Competition between Dr. Who and Supernatural
In choosing between aliens and supernatural beings, the decision might be too difficult to make.
But when it comes to choosing between Doctor Who and Supernatural , Supernatural is the
better of the two. While both shows are good, Supernatural has more complexity of characters, a
better soundtrack, and presents conflicts better. To evaluate whether a show is worth losing my
social life, I like to take into consideration some factors of the show. The first and most important
criterion is the characters. A show s characters are supposed to be complex, not one dimensional
characters that only serve one purpose. Another criterion is if the soundtrack heightens the show s
enjoyability. A show needs to have a good soundtrack to enhance the show. The last criterion I use
to evaluate a tv series is the way the conflicts are presented. The conflicts are supposed to be
connected but not be repetitive; if they are too alike then the viewer will get bored. In Supernatural,
the characters are better developed than in Doctor Who; for example, Jo Harvelle. While in most
shows a girl like Jo would have been portrayed like someone who only thinks about boys, fashion,
and other girly things, Supernatural does not portrayed her like that. In Supernatural , Jo was first
introduced as a rebellious teenager who is always arguing with her mom, Ellen Harvelle, about her
future. But unlike other shows, Ellen and Jo do not argue about whom Jo marries; they argue about
whether Jo

To A Mouse Analysis
The best laid schemes o mice an men, gang aft agley. Robert Burns states this in his famous
poem To a Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by
John Steinbeck. The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent
at first, but by the end of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie
and George who are migrant workers in the 1930 s during the great depression. They move from
ranch to ranch with each other, which sets them apart from most because they have each other,
while the majority of migrant workers travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and
responsible, and takes care of Lennie. Lennie is a very large, strong, man, but he is very simple
minded, as he is a little mentally challenged. Although Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice
man and has the mentality of a child. The novel focuses on the dream that George and Lennie have
of getting their own farm. This is a very important component of the novel, because presumably, it
is the idea of George and Lennie s dream that inspired the novel s title. Steinbeck conveys the
message of Robert Burnspoem by showing how easily a dream or plan can be shattered.
George and Lennie talk about their dream of owning a farm near the beginning of the novel, so we
can assume that they have had this dream for quite some time, especially from the detail George
includes when telling Lennie about it. They want to have their

Role Of Women And Motherhood Through Modern Literature
The Role of Women and Motherhood through Modern Literature
Gertrude Stein s story The Gentle Lena in Three Lives reaffirms the expectations of women set
out by society, yet the main character Lena challenges the role of women in the workforce,
marriage, and motherhood. Lena s gentle, sweet, patient and servant like behavior affirms the way
society saw women. Women had no voice as to what to expect from their lives and for many their
greatest aspiration was to be a mother. Lena s life just like the lives of many other women were
designed and controlled by someone else and thus many women live in a bubble when it came to
the aspects of their lives. In early 20th century society, women were seen and not heard. Their lives
revolved around their father and later on their husbands. A womans main duties included cleaning,
cooking, and taking care of the children. Lena s attitude can be best described as passive and
gentle. Lena is also best described as a dreamer who has lost touched with reality, she was always
sort of dreamy and not there (Stein 146). This passive attitude would inhibit Lena from ever being
truly happy. Lena begins her life as very unimportant she was not an important daughter in the
family her passive aggressive attitude makes her the perfect candidate for her controlling aunt to
create a new life for her (Stein 146). Lena seems to understand what is happening in her life but
she doesn t know how to feel about it or what action she should take towards

was not even twenty four hours and the KKK embarked on the attacks once again (117). With
attacks continued on by the KKK other steps were trying to be made in racial equality.
Occurring before the time of the KKK s start of their attacks were the Freedom Rides looking for
racial equality on the transportation services. Raymond Arsenault discusses in his book
Freedom Riders 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice that the Freedom Rides began after the
blacks were forced to give up their bus seat, so that whites could sit, Irene Morgan first
experienced this when she was forced by the driver to remove herself from the seat in 1944 (14).
Arsenault finds that the rides made their way all of the south of the United States going from
Florida to Northern Virginia toward the west in Illinois and through Missouri and heading as
west as Texas and California (220 221). John A. Kirk writes in his article Battle Cry of Freedom:
Little Rock, Arkansas and The Freedom Riders at Fifty that the riders were surged on by the
Congress of Racial Equality(CORE). The riders route was planned to ride from St, Louis, Little
Rock, Shreveport, and finally stopping in New Orleans. They would later leave New Orleans headed

Language Separation in Immigrant Families Essay
Language Separation in Immigrant Families
In America, each family usually has a standard language spoken in the household.
Communication is easy and mothers can talk with their children and they can connect with them.
Some people who have this benefit are unaware that some families do not have this advantage in
their homes. Lee Thomas and Linh Cao understand that some families have language change
through each generation. Cao herself lived in house where her relatives used several different
languages and learned first hand that there are many losses when a family doesn t share a common
language.
Thomas and Cao wrote this article specifically for parents and families that have language

After 1975, she learned to speak, read, and write in Vietnamese. She is now comfortable with
English but still uses Vietnamese. Her siblings learned Vietnamese first and then learned Mandarin
or Hainanese. Now each child uses a different language with each other and their elders. The
purpose of the article is to demonstrate that even families can be separated by language.
To show this point the author s write about Cao s experiences with a language struggle between
family members. This narration gives the reader a close up look at how language works in a
family. Besides using narration she always uses a little cause and effect by sharing the results of
having language separation. She gave three examples of conversational situations in her
household. The languages Vietnamese, Hainanese, Mandarin, and English are used
interchangeably. Looking at the dialogues in the article made the conversation seem broken
because there were four languages being used. The first conversation is between Cao s mom and
one of her siblings, Tung. It has to do with Tung not wanting to eat the large amount of noodles
Mom prepared for him. Then she asks about Tung s homework and he is unable to explain it to
her because they do not share a fluent language between them. In the article this selection was
described as a routinized interactive exchange (Thomas Cao 64). This means that the two of them
were able to have small talk based on things like food. But they

Iago Role In Othello
If there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do you no harm. This African proverb
suggests that only your weakness and inner insecurities can help your enemy to destroy you.
Among all great plays of William Shakespeare the tragedy of Othello the moor of Venice

considered as a domestic tragedywhich is about a black general in the Venetian army (Othello) who
experiences a great fall caused by love, rage, and jealousy. After being Egged by the words of a

Presidential Election Campaign Analysis
Four years have past and it is time for yet another presidential election. Presidential campaigning
for this election started as early as February, approximately 21 months prior to the actual Election
Date. The Republican party had originally 17 candidates, 16 of them dropped out leading Donald J.
Trump to be the Republican Nominee. The fight for the Democratic nomination was neck and neck.
With originally 6 candidates, 5 whom dropped out, lead Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic
Nominee. Alongside the Republican and Democratic nominations we have the Green Party whose
candidate is Jill Stein and Libertarian Party, Gary Johnson.

Donald Trump is talking about how America would be better off if we kept everyone out of it,
not letting anyone from mexico entering by building a wall. Trump thoroughly believes that this
wall is how we will make America great again. There are many people who are for trumps
immigration stance, wanting to send back any illegal immigrants to their country. However what
if being failed to be noted is that building a wall is only regressive. Building this wall with one of
America s closest allies will only put a strain in our relationship with not only Mexico, but the rest
of the world. Trump wants to alienate and attack all Mexicans legal and illegal in the United States,
as opposed to Jill Stein who wants to be able to provide for them. Stein support immigrants rights
and wants to create a welcoming path to citizenship for immigrants.Wanting to put the
discrimination to an end, Stein wants to provide everyone with equal rights and access to health
care. Her platform on Health Care as a Right states, No restrictions based on pre existing illness,
employment, immigration status, age, or any other category. Donald Trump wants to kick people
out of America thinking that is how America becomes better again, but he is wrong. Jill Stein
wants to halt deportations, including the shameful practice of night raids being used to terrorize
refugee families. People come to the United States to seek help. So why should we refuse them

four key characteristics that symbolize Mercutio are bravery, joyfulness, straightforward and last

increasingly distant from his family. At one point in the novel Father realizes he is no longer

Montesquieu s Contributions to the Enlightenment
Many people living in The United States like to think that our founding fathers thought of the basic
construction of our whole government system. They really did not; Charles Louis Secondat, baron
de Montesquieu thought of the system of checks and balances plus the three branches of
government. The whole framework of our Constitutionis based on what Montesquieu thoughtof
during the enlightenment period. The purpose of the three branches is to make it where no one
person or group of people is greater than the rest. Montesquieu wanted to make a government
where the people had a say in what happened and there wasn t a single person in charge. The
system of checks and balances was to reinforce what he was trying to do. Making it where one...

While doing this he published his book Spirit of the Laws trying to explore how different legal
systems worked. Although he was inclined to think humans were exactly the same everywhere he
looked, he knew as a local judicial body that people all over the world are very different. He was
painfully aware of the huge variation in local customs and laws. Although he knew people were
different depending on where there culture and background was from; he knew that every body s
mind could reason. From average republican arguments that laws had to fit to the standards attached
to the kind of government for the people; Montesquieu had to add three arguments.
Firstly he said that the laws and customs of a country will depend upon the more demanding mode
of the country. He felt that trade promoted country reliance s and increased tolerance of different
cultures overall promoting peace. Promoting trade meant promoting the differences in the world to
come together. Although with some countries he thought it might promote competition rather than
coöperation and acceptance. Meaning they might take trading as a rivalry instead of a friendly
gesture.
Secondly, he thought that the environment you lived in could affect your laws for certain things.
For example; he thought that men in the tropics are lazier then men in tempered climates. Thinking
that was why slavery was allowed in the

VIDEO GAMES AND HOSTILITY
Abstract
This experiment assessed the role of videogames and hostility in young Queens College students.
This experiment was based on whether video games make a person hostile towards his or her
surroundings. Showing two different clips from different video games, which described the mood
of young students, did it. The experiment was tested within a classroom in Queens College. The
experiment was divided into two different conditions, condition one, which was hostile games, and
condition two, which was non hostile games. First, the students were shown the clip of this
aggressive video game called, Call of Duty 3 for two minutes and were asked to imagine as if they
were playing. Students were administered the State Hostility Questionnaire and instructed to fill out
ratings before and after the experiment. Secondly, the students were shown the clip of a nonviolent
video game called Pikmin and were asked to do the same as they did with the first video game.
The goal of this experiment was to briefly find out if video games made a person hostile. Since,
video games like Call of Duty 3 contains a lot of violent actions it does make students hostile

Advantage And Dis-Advantage The Sources Of Secondary Data
Advantage and dis advantage the different data sources with examples from the current research:
One of the main critical areas to consider in research is the sources of data. Data sources can be
either: primary or secondary. Surbhi (2016 p.) defines primary data as the data originated for the
first time by the researcher through direct efforts and experience, specifically for the purpose of
addressing the research problem and defines secondary data as second hand information which is
already collected and recorded by any person other than the user for a purpose, not relating to the
current research problem . Surbhi (2016) considers primary data sources as quite expensive, and
requires resources including money and manpower. He also added that secondary data is the data

Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus was bon in 163 B.C. and came from a distinguished family. His

as the majority of large land owners were senators, he alienated himself form them. Gracchus did
not consult the senate regarding this measure and instead brought it before the popular
assembly. His reason for doing so might have been that he believed it would get bogged down in
the senate, as it was a bill directly affecting their finances or perhaps it was because he only had
one year to act and realized the immediate need for reform. However Tiberius had friends in the
senate and it is possible that the bill may have got through if he had followed procedure and if
the senators put the needs of the republic before their own. When the bill was brought before the

pleading with Octavius to withdraw his veto, Tiberius asked the people for the removal of
Octavius as tribune. The people voted in favour of his deposition and elected another tribune who

Essay on The Divine Secrets Of The Ya Ya Sisterhood
Rebecca Wells paints a picture of the various roles that women often must encounter in their lives:
mother, daughter, friend. As said by Charlotte Observer quot; She [Wells] speaks eloquently to
what it means to be a mother, a daughter, a wife and somehow, at last, a person. quot; Wells uses a
captivating style to create a simple plot, memorable symbolism and a reoccurring theme of
friendship. The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood
teaches about the importance of giving and

Compare And Contrast Marketing Strategy
2.2. Marketing strategy Nowadays, the concept of strategy in general and marketing strategy in
particular appears very popularly in modern market. Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary
(2005, p.1516) defines strategy as a plan that is intended to achieve a particular purpose or the
process of planning something or putting a plan into operation in a skilful way . Chandler, A. D.
Jr (1962, p.7) views strategy as the determination of the basic long term goals and objectives of
an enterprise and the adoption of courses of action and the allocation of resources necessary to

Amstrong, G, 2012). The most important point of this strategy is difference . Moreover, that
difference has to be valuable, unique and hard to copy. Differentiation advantage can only be
achieved when a firm is able to obtain from its differentiation a price premium in the market which
exceeds the cost of providing differentiation (Robinson J., 1933). To gain differentiation competitive
advantage, the company will have to invest a big budget to its product research and development.
However, to remain it is another story. Apple is one of the pioneers in implementing this strategy.
Focus: If the company cannot compete with both of the two above strategies, then it should think
about focusing on occupying only one or a few market segments (niche market), with typical
groups of customer. The customers of niche market are usually interested in either low price or
differentiation, but other typical features instead. As these features are not popular, the product
range of the companies following cost and differentiation cannot reach, and the company following
focus strategy can avoid the fierce competition with the other two groups. Roll Royce is a typical

Theme Of Truth And Loyalty In King Lear
In the play King Lear, truth and loyalty are major themes that William Shakespeare seems to focus
on throughout the entire thing. However, truth and loyalty each come at a cost, even if the cost is
different for each person that has these traits. This is seen through the comparison of two of the
characters, Edgar and Cordelia, from beginning to end. They both have the traits of loyalty and truth
, but they differ on where these bring them in the story. Although the audience would undoubtedly
side with classical truthful and loyal characters, Edgar and Cordelia embody the idea that truth and
loyalty always come with a cost―in Lear, truth and loyalty only bring and contribute to problems,
rather than stopping or resolving problems. Starting with Cordelia, her problems with truth and
loyalty begin right from first pages of the first scene of Act в… . It all begins with Lear asking his
daughters to tell him how much they love him. When it is Cordelia s turn to express her feelings,
it isn t what Lear wants to hear but rather the truth. Refusing to hyperbolize her love for her father,
claiming to Return those duties back as are right fit (pg. 4, Shakespeare), she meets the first cost of
being truthful. The cost being her truth then [being] thy dower (pg. 4) as her father feels disgraced
by her truth. This shows truth causing a problem rather than preventing one and coming with a cost.
After this cost Cordelia marries France and moves, but later we learn that she returned in

Negative Side Of Sweatshops

Although sweatshops get a bad name for their conditions, it has been shown and documented that
sweatshops actually benefit people by occupying them with jobs they wouldn t get anywhere else,
as well as help boost the economy. Sweatshops have been known to boost economies in areas
where poverty is an issue. They offer jobs and shelter from the streets. When someone hears the
word sweatshop they think of child labor, Most people are too focused on the negative side of
sweatshops that they can t see the side that benefits and aids the people of its surroundings. In the
grand scheme of things, The good of sweatshops outweighs the bad. Even though the positive side
of sweatshops outweighs the negative side, their is still an opposing opinion that many people

that they should be outlawed. In the article titled Crammed into squalid factories to produce

October 1969. Flood then wrote a letter to Kuhn later that year, saying the leagues players were

right for the players was to be retained by the team. The player had to either negotiate a new

Machiavelli And William Shakespeare s View Of The King
Shakespeare s view of the crown is that of royal incompetence, tyrannical behavior, and years of
discontentment for the people being resided over. Richard II tells the story of a tyrannical king
whose fate is sealed by a loyal noble, which was the typical way politics existed in sixteenth
century England. Regicide and usurpers became a familiar aspect of this story, and the enemy is
the one who has pledged their allegiance to the court. This is just a few of the pitfalls of the
English government seen in this story, that ultimately led to Richard II s demise. In this play, he is
matched against Henry Bolingbroke, a man who had a rightful claim on Richards life, a man who
can only be described as a true Machiavellian. In The Prince, a set... Show more content on

This decision is sure to lead to his ruin because it was known to Bolingbroke and his father
Gaunt, that the king was involved in the murder of Thomas of Woodstock. Shakespeare shows
that a king who is merciful, is not industrious, instead very incompetent for not putting an end to
both parties that know of his treachery. Shakespeare goes on the show that Richard does not
take counsel from those who have the experience and knowledge to further his rule, much like
when he decided to banish Mowbry and Bolingbroke, that decision was done by himself, without
hearing any advice or taking heed of what the consequences might be. Even Gaunt had tried to
help Richard even on his deathbed he says that his life s counsel would not hear but hoped that
his death s sad tale may yet undeaf his ear (II.i pg 401).Machiavelli points out that a prince who
inherits the throne, like Richard, is the most enabled to keep and maintain his power, he who has
connections and had witnessed those who succeeded him, for it is a wise man ought always to
follow the paths beaten by great men, and to imitate those who have been supreme (Machiavelli
28). Richard s arrogance and lack of rationality to heed the wise man s words are predictable, the
steady progression of incompetence proves that England needs a Machiavellian rule, instead of one
who prefers flatterers advice. This damnation of self that is seen

Examples Of Allusions In Romeo And Juliet
In Act 3, there were several examples of allusions made by different characters throughout the
scenes. For example, in scene 1 when Tybalt challenges Romeo to a fight and Romeo backs down,
Mercutio steps in. While talking to Tybalt he says, Good king of cats, nothing but one of your/nine
lives, that I mean to make bold withal, and, as/you shall use me hereafter, dry beat the rest of the
/eight. (3.1.78 81). Mercutiocalls Tybaltthe Good King of Cats , which is an allusion to the
medieval story of Reynard the Fox . The story includes a character named Tibert, (later evolved
to Tybalt) who is a cat that is quite quarrelsome and quick tempered. ( Reynard The Fox , 2007).
In addition, the cat is one of the few characters that supports Reynard in the story. The use of this
allusion helps enhance the development of Tybalt as a character, because it shows some of his
character traits through Mercutio s eyes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reference is made when Juliet says Gallop apace, you fiery footed steeds, /Towards Phoebus

a chariot of the sun, despite Phoebus telling him not to. The chariot goes out of the control and
Phaeton causes the earth to go pitch black. ( Phoebus , 2018; Apollo , 2018). The allusion to
Phoebus and Phaeton is appropriate for the scene because it emphasizes how badly Juliet wants
Romeo to come to her, since he will only come at night when everything is dark, so he can go

William Golding Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis
Charles Dickens, a well known writer, once said Subdue your appetites, my dears, and you ve
conquered human nature. While the thought of not having complete control of my actions and
thoughts means I m doing what s in my nature is uncomfortable, I see the truth and reasoning
behind the statement. The quote can be clearly reflected in the book Lord of the Flies by
William Golding. In the book, a group of boys get stranded on an island with no grownups. As
the boys struggle to survive and stay connected with society, the primitive nature of the boys
begin to appear. In the end, the group has completely disconnected from society and seem to have
reverted to a more tribal like behavior. The boys fall to savagery is described in several ways....

The Kingdoms Of Judah And Israel
The Kingdoms of Judah and Israel from ca. 922 to 586 BCE have a significant impact not only
on the Jewish tradition, but also on the history of Ancient Israel and its development, therefore it
is important to discuss their political structure and influence. To discuss the political structure and
developments of this period modern scholars refer to as the divided monarchy in Ancient Israel,
there must first be a discussion of the political and religious factors that bring about the
unification and later division of the tribes of Israel. In the Hebrew Bible, various tribes are
depicted as encompassing the land of Canaan prior to a time modern scholars refer to as the united
monarchy, which refers to the rule of King Saul, Davidand Solomon.... Show more content on

The inability of the three great powers of the time, Egypt, Assyria and Babylon, to exert influence
over lesser entities such as the philistines greatly contributed to their rise in power. The
culmination of these events lead to a desire and almost obligation of political unification under a
monarch for the tribes of Israel because their internal weakness threatened their very existence.
Nevertheless, contrary to the depiction in the Hebrew Bible, the tribes appear to maintain a
significant amount of autonomy during the monarchy, which leads to the demise of the small
unified monarchy and the development of two split kingdoms, Israel and Judah, that is found in I
Kings 12. This is a result of increased demands and pressure from King Solomon that would have
escalated if his son Rehoboam came to power over the lands of Israel. However, many scholars such
as Beth Alpert Nakhai, attest that hints of disunity between Judah and other tribes were present
through rebellions in David and Solomon s reigns. Therefore, leaders of the various tribes elected to
anoint a new king over their lands that would politically unite them enough to protect them from
outside threats, while still maintaining their relative autonomy over their own tribes, making the
kingdom of Israel a dispersed state with various religious and political centers. On the other hand,
the kingdom of Judah maintained not only unity

The Model Minority Myth Of Asian Americans
The Model Minority Myth
The model minority stereotype suggests that Asian Americans as a group are achieving a higher
level of academic, economic, and social success than the overall American population (Hartlep,
2013; Tran Birman, 2010). This stereotype is very much engrained in the American culture today;
however, such acceptance does not reflect the whole truth.
According to the 2010 U.S. Census, 52.4% of Asian Americans over the age of 25 have a bachelor s
degree or higher, compared to only 29.9% of the total population and 30.3% of non Hispanic White
Americans, signifying higher overall educational attainment for this group (U.S. Census Bureau,
2012). However, this high number failed to consider the differences within the Asian population
with some subgroups having educational levels that are significantly below the national average.
The 2010 U.S. Census also reported that Asian Americans have a significantly higher annual family
income than any other racial groups in the country, though it failed to mention that Asian American
families tend to be larger with more family members that are contributing to that high annual
income number (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012).
How the model minority stereotype can negatively impact the overall educational experience for the
Asian American students is not adequately explored at this time (Museus, 2008). Though some
studies have looked at performance outcomes, such as GPA comparisons between Asian subgroups
and other racial

Love And Gold Analysis
The phrase feminization of migration can be defined with a statistic from Introduction in Global
Woman: In 1946, women were fewer than 3 percent of the Algerians and Moroccans living in
France; by 1990, they were more than 40 percent. (Ehrenreich and Hochschild, 5). This statistic
demonstrates the growth of women migrating over less than 50 years. The amount of women, in
this example, from Algeria and Morocco who moved to France escalated because of the increase in
need of domestic workers. Although both men and women migrate, their work is different. The
traditional stereotype of the womanreflects the occupation she finds as a migrant worker a nanny,

(Hochschild, 20). Ehrenreich and Hochschild explain this as a care deficit. This is the shortage
of care available to a woman in a First World country, whereas women are entering the workforce,
it pulls migrants from the Third World and postcommunist nations; poverty pushes them.
(Ehrenreich and Hochschild, 8). As described in Love and Gold by Hochschild, this care deficit
makes love and care into the new gold (26). Once, gold was traded and sold to others, but the
growing need for domestic help has caused that to be referred to as the new gold. Women in
America, for example, are joining the work force that has been primarily male dominated.
Instead of having to stay at home with the kids, this woman is busy with her work life and must
hire someone to clean her home and to give her children the love she cannot give them as often.
This is explained by Bridget Anderson in Just Another Job? The Commodification of Domestic
Labor in Global Woman. In the essay, Anderson states, employing a cleaner enables middle class
women to take on the feminine role of moral and spiritual support to the family, while freeing her
of the feminine role of servicer, doer of dirty work (105 6). Women in First World countries have
agency of their own lives now, compared to just decades before, causing women from

How Did Henry Ford Impact The World
Henry Ford was born July 30, 1863 in Greenfield, Michigan. He is most famous for manufacturing
the Ford Model T, the first production car ever made. At a young age, Ford demonstrated his
mechanical ability, facility for leadership and learning by trial and error, ultimately developing the
foundation for his career.
Henry Ford learned about steam engines by becoming friends with people who ran them and
eventually, in 1879 he left the farm to become an apprentice at the Michigan car company, a
Detroit based railroad car manufacturer. In 1888, Ford married Clara Jane Bryant and had one
child named Edsel. Ford supported himself by farming and running a sawmill.

Therefore, in 1910 the company, along with Ford moved to a bigger plant in Highland, Michigan,
north of Detroit. In 1913, Henry Ford and his company were producing one thousand Model Ts a
day and by 1922, half the cars in America were Model Ts. A brand new two passenger Model T in
1922 would sell for 269 U.S. dollars.
Henry Ford s creation of the Model T profited from his ideas and made a huge impact on the
world. One of them being WWII and the Allies victory. Henry Ford s company aided the victory
by developing airplane engines, tanks and other Ford vehicles.
Another big impact Henry Ford made has to do with an engine configuration you see nowadays.
Mainly in Italian supercars, American sports cars and an arsenal of other powerful vehicles. In
1932, Henry Ford at age 69 invented the V8 engine. The first V8 was 3.6 litres, made 65
horsepower and cost $610.
A fun fact about Henry Ford is that he did not just develop cars, he also created a small town in
the Amazon called Fordlandia to create automobiles. It was visioned to be a self reliant town and
rubber tree plantation. Unfortunately the legacy did not carry on and to this day, the town is

The development of an atherosclerotic plaque is relatively a very a complicated process where
Plaque rupture accounts for about 76% of fatality lead by thrombi. The evolution of atherosclerosis
begins with foam cell accumulation where the macrophages accumulate within arterial wall intima,
progresses to form fatty streak where further accumulation of intra and extracellular lipids, this is a
potentially reversible stage (Greenland p, 2013) further atheroma/fibroatheroma forms where
cholesterol and phospholipids accumulate intramurally. This is a vulnerable state as it is
predisposed to spontaneous rupture by inflammation and thrombus deposition may occur.
Hemodynamic changes during this stage may cause ischemia or silent infarction, if large plaque
rupture total occlusion may cause myocardial infarction or sudden cardiac death. Finally a
complex lesion can develop where fibro muscular tissue can be seen with repair efforts followed
by repeated plaque formation, this may slowly increase in size and produce significant arterial
narrowing.
Coronary arteries undergo a compensatory mechanism in relation to the area of the elastic lamina,
which is involved with plaque this is known as adaptive or positive remodelling where it preserves
the artery until 40% of the lesion is occupied, thus stenosis may not be clinically evident and can be

Ultimately, these men in addition to Nazi collaborators, everyday people doing their duty, and
Hitler s military machine were responsible for engineering the Holocaust. How did the goals
change from expulsion to mass extermination? The answer is that unless Nazi ideology were to
change, the contingencies of war made it a necessity. Germany and the Nazi regime had an
expansive outline for the execution of their goals. A predominant force in their agenda was the
notion of Judenpolitik, or how they would approach the treatment of European Jewry. The Nazis
had drawn up plans for the island of Madagascar to house Europe s Jews, however, given the
constraints of mass populations management, the Nazis settled for Ghettos as a provisional
measure. The vehicle for dealing with the Jews in the early stages of the war was through a system
of segregation in Europe, coined Ghettoization. These quasi internment camps acted as the Nazis
main device to control the Jewish population, just short of exterminating them. In fact, the Nazis
always strived to be rid of the Jewish population, however the jump from the notion of deportation
to the wanton destruction of millions of lives through mass shootings, gassings, and savage work
details was abrupt. Additionally, the fact that often the Germans were aided by collaborators in the

they encounter in life, the subject of identity and culture comes up. Literature has been a huge

to shoot the elephant. He even states he admires the elephant, but when he hears the locals
behind him chanting and telling him to shoot this creature, he gets excited. He then, after going
against everything he believes, shoots the elephant. These people practically clown this guy
every single day by tripping him and making fun of him behind of his back, and yet he shoots
this animal because they wanted him to. The way I looked at this situation is that the police
officer in this instance wanted to fit in really bad and got pleasure in having the crowd cheer
him on and he felt like he belonged so he did something that he felt was wrong. He did something
he wouldn t normally do to fit in. That is how our society works in this country as well. We make
people do a lot of things that are against their social norms to fit in. This is what made the poor
man shoot the elephant. Even though these people mocked him and made him feel bad, he
conformed to them. The problem with that is that in order to come over to this country, you have
to practically conform to the culture of the U.S. in order to survive in the society we live in.
Another take on this is how he says that he

Hull House Labor Museum
Hull House was a place for the poor to settle and have a relaxed time from work or the struggle.
The house provided child care, basic health care and classes for the poor (Presentation 10/5).
Lumbering our minds with literature that only served to cloud the really vital situation spread
before our eyes (Addams, pg. 71). Addams believed learningunneccessary skills in college like
literature represents educationlosing its value in the society. Addams focused on acquiring skills
that could be used in vital situations. The House was used to improve the conditions in the
communities for poor and learn domestic and educational skills to be used in their daily lives.

It was not only the new ideas of what made the settlement house a success. Addams and her
colleagues lived among the poor in the settlement houses. It was a way to fully understand how
the other half lives, learn from them by experiencing how they live in the communities. Addams
visited Toynbee Hall which taught her to discover the life of the poor and have a first hand
account and understand the daily activity. (Addams, pg.78) The nursery provided care to the
children while parents were working and poor women, who are dealing with unsupportive
husbands. (Addams, pg.111) With the safety of the children, factory condition were unsafe for
children to be working there. There was one boy that was injured from a machine in a factory ,
which led to his death. The factories acted in such carelessness as they replaced the child with
another worker. Illinois State Bureau of Labor was investigated the child labor in the factories.
The Factory Laws of Illinois regulated the sanitary conditions of sweatshops and fixing the age to

the children in the city and improve the conditions affecting their lives. The association
communicated with other associations to stop the sale of liquor and tobacco to minors. (pg. 168)
In public health measures, the workers of the house created a small incinerator to reduce the

Homeschooling vs. Public School Essay
Homeschooling vs. Public School Homeschooling vs. public school has been a public debate for
quite a while now. Some parents choose homeschooling because of the protection their child gains
and some choose public education because of the atmosphere. Most would claim that public
schools aren t teaching, less trying to create a religious fringe. However; both provide your child
educationbut there are many advantages and disadvantages for both. When a child is
homeschooled, parents naturally take a greater interest in their child s progress and they have a
better oversight of grades. A student that s attending home schoolcan work at their own pace without
feeling rushed to complete assignments and the test... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students who attend public school also tend to do better when they get to college. Even when the
funding for school becomes difficult, public school offers more extracurricular activities and
resources. There are several after school programs available for children, his is another way that
your child learn social skills by interacting. The number of students in a public school classroom
provides opportunities that don t exist in most home schools, from large scale projects to team
sports. One may offer a more controlled environment for your child, while the other may expose
him or her to a world of things you could not possibly imagine. Homeschooling, while sometimes
more fun, simply cannot be guaranteed to uphold the necessary educational standards. Public
schools will always meet these standards. You may find it difficult to choose between the two.
Making the right choice depends upon how your child learns, and what you won t them to learn.
Teachers are doing their jobs, society try to make it hard for teachers by cutting pay and not
giving enough funding for materials, but they still seem to make a way to teach our children
morals. Some teachers in public school even take time out to help some of the children that they
see are headed for a road of destruction. The difference are really plain as day, homeschooling cuts
them off from society and public school bridges them with the society so they can be able to face

Persuasive Essay On Sulfide Mining
Mining; the act, process or industry of extracting minerals from the Earth. This is a relatively
simple term that most people, especially in Minnesota, are familiar with due to Northern Minnesota
s iron range, which is home to the MinnTac facility, the largest iron ore operation in the Unites
States. However, the proposed PolyMet sulfide miningproject would be the first of it s kind in the
state s history. In order to protect and conserve the environment along lake Superior in Minnesota,
and keep local residents safe, the PolyMet mining project should be stopped. I will firstly discuss
what sulfide mining really is, and what the impacts of a mine this size would be for both the
environment and the people of Minnesota. Then I will shed light on the business PolyMet, and
what they would have to do in order for the project to succeed and be safe. An article written by
MPR news hosts Elizabeth Dunbar, and Dan Kraker titled Everything You Need to Know About
PolyMet, on Dec. 13th, 2013 states that, Sulfide mining is a term used in the Upper Midwest to
refer to mining metals that are found in sulfide bearing rock... such as copper, iron, gold and silver
(Dunbar and Kraker 1). Sulfide mining is seen as more dangerous than that of its counterpart: iron
mining. This is due to the fact that in sulfide mining, minerals are trapped in the ground along with
sulfide, thus meaning that when the ore is exposed to air and water, sulfuric acid, the same material
that makes battery

The Main Characters In The Graveyard Book By Neil Gaiman
The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman, is about a boy whose family was murdered by a
mysterious man Jack. This boy, now named Nobody Bod Owens, was taken under the care of
the people of the graveyard, spirits of those who had died and were buried in this graveyard, and
had Silas a man who was neither dead nor living become his guardian. It is here in the graveyard
in which Bod grows up and visits many strange places and people, including the place of the
Indigo Man, the Sleer, the ghoul gate, and a witch. It is from these experiences in which Bod
develops throughout the story, learning about the dead and trying to fit into the living, exploring
the reason why the men Jack had killed his family and is still after Bod. The setting of the
graveyard in the book The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman, plays an important role, shaping
Nobody Owens through his experiences, education, and as his home.
The graveyard served as a key in the development of the main character, Bod, through serving as
his home. The graveyard acts as a source of comfort for Bod, even when stereotypically, a
graveyard is known for being dark and gloomy. This is shown when Bod, while the world
puddled into blurred reflection, had sat concealed from anyone, living or dead... and read his
book. (Gaiman 174.) The fact that Bod was able to settle down and read while the environment
around him is so dismal shows that Bod is completely comfortable and relaxed in the graveyard,
rather than finding his

E-Prescribing and It s Function in Healthcare Essay
Electronic prescribing, often referred to as e prescribing, is a fairly new, innovative way for
physicians and other medical personnel to prescribe medications and keep track of patients
medical history. Not only has e prescribing enabled prescribers to electronically send a
prescription to the patients pharmacy of choice, in the short amount of time it has been available,
it has significantly reduced health care costs, not only for the patient, but for the medical facilities
as well. In 2003, e prescribing was included in the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) which
jumpstarted the role of e prescribing in healthcare. It has proven to significantly reduce the yearly

Not only does the electronic method of prescribing save time, it has also cut down on the number
of accidents caused by the misinterpretation of handwriting. Although now almost obsolete, hand
written prescriptions have been the cause of many medical errors because certain sound alike or
look alike drugs have, in the past, been incorrectly substituted for one another. A report given by the
insurance company, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield disclosed that if all physicians were to begin
using electronic prescription systems, more than two million adverse reactions or events ranging
from inconsequential to severe could be avoided each year (wgrz.com). According to pharmacist
and associate director for the Food and Drug Administration s Office of Drug Safety, Jerry Phillips,
Six hundred sound alike or look alike drug pairs have been identified as possible sources of error
since 1992 (nytimes.com). For example, Lamictal, a mood stabilizing anticonvulsant, is quite
similar in spelling to Lamisil, an antifungal drug. Because of these strong similarities, it is not
difficult to understand how easy it could be for medical personnel to mistake certain medications.
But with e prescribing, because the prescription is sent directly from the prescriber to the pharmacy,
the number of accidents caused by misinterpretation of handwriting has already been

Rise of Air Power in World War One Essay
At the 1899 Hague Peace Conference, it was declared that any combat from aircraft would be
considered a war crime. (Eyffinger 227) Merely 20 years later, World War One had seen the
daily use of airplanes and pilots for unyielding combat. While slow at first, the recognition of the
power of aircraft was quick as the Great War started. Out of all countries involved in the war,
Germany had the deepest trust in their aircraft, and this would shortly be to their advantage.
Whereas numerous air forces were by now in working condition, the fighting usage of airplanes
was minimal. The airplanes were used mainly as recon, but the potential for air combat was yet to
be seen. As the number of air force recruits increased, the number of planes... Show more content on

The only problem with machine guns was that any positions besides in front of the propeller
would decrease accuracy. Attaching a gun behind the propellers would hit the blades,
effectively downing the aircraft. There were many positions attempted, such as placing the gun
over the wing. One German inventor, Anthony Fokker, introduced the synchronisation device.
This device controlled the machine gun shots so it would fire only when the propeller blades
were not in the bullet trajectory. Once the Allied adopted this technology, the main role of
airplanes was changed. New war planes, built for the sole purpose of air combat, were being
rapidly manufactured. By 1916 it was a common sight to see airplanes in the air, fighting for
their country. The role of the airplane had changed from a small fragile aircraft to a strong
machine capable of shooting down multiple enemies. As a result, the feeling towards how planes
were being used in the war changed drastically throughout the war. The pilots were treated with
honour and respect due to how easily they could be shot out of the sky. This however, did not
stop recruits for joining the air force. The pilots were called knights in the sky by many citizens.
During the first few years of the war, the citizens and press were in awe of the pilots and the
aircraft. The aircrafts were often seen as a symbol of certain victory when they appeared from

One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s Faith
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn is a professed Christian. However, according to some critics, this does not
necessarily make his writings quot;Christian quot; (Schmemann 39). Biblical principles can clearly
be identified in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. They can be seen through Solzhenitsyn s
views on the world as a divine creation, the nature of evil, and faith in the future.
The Christian faith is rooted in the belief that God created everything, and that it is good. According
to Christian belief, God has a plan for His creation, and therefore there is no need to be pessimistic.
At first, this Christian view seems an unlikely fit with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shukhov s attribution of nature to a divine Creator is a fundamental Christian belief (Zamoyska
216).
The nature of evil, from the Christian standpoint, is that all evil comes from man s sin. This
makes evil a very personal force, rather than something abstract. Schmemann describes the
Christian idea of evil as a fall. He states that evil is quot;this fall from on high and the horror,
grief and suffering it evokes quot; (41). Evil, or sin, is controlled by the individual. Each person
has the ability to choose between right and wrong. In many parts of the novel, prisoners must
decide whether or not to help their prison mates. When Shukhov goes to the infirmary, his fellow
prisoners save his rations, so he may eat (Solzhenitsyn 25). Later, Tsezar decides to give Shukhov
the rest of his cigarette instead of giving it to Fetyukov (31). The Russian authorities and guards
have made the decision to carry out the injustices of the prison camp. The freedom of the individual
to choose right from wrong, an important idea in Christianity, is obviously present in this novel.
Finally, Solzhenitsyn s novel expresses one of the most important Christian principles, hope for the
future. In Christianity, since Christ paid the price for the sins of the world, there are no lost causes.
Christians have faith that Christ will return someday and that there will be a heaven. In the same
way, in the midst of the terrible conditions of the prison camp, Shukhov can be pleased at

His death was untimely and it is truly hard for me to speak of him now that he is deceased. I am
here today not to speak of his death and that he is no longer here by my side but to speak of his
times of great triumph. His death has hurt me and I will do whatever it takes to destroy the lives
of those people who murder him. All of you and myself will mourn the loss of one of our great
soldiers and my best friend. Banquo was the bravest person I have ever met, he spent his life
fighting for Scotland and he fought well and came out of all of his battles alive. He has always
stayed by my side. He lived a noble life and he died a noble death, from the start of his life when

his battles he was trusted with men s lives and he will be in his death. He fought like a gladiator.

outside of his comfort zone by having, formal visits on a succession of total strangers (Munroe,
2). These visits are supposed to help Mr. Nuttel in his nerve cure which is why he is willing to
put forth the effort. Mr. Nuttel shows, uncertainty in even the most benign of social situations
(Korb, 7). This makes the whole situation very difficult for him even before he is spooked by
Vera and her tale. This is a big step in the right direction, or so he thinks. Unfortunately for Mr.
Nuttel, he is anguished for his actions. Although he tries to calm his nerves by taking this retreat,
he ends up doing the exact opposite. Once Mr. Nuttel sees what he thinks are ghosts, his anxiety

Monsters (2010) is a modern day fictional monster film which, acts as a social commentary,
touching upon political dilemmas, science fiction, romance and public anxieties. The narrative
of the film based in Mexico is a world in which the monsters are huge octopus like aliens. For the
past 6 years they have lived in a large area of Mexico that has now been confined as an infected
zone however, a huge wall has been built on the Mexico USA border to keep the aliens out. The film
follows a photographer; one of the main characters, Andrew, and his boss daughter (Sam) the other
main character as he warily attempts to escort her safely back to her father in the USA after a

The Impact Of Land Ownership On The West Bank And Gaza...
The First Intifada was the 1987 Palestinian revolution against Israel. It was an uprising that was
sparked from decades of political and territorial tension in the West Bank and Gaza. There were
triggers immediately prior to the Intifada that sparked the heightened reaction however much focus
needs to be placed in the long term causes prior to December 1987 to explain the First Intifada.
Following the Six Day War, Israeli settlement and presence in the West Bankand Gaza Strip formed
a constant tension and unrest between Israelis and Palestinians. It is also important to recognise the
climate of economic adversities and low quality of living conditions for the Palestinians due to
Israeli focused government policies. This essay will discuss the importance of land ownership in
the West Bank and Gaza Strip as the source of mounting frustration by Palestinians against the
Israelis. It will also discuss the rekindling of Palestinian nationalism that was especially prominent
throughout the Intifada.
While specific events may have sparked the First Intifada, it was the overt and underlying tension
between the Palestinians and Israelis that were the foundation for the tension in 1987. This essay
will focus specifically on the tension that was caused by Israeli land ownership in the West Bank
and Gaza Strip.
The dispute of land tenure and occupation was the most extensive and enduring cause of tensions
surrounding the First Intifada. At the point of the First Intifada there was a

Essay On Voter Turnout In America
America truly is in trouble. The voter turnout should be, in my opinion, atleast 75% of the total
eligible population. I do NOT feel however that lowering the voting age will be the answer to
this problem. As it may help the overall volume of voters, I feel it will diminish the percentages
of voter participation. A more likely cure: put America back into our young Americans! When I
was a child we were all much more patriotic than the kids of present America. We sang songs of
patronage in music class, we spoke the Pledge of Alegience, and the Fourth of July was about
independence. My children know very few songs of our political history. I believe I know where it
all began. I sing a song to my sons at bedtime each night. After... Show more content on

I was truly heart broken. I was speechless for a moment, then decided that the bedtime song was
so much more important now than I had imagined. I would now begin to correct the problem for
them. Our short comings in our children started with the seperation of church and state. I m not
using any statistics to write this, for I feel that it s all about the level of patronage our younger
generations excercise. Seperation of church and state was about religious freedom, which we
protect in this country. It did more than that (unbeknownst to us at the time). In passing this to
protect civil liberties, we made way for other, more important liberties, to fall by the way. The
Pledge of Alligience that we all rose for every single morning in school, the same pledge we all
took for granted, was soon to be forgotten. When this year s election chaos started, one of them
came to me and asked what is this Dad ? I told him it was how we choose a president for the next
four years. He had no further questions at the time, but soon had more and more. I realized that I
had never considered teaching them about this at such a young age, but I pondered how crucial it
must be. It must also be reincorperated in our

  • 2. Competition between Dr. Who and Supernatural In choosing between aliens and supernatural beings, the decision might be too difficult to make. But when it comes to choosing between Doctor Who and Supernatural , Supernatural is the better of the two. While both shows are good, Supernatural has more complexity of characters, a better soundtrack, and presents conflicts better. To evaluate whether a show is worth losing my social life, I like to take into consideration some factors of the show. The first and most important criterion is the characters. A show s characters are supposed to be complex, not one dimensional characters that only serve one purpose. Another criterion is if the soundtrack heightens the show s enjoyability. A show needs to have a good soundtrack to enhance the show. The last criterion I use to evaluate a tv series is the way the conflicts are presented. The conflicts are supposed to be connected but not be repetitive; if they are too alike then the viewer will get bored. In Supernatural, the characters are better developed than in Doctor Who; for example, Jo Harvelle. While in most shows a girl like Jo would have been portrayed like someone who only thinks about boys, fashion, and other girly things, Supernatural does not portrayed her like that. In Supernatural , Jo was first introduced as a rebellious teenager who is always arguing with her mom, Ellen Harvelle, about her future. But unlike other shows, Ellen and Jo do not argue about whom Jo marries; they argue about whether Jo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. To A Mouse Analysis The best laid schemes o mice an men, gang aft agley. Robert Burns states this in his famous poem To a Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent at first, but by the end of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie and George who are migrant workers in the 1930 s during the great depression. They move from ranch to ranch with each other, which sets them apart from most because they have each other, while the majority of migrant workers travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and responsible, and takes care of Lennie. Lennie is a very large, strong, man, but he is very simple minded, as he is a little mentally challenged. Although Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice man and has the mentality of a child. The novel focuses on the dream that George and Lennie have of getting their own farm. This is a very important component of the novel, because presumably, it is the idea of George and Lennie s dream that inspired the novel s title. Steinbeck conveys the message of Robert Burnspoem by showing how easily a dream or plan can be shattered. George and Lennie talk about their dream of owning a farm near the beginning of the novel, so we can assume that they have had this dream for quite some time, especially from the detail George includes when telling Lennie about it. They want to have their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Role Of Women And Motherhood Through Modern Literature The Role of Women and Motherhood through Modern Literature Gertrude Stein s story The Gentle Lena in Three Lives reaffirms the expectations of women set out by society, yet the main character Lena challenges the role of women in the workforce, marriage, and motherhood. Lena s gentle, sweet, patient and servant like behavior affirms the way society saw women. Women had no voice as to what to expect from their lives and for many their greatest aspiration was to be a mother. Lena s life just like the lives of many other women were designed and controlled by someone else and thus many women live in a bubble when it came to the aspects of their lives. In early 20th century society, women were seen and not heard. Their lives revolved around their father and later on their husbands. A womans main duties included cleaning, cooking, and taking care of the children. Lena s attitude can be best described as passive and gentle. Lena is also best described as a dreamer who has lost touched with reality, she was always sort of dreamy and not there (Stein 146). This passive attitude would inhibit Lena from ever being truly happy. Lena begins her life as very unimportant she was not an important daughter in the family her passive aggressive attitude makes her the perfect candidate for her controlling aunt to create a new life for her (Stein 146). Lena seems to understand what is happening in her life but she doesn t know how to feel about it or what action she should take towards ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Freedom Riders Equality was not even twenty four hours and the KKK embarked on the attacks once again (117). With attacks continued on by the KKK other steps were trying to be made in racial equality. Occurring before the time of the KKK s start of their attacks were the Freedom Rides looking for racial equality on the transportation services. Raymond Arsenault discusses in his book Freedom Riders 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice that the Freedom Rides began after the blacks were forced to give up their bus seat, so that whites could sit, Irene Morgan first experienced this when she was forced by the driver to remove herself from the seat in 1944 (14). Arsenault finds that the rides made their way all of the south of the United States going from Florida to Northern Virginia toward the west in Illinois and through Missouri and heading as west as Texas and California (220 221). John A. Kirk writes in his article Battle Cry of Freedom: Little Rock, Arkansas and The Freedom Riders at Fifty that the riders were surged on by the Congress of Racial Equality(CORE). The riders route was planned to ride from St, Louis, Little Rock, Shreveport, and finally stopping in New Orleans. They would later leave New Orleans headed ... • 6. Language Separation in Immigrant Families Essay Language Separation in Immigrant Families In America, each family usually has a standard language spoken in the household. Communication is easy and mothers can talk with their children and they can connect with them. Some people who have this benefit are unaware that some families do not have this advantage in their homes. Lee Thomas and Linh Cao understand that some families have language change through each generation. Cao herself lived in house where her relatives used several different languages and learned first hand that there are many losses when a family doesn t share a common language. After 1975, she learned to speak, read, and write in Vietnamese. She is now comfortable with English but still uses Vietnamese. Her siblings learned Vietnamese first and then learned Mandarin or Hainanese. Now each child uses a different language with each other and their elders. The purpose of the article is to demonstrate that even families can be separated by language. To show this point the author s write about Cao s experiences with a language struggle between family members. This narration gives the reader a close up look at how language works in a family. Besides using narration she always uses a little cause and effect by sharing the results of having language separation. She gave three examples of conversational situations in her household. The languages Vietnamese, Hainanese, Mandarin, and English are used interchangeably. Looking at the dialogues in the article made the conversation seem broken because there were four languages being used. The first conversation is between Cao s mom and one of her siblings, Tung. It has to do with Tung not wanting to eat the large amount of noodles Mom prepared for him. Then she asks about Tung s homework and he is unable to explain it to her because they do not share a fluent language between them. In the article this selection was described as a routinized interactive exchange (Thomas Cao 64). This means that the two of them were able to have small talk based on things like food. But they ... Donald Trump is talking about how America would be better off if we kept everyone out of it, not letting anyone from mexico entering by building a wall. Trump thoroughly believes that this wall is how we will make America great again. There are many people who are for trumps immigration stance, wanting to send back any illegal immigrants to their country. However what if being failed to be noted is that building a wall is only regressive. Building this wall with one of America s closest allies will only put a strain in our relationship with not only Mexico, but the rest of the world. Trump wants to alienate and attack all Mexicans legal and illegal in the United States, as opposed to Jill Stein who wants to be able to provide for them. Montesquieu s Contributions to the Enlightenment Many people living in The United States like to think that our founding fathers thought of the basic construction of our whole government system. They really did not; Charles Louis Secondat, baron de Montesquieu thought of the system of checks and balances plus the three branches of government. The whole framework of our Constitutionis based on what Montesquieu thoughtof during the enlightenment period. The purpose of the three branches is to make it where no one person or group of people is greater than the rest. Although he was inclined to think humans were exactly the same everywhere he looked, he knew as a local judicial body that people all over the world are very different. He was painfully aware of the huge variation in local customs and laws. Although he knew people were different depending on where there culture and background was from; he knew that every body s mind could reason. From average republican arguments that laws had to fit to the standards attached to the kind of government for the people; Montesquieu had to add three arguments. Firstly he said that the laws and customs of a country will depend upon the more demanding mode of the country. He felt that trade promoted country reliance s and increased tolerance of different cultures overall promoting peace. Promoting trade meant promoting the differences in the world to come together. Although with some countries he thought it might promote competition rather than coГ¶peration and acceptance. Meaning they might take trading as a rivalry instead of a friendly gesture. • 18. Theme Of Truth And Loyalty In King Lear In the play King Lear, truth and loyalty are major themes that William Shakespeare seems to focus on throughout the entire thing. However, truth and loyalty each come at a cost, even if the cost is different for each person that has these traits. This is seen through the comparison of two of the characters, Edgar and Cordelia, from beginning to end. They both have the traits of loyalty and truth , but they differ on where these bring them in the story. Although the audience would undoubtedly side with classical truthful and loyal characters, Edgar and Cordelia embody the idea that truth and loyalty always come with a cost―in Lear, truth and loyalty only bring and contribute to problems, rather than stopping or resolving problems. Starting with Cordelia, her problems with truth and loyalty begin right from first pages of the first scene of Act в… . It all begins with Lear asking his daughters to tell him how much they love him. When it is Cordelia s turn to express her feelings, it isn t what Lear wants to hear but rather the truth. Shakespeare goes on the show that Richard does not take counsel from those who have the experience and knowledge to further his rule, much like when he decided to banish Mowbry and Bolingbroke, that decision was done by himself, without hearing any advice or taking heed of what the consequences might be. Even Gaunt had tried to help Richard even on his deathbed he says that his life s counsel would not hear but hoped that his death s sad tale may yet undeaf his ear (II.i pg 401).Machiavelli points out that a prince who inherits the throne, like Richard, is the most enabled to keep and maintain his power, he who has connections and had witnessed those who succeeded him, for it is a wise man ought always to follow the paths beaten by great men, and to imitate those who have been supreme (Machiavelli 28). To discuss the political structure and developments of this period modern scholars refer to as the divided monarchy in Ancient Israel, there must first be a discussion of the political and religious factors that bring about the unification and later division of the tribes of Israel. In the Hebrew Bible, various tribes are depicted as encompassing the land of Canaan prior to a time modern scholars refer to as the united monarchy, which refers to the rule of King Saul, Davidand Solomon.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The inability of the three great powers of the time, Egypt, Assyria and Babylon, to exert influence over lesser entities such as the philistines greatly contributed to their rise in power. The culmination of these events lead to a desire and almost obligation of political unification under a monarch for the tribes of Israel because their internal weakness threatened their very existence. Nevertheless, contrary to the depiction in the Hebrew Bible, the tribes appear to maintain a significant amount of autonomy during the monarchy, which leads to the demise of the small unified monarchy and the development of two split kingdoms, Israel and Judah, that is found in I Kings 12. This is a result of increased demands and pressure from King Solomon that would have escalated if his son Rehoboam came to power over the lands of Israel. However, many scholars such as Beth Alpert Nakhai, attest that hints of disunity between Judah and other tribes were present through rebellions in David and Solomon s reigns. Therefore, leaders of the various tribes elected to anoint a new king over their lands that would politically unite them enough to protect them from outside threats, while still maintaining their relative autonomy over their own tribes, making the kingdom of Israel a dispersed state with various religious and political centers. The Model Minority Myth Of Asian Americans The Model Minority Myth The model minority stereotype suggests that Asian Americans as a group are achieving a higher level of academic, economic, and social success than the overall American population (Hartlep, 2013; Tran Birman, 2010). This stereotype is very much engrained in the American culture today; however, such acceptance does not reflect the whole truth. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, 52.4% of Asian Americans over the age of 25 have a bachelor s degree or higher, compared to only 29.9% of the total population and 30.3% of non Hispanic White Americans, signifying higher overall educational attainment for this group (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012). However, this high number failed to consider the differences within the Asian population with some subgroups having educational levels that are significantly below the national average. The 2010 U.S. Census also reported that Asian Americans have a significantly higher annual family income than any other racial groups in the country, though it failed to mention that Asian American families tend to be larger with more family members that are contributing to that high annual income number (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012). (Ehrenreich and Hochschild, 8). As described in Love and Gold by Hochschild, this care deficit makes love and care into the new gold (26). Once, gold was traded and sold to others, but the growing need for domestic help has caused that to be referred to as the new gold. Women in America, for example, are joining the work force that has been primarily male dominated. Instead of having to stay at home with the kids, this woman is busy with her work life and must hire someone to clean her home and to give her children the love she cannot give them as often. One of them being WWII and the Allies victory. Henry Ford s company aided the victory by developing airplane engines, tanks and other Ford vehicles. Another big impact Henry Ford made has to do with an engine configuration you see nowadays. Mainly in Italian supercars, American sports cars and an arsenal of other powerful vehicles. In 1932, Henry Ford at age 69 invented the V8 engine. The first V8 was 3.6 litres, made 65 horsepower and cost $610. A fun fact about Henry Ford is that he did not just develop cars, he also created a small town in the Amazon called Fordlandia to create automobiles. The development of an atherosclerotic plaque is relatively a very a complicated process where Plaque rupture accounts for about 76% of fatality lead by thrombi. The evolution of atherosclerosis begins with foam cell accumulation where the macrophages accumulate within arterial wall intima, progresses to form fatty streak where further accumulation of intra and extracellular lipids, this is a potentially reversible stage (Greenland p, 2013) further atheroma/fibroatheroma forms where cholesterol and phospholipids accumulate intramurally. This is a vulnerable state as it is predisposed to spontaneous rupture by inflammation and thrombus deposition may occur. Hemodynamic changes during this stage may cause ischemia or silent infarction, if large plaque rupture total occlusion may cause myocardial infarction or sudden cardiac death. Finally a complex lesion can develop where fibro muscular tissue can be seen with repair efforts followed by repeated plaque formation, this may slowly increase in size and produce significant arterial narrowing. Coronary arteries undergo a compensatory mechanism in relation to the area of the elastic lamina, which is involved with plaque this is known as adaptive or positive remodelling where it preserves the artery until 40% of the lesion is occupied, thus stenosis may not be clinically evident and can be asymptomatic. This provides both positive and negative outcomes for those who seek to study the Holocaust and understand it from all angles. Ultimately, these men in addition to Nazi collaborators, everyday people doing their duty, and Hitler s military machine were responsible for engineering the Holocaust. How did the goals change from expulsion to mass extermination? The answer is that unless Nazi ideology were to change, the contingencies of war made it a necessity. Germany and the Nazi regime had an expansive outline for the execution of their goals. A predominant force in their agenda was the notion of Judenpolitik, or how they would approach the treatment of European Jewry. The Nazis had drawn up plans for the island of Madagascar to house Europe s Jews, however, given the constraints of mass populations management, the Nazis settled for Ghettos as a provisional measure. The vehicle for dealing with the Jews in the early stages of the war was through a system of segregation in Europe, coined Ghettoization. These quasi internment camps acted as the Nazis main device to control the Jewish population, just short of exterminating them. In fact, the Nazis always strived to be rid of the Jewish population, however the jump from the notion of deportation to the wanton destruction of millions of lives through mass shootings, gassings, and savage work details was abrupt. However, the proposed PolyMet sulfide miningproject would be the first of it s kind in the state s history. Out of all countries involved in the war, Germany had the deepest trust in their aircraft, and this would shortly be to their advantage. Attaching a gun behind the propellers would hit the blades, effectively downing the aircraft. There were many positions attempted, such as placing the gun over the wing. One German inventor, Anthony Fokker, introduced the synchronisation device. This device controlled the machine gun shots so it would fire only when the propeller blades were not in the bullet trajectory. Once the Allied adopted this technology, the main role of airplanes was changed. New war planes, built for the sole purpose of air combat, were being rapidly manufactured. The narrative of the film based in Mexico is a world in which the monsters are huge octopus like aliens. For the past 6 years they have lived in a large area of Mexico that has now been confined as an infected zone however, a huge wall has been built on the Mexico USA border to keep the aliens out. The film follows a photographer; one of the main characters, Andrew, and his boss daughter (Sam) the other main character as he warily attempts to escort her safely back to her father in the USA after a rogue alien attack left her injured, and the romance between the two throughout their journey. Another scene in the film when Andrew and Sam got in the cab, seeing the destructed buildings and Sam asked the taxi driver, Do you feel safe living here? and the taxi driver replied, Where would we go? My work, my family is all here. This representation is an iconic resemblance imitating areas of real present civilian conflict zones such as those in Afghanistan and Iraq, portraying the destruction of the lives of the people who live there and the difficulties faced by those who have loved ones entangled in conflict, either as a military or civilian presence. Although we are aware that this destruction was in fact caused by conflict between military and the aliens, the way the scene has been composed and edited shows clear visual similarities to images depicted in the media of destruction in contemporary ... • 51. The Impact Of Land Ownership On The West Bank And Gaza... The First Intifada was the 1987 Palestinian revolution against Israel. It was an uprising that was sparked from decades of political and territorial tension in the West Bank and Gaza. There were triggers immediately prior to the Intifada that sparked the heightened reaction however much focus needs to be placed in the long term causes prior to December 1987 to explain the First Intifada. Following the Six Day War, Israeli settlement and presence in the West Bankand Gaza Strip formed a constant tension and unrest between Israelis and Palestinians. It is also important to recognise the climate of economic adversities and low quality of living conditions for the Palestinians due to Israeli focused government policies. • 52. Essay On Voter Turnout In America America truly is in trouble. The voter turnout should be, in my opinion, atleast 75% of the total eligible population. I do NOT feel however that lowering the voting age will be the answer to this problem. As it may help the overall volume of voters, I feel it will diminish the percentages of voter participation. A more likely cure: put America back into our young Americans! When I was a child we were all much more patriotic than the kids of present America. We sang songs of patronage in music class, we spoke the Pledge of Alegience, and the Fourth of July was about independence. My children know very few songs of our political history. I believe I know where it all began. I sing a song to my sons at bedtime each night. After... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was truly heart broken. I was speechless for a moment, then decided that the bedtime song was so much more important now than I had imagined. I would now begin to correct the problem for them. Our short comings in our children started with the seperation of church and state. I m not using any statistics to write this, for I feel that it s all about the level of patronage our younger generations excercise. Seperation of church and state was about religious freedom, which we protect in this country. It did more than that (unbeknownst to us at the time). In passing this to protect civil liberties, we made way for other, more important liberties, to fall by the way. The Pledge of Alligience that we all rose for every single morning in school, the same pledge we all took for granted, was soon to be forgotten. When this year s election chaos started, one of them came to me and asked what is this Dad ? I told him it was how we choose a president for the next four years. He had no further questions at the time, but soon had more and more. I realized that I had never considered teaching them about this at such a young age, but I pondered how crucial it must be. It must also be reincorperated in our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
