Queenie in A P
Flat characters are minor characters in a work of fiction who do not undergo substantial change or
growth in the course of a story. A minor character in a story is not the leader of the story, they are a
supporting character to the protagonist and they give a contrast to the protagonist in a story. In the
story A P by John Updike, the story begins by illustrating Sammy as a young cashier who is cynical
and loathsome of his current situation. He is infatuated by a pretty young girl, the minor character,
who is referred to as Queenie. Queenie is very important in this story because of the conflicts she
causes. Queenie enters the story when she walks into the local A P grocery store with her friends
wearing nothing but bathing suits. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

by exclaiming he quits as the girls are walking out of the door. He does this because he hopes the girls

Contradictions Of Imperialism In George Orwell s Shooting...
Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is a narrative essay that tells about a time that he had to kill
an elephant, but he had many challenges when deciding to do so. Orwell had situations that he had to
go through, and he also had to make very contemplating choices within himself. It s almost as if the
elephant s death determined his fate. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell states, I was young and ill
educated and I had had to think out my problems in the utter silence that is imposed on every
Englishmen in the East. (page 1) This hints that Orwell will obviously come into some predicaments
that will determine the state of his manhood. Orwell had several occasions where he contradicted
himself and his beliefs. These contradictions involved Imperialism, the Burmese people, and killing
the elephant.
In Shooting an Elephant Orwell contradicts himself about Imperialism. In the essay Imperialism is
well influenced in Burma. Orwell is a British police officer sent to Burma to enforce imperialism
among the Burmese people. At the time Orwell is very young and has no experience in his position as
a police officer. Soon after he got to Burma he begins to despise his job. Almost everyday he had to
witness prisoners in filthy cages and men tortured. He felt that he was doing the dirty work of the
government. Orwell emotions went into an uproar and he begins to feel a sense of hatred for
Imperialism. Orwell says Imperialism is an evil thing but he still works to enforce its mission. This
can be very confusing because he hates the job that he has to do, how he is treated because of his job,
and what people think of him because of what he is working for.
Orwell futhers to contradict himself and the maturity of his manhood with his relationship with the
Burmese people. When he finally arrives he is hated and taunted by the Burmese people. He would be
humiliated in front of crowds at football games and young men would sneer at him every chance they
would get. Orwell also says he would feel a great joy to drive a bayonet into a Buddhist priest s guts.
This statement would make the reader believe he hates the Burmese. At this point in the essay Orwell
starts to contradict himself again by secretly expressing a

Canadian Television Identity
A recurring theme throughout Canadian television studies is identifying the relationship between
television and national identity. There is a political ideology that suggests support of national culture is
crucial to the existence and well being of the nation (Matheson, 2015). There is often assumed a
linkage between culture and a sense of national belonging and citizenship throughout Canadian
television series as a way to influence cultural nationalism. Within the Canadian competitive cooking
game show MasterChef Canada, Canadian paradigms of ethnicity and national identity are created
through the challenges and responsibilities participants are asked to perform during the series.

Nationalism is based on groups of persons sharing a similarity of culture (Ebanda de B beri

manufactured to represent all Canadians, locally and globally. It represents a version of Canadian
identity that generates both affective feelings of regional belonging and a global sense of
identification. MasterChef Canada, a Canadian television show provided by the CTV Television

What Are The Eight Assumptions Of Family Systems Theory
Smith and Hamon, chapter 5, discussed Family Systems Theory (FST), which I found to be not only
insightful, but also beneficial to me as I assess my patients and their families, but also as I reflect upon
my own family. FST addresses eight assumptions which I found to be engaging and shine light on how
families function and how we as APNs might begin to look at the family dynamic in order to better
assist these families cope with the stressors of life while at the same time address their family needs in
a productive and meaningful way. The following are the eight assumptions of the FST, 3 of which I

Ab Isotype Switching Case Study
Before encountering an antigen, a naïve B cell expresses both IgM and IgD on its surface. A single
transcript of VDJ CμCδ is alternatively spliced to yield either the μ or the δ heavy chains.
There is no DNA switch region before the Cδ gene. Switch regions are found in DNA upstream of
each constant region gene (except in the δ chain). Ab isotype switching occurs by recombination
between switch regions (S), with deletion of the intervening DNA, and must occur before functional
transcripts of these genes are made. Isotype switching requires the enzyme AID, which is expressed in
B lymphocytes in response to signals from T cells

Foils Of Fortinbras In Hamlet
A story would go nowhere without the characters making something happen. Characters are used for
everything in a story, they set the scene, make the plot happen, and everything inbetween.
Characterization is a major deal for writers because without proper characterization, the plot will not
be able to go the way they want it to. This is also a big factor for the play, Hamlet, by William
Shakespeare. He uses so many different characters to really push certain things to the audience, and to
make the reader understand it so well. The use of the foils, which is the use of two completely
opposite characters, in the play really helps get across the point that Shakespeare wants to convey to
the reader . Without the use of these foils, the play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hamlet, and make sure he was making the right decisions, but Hamlet was very quick to make

was not quick to avenge his father s death, was quick to many other actions, and Horatio was a lot
more guarded on what he thought Hamlet should do. Without Horatio, no one would have been
watching out for Hamlet, Horatio was used to be an example of just how cautious Hamlet should have

Bronx Zoo Research Paper
The Bronx Zoo: Welcome To The Jungle Where in the world can you see grizzly bears wrestling in the
water, giraffes walking through the grass, and penguins playing in the snow, all in a span of a few
minutes? How can you experience incredible and exotic animals without traveling across the world?
Lucky for us New Yorkers, we can experience the jungle without even leaving the area! Welcome to
the Bronx Zoo.
The Bronx Zoo was founded on November 8, 1899, by the Boone and Crockett Club which was later
renamed the Wildlife Conservation Society. On opening day the zoo boasted a whopping 843 animals
in 22 exhibits. The zoo borders the south side of the New York Botanical Garden. The land on which

This was the first animal hospital in the United States of America to be located in a zoo. In 1941 the
zoo got a brand new ambulance specifically for animals. There is a famous photo of veterinarian
Leonard Gross standing in front of the new ambulance holding a lion cub. In 1985, a new animal
hospital was built. This new hospital was over ten times the size of the first one. Since medicine and
technology have changed in major ways over the years, the new animal hospital also has been updated
and modernized to keep with the times (Thompson 1). I m sure many animals have had their lives
saved by this incredible hospital. A unique thing about the physical property and architecture of The
Bronx Zoo is that there are several New York City landmarks, located within its walls. The biggest
one in the park is the area from the Rainey Gate entrance on Fordham Road which was landmarked in

Suspense In Agatha Christie s And Then There Were None
Most people would thoroughly enjoy a stay on an exotic private island and then afterwards return to
their normal life. However, this is not the case for the ten main characters of Agatha Christie s novel
And Then There Were None. While they have been invited to Indian Island, an island off the Devon
Coast of England, they are never again able to leave it. Each of the ten people has murdered somebody
and has not received consequences for it. Justice Wargrave, the killer, feels that it is his duty to serve
justice on them. He carefully develops a plan to lure each person to Indian Island, an island off the
Devon Coast of England, in order to round everyone up in one place and ultimately kill them. Through

To begin with the nursery rhyme, Ten Little Indian Boys , that hangs on the wall in each of the
characters rooms creates suspense. Each person dies in a way similar to one of the deaths in each verse
of the rhyme. The nursery rhyme is scary, as it speaks of death, and foreshadows that the characters on
the island may die soon. At first the people on the island laugh and call the nursery rhyme remarkably
childish. (39) However, they soon start fearing it. If one person dies the same way as in the nursery
rhyme, it may just be a coincidence. As more people die similarly to the nursery rhyme the reader
realizes that the deaths are not accidental. In this way, Christie turns a fun and lighthearted rhyme into
a dark and ominous one. This creates a sense of unease as the reader and the characters begin to
wonder who the next person will be to die and how their death will connect to the rhyme.

The French Revolution of 1789 Essay
There is no doubt that the French Revolution has had a profound effect on the world. The cause or
causes of it have been greatly disputed. Clearly the Revolution s primary cause was the presence of a
weak monarchy and a lack of a stable system of government. France s absolute monarchy had many
changes toward the end of the eighteenth century. King Louis XVI, in his attempts to consolidate his
authority and lessen the power of the aristocrats, had planned out an intendant system. The intendants
were like governors. They would oversee one constituency of the country. These intendants could not
govern the region in which they lived, and were chosen from other than the aristocracy. This insured
that their allegiance was pledged to the king and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were three divisions or classes in France called estates. The first estate, which was composed of
church officials, had immense authority and obtained enormous salaries. Church officials obtained
their salaries via taxes collected from church property. Therefore, since the officials received their
salaries from the church property, they did not have to pay taxes. The second estate was composed
mainly of nobility. They, too, were exempt from paying taxes. This left the entire tax burden upon the
third estate. The third estate consisted of some merchants and entrepreneurs; however, the majorities
were peasants. Corruption of the estates was causing much frustration among the common people who
composed 70 percent of the population. The monarchy tried to make an attempt to give the third estate
power by establishing the Estate s General, but this too was corrupted. Unlike most legislative bodies,
the Estate s General did not vote by each person having a single vote. Rather, they let each estate have
one vote each. Since the first two estates were always in agreement, the third estate was always out
voted. This is a prime example of how the lack of a stable government had an immensely tragic effect
on the people of the country. If the monarchy had tried to make some reform or if Louis XVI had more
backbone to institute some tax reform to lessen the burden on the third estate, the Revolution may
have been avoided. The government is the backbone of any

Critical Analysis Of Requiem For A Dream
Requiem for a Dream is a 2000 psychological drama directed by Darren Aronofsky. The story follows
four characters as they struggle with, and eventually succumb to their different addictions. This leads
to the characters imprisonment in a world of delusions and reckless desperation that is eventually
overtaken by reality. The film makes effective use of imagery and sound to create the feeling of the
film reeling towards the end at an impossible pace. By the end of the movie, the characters are
completely changed: withered, broken, and alone. Requiem for a Dream was screened at the 2000
Cannes film festival, and was met with primarily positive reviews.
Darren Aronofsky created the feeling of the film speeding up by shortening the length of the scenes as
the film progresses. At the beginning of the movie scenes are 90 seconds to 2 minutes in length, and it
s by shortening the length of scenes and frames that he created a sense of unease within the audience.
It s also reflective of the emotional states of the characters. At the beginning of the film, the characters
aren t necessarily too far gone to be saved. They still have time for each other, for their future, and
their plans. But as the scenes shorten their chances of saving themselves become slimmer. They
characters find themselves more and more alone as they becomes slaves to their addiction, doing
whatever they can to get their next fix.
Requiem for a dream is split between two primary narratives which center on

The Perils Of Keeping Monkey As Pets
Write your Title/Topic:
You think you re ready for a pet? I wouldn t monkey around with that decision!
Background/Context Paragraph
How cool would it be to own a exotic pet, like a monkey! As stated by i.life.science.com, between
5,000 and 7,000 tigers are kept as pets. That s more than the amount in the wild, being only 3,200.
WOW! Additionally, monkeys are also very popular pets, the National Geographic article titled The
Perils of Keeping Monkey as Pets , states that about 15,000 primates are kept as pets in the USA.
There are many different types of exotic pets kept worldwide.
Chimps and monkeys are very similar animals, yet they are also very different. Chimpanzees are
considered great apes. Great Apes tend to generaly have bigger brains and bodies than monkeys.
Chimps are more related to humans then monkeys They are similar when it comes to being primates.
Today we will be discussing both chimpanzees and monkeys as pets. Although, we will mostly be
talking about monkeys!
Most monkeys kept as pets are pulled from their mothers and taken in by breeders, zoos, and other
animal selling locations. The monkeys are very young when they are taken in. They are eventually put
up for sale and bought once they reach an ideal age. Jay Weston from Huffpost LA who owned two
monkeys says, No, I do not recommend anyone ever to keep a monkey as a pet.

African Americans And Reconstruction Essay
Throughout the duration of the Civil War in 1861 to the 1920s, African Americans made significant
strides toward their advancement in America and toward equity with whites. After having being
subjected to white governance and enslaved for so long, their dependence generated a sense of
unfamiliarity with their newly acquired emancipation. This uncertainty sparked many debates
regarding the most effectual way to go about receiving their inalienable rights as human beings, not
merely substandard Negros as they were perceived to be. However, some thought that the most
effective approach would be to acquiesce to the subservient status upheld by whites in order to earn
their respect until equity permeated. Others were more combative in their ... Show more content on

Moreover, the subsequent time period following the war was deemed the period of Reconstruction, a
time of mending a restoration after the detriment of war. However, it was during that time that
southern whites attempted to regress back to enslavement by perpetuating their preeminence over
blacks and instituting restraints on the rights of the freshly freedmen. Such measures as the Black
Codes and the KKK were implemented within the South to regulate the actions of African Americans
as though they were in slavery but without the security of safety that comes with being considered
property. Though chattel slavery had been abolished, the abruptness of its termination left several
pertinent issues unresolved in relation to the status of African Americans. The terms of the war only
required the southern states to remove the succession clause from their state constitutions. However, in
spite of its connotation of brutality, the period of Reconstruction was also beneficial in some repute as
it established public education for both blacks and whites. Although their predicament didn t improve
much, gradually there was a transformation in the manner in which African Americans regarded
themselves. This self realization is what

Midwestern English Is Also Diverse Enough To Have...
Midwestern English is also diverse enough to have sub varieties of English within the region. There
are two notable sub varieties: Yooper English and Iron Range English. Yooper English is spoken in the
Upper Peninsula of Michigan and is heavily affected by the Canadian Raising. While the origin of the
term Yooper is ambiguous, speakers of this sub dialect sound more like Northern Canadian speakers
than English speakers from the Dakotas. Iron Range English is along the Minnesotan coast of Lake
Superior, and developed when the region was mined for iron and taconite. This dialect is heavily

However, Fargo is not a well known movie among younger generations, and this stereotyping seems
to be dying out.
The second is the overriding concept that Midwestern English is inherently accent less, when
compared to other variations of English within the United States. While Midwestern English is distinct
enough to be included in many hand drawn dialect maps of the US, the Midwestern accent is often
labeled as unknown accent (Hartley 2005) (Preston et al 2002). This is because many people outside
of the Midwest believe that the region has no distinguishable accent or linguistic feature to stereotype
(Preston et al 2002). As much of the Midwest was (and continues to be) agriculturally based, there are
very few distinct working class accents, as are common in New York City (Hartley 2005).
In US mainstream culture, there is a tradition of associating the Midwest with General American
English (Preston et al 2002) (Joos 1942) (Lippi Green 2012). Consequently, there are many who refer
to Midwestern English as the most accurate variation of English pronunciation in the United States
(Preston et al 2002). This is, understandably, a very dangerous assumption to make. First, individual
regions in the US are unified by a relatively common accent: Texas has the Texan accent, Southern
states have the Southern accent, the Southwestern states have the Western accent and so on (Lippi
Green 2012). By identifying the Midwest as

International Financial Accounting Standards Board
Introduction
With the number of countries that have switched to the International Financial Reporting Standards
(IFRS) for their financial reporting, as well as the continued efforts made between the IFRS and US
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), it is evident that international convergence is
an overall appealing idea for global reporting. With that said, for decades now US GAAP has worked
with IFRS to create a universal standard; and while progress has been made to diminish variances
between the standards, there are still large, if not unattainable efforts ahead of us. The hype over a
proposed uniform set of global accounting standards appears to be stunted by the lost efforts in the
convergence project between the US GAAP and IFRS. As the Financial Accounting Standards Board
(FASB) moves forward with its standards setting, there must be a reevaluation of the goal for
reporting standards and efforts with the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).
Opinions regarding the optimal direction for the standards boards vary amongst regulators,
practitioners, and academics. Many will argue in support to continue efforts for a uniform set of global
accounting standards and believe this will drive more efficient international business. Those in favor
of a global standard consider it to be in global best interest, and that the standard is worth pursuing for
the long term benefit considering the increasing prevalence of cross border transactions. I agree

A Vegetarian Diet Is The Best Possible Diet For A Person...
A vegan diet is the best possible diet for a person because it prevents diseases. In Sarah Barns view,
Vegans and vegetarians typically have... a lower risk of death from heart disease, and lower overall
cancer rates. Science and research confirms that you don t need meat to be healthy at all, in fact
statistics point to quite the opposite ( Live Longer, Boost Immunity, Slim Down: 10 Reasons Why You
Should Go Vegan In 2015, Daily Express par. 3). Basically, Sarah Barns is saying that having a vegan
or vegetarian diet will decrease the chances of dying from heart disease. This demonstrates that dying
from heart disease is prevented by having a lack of unhealthy fat in the body. Unhealthy fat gets
trapped in the arteries, which clogs them. When the arteries are clogged, it can lead to a heart attack or
a stroke. Clearly, having a vegan diet will contribute to the prevention of heart disease. Hope

The Energy Of Solar Energy
The U.S. Energy Future is one of the most talked about subjects in science. There are many different
types of alternative energy to using fossil fuels. Scientists have warned the population that the fossil
fuels that we current use for our main fuel source may run out in less than 100 years (James Trefil
Robert Hazen, 2013). While the fossil fuels are readily available to our current generations, we need to
start making great results in switching our main energy source to more renewable energy for our
future generations. I have researched a few of the most popular alternative energy sources for the U.S.
future.
One area of US Energy Future that has been in place for some time now is Solar Energy. Solar energy
was first developed in 1954 by Daryle Chapin, Gerald Pearson and Calvin Fuller in the form of silicon
photovoltaic cells. In 1958 the solar energy field took off. The Vanguard 1 weather satellite used solar
power to power the radios and other equipment on the spacecraft. After the successful 1 year mission
using the solar power, the Lunar Lander, Mars Viking Mission, Hubble Telescope and the Space
Shuttle all used solar power on their crafts (OSU Test Report, 2015). Some of the problems with solar
energy were the high cost of development and the amount of land that was needed for the solar fields
to be used and where to store the energy. One another problem was the weather being unpredictable.
The lack of sunlight would lower the amount of solar

Inside of bacteria, there are many cells within them that each form a specific function that helps to aid

Intentional Revolutions is organizational change that requires people to examine and alter the basic
assumptions driving and supporting the present state of their organizational life. It is about change that
asks people to do things in dramatically new and different ways, as opposed to making small
improvements in current practices. The requirements for remaining competitive often include sharp
breaks with past beliefs and practices. There is need for organizations of all kinds to make
discontinuous changes in significant aspects of their being. To make revolution is to attack values and
practices that are valued or cherished or accepted within the prevailing culture. Slide 1 Transformation

environment lead to understanding that the traditional response modes, such as downsizing and
piecemeal structural process rearrangements, no longer provide sufficient competitive edge.

Non Pharmacological Methods Are Effective For Reducing...
Introduction
Painful procedures are common for premature infants and research has found that non
pharmacological methods are effective in reducing pain signs. Pain is subjective and difficult to
measure unless vocalized, as infants are unable to verbalize their pain, their management in regards to
pain relief is suboptimal (who.int). It has been documented in many studies that premature babies of a
gestation of less than 32 weeks are subjected to approximately between 10 and 15 painful procedures
in their first few weeks of life and more than 80% of those procedures are performed without pain
relief (Stevens et al, 2003).
When premature infants are exposed to long term pain they enter into a state of passivity, with
decreased movement, no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early studies of neurological development showed that preterm infant perception of localized pain was
non existent. It was also thought that neonates were incapable of remembering painful experiences and
therefore, they were not considered of understanding pain in the same way as adults (Urso, 2007).
This understanding came from four misconceptions about the neonatal physiology. The first being that
the neonatal CNS was immature, the second was that nerve fibers required myelination process in pain
perception, the third was that infants did not have pain receptors and the fourth was that premature
babies were unable to remember painful experiences (Urso, 2007).
It is known that premature infants with immature development experience pain especially those
needing surgical treatment or those who spend time in neonatal intensive. Knowing how to manage
neonatal care is a challenge for healthcare professionals as it is difficult to measure and due to the fact
that neonatal systems are more immature than those of older patients. It is also known that experience
of pain in early life can have an effect on pain perception later on in life.
Analgesia used can combat pain experienced by neonates. The most commonly pharmacological pain
relief used for neonates are paracetamol, opioids, most commonly morphine and fentanyl and local
analgesia. It is noted that as well as pharmacological

The Fate Of The Furious
Elisa Hansen
April 21, 2017
Introduction
The movie that I decided to review was The Fate of the Furious. This is the 8th film in the Fast and the
Furious series. I was finally able to see this film on April 21, 2017 at 7 o clock in the evening at The
Junction Megaplex theatre in Ogden, Utah. This movie is directed by F Gary Gray and the music
editor is Brain Tyler. Dominic Toretto (Dom) and his newly wedded wife Letty are celebrating their
honeymoon in Cuba and don t return to the United States. Dom then went into town to get some
groceries and discovers a lady named Cipher trying to fix her vehicle. While Dom is looking at what is
missing, the lady addresses Dom by his name. She wants to work with him and shows him something

At the top of the walls, there were curtains of thick fabrics and layers of material help absorb sound
while providing a decorative touch that improves your impression of the establishment as a whole.
These curtains were also a charcoal gray color to make the wall took seamless. The stairs were
covered in carpet and were lit so that people could see where they were going if they had to leave
while the movie was on. There was painted flooring underneath each of the chairs.
The chairs were a black leather fabric. There were about 75 chairs that were actually recliners so that
you could relax while watching the movie giving the movie theater a homelike feel. When the movie
previews started, the lights dimmed to soft yellow lighting. The light came from purple yellow and red
lighting structures. Movie theaters are set up this way because they are trying to soundproof, have
better acoustics, and make clients comfortable so that the patron would want to come back to another
movie. It s all about keeping clientele. If there is none of the listed items, people are less inclined to
come back.
Description of Musical Style
Brian Tyler s musical concept can be described as a straightforward use of simple themes and triadic
harmonies. This score however is somewhat distinctive in that the realization of this musical approach
makes use of traditional music accented by synthetic timbres and sounds for the added intensity effect.
The combination of these electronic

Argumentative Essay On Orphan Children
Today there are around 140 million orphaned children around the globe. Orphaned children are rarely
spoken about nor does society educate itself on the complexity of what being an orphan means. But
speaking from experience, I understand the strain of having to come to terms with the fact that you
were abandoned. Despite one s best efforts to maintain a fully functioning state of being, an emotional
darkness always maintains its presence and can pop out at any moment of low self confidence.
Though many orphaned children live many different types of lives; some are luckier than others and
some are stronger than others; many retain an unbalanced, sometimes, unhealthy perceptions of
themselves. I feel that Zen Buddhism would be the best application for orphan children to think and
practice in the here and now, learn to accept aspects of life as they are, and attain compassion and
detachment.
Buddhism has been touted as the cure all for many conscious, unconscious, and physical illnesses. It
has been especially exploited by the elites of America, customized to fit their personal demands and
desires. Paradoxically, I think the diligent and honest study and practice of Buddhism can help those
orphaned as children, teenagers, or those living adult lives. More specifically, I believe that Zen
Buddhism and the practice of Zazen Meditation can harmonize and establish themselves within the
traditions and practices of Zen. At its core, Zen Buddhism is practiced through meditation of allowing
oneself to be conscious of their thoughts, but at the same time letting them pass without acting upon
them. To briefly introduce, Zen Buddhism is comprised of two unique schools of Buddhism called the
Rinzai and Soto Zen Buddhism. The Rinzai sect in Japan found popularity amongst the feudal lords
and Shoguns. Soto, on the other hand, were penetrated amongst the common people and were
available to all because of its beauty in simplicity. Despite Soto Zen being the most pervasive in
Japanese practice, it was the Rinzai sect that found popularity in the Western world. Regardless of its
popularity within the Western world, Soto Zen is more compatible in understanding and reflecting on
the life of being an orphan. One Japanese

The Persian Wars Were Significant For World History
One of the main components that defined the ancient world is war. During the era of expansion and
conquest, wars were waged across lands near and far. By means of defense, revolts arose at this time
of numerous battles as well as the formation of alliances. As a whole, war is a struggle for power. For
instance, two great ancient civilizations, Greece and Persia, fought in a series of conflicts known as
the Greco Persian Wars. Herodotus, the historian who first wrote about the Persian Wars, once said,
Great things are won by great dangers. All war is dangerous, yet the advancements made afterward
help form civilizations and promote future prosperity. The Greco Persian Wars were significant for
world history because they paved the way for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, in the Battle of Thermopylae, Persian forces led by Xerxes outnumbered the Greeks yet
again. However, the militant Spartans took up arms and were able to defeat the large Persian army.
Thermopylae allowed the Greek forces to come up with various tactics and strategies in order to
defeat Persia. Next, the Battle of Salamis was a naval battle between several Greek city states and
Persia. This battle forms the turning point of the Greco Persian Wars since it ultimately saved Greece
from being absorbed into the Persian Empire and ensured the emergence of Western civilization as a
major force in the world. The ending of the Battle of Salamis left the Persian army trapped in Greece,
which paves the way for the final battle of the war, the Battle of Platea. In the battle, the Greek army
came and defeated the weakened Persians, the Persian Wars were over . The mark of the ending of the
Greco Persian wars gave way to Athens arising from the ashes as the dominant and central city state of
Greece, which then provides political and cultural advancements during its golden age. After the wars,
Athens emerges as the center of all activity amongst each city state in Greece. One of the key features
within the Athenian society was the arrangement of public assembly and the rule of the people,
democracy. In the assemblies, any male citizen could actively vote

Determinism, Hard And Soft
Determinism: According to Sappington (1990) there are two types of determinism, hard and soft. He
states that those who hold hard determinism say that human behavior is completely determined by
outside factors and that ideas such a free will or moral responsibility are meaningless. Many famous
psychologists take this approach such as Freud who believed that people s behavior is controlled by
unconscious factors and any conscious reasons given are simply the brain rationalizing actions to the
superego. Skinner argued against Freud and said that behavior is determined by their reinforcement
histories. Although they argue on the finer points they both believe that conscious choice is irrelevant.
The second kind of determinism that Sappington (1990) speaks of is soft determinism which is the
belief that human behavior is determined, but this does not mean that free will is incompatible with it.
This view is says that people make choices that affect their lives but these choices themselves are
determined by other factors. According to Sappington (1990) Hobbes, Locke Hume, and Mill
represent this position among with many other famous psychologists. The idea of soft determinism is
not controversial in psychology today. (Sappington 1990)
Is belief in free will or determinism mutually exclusive or can one hold both views? Philosophers have
contrasted compatibilist and incompatibilist positions (Sappington 1990). Incompatibilists argue that
people cannot believe both views, while

Classic 2 S. E Analysis
Littmann Classic II S.E. Stethoscope Rodney Lemay
An overview of the Classic II:
It is always good to know everything one can about objects as important to life as a stethoscope is as it
could very well end up helping to save your life at some point.
Often thought of by many to be an industry standard leading stethoscope, the Littmann Classic II S.E
is the go to, clear cut choice for emergency medical responders, nurses and students. Its rugged design
should keep it lasting well past the warranty date as it is made to resist the toughest conditions the
medical field has to throw at it. Additionally, the user can even flex the headset well over one million
times or even ball the stethoscope up to fit in your pocket and not worry about damaging ... Show

needs a solid product that will hold up on the roughest conditions and still maintain integrity.
Appearance is an important factor in the medical and rescue fields as everyone is discipline and in
uniform making them easily recognizable so being able to choose a colour to match may not only be
required for military personnel but also fun for nurses and their students. With soft sealing eartips,
excellent acoustics can be experienced in even the loudest of environments where it is to be expected
in sometimes chaotic places such as the back of an ambulance or the emergency room. Often, heavy
weight is attributed to strength and quality which are two trails the Littmann Classic II excelle at while
still being able to stay lightweight enough to reduce any stress other more cumbersome stethoscopes
may have caused. Price is massive make or break sale for most and to have the best usually comes
with a hefty bill but having a price tag of around $80 for a stethoscope that could very well last the
duration of your career, many agree that it is well worth the price considering the other options that
are out there. FInally, warranty is included and the ability to purchase spare parts should the

Andrei Rublev During The Renaissance
One notable painter during the Renaissance era who did not live in Italy was Russian Orthodox artist
Andrei Rublev, born in the 1370s and died in 1430 (Ross 131). Though he was born in the medieval
era, his work was truly Renaissance era. There is very little known about the life of Andrei Rublev
with his exact birth location and date unknown, it is very likely he lived near Moscow at the Trinity St.
Sergius Lavra which is near Moscow (131). The first mention of Rublev is in 1405 when he created
frescos and icons for the Cathedral of Annunciation (131). His name was on the last of the list of
masters that created these masterpieces. It is believed that he was trained under the famous

Drama Improvisation
Drama Essay
To be good at improvisation, it doesn t really matter how talented you are, but more about giving it
your best shot
Improvisation is the art of being able to create ideas in a split second, with little or no warning as to
what you are making up. In drama the art of improvisation, and being a good improviser, is absolutely
essential. However, there are many different views on what it takes to be good at improvisation. To be
good at improvisation, it relies very little on how talented the actor is, but more importantly, it relies
on them trying they re very hardest to be a good improviser, on them giving it their best shot. This can
be determined by how hard the actor is concentrating, on wether or not they have knowledge ... Show

Above all other factors of improvisation, having knowledge of the basics is absolutely vital. This is
knowing about the concept of make, accept, extend . This is where one person makes the offer, it is
accepted by another, and then is extended by the actors playing out the scene. An excellent example of
this was shown in class today, during an improvisation game. One group set up a scene for another
group to act in (this was where the offer was made), and in this scenario, it was a game show. Straight
away, the group that was acting picked up on what scenario they had been put into (this was where the
offer had been accepted) and continued on with the scene without hesitation (this was where the offer
was extended). Another excellent, and hilarious example of make, accept, extend was when in class,
we acted out the scenario of waiting at a bus stop. Jerrah had acted out that she was pregnant and in
labour. Suddenly, Gabby decided she would be the baby. Jerrah had to quickly accept the offer made
by Gabby, which she did, and they both extended it in an incredibly hilarious fashion.
Another important factor of improvisation is the idea of giving it your best shot to interact with your
fellow actors. Without interacting with one another, there could be no scene, no scenario, nothing at
all. When tyring your very best to interact with your fellow actors, improvisation is definitely at it s
best. This was seen during our

Isadora Duncan And Modern Dance
Isadora Duncan was born on May 26th 1877 in San Francisco, California. She became a known
dancer and instructor, and she influenced dance techniques today. She was one of the people who
came up with dancing in a natural way, unlike modern ballet, allowing the performer to feel right. She
didn t believe that dance should be unnatural to the person s body. She was a great influence to
modern dance.
After her birth in 1877, her father lost his job at a bank in California. Not shortly afterwards, her
parents divorced around 1880. Isadora was raised by her mother Dora who was a piano teacher. This
probably made her feel the music more because she would move her body to the music while they
practiced and didn t have a teacher at that time. Their family not long after moved to Oakland,
California where her mother struggled with making money as a piano instructor. Isadora s dad
returned later and provided a home for his ex wife.
When Isadora was a little girl she studied ballet like Delsarte technique and she studied Burlesque and
automatically fell in love with dance. She didn t like traditional ballet so she made her own style that
was more comfortable. She believed ballet had too many rules. When she was six she began teaching
kids in her neighborhood how to dance. Word was spreading about her class and around age ten her
classes became bigger.
Eventually she dropped out of school at a young age so Duncan and her sister Elizabeth could earn
extra money from teaching a dance

have an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in their homes. This shows that many are strongly attached

Green Design
John A. Walker argues that designers must undertake an ecological role. Arguably, humanity is re
designing the planet Earth every hour of every day, either deliberately by rational planning or
inadvertently with billions of unconsidered actions, and in the main ruining it. We all carry a
responsibility for the destruction and therefore we all need to mend our ways, but of course some
groups within society have more power than others to take remedial action: engineers, architects,
planners and designers for instance. If they became pro active rather than re active, they could play a
crucial role: their skills, imagination and ingenuity could help preserve the planet for future
generations. Green or ecological design is one positive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And on May 12 this year the Design Museum held a well attended conference entitled Green Design
Beyond the Bandwagon? which included speakers from Zanussi, Volvo, New Consumer Magazine,
Design Week and the Labour Party. An Ecological Design Association has been founded in Britain
with the intention of encouraging training, professional standards, product testing and ecodesign in
general. In terms of transportation, green design ranged from changes in the engines of conventional
cars to take unleaded petrol and to reduce fuel consumption, to Anthony Howard s Africar (a cheap,
wooden vehicle designed for Africa). Volvo in Sweden renewed its long term commitment to making
environmentally friendly cars and buses, while Renault in France designed an electric car. Modifying
existing vehicles is a step in the right direction but it does nothing to limit the ever growing number of
cars on the roads. If population growth has to be limited, so does the growth in cars. Many greens
would prefer to walk and cycle or to use public transport. Once the will exists to improve and expand
the latter, many more opportunities for the green transport designer will occur. Fashion also witnessed
changes during the 1980s. Anita Roddick s chain of Bodyshops was highly successful in selling
natural cosmetics with minimum packaging; campaigns against the use of animal furs for clothes cut

  • 2. Queenie in A P Flat characters are minor characters in a work of fiction who do not undergo substantial change or growth in the course of a story. A minor character in a story is not the leader of the story, they are a supporting character to the protagonist and they give a contrast to the protagonist in a story. In the story A P by John Updike, the story begins by illustrating Sammy as a young cashier who is cynical and loathsome of his current situation. He is infatuated by a pretty young girl, the minor character, who is referred to as Queenie. Queenie is very important in this story because of the conflicts she causes. • 3. Contradictions Of Imperialism In George Orwell s Shooting... Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is a narrative essay that tells about a time that he had to kill an elephant, but he had many challenges when deciding to do so. Orwell had situations that he had to go through, and he also had to make very contemplating choices within himself. It s almost as if the elephant s death determined his fate. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell states, I was young and ill educated and I had had to think out my problems in the utter silence that is imposed on every Englishmen in the East. (page 1) This hints that Orwell will obviously come into some predicaments that will determine the state of his manhood. Orwell had several occasions where he contradicted himself and his beliefs. These contradictions involved Imperialism, the Burmese people, and killing the elephant. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell contradicts himself about Imperialism. In the essay Imperialism is well influenced in Burma. Orwell is a British police officer sent to Burma to enforce imperialism among the Burmese people. At the time Orwell is very young and has no experience in his position as a police officer. Soon after he got to Burma he begins to despise his job. Almost everyday he had to witness prisoners in filthy cages and men tortured. He felt that he was doing the dirty work of the government. Orwell emotions went into an uproar and he begins to feel a sense of hatred for Imperialism. Orwell says Imperialism is an evil thing but he still works to enforce its mission. This can be very confusing because he hates the job that he has to do, how he is treated because of his job, and what people think of him because of what he is working for. Orwell futhers to contradict himself and the maturity of his manhood with his relationship with the Burmese people. When he finally arrives he is hated and taunted by the Burmese people. He would be humiliated in front of crowds at football games and young men would sneer at him every chance they would get. Orwell also says he would feel a great joy to drive a bayonet into a Buddhist priest s guts. This statement would make the reader believe he hates the Burmese. At this point in the essay Orwell starts to contradict himself again by secretly expressing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Ab Isotype Switching Case Study Before encountering an antigen, a naïve B cell expresses both IgM and IgD on its surface. A single transcript of VDJ CμCδ is alternatively spliced to yield either the μ or the δ heavy chains. There is no DNA switch region before the Cδ gene. Switch regions are found in DNA upstream of each constant region gene (except in the δ chain). Ab isotype switching occurs by recombination between switch regions (S), with deletion of the intervening DNA, and must occur before functional transcripts of these genes are made. Isotype switching requires the enzyme AID, which is expressed in B lymphocytes in response to signals from T cells These experiments tell us that the CD40L on the surface of activated T cells must bind to the CD40 on the macrophage surface to activate the macrophages against Pneumocystis jirovecii organisms. ... • 7. Foils Of Fortinbras In Hamlet A story would go nowhere without the characters making something happen. Characters are used for everything in a story, they set the scene, make the plot happen, and everything inbetween. Characterization is a major deal for writers because without proper characterization, the plot will not be able to go the way they want it to. This is also a big factor for the play, Hamlet, by William Shakespeare. He uses so many different characters to really push certain things to the audience, and to make the reader understand it so well. The use of the foils, which is the use of two completely opposite characters, in the play really helps get across the point that Shakespeare wants to convey to the reader . • 10. The French Revolution of 1789 Essay There is no doubt that the French Revolution has had a profound effect on the world. The cause or causes of it have been greatly disputed. Clearly the Revolution s primary cause was the presence of a weak monarchy and a lack of a stable system of government. France s absolute monarchy had many changes toward the end of the eighteenth century. King Louis XVI, in his attempts to consolidate his authority and lessen the power of the aristocrats, had planned out an intendant system. The intendants were like governors. They would oversee one constituency of the country. These intendants could not govern the region in which they lived, and were chosen from other than the aristocracy. This insured that their allegiance was pledged to the king and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were three divisions or classes in France called estates. The first estate, which was composed of church officials, had immense authority and obtained enormous salaries. Church officials obtained their salaries via taxes collected from church property. Therefore, since the officials received their salaries from the church property, they did not have to pay taxes. The second estate was composed mainly of nobility. They, too, were exempt from paying taxes. This left the entire tax burden upon the third estate. The third estate consisted of some merchants and entrepreneurs; however, the majorities were peasants. Corruption of the estates was causing much frustration among the common people who composed 70 percent of the population. The monarchy tried to make an attempt to give the third estate power by establishing the Estate s General, but this too was corrupted. Unlike most legislative bodies, the Estate s General did not vote by each person having a single vote. Rather, they let each estate have one vote each. Since the first two estates were always in agreement, the third estate was always out voted. This is a prime example of how the lack of a stable government had an immensely tragic effect on the people of the country. If the monarchy had tried to make some reform or if Louis XVI had more backbone to institute some tax reform to lessen the burden on the third estate, the Revolution may have been avoided. • 11. Critical Analysis Of Requiem For A Dream Requiem for a Dream is a 2000 psychological drama directed by Darren Aronofsky. The story follows four characters as they struggle with, and eventually succumb to their different addictions. This leads to the characters imprisonment in a world of delusions and reckless desperation that is eventually overtaken by reality. The film makes effective use of imagery and sound to create the feeling of the film reeling towards the end at an impossible pace. By the end of the movie, the characters are completely changed: withered, broken, and alone. Requiem for a Dream was screened at the 2000 Cannes film festival, and was met with primarily positive reviews. Darren Aronofsky created the feeling of the film speeding up by shortening the length of the scenes as the film progresses. At the beginning of the movie scenes are 90 seconds to 2 minutes in length, and it s by shortening the length of scenes and frames that he created a sense of unease within the audience. It s also reflective of the emotional states of the characters. At the beginning of the film, the characters aren t necessarily too far gone to be saved. They still have time for each other, for their future, and their plans. But as the scenes shorten their chances of saving themselves become slimmer. They characters find themselves more and more alone as they becomes slaves to their addiction, doing whatever they can to get their next fix. African Americans And Reconstruction Essay Throughout the duration of the Civil War in 1861 to the 1920s, African Americans made significant strides toward their advancement in America and toward equity with whites. After having being subjected to white governance and enslaved for so long, their dependence generated a sense of unfamiliarity with their newly acquired emancipation. This uncertainty sparked many debates regarding the most effectual way to go about receiving their inalienable rights as human beings, not merely substandard Negros as they were perceived to be. Such measures as the Black Codes and the KKK were implemented within the South to regulate the actions of African Americans as though they were in slavery but without the security of safety that comes with being considered property. Though chattel slavery had been abolished, the abruptness of its termination left several pertinent issues unresolved in relation to the status of African Americans. The terms of the war only required the southern states to remove the succession clause from their state constitutions. However, in spite of its connotation of brutality, the period of Reconstruction was also beneficial in some repute as it established public education for both blacks and whites. The second is the overriding concept that Midwestern English is inherently accent less, when compared to other variations of English within the United States. While Midwestern English is distinct enough to be included in many hand drawn dialect maps of the US, the Midwestern accent is often labeled as unknown accent (Hartley 2005) (Preston et al 2002). This is because many people outside of the Midwest believe that the region has no distinguishable accent or linguistic feature to stereotype (Preston et al 2002). As much of the Midwest was (and continues to be) agriculturally based, there are very few distinct working class accents, as are common in New York City (Hartley 2005). • 15. International Financial Accounting Standards Board Introduction With the number of countries that have switched to the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for their financial reporting, as well as the continued efforts made between the IFRS and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), it is evident that international convergence is an overall appealing idea for global reporting. With that said, for decades now US GAAP has worked with IFRS to create a universal standard; and while progress has been made to diminish variances between the standards, there are still large, if not unattainable efforts ahead of us. The hype over a proposed uniform set of global accounting standards appears to be stunted by the lost efforts in the convergence project between the US GAAP and IFRS. As the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) moves forward with its standards setting, there must be a reevaluation of the goal for reporting standards and efforts with the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). Opinions regarding the optimal direction for the standards boards vary amongst regulators, practitioners, and academics. Many will argue in support to continue efforts for a uniform set of global accounting standards and believe this will drive more efficient international business. Those in favor of a global standard consider it to be in global best interest, and that the standard is worth pursuing for the long term benefit considering the increasing prevalence of cross border transactions. In Sarah Barns view, Vegans and vegetarians typically have... a lower risk of death from heart disease, and lower overall cancer rates. Science and research confirms that you don t need meat to be healthy at all, in fact statistics point to quite the opposite ( Live Longer, Boost Immunity, Slim Down: 10 Reasons Why You Should Go Vegan In 2015, Daily Express par. 3). Basically, Sarah Barns is saying that having a vegan or vegetarian diet will decrease the chances of dying from heart disease. This demonstrates that dying from heart disease is prevented by having a lack of unhealthy fat in the body. Unhealthy fat gets trapped in the arteries, which clogs them. When the arteries are clogged, it can lead to a heart attack or a stroke. Clearly, having a vegan diet will contribute to the prevention of heart disease. Scientists have warned the population that the fossil fuels that we current use for our main fuel source may run out in less than 100 years (James Trefil Robert Hazen, 2013). While the fossil fuels are readily available to our current generations, we need to start making great results in switching our main energy source to more renewable energy for our future generations. I have researched a few of the most popular alternative energy sources for the U.S. future. One area of US Energy Future that has been in place for some time now is Solar Energy. Solar energy was first developed in 1954 by Daryle Chapin, Gerald Pearson and Calvin Fuller in the form of silicon photovoltaic cells. In 1958 the solar energy field took off. The Vanguard 1 weather satellite used solar power to power the radios and other equipment on the spacecraft. After the successful 1 year mission using the solar power, the Lunar Lander, Mars Viking Mission, Hubble Telescope and the Space Shuttle all used solar power on their crafts (OSU Test Report, 2015). With QuikTrac MMAS will be able to cut the time it takes to complete its physical inventory process in half and significantly improve inventory accuracy and warehouse efficiency using a wireless data collection solution that communicates in real time with its MAPICS enterprise resource planning system. Using label printers, MMAS has deployed bar coded location labels throughout its warehouse. Workers scan the location labels with the mobile computers, and key enter quantities during inventory moves. Warehouse employees will also use the devices for cycle counting, and annual physical inventories. In order for QuikTrac to be functional several system updates had to occur, software had to be updated and new servers had to be installed in order to hold the abundance of information that would now be input via wireless devices. QuikTrac system requires at least 2.0 GHz with 20 GB HD, 256 MD RAM running Windows XP Pro (Preferred), 2000, or 98 with ODBC ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Intentional Revolutions Is Organizational Change Intentional Revolutions is organizational change that requires people to examine and alter the basic assumptions driving and supporting the present state of their organizational life. It is about change that asks people to do things in dramatically new and different ways, as opposed to making small improvements in current practices. The requirements for remaining competitive often include sharp breaks with past beliefs and practices. There is need for organizations of all kinds to make discontinuous changes in significant aspects of their being. To make revolution is to attack values and practices that are valued or cherished or accepted within the prevailing culture. Slide 1 Transformation creation of a new organizational reality. These organizations are continuously and fundamentally adaptive and self renewing. Slide 2 The challenge of Transformational Change Discontinuous Thinking Building a New Consciousness Practical Dimensions of Transformation The Path of Least Resistance Discontinuous Thinking Rapid and unpredictable changes in an organizational environment lead to understanding that the traditional response modes, such as downsizing and piecemeal structural process rearrangements, no longer provide sufficient competitive edge. Corporations must change in ways that are discontinuous with what has gone before. Introduction Painful procedures are common for premature infants and research has found that non pharmacological methods are effective in reducing pain signs. Pain is subjective and difficult to measure unless vocalized, as infants are unable to verbalize their pain, their management in regards to pain relief is suboptimal (who.int). It has been documented in many studies that premature babies of a gestation of less than 32 weeks are subjected to approximately between 10 and 15 painful procedures in their first few weeks of life and more than 80% of those procedures are performed without pain relief (Stevens et al, 2003). When premature infants are exposed to long term pain they enter into a state of passivity, with decreased movement, no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Early studies of neurological development showed that preterm infant perception of localized pain was non existent. It was also thought that neonates were incapable of remembering painful experiences and therefore, they were not considered of understanding pain in the same way as adults (Urso, 2007). This understanding came from four misconceptions about the neonatal physiology. The first being that the neonatal CNS was immature, the second was that nerve fibers required myelination process in pain perception, the third was that infants did not have pain receptors and the fourth was that premature babies were unable to remember painful experiences (Urso, 2007). It is known that premature infants with immature development experience pain especially those needing surgical treatment or those who spend time in neonatal intensive. Knowing how to manage neonatal care is a challenge for healthcare professionals as it is difficult to measure and due to the fact that neonatal systems are more immature than those of older patients. It is also known that experience of pain in early life can have an effect on pain perception later on in life. Analgesia used can combat pain experienced by neonates. The most commonly pharmacological pain relief used for neonates are paracetamol, opioids, most commonly morphine and fentanyl and local analgesia. It is noted that as well as pharmacological ... • 24. Argumentative Essay On Orphan Children Today there are around 140 million orphaned children around the globe. Orphaned children are rarely spoken about nor does society educate itself on the complexity of what being an orphan means. But speaking from experience, I understand the strain of having to come to terms with the fact that you were abandoned. Despite one s best efforts to maintain a fully functioning state of being, an emotional darkness always maintains its presence and can pop out at any moment of low self confidence. Though many orphaned children live many different types of lives; some are luckier than others and some are stronger than others; many retain an unbalanced, sometimes, unhealthy perceptions of themselves. I feel that Zen Buddhism would be the best application for orphan children to think and practice in the here and now, learn to accept aspects of life as they are, and attain compassion and detachment. Buddhism has been touted as the cure all for many conscious, unconscious, and physical illnesses. It has been especially exploited by the elites of America, customized to fit their personal demands and desires. Paradoxically, I think the diligent and honest study and practice of Buddhism can help those orphaned as children, teenagers, or those living adult lives. More specifically, I believe that Zen Buddhism and the practice of Zazen Meditation can harmonize and establish themselves within the traditions and practices of Zen. At its core, Zen Buddhism is practiced through meditation of allowing oneself to be conscious of their thoughts, but at the same time letting them pass without acting upon them. To briefly introduce, Zen Buddhism is comprised of two unique schools of Buddhism called the Rinzai and Soto Zen Buddhism. The Rinzai sect in Japan found popularity amongst the feudal lords and Shoguns. Soto, on the other hand, were penetrated amongst the common people and were available to all because of its beauty in simplicity. Despite Soto Zen being the most pervasive in Japanese practice, it was the Rinzai sect that found popularity in the Western world. Regardless of its popularity within the Western world, Soto Zen is more compatible in understanding and reflecting on the life of being an orphan. One Japanese ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Next, the Battle of Salamis was a naval battle between several Greek city states and Persia. This battle forms the turning point of the Greco Persian Wars since it ultimately saved Greece from being absorbed into the Persian Empire and ensured the emergence of Western civilization as a major force in the world. • 26. Determinism, Hard And Soft Determinism: According to Sappington (1990) there are two types of determinism, hard and soft. He states that those who hold hard determinism say that human behavior is completely determined by outside factors and that ideas such a free will or moral responsibility are meaningless. Many famous psychologists take this approach such as Freud who believed that people s behavior is controlled by unconscious factors and any conscious reasons given are simply the brain rationalizing actions to the superego. Skinner argued against Freud and said that behavior is determined by their reinforcement histories. Although they argue on the finer points they both believe that conscious choice is irrelevant. The second kind of determinism that Sappington (1990) speaks of is soft determinism which is the belief that human behavior is determined, but this does not mean that free will is incompatible with it. This view is says that people make choices that affect their lives but these choices themselves are determined by other factors. According to Sappington (1990) Hobbes, Locke Hume, and Mill represent this position among with many other famous psychologists. The idea of soft determinism is not controversial in psychology today. Drama Improvisation Drama Essay To be good at improvisation, it doesn t really matter how talented you are, but more about giving it your best shot Improvisation is the art of being able to create ideas in a split second, with little or no warning as to what you are making up. In drama the art of improvisation, and being a good improviser, is absolutely essential. However, there are many different views on what it takes to be good at improvisation. To be good at improvisation, it relies very little on how talented the actor is, but more importantly, it relies on them trying they re very hardest to be a good improviser, on them giving it their best shot. This can be determined by how hard the actor is concentrating, on wether or not they have knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Above all other factors of improvisation, having knowledge of the basics is absolutely vital. This is knowing about the concept of make, accept, extend . This is where one person makes the offer, it is accepted by another, and then is extended by the actors playing out the scene. An excellent example of this was shown in class today, during an improvisation game. One group set up a scene for another group to act in (this was where the offer was made), and in this scenario, it was a game show. Straight away, the group that was acting picked up on what scenario they had been put into (this was where the offer had been accepted) and continued on with the scene without hesitation (this was where the offer was extended). Another excellent, and hilarious example of make, accept, extend was when in class, we acted out the scenario of waiting at a bus stop. Jerrah had acted out that she was pregnant and in labour. Suddenly, Gabby decided she would be the baby. Jerrah had to quickly accept the offer made by Gabby, which she did, and they both extended it in an incredibly hilarious fashion. Another important factor of improvisation is the idea of giving it your best shot to interact with your fellow actors. Without interacting with one another, there could be no scene, no scenario, nothing at all. When tyring your very best to interact with your fellow actors, improvisation is definitely at it s best. • 30. Isadora Duncan And Modern Dance Isadora Duncan was born on May 26th 1877 in San Francisco, California. She became a known dancer and instructor, and she influenced dance techniques today. She was one of the people who came up with dancing in a natural way, unlike modern ballet, allowing the performer to feel right. She didn t believe that dance should be unnatural to the person s body. She was a great influence to modern dance. After her birth in 1877, her father lost his job at a bank in California. Not shortly afterwards, her parents divorced around 1880. Isadora was raised by her mother Dora who was a piano teacher. This probably made her feel the music more because she would move her body to the music while they practiced and didn t have a teacher at that time. Their family not long after moved to Oakland, California where her mother struggled with making money as a piano instructor. Isadora s dad returned later and provided a home for his ex wife. When Isadora was a little girl she studied ballet like Delsarte technique and she studied Burlesque and automatically fell in love with dance. She didn t like traditional ballet so she made her own style that was more comfortable. She believed ballet had too many rules. When she was six she began teaching kids in her neighborhood how to dance. Word was spreading about her class and around age ten her classes became bigger. Eventually she dropped out of school at a young age so Duncan and her sister Elizabeth could earn extra money from teaching a dance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arguably, humanity is re designing the planet Earth every hour of every day, either deliberately by rational planning or inadvertently with billions of unconsidered actions, and in the main ruining it. We all carry a responsibility for the destruction and therefore we all need to mend our ways, but of course some groups within society have more power than others to take remedial action: engineers, architects, planners and designers for instance. If they became pro active rather than re active, they could play a crucial role: their skills, imagination and ingenuity could help preserve the planet for future generations. An Ecological Design Association has been founded in Britain with the intention of encouraging training, professional standards, product testing and ecodesign in general. In terms of transportation, green design ranged from changes in the engines of conventional cars to take unleaded petrol and to reduce fuel consumption, to Anthony Howard s Africar (a cheap, wooden vehicle designed for Africa). Volvo in Sweden renewed its long term commitment to making environmentally friendly cars and buses, while Renault in France designed an electric car. Modifying existing vehicles is a step in the right direction but it does nothing to limit the ever growing number of cars on the roads. If population growth has to be limited, so does the growth in cars. Many greens would prefer to walk and cycle or to use public transport. Once the will exists to improve and expand the latter, many more opportunities for the green transport designer will occur. Fashion also witnessed changes during the 1980s.
