Specific Heat Of Calorimeter Lab Report
John Yu
Meyer
AP Chem
9 October, 2016
In this experiment, hot water was mixed with room temperature water in a calorimeter to calculate the
specific heat capacity of the calorimeter. The specific heat of the calorimeter was then used to find the
enthalpy of sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid, ammonia and hydrochloric acid, and ammonium
chloride and sodium hydroxide by mixing each, respectively, into the beaker after each other. The
beaker was washed with distilled water after each reaction. The enthalpy of sodium hydroxide and
hydrochloric acid and ammonia and hydrochloric acid were subtracted together to calculate the
enthalpy of ammonium chloride and sodium hydroxide to prove Hess Law.
The lab errors that occurred in this lab would be the heat escaping while the reactants were being
added to the calorimeter because there is an opening and way for the heat to escape in that moment.
This caused the reaction to lose heat and energy to the lab and cause the reaction to report less energy
than there should be. Also, some of the heat was lost from the calorimeter because no perfect
calorimeter can exist. This caused the reaction to lose energy as well. The reactants have not ... Show

This lab observed the Law of Energy Conservation that all the energy in the reactions was from the
reactants breaking and forming new bonds. The Law of Energy Conservation was also observed when
the energy lost as heat from the beaker was found in the calorimeter. In the calculations, Hess Law
was tested and proved with adding the enthalpies of reaction two and three equalling the enthalpy of
reaction one. This lab also observed endothermic reactions through neutralization and the forming of
salts. Thermal equilibrium was observed temperature stabilizing in the calorimeter with the mixing of
hot and cold water. Since the reactions were giving off heat, the enthalpy of the reactions were
negative and the reactions are product

The Moral Obligation Of Affluent Individuals
The question on whether affluent individuals have a moral obligation to assist the poor is a widely
controversial subject, and this was even apparent in our very own ethical reasoning class. So the
question still stands, is it our duty to assist the poor? The answer is much simpler than people make it
out to be. Yes.
While this answer is widely based of off my own opinion as well as those of Peter Singer, I am
prepared to defend my answer not only with the Singers evidence but also with my own thoughts and
motives. But I don t believe that only the rich should feel the moral obligation to assist the poor, I
believe everyone should do whatever we can to help one another. I do not believe that people should
be forced into helping one another by laws and government authorities, but instead that it is the simply
the right thing to do. First off I am going to explain the details of Singers argument for the moral
obligation of affluent individuals to assist the poor. Singer basis his argument off utilitarian grounds,
so generally promoting whatever promotes the most happiness for the most people. Here are Singers
three main premises. First, if we have the power to prevent something bad from happening without
having to sacrifice too much then morally we should do it. Second, poverty is the number one source
of human misery. And third, those who are well off have a moral obligation to help reduce poverty, but
they do not necessarily have to sacrifice everything or anything of too

Disadvantages Of Driverless Cars
I m on my way! you tell your friend over the phone as you step into your car. I ll be there in half an
hour! You sit down and buckle up, absentmindedly opening the alarm app on your phone. You set it to
wake you up in thirty minutes, then relax into your seat, turn on the radio, and close your eyes. How is
this possible? Technology has advanced incredibly quickly over the last hundred years, with
developments such as the Internet and the smart phone. Along with this technology has come a lot of
developments in the robotics industry. Robotic surgeons, controlled by professionals, have hands
much steadier and more precise than a human could ever hope to mimick, increasing safety and
decreasing recovery time for surgery patients. Most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sensors like these protect against most accidents already, and make up for any amount of human error
that might put a driver in some amount of peril. The ultrasonic sensors tell the car whether or not there
are bumps on the road, or if it s approaching a curb, something a human is not always capable of
doing, and the lidar on top identifies lane markers and the edges of the road by bouncing light off of
them. Sensors on self driving cars take out all the guess work usually involved in driving a car out of
the equation. While all of these sensors work together to steer the car away from danger, occasionally,
says Olivia Solon, data amassed by all the sensors can conflict with each other, resulting in a
dangerous situation referred to as sensor fusion. This fusion of sensors has already resulted in a fatal
crash involving a tester of a self driving Tesla car; the sensors produced conflicting data, and as a
result mistook a truck for an overhead road sign, causing the car to run directly into the truck.
Therefore, while these numerous sensors are instrumental to the driverless car, they are still in
development and not yet safe to trust with human lives. GPS tracking and positioning is also
incorporated into every automated car, for the self evident purpose of informing driver and car where
they are and where they re going. Some cars

The Emergency Management Coordinator volunteered his services to find and apply for grants to fund
the equipment needed for Search and Rescue and the fire departments. Further discussion resulted in
the development of responsibilities for the Emergency Management Coordinator specific to mass
casualty incidents. The EMS Department showed great enthusiasm and desire to develop a rescue task
force, in addition to working and training with the various other emergency services departments.
Sustainable medical training for EMS and other first responders was analyzed, selected, scheduled,
and carried out. Requirements for RTF and support positions were developed and approved as part of
the project development. Numerous appendices were created to aid in planning, training, and response
to high risk incidents. Contact lists, maps, 3D tours, equipment lists, triage and treatment guidelines,
and a transport log are included in the appendices. These appendices are key to ensuring that
incident/unified command have access to necessary and accurate information regarding personnel,

Themes in Raymond Carver s Literature Essay
Themes in Raymond Carver s Literature
In Short Cuts, by Raymond Carver, characters experience trials and problems in their lives, whether
extreme such as in A Small, Good Thing and Lemonade or nominal such as in Vitamins . They all
seem to depict these struggles as uphill battles which the characters cannot and mostly do not
overcome. The characters throughout Carver s Short Cuts struggle through their lives in private
desperation, often to ultimately realize that they are bound to the truth of who they really are, which is
shown in the story Neighbors.
In Neighbors , Bill and Arlene Miller are a couple with menial jobs who give credence to the saying
the grass is greener on the other side of the fence . They are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Well, I wish it was us (14), Jim says as he waves goodbye to his neighbors on their way to another
vacation.
The Miller are asked to house sit for their neighbors. The each go into the apartment separately, trying
to uncover some aspect of the Stone s lives, keeping it a secret from the other what they are doing. It is
ultimately realized at the end that they are both doing more than feeding the cat when they go into the
apartment.
The Miller s searching through their neighbor s apartment is symbolic of their search for meaning in
their own lives. Because they are not satisfied with the way they live, they project the Stones life onto
their own, to the extent of pretending to live in their apartment, if only for one moment.
Bill s fantasy of being like the Stone s may be shown by his actions of taking a bottle of Harriet s pills
(14), and drinking and eating their food, with no qualms of invade his neighbors privacy (16). On page
15, Bill had the feeling that he left something as he was closing the door to the Stone s apartment. It is
likely that he felt he was leaving behind the false persona of who and how he wanted to live like.
After more frequent trips into the Stone s apartment, Bill begins to wear their clothing, which is also
symbolic of trying to put on

Ethnocentrism And Its Impact On Society
Within Western Culture, ethnocentrism is passed down from one generation to the next. This can be
seen in many ways through the development of anthropology. It is also seen in the context of spiritual
life and faith which the Western view has been imposed on many people groups throughout the world.
It was not until anthropology changed from being a comparison of culture, an armchair approach, to a
more historical particularism approach that we have been able to better appreciate different cultures.
Aside from anthropological work, this understanding is vital for Christians everywhere. From this new
anthropological approach, we as Christians must turn away from ethnocentrism and appreciate the
way God moves through cultural context, specifically studies of language and kinship, in order to have
a better understand each other and of who God is.
. To begin with, language is foundational in societies worldwide. Many societies embrace a language
hierarchy, but there is no superiority in language. The Sapir Whorf hypothesis gives insight to the way
people think and how language helps them experience the world around them. This closely relates to
the way that people experience God and the faith. Language translates our ideas and beliefs to those
around us in a way that they may be able to relate and receive some sort of understanding. The Sapir
Whorf hypothesis seems ring true from reading the Old Testament in Hebrew. From reading the verses
in Hebrew one gets a glimpse into the

Patient encounters in cardiology practicum afforded extended latitude to embrace nursing
competencies relative to direct clinical practice, consultation, research, clinical and professional
leadership, collaboration, and ethical decision making, which are applicable and fundamental to the
role of the advanced practice nurse. Further experiences in both cardiology and medical surgical
provided opportunity to connect the dots, via the use of physical assessment skills as correlated to
illness and pathological findings. (Self evaluation reflects sound clinical/assessment skills and a good
grasp of pathophysiological conditions.) Clinical experiences in hospice and palliative care provided
opportunity to view health care from the dichotomous spectrum of life and death, with understanding
that not only should one be afforded a quality life, but also a quality and dignified death. An issue of
contention for this clinician has always been the unilateral focus of medical care without attention to
the psychological framework that governs physiological states. Working in Hospice and palliative care
was enlightening as it allowed for introspection and exploration of feelings that might otherwise
remain untapped unless personally faced with a similar situation. Cultural awareness, biosocial skills,

Gender Roles In Fantomina, By Eliza Haywood
The 18th century was a time where there were very strong gender norms that were strictly followed.
But in Eliza Haywood s Fantomina, those gender norms are challenged with the creation of a cunning,
and manipulative female protagonist. We are given a text that empowers the main character,
Fantomina, throughout the story and shows us a woman s power to exercise their control over men. As
a women of a higher class, Fantomina would have been expected to follow a certain code of conduct
and uphold a good reputation. However, her ability to deceive Beauplaisir shows her power over him,
as well as her skill and intelligence.
In the start of the story, Haywood places Fantomina in an unusual place for a woman of her standard
to be, a playhouse. She is seen observing the actions of those around her in her box seat. By
purposefully placing Fantomina above the men in her location at the playhouse, this represents her
power over men who are in the pit seats below her. Men are casted as depraved and deeply judged by
the eye of Fantomina. (227). By allowing us to see the story from her perspective, Haywood furthers
the division between men and women by showing the power that Fantomina currently holds while also
foreshadowing the power she will gain by observing others and learning different mannerisms, such as
those of a prostitute.
Haywood s use of female power is continued throughout the novella through gender politics.
Beauplaisir believes that he has asserted his dominance and is

Tony Kaye s Use Of Some Important Film Techniques In A Film
Tony Kaye has used many film techniques to successfully express his purpose of each scene to us the
audience. Another important film technique that Tony Kaye utilizes is Mise en scene as it is used to
describe the design aspects of the film and allows us to analyze everything in one scene. One scene
that perfectly fits these details is the memorable police scene when Derek surrenders to the police and
gets taken into custody. We see Dereks tattoo and the signs at the back clearly in this scene. What to

Murray Compensation Inc. Case Study
Re: Murray Compensation, Inc.
Facts

Benito Mussolini, AKA Il Dulce
Benito Mussolini, known as Il Duce, was the founder of the totalitarian form of government known as
Fascism. However that was not enough recognition; Mussolini wanted to demonstrate to the world
that he could be a successful ruler as well. Mussolini came to power and remained in power primarily
due to the actions of the Italian Blackshirts. As the Blackshirts maintained law and order, terrorized
political opponents, defended Italy, and marched on Rome, Mussolini successfully ruled as dictator.
Controlled and led by Mussolini, the Italian Blackshirts also known as the Squadre d Azione, were
made up of war veterans and young people led by ringleaders. The Blackshirt uniform consisted of a
green jacket and trouser with a black shirt and tie. The green colors were similar to that of the army
uniforms, but the black shirt and tie differentiated the Blackshirts from the other combat forces. The
Blackshirts were first created on March 23, 1919 and played a vital role in the rule of Mussolini.
Benito Mussolini s rise to power primarily relied on the Blackshirts march on Rome. On October 24,
1922, Mussolini hosted a Fascist convention in Naples as the reason for the March on Rome. There he
declared, Either the government will be given to us, or we will seize it by marching on Rome.
Mussolini s plan was to threaten to occupy the nation s capital of Rome with his forces, the
Blackshirts, and pressure King Victor Emmanuel III into inviting him into the government.

potential partners. Abgenix had three different options. Pharmacol, Biopart and go it alone. Abgenix
had to decide whether to: License ABX EGF to a pharmaceutical company which would do all further
testing and commercialization. (This was the option of Pharmacol. Abgenix would bear little risk and
receive license royalties.)
Use a joint venture with a biotechnology company to complete the testing and commercialization.
(This was the option of Biopart. Abgenix would bear moderate risk but split profits.)
Pursue the ABX EGF project as a solo venture. (This was the option of going alone. Abgenix would
bear all risks but gather all the profits.)
F. Conclusion and Recommendations:
Abgenix was about to make an important decision.
The advantages of having a partner are as follows: Additional resources and cash to develop ABX
EGF properly, Decreasing the risk of Abgenix if ABX EGF runs of either not developing it properly or
that the product turns out to be unsuccessful after Abgenix invests a large amount of cash. Partner s

Intercultural Competency Paper
Developing cultural competency is not always easy and it is not something that one acquires through
birth. Instead, it is a developmental process that is nurtured over time. While the growth process may
start off with a memorized list of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors that one is supposed to
follow, true intercultural competence evolves when behaviors are internalized and occur naturally
because they feel right (Medina López Portillo, 2004, p. 315). Stress, anxiety, and difficulties are
sometimes signs that an individual is making progress towards cross cultural deepening (Stephenson,
2002, p. 99). At an extreme, when individuals are overwhelmingly stressed in a new cultural
environment, their failure to adapt is expressed at times by emotional and physical health issues (Li et
al., 2013).
The measurement of an individual s intercultural competence is a complex challenge. The literature
references numerous assessment tools that have emerged over time but it would be difficult to identify
any one particular tool as the best and there seems to be little agreement on what dimensions of
intercultural learning should be tested (Deardorff, 2011; El Ganzoury, 2012; Godwin Jones, 2013).

Analysis Of War Of The Roses Lewis
The article War of the Roses by Brenda Ralph Lewis highlights the chain of dynastically civil wars.
The seed of the wars of the roses, the first of England s two civil wars which saw the ruling
Plantagenet family ruin itself in a struggle for the Crown, were planted in the dank dungeons of
Pontefract Castle, Yorkshire, 55 years before the first clash of arms ever took place, Their civil strife
and violence gave rise to the Tudor government.(Lewis 47) These wars were between the House of
York and the House of Lancaster from 1455 to 1485. The names of these wars were allocated several
years after the two conflicting parties had come to an agreement.
The three primary causes of these wars include unsolved conflicts from the Hundred Years War,
societal changes and financial constraints, and dynastic issues. The end of these wars marked the
defeat of the English. Most of its land possessions including Normandy, Maine, and Bordeaux. And
they were lost leaving landowners and mercenaries with nothing to call their own. The triumphant
French wanted to show dominance and power over England. Lord Talbot was sent by Henry to set
Bordeaux free. Although he was successful, Henry neglected his call for reinforcement, giving the
French ample time to triumph in the Battle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outbreak of black plague claimed thousands of lives which in turn negatively affected the labor
force (Lewis 51). This led to severe inflation of agricultural products and labor prices resulting in
reduced production levels giving rise to grave famine. Also, the plague caused a change in social
order; minor landowners took over the land of the dead and instantly became upwardly mobile and
wealthy. The Treasury could not prevent the economic downfall of the country since most of the
finances were consumed by the French Wars making it bankrupt. These two issues gave rise to
numerous conflicts that led to the war (Neillands

Great Anthropocene Essay
A Great Anthropocene or a Utopia
An Eco modernist manifesto states that we need a good Anthropocene, which demands that humans
use their growing social, economic, and technological powers to make life better for people, stabilize
the climate, and protect the natural world (Page 7). In order to protect the natural world, we should
stay away from nature and give more land back to the nature world, instead of letting human society
goes along with nature in harmony. The new technologies would allow us to achieve much more from
a limited amount of land. Thus, humans have the opportunity to re wild and re green the Earth (Page
14) and will achieve a great Anthropocene.
I also deeply love and emotionally connected to the natural world, and I really hope what the
manifesto proposed could come true. I agree that by using new technologies, we can make what
impossible become possible, we can be more efficient, and we can allowing more room for non human
species (Page 18). However, I doubt that would happen, though I believe it could. First, it s not easy to
access these new technologies. Currently, they are not as cheap as the author described. Second, when
the new technologies fail, they might bring more significant disaster to the nature world. Third,
whether we can achieve a great anthropocene is more a humanity issue that a technology issue in my
view.
It s hard to get energy sources that are cheap, clean, dense, and abundant (Page 24), even with new
technologies. Human has been using solar energy for many years, but it s still not ... Show more

Blood Vessels Research Paper
1. Discuss the different types of blood vessels. Include the different layers composing blood vessels
(remember to include tissue types) in your discussion.
Blood vessels start to develop during the embryonic stage and continue through the life span. There
are more than 66,000 miles of vessels carrying blood through the body. Blood vessels consist of
arteries, capillaries, and veins. The walls of the arteries and veins consist of three separate layers
called the tunica externa (adventitia), tunica media, and the tunica intima. As blood vessels decrease in
diameter the thickness of the walls also decrease.
Arteries: Carry blood away from the heart and supplies blood to the tissues of the body. There are
several types.

They are known as the primary exchange vessels. Capillaries consist of a single layer of endothelium
and associated connective tissue. They carry blood from the arterioles to the venules. Transfer of
nutrients and other vital substances between blood and tissue cells occurs at or near a capillary. True
capillaries receive blood flowing out of the small arterioles. There are three different types found in
the human body: continuous, fenestrated, and sinusoid. The differences in each function has to do with
the location in the body.
Continuous Capillaries: Has a continuous lining of endothelial cells. Found in the skeletal muscle,
lung, and many types of connective tissue. They contain small openings called intracellular clefts
between the adjacent endothelial cells. Found in areas of the body such as the central nervous system,
skeletal muscles, and skin.
Fenestrated Capillaries: Contains intracellular clefts and small holes called fenestra. These vessels
allow small molecules as well, as limited amounts of nutrients, to pass through their walls. Most
commonly found in the endocrine system.
Sinusoid Capillaries: Contains a large lumen and a more winding tortuous course. The basement
membrane is either absent or incomplete. Found in the liver, spleen, bone marrow, and portions of the
endocrine system. It permits migration of blood cells

Protein Synthesis and Transcription
Beadle and Tatum s experiment and their one gene one enzyme hypothesis showed that the production
of one protein is dependent on one gene.
Francis Crick originated the idea of the central dogma. It states that biological information can only
flow in one direction: from DNA to RNA to a protein.
The three key types of RNA that are involved in protein synthesis are mRNA (messenger RNA),
rRNA (ribosomal RNA) and tRNA (transfer RNA). The way I learned to remember the functions of
these three is the same way it s shown on the estrellamountain website. mRNA is like the blueprint of
a construction site with its copy of the genetic information of DNA, rRNA is like the construction site
where the protein is made, and tRNA is like the delivery truck that brings amino acids to where they
need to be at the right time. Transcription is when RNA is formed by using an enzyme called RNA
polymerase to copy a strand of DNA. Before it can begin, a protein called a transcription factor has to
bind to the promoter (a region in the DNA that identifies where a gene starts, where it s supposed to be
copied, and in what direction). Then, the polymerase binds to these two things (promoter transcription
factor) before it unwinds the template strand of DNA between the promoter and the terminator. The
RNA polymerase copies the template strand of DNA by matching the original nucleotides with their
complementary base pairs the only difference is that instead of adenine being matched with thymine,

Amended independent Claim 1 includes the limitation of the impact pad including a frame contact
surface that matches a contour of the seat back frame. Applicants specification states, [t]he impact pad

Office Action, points to adjacent ribs (124) that extend from the pad body and define a contact surface.
However, Fox discloses an absorbing member (124) that includes a plurality of tabs (128). The tabs
(128) of absorbing member (124) disclosed by Fox are not the same as the support ribs (142) disclosed
in Applicants specification. Additionally, nowhere in Fox is it disclosed that the tabs (128) or the
absorbing member (124) define a frame contact surface. In this regard, Applicants respectfully assert
dependent Claim 2 is further allowable over Fox.
Amended independent Claim 10 is currently amended to include the limitation of an inner foam
surface being contoured to the seat back frame. Fox fails to disclose the above limitation. Instead, Fox
discloses foam blocks (A) in the corners of the seat back shell (B) between the seat back shell (B) and
the structural frame (C) (Col. 2, Lines 17 22; Fig. 25). Nowhere in Fox is it disclosed to have an inner
foam surface contoured to the seat back frame, as included in Applicants amended independent Claim
10. In this regard, Applicants respectfully assert amended independent Claim 10 is allowable over
Fox. Dependent Claims 11 15 depend from amended independent Claim 10, and for at least the reason
set forth above, are also allowable.

Analyzing the Fiscal Budget of the City of Ukiah and...
Introduction
This paper will analyse the 2013/14 Fiscal budgets the City of Ukiah and California City. I will
attempt to examine the similarities and differences of both these cites revenue and expenditure line
items in their budgets. The cities are similar in that they generate revenue from many of the same
resources and they have similar expenditures in their annual fiscal budget. However, the cities budgets
strategies are different because both these cities demographics, social, economic, political platform,
and historical characteristics guide both cities elected official s decisions during the budget process.
History
California City was incorporated on December 8, 1965 (City of California, 2013). Before the City was
incorporated, it was transformed from a vast area of natural desert and farmland open space, into a
new kind of living environment. In 1776, the first explorers in the City of California were Paiute
Indians under leadership of Father Francisco Grarces. During this time, the Conquistadores are
believed to have hired Paiute Indians to help conduct mining operations in the territory.
At the end of the century, sheep farming began at the Conklin Ranch, and today, this ranch is located
in the central portion of the City. Later, in the 1900s, the city was ineffective in its attempt to
manufacture cotton and grow alfalfa. In 1958, private land development activities begun when a group
of developers started purchasing land in the eastern portion of the city. By the

Business Partnership Case Study
As previously spoken about, it was made apparent that two issues have arisen regarding your business,
one being if a partnership may be formed with a volunteer and as to whether you are liable owing to
the conduct of one of your stall volunteers. Both situations in hand are relatively common, therefore
the law is well established on these matters. With respect to the first issue concerning a partnership
with Ms Jones, there are many routes one can take when setting up a business partnership. From what
is to be understood from our previous meeting, the partner in question is a volunteer who works on

business. As the law stands currently, you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seemingly, it may be advisable that both parties pay the same amount into the business, ensuring that
there are equal capital shares. A partnership agreement may occur either orally or in the formation of
written contract, which BTZ Garrett LLP solicitors would gladly draw up for you if a written contract
was needed. It may be suggested that this is the best route to take as all aspects of the business can be
clarified between both partners, ensuring a basis is covered. As a clarification, a partnership doesn t, in
the eyes of the law, only commence on a contractual or oral basis. An aspect used by Inland Revenue
to ascertain when a partnership commences is when a new bank account is opened. As stated before, a
general partnership divides all profits equally however, if needed it may be advisable at a later stage to
look into the accounts of your business to see whether profits have boosted since Ms Jones began her
volunteering. If profits have remained the same throughout the year to that of previous years, one
clause we could possibly look into would be, rather than having than equally divided partnership, a
70:30 percent ratio partnership, which may be the most beneficial to yourself in

Fear Of Vaccine Essay
In modern times with the rapid pace of vaccine development in recent decades, the historic origins of
immunization are often forgotten, leading people to underestimate the severity of the harm that
vaccinations prevent. The resistance to vaccinations is a well known occurrence, due to the positive
effects vaccinations have had we forget the tragic consequences of the past s fearsome infectious
disease such as smallpox. Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it, George
Santayana. Studying history is necessary to avoid repeating past mistakes. Despite overwhelming
evidence supporting the safety and benefits of vaccination, this fear has proven resistant to
information. Parents are increasingly questioning the safety of and need for vaccines as a result,
vaccination rates have fallen to dangerously low levels in certain communities. Recent outbreaks of
vaccine preventable diseases in the United States have drawn attention to this epidemic. While vaccine
acceptance remains high in general, fear of vaccines has grown dramatically in many developed
countries. In some communities, this fear has led to significantly increased rates of vaccine refusal
which are associated with increases in illness and death from vaccine preventable diseases. Given the
risk to the public health these perceptions produce, and consistent with well established legal
principles supporting government action to protect the common good, society has the right and

Quantum Leadership Vs. Leader Member Exchange Theory

However, such vulnerable collaboration can allow for conflict amongst systems. The QLT supports the

to the flexibility of this form of leadership, it seems unrealistic in terms of producing time sensitive

the diseases were hopeless because they knew that no one could help them. In the mid 1800s, animal

Verbal language is not the only means of communication. We can notice a person s emotions without
him saying anything because of non verbal language or body language he expressed. If we can
examine body language in human, then we are also able to observe non verbal language of animals. In
accordance to Charles Darwin in his book, The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals,
many of the non verbal reactions of human in expressing emotions are identical with those of animals
(Darwin, 1873). Thus, there is no reason that one, especially a scientist who has conducted a lot of

psychological pains caused by animal testing offends the tested animals welfare, alternative methods
must be used to replace animal testing.
Animal testing not only afflicts animals being used, but also our society. A lot of harsh protests and

Problems Associated With A Severe Phonological Disorder Essay
Kara lynn is a 3 year; 6 month old female presenting with a severe phonological disorder. Her results
from testing indicate that her speech intelligibility is significantly reduced due to multiple phoneme
collapses into /d/ of the following phonemes and consonant clusters: /p/, /g/, /k/, /s/, /z/, /θ/, /ð/,
/tr/,and /gr/. In addition, the use of multiple phonological processes, including: final consonant
deletion, initial consonant deletion, cluster reduction, vocalization, and deaffrication also significantly
contribute to her reduced intelligibility. Her speech intelligibility in known context was calculated to
be 64%, which is low for a child who is 3 years; 6 months(consider adding reference). Reduced
intelligibility can impact a child s ability to communicate wants and needs, making Kara Lynn s
speech intelligibility an area of need. Increasing Kara lynn s speech intelligibility will be the primary
target of treatment. The multiple oppositions approach with maximally distinct targets will be utilized
to treat Kara lynn s phoneme collapses into /d/. She collapses multiple phonemes into /d/ in word

The case of Tyler Clementi is a clear example of bullying.
Feldman (2012) has noted that male adolescents are five times more likely to commit suicide than
females, although females attempt suicide more often than males (P.365). Males use more lethal
methods than females. Adolescent males use firearms, hanging, or jumping from height as method of
suicide while females tend to commit suicide by overdosing on drugs and cutting themselves. Parents
who own guns at home must unload, lock, and keep this item out of adolescent reach as a preventive
action. Parents must also control all prescription drugs in the house because it is easy access for
teenagers to harm themselves.
Occasionally, some people try to kill themselves just by putting their lives in danger, and they use self
destructive behavior. Some behavior are drugs and alcohol abuse, overeating, self starvation, bulimia,
smoking, reckless driving, stunts and dares, promiscuity and sexual risk taking, and those actions can

symptoms that it displays. These symptoms focus on the cognitive impairment and abnormalities of
things such as perception, mood and even behavior. As time progresses deterioration of judgement and

Two of the most common myths that are widely known are memory loss, and family history. As I
explained above memory loss does take a key role in the diagnosis of Alzheimer s disease but it also
takes a role in other illnesses also. The association with memory loss is what it pertains to on a day to
day basis. If the individual is unable to do daily tasks that one was capable to do only weeks prior one
must look at all other aspects issues at hand. Other symptoms along with memory loss are compiled to
result in the diagnosis of Alzheimer s disease. In addition, family history does increase the risk of an
individual having Alzheimer s disease but it does not intentionally mean one has the disease
(Sounders). There are still many myths out there that scientists are debunking every day. So just
because you forgot to start the washing machine before going to bed, or left an ink pen in your shirt
pocket doesn t mean you have early onset Alzheimer s disease. However, if your maternal
grandmother had Alzheimer s disease and your mother is experiencing early onset symptoms of this
particular disease, it would not hurt to keep an eye on the risks factors on the early warning signs. Eat

Themes In The Necklace, By Guy De Maupassant
Introduction
The Necklace is a unique story, which serves as a lesson for all to learn; since life is unpredictable, we
ought to be content with what we have and who we are, no matter the circumstances. The story by
Guy De Maupassant, was well written and with clarity, transition from one scene to another was
brilliant, and speaks a volume about the significance of contentment. The story which talks about
Madame Loisel the wife of a clerk, and how her desire and greed to be like the upper class, led her and
her husband to ten years of rigid labor in order to replace the missing necklace she borrowed from a
friend to attend an extravagant party.
Theme
The theme that I observe in The Necklace , by Guy De Maupassant, is a pleasure seeking and
conceited wife of a clerk. The wife Mathilde who was married to a clerk that could not cater to her
elaborate life style created a for her a decent or luxury life due to scarcity can only imagine those

self indulgence, envy her rich friend (schoolmate) and decide not to pay her a visit since after going

missions. He was born on June 24, 1946 in Kealakua, Hawaii. As a child he picked coffee beans to
make money for his family. He went to the University of Colorado and was in their Air Force ROTC
program and studied aerospace engineering. Ellison Onizuka impacted space exploration by becoming
the first Asian American in space, working on the IUS on the Discovery mission, and the tragic fate of
the Challenger mission. Onizuka s first major accomplishment was becoming the first Asian American
in space. Onizuka became the first Asian American in space in January of 1985 when he joined the
crew of the Discovery for the shuttle program s first Department of Defense mission
(Encyclopedia.com, 2018). Onizuka was the type of person that never forgot where he came from. He
remembers being a little kid in Hawaii and dreaming of becoming an astronaut. He feels he can have
an impact on the next generation of young Hawaiians and minorities around the world. That they can
become something even when the odds seem low. The trip made him the first astronaut from Hawaii
as well as the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Onizuka was responsible for the primary payload activities, which included the deployment of a
modified Inertial Upper Stage (IUS) (Er.jsc.nasa.gov,2018). As a payload specialist he was in charge
of specific payloads, in this case the Inertial Upper stage which is a booster rocket that sends satellites
to deep space. This mission also included the first department of defense payload. With the completion
of this flight he logged 74 hours in space (Er.jsc.nasa.gov,2018). This included 48 orbits around the
Earth. Onizuka was in space for just over three days. It s fascinating to think that he has been
dreaming of this for his entire life and that he can do his job in

Why Writing Is Important To Me
I do not think of myself as a very good writer. I feel that my writing is always scrambled, and doesn t
quite flow like it should. I do like to write however, if the subject interests me. I would much rather
write about a topic that I know a lot about, and care about. If I was to write a paper about dragons, it
most likely would not be written very well because I don t care about that subject. I like to write
because it is something that I think can be fun. It also is a great way to express yourself in words. A
memorable writing assignment would be the DAR paper that I wrote in fifth grade. DAR stands for
Daughters of the American Revolution. DAR is a history writing competition. You write about an
assigned topic or time period and you make up a story that later gets judged. One of the reasons that
this specific writing assignment was so memorable to me is because I think that it was one of the best
papers that I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My writing never seems to go together like it should. To me almost all of my writing seems weak. I
always think that there is a lot more that I could have fixed. My writing would be so much better if I
knew what exactly it is that I want to change and how to change it. One of the main reasons that I
think my writing assignments aren t very good is because they aren t very creative. Even though I
think that my weaknesses outweigh my strengths I do have some strengths. Some of these would be
that I can easily follow the rubric and can usually get a good grade on my papers. I also think that I am
pretty good at the grammar and spelling part of writing assignments. One of my goals this year is to
become a more confident writer. If I could think that I am a good writer, it will probably show in my
writing pieces. I would also like to work on showing voice in my papers. Some of the goals that I have
as a writer in my life would be to learn to like my writing, and to become a better

  • 2. Specific Heat Of Calorimeter Lab Report John Yu Meyer AP Chem 9 October, 2016 In this experiment, hot water was mixed with room temperature water in a calorimeter to calculate the specific heat capacity of the calorimeter. The specific heat of the calorimeter was then used to find the enthalpy of sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid, ammonia and hydrochloric acid, and ammonium chloride and sodium hydroxide by mixing each, respectively, into the beaker after each other. The beaker was washed with distilled water after each reaction. The enthalpy of sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid and ammonia and hydrochloric acid were subtracted together to calculate the enthalpy of ammonium chloride and sodium hydroxide to prove Hess Law. The lab errors that occurred in this lab would be the heat escaping while the reactants were being added to the calorimeter because there is an opening and way for the heat to escape in that moment. This caused the reaction to lose heat and energy to the lab and cause the reaction to report less energy than there should be. Also, some of the heat was lost from the calorimeter because no perfect calorimeter can exist. This caused the reaction to lose energy as well. The reactants have not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This lab observed the Law of Energy Conservation that all the energy in the reactions was from the reactants breaking and forming new bonds. The Law of Energy Conservation was also observed when the energy lost as heat from the beaker was found in the calorimeter. In the calculations, Hess Law was tested and proved with adding the enthalpies of reaction two and three equalling the enthalpy of reaction one. This lab also observed endothermic reactions through neutralization and the forming of salts. Thermal equilibrium was observed temperature stabilizing in the calorimeter with the mixing of hot and cold water. Since the reactions were giving off heat, the enthalpy of the reactions were negative and the reactions are product ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Moral Obligation Of Affluent Individuals The question on whether affluent individuals have a moral obligation to assist the poor is a widely controversial subject, and this was even apparent in our very own ethical reasoning class. So the question still stands, is it our duty to assist the poor? The answer is much simpler than people make it out to be. Yes. While this answer is widely based of off my own opinion as well as those of Peter Singer, I am prepared to defend my answer not only with the Singers evidence but also with my own thoughts and motives. But I don t believe that only the rich should feel the moral obligation to assist the poor, I believe everyone should do whatever we can to help one another. I do not believe that people should be forced into helping one another by laws and government authorities, but instead that it is the simply the right thing to do. First off I am going to explain the details of Singers argument for the moral obligation of affluent individuals to assist the poor. Singer basis his argument off utilitarian grounds, so generally promoting whatever promotes the most happiness for the most people. Here are Singers three main premises. First, if we have the power to prevent something bad from happening without having to sacrifice too much then morally we should do it. Second, poverty is the number one source of human misery. And third, those who are well off have a moral obligation to help reduce poverty, but they do not necessarily have to sacrifice everything or anything of too ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Disadvantages Of Driverless Cars I m on my way! you tell your friend over the phone as you step into your car. I ll be there in half an hour! You sit down and buckle up, absentmindedly opening the alarm app on your phone. You set it to wake you up in thirty minutes, then relax into your seat, turn on the radio, and close your eyes. How is this possible? Technology has advanced incredibly quickly over the last hundred years, with developments such as the Internet and the smart phone. Along with this technology has come a lot of developments in the robotics industry. Robotic surgeons, controlled by professionals, have hands much steadier and more precise than a human could ever hope to mimick, increasing safety and decreasing recovery time for surgery patients. Most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sensors like these protect against most accidents already, and make up for any amount of human error that might put a driver in some amount of peril. The ultrasonic sensors tell the car whether or not there are bumps on the road, or if it s approaching a curb, something a human is not always capable of doing, and the lidar on top identifies lane markers and the edges of the road by bouncing light off of them. Sensors on self driving cars take out all the guess work usually involved in driving a car out of the equation. While all of these sensors work together to steer the car away from danger, occasionally, says Olivia Solon, data amassed by all the sensors can conflict with each other, resulting in a dangerous situation referred to as sensor fusion. This fusion of sensors has already resulted in a fatal crash involving a tester of a self driving Tesla car; the sensors produced conflicting data, and as a result mistook a truck for an overhead road sign, causing the car to run directly into the truck. Therefore, while these numerous sensors are instrumental to the driverless car, they are still in development and not yet safe to trust with human lives. GPS tracking and positioning is also incorporated into every automated car, for the self evident purpose of informing driver and car where they are and where they re going. Some cars ... Themes in Raymond Carver s Literature Essay Themes in Raymond Carver s Literature In Short Cuts, by Raymond Carver, characters experience trials and problems in their lives, whether extreme such as in A Small, Good Thing and Lemonade or nominal such as in Vitamins . They all seem to depict these struggles as uphill battles which the characters cannot and mostly do not overcome. The characters throughout Carver s Short Cuts struggle through their lives in private desperation, often to ultimately realize that they are bound to the truth of who they really are, which is shown in the story Neighbors. It is ultimately realized at the end that they are both doing more than feeding the cat when they go into the apartment. The Miller s searching through their neighbor s apartment is symbolic of their search for meaning in their own lives. Because they are not satisfied with the way they live, they project the Stones life onto their own, to the extent of pretending to live in their apartment, if only for one moment. Bill s fantasy of being like the Stone s may be shown by his actions of taking a bottle of Harriet s pills (14), and drinking and eating their food, with no qualms of invade his neighbors privacy (16). • 7. Ethnocentrism And Its Impact On Society Within Western Culture, ethnocentrism is passed down from one generation to the next. This can be seen in many ways through the development of anthropology. It is also seen in the context of spiritual life and faith which the Western view has been imposed on many people groups throughout the world. It was not until anthropology changed from being a comparison of culture, an armchair approach, to a more historical particularism approach that we have been able to better appreciate different cultures. Aside from anthropological work, this understanding is vital for Christians everywhere. From this new anthropological approach, we as Christians must turn away from ethnocentrism and appreciate the way God moves through cultural context, specifically studies of language and kinship, in order to have a better understand each other and of who God is. . To begin with, language is foundational in societies worldwide. Many societies embrace a language hierarchy, but there is no superiority in language. The Sapir Whorf hypothesis gives insight to the way people think and how language helps them experience the world around them. This closely relates to the way that people experience God and the faith. Language translates our ideas and beliefs to those around us in a way that they may be able to relate and receive some sort of understanding. The Sapir Whorf hypothesis seems ring true from reading the Old Testament in Hebrew. From reading the verses in Hebrew one gets a glimpse into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Self evaluation reflects sound clinical/assessment skills and a good grasp of pathophysiological conditions.) Clinical experiences in hospice and palliative care provided opportunity to view health care from the dichotomous spectrum of life and death, with understanding that not only should one be afforded a quality life, but also a quality and dignified death. An issue of contention for this clinician has always been the unilateral focus of medical care without attention to the psychological framework that governs physiological states. • 10. Gender Roles In Fantomina, By Eliza Haywood The 18th century was a time where there were very strong gender norms that were strictly followed. But in Eliza Haywood s Fantomina, those gender norms are challenged with the creation of a cunning, and manipulative female protagonist. We are given a text that empowers the main character, Fantomina, throughout the story and shows us a woman s power to exercise their control over men. As a women of a higher class, Fantomina would have been expected to follow a certain code of conduct and uphold a good reputation. However, her ability to deceive Beauplaisir shows her power over him, as well as her skill and intelligence. In the start of the story, Haywood places Fantomina in an unusual place for a woman of her standard to be, a playhouse. She is seen observing the actions of those around her in her box seat. By purposefully placing Fantomina above the men in her location at the playhouse, this represents her power over men who are in the pit seats below her. Men are casted as depraved and deeply judged by the eye of Fantomina. (227). By allowing us to see the story from her perspective, Haywood furthers the division between men and women by showing the power that Fantomina currently holds while also foreshadowing the power she will gain by observing others and learning different mannerisms, such as those of a prostitute. Haywood s use of female power is continued throughout the novella through gender politics. Beauplaisir believes that he has asserted his dominance and is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Benito Mussolini, AKA Il Dulce Benito Mussolini, known as Il Duce, was the founder of the totalitarian form of government known as Fascism. However that was not enough recognition; Mussolini wanted to demonstrate to the world that he could be a successful ruler as well. Mussolini came to power and remained in power primarily due to the actions of the Italian Blackshirts. As the Blackshirts maintained law and order, terrorized political opponents, defended Italy, and marched on Rome, Mussolini successfully ruled as dictator. Controlled and led by Mussolini, the Italian Blackshirts also known as the Squadre d Azione, were made up of war veterans and young people led by ringleaders. The Blackshirt uniform consisted of a green jacket and trouser with a black shirt and tie. The green colors were similar to that of the army uniforms, but the black shirt and tie differentiated the Blackshirts from the other combat forces. The Blackshirts were first created on March 23, 1919 and played a vital role in the rule of Mussolini. Benito Mussolini s rise to power primarily relied on the Blackshirts march on Rome. On October 24, 1922, Mussolini hosted a Fascist convention in Naples as the reason for the March on Rome. There he declared, Either the government will be given to us, or we will seize it by marching on Rome. Mussolini s plan was to threaten to occupy the nation s capital of Rome with his forces, the Blackshirts, and pressure King Victor Emmanuel III into inviting him into the government. ... • 17. Intercultural Competency Paper Developing cultural competency is not always easy and it is not something that one acquires through birth. Instead, it is a developmental process that is nurtured over time. While the growth process may start off with a memorized list of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors that one is supposed to follow, true intercultural competence evolves when behaviors are internalized and occur naturally because they feel right (Medina López Portillo, 2004, p. 315). Stress, anxiety, and difficulties are sometimes signs that an individual is making progress towards cross cultural deepening (Stephenson, 2002, p. 99). At an extreme, when individuals are overwhelmingly stressed in a new cultural environment, their failure to adapt is expressed at times by emotional and physical health issues (Li et al., 2013). The measurement of an individual s intercultural competence is a complex challenge. The literature references numerous assessment tools that have emerged over time but it would be difficult to identify any one particular tool as the best and there seems to be little agreement on what dimensions of intercultural learning should be tested (Deardorff, 2011; El Ganzoury, 2012; Godwin Jones, 2013). The seed of the wars of the roses, the first of England s two civil wars which saw the ruling Plantagenet family ruin itself in a struggle for the Crown, were planted in the dank dungeons of Pontefract Castle, Yorkshire, 55 years before the first clash of arms ever took place, Their civil strife and violence gave rise to the Tudor government.(Lewis 47) These wars were between the House of York and the House of Lancaster from 1455 to 1485. The names of these wars were allocated several years after the two conflicting parties had come to an agreement. The three primary causes of these wars include unsolved conflicts from the Hundred Years War, societal changes and financial constraints, and dynastic issues. The end of these wars marked the defeat of the English. Most of its land possessions including Normandy, Maine, and Bordeaux. • 23. Protein Synthesis and Transcription Beadle and Tatum s experiment and their one gene one enzyme hypothesis showed that the production of one protein is dependent on one gene. Francis Crick originated the idea of the central dogma. It states that biological information can only flow in one direction: from DNA to RNA to a protein. The three key types of RNA that are involved in protein synthesis are mRNA (messenger RNA), rRNA (ribosomal RNA) and tRNA (transfer RNA). The way I learned to remember the functions of these three is the same way it s shown on the estrellamountain website. mRNA is like the blueprint of a construction site with its copy of the genetic information of DNA, rRNA is like the construction site where the protein is made, and tRNA is like the delivery truck that brings amino acids to where they need to be at the right time. Transcription is when RNA is formed by using an enzyme called RNA polymerase to copy a strand of DNA. Before it can begin, a protein called a transcription factor has to bind to the promoter (a region in the DNA that identifies where a gene starts, where it s supposed to be copied, and in what direction). Then, the polymerase binds to these two things (promoter transcription factor) before it unwinds the template strand of DNA between the promoter and the terminator. The RNA polymerase copies the template strand of DNA by matching the original nucleotides with their complementary base pairs the only difference is that instead of adenine being matched with thymine, ... If we can examine body language in human, then we are also able to observe non verbal language of animals. In accordance to Charles Darwin in his book, The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals, many of the non verbal reactions of human in expressing emotions are identical with those of animals (Darwin, 1873). Thus, there is no reason that one, especially a scientist who has conducted a lot of experiments with animals, does not know whether an animal is suffering from mental pain or not. As psychological pains caused by animal testing offends the tested animals welfare, alternative methods must be used to replace animal testing. Animal testing not only afflicts animals being used, but also our society. A lot of harsh protests and terrorism have been done against animal testing. Those actions have caused many public losses. Plenty of innocent people have died; many unrelated private companies have been accidentally involved in the damaging acts, and numerous public facilitations have been ruined in those actions which are usually conducted by animal lovers organizations.
