscuous in the world with an average of 20.3 sexual partners. New Zealand men were not at
the top like the women but still above average with

The Purpose Of The Fourteenth Amendment
The purpose that brought the Fourteenth Amendment into being was equality before the law, and
equality, not separation, was written into the law. A state and its capabilities all come from within
itself; therefore, what brings a nation forth is its ability to unite for a cause and to consistently
keep the members of its nation steadfast in its belief. The Fourteenth Amendment was ratified not
only to guarantee equal protection of the laws , but to also guarantee a more prosperous country
in which its members are not distinguished based on gender, race, culture, ethnicity or religion.
Consequently, every citizen is given a set of rights and the people are reassured that these rights
define a government by the people for the people , but during the 1800s, the law was not just nor
equal. The law of the land seems to be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

or situation; if the people want to live in a just, fair society, they must adhere by the laws. Human
rights are not only given to a specific group of people and denied by another; therefore, it applies to
one and all. Once this imperative amendment was put into action, it was revolutionary and had a
substantial butterfly effect. Women attempted to use the amendment to their advantage in the fight
for women s suffrage and so did African Americans; although neither group received their voting
rights until the 15th and 19th Amendment, the 14th amendment still

The Creation, Death And Rebirth Of The Universe, And The...
There are many myths across the cultures that depict how people believe they were created. Two
myths that discuss creation cycles are The Creation, Death, and Rebirth of the Universe and The
Creation Cycle . In The Creation, Death, and Rebirth of the Universe , the Norse gods believe that
there is a creation, death, and rebirth tales to how the people have evolved through time. In The
Creation Cycle the Aztecs did not have original myths to support their evolution. The Aztecs would
conform and adapt others myths and incorporate them into their own culture and add to them. In
both myths it is discussed how gods are more like human beings and held accountable for their
behavior. They also both discuss the evolution through the times as humans and gods progress into
what is mankind today. The Norse gods and people believe that they first evolved from the remains
of the giant Ymir. In the beginning, nothing existed but Ginnungagap, an open void ( The Creation,
Death, and Rebirth of the Universe461). Ymir evolved from the ice that had melted from the foam
that had frozen earlier in time. Ymir was thought to be evil and kept producing offspring from the
sweat of his underarms. The God Buri came to existence by Audhumla licking a salty block of ice
and he emerged ( The Creation, Death, and Rebirth of the Universe 461). Buri had three sons Odin,
Vili, and Ve who grew concerned that the Giants were becoming more populated than the Aesir
(Einherjar, 2016). The

the injured athlete, and the coach can hinder the recovery and possibly cause long term issues.
Thus communication is paramount if the athlete wishes to return to the field of play in peak

If the injured person is difficult to work with, or shows little to no drive to take the rehabilitation
seriously, the team will struggle. To help gain compliance, the team must keep the patient informed.
This applies to the overall course of the rehabilitation, along with the expectations and any changes
that may take place to better help the patient on the road to recovery. Individualization stands with
the fact that each person is different, meaning that every program for recovery will be at least,
slightly different. Each person s physiological and chemical difference mean that two patients may
have similar injuries, yet they have vastly different recovery programs. S brings the principle of
specific sequencing which states that a recovery or rehabilitation plan shall have a specific
sequence of events that are predetermined by the team to ensure the best outcome from the
program. Intensity is the next principle which stresses that a therapeutic exercise should challenge
the patient as well as the injured area, but not to the point where the exercise would cause
aggravation. Knowing when to make the exercises more of less intense is based on the amount of
communication that happens between the team and the

Wildfire On Invertebrate Community
I have been an avid outdoorsman for as long as I can remember. I grew up hiking the
Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania and fly fishing on some great trout waters. I was fortunate
enough to spend my college years in Colorado, where I continued to fish incredible rivers. And,
even if I were not to catch anything at all, I would still spend the day in some of the most serene
environments that I had ever seen. My passion to obtain a Master s degree and eventually a
doctorate arises from my love of the outdoors and my desire to contribute meaningfully to
protecting the environment for the enjoyment of future generations.
While at Colorado College, I studied German Language and Culture and minored in Philosophy.

Eric Larson, we have identified a topic that will fit into these broader research interests. I will
develop a project to better understand the links between laboratory behavior and field function of
an invasive species, the rusty crayfish. I have communicated with Dr. Larson via phone and
email over the last several months and have discussed the possibility of collaborating with an
incoming doctoral candidate. Dr. Larson has submitted an NSF proposal that would investigate
population crashes of this same invasive crayfish and, if funded, would mean the selected student
will be working in the same system that I plan on working in. I believe that being able to work
together and having this vertical connection within the lab will be beneficial to both of us, and that
we will be able to produce meaningful publications as a result. I am excited to help determine
whether or not laboratory behaviors of an invasive species can tell us anything about their field
function, including how they fit into the aquatic food web and whether controlled lab experiments
might be a useful tool in determining how we manage invasive

  • 2. Cultural Perspectives On American Expansionist, Colonial... As Yehuda Berg said, words have energy and power with the ability to help...[and] to harm. Expanding upon his reflection to see varying social perspectives on American expansionist, colonial and slave society contexts, one notes that officials of European descent including Meriwether Lewis, William Clark and John Eliot converted white words and ideas into literal and figurative terms that they believed Native Americans mutually understood to persuade tribal leaders to adopt white mores. Accordingly, some Native Americans responded to these jabs of white coercion through outright resistance while others re enacted white behaviors to receive preferential treatment from white leaders and gain social influence that had the potential to undermine white hegemony. Building off of these indigenous efforts to reclaim lost territory, many Southern black slaves adapted to the ongoing tolerance of church ministries and loopholes in slave masters restrictions to slightly advance African beliefs atop Christianity and syncretically empower black rituals. While white expansionists engaged in brief, unbalanced negotiations to judge and then exploit Native Americans, certain indigenous people broke out of the ongoing Eurocentric decorum of noble savagery with colonial authorities to pursue sociopolitical agency and many black slaves interbred Christian and African beliefs to fashion their own religious subculture over time. Thus, throughout these cases, both white and non white figures of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Firstly, working conditions where often poor and the majority of working class Australians had little to no spare time due to being devoted to their jobs. Many men felt entitled to be the strength of a household and provide for the family, and often women and children had to seek employment because most families needed more income flow, however women mostly tended to their household duties . Working conditions where poor and jobs consisted of long hours of labor and little pay, however 4 weeks annual leave was granted just as it is today. Surface Book is outstanding from different surfaces mostly because of its separable Keyboard, which is made of a dynamic fulcrum hinge. The keyboard carries a second battery other than the one inside the main screen to increase the battery s life. Opposite to Surface Pro that is a tablet, Surface Book is the first ever Microsoft laptop. (Microsoft.com) Microsoft announced the creation of Surface Book on October 6, 2015, at Windows 10 Devices Event. Panos Panay, the vice president of Surface Computing, announced this device as being a laptop that is going to compete with the with the MacBook Pro of the Apple Corporation. They also announced that Surface Book is compatible with the Surface Pen, and it has all of the features of the Microsoft Surface alongside with new and fascinating features. (Microsoft.com) Surface Book, according to Microsoft.com, consists of a screen with a 13.5 inches (34 cm), and 3000x2000 resolution that allows this device work like other laptops. It also has a detachable keyboard that allows Surface Book to function both as laptop and a tablet. To reach this purpose, Microsoft constructed the hinge by nickel titanium. Nickel titanium contracts to electrical current, therefore pressing the release button can separate the hinge from the keyboard. This hinge is known as the dynamic fulcrum hinge. • 5. Edna s Impression Management In The Awakening As advised by the doctor, Leonce decides to take a hands off approach when dealing with Edna. With this newly found freedom from her husband, Edna was able to do things such as get a smaller home to call hers. Because Edna did not care about the impression the new house gave to the community, Leonce had to take care of the situation and save face (Chopin 127) in order to keep up with the impression management of the family. He did not want others to think that there was something wrong with their marriage. Edna was able to express her peculiarity because Leonce could not control her actions. It was with this newly found freedom that Edna s character was able to grow and develop a sense of who she really is along with her impression management... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edna cannot live the life she wishes to with the positions and statuses she must fill in her society. Peggy Skaggs believes that it is impossible for Edna to be a complete person with her role of being a wife and mother as defined by her society. Allowing herself the choice, Edna decides to be the artist whose courageous soul ... dares and defies (Chopin 156). Without a thought in mind, she chooses her final path to be the courageous one that matches up with her desires and quests towards freedom. Because Edna does not care about the societal rules, she stops worrying about her own impression management. Kate Chopin demonstrates Edna as being willing to give her life for her children but unwilling to give herself up for them (64). In other words, Edna would give everything for her children, except for the vital aspects of herself. This would be her freedom and individuality. So, even though the suicide was not in the best interest of her children, Edna still follows through in order to achieve the essentials leaving behind the impression of being unattached from society and the societal structures set up within the ... • 6. Traditional American Family Essay When the idea of a family life first began, the man was supposed to be the sole breadwinner while the wife stayed home to cook or clean or take care of the children. A traditional American family used to be a mom and a dad, with a few kids. However, that white picket fence lifestyle has become almost abnormal now. Ever since the choices of divorce, homosexuality, even role reversal have been offered to families things have never been quite the same. In the early days, divorce was an extremely shameful thing. The concept of for better or worse truly held it s meaning. A man and a woman would almost never split up, no matter how bad things got. Today, divorce papers can be mailed and signed with virtually no hassle, making the ending of a marriage... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A century ago, homosexuality would have been a taboo thought. A familywas made of a man and his wife, with their natural children. With the choice of homosexuality being introduced, people can now marry whoever they want to and have kids from a surrogate, from adoption, or even from artificial insemination has greatly expanded familial bounds. A century ago, the man of the household was the one that brought home the bacon. His wife would be waiting for him at home with a cold beer or other beverage and have his favorite show on if a radio or TV was available. Fast forward a century and stay at home dads are becoming more common. Single parents are almost normal to see, and the woman of the house is now allowed to earn a paycheck. By giving families a choice in how they want to go about daily life has greatly changed how families work now. As Pew Research Center states it, Parents today are raising their children against a backdrop of increasingly diverse and, for many, constantly evolving family forms. By contrast, in 1960, the height of the post World War II baby boom, there was one dominant family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Marxist Reading Of Dracula In 1897 Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, a novel that would permanently alter society s perception of the modern vampire. The story is based loosely on the actions of a violent, bloodthirsty prince named Vlad the Impaler who ruled over Romania in the 1400 s. The story of Dracula closely mimics the way in which society functions in response to power. The Marxist theory can be applied to the novel, displaying society s response to upper class power. The novel exemplifies the effects of unequal social classes, abuse of power and manipulation of the proletariat. Evidently, the Marxist theory allows the reader to see the socio economic impact of their leaders as displayed in literature. It provides the reader with insight regarding the value of people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He uses his social status and wealth as a way to achieve his malicious goal of transforming London into a vampire hub. Dracula buys large amounts of real estate, gold and other materialistic items as a way to get closer to his goal. In the novel, Dracula uses a fake name to buy multiple estates so that he can have lairs all over Europe. According to the Marxist theory, the upper class is more inclined to use exploitation as a means to move forward. Dracula uses people as pawns for his own personal gain. In chapter two, Dracula says, I have been so long master that I would be master still, or at least that none other should be master of me (Stoker, 27). Clearly, Dracula acknowledges his own power. He refuses to be under the command of another. Evidently, Dracula is confident in his own abilities. He believes that because of his title, he will easily be able to get his way. When Dracula speaks of London, the audience sees his longing and desperation to have power there. On page 27 he says, Well, I know that, did I move and speak in your London, none there are who would not know me for a stranger. That is not enough for me. Here I am noble (Stoker, 27). Dracula feels the need to exercise control everywhere he goes. In today s society, it is not uncommon to see a person in a position of power, abuse their privileges. For example, in 1975 Indira Gandhi got in trouble for committing election fraud. This is a prime example of someone believing it is acceptable for them to alter the rules for their own personal gain. Marxism in literature displays the importance of holding those in power accountable for their actions. Another example of Dracula s abuse of power is seen when he moves from Romania to London. Dracula is obsessed with the need to attain more power, therefore he is not satisfied with only Romanian people. He believes he can obtain more victims in London. Furthermore, he takes what ... It consisted of nationalities based on Italian, German, French, African, Spanish, Bohemian, Russian, Scandinavian, Jewish, and Chinese. He then began to explain how each nationality treated tenement life. For example, The Irishman does not naturally take kindly to tenement life, though with characteristic versatility he adapts him to its conditions at once. He speaks about how mostly Italians did their jobs without no complaints and put up with those who needed it. With that being said, a lot of the time Italians were then being taken advantage of for their labor and not speaking an ounce of English made things even more difficult for them. Many worked in ash barrels or even in dumpsters. They occasionally also gambled and police would have to get involved due to violence such as death. Overall, despite being somewhat like slaves by landlords and the rich and trying to have fun when possible, Italians were known as gay, light hearted and inoffensive as a child. Another important factor to marketing a beer is how it is bottled. There are many schools of thought when it comes to putting beer into a glass bottle or aluminum can. Economics plays an immense role when the decision has to be made whether to can or bottle beer. There appears to be a stigma associated with canned beer because consumers tend to think canned beer has a metallic aftertaste. Today s advances in technology, however, have put that stigma to rest by lining the aluminum can with a water based polymer. Furthermore, beer has many enemies, which impacts the bottling decision. Two of the greatest foes are oxygen and sunlight. Bottles tend to be expensive and are generally clear. When they are not filled to the top, oxygenation will occur and ruin a good beer. Sunlight will alter the compounds of hops while oxygen will quickly make a beer stale. Bottled beer also requires more labeling and extra packaging, which need to be disposed thus making them a not very environmentally friendly product and also makes it more expensive to produce. GVBC is of the opinion a good craft beer should be canned. The benefits of using cans as opposed to bottles when bottling beer are numerous: Canned beer has very little headspace and makes it harder for beer to become stale Sunlight cannot get through aluminum Cans are lightweight thus reducing shipping costs Cans do not break making it easier to take beer on outings Bottling decisions are a ... The main church organisation I will be exploring is Salvation Army. Around 100,000 Australians will be homeless tonight. Homelessness can affect anyone you know your neighbour, your friends even your family. There is a wide diversity of people turning to us for help for many different reasons. Broken marriages, disabilities, domestic violence, mental illness or breakdown may all contribute. • 12. Price Ceiling Bill In light of Congress passing of the price ceiling bill, there has been a large amount of speculation and fear mongering enforced by the media and opposing views. While the prospect of a price ceiling is rather worrying, we are here to dispel any fears you may have. Yes, in some cases a price ceiling may create a shortage of gasoline in the community, but with where our price shall be set, and with our distribution of resources, we believe this issue can be resolved rather easily and with minimum negative impact. Considering the effects of a price ceiling on the free market, the equilibrium of supply and demand, or the set price decided on the natural process, is altered depending on whether the price ceiling is above or below the equilibrium... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... High priority workers and commuters still get a portion of gas sufficient to sustain needs, and finally, long distance drivers, I.E travelers, will get no privileges over other citizens. Reading this may be disheartening to most, but I assure you that this is in a state of severe shortages, and as I mentioned before, our price ceiling will much further above the equilibrium line, therefore the chances of that being an issue are rather low. So to be clear on this, our price will be set at $2.80 maximum per gallon. That way, the free market can continue to function, and will relieve a lot of stress on the average consumer s wallet in reference to buying gasoline. And with the price of oil continuously declining, and 60 90 years of fuel reserves at the current rate of consumption, gas prices shouldn t ever peak above that with reasonable pricing in mind. • 13. Capitalism And Capitalization Introduction War is inherent in the development of capitalism as well as a decisive phenomenon in the transformation of the history of humanity in its different stages: from the accumulation originating, going through the industrial revolution and the imperialist period, until now, in the era of globalization, and their interactions are multiple and varied. At present, these have been reinforced under the apothegm of politics as prolongation of the war , unlike the war as an extension of the politics , since it is a society sustained in that one. As a starting point, it can be affirmed that the wars allowed to sit the basis for the construction of capitalism around the world, because they pushed the shaping of the world market subjecting all peoples to the dictation of the industrial capital cycle. However, the wars of civilization continue until the present: primitive accumulation permanent , so that the armament is fundamental to reproduce this production mode, or rather, destruction. Understanding the above is essential when today the forces productive have been disrupted in forces of destruction from its contradiction with the social relations of production: while this reality shows the economic (the rate of profit) and sociocultural borders (individualism, patriotism) of modern society, also enables the expansion of relations based on monopoly. Therefore, in these circumstances, it is essential to fuel war and armament as engines of capitalist progress, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Effects Of Blended Family On Modern Society The number of blended families is increasing in modern society. In fact, over 100 million Americans are members of a blended family (Kreider). A blended family is a family consisting of two parents that bring together children from their current and previous marriages. One or both parents then become a stepparent to the children of their significant other. As this familydynamic increases in modern society, many doubts arise regarding the functionality and longevity of this family structure. Often times, people enter this new relationship with perceptions from the media or society that lead them to believe this type of family is unable to endure. While it is true that a blended family often times has challenging obstacles to overcome, it does not mean that establishing a functional blended family is impossible. These families learn to work together and get past these difficult barriers. From there, they move forward to learn not only how to function as a family, but how to be prosperous and happy. Because of their utmost devotion to each other, members of a blended family are able to adjust to new situations and be just as functional as a traditional nuclear family. They even have the potential to prosper more so than a traditional nuclear family. I will prove this by examining relationships between children and stepparents, stepsiblings, and the positive benefits that I have experienced being a member of a blended family myself. • 15. Theme Of Suspense In Hunters In The Snow Like reality, fiction taps into truths of the self and relationships with others that are often without recognition, due to refusal of acknowledgment of personal faults. In his story, Hunters in the Snow, Tobias Wolff examines the power structure in the relationship of three primary characters along with the power of their hunting rifles. Through the literary element of potential chance, suspense is formed, an element of fictionthat uses sympathetic characterization in order to create an aspect of anxiety. He does so with the use of the literary mechanisms such as surprise, mystery, suspense, and the exploration with every possible type of conflict. For example, the man on the seventeenth story window ledge in another image, can be written about for commercial or literary, however, the literary story would focus less upon whether the man will jump than on the psychological factors and life experiences that brought him to the ledge in the first place. The alternative plot structure allows for hints to a secret that Frank has told Kenny previously and Wolff reveals only as your jailbait, but later, Frank explains to Tub while Kenny is hurt and freezing in the car. At the introduction, this is a widely unexpected turn out, since this is a literary story, it does not matter whether Kenny arrives at the hospital, for the plot has concluded with the characterization. The story ends without directions to the hospital while Kenny freezes to death repeating his mantra that Frank told him to say, I m going to the hospital. The incredible depth of characterization allows the reader to emote on multiple levels for many different scenarios as Frank pulls into a restaurant to eat and discuss things like trust, guilt, and a personal clandestine with Tub, all while leaving Kenny in the bed of the truck, breaking all of the virtues they began with ... • 16. Questions On Criminal Procedure Code 4.12 Section 433 Criminal Procedure Code Power to commute sentence Referring, to pardon it means to forgive a person of his offence. The word pardon has been defined as an act of grace, advancing from the power assigned with the execution of the law, which excuses the individual on whom it is conferred upon, from the punishment the law imposes for a crime he has committed. It affects both the punishment proposed for the offence and the guilt of the offender. In other words, grant of pardon wipes off the guilt of accused and brings him to the original position of innocence as if he had never committed the offence for which he was charged. Under Indian law, the President of India and the Governors of States have been given the power to grant pardons, reprieves, respites or remissions of punishment or to suspend, remit or commute the sentence. The law governing grant of pardon is contained in Articles 72 and 161 of the Constitution. 4.12(1) Granting of pardon may be of two kinds. Absolute Absolute pardon may mark out the guilt itself. It does not lead to an acquittal unless the Court directs. The accused is discharged permanently without demanding any condition to be fulfilled. Conditional In conditional pardon, the offender is let off subject to certain conditions. The violation of these conditions will lead to renewal of his sentence and he shall be exposed to the unexhausted portion of his punishment. 4.12(2) Jurisprudence of Granting pardon The philosophy ... • 17. Decisional Diction In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken Poetry Essay The Road Not Taken In the narrative poem, The Road Not Taken, Robert Frost utilize literary devices to magnified the concept of decisional dilemma and present a message on paths chosen in the course of life. Robert Frost implemented strategic diction, sensory imagery, and figurative language that enhances the content portrayed in the poem itself. The poem focus around the turmoil of the two roads the speaker has to choose one being a commonly taken path and the other one isn t commonly taken is filled with discomfort and unexpected nature . The speaker eventually selected the route of uncertainty, yet it develops the notion of individuality that opposes the influence of socially uniformed opinion. Robert Frost incorporates specific usage of dictions throughout the poem to enhance meaning, while exerting his attitude in the context of the literature. The term word diverge projects the image that the road is separated with the results differ based on the route the speaker chooses. The speaker responds with I could not travel both in line 2 of the poem. The term not in this case elaborates on the fact that the speaker is unable to foresee the outcome of both route. A significant component on why the speaker is apprehensive on deciding which road he will ultimately take. Robert Frost incorporates an assonance rhythm in each of his stanza with the last words of the first, third, and fourth lines having the same ending syllable, as well as second and fourth line respectively. The usage of an assonance in this poem represents the movement of each step that the speaker takes as he progressively walk in the path of life he chooses. Smerdyakov embodies the lack of empathy and love, the contemptibility of false intelligence, and the dangers of mindless atheism. Right from the beginning, it s clear that Smerdkyakov is not a likable character. He claims to want the truth, but he can t handle the disappointing nature of the truth. A Brief Note On Unemployment And Minimum Wage Essay Unemployment and Minimum Wage Both the microeconomics and the macroeconomics theories dictate that an increase in the minimum wage will directly impact the rate of unemployment by shooting upwards. As of the moment, there is a heated debate on whether the Congress should pass a bill that seeks to increase United States minimum wage. The consequent change will eventually have both positive as well as negative impacts on various economical aspects particularly unemployment. As for this paper, the focus will be narrowed down to examining the link between minimum wage and unemployment rates across states and also highlighting the current state of unemployment in both Los Angeles and Seattle. In reference to microeconomic theory, the bare minimum wage is considered the price level on top of the equilibrium that is set by the demand and supply curve. A slight increase in the minimum wage greatly impacts the quantity of workers supplied in the economy by significantly increasing due to the initial heave of interest to enroll in the workforce. Similarly, there will be a decline in the quantity of demanded labor given that the marginal labor cost will directly increase as the minimum wage increases. As a result of the increased quantity supplied and the subsequent decrease in demanded quantity, there will be a creation of labor surplus in the workforce, culminating in the increased rates of unemployment. • 37. Chief Seattle Essay Chief Seattle When stories are told about the American Indian it is usually the Indians that are looked upon as the heathens. They are portrayed as savages who spent most of their time raiding wagon trains and scalping the white settlers just for fun. The media has lead us to believe that the American government was forced to take the land from these savage Indians. We should put the blame where it belongs, on the U.S. Government who lied, cheated, and stole from the Indians forcing many Indian leaders to surrender not only their tribes but their nation in order to save the lives of their people. Among the Indians of the Pacific Northwest, perhaps the best known may be Chief Seattle. Chief Seattle (more correctly known as Seathl or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seattle moved to Port Madison Reservation and lived in Old Man House, just across from Bainbridge Island; This was a community house measuring some 60 x 900 feet easily the largest Indian made wooden structure in the region . (4) When settlers first came to America they were meet by Indians. Once the settlers were able to make it on there own, they no longer needed Indian help. Then they began to try to change the ways and beliefs of the Indian. One of the aspects that the settlers spent much time on trying to change of the Indians was their religion. Influenced by missionaries, Seattle decided to convert to Christianity and was later baptized in 1838 by Father Modest Demers, at which time Seattle adopted the Christian name Noah . One of the major differences I noticed while researching information about Chief Seattle is that in Catholicism there is one book, I m sure that we all have heard of it, the Bible. In Catholicism it is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is made up of scriptures before the coming of Jesus. The New Testament is made up of scriptures written up after the coming of Jesus. These scriptures are written up pretty straight forward and they are read year in and year out. There is no room for individual interpretation by the reader, it is set in structure. In the Indian religion everything is told through myths and legends. Because of this everything is passed down from chief to chief ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. My Catholic Church Experience Paper On April 11th, 2017, I attended mass in the Blessed Edmund Chapel. Unlike other weekday masses, this one was scheduled at 7 AM because of it being Holy Tuesday. Never having been to a Catholic mass before, all of this was a new experience. Growing up in a non denominational Christian household, I did not have a clue what to expect. From this experience, I was able to gain insight into the Catholic practices and how they conduct their masses. It also helped to expand on the teachings we discussed in religion class. When you first walked into the Blessed Edmund Rice Chapel, you see chairs lined up in front of the altar and podium. Underneath a majority of the chairs, lay a bible to follow along with the sermon of the mass. In front, in front of the altar, there were two candles that a Brother lit during the mass. Even though the chapel being small might seem like a disadvantage, I thought that this feature offered a more personal and close experience. Up on the altar, in between the candles, there was a wooden figure of Jesus on the cross. It was in a way similar to churches I have attended before, except there was no altar or podium, and was... It took a shorter period of time than I was used to and involved less singing. Attending a Catholic mass definitely helped me to better understand the practices of Catholics. It taught me more about scripture and also provided me with an insight to a different religion s customs. From this experience I will take away a new knowledge of the religion the college I attend represents. It also showed me what a Brother exactly was and what their duties ... He wants us not only to enjoy His precious resources and satisfy our wants and needs, but also to increase and improve what we have and not decrease or diminish it. God entrusted us with everything we have and He can call us to account at any time, that is why we have to be well prepared for this call. God gives humans the privilege to rule this world and to use His resources wisely and purposefully. In Genesis 1:26, God said, Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground (Genesis 1:26, NIV). • 40. Analysis Of The Book Night By Elie Wiesel McBride 1 Brandy McBride McAndrew ELA August 6, 2017 Night In the book Night by Elie Wiesel there are many instances where his use of imagery helps establish tone and purpose. For example Elie Wiesel used fire (sight) to represent just that. The fire helps prove that the tone is serious and mature. In no way did Wiesel try to lighten up the story about the concentration camps or the Nazis. His use of fire also helps show his purpose. Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times scaled. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However he then stated Where is he? This is where hanging here from this gallows... that night the soup tasted like corpses (page 65). Here Wiesel had two very different opinions on the soup. The way he described the soup in the first quote showed he was hungry and happy although once he realized the truth everything changed. He soon found the soup to be repulsing and he wanted nothing to do with it. For example when he says the soup tasted like corpses he means that they did not feel the satisfaction of eating because they just witnessed a horrific occurrence. This helps with tone because the reader can tell how quickly his tone went downhill. Last but not least is the sense of smell which Wiesel used throughout the book by explaining the burners and crematories. In front of us, those flames. In the air, the smell of burning flesh. It must have been around midnight. We had arrived. In Birkenau (28, Wiesel). Along with the smell Wiesel had witnessed and heard awful events that took place in the burners. Over there. Do you see the chimney over there? Do you see it? And the flames, do you see them? (Yes, we saw the flames.) Over there, that s where they will take you. Over there will be your grave. You still don t understand? You sons of bitches. Don t you understand anything? You will be burned! Burned into a cinder! Turned to ashes (30 31, Wiesel). This shows a different tone. It was one of the first social platforms that aimed to connect people all over the world together. FB has been successful in establishing its competitive advantage relying in its network effect and its ability to catch up with the competition. As depicted on Figure II, FB has strength points that include: its long history and its access to global markets over a short period of time, that enabled it to lock in a wide base of users that find it too costly to switch to other networks that don t provide a strong motivation for switching especially that FB has a strong ability for imitation and integration that led to a growing advertising revenue from different advertisers that find FB to be a great source of data that they can use for segmentation and targeting. FB weakness points are: its high dependency on advertising revenue, its high dependency on games applications revenue and concentration of ownership in the hands of its founder, Mr. Zuckerberg, that seems to be so innovative and successful. Sometimes she is backstabbed by friends and sometimes she is openly scorned by others. What we do not realise, is she is not the only one, or maybe we do not want to accept it. Research positions us at first place on the podium of promiscuity. Why are we such a promiscuous nation? What risks are we bringing upon ourselves? Are we all nomads in the land of sexuality? For young people I believe the confusion they are faced with when growing up may play a part. Maybe the transition into adulthood makes young people think they need to start being sexually active. They may become desperate to feel belonging or companionship. These feelings could be likened to those of Holden Caulfield the main character and protagonist of The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. Throughout the novel Holden is on a seesaw between being a child and being an adult. One of the issues that surface for him is that of having sex. At one point in the novel Holden is faced with the opportunity I kept hoping she d be good looking. I didn t care too much, though. I sort of just wanted to get it over with. This shows Holden s feelings towards sex. Under these circumstances sex has no signs of intimacy or fun. It is almost as if sex is an opportunity for him to grow up . Maybe it is simply a rite of passage. It worries me that this may be the reason for some young people being promiscuous. If they think becoming an adult means they must do this they are obviously not mature enough yet and still need time to grow up. The statistics produced by a condom maker labels New Zealand women as the most promiscuous in the world with an average of 20.3 sexual partners.
