Self-Targeting Sniper Rifle
At this years Black Hat hacker conference, security researchers, Runa Sandvik and Michael Auger,
will demonstrate how they are able to exploit the vulnerabilities of a self targeting sniper rifle to
change the scope s variables when planning out a shot, and even bricking the rifle altogether.
Sandvik and Auger Plan to Hack a Pair of $13,000 TrackingPoint Rifles
Sandvik and Auger are a married hacker couple and have spent a year researching a way to hack
into these smart rifles. The techniques allow a knowledgeable hacker to exploit its sight through Wi
Fi.
Once the rifle has been infected, a hacker can then use software to manipulate a scope s
calculations, disable the scope completely, or just prevent the gun from firing entirely. In a... Show

An attacker can lock a user out, preventing them from using the gun, or completely erase the gun s
file system. This would essentially render the scope useless, leaving the shooter to have to aim
manually.
The file system in TrackingPoint s self aiming system is a vital part of the scope. The system
allows a shooter to designate a target, which tells the computer to begin dialing in variables needed
to make an accurate shot. It s important to note that the gun will not fire until the shooter has pulled
the trigger. Once the trigger is pulled, the gun will then determine when the best time to fire is and
take the shot when the barrel is perfectly aligned.
TrackingPoint Are Already Working on an Upcoming Patch to Address the Exploit
Fortunately, Sandvik and Auger are working together with TrackingPoint in order to develop a
software patch that will quickly address the smart rifle s severe vulnerability. While it s not ready
yet, TrackingPoint founder, John McHale, said the company would be mailing out a USB drive to
customers in order to update their rifles as soon as

Using The Credit Line Tied Down T Bill Rate
Answer 1.
I plan to use the credit line tied to the 3months T bill rate. In loanable funds market which
borrowers (my firm) demand funds and lenders supply them. The price in this market is interest rate.
Scenario a The growth rate of GDP in the U.S is expected to increase
Since there is an expectation on the U.S GDP to increase, this means the increasing labor force in
the market that indirectly increases the consumption and investments. May be the government s
spending potential is also increasing. These factors would create more demands in the loanable
funds market. So the demand and supply in the loanable funds market determines the interest rates.
The following exhibit 1a shows when demand is weak (D1) and the real interest rate low ... Show

Real interest rate = Nominal Interest Rate Inflationary premium
Exhibit 1b illustrates how inflation influences nominal interest rates. We consider a 3% market
interest rate as a stable price. Assume the expected rate of inflation is zero, there will be no
inflationary premium; under these conditions the nominal interest rate is equal to the real interest
rate. Now there is an expectation of inflation goes higher, forecasted 2% inflation, so the real
interest rate now becomes to 1% (based on the real interest rate formula). This case I am better off
my firm s future financing cost if I use the credit line.
Usually it is not going to work that way. When lenders expect inflation, they will be pushing the
interest rate upward by the expected inflation. This case the nominal interest rate is going to be 5%
and the real interest rate would become 3%. Lenders may not always forecast the future rate of
inflation accurately. If the inflation is higher than was expected then my firm will gain. On the
other hand if the inflation rate is less than anticipated then lenders will gain. Therefore, no reason
why the inflation will help either my firm or lenders.
Answer 2:
Answer 4:
According to the text book the law of demand states that there is an inverse relationship between
the price of a good or service and the quantity of it that consumers are willing to purchase . That
being said, in general the demand curve will be in a downward slope.

Speech On Self Evaluation
Speech to Explain: Self Evaluation
For this speech I choose to have my topic be something I have a strong personal connection to
which was Rave culture, its history and practices. Choosing this to be my topic of choice I was
able to be motivated in researching it and I believe my genuine interest in the topic showed in my
presentation. In this self eval I will be discussing the structure and style along with what I am
taking away from this speech.
First, I will be talking about the structure of my speech. When doing a speech to explain, like any
other speech it s important to have a clear and organized pattern. Essentially when creating my
outline for the speech I had made sure to have a clear and engaging intro and hook, meant to
clearly state my theme and then jump into the topic. Unfortunately when presenting the speech I
was unable to present my introduction as I would have liked and forgot to even mention my
theme. I was not very effective in my introduction but knowing so at my conclusion I was sure to
clearly state my theme. However,I believe my concluding sentence could have been more clear. To
improve I should in the future reinstate my topics and go over key points and leave the audience
with psychological closure rather than abruptly saying that was all, thank you .
I felt that it would have been beneficial for me to use more visual aids in presenting my topic.
Rather than just talking about my topic and the music, I feel that if I showed some actual footage

Tackling Environmental Pollution with Green Taxes
Introduction Green taxes were introduced objectively to tackle environment pollutions. According
to (Fullerton, Leicester, Smith, 2008), taxes on things such as Landfill, industrial energy use (the
climate change levy), aggregate levy, motor fuel differentiation, vehicle exercise duty differentiation
and central London congestion charge had either been introduced or reformed in the past 20 years
to tackle environmental pollution. These taxes are called Green Taxes or Environmental Taxes.
Global warming has brought a big concern on environmental issues in many countries, including
U.K. Different studies have suggested the need for swift and urgent actions to alleviate the possible
costs of climate change. Introducing taxes so called environmental taxes, changes trade permits and
other economic measures might play an important role to achieve cost effective control of
greenhouse gas emissions (Stern, 2007)
Figures from Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that U.K government collected
ВЈ41.4billions from environmental taxes in the year 2010 (Office for National Statistics, 2011),
rising up to 4.8% in comparison to 2009. This implies that environmental tax revenues have
increased exponentially year on year basis, causing doubts to consumers mind on two aspects. (a)
Do environmental taxes benefit the government or consumers?. (b) Are there alternatives to
environmental taxes?. In answering the two questions, this report will review the literature of

Narrative Voice In The Turn Of The Screw By Henry James
A simple fact of literature is that a story simply cannot be told without the presence of a nar rator.
This textual voice literally narrates the story and therefore wields the power to influ ence it in
many ways. Sometimes, it is not what the narrator reveals that is important, but what is left out.
Writers can use the different aspects of narration to make their point more efficiently and it is
therefore an obvious focus point when it comes to interpreting a text. Henry James The Turn of the
Screw has for several reasons been in literary critics spotlight and this essay focuses on the changes
in narrativevoice taking place in the introduction along with the first three chapters of the story with
some final comments on their relation to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We get no comments from the original narrative voice whatsoever and the story being told is left
solely to the reader to interpret since the whole novella ends inside the frame of the creepy story
being told. This leaves many questions unanswered and is unor dinary for any novella at the very
least. The unsettling events of the tale, however, ask the obvious question of whether the reader can
truly trust the woman s letters as factual. Perhaps, she was merely imagining everything. The
possibility of an unstable mind cannot be left out and this damages her credibility as a narrator. In
addition, since the transcript of the story has travelled through several hands, it can have been
altered. This seems unlikely, though, since the transcript surely would have been affected by
Douglas knowledge of both prior and sub sequent events that would have given the story an almost
omniscient narrator which it far from has. It faithfully remains restricted to the governess point of
view. She, however, tells the events as she recalls them, not as they occur, and even though the
original first person narrator seems to know the manuscript s recipient, we actually do not know
whether we can trust him either. Really, the novella as a whole taunts the reader with uncertainness
in both the story s events but also truly through its

The Influence Of The D-Day Invasion
D Day is an important day in history for all countries involved in World War II, it marked the
turning point in the war for the Allies victory. Many modern movies and people focus on the
amphibious landings onto the beaches of Normandy. Although the paratroopers of D Day are not
as idolized, they played an important and influential role in the outcome of D Day. One area of
discrepancy between experts is how well paratroopers performed on D Day. Although paratroopers
had many obstacles and setbacks, they played a crucial role in the success of the D day invasion.
World War II was a war fought between the Axis powers (Germany, Japan, and Italy) and the Allied
powers (United States, Soviet Union, Britain, France, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and
China) between the years 1939 and 1945. During the war around sixty million civilians and
military personnel were killed. The war was fought mainly on two fronts: The Pacific Theater and
the European Theater. Germany surrendered on May 7 1945 and Japan only lasted four more
months (Willmont et al., 2004).
D Day was an Allied invasion, planned for Normandy, code named Operation Overlord, that took
place on June 6 1944. The invasion was a combination of an Amphibious landing forces as well as
an airborne force that parachuted behind enemy instillations and defenses to capture roads from the
beachheads and enemy instillations (Willmont et al., 2004).

The Word Voodoo Means Spirit Of The West African
The word voodoo means spirit in the West African. It is a religion practiced by much Haitian
living in Haiti as well as the Diaspora. For the majority of Haitians, it is a symbol of solidarity of
how they stood up and fought for their rights and freedom. For others, it is a painful source of
reminder of how their ancestors were cruelly and unjustly treated by the Europeans.Even though the
slaves were forced to convert to the Roman Catholic Christianity by missionaries, they continue to
practice their faith. As a result, the voodoo is born out of the intermingling of beliefs and practices
of African culture and the Catholicism. Nowadays the voodoo plays important role in different
integrals politically and socially. In 1676, when the French colonized this Island, they possessed
vast land, fields, pastures and garden. They needed cheap labor for the grueling work, especially in
those sugars plantations. The slave system has already existed in the 16th century.
Upon their arrival, the owners stripped them of their fundamental human rights. They exploited
their skills and forbade practicing their traditional beliefs. The Europeans look down on African
beliefs as primitive and savage. They did not accept those beliefs as a genuine religion. As a result,
they baptized those poor souls as real Christians. Those slaves continued to practice their faith at
their peril. If they get caught, they were punished by lashing, imprisonments, and sometimes death.

The Olympic Games Of The United States Essay
In 1896, the Olympic Games were officially reborn into the modern era thanks to a Frenchman
named Baron Pierre de Coubertin (Lewis, 1992). In 1904, the Games of the III Olympiad arrived
in the United States, marking itself as the first Olympics to be held in said country as well as the
first hosted outside of Europe. Often forgotten, this specific Olympics also signifies the beginning
of the horrible luck Chicago, Illinois, has had regarding the hosting rights. With four losses under
its belt and a history of bad news, Chicago is frequently told to no one s surprise that it should
simply give up on its dream and focus on improving itself. However, who s to say that the Jewel of
the Midwest can t do both? By incorporating a well thought out narrative of what the city has gone
through into their appeal process, Chicago could very well win the bid next time around whenever
that might be. The city boasts an efficiently compact setting; a history and love of sports that
entices amiable relations between residents; and an enthralling tale to tell. Overall, Chicago can use
its need for a strong community to reach the top of the podium in the rigorous battle for host city
status. A point often overlooked, the city technically won the hosting rights once.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded the city the right to host the third Olympics
in 1904. Be that as it may, those games did not take place in Chicago as planned. Instead, Saint
Louis, Missouri, captured the rights

The Cognitive Interview and Eyewitness Credibility
The Cognitive Interview and Eyewitness Credibility My Initial Hypothesis Hypothesis: The
cognitive interview increases the credibility of eyewitness testimony by decreasing memory error
and confabulations. Information is the lifeblood of a criminal investigation. The ability of
investigators to obtain useful and accurate information from eyewitnesses of crimes is crucial to
effective law enforcement, yet full and accurate recall is difficult to achieve (Stewart, 1985). Such
elicitation of complete and accurate recall from people is important in many aspects of life;
specifically, eyewitness recall may determine whether a case is solved. Principle advocates of the
cognitive interview (Fisher, Geiselman, Holland MacKinnon,... Show more content on

However, the effectiveness of context reinstatement in cognitive interviewing must consider the
extent to which mental reinstatement of context may be effective (Bull Memon, 1991). A study
conducted by Bekerian, Dennett, Hill and Hitchcock (1990) classified imaged details into two
types: molar details which include the placement of people, environmental factors and physical
appearances; and molecular details which include the specificity of the information being imagined.
The results indicated a significant increase in recall following imagery instructions, also reporting a
proportional increase in errors. In summation, the picture that one obtains from an overview of the
context is not reliable, and the combination of different context reinstatement procedures do not aid
in the context of the recognition of suspects from photographs (Bekerian et al., 1990). This method,
too, does not necessarily improve the credibility of eyewitness accounts, nor does it even decrease
memory error and confabulations. My Current Opinion While the cognitive interview does prove to
be effective in increasing the amount of accurate information elicited from witnesses of crimes, it
does not necessarily increase the credibility of eyewitness testimony by reducing memory error and
confabulations. The cognitive interview has been shown to elicit more information than the
standard interview, but the two types do not differ on incorrect information or confabulations

Varsity Show Choir
I almost got kicked from the vocal program. Well, not exactly, but in the moment I felt as if my
world was falling apart. Before I knew it, I was in a technical varsity show choir and an on level
show choir at the same time. At first I couldn t handle it all but now it has become second nature
with me and I ve been able to make countless friends doing it.
It all started when I tried out for show choir in September, I had no idea what vocal was about to
do to me and I didn t know what show choir was before freshman year. All I know from first
impression is that the entire music building smelt like a locker room once you got close to the

ten minutes. After about ten minutes, my mother continued talking. That s a very big honor,
son, with you being a freshmen . That made me feel even more proud of myself on the inside.
Did you ask about what you ll have to do or when you go to practice for them Said my mom. No,
I was so caught up with her offering it to me that I was racing to get home and tell you guys, and
it was only 9 in the morning . slowly realizing that there might be more in store for me once I

walked to my teacher to let her know I said yes to the offer. Awesome she said But that means that
you ll have to stay in the show choir we ve already put you in, and you ll have to go to the practices
for Trojanaires . That s when every responsibility hit me like a truck. Cool, I can t wait . The only
reason I agreed was because I had already said and if I backed out on the spot, then it would show

Description Of Alice In Wonderland Syndrome
Imagine, you are nine years old, and you re on a trip to Disneyland with your family. It s your
turn to choose a ride to go on and you desperately want to go on the Alice in Wonderland ride.
You get in line and you wait for what feels like ages. Finally, you re up next to go on the ride;
you and your mom step into the caterpillar shaped cart and the safety bar comes down so it is
now resting on top of your lap. The cart suddenly jerks forward and you are sent into the ride at
full speed. You see ginormous flowers, teacups that are larger than your house, chairs that are
the size of salt shakers, and doors that only a mouse could fit through! When the ride finishes,
you are completely disoriented, and you have no idea what the correct sizes of the objects that
you are seeing around you should be. What if some people felt like this every single day? What
you experienced was much like the symptoms of Todd s Syndrome, more commonly known as
Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. This syndrome was first recorded in 1955 by a British
psychiatrist by the name of John Todd. He named it Alice in Wonderland Syndrome because of the
symptoms that the patient s experiences are much like what Alice experienced in the book Alice in
Wonderland written by Lewis Carroll. It is thought that Lewis Carroll suffered from this
neuropsychological condition hence the vivid distortions pictured in his book. Since being
discovered in 1955, only 170 case descriptions have been published by doctors, so

Distributed Lag Model For Money Supply And Price...
CHAPTER EIGHT DISTRIBUTED LAG MODEL FOR MONEY SUPPLY AND PRICE
RELATIONSHIP 8.1 Distributed Lag Model The economic variable Y is affected by not only the
value of X at the same time t but also by its lagged values plus some disturbance term i.e.X_t,X_(t
1),X_(t 2).....,X_(t k),Оµ_t.this can be written in the functional form as: гЂ–Y_t=f(XгЂ—_t,X_(t
1),X_(t 2).....,X_(t k),Оµ_t) In linear form, Y_t=О±+ОІ_0 X_t+ОІ_1 X_(t 1)+ОІ_2 X_(t
2)+в‹Ї+ОІ_j X_(t k)+Оµ_t (8.1) Where, ОІ_0 is known as the short run multiplier, or impact
multiplier because it gives the change in the mean value of Y_t following a unit change of X_tin
the same time period. If the change of X_t is maintained at the same level thereafter, then,
(ОІ_0+ОІ_1) gives the change in the mean value of Y_t in the next period, (ОІ_0 + ОІ_1+ОІ_2) in
the following period, and so on. These partial sums are called interim or intermediate multiplier.
Finally, after k periods, that is =ОІ, therefore ∑в
–’ОІ_i is called the long run multiplier or total
multiplier, or distributed lag multiplier. If we define the standardized ОІ_i^* = ОІ_i/(∑в
–’ОІ_i )
then it gives the proportion of the long run, or total, impact felt by a certain period of time. In
order for the distributed lag model to make sense, the lag coefficients must tend to zero as kпѓ п‚Ґ.
This is not to say that пЃў2 is smaller than пЃў1; it only means that the impact of X_(t k)on Y_t
must eventually become small as k gets large. The distributed lag plays

you do a turn and take a free fall down a hill. Then you continue to speed up as you do another

After the loop you use momentum to do a sharp turn and go up two tiny hills. Finally, you reach

Effects Of Pollution On The Chinese Economy
poverty can be clearly seen. Southern climate change forces farmers to migrate which directly
contributes to the level of poverty and adds to the suffering of the poor. Traditionally, these
individuals would at least be able to survive through farming and growing their own food but in
urban areas these individuals will be unable to grow their own food. Collier asserts that the poorest
states are in need of rapid economic growth which creates tension between povertyreduction and the
perversion of nature. This is most evident in China where their desire to grow economically has
come at the price of pollution. While China has grown exponentially economically and have
reduced poverty, this growth is not sustainable due to their negligence of the environment. The level
of pollution in major cities has hurt the Chinese economybecause individuals are refusing to do
business there due to health concerns. This effects Chinese businesses and their tourism industry.
More times than not, states will choose economic growth, however, in the long run this choice will
negatively impact their economy. The relationship between the aforementioned factors have had an
adverse effect on the ability of international institutions to eradicate the issues of climate change
and poverty. States act in their own self interest and most often they either do not care or cannot
see the long term effects of their economic practices. Plunder has been seen to occur most often in

Transgender In The Military
Transgender in the Military
Being a part of the United States military is easier said than done. To become a part of the military,
it takes extreme levels of strength both physically and mentally. Each member must be at their
highest potential in order to effectively complete each mission. Each member of the military should
have no medical or mental distractions, because this may harm the effectiveness of the mission, or
even the member.
There are countless factors that may disqualify a person from being a part of the United States
military due to mental or physical conditions. Each member is greatly appreciated for their service
to this country regardless of their race, religion, or sexual preferences, but are transgender
individuals mentally and physically fit to fight?
When arriving to basic military training in hopes to become a part of the military, each person is
first separated into groups based on whether they are a male or female. These are the groups that
each person will spend the entirety of their time in basic military training with. With these groups,
they will eat, sleep, shower, work out, and complete numerous other activities. It is not easy to get
used to showering and changing in front of fifty other people, even if they are the same gender. If a
transgender individual was placed into the mix, this would make those activities even more
uncomfortable for others, and that same individual would feel out of place. Recruits in basic

adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather,
it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of
great worth in God s sight. God does not look on the outside of someone to use them; He looks
on the inside of a beautiful heart and works through it. Good morals have been shown to me
through my parents and the Bible, and I plan to keep those morals for my life. I try my hardest
to stay true to who I am. I sometimes stray off the path but it is not long until I find myself back

How Did The Second Industrial Revolution Affect Society
The Second Industrial Revolution tremendously helped our society become what it is today. Before
it occurred, the universe was believed to work like a machine. It has reshaped society through the

inventions that hurt society. Although the Second Industrial Revolutionhas led to poor thoughts, it
has made our society extremely advanced because of new social thoughts, inventions made by

Essay on A Perfect Day For Bananafish By J.D. Salinger
A Perfect Day For Bananafish
By J.D. Salinger
A Perfect Day For Bananafish was written in 1948 by the American writer Jerome David Salinger.
This was just three years after the ending of World War II, where Salinger was stationed in Berlin,
Germany. From further analysis of the short story I have come to the conclusion that Seymour is
Salinger s role model. Seymour has just returned from World War II, as well as Salinger had when
he wrote the story. Seymour returns to his native country very confused, dysfunctional and with
some psychic issues.
From the conversation between Muriel and her mother, we acknowledge that Seymour didn t act
normally after he has returned from the war. He destroyed all those lovely pictures from Bermuda

Muriel, Seymour s wife, and her parents, are representing the kind of America the soldiers in
World War II return to. They are unaware of what exactly has taken place and what kinds of
unexplainable cruelties these soldiers have experienced. On top of that, Muriel and her mother
seem very self centered and extremely shallow, which doesn t make it any better for Seymour to
return to, even though they seem to show great concern for him and his kind of behavior. For
example, we are being told about Muriel that she was a girl who for a ringing phone dropped
exactly nothing. She looked as if her phone had been ringing continually ever since she had reached
puberty.
Muriel s mother is also extremely concerned for Muriel because now Seymour has some psychic
problems, she sees him as some loony maniac. In spite of this, we know how Seymour behaves in
the episode on the beach with Sybil, and Muriel s beliefs about Seymour are therefore somehow
not entirely correct, even though Seymour does act like one in the elevator on his way back to his
hotel room.
To explain the tragic ending it s important to know that Salinger, at the time he wrote the story,
showed great interest in Zen attitudes. According to Zen attitudes suicide is not a failure, but a
triumph, which

The Struggle Of Survival By Sherman Alexie
The Struggle of Survival
Imagine growing up in a place where everyone is poor, there is only one road going through the
town, one school, and one store. Now imagine having a tragic ancestral history of people who
were taken advantage of, massacred, and forced into the slums of society. For the people who
live in this place, this means there are little to no resources or opportunities to prosper and make a
better life. Also everyone there is being dragged down by a history of abuse and these misfortunes
are still affecting them in present day. The book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by
Sherman Alexie follows a young Indian boy through his experiences on an Indian reservation. in the
short stories Alexie demonstrates the good, the bad, and the ugly of what goes on native
American reservations. There is a deep longing of men to be warriors, because they have a need to
get ahead of their tragic history, and survive the harsh societies that try to keep them down, as
second class citizens.
Native Americans are constantly trying to escape their tragic history. The short story Every Little
Hurricane observes a typical night for a young native American boy on an Indian reservation. he
describes the adults surrounding him getting drunk and being reckless. towards the end of This
night the boy describes a significant moment when his uncle and father have a drunken petty fight.

The Role Of Fate And Fate In Oedipus The King
Introduction:
In Oedipus king wrote by the dramatist and philosopher Sophocles, Oedipus is the only
responsible of his destiny. Oedipus was the one who held his fate and destiny in his hands. Because
of his actions that he made, the curse that he swore and the prophecy about him, he had to be
punished for his actions and sins.
Body paragraph 1
The most important thing about the destiny of Oedipus is the Prophecy about what he will become
because it where the novel start.
Oedipus is not innocent for his action at law and does in fact bear the responsibleness for the
outcomes that his action at law have caused him to endure.
In Hellene mythology, the future of someone is usually predetermined by the fate and prophecies.
The role of prognostication is very important in Hellene mythology and it mimics the beliefs of

Because one s fate is already predetermined, Oedipus Rex could not have escaped the

Although Oedipus King cannot ascendancy what his future tense entail, he can control how he

Rather than boldly accepting his predetermined fate, Oedipus cowardly tries to run away from his

This article was attempting to prove a point, didn t necessarily have the data to back it up. The
credentials in this piece were both creditable, but possibly for the wrong motivation. Two of the
main sources for this claim piece were sports drinks, Gatorade, and Lucozade; this makes the
article partially biased towards sports drinks. With that being the case, this article also had
references from American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) giving some credibility to their

this do stand to make some money. Overall, there is some personal belief with this piece of writing

Titanic Case Analysis
Titanic Case Analysis
Estate of Hans Jensen vs. The White Star Line
Facts:
The White Star Line was owner of the Titanic, which was the largest and most luxurious ship in the
world at the time. On April 10th, 1912, the Titanic left from Southampton, England with 2,227
passengers aboard bound for New York City. On April 14th, the ship struck an iceberg off the coast
of Newfoundland and sank about 2 ВЅ hours later. Passengers, mostly women and children, were
loaded into lifeboats, however only 705 passengers survived as many lifeboats left partially full.
Hans Peder Jensen and his fiancГ© Carla Christine Jensen were passengers from Denmark on the

The first element of negligence is duty of care. According to the plaintiff, White Star Line, which
owns and operates Titanic, owes a duty of care to all of the passengers on the ship. All of the
passengers relied upon White Star Line to take them to New York safely. Therefore, the crew on
Titanic owed duty of care to not only provide food and comfort, but more importantly safety to the
passengers. Breach of duty occurs when defendant s action has created risk of harm to others. In
this case, the plaintiff believes that the crew of the Titanic behaved in unreasonable manner in
many ways. The actions of the crew members resulted in the Titanic struck a large iceberg and
eventually sank causing large casualties, so the duty of care was breached.
Whether the breach of duty has caused the plaintiff s injury is the third element of negligence.
Requirements for causation are causation in fact and proximate cause. Causation in fact is
determined by the but for test, which means if it was not for the defendant s breach of duty, harm
or injury would not have occurred. Proximate cause is when the connection between the action
(breach of duty) and the injury is strong enough to impose liability. Another issue that needs to be
considered is foreseeability because the defendant s action must have created a foreseeable risk of
injury. In this case, the crew of Titanic was navigating the ship during the night at high rate of
speed in water with

Gang Life By Robert J. Duran Essay
The book, Gang Life in Two Cities by Robert J. DurГЎn to put simply is about the gang life in
Denver, CO and Ogden, UT. DurГЎn wrote this book to share his research findings. When DurГЎn
had to move to Huntsville, UT (but went to school in Ogden) he found himself immersed in an
area where gangs were becoming popular. DurГЎn, an ex gangmember himself was curious on
how and why gangs operate. He found this research important, because he saw firsthand how
society had a role in the formation of gangs. Duran felt that it needed to be brought to light what he
witnessed while being a gang member himself and when he conducted his research. This book was
different than other literature that had been produced, because Duran was able to get closer and
inspect the deeper characteristics of gang life and gang members themselves. This is something that
other researchers in the field are typically not able to accomplish. He took on the perspective of
investigating what role racial oppression had with the development of gangs. His perspective and
his ex gang membership background allowed him to be more trusted by all the gang members that
he interviewed for this research. As mentioned previously Duran did conduct interviews as part of
his data collection, but this wasn t his full methodology. Duran used a multimethodological
approach termed ethnography. Ethnography method allowed Duran to gather historical analysis,

The Bretton Woods System On The World s Natural Riches
Nature has always played an important role in human history. Increase in international trade,
globalization and creation of big corporations caused negative impact on the environment. The new
economic framework established after the end of the World War II benefited the interests of the
multinational corporations. The Bretton Woods systemwas aimed to boost the production and
consumption of commodities. The World Bank and the IMF, led by the US, financed corporations
and exploitation of resources. The Bretton Woods system was supposed to make use of the world s
natural riches. The fall of Communism in the world gave more power to the corporations and led to
the creation of the free market system. The US government tried to help underdeveloped nations to
export wood, livestock and other commodities to industrialized countries.
The establishment of new financial institutions helped the public works projects to rise. One of
the examples of these projects was the Tennessee River Valley in 1933. The government
constructed 20 dams and coal fired power plants with a purpose to provide electricity to poor
areas. Although the project provided many benefits, it also created a quite few ecological
concerns. Construction of dams flooded to many areas. Mining of coal caused pollution and
erosion. The same situation was evident across the globe. Thailand has built 26 irrigation and
hydroelectric projects since 1957. Most of them were financed by the World Bank. The country

The Presence Of Rat Model Of Parkinson s Disease Induced...
The present study was established to show revealed the presence of neurochemical and
histopathological changes in the cerebellum of rat model of Parkinson s disease induced by the
intrastriatal injection of rotenone. This may change the strategy of the disease treatment that
depends mainly on the restoration of dopaminelevels in the basal ganglia.
The present findings showed the development of hyperexcitability in the cerebellum of rat model of
PD induced by intrastriatal injection of rotenone. This was indicated from the significant increase in
the excitatory amino acid neurotransmitters; glutamate and aspartate and the significant decrease
in the inhibitory amino acids; GABA, glycine and taurine. These neurotransmitters are involved in
many functions such as motor behavior, cognition, and emotion (Ottersen and Storm Mathisen,
1986, Schmidt et al., 1992)1,2. The balance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission is
important for brain to sustain proper neuronal function (Mel et al., 2004)[1]. Perturbation in
glutamatergic and GABAergic neurotransmission is associated with several neurological and
psychiatric disorders (Sanacora et al., 2004) (3) [glutamate gaba balance 1].

So often, the old adage, History always repeats itself, rings true due to a failure to truly confront
the past, especially when the memory of a period of time sparks profoundly negative emotions
ranging from anguish to anger. However, danger lies in failing to recognize history or in the
inability to reconcile the mistakes of the past. In her novel, Beloved, Toni Morrisonexplores the
relationship between the past, presentand future. Because the horrors of slavery cause so much
pain for slaves who endured physical abuse as well as psychological and emotional hardships,
former slaves may try to block out the pain, failing to reconcile with their past. However, when

continue to haunt forever. It appears as though the power of her experience in slavery influences
her so greatly that the memory triggers great pain, causing the horrifying incidents to happen

come back to trouble her, she still tries to avoid them and thus attempts to shield her daughter

In this life, you encounter friends who leave footprints on your path. The actions they take and the
words they use leave fragments of their impact on you. Other people s impressions are eluded
along your journey. You may not forget, but you do not cherish the essence of their time. In the
book, The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgeraldties two concepts together, side by side. As he throws
the main character into a strikingly new environment, Nick Carraway seizes the opportunity to
make true friendships. At the same time, he is swayed and mixed into a crowd of shallow
encounters with untrustworthy people. To dive into this theme, Nick Carraway blatantly expresses

proceeds to drop this idea by saying, It made no difference to me. Dishonesty in a woman is a

Contracts For A Contract Agreement Essay
A contract is a promise or a set of promises that one party makes to another and that can be
enforced using law. Contracts are made for commercial bargains. A contract is legally binding. It
entails selling or hire of commodities such as services, goods or land. The major elements
required for a legally binding contract are offer and its acceptance . When one person expresses an
offer on outlined terms to contract and the offeree indicates that they have agreed to the set terms,
the contract becomes legally binding. There is usually no room for negotiations after a contract has
been made. Therefore, an offer that is valid must be in existence. There are requirements for
existence of such a valid offer. This essay assesses the requirements. For an offer to be valid,
contracting parties in a commercial transaction must be having an intention of entering into an
agreement that is legally binding. Therefore, both the offeror and the offeree must be ready to
create a relationship that is legal in manner . This ensures that either parties can sue the other in
case they do not adhere to provisions of the terms in the contract. If the parties are in a commercial
relationship that is not legally binding, then that is not a contract. It may be subject to contract
which means that the terms of the relationship will become legally binding once the parties sign the
subsequent contract. When the interaction is subject to contract, either of the parties is free to exit
the negotiations at

Early Life Stages Of Aging Essay
Aging is a biological process by gradual deterioration of the physiological functions and
metabolic processes. (Hilaire Bakala et al 2012) Exposure to stressful situations during early life
can have intense health consequences and is impaired throughout life. However some cases of
this impact do not become evident until much later in life or decades later, when the individuals
begin to show signs of accelerated ageing. (Katherine A. et al 2014). While understanding the
relationship between early life and longevity has important implications in the field of aging, we
have still little information about the mechanisms involved in the prolonged times scales of stress
aging. A stress can stimulate various pathways leading to increased production of the reactive
oxygen species (ROS) it is well known that are highly reactive and capable of damaged many
biological macro molecules such as DNA, RNA, Proteins, and Lipids (Govinda Rao 1989; Tian et

In addition, episodes of depression and mania tend to be short and frequent around the time of onset
and then lengthen over time with most people experiencing intermittent episodes throughout their

treatment of this disorder tends to be difficult as nonadherence to treatment is common (Hilty,

There are also some gender differences experienced by those with bipolar disorder. Women tend

many fought for this privilege. However, in this current day are women still motivate and women
are still an easy group to mobilize? Logically the answer would be yes since hundreds of
suffragettes fought for this fundamental right, but in the most recent presidential electionabout only
55.6% of all Americans exercised their right to vote. In the United States gender influences a
multitude of different experiences, decisions and affiliations many would think more would go out
and vote. Throughout this paper it will focus on both voter mobilization and party affliction for
women overall. In the ANES Codebook (2012) over 3000 women were respondents compared to
the 2847 male respondents. This alone shows how females are a fundamental and an extremely
influential part of the votingprocess, which means their opinion can either make or break a
candidate. If women feel that a certain candidate will not provide them certain rights the percentage
of women voting for that particular candidate should decease, and vise versa. The reason this
relationship exists is because many women in this country strive for equality and most want
political figures to help provide certain benefits to eventually achieve gender equality. Throughout
this paper I will provide literature that focuses on the subject

European Landmass
Germanic society meets Slavic society in this locale that straddles east and west, with noteworthy
towns, tall tale palaces, brew, woods, untainted farmland, and mountain reaches, including the
powerful Alps. Europe s rich agrarian and modern differing qualities has made the landmass a focal
point of exchange and trade for a considerable length of time. It is halfway situated between the two
other Old World main lands, Africa and Asia. This custom of trade provoked the early and fast
urbanization of the landmass, unmistakable in numerous dynamic urban communities that make up
the greater part of Europe. Ranger service, the administration of trees and other vegetation in
backwoods, is a vital industry in Europe. Woodland commercial enterprises create more than $600
billion consistently. Ranger service and timber commercial enterprises utilize 3.7 million
individuals, and record for 9 percent of Europe s assembling (GDP).
Europe s most critical timberland commercial ventures are carpentry, paper items, and development
and furniture items. The landmass is an unmistakable exporter of quality included woods items,

Wild gets are taken fundamentally in the eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Essential gets
incorporate Atlantic herring, sprat, blue whiting, and Atlantic mackerel. Driving angling nations are
Spain, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and France. Together, these countries represent about
portion of the majority of Europe s fish gets. As a consequence of its abnormal state of human and
financial advancement, Europe is a complex and for the most part urban landmass. Urban regions
have created one of a kind financial and social noteworthiness that reflect both their neighborhood
geologies and the more extensive European group. Three urban ranges that show this are Frankfurt,
Germany; The Hague, Netherlands; and Tallinn,

The Portrayal Analysis Of The Wild Hearts CanT Be Broken
Andrew Young once said, There s no problem on the planet that can t be solved without violence.
That s the lesson of the civil rights movement. Throughout any movement in U.S. history,
including the Civil Rights Movement people had to make sacrifices in order to fight for what
they believe to be right. Some people even lost their lives, which are some of the sacrifices Pink
is trying to tell us in her song, but she never will give up not matter the circumstances. The song,
Wild Hearts Can t Be Broken, relates to the Civil Rights Movement because they both represent
how groups of people never gave up for what they believe in. Throughout the song, Wild Hearts
Can t Be Broken, Pink talks about the rage, terror, and sickness that is... Show more content on

Some examples of these were: African Americans can t play together, they can t attend the same
restaurants, schools, or even restrooms, and that white nurses in hospitals can t help an African
American male. From these laws came sacrifices that African Americans had to endure, even to
the point of death. A couple of the important deaths were Emmett Till who got killed after he
flirted with a white girl, and George Lee who tried to expose some of the Jim Crow Laws, and
died during one of his protests. These deaths were quite common until a man named, Martin Luther
King Jr. came into the picture. At the beginning of his campaign he wanted three things to happen:
Bring publicity to major civil rights activities and efforts, emphasize and encourage the importance
of non violent protest and resistance, provide leadership to the African American civil rights
movement. He did just that throughout the Civil Rights Movement, and was a major contributor
to the ending of the movement in 1968. In both the Civil Rights Movement and the song Wild
Hearts Can t Be Broken, they both had to make sacrifices, but neither of them stopped them from
reaching their goal. By never giving up for what they believe in, African Americans in the Civil
Rights Movement, and people in the song, Wild Hearts Can t Be Broken, both made sacrifices for
they believe in. In the song, Wild

Populist Party Thesis
The Populist Party After the Grant Administration Scandal and the intimidation of Political
Machines like Tammany Hall, Americans in the 1890s were fed up with the traditional
Republican and Democratic parties. The people were ready for change, and from this
dissatisfaction, the Populist Party was born. The Populist Party, also call the People s Party, sought
to transform the federal government in favor of public interest. The Populist Party helped to bring
about change that Americans wanted, and the efforts of this party are still noticeable in today s
government. The Populists wanted the government to be more actively involved in the economy.
Prior to this plea for reform, the American federal government played a small role in economy;
their job was to stimulate economic growth, not to regulate it. In their 1896 National Platform, the
Populists called for higher income tax on the more wealthy citizens. The graduated income tax
endorsed by Populists was adopted after the dissipation of the Party and is still used today.
Currently, depending on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Populist Party recognized that privately owned railroads proved to be a real problem for
farmers who were trying to ship crops across the country at reasonable prices. The new party
called for a switch from private to public owned and regulated railroads. In the 1896 Platform, the
Populists argued that since the railroads were a means of exchange and public necessity , then the
government should operate the railroads in the best interest of the people. They claimed the Robber
Barons, like Andrew Carnegie, of the railroad corporations would cause the impairment if not
destruction of the political rights and personal liberties of the citizens. Monopolies are now illegal
in the United States because they prohibit fairness and competition that the economy needs in order

Genghis Kh The Emperor And Founder Of The Mongol Empire
Gunnar Burgin
Captain Honnen
History 300
16 November 2014
Genghis Khan Genghis Khan was the emperor and founder of the Mongol Empire, a man known
throughout history for his ruthlessness, and success, as head of the largest land based empire
during his tenure. A nomadic people, the Mongols spent many years prior to the great success of
Genghis living in turmoil, lacking a leader to unify and lead the people to greater success than
simply surviving. Prior to his death in August 1227 and subsequent burial back in Mongolia,
Genghis Khan s Mongol Empire spanned from China to Eastern Europe, Vietnam into Siberia,
encompassing the people and cultures of those conquered in these lands. In order to impose his will
and assert dominance over Russia, Eastern Europe, China, and the heartland of Islam, Genghis
Khan revolutionized warfare and weaponry, bringing a swift end to any enemy standing in his path.
With a territory stretching across Asia into Europe, and with his undersized army fighting and
defeating much larger forces, Genghis Khan s strongest attribute was his military prowess. Despite
conquering numerous civilizations over a vast area of land and influencing the cultures, governing,
social lives, and more, Genghis Khan s greatest influence on the world throughout his ventures was
his influence on the military, through tactics, weaponry, and leadership. Born sometime in the
1160s, the youth named Temujin began his life with a series of physical, mental, and emotional tests

Report For Exothermic Lab Report
Using Temperature Change to Identify Exothermic and Endothermic Reactions
Farah Elnemr

Chemistry Honors
Clinton
Introduction Through change in heat, this experiment was done to recognize exothermic and
endothermic reactions, which both relate back to the topic of thermochemistry. Thermochemistry is
study of energy changes that occur during chemical reactions and state changes. A certain amount
of energy is stored in every substance in bonds. A system and its surroundings are used throughout
the subject of thermochemistry as a whole. A system is the part of the universe being focused on.
The surroundings are everything revolving around the system. In an exothermic reaction, heat
leaves the system and is absorbed by the surroundings, leaving the reaction to seem like it is
heating up. In an endothermic reaction, heat flows from the surroundings and into the system,
leaving the reaction to seem like it is being cooled. Overall, the use of heat change allows the ...

The first and third reactions are categorized as endothermic because there was a decrease in
temperature, resulting in a cooler temperature. In reactions one and three, heat flowed from the
surroundings and into the system, which left the reaction to seem like it was being cooled. The
second and fourth reactions are categorized as exothermic because there was an increase in
temperature, resulting in a warmer temperature. In reactions two and four, heat escaped from the
system and was absorbed by the surroundings, which left the reaction to seem like it was heating
up. Endothermic reactions occur when the system absorbs heat from its surroundings. Exothermic
reactions occur when the system releases heat into the surrounding. Without the subject of
thermochemistry, endothermic and exothermic reactions may be unheard

Water In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
When forced to give up so much, the Joad family begins to question their faith. Several religions
share the belief that water has the power to cleanse and purify oneself. When the Joad family
arrives in California, all of the men bathe in a river, symbolizing their rebirth. They are purging
themselves of the past and focusing on their future and their aspirations. When they submerge
themselves in the water, all of their tribulations such as Granpa s death and the loss of their
farm, will be left behind in order to focus on what s to come. The water also symbolizes a new
start for the Joad family. Steinbeck writes, He cupped his hands full of water and rubbed his
face...dusty water ran out of his hair and streaked his neck (284). The... Show more content on

Throughout the story, however, Steinbeck portrays Casy as a parallel to JesusChrist. Similarly to
Jesus, Casy restores faith and brings hope to the people who are suffering the most. Like Jesus,
Casy went into the wilderness for clarity: I been in the hills, thinkin , almost you might say like
Jesus wen into the wilderness to think His way out of troubles (32). Additionally, Casy
resembles Jesus before he is murdered when he declares, You don know what you re a doin (386).
These words are similar to Jesus famous last words Father, forgive them, for they do not know
what they do. Steinbeck also uses Uncle John to symbolize the power of Christianity. When
RosaSharn gives birth to a stillborn baby, Uncle John is sent to discard of it. He places the baby
in a stream and whispers, Go down an tell em. Go down in the street an rot an tell em that
way....Maybe they ll know then. (448). Uncle John s action alludes to the story of Moses. Moses
mother sends her baby down the river to save him from slavery. Similarly, Uncle John sends the
baby down the river to free it from the Joad s miserable conditions. Uncle John wants to send a
message to other migrants. He hopes the baby will tell em of the family s misfortunes

Argumentative Essay About Adolf Hitler
Adolf Hitler was not a fabricated beast from a horror movie, like many seem to think. Hitler was,
in fact, a man of unjust accusations, and an evil power hungry tyrant. The fact remains that he
was indeed, a human. That s the alarming part of it. It wasn t Satan himself that endured
hardships, failed the trials of life, became a power driven leader that kept Germany first, and
eventually caused the deaths of 11 million people. Hitler killed 11 million people with lives,
families, and the possibility of a future that was taken away from them. He was only a man, so
how could he have been capable of being so heartless and power hungry? He did not invent hating
Jews, but rather added upon the ideas of his hometown. Studies show that it could have... Show

He stopped going to a formal school in 1905 and began to paint. At this time, his mother has a
severe case of breast cancer. Adolf Hitler, was his mother s boy, which could have been the cause
of abuse from his father. Alois Hitler did not agree with his son s ambitions to become a painter,
which caused a larger conflict between the two. In the September of 1907, Adolf travelled to
Vienna to take the entrance exams for Austria s Academy of Fine Arts. He made it through the
first round, which eliminated 113 aspiring artists down to 80. However, he wasn t in the last top
28 who made it through. Art critics claim that Hitler was not the genius he thought he was and his
artwork was mediocre. His failure as an artist changed his life, and this could have been one of the
factors leading up to his heartless actions. This event alone toughened him out in the long run.
Because of it, Adolf Hitler is not known today as a famous painter, but rather a racist extremist that
ruined many lives and killed 11 million

Zoot Suitors Stereotypes
Zoot Suitors, the criminals or the good guys? Less than a century ago, the people of Los
Angeles used to speak Spanish because it used to belong to Mexico. To think that before the
year of 1942 that Los Angeles, with its Hollywood Walk of Fame and Broadway theatres, used to
be a place where Mexican Americans could not even freely express themselves through their
fashion is appalling. Also, to think that Los Angeles was looked at as the City of Angels,
considering the stigma of the Zoot Suitors, is quite ironic. Therefore, at this time for Los
Angeles, the local threat everyone feared or had disdain for were young male Latinos that were
specifically dressed in zoot suits. At first, it was hard for the community to grasp what exactly was
there vendetta for rebelling; some even concluded that they were rebellious kids that were being
manipulated by enemy agents. As I sat and watched the film it was difficult to believe that Latinos
were viewed as outcasts when indeed it was their ancestors who first built and structured Los
Angeles. However, it was then vividly clear to me that after years of discrimination, it was safer for
them to remain introverted in their own communities and not venture off.... Show more content on

It wasn t even remotely safe for sailors to walk through the neighborhoods of the Latinos; if they
did there was bound to be a fight that would occur. In the film, a sailor named Reno Sanetti
described that at the navy base they would sow thirteen pennies onto their neckerchief, and that
was their weapon to protect them when they were travelling home. To the local service I believe
they saw the zoot suitors as dangerous foreigners and I believe this view of them aided in the zoot
suit riot. The young male Latino community did something different and unique, and because it
went against the norm, they were considered rebels and not welcomed by sailors and later

  • 2. Self-Targeting Sniper Rifle At this years Black Hat hacker conference, security researchers, Runa Sandvik and Michael Auger, will demonstrate how they are able to exploit the vulnerabilities of a self targeting sniper rifle to change the scope s variables when planning out a shot, and even bricking the rifle altogether. Sandvik and Auger Plan to Hack a Pair of $13,000 TrackingPoint Rifles Sandvik and Auger are a married hacker couple and have spent a year researching a way to hack into these smart rifles. The techniques allow a knowledgeable hacker to exploit its sight through Wi Fi. Once the rifle has been infected, a hacker can then use software to manipulate a scope s calculations, disable the scope completely, or just prevent the gun from firing entirely. In a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An attacker can lock a user out, preventing them from using the gun, or completely erase the gun s file system. This would essentially render the scope useless, leaving the shooter to have to aim manually. The file system in TrackingPoint s self aiming system is a vital part of the scope. The system allows a shooter to designate a target, which tells the computer to begin dialing in variables needed to make an accurate shot. It s important to note that the gun will not fire until the shooter has pulled the trigger. Once the trigger is pulled, the gun will then determine when the best time to fire is and take the shot when the barrel is perfectly aligned. TrackingPoint Are Already Working on an Upcoming Patch to Address the Exploit Fortunately, Sandvik and Auger are working together with TrackingPoint in order to develop a software patch that will quickly address the smart rifle s severe vulnerability. While it s not ready yet, TrackingPoint founder, John McHale, said the company would be mailing out a USB drive to customers in order to update their rifles as soon as ... • 3. Using The Credit Line Tied Down T Bill Rate Answer 1. I plan to use the credit line tied to the 3months T bill rate. In loanable funds market which borrowers (my firm) demand funds and lenders supply them. The price in this market is interest rate. Scenario a The growth rate of GDP in the U.S is expected to increase Since there is an expectation on the U.S GDP to increase, this means the increasing labor force in the market that indirectly increases the consumption and investments. May be the government s spending potential is also increasing. These factors would create more demands in the loanable funds market. So the demand and supply in the loanable funds market determines the interest rates. The following exhibit 1a shows when demand is weak (D1) and the real interest rate low ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Real interest rate = Nominal Interest Rate Inflationary premium Exhibit 1b illustrates how inflation influences nominal interest rates. We consider a 3% market interest rate as a stable price. Assume the expected rate of inflation is zero, there will be no inflationary premium; under these conditions the nominal interest rate is equal to the real interest rate. Now there is an expectation of inflation goes higher, forecasted 2% inflation, so the real interest rate now becomes to 1% (based on the real interest rate formula). This case I am better off my firm s future financing cost if I use the credit line. Usually it is not going to work that way. When lenders expect inflation, they will be pushing the interest rate upward by the expected inflation. This case the nominal interest rate is going to be 5% and the real interest rate would become 3%. Lenders may not always forecast the future rate of inflation accurately. If the inflation is higher than was expected then my firm will gain. On the other hand if the inflation rate is less than anticipated then lenders will gain. Therefore, no reason why the inflation will help either my firm or lenders. Answer 2: Answer 4: According to the text book the law of demand states that there is an inverse relationship between the price of a good or service and the quantity of it that consumers are willing to purchase . That being said, in general the demand curve will be in a downward slope. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Speech On Self Evaluation Speech to Explain: Self Evaluation For this speech I choose to have my topic be something I have a strong personal connection to which was Rave culture, its history and practices. Choosing this to be my topic of choice I was able to be motivated in researching it and I believe my genuine interest in the topic showed in my presentation. In this self eval I will be discussing the structure and style along with what I am taking away from this speech. First, I will be talking about the structure of my speech. When doing a speech to explain, like any other speech it s important to have a clear and organized pattern. Essentially when creating my outline for the speech I had made sure to have a clear and engaging intro and hook, meant to clearly state my theme and then jump into the topic. Unfortunately when presenting the speech I was unable to present my introduction as I would have liked and forgot to even mention my theme. I was not very effective in my introduction but knowing so at my conclusion I was sure to clearly state my theme. However,I believe my concluding sentence could have been more clear. To improve I should in the future reinstate my topics and go over key points and leave the audience with psychological closure rather than abruptly saying that was all, thank you . I felt that it would have been beneficial for me to use more visual aids in presenting my topic. Rather than just talking about my topic and the music, I feel that if I showed some actual footage ... • 5. Tackling Environmental Pollution with Green Taxes Introduction Green taxes were introduced objectively to tackle environment pollutions. According to (Fullerton, Leicester, Smith, 2008), taxes on things such as Landfill, industrial energy use (the climate change levy), aggregate levy, motor fuel differentiation, vehicle exercise duty differentiation and central London congestion charge had either been introduced or reformed in the past 20 years to tackle environmental pollution. These taxes are called Green Taxes or Environmental Taxes. Global warming has brought a big concern on environmental issues in many countries, including U.K. Different studies have suggested the need for swift and urgent actions to alleviate the possible costs of climate change. Introducing taxes so called environmental taxes, changes trade permits and other economic measures might play an important role to achieve cost effective control of greenhouse gas emissions (Stern, 2007) Figures from Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that U.K government collected ВЈ41.4billions from environmental taxes in the year 2010 (Office for National Statistics, 2011), rising up to 4.8% in comparison to 2009. This implies that environmental tax revenues have increased exponentially year on year basis, causing doubts to consumers mind on two aspects. (a) Do environmental taxes benefit the government or consumers?. (b) Are there alternatives to environmental taxes?. In answering the two questions, this report will review the literature of environmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Narrative Voice In The Turn Of The Screw By Henry James A simple fact of literature is that a story simply cannot be told without the presence of a nar rator. This textual voice literally narrates the story and therefore wields the power to influ ence it in many ways. Sometimes, it is not what the narrator reveals that is important, but what is left out. Writers can use the different aspects of narration to make their point more efficiently and it is therefore an obvious focus point when it comes to interpreting a text. Henry James The Turn of the Screw has for several reasons been in literary critics spotlight and this essay focuses on the changes in narrativevoice taking place in the introduction along with the first three chapters of the story with some final comments on their relation to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We get no comments from the original narrative voice whatsoever and the story being told is left solely to the reader to interpret since the whole novella ends inside the frame of the creepy story being told. This leaves many questions unanswered and is unor dinary for any novella at the very least. The unsettling events of the tale, however, ask the obvious question of whether the reader can truly trust the woman s letters as factual. Perhaps, she was merely imagining everything. The possibility of an unstable mind cannot be left out and this damages her credibility as a narrator. In addition, since the transcript of the story has travelled through several hands, it can have been altered. This seems unlikely, though, since the transcript surely would have been affected by Douglas knowledge of both prior and sub sequent events that would have given the story an almost omniscient narrator which it far from has. It faithfully remains restricted to the governess point of view. She, however, tells the events as she recalls them, not as they occur, and even though the original first person narrator seems to know the manuscript s recipient, we actually do not know whether we can trust him either. Really, the novella as a whole taunts the reader with uncertainness in both the story s events but also truly through its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Influence Of The D-Day Invasion D Day is an important day in history for all countries involved in World War II, it marked the turning point in the war for the Allies victory. Many modern movies and people focus on the amphibious landings onto the beaches of Normandy. Although the paratroopers of D Day are not as idolized, they played an important and influential role in the outcome of D Day. One area of discrepancy between experts is how well paratroopers performed on D Day. Although paratroopers had many obstacles and setbacks, they played a crucial role in the success of the D day invasion. World War II was a war fought between the Axis powers (Germany, Japan, and Italy) and the Allied powers (United States, Soviet Union, Britain, France, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and China) between the years 1939 and 1945. During the war around sixty million civilians and military personnel were killed. The war was fought mainly on two fronts: The Pacific Theater and the European Theater. Germany surrendered on May 7 1945 and Japan only lasted four more months (Willmont et al., 2004). D Day was an Allied invasion, planned for Normandy, code named Operation Overlord, that took place on June 6 1944. • 8. The Word Voodoo Means Spirit Of The West African The word voodoo means spirit in the West African. It is a religion practiced by much Haitian living in Haiti as well as the Diaspora. For the majority of Haitians, it is a symbol of solidarity of how they stood up and fought for their rights and freedom. For others, it is a painful source of reminder of how their ancestors were cruelly and unjustly treated by the Europeans.Even though the slaves were forced to convert to the Roman Catholic Christianity by missionaries, they continue to practice their faith. As a result, the voodoo is born out of the intermingling of beliefs and practices of African culture and the Catholicism. Nowadays the voodoo plays important role in different integrals politically and socially. In 1676, when the French colonized this Island, they possessed vast land, fields, pastures and garden. They needed cheap labor for the grueling work, especially in those sugars plantations. The slave system has already existed in the 16th century. Upon their arrival, the owners stripped them of their fundamental human rights. They exploited their skills and forbade practicing their traditional beliefs. The Europeans look down on African beliefs as primitive and savage. They did not accept those beliefs as a genuine religion. As a result, they baptized those poor souls as real Christians. Those slaves continued to practice their faith at their peril. If they get caught, they were punished by lashing, imprisonments, and sometimes death. Each tribal has its own ... • 9. The Olympic Games Of The United States Essay In 1896, the Olympic Games were officially reborn into the modern era thanks to a Frenchman named Baron Pierre de Coubertin (Lewis, 1992). In 1904, the Games of the III Olympiad arrived in the United States, marking itself as the first Olympics to be held in said country as well as the first hosted outside of Europe. Often forgotten, this specific Olympics also signifies the beginning of the horrible luck Chicago, Illinois, has had regarding the hosting rights. With four losses under its belt and a history of bad news, Chicago is frequently told to no one s surprise that it should simply give up on its dream and focus on improving itself. However, who s to say that the Jewel of the Midwest can t do both? By incorporating a well thought out narrative of what the city has gone through into their appeal process, Chicago could very well win the bid next time around whenever that might be. The city boasts an efficiently compact setting; a history and love of sports that entices amiable relations between residents; and an enthralling tale to tell. Overall, Chicago can use its need for a strong community to reach the top of the podium in the rigorous battle for host city status. A point often overlooked, the city technically won the hosting rights once. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded the city the right to host the third Olympics in 1904. Be that as it may, those games did not take place in Chicago as planned. Instead, Saint Louis, Missouri, captured the rights ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Cognitive Interview and Eyewitness Credibility The Cognitive Interview and Eyewitness Credibility My Initial Hypothesis Hypothesis: The cognitive interview increases the credibility of eyewitness testimony by decreasing memory error and confabulations. Information is the lifeblood of a criminal investigation. The ability of investigators to obtain useful and accurate information from eyewitnesses of crimes is crucial to effective law enforcement, yet full and accurate recall is difficult to achieve (Stewart, 1985). Such elicitation of complete and accurate recall from people is important in many aspects of life; specifically, eyewitness recall may determine whether a case is solved. Principle advocates of the cognitive interview (Fisher, Geiselman, Holland MacKinnon,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the effectiveness of context reinstatement in cognitive interviewing must consider the extent to which mental reinstatement of context may be effective (Bull Memon, 1991). A study conducted by Bekerian, Dennett, Hill and Hitchcock (1990) classified imaged details into two types: molar details which include the placement of people, environmental factors and physical appearances; and molecular details which include the specificity of the information being imagined. The results indicated a significant increase in recall following imagery instructions, also reporting a proportional increase in errors. In summation, the picture that one obtains from an overview of the context is not reliable, and the combination of different context reinstatement procedures do not aid in the context of the recognition of suspects from photographs (Bekerian et al., 1990). This method, too, does not necessarily improve the credibility of eyewitness accounts, nor does it even decrease memory error and confabulations. My Current Opinion While the cognitive interview does prove to be effective in increasing the amount of accurate information elicited from witnesses of crimes, it does not necessarily increase the credibility of eyewitness testimony by reducing memory error and confabulations. The cognitive interview has been shown to elicit more information than the standard interview, but the two types do not differ on incorrect information or confabulations ... • 12. Description Of Alice In Wonderland Syndrome Imagine, you are nine years old, and you re on a trip to Disneyland with your family. It s your turn to choose a ride to go on and you desperately want to go on the Alice in Wonderland ride. You get in line and you wait for what feels like ages. Finally, you re up next to go on the ride; you and your mom step into the caterpillar shaped cart and the safety bar comes down so it is now resting on top of your lap. The cart suddenly jerks forward and you are sent into the ride at full speed. You see ginormous flowers, teacups that are larger than your house, chairs that are the size of salt shakers, and doors that only a mouse could fit through! When the ride finishes, you are completely disoriented, and you have no idea what the correct sizes of the objects that you are seeing around you should be. What if some people felt like this every single day? What you experienced was much like the symptoms of Todd s Syndrome, more commonly known as Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. This syndrome was first recorded in 1955 by a British psychiatrist by the name of John Todd. He named it Alice in Wonderland Syndrome because of the symptoms that the patient s experiences are much like what Alice experienced in the book Alice in Wonderland written by Lewis Carroll. It is thought that Lewis Carroll suffered from this neuropsychological condition hence the vivid distortions pictured in his book. • 13. Distributed Lag Model For Money Supply And Price... CHAPTER EIGHT DISTRIBUTED LAG MODEL FOR MONEY SUPPLY AND PRICE RELATIONSHIP 8.1 Distributed Lag Model The economic variable Y is affected by not only the value of X at the same time t but also by its lagged values plus some disturbance term i.e.X_t,X_(t 1),X_(t 2).....,X_(t k),Оµ_t.this can be written in the functional form as: гЂ–Y_t=f(XгЂ—_t,X_(t 1),X_(t 2).....,X_(t k),Оµ_t) In linear form, Y_t=О±+ОІ_0 X_t+ОІ_1 X_(t 1)+ОІ_2 X_(t 2)+в‹Ї+ОІ_j X_(t k)+Оµ_t (8.1) Where, ОІ_0 is known as the short run multiplier, or impact multiplier because it gives the change in the mean value of Y_t following a unit change of X_tin the same time period. If the change of X_t is maintained at the same level thereafter, then, (ОІ_0+ОІ_1) gives the change in the mean value of Y_t in the next period, (ОІ_0 + ОІ_1+ОІ_2) in the following period, and so on. These partial sums are called interim or intermediate multiplier. Finally, after k periods, that is =ОІ, therefore ∑⠖’ОІ_i is called the long run multiplier or total multiplier, or distributed lag multiplier. If we define the standardized ОІ_i^* = ОІ_i/(∑⠖’ОІ_i ) then it gives the proportion of the long run, or total, impact felt by a certain period of time. In order for the distributed lag model to make sense, the lag coefficients must tend to zero as kпѓ п‚Ґ. This is not to say that пЃў2 is smaller than пЃў1; it only means that the impact of X_(t k)on Y_t must eventually become small as k gets large. The distributed lag plays ... • 15. Effects Of Pollution On The Chinese Economy poverty can be clearly seen. Southern climate change forces farmers to migrate which directly contributes to the level of poverty and adds to the suffering of the poor. Traditionally, these individuals would at least be able to survive through farming and growing their own food but in urban areas these individuals will be unable to grow their own food. Collier asserts that the poorest states are in need of rapid economic growth which creates tension between povertyreduction and the perversion of nature. This is most evident in China where their desire to grow economically has come at the price of pollution. While China has grown exponentially economically and have reduced poverty, this growth is not sustainable due to their negligence of the environment. The level of pollution in major cities has hurt the Chinese economybecause individuals are refusing to do business there due to health concerns. This effects Chinese businesses and their tourism industry. More times than not, states will choose economic growth, however, in the long run this choice will negatively impact their economy. The relationship between the aforementioned factors have had an adverse effect on the ability of international institutions to eradicate the issues of climate change and poverty. States act in their own self interest and most often they either do not care or cannot see the long term effects of their economic practices. Plunder has been seen to occur most often in poorer ... • 16. Transgender In The Military Transgender in the Military Being a part of the United States military is easier said than done. To become a part of the military, it takes extreme levels of strength both physically and mentally. Each member must be at their highest potential in order to effectively complete each mission. Each member of the military should have no medical or mental distractions, because this may harm the effectiveness of the mission, or even the member. There are countless factors that may disqualify a person from being a part of the United States military due to mental or physical conditions. Each member is greatly appreciated for their service to this country regardless of their race, religion, or sexual preferences, but are transgender individuals mentally and physically fit to fight? When arriving to basic military training in hopes to become a part of the military, each person is first separated into groups based on whether they are a male or female. These are the groups that each person will spend the entirety of their time in basic military training with. With these groups, they will eat, sleep, shower, work out, and complete numerous other activities. It is not easy to get used to showering and changing in front of fifty other people, even if they are the same gender. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God s sight. God does not look on the outside of someone to use them; He looks on the inside of a beautiful heart and works through it. Good morals have been shown to me through my parents and the Bible, and I plan to keep those morals for my life. I try my hardest to stay true to who I am. • 19. Essay on A Perfect Day For Bananafish By J.D. Salinger A Perfect Day For Bananafish By J.D. Salinger A Perfect Day For Bananafish was written in 1948 by the American writer Jerome David Salinger. This was just three years after the ending of World War II, where Salinger was stationed in Berlin, Germany. From further analysis of the short story I have come to the conclusion that Seymour is Salinger s role model. Seymour has just returned from World War II, as well as Salinger had when he wrote the story. Seymour returns to his native country very confused, dysfunctional and with some psychic issues. From the conversation between Muriel and her mother, we acknowledge that Seymour didn t act normally after he has returned from the war. He destroyed all those lovely pictures from Bermuda for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Muriel, Seymour s wife, and her parents, are representing the kind of America the soldiers in World War II return to. They are unaware of what exactly has taken place and what kinds of unexplainable cruelties these soldiers have experienced. On top of that, Muriel and her mother seem very self centered and extremely shallow, which doesn t make it any better for Seymour to return to, even though they seem to show great concern for him and his kind of behavior. For example, we are being told about Muriel that she was a girl who for a ringing phone dropped exactly nothing. She looked as if her phone had been ringing continually ever since she had reached puberty. Muriel s mother is also extremely concerned for Muriel because now Seymour has some psychic problems, she sees him as some loony maniac. In spite of this, we know how Seymour behaves in the episode on the beach with Sybil, and Muriel s beliefs about Seymour are therefore somehow not entirely correct, even though Seymour does act like one in the elevator on his way back to his hotel room. To explain the tragic ending it s important to know that Salinger, at the time he wrote the story, showed great interest in Zen attitudes. Oedipus was the one who held his fate and destiny in his hands. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first element of negligence is duty of care. According to the plaintiff, White Star Line, which owns and operates Titanic, owes a duty of care to all of the passengers on the ship. All of the passengers relied upon White Star Line to take them to New York safely. Therefore, the crew on Titanic owed duty of care to not only provide food and comfort, but more importantly safety to the passengers. Breach of duty occurs when defendant s action has created risk of harm to others. In this case, the plaintiff believes that the crew of the Titanic behaved in unreasonable manner in many ways. The actions of the crew members resulted in the Titanic struck a large iceberg and eventually sank causing large casualties, so the duty of care was breached. Whether the breach of duty has caused the plaintiff s injury is the third element of negligence. Requirements for causation are causation in fact and proximate cause. Causation in fact is determined by the but for test, which means if it was not for the defendant s breach of duty, harm or injury would not have occurred. Proximate cause is when the connection between the action (breach of duty) and the injury is strong enough to impose liability. DurГЎn wrote this book to share his research findings. When DurГЎn had to move to Huntsville, UT (but went to school in Ogden) he found himself immersed in an area where gangs were becoming popular. DurГЎn, an ex gangmember himself was curious on how and why gangs operate. He found this research important, because he saw firsthand how society had a role in the formation of gangs. Duran felt that it needed to be brought to light what he witnessed while being a gang member himself and when he conducted his research. This book was different than other literature that had been produced, because Duran was able to get closer and inspect the deeper characteristics of gang life and gang members themselves. This is something that other researchers in the field are typically not able to accomplish. He took on the perspective of investigating what role racial oppression had with the development of gangs. His perspective and his ex gang membership background allowed him to be more trusted by all the gang members that he interviewed for this research. Increase in international trade, globalization and creation of big corporations caused negative impact on the environment. The Bretton Woods systemwas aimed to boost the production and consumption of commodities. The World Bank and the IMF, led by the US, financed corporations and exploitation of resources. The Bretton Woods system was supposed to make use of the world s natural riches. The fall of Communism in the world gave more power to the corporations and led to the creation of the free market system. The US government tried to help underdeveloped nations to export wood, livestock and other commodities to industrialized countries. The establishment of new financial institutions helped the public works projects to rise. One of the examples of these projects was the Tennessee River Valley in 1933. The government constructed 20 dams and coal fired power plants with a purpose to provide electricity to poor areas. Although the project provided many benefits, it also created a quite few ecological concerns. Construction of dams flooded to many areas. Mining of coal caused pollution and erosion. The present study was established to show revealed the presence of neurochemical and histopathological changes in the cerebellum of rat model of Parkinson s disease induced by the intrastriatal injection of rotenone. This may change the strategy of the disease treatment that depends mainly on the restoration of dopaminelevels in the basal ganglia. The present findings showed the development of hyperexcitability in the cerebellum of rat model of PD induced by intrastriatal injection of rotenone. This was indicated from the significant increase in the excitatory amino acid neurotransmitters; glutamate and aspartate and the significant decrease in the inhibitory amino acids; GABA, glycine and taurine. These neurotransmitters are involved in many functions such as motor behavior, cognition, and emotion (Ottersen and Storm Mathisen, 1986, Schmidt et al., 1992)1,2. Contracts are made for commercial bargains. A contract is legally binding. It entails selling or hire of commodities such as services, goods or land. The major elements required for a legally binding contract are offer and its acceptance . When one person expresses an offer on outlined terms to contract and the offeree indicates that they have agreed to the set terms, the contract becomes legally binding. There is usually no room for negotiations after a contract has been made. Therefore, an offer that is valid must be in existence. There are requirements for existence of such a valid offer. This essay assesses the requirements. For an offer to be valid, contracting parties in a commercial transaction must be having an intention of entering into an agreement that is legally binding. Therefore, both the offeror and the offeree must be ready to create a relationship that is legal in manner . This ensures that either parties can sue the other in case they do not adhere to provisions of the terms in the contract. If the parties are in a commercial relationship that is not legally binding, then that is not a contract. It may be subject to contract which means that the terms of the relationship will become legally binding once the parties sign the subsequent contract. Over that time women have gone out and exercised their right to vote, since so many fought for this privilege. However, in this current day are women still motivate and women are still an easy group to mobilize? Logically the answer would be yes since hundreds of suffragettes fought for this fundamental right, but in the most recent presidential electionabout only 55.6% of all Americans exercised their right to vote. In the United States gender influences a multitude of different experiences, decisions and affiliations many would think more would go out and vote. Throughout this paper it will focus on both voter mobilization and party affliction for women overall. In the ANES Codebook (2012) over 3000 women were respondents compared to the 2847 male respondents. This alone shows how females are a fundamental and an extremely influential part of the votingprocess, which means their opinion can either make or break a candidate. If women feel that a certain candidate will not provide them certain rights the percentage of women voting for that particular candidate should decease, and vise versa. The reason this relationship exists is because many women in this country strive for equality and most want political figures to help provide certain benefits to eventually achieve gender equality. A couple of the important deaths were Emmett Till who got killed after he flirted with a white girl, and George Lee who tried to expose some of the Jim Crow Laws, and died during one of his protests. These deaths were quite common until a man named, Martin Luther King Jr. came into the picture. At the beginning of his campaign he wanted three things to happen: Bring publicity to major civil rights activities and efforts, emphasize and encourage the importance of non violent protest and resistance, provide leadership to the African American civil rights movement. Report For Exothermic Lab Report Using Temperature Change to Identify Exothermic and Endothermic Reactions Farah Elnemr 6/9/16 Chemistry Honors Clinton Introduction Through change in heat, this experiment was done to recognize exothermic and endothermic reactions, which both relate back to the topic of thermochemistry. Thermochemistry is study of energy changes that occur during chemical reactions and state changes. A certain amount of energy is stored in every substance in bonds. A system and its surroundings are used throughout the subject of thermochemistry as a whole. A system is the part of the universe being focused on. The surroundings are everything revolving around the system. In an exothermic reaction, heat leaves the system and is absorbed by the surroundings, leaving the reaction to seem like it is heating up. In an endothermic reaction, heat flows from the surroundings and into the system, leaving the reaction to seem like it is being cooled. Overall, the use of heat change allows the ... They are purging themselves of the past and focusing on their future and their aspirations. When they submerge themselves in the water, all of their tribulations such as Granpa s death and the loss of their farm, will be left behind in order to focus on what s to come. To think that before the year of 1942 that Los Angeles, with its Hollywood Walk of Fame and Broadway theatres, used to be a place where Mexican Americans could not even freely express themselves through their fashion is appalling. Also, to think that Los Angeles was looked at as the City of Angels, considering the stigma of the Zoot Suitors, is quite ironic. Therefore, at this time for Los Angeles, the local threat everyone feared or had disdain for were young male Latinos that were specifically dressed in zoot suits. At first, it was hard for the community to grasp what exactly was there vendetta for rebelling; some even concluded that they were rebellious kids that were being manipulated by enemy agents. As I sat and watched the film it was difficult to believe that Latinos were viewed as outcasts when indeed it was their ancestors who first built and structured Los Angeles.
