Bruce Dawe Consumerism
Good afternoon/morning ladies and gentlemen. Consumerism is defined by the English oxford
dictionary as continual expansion of one s wants and needs for goods and services. Bruce Dawes
poems Televistas and Enter Without So Much As Knocking critique the powerful and persuasive
influence that companies have on our society.
Consumerism leads to self gratification and the loss of life s important values such as friendship, love
and religion; this is an ever growing issue that manipulates and deceives society and has done so since
the beginning of the technological age.
Bruce Dawes poetry highlights his concerns and devotion towards the ordinary consumer and how
easily manipulated and rocked by the media they may be. He does this through the use of ironic
humor, cliché, hyperbole and many other language features that are extensively used in his poetry. ...

The poem Enter without so much as knocking begins with the innocence of a baby being exposed to
the harsh materialistic world seconds after birth. The capitalization of the words HOSPITAL
SILENCE presents the idea of sings which are controlling the way we live. This is reinforced further
into the poem when the baby is considered an adult and is truly introduced to the consumerism of the
society.
Capitalized words again represent the words the man reads on signs. Dawe mocks these signs by
including NO BREATHING EXCEPT BY ORDER which is using irony, as it is impossible to be able
to control when people can and cant breathe. At the end of the poem the non capitalization of the
world silence shows that it is silence rather than a gins demanding silence. This shows that the only
way to escape the miser of a noisy consumerist society is through

Professional Skills Required For A General Manager Of A...
Introduction
The purpose of this assignment is to show the personal and professional skills needed to become a
General Manager of a Littlemore s superstores to support their strategic direction.
Task 1. Be able to assess personal and professional skills required to achieve strategic goals
1.1 Evaluation of personal skills required for managers to achieve strategic goals of Littlemore s

Personal skills are those concerned with how people manage and express themselves. People who
have worked on developing strong personal skills are usually more successful in both their personal
and professional lives.
So what are managers personal skills required to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of this method is to assist each individual to understand her or his weaknesses and
strengths, and to contribute insights into aspects of her or his work needing professional development.
Also this method allows each individual to understand how others view his or her effectiveness as an
employee, coworker, or staff member.
Therefore any of these evaluation methods can be applied by Littlemore s superstores to evaluate
staffs personal skills given below:
1.1.1 Time management
Time management refers to the way that you organize and plan how long you spend on specific
activities.
In my opinion time management is one of the necessary personal skills not only in Littlemore s, but
also for managers in whole. As Brian Tracy said:
Your ability to manage your time, as much as any other practice in your career as an executive, will
determine your success or failure. Time is the one indispensable and irreplaceable resource of
accomplishment. It is your most precious asset. It cannot be saved, nor can it be recovered once lost.
Everything you have to do requires time, and the better you use your time, the more you will
accomplish, and the greater will be your rewards. (Tracy 2014,p. 1)
So from my point of view managers who fail to manage their time effectively can have some
undesirable effects, such as poor work quality, a poor professional reputation and a dead end career,
high levels of stress, ineffective operation and

Identity Vs. Role Diffusion Crisis
Jordan is interviewing for a job at a fast food restaurant. During the interview, it would be in Jordan s
best interest to display the characteristics of an extroverted person. Eysenck described someone that is
of high degree in the extroversion scale as someone that is outgoing and sociable (436). The
interviewer would like someone that is outgoing instead of shy because customers appreciate someone
that is approachable. He would also look for someone that is sociable because customers like someone
that can carry out a conversation. Displaying these traits during the interview would make a lasting
impression on the interviewer. Showing the interviewer that he had a positive transition into adulthood
will make a positive impression and may lead to him getting the job. The Identity vs. Role diffusion
crisis is the change in personality between the adolescent years to early adulthood. If Jordan is able to
show that he had obtained a positive result to the identity crisis. By him displacing that he successfully
overcame his adolescent years, he would be more likely to get the job because of his maturity. If
Jordan shows his interviewer that he has a high internal locus of control, he would make a lasting
impression. The internal locus of control can best be described as perceiving that one s life is out of

Martin Scoorsese s Influence On American Culture
Martin Scorsese is an award winning film director and writer, who has created culture shaping movies
over the past six decades. His work is dark, gritty, real, and sometimes misinterpreted, which lead to a
large scandal in the 1980 s. However, its hard to deny the impact this director has left on American
culture. Martin Scorsese is an inspirational for his film directing and producing, screenwriting, and his
effect on American culture. Martin Scorsese began his career as a producer and director in 1967, with
his first major film, Who s That Knocking at My Door . As a director, he d become famous from his
movie Taxi Driver . This movie was released in 1976 and it starred Robert De Niro and Jodie Foster.

Scorsese wrote one of the most iconic movies in American history, Goodfellas . Goodfellas went on to
triumph. It won widespread critical acclaim, success at the box office and earned six Oscar
nominations. Twenty five years later, its recognition as a classic is near universal. Goodfellas didn t
just look authentic. For those who d led the Mafia life it had a definite sense of the real thing. Twenty
five years on, Goodfellas is more than just special, it s viewed as a real masterpiece, among the best
pictures of the 1990s and possibly the best movie Martin Scorsese has ever made (Tom Brook 2015).
Goodfellas has the same dark heart, understanding that even as the audience watches on with horror,
there s some tiny part of them that has completely surrendered to the madness and the fun. That was
Goodfellas s original genius and, even in retrospect, it seems impossible to equal (David Sims 2015).
Goodfellas changed the way we viewed gangsters and the mafia. His screenwriting has told fantastic
stories over the years. In addition to writing Goodfellas , he wrote Mean Streets , The Age of

A Paragraph On The Passage Of Approximately Five Essay
PG 251 255
1) Choose a paragraph in the passage of approximately five to eight sentences that strikes you as
particularly powerful. Analyze each sentence, considering its length and whether its type is simple,
compound, complex, fragment, or run on. See page 367 and page 343 in Reference Points. Write a
short passage on a topic of your choice in which you mimic the sentences you analyzed. The blue
bowl stood there, seemingly full forever, no matter how deeply or rapaciously we dipped, as if it had
no bottom. And she dipped up soup. Dipped up lima beans. Dipped up stew. Forked out potatoes.
Spooned out rice and peas and corn. And in the light and warmth that was Her, we dined. (My mother
s Blue Bowl by Alice Walker. Paragraph 19, line 1 5.)
The first sentence is a complex sentence because it is made up of an independent clause the bowl
stood there , no matter how deeply or rapaciouly we dipped . And a dependent clause seemingly full
forever , as if it had no bottom . It is a long sentence because it has several subordinate clause.
The second to fourth sentence are fragment sentences: it is an incomplete sentence. It lacks a subject,
it consists of a verb dipped and an object soup , lima beans and stew .
The fifth sentence is a fragment sentence:It has no subject and it s incomplete. The verb is forked and
the object is potatoes . It is a short sentence.
The sixth sentence is a fragment sentence: It is an incomplete sentence. The question is who spooned

Socrates s Views On Socrates
Socrates could undeniably be described as one of the most influential philosophers and greatest
thinker of his time. His views can be interpreted many different ways, but most would agree that he
sought out wisdom and truth for the betterment of himself and his community. Though Socrates was
one of the most intelligent men of his time, he was very foolish to never write his own book. For this
reason, after his passing, one of his students, Plato, began to write a book about his teachings and
ideas called Plato: Five Dialogues. In this book, we examined Plato s Meno in which Meno asks
Socrates can virtue be taught? but, Socrates quickly transforms this question into what is virtue? . This
questions ultimately consumes the entirety of this dialogue, and in the end, Meno proves to lack
originality in his arguments by simply agreeing with each thing Socrates states. While Meno thought
he knew the answer to this question, Socrates provides a different opinion. Although Meno does not
learn anything in the course of this dialogue, Socrates still remains one of the most influential teachers
and philosophers of his time. In this essay I shall focus on the question of who is Socrates, next I will
examine what teaching and learning really mean, and finally I will conclude with the fact that Meno
does not actually learn anything from Socrates.
Socrates, born in 470 BC in Athens, Greece, knew from a very young age the profound love and
passion he carried for philosophy. His unendingly

Are Writing Skills Necessary In The Work Force Analysis
I believe writing skills are necessary in the work force. For example if I was sent out on a job to go
and fix someone s computer, I would have to record and document data for my job. It is a necessity for
two reasons, one to explain to the customer what I had done to their computer, and what they should
do in order to prevent the matter from happening again. Secondly I would use my documentation to
prove my worth to my boss, in order to show what I do on the job, and why I am an asset to the
company. In the article Mr. Pillai stresses the importance of writing, and why they are vital to
everyday routines. Granted I do agree with some of the points Mr. Pillai makes I do feel as if some of
these are not needed to be stressed as much as he believes

Reflection OnKnowing Others Is Wisdom, Mastering Yourself...
I would like to begin with the quote Knowing others is wisdom, mastering yourself is Enlightenment .
In this course I have discovered more about myself all through the class formally as well as
informally. To my surprise few of the Management skills I was performing in my day to day life in a
corporate environment without knowing it. And then there are some brand new skills I have learnt in
the class such as Tuckman s team model, Drexler/Sibbet team performance model. At first I was
thinking I am a helper (Type 2 enneagram) but to my amazement I found out that I am Achiever (Type
3 enneagram). As type 3 personalities are extroverts I did not find difficulty in any stages of Tuckman
s team model . All the process of forming, storming, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then one day professor shared his personal experience for taking his parents for granted and the cost
he paid for it by losing them permanently. After knowing this I realized my mistake and really felt
guilty for taking them granted. They all need is to know that I am doing fine in my life on everyday
basis. And being only son they don t have any other choice also. From then onwards every day I
started calling them even before their message. This will be The Best lesson I learnt informally for my
life. When it comes to team work I used the Drexler/Sibbet team performance model extensively. In
our creativity and innovation class we will be having multiple assignments for the week, so I went by
each step of the model starting with Orientation of team by meeting in library and brainstorm the ideas
for the assignments and provide all necessary inputs and hands over the responsibility to one of the
team member so that the particular member feels that we all are trusting him solely and also gives the
100% commitment without any external factors. Which is good for the team to achieve the high
performance. Not all the brainstorming session ends smoothly, because we cannot incorporate all the
ideas. So when it comes to dealing with the conflict situations to convince the team without hurting
anyone, I learned Thomas Kilmann conflict mode Instrument (TKI) when to compromise and when to
collaborate. And then there will be someone whom

Stopping Science Strictures Science is one of man s most powerful tools in interpreting his status in
the universe; however, with this great power comes great responsibility, and therefore, there must be
reasonable expectations and restrictions, but does that mean that restrictions need to be placed to limit
the pursuit of science? Or rather, does society need restrictions to limit how science is to be used?
Literature and historical events both point to the single truth that society, not science, must be
checked. In the dystopian novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the reader follows main
character Bernard Marx through the workings of a new society something many ... Show more content

In the novel, the reader follows Winston Smith, an Outer Party member and a worker of the Ministry
of Truth, where he alters and forges the past on a daily basis. Through his point of view, the reader
navigates through the tyranny of Big Brother and the dilapidating society around him which is
constantly at war with the two other nations in the world. The world as Winston knows it is controlled
by four institutions: The Ministry of Love (which tortures people), The Ministry of Truth (which
changes the past), The Ministry of Peace (which funds/supports the war), and The Ministry of Plenty
(which is continually imposing ration systems). In Winston s world, literature has been destroyed,
most old artifacts have been seized, emotion has been squelched and abandoned, and language is
shortened through a new language, Newspeak. In charge of all this is Big Brother, a figurehead who
everyone is brainwashed into admiring. And just like Brave New World, many readers analyze and
infer from 1984 that science has caused these problems, and that discoveries in computer science may
cause the stone that past was written on to melt away. However, once again, science is only able to
generate knowledge; what society chooses to do with the information must be monitored and limited
by society itself. In 1984, society should have limited the alterations of history and usage of weapons
in order to prevent such a disastrous dystopia from ever occurring

Everyday Life Sociology
All interpretation of our world is based on previous experiences of it both our own and others. It is
given to us when we are born to experience and interpret. The world of everyday life, or everyday
social world, is an intersubjective world that existed long before our birth, experienced and interpreted
by Others, our predecessors, as an organised world. (Schutz, 1962 1996: 208) This world isn t a
private world, it is common to all of us, and provides the scene and object of our actions and
interactions. Our everyday social world is shaped by our actions, our actions are influenced by the
environment we exist in. Understanding this world gives us a chance to view how personal and
interpersonal relationships intersect with relations of power and broader social identities. (Robin
Overholtzer, 2015). The concept of everyday life in central to humanity. People have daily practices
such as interacting, walking, working, playing; all of which influence how individuals develop,

Everyday life always takes place in and relates to the immediate environment of a person, no matter
where in the world they exist. Our everyday life depicts the ongoing reproduction and emulation of
our current society. People reproduce society by reproducing themselves and handing down accepted
social functions and expectations. When humans reproduce, they become a representative of a world
into which others are born. When I was born, my parents taught me how to exist in our everyday
world, and one day I will pass this on to my own children. This process can, however, be influenced
by other factors. Personal experience, in particular, plays a significant role in how we interact with
others and what version of the world we choose to relay and share with

Intro of RFID
Advantages of RFID
Process of Implementation
Companies that have implemented RFID
RFID or Radio Frequency Identification as the name suggests uses Radio frequency for identification
of a particular object. It is similar to a bar code, scans to retrieve a particular and unique information
for identification. It consists of a chip, capable of carrying a maximum of 2000 bytes of data and an
antenna uses electronic devices (small in size). The major feature of RFID above other electronic
identification mechanisms is that the RFID device need not be precisely positioned wrt the scanner.
RFID technology has recently become one of the revolutionary element in supply chain management.

 Decreased inventory of as much as 5% of total inventory
 Reduced labor costs in stores and warehouses, as much as 7.5% has been estimated
 Reduced stock outs, as high as 7% of revenues
 Reduced shrinkage by theft this is a multi billion dollar issue
 Increased inventory accuracy
 Automated replenishment
 Counterfeit prevention

Consumers can also benefit from RFID, but it depends upon how retail unit tagging is carried out. The
most common benefits possible are:
Improved service potentially faster checkout avoiding traditional lines. Users would wave an RFID
enabled card near a reader, instantly completing the purchasing transaction.
Improved availability of items better visibility of products, allows for timely ordering, manufacturing,
distribution, and restocking of goods.
Improved product and service quality manufacturers could quickly locate and recall faulty products,

Alexander s Policy Of Fusion Essay
Son: Alexander s policy of fusion is the best method of governing the Persian Empire. Father: I doubt
your evidence. Listen to me son, just look at his attempts at proskynesis and see how it failed to
appease the races. It may have worked for the Persians with their silly ways of thanking Alexander but
it has not worked on Macedonians! Son: Proskynesis! Father if you only saw why he had to introduce
it to both courts then you would see my point. Yes, I may agree that it came as all a bit of a shock to
Macedonians; however we must trust Alexander to do the right thing by us. Alexander does not want
us to see him as a god; it is simply an attempt to make Persians equal to us1. Father: To believe that
would to be a fool. I believe Alexander not only wanted fusion but to be worshipped. Do you not see

outspoken man, one does not see the for and against, only what they ve always known. Perhaps
Anaxarchus was right to engage in debate with Callisthenes, however I do not entirely agree that he

Into the Wild a story that gave a life event and a deranged experience. I personally believe no one
would want to experience what Mcandless went through ever. Unless of course they like to be lonely

world would not want to live what he went through, So frightened to know you prefer being alone

McCandless was a tough soldier went through tough times but to him it was all an experience and as

Nannette Burstein American Teen
AMERICAN TEEN:
A documentary filled with scripted spontaneity and a slight insight to reality explores the stereotypical
lives of five high school seniors. Kaylee O Dwyer talks about the truth behind this popular film,
American Teen.
American Teen, directed by Nanette Burstein, is a documentary film set in a small town in Indiana.
The film follows the lives of five high school teenagers through their final year of high school in a
way that hasn t been perceived since The Breakfast Club . The film over exaggerates the problems,
demands and complications the modern generations are facing today by combining candid footage
with false, staged events. The goal is less to provide a slice of reality than it is to estimate a
fictionalized version of that reality through the inclusion of re enactments, dramatisations, voice overs
and other techniques, deceiving viewers into believing that what they re seeing is actually real.

his message perfectly to Hannah. In a situation of an unexpected event there is no possible way the

According to Advocates for Youth, approximately 91% of women are unhappy with their bodies and
resort to dieting to achieve their ideal body shape. Unfortunately, only 5% of women naturally possess
the body type often portrayed by Americans in the media. The media creates an unrealistic image for
women to strive for. Many companies like Victoria s Secret, Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, and so

Many women all across the world feel unattractive when they see these ads as they flip the page of
their magazine or even pass the store in the mall. Women already experience enough self esteem
issues and social media does not help. Every woman wants to be beautiful and most importantly feel
beautiful. The ads with the title The Perfect Body, give the impression that that is what the perfect
body looks like. According to Dwyer, the brand s Facebook page has been receiving backlash. For
example, Facebook user Stephanie Connolly wrote: Just seen the perfect body advert......and here s me

Last year, model Bria Murphy, daughter of Eddie Murphy, was interviewed live on Good Morning

lengths such as eat cotton balls soaked in orange juice because of the pressure to stay thin. They dip it
in the orange juice, and they eat the cotton balls to make them feel full, she said. While that s awful

Love Medicine By Louise Erdrich Summary
Tracks and Love Medicine, both by Louise Erdrich, are only fragments of a much larger collection of
Erdrich s Native American works. Both pieces of literature are set in the early to mid twentieth
century and revolve around difficulties the Native American people go through in their struggle of
preserving their culture and ways of life. Native American literature invokes a taste of modern
influence alongside traditional Indian mythology to truly thicken a plot. Ancestral values are evident
throughout this specific type of literature as well as the idea of balance within the world to create a
true native atmosphere. Furthermore, there are major themes within this type of literature including
Christian influence, family, and reservations. These all tie into the life of a Native American. Each
major work explores the world of Native Americans through its narration, characters, and the overall
plot. To begin, the narration of the novels is one of many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

setting though ties into the overall structure of the novels. The jumping around gives depth and history
that adds to the reader s experience. Mythology is then another differing factor. Mythology and lore
are used all throughout Tracks. The main plot and characters focus around Lake Matchimanito that is
said to hold a deadly monster. It was told simply to scare children but after men turn up dead, it s
taken too seriously within the Native American community. Love Medicine doesn t include that big of

In recent years, mental health professionals have become increasingly aware of the importance of
genetic factors in the etiology (causes) of mental disorders. Since the Human Genome Project began

psychiatric diagnosis and treatment have accumulated rapidly. A new subspecialty known as biological

Haruki Murakami s The Elephant Vanishes is a collection of short stories, published in 1993.
Murakami is a Japanese author who has spent most of his life in the West. His writing style is heavily
influenced by his lifestyle and therefore he is not considered to be a traditional Japanese author
(Poole). The affects of westernization on the characters can be evaluated from their conversations and
relationships. There is at least one Western component in each short story and it always has a relation
to the plotline or the characters. Food, arts and romantic relationships are the three main motifs in
which the affects of western elements can be seen. Although these motifs may not have a direct affect
on the actions of the characters, there is always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In almost every story, there is a romantic relationship between the characters. This relationship is
usually sexual and seems to be at the center of the plotline. It is not very common for Japanese people
to be so open about sexual relationships, but in The Elephant Vanishes, Murakami portrays characters,
which are very exposed about their romantic relationships. In The Wind Up Bird and Tuesday s
Woman , the narrator receives a call from an anonymous woman. Although he first refuses to talk to
the woman, he ends up having phone sex with her. I m in bed right now the woman says. I just took a
shower and have nothing on . The fact that the woman is so open to have a sexual conversation with
the narrator reflects the traces of westernization. On the other hand, the fact that the narrator is not so
comfortable with the situation he is in fulfills the reader s expectations of a traditional Japanese
plotline. A romantic relationship is present in almost every story and has a great influence on the way
the story unfolds by shaping the flow of the conversations. In Family Affair , the narrator is very
exposed about his sex life, while his sister is not so comfortable talking about sexual relationships.
Once again, there is a conflict originated from the differentiation of two cultures. In this case, the
narrator represents a westernized, modern mind while his sister is a model for a traditional Japanese
mindset.

Causes Of Food Insecurity In South Sudan
About South Sudan
South Sudan, officially called the Republic of South Sudan, is a county located in the north eastern
Africa.
About food crisis
Food is a human s right and it is necessary for human, and actually every living thing on this planet, to
survive. So for us human, food must be available, affordable and prepared.
South Sudan faces unprecedented levels of food insecurity, as nearly 4.9 million people about 40
percent of the country s population remain in urgent need of food assistance. According to the United
Nations office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs, the total number of people affected by
severe food insecurity in South Sudan between January and March 2016 got up to 2.8 million.
The Causes of the food crisis
Food shortages, a deepening economic crisis, insecurity and insufficient agricultural production at
household level have caused increased levels of food insecurity and alarming levels of acute
malnutrition.
There are two kinds of causes one is natural disaster the other cause is man made.
The natural disaster in the South Sudan is about the rainfall that is lacking and uneven. The average
annual rainfall in South Sudan is 254 millilitre per year. But the uneven rain falling on the country
made some areas of the country so arid that no one can grow any food there. For example, the rainfall
occurred mainly from mid June to September. So farmers will not be able to grow much in other times
of the year.
The man mad reason that caused the

Belgium, Dominican Republic, and Israel are members of the International Monetary Fund (IMF),
World Trade Organization (WTO) and World Bank. These organizations in their own right are trying
to improve the economy by facilitating internationals trading (IMF) , reducing poverty around the
world (IMF), ensuring that trading flows smoothly and freely (WTO) and providing financial advice
to assist in economic advancement (World Bank). Countries that are members of the IMF, WTO and
World Bank, in my opinion believe that working together , following the organizations guidelines, can
improve the economy. Belgium works with other international and regional organizations, to
encourage economic cooperation and assistance to developing countries. Belgium is a key provider of
humanitarian, reconstruction, and development assistance in Africa, Afghanistan, and Syria. Belgium
is also the host country of the European Union (EU) and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
and plays an important role in discussions between European foreign ministers and the Secretary of
State.
Dominican Republic, along with the United States as well as other Central American countries are part
of the Dominican Republic Central America United States Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA DR). This
agreement creates economic opportunities by eliminating tariffs, opening markets and reducing
barriers. It facilitates trade and investment among these countries and furthers regional integration.

The Theology Of The United Methodist Church
When I was 10 years old Rev. Holland Vaughn looked into my eyes and said, Michael, you are going
to be a pastor one day. I found his prophetic pronouncement humorous. One, because I had no
intention of ever becoming a pastor, and two because even at that age I was already running with
neighborhood gangs and engaged in very unchristian activities. As the acolyte, week after week I
carried my candle lighter and sat beside him on the altar. I watched the people laugh, cry, fall asleep,
and occasionally shout an enthusiastic amen! From the preacher s bench behind the pulpit. I observed
this master plie his trade, using tradition, experience, and reason, to bring the Bible to life.
Subconsciously I was reasoning through my own theology, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We draw from that depth of tradition reaching back to the church of Pentecost, including early creeds
(e.g., Apostles and Nicene Constantinopolitan), various church councils, journeys of Christian
pilgrims, and writings of Christian thinkers (Heb 12:1 2). This diverse witness has been shaped and
preserved over the centuries of Christian teaching and reflection on the Gospel. It contains the great
triumphs and epic failures of our tradition, both of which we can learn from. Next, our Christian
experience serves as a resource. The Book of Discipline defines Christian experience as the personal
appropriation of God s forgiving and empowering grace yet also highlights the necessary intersection
of the Bible and our experience, Our experience interacts with Scripture. We read Scripture in light of
the conditions and events that help shape who we are, and we interpret our experience in terms of
Scripture. Thus, while I read Scripture through the lens of my own formation, the Bible interprets my

The Effect Of Automatic Processes Interfering With...
Whether your mom is telling you a list of chores to do while you are watching your favorite TV show
or studying for an exam in a noisy room, these are common occurrences that may be affecting you in
ways you don t realize. What people may not know is how these instances could cause hindrances
when processing information; this is an underlying problem and has been known as interference.
When you have attention on more than one thing you may be experiencing interference and this can
inhibit cognitive processes. The effects of automatic processes interfering with controlled processes
have been known to have been tested through something called a Stroop experiment. The
revolutionary study by, Stroop (1935) used 5 different colors; purple, brown, green, blue, and red in a
color word naming task. Subjects had to say the color of the word while it was printed in different
color ink. For example, the word blue would be written in the color red. They first did this using the
colored words and then repeated the process with the words printed in black. They found that the
colored word condition suggested a 2.3s longer reaction time than the black word condition. This is
due to the inference of automatic word reading in the color word condition. Previous research also
suggests that there can be interference with the use of the symbol of an arrow or the written words
right and left in an experiment conducted by, Baldo, Shimamura, and Prinzmetal (1998). Their
findings suggested

Encryption Is The Mechanism Of Encoding Data
In a VPN, computers at the ends of the tunnel encrypt data entering the tunnel and decrypt data at the
other end. Encryption is the mechanism of encoding data so that only a device with the correct
decoder will know how to read and use it. Over time, new and better technologies have been
developed to use in networks, which improves the characteristics of VPNs. However, VPN specific
technologies like tunneling protocols, haven t changed much, because current VPNs do an excellent
job at keeping businesses globally connected, with a high level of security. Flexible working
Geographical barriers of companies can be erased with the implementation of VPN. This will enable
employees to work efficiently from home and allow businesses to connect securely with its vendors
and partners. Many organisations started by establishing intranets, which are private internal networks
designed for use only by company employees. By adding a VPN, a business can extend all its intranet
s resources to employees working from remote offices or their homes. Scalability Well designed VPNs
are extensible and scalable. The technology allows its adopters to use an easy to access Internet
infrastructure that grants new users to be added to the network quickly and with no hassle. This means
that organisations are able to acquire large amounts of capacity and usage with adding little or none
additional infrastructure. VPN can in fact expand to accommodate more users and different locations

Essay on Analysis of Tender Option Bonds
TOBs are synthetically created short term tax exempt instruments. A TOB sponsor will buy a portfolio
of fixed rate, long term municipal bonds with ratings between AAAAA and combine them with an
interest rate swap to create short term tax exempt floating rate bonds.
The tax exempt status creates a high level of demand particularly from investors who seek tax exempt
cash flow as a source of annual income and revenue. The buyers of TOBs are for the most part money
market mutual funds. Money market mutual funds are guided by certain regulations as to what type of
bonds they can have in their portfolio. Specifically, the underlying municipal bonds must be rated at
least AA . The maximum maturity of the municipal bonds is thirteen months and ... Show more

This is achieved by the investor bearing the default risk of the issuer on the underlying municipal
bond. Specifically, if the issuer of the underlying municipal bond defaults, the investor loses the right
to put the bonds to the liquidity bank and the liquidity facility is automatically reduced by the amount
of the bonds in default.
Interest Rate Swap
As indicated above, the sponsor (MLCS in Merrill s case) creates a TOB through the combination of a
long term municipal bond and an interest rate swap. The swap functions as a hedge to protect the
sponsor against the possibility of short term tax exempt rates increasing relative to the fixed coupons
on the underlying municipal bonds.
The sponsor enters into a swap where it pays a fixed rate which is below the coupon of the underlying
municipal bond (generally 100+bps under) and it receives a floating short term rate. The sponsor pays
out the floating short term rate from the swap to the TOB investors (plus an additional amount in the
range of 10bps). Out of the spread on the transaction (the difference between the fixed rate on the
municipal bond and the fixed rate on the swap, i.e.; the 100+bps noted above) the sponsor pays the
fees to the liquidity bank and the trustee. The balance after these expenses is paid out to the RITES
holders (historically about

The Cultural Elements Of Kaffir Boy By Mark Mathabane
The Cultural Elements of Kaffir Boy Kaffir Boy by Mark Mathabane is an incredibly complex novel
detailing the author s childhood and coming of age in a South Africa gripped by apartheid. It also
describes his steadfast pursuit of tennis as a means of escaping the aforementioned system that
legalized and even encouraged racism. Though the autobiography captures copious personal struggles
and internal conflicts, the elements of the text that truly stand out are the cultural ones these being the
elements of society, religion, and politics. The most prevalent of these cultural elements, and the first
one introduced to the reader, is the social element. On the very first page of chapter one, Mathabane
states that, The white man of South Africa certainly does not know me. He certainly does not know
the conditions under which I was born and had to live for eighteen years. So my story is intended to
show him with words a world he would otherwise not see because of a sign and a conscience racked
with guilt and to make him feel what I felt when he contemptuously called me a Kaffir boy.
(Mathabane 3). Issues of race and racism are the more frequently described types of social element in
Kaffir Boy , however, the power struggle between Mathabane s mother and father is also discussed.
When Mathabane s father is arrested or away for a long period of time, his mother seizes control of
the household. She brings in the food and the money. Upon the return of his father, she is

Similarities Between The Articles Of Confederation And The...
The United States has been progressively influenced under two foundations, better known as The
Articles of Confederation and the U.S Constitution. The first being the Articles of Confederation,
which was established on March 1, 1771. Henceforth, The Constitution restored the Articles on June
21, 1788. The differences and similarities between the two are pronounced, and they merit thorough
analysis.
Beginning with the Articles, this was the very first endeavor that systemized a national government in
the New World. After the United States declared its independence from Great Britain, the Articles
served as a written testimony which generally prohibited the states from carrying out their own foreign
diplomacy. The Albany Plan was a failed attempt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Directed by George Washington, the delegates signed the Constitution in 1787 in hopes of creating a
more stable and secure national government; securing fundamental rights for citizens. This well
founded plan implanted the government with three branches (executive, judicial and legislative), in
addition to a checks balances system that certified no particular branch would have more power over
another.
While both documents were created in hopes of unifying our states, they have several dissimilarities
and correlations. The biggest disconnection being that the Articles gave power to states respectively
with very little government dominance, whereas the Constitution granted prime authority to the
central government. Additionally, the Articles allowed one Congress to be given power, alike the
Constitution, yet not limited to. The Constitution allowed one power given Congress, the Senate and
the House of Representatives. In the process of ratifying both documents, consent was necessary.
However, the Articles necessitated an undisputed (unanimous) approval while the Constitution needed
compliance from only 9 out of the 13 states. Congress had to prepare a Bill of Rights to gain the
support for many of the states to adhere to the Constitution. From the voting, to the taxes, as well as
the amendments, and the laws, the Constitution serves as an upgrade of the Articles. On the other
hand, both documents were established

Analyse Interpersonal Communication
Communication is a vital part of having a successful workplace. More often than not, problems in the
workplace are caused by miscommunication, or a lack of communication. The most common form of
communication used in the workplace, especially a small family business, is interpersonal
communication. But what is interpersonal communication? Communication, as defined by the
Australian concise oxford dictionary, 6th edition, is The act of imparting, esp. news (p. 280). While
interpersonal is defined as Occurring between persons, esp. reciprocally (p. 738). Therefore,

In her TEDx talk, 10 ways to have a better conversation, Celeste Headlee (2015), says that the most
important part of a conversation is being able to listen. If you cannot listen, there is no way for you to
understand what the other person is trying to convey with their words. In a small family business,
listening is an essential skill for every member of the team to have. Unlike a big company, such as
McDonalds, in a family business everyone has the same level of seniority. There are no clear roles,
this means that interpersonal communication, listening in particular, is an even more important
consideration in a small family business. If the family and their employees cannot communicate well
there would not a business to manage for much longer. A family business, especially one just hanging
on, could potentially go out of business... Another rule that Headlee (2015) says will lead to a better
conversation is if you do not know, say that you do not know. Recently, I was training a new
employee, instead of asking for help, this person would just assume things. It took my co workers and
myself a while to realise that she was putting things away in incorrect spots and telling customers

Clathrin-Mediated Endocytosis
1 Clathrin Mediated Endocytosis
In this method, the binding of the virion to host receptors triggers Clathrin mediated endoycytosis. The
virion attachment to the host receptor causes the binding of an adaptor protein to the
receptorcytoplasmic tail. Adaptor proteins bind to clathrin, and the local concentration of adaptor
proteins onthe inside face of the plasma membrane allows clathrin to multimerize to form Clathrin
Coated Pit(CCP). GTPase dynamin pinch off the CCP from the host membrane thereby releasing the
Clathrin Coated Vesicle (CCV). Auxilin and hsc70 release the clathrin basket. The vesicle then
delivers itsviral content to early endosomes. Endosomal carrier vesicles transport contents of early
endosometo late endosome that is near to nucleus. Then, late endosome fuses with lysosome.decrease

The Safety Techniques And Management Strategies Essay
In today s world, coal is the most commonly used fossil fuel. The coal present in the Pike River Coal
Mine had some distinctive qualities. It was bright, lustrous coking coal with several properties that
was sought after by the international steel makers. They used coke as a source of fuel for blasting
furnaces and carbon was used to bind with iron to produce steel. Therefore, Pike coal s unique
property of producing low ash and high fluidity made it potentially valuable resource.
Underground mining is very hazardous due to some reasons like lack of fresh air, poor ventilation,
poor lighting and high level of poisonous gas. Thus, several safety precautions should be taken for the
well being of the miners. Due to lack of these safety precautions and poor management strategies, on
19th November 2010 an explosion at Pike River Coal Mine left 29 miners dead. This report will
further discuss on the safety techniques and management strategies taken by the three protagonists of
Pike River Coal Mine the managers, the state and the workers.

Outsourcing is one of the important management strategy that provides wider access to world class
capabilities and share risks with a partner company. Outsourcing in mining industry depends on two

The Temporary Assistance For Needy Families Essay
In 1996 the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) block grant was created as a way to
provide assistance to needy families and to end the dependence on government benefits through
encouraging job preparation, marriage with the formation of two parent families, and work. In reality,
TANF has created a weakened safety net and provides less protection for individuals facing poverty. It
grants less assistance than before to lessen poverty and the hardship that comes along with it. The
policy has become more of a Band Aid that is continually ripped off due to its sanctions and
requirements revealing the same deeper issues that were there in the first place. Families are stuck in a
hole of poverty where they cannot climb out of, and policies like TANF help to maintain it. Since the
year 2000, poverty in the U.S has been on the rise, especially the increase in deep poverty. The
number of families in deep poverty rose from 2.7 million to 3 million between 1996 and 2013. This is
an extremely important issue that we are currently facing in our country. More time and effort needs to
be spent on both the creation and reformation of policies like TANF to help combat this rising issue in
our country.
In 1996 the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) block grant was created under the
Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996. This grant was a part of

Critical Analysis Of Steven Pinker s In Defense Of...
In disagreements, the goal is to persuade others to believe and think the same way you do. The way to
lure them to your side is to find ways to make your argument stand out, and make them really think
about why they felt the way they did, to begin with. Steven Pinker, a psychologist, and professor
wrote an essay called, In Defense of Dangerous Ideas, where he argues that dangerous ideas are only
considered to be dangerous to those who believe in the label society has given them. Pinker defines
dangerous ideas as being, ideas that are denounced not because they are self evidently false, nor
because they advocate harmful action, but because they are thought to corrode the prevailing moral
order. Pinker uses this essay to attempt to effectively argue that dangerous ideas are only that if people
allow them to control how what is said makes them feel. Pinker uses poor terminology, sarcastic tone,
and poor ethos through lack of structure, making his argument ineffective.
Ethos has a great impact on the argument due to when and how the author s language is used to make
is points as strong as possible, and the author Pinker has an issue with this. His use of language, his
diction, come off very aggressive. Pinker chooses the words he uses carefully throughout the essay to
intentionally try to offend the audience. He starts off his essay with a list of questions that he hopes to

that thrive on servant leadership models and creating a positive environment for growth. Other
organizations focus on putting the customer first. In this essay, an analysis will take place on airline

Greenland Norse Collapse
The Choices Societies Make and the Challenges Surrounding Them The choices the Greenland Norse,
the people of Easter Island, and the people of Haiti made directly contributed to their societal collapse.
Their environmental fragility advanced their downfall, but ultimately their poor decision making led
to their collapse. The Greenland Norse s and people of Easter Island s incorrect choices were mostly
due to social challenges and reluctance to abandon traditions, but the incorrect choices of the Haitian
people were due to selfness and impulsiveness. The Greenland Norse are an excellent example of a
society that has collapsed because of the choices they have made, but they also serve as an example of
a society who suffered great challenges when considering these alternative solutions. In particular, the
Greenland Norse s lack of adaptability in the decision s they favored regarding hunting, livestock, the
relationship with the Inuit, and the need for European identity drove their society to a collapse. The
Norse came to Greenland with traditional hunting and livestock customs such as growing hay to feed

Understanding Leadership And Empowerment Of The Workplace
Annotation
Ba, B. G. M. (2015). Understanding leadership and empowerment in the workplace. European
Scientific Journal, 11(35), 342.
Critical Summary of Article Employee empowerment has become an important strategic tool used by
leaders of the 21st century. According to Ba (2015), a recent change in management style has led to
the empowerment of employees in the workplace creating a situation where empowering followers is
an assumed responsibility of all leaders and thought to be a motivational tactic. The relationship
between leaders and employee has become more strategic than anytime in business due to
globalization. Leaders must understand how to use employee empowerment. Ba suggest, a negative
view of a leader can hinder performance; therefore, exploring the aspects that guide followers to
develop a positive image of their leader establishes desirable outcomes, and can create a positive view
of a leader. Employee empowerment is tested to see if it is the key in aligning organizations systems,

Hell In Othello
Othello and I Heaven and Hell could be seen side by side however, how a person goes through it could
show which side they re actually on. Othello and I unexpectedly saw heaven and hell at the same place
at the same time. We saw it by being the outsiders. Being myself, I was insulted when I was treated as
an extraterrestrial. On the other hand, Othello was manipulated into thinking that he did not deserve
his position and wife due to his differences. Although, we were degraded due to our differences we
dealt with it differently.
Moving to the United States from the Philippines at age 10 was heaven and hell for me. I moved
around the Fall time, which meant that I instantly fell in love with the sight of bright orange leaves

He was a North African that lived in Venice, where the population was mostly white men. He s had his
share of heaven and hell also. His heaven was living in Venice as highly respected general and the
husband of Desdemona, the Venetian senator. Although his life seemed perfect, his skin color told
otherwise. His heaven was his hell. Act 3 scene 3 lines 283 320 exploits his hidden hell; insecurities.
Haply for I am black and have not those soft parts of conversation that chamberers have, in other
words, the reason my wife if cheating on me is most likely because I am black and do not act like
courtiers. Othello s s caused him to not only be seen as an outsider but also lead him into feeling
insecure and suspect his wife of cheating. The reason being that Othello suspects his wife of cheating
since he believes that she got tired of him especially due to his skin color and lack of manners like the
courtiers. Leading him to kill his wife and himself. Before killing himself this last dialogue, Speak of
me as I am. Nothing extenuate, Nor set down aught in malice, (5.2.402 403), unveils that Othello
realized his mistake; letting his insecurities and Iago get to him. The realization that could have saved
his wife; accepting and being proud of who he was, rather than being self conscious. Therefore, he
learns his mistake and becomes proud of who he has become and admits his mistakes. Rather than
sugar coating or lying about who he is, he wanted his peers to tell the truth of who he really was and

  • 2. Bruce Dawe Consumerism Good afternoon/morning ladies and gentlemen. Consumerism is defined by the English oxford dictionary as continual expansion of one s wants and needs for goods and services. Bruce Dawes poems Televistas and Enter Without So Much As Knocking critique the powerful and persuasive influence that companies have on our society. Consumerism leads to self gratification and the loss of life s important values such as friendship, love and religion; this is an ever growing issue that manipulates and deceives society and has done so since the beginning of the technological age. Bruce Dawes poetry highlights his concerns and devotion towards the ordinary consumer and how easily manipulated and rocked by the media they may be. He does this through the use of ironic humor, cliché, hyperbole and many other language features that are extensively used in his poetry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem Enter without so much as knocking begins with the innocence of a baby being exposed to the harsh materialistic world seconds after birth. The capitalization of the words HOSPITAL SILENCE presents the idea of sings which are controlling the way we live. This is reinforced further into the poem when the baby is considered an adult and is truly introduced to the consumerism of the society. Capitalized words again represent the words the man reads on signs. Dawe mocks these signs by including NO BREATHING EXCEPT BY ORDER which is using irony, as it is impossible to be able to control when people can and cant breathe. At the end of the poem the non capitalization of the world silence shows that it is silence rather than a gins demanding silence. As Brian Tracy said: Your ability to manage your time, as much as any other practice in your career as an executive, will determine your success or failure. Time is the one indispensable and irreplaceable resource of accomplishment. It is your most precious asset. It cannot be saved, nor can it be recovered once lost. Everything you have to do requires time, and the better you use your time, the more you will accomplish, and the greater will be your rewards. • 8. Socrates s Views On Socrates Socrates could undeniably be described as one of the most influential philosophers and greatest thinker of his time. His views can be interpreted many different ways, but most would agree that he sought out wisdom and truth for the betterment of himself and his community. Though Socrates was one of the most intelligent men of his time, he was very foolish to never write his own book. For this reason, after his passing, one of his students, Plato, began to write a book about his teachings and ideas called Plato: Five Dialogues. In this book, we examined Plato s Meno in which Meno asks Socrates can virtue be taught? but, Socrates quickly transforms this question into what is virtue? . This questions ultimately consumes the entirety of this dialogue, and in the end, Meno proves to lack originality in his arguments by simply agreeing with each thing Socrates states. While Meno thought he knew the answer to this question, Socrates provides a different opinion. Although Meno does not learn anything in the course of this dialogue, Socrates still remains one of the most influential teachers and philosophers of his time. In this essay I shall focus on the question of who is Socrates, next I will examine what teaching and learning really mean, and finally I will conclude with the fact that Meno does not actually learn anything from Socrates. Or rather, does society need restrictions to limit how science is to be used? Literature and historical events both point to the single truth that society, not science, must be checked. Through his point of view, the reader navigates through the tyranny of Big Brother and the dilapidating society around him which is constantly at war with the two other nations in the world. The world as Winston knows it is controlled by four institutions: The Ministry of Love (which tortures people), The Ministry of Truth (which changes the past), The Ministry of Peace (which funds/supports the war), and The Ministry of Plenty (which is continually imposing ration systems). In Winston s world, literature has been destroyed, most old artifacts have been seized, emotion has been squelched and abandoned, and language is shortened through a new language, Newspeak. In charge of all this is Big Brother, a figurehead who everyone is brainwashed into admiring. And just like Brave New World, many readers analyze and infer from 1984 that science has caused these problems, and that discoveries in computer science may cause the stone that past was written on to melt away. However, once again, science is only able to generate knowledge; what society chooses to do with the information must be monitored and limited by society itself. • 24. The Theology Of The United Methodist Church When I was 10 years old Rev. Holland Vaughn looked into my eyes and said, Michael, you are going to be a pastor one day. I found his prophetic pronouncement humorous. One, because I had no intention of ever becoming a pastor, and two because even at that age I was already running with neighborhood gangs and engaged in very unchristian activities. As the acolyte, week after week I carried my candle lighter and sat beside him on the altar. I watched the people laugh, cry, fall asleep, and occasionally shout an enthusiastic amen! Whether your mom is telling you a list of chores to do while you are watching your favorite TV show or studying for an exam in a noisy room, these are common occurrences that may be affecting you in ways you don t realize. What people may not know is how these instances could cause hindrances when processing information; this is an underlying problem and has been known as interference. When you have attention on more than one thing you may be experiencing interference and this can inhibit cognitive processes. The effects of automatic processes interfering with controlled processes have been known to have been tested through something called a Stroop experiment. The revolutionary study by, Stroop (1935) used 5 different colors; purple, brown, green, blue, and red in a color word naming task. Subjects had to say the color of the word while it was printed in different color ink. For example, the word blue would be written in the color red. They first did this using the colored words and then repeated the process with the words printed in black. They found that the colored word condition suggested a 2.3s longer reaction time than the black word condition. This is due to the inference of automatic word reading in the color word condition. Previous research also suggests that there can be interference with the use of the symbol of an arrow or the written words right and left in an experiment conducted by, Baldo, Shimamura, and Prinzmetal (1998). A TOB sponsor will buy a portfolio of fixed rate, long term municipal bonds with ratings between AAAAA and combine them with an interest rate swap to create short term tax exempt floating rate bonds. The tax exempt status creates a high level of demand particularly from investors who seek tax exempt cash flow as a source of annual income and revenue. This is achieved by the investor bearing the default risk of the issuer on the underlying municipal bond. Specifically, if the issuer of the underlying municipal bond defaults, the investor loses the right to put the bonds to the liquidity bank and the liquidity facility is automatically reduced by the amount of the bonds in default. Interest Rate Swap As indicated above, the sponsor (MLCS in Merrill s case) creates a TOB through the combination of a long term municipal bond and an interest rate swap. The swap functions as a hedge to protect the sponsor against the possibility of short term tax exempt rates increasing relative to the fixed coupons on the underlying municipal bonds. The sponsor enters into a swap where it pays a fixed rate which is below the coupon of the underlying municipal bond (generally 100+bps under) and it receives a floating short term rate. The sponsor pays out the floating short term rate from the swap to the TOB investors (plus an additional amount in the range of 10bps). Out of the spread on the transaction (the difference between the fixed rate on the municipal bond and the fixed rate on the swap, i.e.; the 100+bps noted above) the sponsor pays the fees to the liquidity bank and the trustee. While both documents were created in hopes of unifying our states, they have several dissimilarities and correlations. Clathrin-Mediated Endocytosis 1 Clathrin Mediated Endocytosis In this method, the binding of the virion to host receptors triggers Clathrin mediated endoycytosis. The virion attachment to the host receptor causes the binding of an adaptor protein to the receptorcytoplasmic tail. Adaptor proteins bind to clathrin, and the local concentration of adaptor proteins onthe inside face of the plasma membrane allows clathrin to multimerize to form Clathrin Coated Pit(CCP). GTPase dynamin pinch off the CCP from the host membrane thereby releasing the Clathrin Coated Vesicle (CCV). Auxilin and hsc70 release the clathrin basket. The vesicle then delivers itsviral content to early endosomes. Endosomal carrier vesicles transport contents of early endosometo late endosome that is near to nucleus.
