Medimmune Case Study
MedImmune Case Study
Background
MedImmune is dedicated to helping patients live better lives through advances in science and
medicine. Hundreds of thousands of patients have benefited from their products, which are designed
to treat or prevent infectious diseases, cancer and inflammatory diseases (Wikipedia, 2012). Their
extensive research and development efforts are focused on these same areas.
MedImmune acquired FluMist when it purchased Aviron in 2002. FluMist is Aviron s lead product for
development and commercialization, it s a live virus vaccine delivered to the patient as a nasal mist
for the prevention of influenza (Wikipedia, 2012).
Key Issues
The board of MedImmune believed that Aviron was a good strategic fit but didn t ... Show more

The problems can be grouped into two categories: problems with estimating cash flows and problems
with estimating discount rates. How long will it take to get a positive earning? What number should
the discount rate be?
Secondly, although the company took a long time before the introduction of the vaccine FluMist, the
nasal spray flu virus has been unable to obtain FDA approval for the vaccination of young children
and the elderly. FluMist also exists the problem of poor sales and difficult storage. MedImmune paid $
1.5 billion in 2001 after the acquisition of California Aviron in launching of FluMist. At that time,
MedImmune predicted that FluMist would become a blockbuster drugs. But in fact, FluMist is quite
poor performance on the market. Poor estimation on potential customers and market growth should be
the main reasons for the failure.
Recommendation
The MedImmune Company expected that the transaction will be completed in the first quarter of
2002. The transaction will write off the company s 2002 earnings levels and reach breakeven point in
2003; then the level of its cash surplus will significantly grow (MedImmune, 2001). But from both
MedImmune and Avirons statement of operations we can see that huge gap of negative earning will
not be covered in 2003. From the news afterwards we know that according to the agreement reached
by the two companies, MedImmune used 1.075 shares of outstanding stock in exchange of one

Karl Marx Vs Durkheim On Religion
The analysis and comparison of Karl Marx and Emile understanding of religion
Introduction
This essay analyses and compares the views of both Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim on religion. It
encompasses the views of other scholars on the same subject. For instance scholars like Gorsuch
(1988) saw religion as an important variable in people s lives and yet Marx and Durkheim view
religion absolutely in an unexpected way, nevertheless both of them concur that religion is a vital part
of a general public. Amid his profession, Marx talked little on the subject of religion. Notwithstanding,
what is inadequate in volume is compensated for in power and exhaustiveness. As stated by Bell
(2008) some of Marx s best known obitera are about religion. It is the murmur of the persecuted
animal, the fanciful satisfaction of men. It is the reflex of this present reality and best of all it is the
opium of the general population. Marx (1972). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Lord Of The Flies And To Kill A Mockingbird
Lord of the Flies vs To Kill a Mockingbird
In Lord of the Flies, British schoolboys are stranded on a tropical island. In an attempt to recreate the
civilization they left behind, they nominate Ralph as their leader, with the smart and rational Piggy by
his side. But Jack wants to lead, too, and one by one, he lures the boys from reason and humanity to
savagery and a survival and inhuman state; they become the hunters. In Lord of the Flies, William
Golding gives us a glimpse of the savagery that controls even the most civilized human beings. In To
Kill a Mockingbird, author Harper Lee uses interesting characters to explore civil rights and racism in
the segregated Southern United States of the 1930s. Narrated by Scout Finch, you learn about her
father Atticus Finch, an attorney who hopelessly fights to prove the innocence of a black man wrongly
accused of rape; and about Boo Radley, a mysterious neighbour who saves Scout and her brother Jem
from being killed.
Lord of the Flies and To Kill a Mockingbird are still relevant today, the events and themes are still
reflected in today s society such as scapegoating; blaming a person for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or
faults of others, especially for reasons of practicality. Piggy, Simon and the beast are examples of
scapegoats in Lord of the Flies and Tom Robinson and Boo Radley are scapegoats in To Kill a
Mockingbird. In the novel Lord of the Flies the characters such as Piggy, Simon and the beast are
blamed for the

Silver In The 18th Century Dbq
Silver in the 16th century and early 18th century was a product that was widely used and traded across
the world both as a currency and a feature in households and stores. The trade of silver included large
scale social and economic effects that spread around the world, impacting large centralized
governments such as the chinese, to smaller, less organized areas in the americas. Silver allowed the
early modern age to flourish, and grow economically, socially, and in global trade. Silver had a
profound effect on the global economy, for example, silver backed nearly all of China s economy back
in the day and silver quickly became the core of China s economic life. This is shown in documents

For example, silver began to be an important part of everyday dealings. Jobs were focused towards
silver production, foods and goods could be bought with silver coins, etc. This is mainly shown in
documents 1,5, and 7. For example on document 1 it shows the social effects of the usage of silver in
this time period. However I believe that the point of view in this passage is slightly swayed by the fact
that the author is a county official who is most likely wealthy and he may simply be referring to his
own greed. In document 5 it shows how silver was eventually used as a currency and people were no
longer able to keep tabs as they had to pay with silver up front. I believe the purpose of this document
is important due to the growing use of silver and how it was affecting the cities that began to use it. In
document 7 silver can clearly be seen affecting social lives through the increased demand for foreign
products. With a higher demand for these products there is a much higher demand for the silver to
purchase the goods. I believe the purpose of this document is important because it shows the
relationship between the different countries in terms of trade for

Natural History Museum s Eternal Life In Ancient Egypt
Over the weekend, I chose to examine and analyze the Natural History Museum s exhibit Eternal Life
in Ancient Egypt . The exhibit contained many artifacts and visual representations of what and why
Egyptians performed mummification. Whilst visually entertaining and generally informative, there did
not seem to be a discussion of multiple interpretations on the significance for each object. The
speculative nature of these statements coupled with an often lacking of archaeological evidence
backing up these claims created more questions than answers. However, the exhibit did a great job
describing and informing of the science required for the analysis as well as informative background
explanations for these artifacts. With clear and concise details ... Show more content on

With a mummified boy on display, the exhibit explains that the embalmers preserved the body by
shrouding it in a sheet of linen instead of elaborate layers of fabric strips meaning that this is a
commoner s body (Smithsonian). The captions also state that the placement of the arms and chin on
chest reflect mummification practices from about 2,000 years ago (Smithsonian). Accompanied by
images showing the process of unraveling the boy mummy, this section of the exhibit successfully
explains social hierarchy in Egypt and the mummification procedure in an informative manner. The
exhibit also informs how advances in radiographic imaging allow for scientists to analyze mummies
without damaging their fragile remains or wrappings (Smithsonian). Again, images of the radiographs
and processes of attaining them accompany this statement which contains valuable information since
it is always important to know how the museum and scientists preserve the artifacts whilst gaining

Alice Paul s Views On Women s Suffrage
Alice Paul died on July 9, 1977, almost sixty years after the fight for Women s Suffrage ended with
the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment. In her ninety two year life Alice Paul experienced times of
financial well being, accomplishments in schooling, radical activism, and the fulfillment of one of her
political aims Women s Suffrage. Even though she never saw the passage of her ultimate objective of
an Equal Rights Amendment, she could be recognized as a woman who could have independently
terminated the seventy year battle for Women s Suffrage. Alice Paul s extremism played one of the
most vital parts in the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment.
Alice Stokes Paul was born on January 11, 1885 in a New Jersey town called Mount Laurel. She was
the oldest of four kids born to Quaker parents, William and Tacie Paul. William Paul worked as the
president of the Burlington County Trust Company which delivered a nice life for the Paul family.
While Alice experienced a fortunate life on her father s farm she was educated with Quaker customs.
Quaker traditions include working to benefit society, gender fairness, and non materialistic morals
alongside close connections to nature and society, and humility. As Alice grew older she became a
devoted pupil all the way through grade school. After grade school in 1901, Alice Paul attended
Swathmore College. While attending Swathmore, Paul served as a member on the Executive Board of
Student Government which may have ignited her enthusiasm

Epidemics In The Nineteenth Century
Trends come and go, but some can stay buried in history. Especially the ones we have in the list. We
found the worst trends that ever caught on, and compiled them into a fun little adventure for you. Don
t try to start any of the up again, because they are by far the worst trends that were ever started.
Number Ten: Fish Swallowing. If you thought selfies were bad, imagine being coerced into
swallowing a live goldfish. In the 1930 s, the trend of swallowing whole, live fish became such a fad
that it was even addressed by Time Magazine. This weird trend hit media hard, and lasted more than
thirty years. Though no one ever died from the dumb acts, almost all who partook got sick to their
stomach. Those poor fish!
Number Nine: The Polish Plait. In the nineteenth century, the Polish Plait was all the rage in

Although we know it today as devastating illness, the act of dying from tuberculosis was once
romanticized. Due to the illness s star appearance in paintings, written works, and more artistic
depictions, people in the nineteenth century often desired the onset of the deadly disease. It was said to
be a beautiful death , regarding the time that it allowed its victims to come to terms with death and
settle their arrangements. Many young people enticed by this description sought it out, and the number
of fatalities from the disease jumped.Number Six: The Fire Challenge. More of a recent trend, the fire
challenge was onset by the soaring use of social media. Participants in this challenge would attempt to
set themselves on fire, seeking to find out who could withstand it the longest. Catching the event on
their phones, they would share the videos on social media with other participants. Many injuries arose
from the fire challenge, and we hope the fire has finally been put

Nuremberg Laws Research Paper
The Holocaust of 1933 1945, was the systematic killing of millions of European Jews by the National
Socialist German Worker s Party (Nazis) (Webster, 430). This project showed the treacherous
treatment towards all Jews of that era. Though many fought against this horrific genocide, the officials
had already determined in their minds to exterminate the Jews. Thus, the Holocaust was a malicious
movement that broke up many homes, brought immense despair, and congregated great
discrimination. The Holocaust was an act of Hell on earth. Unity, Justice, and Freedom , is what
Germany proclaimed as their motto (World Atlas). As a discriminator, a man by the name of Adolf
Hitler abounded not in this motto. Hitler hated the Jews so, that he ... Show more content on

Being a Jew or a German is a part of the blood (Feldman,), this is a statement from the Nuremberg
Laws, which was consigned to the Jews in September of 1935 ( United States Holocaust Memorial
Museum. ). The Nuremberg Laws consisted of five discriminating guidelines such as: 1. The Reich
Citizenship (it stated that only a person of German or related blood could be a citizen, have political
rights, or could hold office), 2. the Law for the Protection of German Blood and Honor (this made it
illegal for Jews and non Jews to get married or engaged in sexual relations together), 3. Jews were not
allowed to have non Jewish female servants under forty five years old, 4. Jews were forbidden to fly
the German flag, 5. (being a Jew is a part of a person s blood) (Feldman,) . Jews were not able to eat,
shop, or even use the restroom in certain places. Children that went to school were taught anti Semitic
lessons, and the Jewish children were taunted and chaffed, not by peers alone, but teachers as well.
This dreadful method compelled children to refuse attending school ( United States Holocaust
Memorial Museum. ). Moreover, while Jews in Germany were being tormented and war was
approaching, Great Britain did not want to take part. Neville Chamberlain, the Prime Minister of the
British from 1937 1940, decided to sign an appeasement a peace treaty with Hitler stating that the
British only wanted peace (Neufeldt, 109). However, Hitler already had his plans, and the

Theme Of The Hypocrite
The play begins with a household in disarray, and the central themes of morality and religion are
immediately apparent. The play s initial conflict is based around Madame Pernell s insistence that her
son s household is insufficiently pious. It is worth noting that for Moliere s society, religion and
morality were not considered separate virtues, but rather dependent ones.
The initial conflict centers on Tartuffe (Played by Dalton Grafton), who is already established as a
central character even though he does not enter until Act III. It is obviously improper to allow an
elderly family member to leave the home unsatisfied, but everyone is flabbergasted about how to
answer her charges, precisely because they do not understand the obsession with Tartuffe. Part of the
older woman s problem is that she takes Tartuffe at face value because he expresses piety, he is a
model of piety. Because her family does not express such piety, and dares to challenge Tartuffe s
expressions of it, they are impious. The irony for the audience lies in our awareness that she is turning
from her family in the name of religion, while they are desperately trying to placate her. By the time
she exits at the end of Scene I, the import of the play s subtitle The Hypocrite is extremely clear, and
the conflict between appearance and reality is well established.
Dorine (played by the Elise Marshall) is established as the arguably strongest character even in this
first scene. Though she is a servant,

Differences Between Power And Authority
Question 1: Distinguish between power and authority. Do you believe the foundation of criminal
justice organizations is power or authority? Why? Give examples in everyday criminal justice life that
reflect the differences among these concepts.
Answer: According to Stojkovic, Kalinich, and Klofas (2015), power can be defined as A construct
that underscores that importance of how compliance among subordinates is achieved (p. 288). Power
can be at both a person and organizational level and there are five forms, including coercive power,
reward power, legitimate power, referent power, and expert power (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015).
In contrast, authority is demoting the compliance with particular directives essential for achieving a
common or shared goal (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015, p. 290). The three forms of author include,
traditional authority, charismatic authority, and legal authority (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015).
Power can become authority over time and authority is useful for when individuals must be supervised
within an organization (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). I believe the foundation of criminal justice
organizations is authority because everyone is trying to attain the same goal and be successful
(Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). If power is distributed among too many employees, then that
could lead to role conflict (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). It is important to have supervisors with
authority over

Plea Bargaining Undermines Our Criminal Justice System
1. What is plea bargaining in your own words?
a. Plea bargaining is when the defendant and prosecutor negotiate an agreement between each other
where the defendant pleas guilty to reduced charges.
2. Do you think plea bargaining undermines our criminal justice system? How? Explain yourself?
a. In some cases, plea bargaining does not undermine our criminal justice system because the
defendant should be allowed to weigh their options; especially because this plea will affect their lives.
Pleading guilty to a lesser charge can benefit the defendant in multiple ways; such as, it can save them
paying extensive lawyer bills or maybe they don t wish to spend their whole life in jail. However, if
the prosecutor or even the judge bullied and threatens the defendant into accepting the plea bargain;
that action is undermining our criminal justice system. Our criminal justice system states that
everyone is innocent until proven guilty and it is the responsibility of the state to prove one s guilt. Yet
in the case of Charles Gampero, Erma Faye Stewart, or anyone else mentioned in the documentary;
either their lawyers or appointed judge were not even concern with the defendant s innocence or guilt.
Plea bargains should not be forced onto a defendant but given as an option, there is no need for threats
or bullying; that action is what undermines our criminal justice system. This action and also a
statement made during the documentary everyone who shows up in court is considered guilty

Birdies In Mad Men
Birdies
Many people believe in a higher being, whether it be God or a god like figure, that is in charge of
everything. In the show Mad Men, the characters are living in a world where Christianity is prevalent,
and its values are believed to be held by each character. The active search for spiritually is not present
in the show but traces of belief are seen in the way some characters act and what they say. The show
also associates birds with women, specifically with Betty Draper and Joan Holloway.
Episode nine of the first season, titled Shoot, opens with a small flock of pigeons flying around and
Betty looking up at them delicately. Later in the episode, the Draper s dog Polly grabs a pigeon and

Roger s gift. As the episode ends, a version of the song By The Waters of Babylon begins to play. The
song is an allusion to Psalm 137 where the lines by the rivers of Babylon, we sat and wept when we
remembered Zion can be found at the beginning. The Psalm recounts how the Israelites were treated
by the Babylonians when they were exiled from their land. The show makes a connection between

The Ten Commandments For The Hebrew People
The Ten Commandments, a collection of regulations set out for the Hebrew people, were said to have
been delivered to Moses around the thirteenth century BCE, while he was on Mount Sinai, by the
Hebrew God, Yahweh. The foundation of Hebrew morals and laws were constructed solely on the Ten
Commandments, from which they then formed additional specific laws under each category of the Ten
Commandments. The Hebrew people undertook these commandments with the utmost seriousness.
The Hebrews firmly believed that if they were to follow this collection of regulations laid out for
them, the Lord would free them from slavery in Egypt. As a result of the Hebrew people following the
laws in which their God had laid out for them, they did indeed become free ... Show more content on

The man must then remain married to the woman, of which he slandered, for the rest of his life.
During the biblical era, it was quite common for a man to be engaged to a much younger, virgin
woman. If a man is pledged to be married to a woman and rapes her, then only he will die for she
committed no sin and was not at fault. The eighth commandment given by the Lord was You shall not

explains that anyone who steals must certainly make restitution. This commandment focuses on
paying back the wrongful act in which they committed. The ninth commandment given by the Lord
was You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. This commandments main purpose was
to ensure that civilians did not go around accusing people of senseless crimes of which they had no

Should The United States Have English As The National...
Although the founding fathers decided to leave the idea of establishing a national language out of the
Constitution, there have been several movements to establish English as the national language since
then. Even though none of these movements could garnish enough support to make this into a reality,
they have been influential in that English is the official language in 31 states. In recent years, five
additional states have considered legislation that would mandate English as well (Schwarz 2014).
Since many individual states have sided on the issue, it poses the question of if the national
government should follow the trend as well. A strong argument can be made that the United States
should make English as the official language because it would promote unity and patriotism among
Americans, be economically beneficial for the nation while rightfully placing the responsibility to
learn English on the non English speaking immigrants. English should be enforced as the national
language of America as it would promote unity among all citizens. Language can act as a form of
disunity because many non English speaking immigrants feel isolated in the United States as it is
challenging for them to effectively communicate with others. These citizens struggle to complete even
the simplest task that requires some form of communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although the Constitution does not legislate that English is the national language of the United States,
it has always been taken for granted that English is the national language (King 317). After all, the

and many other historically significant American documents all were written in English. In order for

Occupiers Liability from the Common Law
The first point to note when analysing occupiers liability is that originally it was separate to the
general principles of negligence which were outlined in Donoghue v Stevenson .The reason for this
pigeon hole approach was that the key decision of occupiers liability, Indermaur v Dames was decided
sixty six years prior to the landmark decision of Donoghue v Stevenson . McMahon and Binchy state
the reason why it was not engulfed into general negligence, was because it ... had become too firmly

v Dames the courts developed four distinct categories of entrant which I will now examine in turn.

This was evident in the case of Rooney v Connolly where liability was imposed on a priest when a girl
that he had encouraged to visit the local church injured herself stretching over lighted candles. The
permission to enter the land as a licensee may be expressed or implied. An issue arises when the
permission is implied. Often children entered premises without the permission of the landowner
without the objection of the landlord. But did this make them a licensee or a trespasser? Fitzgibbon J
put it eloquently in Kenny v ESB An open gate or an unfenced field does not amount to an invitation
or licence urbi et orbi to enter upon private property Often the courts would have to interpret
particularly in cases involving minors whether tolerance could be implied as amounting to permission
to enter the land. The courts would often analyse the tolerance issue in deciding cases as best to
deliver justice in cases where there was no clear outcome.
The fourth category is that of a trespasser. This category has radically developed in the last thirty
years. Originally a trespasser was owed a very limited duty of care. The duty owed to a trespasser was
that they could not be injured intentionally and not to act with reckless disregard to their person or
property . The idea behind such a narrow duty was that a trespasser was illegal on the property and
that the occupier should owe little

Executive Summary
This report provides analysis and evaluation of a newly designed wastewater treatment facility for
Sand Valley, Nevada. Analysis will include Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) along with total,
volatile, and fixed suspended solids. Methods for analysis will include the Winkler Test for BOD and a
Hatch test for the suspend solids.
The report finds BOD levels meet the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
permit renewal standards. Results for suspended solids shows an opposite trend. Suspended solids
increase throughout the course of the water treatment. This does not meet NPDES standards. Further
suspended solids test will be needed to insure a minimal amount of error. If the same trend continues,
the facility may need to be redesigned to meet NPDES standards.

Ethos In Advertising Campaigns
Rationale
The use of ethos, pathos, and logos is evident throughout our advertising campaign for Savidge Tea
Kettles. We used these strategies to appeal to our target market young, middle class couples with
families. The commercial follows a young couple as they use the kettle in many different ways as their
daughter grows up, which our target market will identify with. In the commercial, we made an appeal
to ethos by showing a note that says, From Grandma, when the tea kettle is left on the doorstep. Based
on what we perceived as a common view of elderly people being knowledgeable, especially in the
eyes of their grandchildren, we implied that the kettle must be of high quality in order for a
grandmother to feel that it is a good gift for her newlywed grandchild. Ethos is located on the poster
through the phrase, #1 brand of tea kettles , showing the buyer that other consumers highly
recommend this brand, solidifying the credibility of the kettle, and causing the buyer to follow their
peers and purchase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It begins with the newly weds being brought a tea kettle as a gift. The video proceeds to display short
clips of moments throughout the family s life as their daughter grows up: the daughter s sickness,
heartbreak, acceptance to college, marriage, and then buying a house. Throughout these emotional
scenes, the tea kettle is strategically placed or used in the shot. One of the last scenes is the mother
handing the tea kettle over to the daughter, signifying that life has come full circle. This sequence of
events would hopefully cause an audience to become emotionally attached to the family. Pathos is also
shown in the poster. The poster displays a family around a tea kettle, creating memories. The viewer
will then associate the tea kettle with making memories with their family. This appeal to pathos
persuades potential buyers by creating an emotional response, which would prompt them to purchase a

The Benefits Of A College Education
In the past, the majority of people never thought that they had to obtain a college degree to become
successful. Nowadays, a college degree is the most crucial item sought after by employers and is
necessary to become successful. It is easy to think that it is a piece of cake to be successful without a
college education. I mean Bill Gates, Will Smith, Abraham Lincoln, and Henry Ford were all very
successful. However, that was years ago and the age of college dropouts are over. There is no denying
that earning a degree will increase your chances at a better life. Don t get me wrong, there are many
hardships that you will experience through your college journey. Many students are not prepared for
college life. The emotional toll that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The financial hardships will push you to the edge. Everyone told me in high school that you will
receive so many scholarships and so I never would have thought that in my first year of college that I
would already be $5,500 in debt. The bad thing about FASFA too, is that they depend solely on how
much your parents make. Most of the time money that the parent makes doesn t not end up in their
child s college fund. The cost of college compared to how much young adults can make is mind
boggling. Students have to make the decision whether or not they want to spend the majority of time
working or going to school. A full time student earns about 15 credit hours a semester and every
teacher says that you have to spend 3 hours outside of class studying and doing assignments. For the
average full time student this means that 45 hours our spent on school work. A typical full time
employee works 40 hours. Together this is 84 hours and there are only 168 hours in the week. Even
part time employees struggle with balancing the two. 4 out of 5 students work part time to try and
keep their head above the water that is their growing debt. However, a college degree is necessary if
you want to be successful. The other option is to work years and years in the same company trying to
move up the ladder, but really there is no promise of success. My dad has worked at GE for 35 years
and this year they were bought out by Haer. Haer has since

Women in Baseball
Baseball, some would argue, is America s favorite past time. Many can recall their experiences as they
enjoyed the game as a child and then continue to share it with their children. The sport has brought us
many great moments such as when Jackie Robinson broke racial barriers as the first African American
to play in the major leagues. When one thinks of professional baseball, many times, names of greats
such as Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, and Willie Mays come to mind. What many fans over look about
America s favorite past time is the period when fewer men were available to continue their
participation in the sport, as many were drafted to serve in World War II. Not wanting the game to
come to an end, the league brought in women hoping the spirit of the game would continue to thrive.
Even though these female leagues were formed, the sport was not truly the same as the women
athletes were held to different standards and not given the same opportunity as the men who had
played the game.
In today s society most people view softball as the female equivalent to baseball but is it really? Due
to social norms it is widely accepted as true. Girls who may have started off by playing baseball with
their local neighborhood friends usually have become fully adapted and successful in a softball career
by high school. Because of social conditioning most parents and children do not realize that it is
acceptable for girls to play on boys baseball teams if there is not an all girls baseball team

Promoting Gender Equality and Empowering Women
Introduction
As a child, I had always believed that there was only one difference between girls or boys, one of
them has cooties, besides that I had always thought of them as equals. As I grew out of that young and
venerable age, I slowly started to realize that even in first world countries, women were being
oppressed. They weren t seen as equals, simply because of their gender, not because of experience or
knowledge, just because they are women. If it took me that long to find out how sexist, a developed
country is how long will it take everyone. It is common knowledge, that life is better, but it is not
common knowledge that the discrimination is the same. That was when I had my doubts, will there be
any foundations that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human Trafficking Human trafficking is the illegal practice of procuring or trading in human beings
for the purpose of prostitution, forced labor, or other forms of exploitation, basically it means
exploiting human beings for one s gain. This is a human rights violation and an extreme form of
abuse, some scary but true facts about Human Trafficking are 78% of Canadians agree that girls under
the age of 16 are not in prostitution by choice, 67% of Canadians agree that Canadian girls under the
age of 16 are being recruited/trafficked to work in prostitution against their will and
70% of Canadians agree that women are brought into Canada from other countries and forced to work
in prostitution against their will.
So if this is such a big problem, what is The Canadian Women s Foundation doing about this. Well
firstly they are investing nearly $1 million to fund organizations across Canada that prevent trafficking
and help girls and women escape sex trafficking and rebuild their lives from that. The Canadian
Women s Foundation, however is mostly focused on addressing the needs of vulnerable young girls
who have been forced into prostitution.
Empowering Girls The Canadian Women s Foundation wants every girl to believe in themselves and
know that they matter; they empower girls by investing millions in programs across Canada, which
encourage, physical activity, learning and leadership. This has proven to increase the girls self
confidence and overall

Ezra-Nehemiah
The inspiration for Bede s reform program comes from a pattern that can be found in the book of Ezra
Nehemiah which can be conveniently divided into three sections. Each of these sections deals with a
similar situation and issues: a return from exile which includes projects of restoration and reform.
Today modern English translations of the Bible print the text of Ezra Nehemiah as two distinct books.
By having Ezra and Nehemiah as separate books was not always the way in which these texts were
written; they were traditionally combined into one book in the Hebrew and Greek Bibles. However, by
considering them as one document, it will help to make it much easier to understand the book in its
three parts. The first portion of Ezra Nehemiah ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bede begins by levelling a list of grievances that he has regarding the state of the episcopate in
Northumbria. According to him, the bishops were neglecting their duties such as preaching, teaching,
visitations, and confirmation. There was also a general decline in the moral behaviour of bishops.
Bede mentions this in his letter when he writes that they are given to laughter, jokes, idle tales,
feasting and drunkenness and other attractions of a loose way of life. Bishops would typically only
preach if they received money for it, which led to a spiritual impoverishment for the laity. The
laypeople lacked adequate instruction in the faith not only because of the waywardness of bishops but
also because there were not enough priests to give a good example to the laity to imitate. Another
abuse that Bede objects to is the unjust taxation of the lay faithful and any other forms of clerical
avarice. Many remote farms, hamlets, and small villages were neglected by their bishop; they were
still, however, expected to pay their ecclesial taxes. Bede also mentions that there simply are not
enough dioceses in Northumbria, which would help to resolve the laity s lack of spiritual education.
The reason why bishops were opposed to the creation of new sees is that larger dioceses...

prevalence of female genital mutilation. This leads to what female circumcision actually is. Female
circumcision or genital mutilation, is an aggregate removing of the outside female genitalia for
nonmedical reasons. It has been practiced for a considerable length of time in parts of Africa

This solution is suggested by a United Nations public health arm called World Health Organisation
also most commonly referred to as WHO . Building evidence does in fact help people to examine their
own beliefs and values related to the practice in a way which does not seem threatening or harsh.
Educational sessions will empower women to exchange the traumatic experiences they have been
through and help them reveal and share their feeling and examine the different attitudes reflected
towards female genital mutilation in the community. Increasing access to education is another key
strategy because educated women are less likely to allow their daughters to be cut. This is certainly a
wonderful idea as women can relate to other women about their experiences however, i don t think
this is the best conceivable thought out there because teaching the girls out there in Somalia would not
help as much because they do not have a word to say when it comes to these matters. This is because
it is the girls parents who initiate the entire procedure and ensure that females experience genital
mutilation to keep up their family notoriety and to set her up for

The Picture of Dorian Gray If it were I who was to be young, and the picture that was to grow old! For

replicating the handsome man on the pedestal with delicate brushstrokes, Basil Hallward completes

fact that he is unable to have it frustrates him to the extent that he is willing to give everything he has,
including his soul. This wish combined with the lengths he is willing to go to make it come true
foreshadow the deadly consequences that may result because of it. This quote speaks to me because it

character with the desire for eternal youth who will take drastic measures to attain

Psalm 127 Essay
Psalm 127 Psalm 127 is a very interesting Psalm with a message that is extremely apt considering the
events of our current day. There is a general consensus that the overall purpose of Psalm 127 is to
illustrate the complete futility of relying solely on our human efforts to accomplish anything
meaningful and enduring. Whether we are building a skyscraper or a building a family, if God is not
the foundation of those efforts, we will fail. Anyone who watched the World Trade Center crumble

the interpretation of the Psalm is not without controversy. One ... Show more content on

For instance, Gaebelein and Polcyn argue that while the psalm is separated into two distinct themes,
these themes are inter related through contrast. Â The first strophe teaches the lesson of divine
sovereignty over human enterprise by way of warning against self sufficiency. It pursues a negative
course until it reaches a rhetorical climax of direct address in v 2a. It ends on a positive note, which is
developed in the second strophe in terms of praise of God and commendation. Verses 1 and 2 teach
the wisdom of a Christ centered life by showing the futility and anxiety of life without God s
blessing. By contrast, verses 3 to 5 show the blessings of a God centered life and encourage the godly
to trust in the Lord in all matters of life. A. A. Anderson would agree in seeing the Psalm as a unified
piece. Anderson, noting the tendency to impose arbitrary divisions, quotes G.W. Anderson, saying, Â
the desire to separate the two parts is simply a manifestation of the occupational disease of
commentators. Rather than forcing a dissection of the two parts, it seems the better view to read the
psalm as a unified whole. As Estes observes, both thematic logic and literary structure

s Fundamental Attribution Theory And Cognitive Dissonance
Suddenly, an insect is caught in a spider s web, unaware of the spider the insect has a special defiance
weapon. The spider making a fatal mistake, miss judged the insect s character, and in return had
nothing to show for its hard work. This is similar to what one does when they miss interoperating
another s feelings and personality causing pain and no gain for the observer. New stereotypes, boxes ,
assumptions, etc. all have encroached on a person s worldview. One comes to see others in a whole
new way by theories like the Attribution theory and its Fundamental Attribution error, along with
Cognitive Dissonance theory all of which involve one s actions and attitudes.
One of the theories is the Attribution theory. Attribution theory is when individuals discover the causes
of behavior as part of the one in observation. This theory suggests that people are motivated to
discover the deep meaning of their behavior as that person makes sense of other s behavior. The
Attribution theory has three dimensions that help describe what a person discovering the meaning of
those behaviors and attributing them to different causes. Those three causes are internal or external,
stable or unstable, and or controllable or uncontrollable causes. Consequently, these causes have many
situations that go along with them. Briefly, internal and external causes ask whether or not that
behavior was specific to a character trait or was that action outside of his or her character and just a

My Favorite Stories From The Hat, Sam I Am Who Does Not...
My favorite stories from when I was young consisted of iconic characters such as The Cat in the Hat,
Sam I Am who does not like green eggs and ham, the Grinch and his dog and many more. These
characters are the basis of what shaped my childhood and my now love of reading. The man behind
these fictional characters is Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. He had such a way with
words that reached not only his target audience of children, but became a phenomenon across the
country with adults as well. Quickly, these tales of characters have captured the hearts of many people
and will be passed along for many generations to come. Dr. Seuss keeps children entertained while
also educating them through the messages he uses and the creativity he inspires. Theodor Seuss
Geisel, the author some of the most entertaining and creative children s stories ever written, went by a
different name: Dr. Seuss. He, jokingly, wanted to save his given name for the Great American Novel
he had planned on writing, but never got around to it (Morgan). However, the real story on how he got
his iconic name was much different. While he was studying at Dartmouth, he and some friends were
caught throwing a party that broke the current prohibition laws. Instead of being suspended, he was no
longer able to write for the school s humor magazine, Jack O Lantern. Not wanting to give this up, he
decided to write under a pseudonym. He tried many other names such as L. Pasteur, D. G. Rossetti 25,

Socrates Views On Socrates
To question what no man has questioned before, that is what we praise Socrates for. Socrates
Philosophies grew out of his questioning of the social norm. Using this technique, he seems to always
focus on three main aspects: justice, virtue, and morality. Socrates claims that he has no wisdom. He
states, I know I have no wisdom, great or small. The world has an infinite number of possibilities and
anything he declares understanding, is extremely minimal compared to the possibilities that exist in
the world, there is so much out there that hasn t been exposed yet. Socrates had many thoughts and
ideas over things people never even took time to think about. He thought differently and always more
intensely than others. Socrates says that knowledge is essential to a person. He concluded that a
person s evil and wrong actions come from their ignorance and their failure to investigate. He was also
convinced that no one knowingly does wrong, if a person does not know what is right, then that
person will do wrong, but in the other hand, if the person knows what is right, they will most
definitely do right. He once mentioned that the unexamined life is not worth living introducing the
idea of Universal Definitions, meaning although individual things may vary and be constructed
differently the definitions of how they are similar, are permanent. The most important thing about
Socrates was the fact that he was a teacher. He taught anywhere and everywhere, he even went up to
people,

What number should the discount rate be? Secondly, although the company took a long time before the introduction of the vaccine FluMist, the nasal spray flu virus has been unable to obtain FDA approval for the vaccination of young children and the elderly. FluMist also exists the problem of poor sales and difficult storage. MedImmune paid $ 1.5 billion in 2001 after the acquisition of California Aviron in launching of FluMist. At that time, MedImmune predicted that FluMist would become a blockbuster drugs. But in fact, FluMist is quite poor performance on the market. Poor estimation on potential customers and market growth should be the main reasons for the failure. Recommendation The MedImmune Company expected that the transaction will be completed in the first quarter of 2002. The transaction will write off the company s 2002 earnings levels and reach breakeven point in 2003; then the level of its cash surplus will significantly grow (MedImmune, 2001). But from both MedImmune and Avirons statement of operations we can see that huge gap of negative earning will not be covered in 2003. From the news afterwards we know that according to the agreement reached by the two companies, MedImmune used 1.075 shares of outstanding stock in exchange of one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In To Kill a Mockingbird, author Harper Lee uses interesting characters to explore civil rights and racism in the segregated Southern United States of the 1930s. Narrated by Scout Finch, you learn about her father Atticus Finch, an attorney who hopelessly fights to prove the innocence of a black man wrongly accused of rape; and about Boo Radley, a mysterious neighbour who saves Scout and her brother Jem from being killed. However I believe that the point of view in this passage is slightly swayed by the fact that the author is a county official who is most likely wealthy and he may simply be referring to his own greed. In document 5 it shows how silver was eventually used as a currency and people were no longer able to keep tabs as they had to pay with silver up front. I believe the purpose of this document is important due to the growing use of silver and how it was affecting the cities that began to use it. In document 7 silver can clearly be seen affecting social lives through the increased demand for foreign products. With a higher demand for these products there is a much higher demand for the silver to purchase the goods. The exhibit contained many artifacts and visual representations of what and why Egyptians performed mummification. Whilst visually entertaining and generally informative, there did not seem to be a discussion of multiple interpretations on the significance for each object. The speculative nature of these statements coupled with an often lacking of archaeological evidence backing up these claims created more questions than answers. However, the exhibit did a great job describing and informing of the science required for the analysis as well as informative background explanations for these artifacts. Accompanied by images showing the process of unraveling the boy mummy, this section of the exhibit successfully explains social hierarchy in Egypt and the mummification procedure in an informative manner. The exhibit also informs how advances in radiographic imaging allow for scientists to analyze mummies without damaging their fragile remains or wrappings (Smithsonian). In her ninety two year life Alice Paul experienced times of financial well being, accomplishments in schooling, radical activism, and the fulfillment of one of her political aims Women s Suffrage. Even though she never saw the passage of her ultimate objective of an Equal Rights Amendment, she could be recognized as a woman who could have independently terminated the seventy year battle for Women s Suffrage. Alice Paul s extremism played one of the most vital parts in the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment. Alice Stokes Paul was born on January 11, 1885 in a New Jersey town called Mount Laurel. William Paul worked as the president of the Burlington County Trust Company which delivered a nice life for the Paul family. While Alice experienced a fortunate life on her father s farm she was educated with Quaker customs. Quaker traditions include working to benefit society, gender fairness, and non materialistic morals alongside close connections to nature and society, and humility. Being a Jew or a German is a part of the blood (Feldman,), this is a statement from the Nuremberg Laws, which was consigned to the Jews in September of 1935 ( United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. ). The Nuremberg Laws consisted of five discriminating guidelines such as: 1. The Reich Citizenship (it stated that only a person of German or related blood could be a citizen, have political rights, or could hold office), 2. the Law for the Protection of German Blood and Honor (this made it illegal for Jews and non Jews to get married or engaged in sexual relations together), 3. • 13. Theme Of The Hypocrite The play begins with a household in disarray, and the central themes of morality and religion are immediately apparent. The play s initial conflict is based around Madame Pernell s insistence that her son s household is insufficiently pious. It is worth noting that for Moliere s society, religion and morality were not considered separate virtues, but rather dependent ones. The initial conflict centers on Tartuffe (Played by Dalton Grafton), who is already established as a central character even though he does not enter until Act III. It is obviously improper to allow an elderly family member to leave the home unsatisfied, but everyone is flabbergasted about how to answer her charges, precisely because they do not understand the obsession with Tartuffe. Part of the older woman s problem is that she takes Tartuffe at face value because he expresses piety, he is a model of piety. Because her family does not express such piety, and dares to challenge Tartuffe s expressions of it, they are impious. The irony for the audience lies in our awareness that she is turning from her family in the name of religion, while they are desperately trying to placate her. By the time she exits at the end of Scene I, the import of the play s subtitle The Hypocrite is extremely clear, and the conflict between appearance and reality is well established. Dorine (played by the Elise Marshall) is established as the arguably strongest character even in this first scene. Though she is a servant, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Differences Between Power And Authority Question 1: Distinguish between power and authority. Do you believe the foundation of criminal justice organizations is power or authority? Why? Give examples in everyday criminal justice life that reflect the differences among these concepts. Answer: According to Stojkovic, Kalinich, and Klofas (2015), power can be defined as A construct that underscores that importance of how compliance among subordinates is achieved (p. 288). Power can be at both a person and organizational level and there are five forms, including coercive power, reward power, legitimate power, referent power, and expert power (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). In contrast, authority is demoting the compliance with particular directives essential for achieving a common or shared goal (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015, p. 290). The three forms of author include, traditional authority, charismatic authority, and legal authority (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). Power can become authority over time and authority is useful for when individuals must be supervised within an organization (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). I believe the foundation of criminal justice organizations is authority because everyone is trying to attain the same goal and be successful (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). If power is distributed among too many employees, then that could lead to role conflict (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). It is important to have supervisors with authority over ... Plea bargaining is when the defendant and prosecutor negotiate an agreement between each other where the defendant pleas guilty to reduced charges. 2. Do you think plea bargaining undermines our criminal justice system? How? Explain yourself? a. In some cases, plea bargaining does not undermine our criminal justice system because the defendant should be allowed to weigh their options; especially because this plea will affect their lives. Pleading guilty to a lesser charge can benefit the defendant in multiple ways; such as, it can save them paying extensive lawyer bills or maybe they don t wish to spend their whole life in jail. However, if the prosecutor or even the judge bullied and threatens the defendant into accepting the plea bargain; that action is undermining our criminal justice system. Our criminal justice system states that everyone is innocent until proven guilty and it is the responsibility of the state to prove one s guilt. Yet in the case of Charles Gampero, Erma Faye Stewart, or anyone else mentioned in the documentary; either their lawyers or appointed judge were not even concern with the defendant s innocence or guilt. Although the founding fathers decided to leave the idea of establishing a national language out of the Constitution, there have been several movements to establish English as the national language since then. Even though none of these movements could garnish enough support to make this into a reality, they have been influential in that English is the official language in 31 states. In recent years, five additional states have considered legislation that would mandate English as well (Schwarz 2014). Since many individual states have sided on the issue, it poses the question of if the national government should follow the trend as well. A strong argument can be made that the United States should make English as the official language because it would promote unity and patriotism among Americans, be economically beneficial for the nation while rightfully placing the responsibility to learn English on the non English speaking immigrants. English should be enforced as the national language of America as it would promote unity among all citizens. Many can recall their experiences as they enjoyed the game as a child and then continue to share it with their children. When one thinks of professional baseball, many times, names of greats such as Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, and Willie Mays come to mind. What many fans over look about America s favorite past time is the period when fewer men were available to continue their participation in the sport, as many were drafted to serve in World War II. Not wanting the game to come to an end, the league brought in women hoping the spirit of the game would continue to thrive. Even though these female leagues were formed, the sport was not truly the same as the women athletes were held to different standards and not given the same opportunity as the men who had played the game. It is common knowledge, that life is better, but it is not common knowledge that the discrimination is the same. That was when I had my doubts, will there be any foundations that ... So if this is such a big problem, what is The Canadian Women s Foundation doing about this. Well firstly they are investing nearly $1 million to fund organizations across Canada that prevent trafficking and help girls and women escape sex trafficking and rebuild their lives from that. The Canadian Women s Foundation, however is mostly focused on addressing the needs of vulnerable young girls who have been forced into prostitution. Empowering Girls The Canadian Women s Foundation wants every girl to believe in themselves and know that they matter; they empower girls by investing millions in programs across Canada, which encourage, physical activity, learning and leadership. • 29. Ezra-Nehemiah The inspiration for Bede s reform program comes from a pattern that can be found in the book of Ezra Nehemiah which can be conveniently divided into three sections. Each of these sections deals with a similar situation and issues: a return from exile which includes projects of restoration and reform. Today modern English translations of the Bible print the text of Ezra Nehemiah as two distinct books. By having Ezra and Nehemiah as separate books was not always the way in which these texts were written; they were traditionally combined into one book in the Hebrew and Greek Bibles. However, by considering them as one document, it will help to make it much easier to understand the book in its three parts. The first portion of Ezra Nehemiah ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bede begins by levelling a list of grievances that he has regarding the state of the episcopate in Northumbria. According to him, the bishops were neglecting their duties such as preaching, teaching, visitations, and confirmation. There was also a general decline in the moral behaviour of bishops. Bede mentions this in his letter when he writes that they are given to laughter, jokes, idle tales, feasting and drunkenness and other attractions of a loose way of life. Bishops would typically only preach if they received money for it, which led to a spiritual impoverishment for the laity. The laypeople lacked adequate instruction in the faith not only because of the waywardness of bishops but also because there were not enough priests to give a good example to the laity to imitate. Another abuse that Bede objects to is the unjust taxation of the lay faithful and any other forms of clerical avarice. Many remote farms, hamlets, and small villages were neglected by their bishop; they were still, however, expected to pay their ecclesial taxes. Bede also mentions that there simply are not enough dioceses in Northumbria, which would help to resolve the laity s lack of spiritual education. The reason why bishops were opposed to the creation of new sees is that larger dioceses... maximize[d] the dues [or taxes that could be] exacted from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Firstly, demonstrated is a map of where female genital mutilation is happening in the parts of Africa. The map introduces that Somalia is the most well known spot there is 98% of prevalence of female genital mutilation. This leads to what female circumcision actually is. Female circumcision or genital mutilation, is an aggregate removing of the outside female genitalia for nonmedical reasons. It has been practiced for a considerable length of time in parts of Africa particularly in Somalia, as an element of a rite of passage preparing young girls for womanhood and marriage. This solution is suggested by a United Nations public health arm called World Health Organisation also most commonly referred to as WHO . Building evidence does in fact help people to examine their own beliefs and values related to the practice in a way which does not seem threatening or harsh. Educational sessions will empower women to exchange the traumatic experiences they have been through and help them reveal and share their feeling and examine the different attitudes reflected towards female genital mutilation in the community. Increasing access to education is another key strategy because educated women are less likely to allow their daughters to be cut. This is certainly a wonderful idea as women can relate to other women about their experiences however, i don t think this is the best conceivable thought out there because teaching the girls out there in Somalia would not help as much because they do not have a word to say when it comes to these matters. This is because it is the girls parents who initiate the entire procedure and ensure that females experience genital mutilation to keep up their family notoriety and to set her up for ... • 31. Dorian Gray The Picture of Dorian Gray If it were I who was to be young, and the picture that was to grow old! For that for that I would give everything! Yes, there is nothing in the whole world I would not give! I would give my soul for that! (p. 32, The Picture of Dorian Gray) After countless hours of meticulously replicating the handsome man on the pedestal with delicate brushstrokes, Basil Hallward completes yet another exceptional portrait. Dorian Gray s first glance at the masterpiece leaves him vacant and speechless. The disheartened painter interprets this silence to be disappointment, but in actuality, Dorian s mind is flourishing with sinister thoughts of envy and detestation toward the everlasting youth the painting possesses. His premature realization that his beauty and youth will vanish is the flashpoint that sparks his worry about what he should do in order to preserve it. The impending doom of his mortality alters his character and his desperation is accompanied with anxiety. Dorian s impulsive nature causes him to make a wish that is lacking in thought and realization of the consequences that may result from it. The thought of eternal youth drives the young man mad and the fact that he is unable to have it frustrates him to the extent that he is willing to give everything he has, including his soul. This wish combined with the lengths he is willing to go to make it come true foreshadow the deadly consequences that may result because of it. This quote speaks to me because it gives insight into the heart of Dorian Gray and it reveals his true intentions. It unearths the fact that Dorian Gray is more than an intelligent man with exceptional looks, but a narcissistic and egoistic character with the desire for eternal youth who will take drastic measures to attain ... There is a general consensus that the overall purpose of Psalm 127 is to illustrate the complete futility of relying solely on our human efforts to accomplish anything meaningful and enduring. Whether we are building a skyscraper or a building a family, if God is not the foundation of those efforts, we will fail. Anyone who watched the World Trade Center crumble into an ashen heap within mere hours can surely appreciate the wisdom of this Wisdom Psalm. Still, the interpretation of the Psalm is not without controversy. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Gaebelein and Polcyn argue that while the psalm is separated into two distinct themes, these themes are inter related through contrast.  The first strophe teaches the lesson of divine sovereignty over human enterprise by way of warning against self sufficiency. It pursues a negative course until it reaches a rhetorical climax of direct address in v 2a. It ends on a positive note, which is developed in the second strophe in terms of praise of God and commendation. Verses 1 and 2 teach the wisdom of a Christ centered life by showing the futility and anxiety of life without God s blessing. By contrast, verses 3 to 5 show the blessings of a God centered life and encourage the godly to trust in the Lord in all matters of life. A. A. Anderson would agree in seeing the Psalm as a unified piece. Anderson, noting the tendency to impose arbitrary divisions, quotes G.W. Anderson, saying,  the desire to separate the two parts is simply a manifestation of the occupational disease of commentators. Rather than forcing a dissection of the two parts, it seems the better view to read the psalm as a unified whole. As Estes observes, both thematic logic and literary structure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. s Fundamental Attribution Theory And Cognitive Dissonance Suddenly, an insect is caught in a spider s web, unaware of the spider the insect has a special defiance weapon. The spider making a fatal mistake, miss judged the insect s character, and in return had nothing to show for its hard work. This is similar to what one does when they miss interoperating another s feelings and personality causing pain and no gain for the observer. New stereotypes, boxes , assumptions, etc. all have encroached on a person s worldview. One comes to see others in a whole new way by theories like the Attribution theory and its Fundamental Attribution error, along with Cognitive Dissonance theory all of which involve one s actions and attitudes. One of the theories is the Attribution theory. Attribution theory is when individuals discover the causes of behavior as part of the one in observation. This theory suggests that people are motivated to discover the deep meaning of their behavior as that person makes sense of other s behavior. The Attribution theory has three dimensions that help describe what a person discovering the meaning of those behaviors and attributing them to different causes. Those three causes are internal or external, stable or unstable, and or controllable or uncontrollable causes. Consequently, these causes have many situations that go along with them. Briefly, internal and external causes ask whether or not that behavior was specific to a character trait or was that action outside of his or her character and just a ... • 36. My Favorite Stories From The Hat, Sam I Am Who Does Not... My favorite stories from when I was young consisted of iconic characters such as The Cat in the Hat, Sam I Am who does not like green eggs and ham, the Grinch and his dog and many more. These characters are the basis of what shaped my childhood and my now love of reading. The man behind these fictional characters is Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. He had such a way with words that reached not only his target audience of children, but became a phenomenon across the country with adults as well. Quickly, these tales of characters have captured the hearts of many people and will be passed along for many generations to come. Dr. Seuss keeps children entertained while also educating them through the messages he uses and the creativity he inspires. Theodor Seuss Geisel, the author some of the most entertaining and creative children s stories ever written, went by a different name: Dr. Seuss. He, jokingly, wanted to save his given name for the Great American Novel he had planned on writing, but never got around to it (Morgan). However, the real story on how he got his iconic name was much different. While he was studying at Dartmouth, he and some friends were caught throwing a party that broke the current prohibition laws. Instead of being suspended, he was no longer able to write for the school s humor magazine, Jack O Lantern. Not wanting to give this up, he decided to write under a pseudonym. • 37. Socrates Views On Socrates To question what no man has questioned before, that is what we praise Socrates for. Socrates Philosophies grew out of his questioning of the social norm. Using this technique, he seems to always focus on three main aspects: justice, virtue, and morality. Socrates claims that he has no wisdom. He states, I know I have no wisdom, great or small. The world has an infinite number of possibilities and anything he declares understanding, is extremely minimal compared to the possibilities that exist in the world, there is so much out there that hasn t been exposed yet. Socrates had many thoughts and ideas over things people never even took time to think about. He thought differently and always more intensely than others. Socrates says that knowledge is essential to a person. He concluded that a person s evil and wrong actions come from their ignorance and their failure to investigate. He was also convinced that no one knowingly does wrong, if a person does not know what is right, then that person will do wrong, but in the other hand, if the person knows what is right, they will most definitely do right. He once mentioned that the unexamined life is not worth living introducing the idea of Universal Definitions, meaning although individual things may vary and be constructed differently the definitions of how they are similar, are permanent. The most important thing about Socrates was the fact that he was a teacher. He taught anywhere and everywhere, he even went up to people, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
