Causes And Effects Of The Indian Ocean Tsunami
When people ask me how it felt, I just say imagine being thrown into a washing machine and someone
pressing on for 10 15 minutes (Crashing Down: A Tsunami Survivor Tells His Story), says Victor
Israelsson, a survivor of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. The Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004 was a
massive disaster in size, affects, and casualties. On December 26, 2004 the Indian Ocean erupted into
one of the biggest tsunamis in Earth s recorded history. The tsunami was caused by a massive 9.0
earthquake that was located near the coast of Sumatra. The extreme movement of the Earth s tectonic
plates displaced water in the Indian Ocean. The energy of the quake was compared to the equivalent of
23,000 Hiroshima type bombs. The energy forcibly shot through the ocean in every direction and
displaced the sea floor. The Indian Ocean Tsunami traveled around 300,000 miles to Africa, but still
carried the momentum to kill people and destroy property. Scientists concluded that the tsunami height
was between 9m high along the entire stretch of the coast, the average tsunami height is 3m (10 ft).
The Indian Ocean Tsunami caused waves three times bigger than the average tsunami, the Indian
Ocean Tsunami was the third largest tsunami in the 2000 s. An inverse method is developed to
optimize the seafloor displacement on the fault plane based on the measurements of satellite Jason 1.
Many things were affected during this tsunami, some things bigger than others. During the Indian

Comics, since the beginning of the World war 2 and now. Comics have been modern art and
superheroes such as Captain America and the Avengers to Dark Horse s DC comics anti hero Batman

many comics about fighting hitler and how the battles went down in Vietnam. Most comics were
written during the second world war during the vietnam war. Most WW2 comics had captain america

A Day Of Freedom From Original Writing Essay
She did not want to leave without any mention, and took a piece of paper and penned her explanation.
A note dedicated to Mauricio, for him to find on her bed. When she was done she rolled her way out
of the building totally covert, and just like that she went missing. Uncontrollable tears ran down her
face but Luna opted this was not going to be her walk of shame. Rather a walk of freedom from a
relationship that was going to waste her life and get her nowhere. No matter how much she loved
Mauricio she was clear, she was too old to wait and put the boy through college. She was too old to be
told what to do. Over the reproach of damages caused by her mother. And, unwilling to relive her past
bad decisions on the daily. Strong and bold, holding her chin up, was Luna Festenpool, who had no
shame in stepping outside her comfort zone, and made up her mind to get married August 3rd! Ten
minutes passed between Luna leaving the building and Mauricio coming through her apartment door.

Informal Leadership In Sports Organizations
A leader is someone who directs a group where to go. This person exists in almost every team and
group (Vercillo, 2016). I have not been in a business organization, but I have been in a sports
organization, which have vast similarities. The entire program of a sports team is like a business
organization, and is supervised by a head director. In addition, the coaches are like the business top
managers and the players are like the employees in a business.
With sports, many leaders are within a team. I personally have been a coach, formal leader, and a
player, informal leader, when it comes to an organization, and I know that both are vastly important.
Through my experiences with dealing with sporting teams, I believe the best leaders are people ...

Formal leaders, coaches, show the entire team the path in where to go. In some cases, the agenda of
the formal leader and the informal conflict. In cases in my organization, the coach wants the best of
the entire organization allowing every kid an opportunity to learn from its mistake. In addition, the
informal leader, the player, wants what is best for the team to win at all costs. To solve this problem,
there has to be clear communication between the player and coach. Formal leaders and informal
leaders have to coexist in order for the betterment of the organization and team.
According to article, Leadership to the Power of 8, leaders have to manage and then lead self, other,
context, and system, they become of necessity increasingly attentive and increasingly intentional
(Hamilton, 2012). There are certain qualities leaders have to possess in order to lead effectively.
Qualities as responsibility, respect, and confidence are traits that both formal and informal leaders
have to show its followers for them to have reassurance of their leadership. I believe that leading by
example is the best way to lead because it shows their followers what is expected from them

An Educational Leadership Department At A Major Research...
Dayton and Shoto (2006) present a case study regarding an educational leadership department at a
major research university, faculty members have become disgruntled as a result of a declining
organizational culture fueled by a lack of leadership from an insecure departmental chairman. The
department itself had experienced a long standing positive history within the university, and was a
cash cow due to the number of credit hours, tuition funding per faculty, and local and state service
projects. Despite this background, the future of the faculty was uncertain, as their value to the
university had diminished and changes within the university were occurring to which they were
unresponsive.
Coupled with these changes, great tension and conflicts within the department signaled to the faculty
members that what had been was no more , that is, their world had changed and the positive
experiences that they had come to enjoy was no longer being afforded them. The department had a
cast of characters who as faculty members were miserable in their positions, did not like going into
work, and felt stuck professionally. They were at a loss in not being able to move forward. Their
interactions with each other had degenerated over time. The chairperson, Adolf Petty, who was an
unlikeable, hateful, bitter and jealous individual, focused on minor infractions by faculty members and
obsessed with rules, regulations, and hierarchy. After a no confidence vote at a faculty meeting, Petty

The Phenomena Behind Equity Risk Premium Discussion For 35...
Literature Review
The phenomena behind equity risk premium discussion for 35 years, was first took place in Robert J.
Schiller s work done on volatility of equity prices. The research conduct by Schiller (1982),
highlighted the difficulty of explaining the historical volatility of stock prices. The results of Shiller s
paper stunned the profession at first as most of economists felt discount rates were close to constant
over time. The intuition behind the unpredictability of volatility, later named volatility puzzle by
scholars who have studied this paradox as well. Just after 3 years from Schiller work on historical
volatility, Mehra and Prescott (1985) introduced the equity premium puzzle. It is mainly based on the
lack of evidence for a high risk premium in terms of consumption growth. In other words, investors
require and have high returns which have low covariance with consumption growth. Using Schiller s
data collected on the volatility puzzle, they have found out that between 1889 and 1978, the
consumption growth rate, the indicator for opportunity cost of investors is insufficient to explain 6%
risk premium. Moreover, it was so high that the findings suggested only a risk premium of 0.35% on
top of the risk free rate. Behavioural finance approached this puzzle based on preference of investors.
The decision making process of investors on investing on equities and why do they require high risk
premium and fear equities this much. One of the leading papers on the

Urban Progression In Australia
In 1800 only 3% of people lived in a city of 1 million or more; by the year 2000, it was 47%. In 1950
there were only 83 cities worldwide with populations over 1 million; by 2007 there were 468. In April
2008, the world passed the 50% urbanization mark. Cities have evolved into a more complex space
inter linked by a number of systems and planners generally have failed to read the Urban Progression
and thus cities have failed significantly in terms of the Quality of Life of the urbanites.
This chapter reviews the importance of urban progression and their significance in present urban
context of Queensland. The first section 2.1 tells us about the origin and definition of urban
progression, in section 2.2 we discuss about the present and future urban densities of Queensland
which play an important role is defining the urban sprawl and the changes in the housing forms i.e.
section 2.3. Through these studies we can correlate between density, housing and its types.
2.1 Defining Urban Progression
It is traditional urbanism − not dense Modernism − that offers the solutions to the planet s ecological
problems.

of mass to volume or by quantity of matter in unit of bulk . In the spatial sciences, density is a measure
of the concentration, grain, tightness of pattern, cluster or intensity of beings or substance within a
defined space or territory. Urban density is a term used to describe the dimensions of relationships
between attributes of urban substance and being; for example, dwellings or person per hectare.
However there is no beset definition of urban area to measure urban density, so it is generally defined

Populism In America
Populism was valuable in how it has impacted the United States rhetoric that is still evident in the
modern day especially in the Presidential Election of 2016. For example, Bernie Sander s campaign of
protection of the 99%, and Donald Trump s rhetoric of protecting the forgotten people who are
overlooked all take inspiration from the Populist platform. Populism has had both positive and
negative influences in America, however, some aspects of Populism is found internationally in Latin
America and Europe as well. The positive aspect of Populism can be found in American policies that
safeguard protections over the citizenry. For instance, maximum hour laws and the Australian ballot

However, this growing distrust and resentment the Populists often fell victim to gives rise to an
ethnoreligious nationalism where this resentment fuels into violence within the country. Figures such
as Donald Trump appeal to the plain people because he exemplifies the resentment and contempt
aspect of Populism by dwelling on the threats posed by outsiders . He establishes his rhetoric on the
basis of a hierarchy existing in the country and that certain groups who are true American should reap
the rewards that have been denied to them. He claims to be the mouthpiece for the common man who
has been ignored by the government and deserve to be heard. Throughout the American rhetoric,
Populism echoes the Lockean liberal thought of liberal thought of the social contract, the emphasis on
the Republic for the common person, and the patriotism stemming from Providentialism and
Ascriptive Americanism.
Overlooking such an influential style of thought would disregard the reforms Populism had inspired as
a safeguard for the common man. Further, Populism is a product of aspects of Liberalism,
Republicanism, Providentialism and Ascriptive Americanism. These elements are still influential in
modern day America, which have had both positive and negative effects on American life Populism
needs to be included as part of the United States rhetoric because of its impact on

English 102
March 20th, 2015
Dover Beach Analysis The poem, Dover Beach, written by Matthew Arnold compares human faith to
a sea s roaring waves crashing against a shore. The speaker is someone living in a house among Dover
Beach on the coast of New England s northern sea. The speaker is talking with someone else in the
house as Arnold writes, Come to the window, sweet is the night air! (Line 6)! Also the person being
spoken to can later be interpreted as a wife or husband as the speaker states, Ah, love, let us be true
(Line 29). The first stanza has a positive beginning by describing the scenery of the beach, the full
moon, the moon s light glimmering onto the sea, and the sight of the French coast in the distance. The
intense imagery puts the reader in a dynamic scene at the peaceful beach, watching the waves brush
the pebbles back and forth onto the shore. The tone in the first stanza may seem peaceful; however, it
depicts stillness for the reader. As the speaker watches the waves move back and forth, it is just a rinse
and repeat process that is observed over again. The stanza may begin on a positive note, but ends on a
negative note as the speaker states, The eternal note of sadness in (Line 14). Human misery begins to

Analysis Of The Movie Temple Grandin
During class, the teacher showed us two movies during the course of the semester revealing the lives
of two important people and their significance of their actions.. The first movie was Temple Grandin ,
which told a story of a young woman who suffered repeated setbacks from her autism throughout the
entirety of her life. Mostly, ridiculed by her peers and even in her male dominated profession, Animal
Agriculture. Grandin remain persistent in achieving her goals and eventually overcame her
oppositions one by one. Similarly, Invictus follows the familiar theme of rising against adversary with
Nelson Mandela sworn into office after the disintegration of the South Africa s apartheid, the nation

nation, with support of the president and the South African people the team eventually won the Cup
and achieve unification. Overall, I believe Temple Grandin delivered the better picture than Invictus

Spirituality Across Britain Differ From Aboriginal...
Spirituality across Britain differs from Aboriginal spirituality in numerous ways. Religion was a very
important aspect in nineteenth century Britain, although it could be reasoned that their individual
spirituality was less developed compared to that of the Aborigines. This is because the religions at the
time were very strict on what followers should and shouldn t do. The entire of the religion s followers
followed the guidelines set by the church. was There was no one major religion in eighteenth century
Britain different religions that were important included Church of England, Catholic and Presbyterian.
There was a lot of importance put on tangible objects in these religions there was the sacred texts
books which contained guidelines for how to live their lives, holy deities who were seen as not being
capable of wrong doing and strict customs. An individual person s spirituality was commonly the
same as every other member of the religion. Aborigines were and continue to be very deeply
connected to their spirituality.

Differences Between Domesticated And Wild Animals
There are notable differences between domesticated and wild animals. They are more obvious when
compared between different breeds of the same species. For most domesticated species, the variations
within an organism are usually descended from a single wild species. Variation arises from natural
selection, and refers to variation both within and between species. Darwin did not believe that all
domesticated species arises from a common wild ancestor, however, modern genetics disproves this.
Research shows that all domesticated dogs arise from their wild ancestor, the wolves. Similar trends
are found in other domesticated animals like cats, horses, cows, and birds. Specifically, I will be
analyzing the trends in domestication of fowl and poultry. Fowl includes two orders of birds: landfowl
(chicken, quail, pheasant) and waterfowl (duck, goose, swan). Fowl typically refers to wild birds.
Poultry indicates birds that are domesticated and raised for meat or eggs. By analyzing the behavior,
evolution species variation, and domestication of birds, we can determine the traits selected for
different species. Through domestication, many breeds of birds have evolved with alterations that
could be seen as adaptations to the environment.
Behavior of Wild Fowl It is widely known that the domestication of an organism involves numerous
changes: genetically, physically, socially, mentally. An interesting occurrence to note is reduction in
brain size from wild to domestic animals. As

Gullah Or Sea Island Creole English
Background information about the African languages that contributed to Gullah.
Gullah (or Geechee or Sea Island Creole English) formed separately on the Sea Islands off the coast of
the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida throughout the 18th and 19th centuries among enslaved Western
Africans. They developed a language that combined grammatical, phonological, and lexical features
of the non standard English varieties spoken by white slaveholders and farmers in that region of the
United States along with those from numerous Western and Central African languages. According to
this view, Gullah developed separately, or distinctly, from African American English and varieties of
English spoken in the South.
Why was English first introduced?
English was first introduced in these sea islands and surrounding areas due to the large amount of
West African slaves that were taken from their home country that had many different dialects (Wolof,
Malinke, Mandinka, Bambara to name a few). Due to the difference in dialects a similar language was
needed for them communicate so English was used as it was a prevalent and accessible language
commonly spoken by slaveholders.
The Southern American English Variety.
Gullah developed from Southern American English. Which originated from a combination of
immigrants from the British Isles, who moved to the American South in the 17th and 18th centuries,
and from prior creole or post creole speech of African slaves.

The Time Of The Butterflies By Julia Alvarez Essay
The Dominican Republic is a place where novels take place and authors are raised. In the book In the
Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez, focuses her attention on writing about her life for others to
see. Although the book was not published until 1994, Alvarez portrays her younger days into the book
and how the time was back then in the 1950 s. Moving through the novel, readers see an overview of
the book, the life of the author and how it all can all relate to the culture of dictatorship in the
Dominican Republic. In this non fiction historical novel, it allows readers to get a sense of the lives
the girls went through. Readers learn from the very beginning something traumatic has happened for
only one of the four sisters to be alive. A chill goes through her, for she feels it in her bones, the future
is now beginning. By the time it is over, it will be the past, and she does not want to be the only one
left to tell their story (Alvarez 10). As the exposition starts off, Dede, the only sister alive, is asked
about her sisters which lead to a trip down memory lane. One of the three sisters decides to get
married and have children while the other two decide to join the revolution against Trujillo which
leads to the conflict of the story. Patria is the oldest of the three who chose to get married at an early
age and have children. Dede the second oldest who is the one telling the story. She is also the sister
who stayed alive and is the only one who strayed away from

The History Of The Big Ear Radio Telescope
Have you ever pondered what may lie beyond our solar system? Perhaps you ve decided that there is
no way anything could be out there, in the empty, seemingly endless void we call space. However,
perhaps there is other life out there, life more advanced than us, perhaps life just now exiting what to
us would be the stone age, the possibilities are truly infinite. Personally, I believe there are other
beings out there in the vast expanse. On August 15th, 1977 at 11:16 PM EDT the Big Ear Radio
Telescope located at the Ohio State University received an unknown radio transmission that came
from somewhere seemingly within the Sagittarius Constellation, bearing the hallmarks of
extraterrestrial origin. Eighteen years prior to this, Two Cornwell ... Show more content on

Paradox states whether or not we are alone in our galaxy, and if not, where is everyone? In life there
are filters, or rather, great barriers for life to overcome. For example, some filters we may have to go

The Portrayal of the Contemporary Society in Talking Heads
We have been studying three different monologues written by Alan Bennett. They are Her Big Chance
involving Lesley an actress, Bed Among the Lentils with Susan, a vicars wife and A Chip in the Sugar
including Graham who still lives with his mother. In this essay I am going to discuss how
contemporary society is portrayed in all three. There are many different issues in our society which are
raised in talking heads, for example: religion, ageism and sexuality.
Sexuality
Sexuality is involved in all three monologues, but more in Graham s. All throughout A Chip in the

We can see her make her make similar excuses for things she doesn t like in other places in the
monologue.
There is also very little sexuality included in Susan s monologue. Geoffrey, her husband has just
finished a sermon on sex, and she has over heard Miss Budd and Miss Bantock s discussion. Not to
mention whatever shamefaced fumblings go on between Miss Budd and Miss Bantock. It s alright if
we offer it to God, Alice well if you say so Pauline. Here Susan is implying that they are lesbians.
Religion
Religion is quite important part of the monologue Bed Among the Lentils as Susan, the main
characters husband is a vicar. I think that the whole thing briefly suggests that in our time not as many
people have such strong beliefs as they did 50 years ago. This can be seen in a lot of sarcastic remarks
which Susan makes. So Geoffrey concludes, when we put our money in the plate it is a symbol of
everything in our lives we are offering to God and that includes our sex. I could only find 10p This is
saying that she doesn t think much of her sex life and also shows how weak her beliefs in God are.

China s Effect On Child Labor
Imagine a twelve year old child getting up every morning going to work in a factory instead of going
to school to get an education. Yes this is the reality in China for many young children. While here is
the US many children at the age of 12 are in elementary school, children in China are working in
factory industries making toys and other goods to export out to the US and other countries. For years,
China has engaged in the use of child labor, wage levels below international standards, and unsafe
ergonomic conditions.
Some facts about China is that they are a communist country and currently the president of China is
Xi Jinping. They have the largest population of people in the world with more than 1.3 billion people.
There was a one child policy per couple in effect and that policy has recently been amended. A few of
their major cities like Dogguan, and Tianjin have been found guilty of child labor abuse
(Asianhistory.About, 2014).
China entered the WTO in December 2001. It had been a long process of negations with the WTO

the country s politics and policy making process to produce conditions that would allow them to

Hepatic Portal Vein Obstruction ( Ehpvo )
Introduction: Extra hepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO), i.e., in the absence of liver cirrhosis or
abdominal cancer, is a rare manifestation of venous thrombosis that often leads to portal
hypertension1.After prothrombin, factor V, next most common cause of thrombophilia is high plasma
levels of coagulation factor VIII, which are present in approximately 20% of patients with deep vein
thrombosis (DVT) of the lower limbs and increase the risk of the disease in a dose dependent manner
2. Like fibrinogen, factor VIII is an acute phase reactant whose concentration rises in plasma in the
presence of inflammation. However, high factor VIII levels are associated with an increased risk of
DVT independently of the acute phase reaction3.
Case report: A 21 year old male in good health and with no significant past medical history presented
with abdominal pain for 2 months in epigastric and left hypochondrium. He is not on any drugs.
History of similar complaints in his younger sister and she died 2 years back without any evaluation. A
contrast enhanced computed tomography scan of the abdomen showed superior mesenteric vein
thrombosis with multiple collaterals in perigastric and porta hepatis. A coagulation profile work up
was done. His factor VIII activity concentration was found to be 260% of normal (normal: 60 150).

An Architect, Former U.s. President Of The National...
As an architect, former U.S. president Thomas Jefferson came up with architectural designs that came
to define and influence American architecture and culture in general. This form of Neo Palladianism
and Neo classism architecture came to be known as Jeffersonian architecture. Some of his notable
structures include Monticello (his home), Poplar Forest which was his retreat, the University of
Virginia which he founded as well as other homes which he designed for his political allies and
friends, a good example being Barboursville. His style gained popularity in the early American period.
Similarly, it was during the same time that the more conventional Greek Revival architecture was
gaining popularity with his help. With his architectural designs, he later came to define America s
national identity and culture.
Background
Most famously recognized as the father of the National Architecture in America, Thomas Jefferson
sought to make American ideals and its culture unique from that of Europe, from where they had their
origins ( Architecture is My Delight n.p). At the time Jefferson was developing his architectural skills,
America was undergoing its revolution and therefore it needed an identity of its own, something that
made it standout; and that is what Jefferson had set out to achieve. In a letter he wrote to James
Madison regarding the project of the Virginia State Capitol while on a tour of Europe (Paris, France),
Jefferson states, I am an enthusiast on the subject of

The Rhetorical Analysis Of The King s Speech
In the film The King s Speech , written by David Seidler and released on November 26, 2010, the
filmmaker portrays Albert being constantly under pressure for speaking correctly, by comparing his
speech to great broadcasters who are anything but great leaders. The pressure that comes from Albert s
father, King George V, results in more frustration for the both of them, without either of them realising
that to lead a country into greatness depends more on just speaking well. Throughout the film, there
had been ideal speech models like Hitler, David, and King George V, shown in order to compare their
speech to Albert s and to show what a great speaker has to sound in order to gain the public s support.
Ironically, all of those speech perfect models turned out to be egocentric individuals and the least
egotistical leader, Albert, is the one with the impaired speech. I argue that in The King s Speech , the
characters who serve as models of ideal speech are figures of oppression, therefore the author is
implying that the idea of having ideal speech does not live up to it s praise.
Oppressive leaders like Hitler have used public speaking in order to bring destruction to the world like
war. In the scene when the royal family is watching him on the projector, Hitler is controlling a mass
army while speaking with a powerful tone in a fast and concise pace. Hitler s body language also
represents the intensity of his message to his country by pointing his fingers vigorously. The

A. S. Byatt s The Pink Ribbon
A. S. Byatt s story The Pink Ribbon is a story about change in a marriage as a result of a traumatic
experience, as well as how the struggle between duty and love manifests themselves. In this story, a
man doing what he thinks is his duty becomes overwhelmed with feelings of anger, fear, and
resentment after his transition from spouse to caretaker. Through seemingly imagined encounters with
a beautiful young woman, this man is reminded of his wife and what it is like to have meaningful
contact with another person that is not consumed by taking care of someone else, which causes him to
make a choice in the name of mercy, both for himself and his wife. Byatt shows the changes in James
and Madeleine s relationship through the use of diction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James believed the doll Dipsy was equivalent to Mado, so the use of the word suffocating suggests
that he thought Mado was suffocating or trapped and the only way to help her was to give her release
through death, although it also could be hinting at the method he was going to use. Byatt wrote that
every time James went outside he took huge gulping breaths, which suggests that James felt trapped
himself and might have thought that if Mado were no longer around he would be able to breathe again.
James visits from the fetch (234) ,Dido, also foreshadow Mado s death. A fetch in folklore is an omen
of death. Since Dido reminded him of his wife and what their relationship used to be like, it makes
sense that Mado s death was forthcoming. The last instance of foreshadowing is in the final paragraph
of the story, ...the Teletubbies were sitting on the end of the casket shaped cradles,... (236), which,
again, goes back to the symbol of the Teletubbies doll. The idea of the Teletubbies going to beds that
were shaped like coffins proposes a parallel to where Mado was going to spend her last moments,
which is emphasized by James telling Mado to Come to bed,...Just a rest, for a while, (236). So, are
duty and love really different things? Merriam Webster defines duty as something that is done as part
of a job; something that must be done because it is morally right, and love as a feeling of strong or
constant affection for a person. James sense

The Fight Between Male And Female Manager
Regardless of the amount we adore our jobs, the greater part of us can hardly wait to get past the work
week. Also, at times no measure of coffee can wake us up or propel us to complete our assignments
before the end of the day. In any case, on the off chance that you have a female manager, then risks are
you might find that additional inspiration to build your efficiency.
In the fight between a male versus female manager, you may expect that a male supervisor may be
superior at running the show, since guys are frequently seen as natural born leaders. Individuals who
act in ways that are incongruent with their sex role tend to be evaluated negatively (Eagly and Karau,
2002). This incongruity can create problems for female managers because characteristics necessary to
be a successful leader are more frequently associated with the male gender role (Elsesser and Lever,
2014). In the United States today, females from one perspective are commended as having the right
blend of abilities for initiative, yielding unrivaled leadership styles and extraordinary efficiency. Then
again, there seems, by all accounts, to be across the board acknowledgment that ladies regularly come
in second to men in rivalries to achieve leadership positions. Females are still depicted as struggling
for access to leadership positions and in addition prejudice and resistance when they occupy these
roles.

Antigone Tragic Hero Essay
According to Aristotle, the main idea of a tragic hero is a person who brings about feelings of pity or
of fear for their situation in an audience (Hogue, Tragic Hero). The character will cause a series of
events that will lead to their tragic downfall, which is normally their death. In the case of The Oedipus
Plays of Sophocles, the story of Antigone evokes the most pity from the audience. At the beginning of
her story, she realizes that she is breaking a law set by Creon, but that doesn t sway her decision. She
will honor the death of her brother even if it causes her own; she is extremely loyal to her family, and
also too stubborn to allow the threat of death that hangs above her head to change her mind. Antigone

brother some respect. While the reasons for Jocasta s death were that of shame and guilt, Antigone s
death showed loyalty and bravery. Her father took away a gift that the gods gave him, and her brothers

statue as a long overdue contribution mission to embrace and represent the contributions of the

conducting research of who Onate was. I honestly believe that if each official in the El Paso City
Council was to make a decision based on these methods, they would go against the Houser project for
sure. The arguments made by the groups testifying were based on the objective whether or not the
project should be completed. The side that testified that the completion of the sculpture shouldn t be
accomplished had a claim that correlated to who Onate was. From the claims made, they made a point
that Onate was a man who slaughtered, killed, raped people to steal their land. He treated them with
disrespect and building a sculpture of him and putting it in the middle of El Paso, would bring shame
to the city because he was a murder, not someone who anyone should look up to. Art has a powerful
meaning attached to it, and the sculpture to the Native Americans represented racism and reminded
them of the terror their ancestors went through which was overall a traumatic experience. The people
who supported the sculpture did not really know who Onate was, all they cared about was publicity

Health Information Technology For Economic And Clinical...
In the past, our healthcare distribution system predicated its payments solely on the number of
accommodations provided and not on the quality of care distributed to patients. As a result, patients
might receive redundant tests, medication errors, or accommodations that might not ameliorate their
health and may cost them more in copayments or coinsurance. As required by the Affordable Care Act,
Health and Human Services (HHS) launched several initiatives to link payments more proximately

Essay Comparing Chickamauga And To Paint A Water Lily
In the short story Chickamauga and the poem To paint a water lily there are many similarities to be
found. In Chickamauga, Ambrose Bierce tells a tale of a young boy living in the south during the Civil
War. The boy goes out to explore the woods and through a series of traumatic events discovers the
painful realizations of what the so called real world entails. Like in Chickamauga , To Paint a Water
Lily also depicts two different worlds. Ted Hughes mentions how most people generally perceive a
pond, and then how one would perceive it after studying it immensely. You learn that the life of a
water lily is not beautiful and calm, but rather the opposite. Both of these narratives dive into the
importance of looking more closely at your reality to see what it really is rather than what you think it
may be. Looking closely at Chickamauga, there are many times throughout the story when the boy
completely misunderstands what is actually happening to him. Starting with an example found in the
fourth paragraph, it states Advancing from the bank of the creek he suddenly found himself confronted
with a new and more formidable enemy: in the path that he was following, sat, bolt upright, with ears

Analysis Of Cyrus Ascension Of The Throne
Greek society put forth some of histories greatest works of writing, producing some of histories

through his military experience was able to gain insight into the inner workings of Persian society and
culture under the rule of Cyrus. His authoring of the work Cyropaedia and other Persian related
sources showcase Cyrus tactics and reformations put into place in order to successfully rule over a
vast multicultural society. It is clear that Cyropaedia is not necessarily meant to be truly written as a
historical document of Cyrus ascension to the throne. The sources authored by Xenophon instead

the eyes of Xenophon as he uses Cyrus life in order to put forth his own philosophical ideologies.

Issues Of The Modeling Industry
Issues in the Modeling Industry Fashion is everything to society and the media, but everyone wants to
look good while feeling beautiful in their own way. Everyone believes that fashion is an easy,
fashionable, and sophisticated style. Today, the modeling industry has become negative for older and
younger women. The people in the industry do not prefer unhealthy body images such as pictures of
overweight women. Women suffer from depression and anxiety. The modeling industry has been very
harmful towards women in America. It effects women by not achieving a healthy, being strong, and
confident body image regardless of shape and size.
Having a skinny body is very important in the modeling industry. Bigger women always get turned
down. This makes them feel unhealthy and not as beautiful as the other women that are modeling. The
hard part for models is to keep their weight down to a certain number, otherwise, they are not allowed
to model anymore. Today, in America many women are suffering from eating disorders, and other
negative behaviors which make women do things to their body that they should not do. Men are
attracted to healthy women regardless if the woman is older. Most modeling agencies prefer skinny
women because they believe having smaller women as models would attract men there to support
them. The media thinks being overweight is ugly which is unfair for bigger women because women of
any size should be able to model. The media shows thin women on television

Ambush By Tim O Brien Summary
War Changes People (A Discussion of 3 Messages from Ambush) Sometimes the smallest things can
be the biggest surprises. Tim O Brien is an award winning fiction writer. He wrote a short story,
Ambush, about a man, Tim, who has gone to war and ended up throwing a grenade and killing another
soldier. He felt very guilty and ever since has always remembered it. The soldiers also carry stories:
stories that connect the past to the future ... (Calloway). These stories are never forgotten and will
forever be known and thought about. Many events that happen in this story come out surprising to the
readers. In Ambush, by Tim O Brien, there are 3 important messages or big surprises. The biggest and
most obvious surprise in Tim O Brien s story, Ambush, is when Tim threw the back the grenade,
killing the other soldier. This was a big surprise because the man wasn t into killing people and never
really wanted to kill anybody. He was really shocked that he did that and felt guilty afterwards. In

How Did The Ironworks Affect The Economy
The perspective of many historians and textbooks usually consist of the same general understanding of
specific issues in American history. For example, key events or battles such as _____, or common
trends that aid in the understanding of how society operated at that point in history. However, many
American history textbooks avoid the topic of widespread manufacturing industries in the south, and
their simultaneous development with the much more powerful agricultural industry. Set in the Deep
South, the state of Alabama cultured an ever growing ironworks industry that manufactured items
spanning from farming tools to railroad tracks. In addition, Georgia, which is still famed for their

Already, it can be deduced that having a local ironworks would have a positive effect on the local
economy, as it would be significantly cheaper to purchase tools that had much lower shipping costs
because of where they were manufactured.
In addition, this ironworks was one the earliest, and inspired others to start ironworks. For example,
the Alabama ironworks received information published about them in the Franklin County
Tuscumbian in 1824 . The article described the ironworks as being having a forge, furnace, and saw
and grist mills. This means that the forge supplied their own fuel, purified iron ore, and wrought the
iron into tools for farms. Despite many ironworks not still being here today due to the civil war, it is
understood that there were many ironworks in Alabama that aided in the southern economy through
both aiding plantations and though the eventual exports.
Another significant ironworks in Alabama was the Shelby Ironworks. Although most of the ironworks
development was during the civil war, it consisted of major developments during the antebellum
period leading into the civil war. One of the significant advantages to this forgery was that there was a
very large deposit of iron ore near the furnace, giving the ironworks a great advantage when it came to
quality and quantity of their products. Like the Tannehill ironworks, the Shelby ironworks also sold
tools to local farm in Alabama. However, they also sold raw

equipment, focusing on controlled growth, limited availability, and embodying the polo lifestyle.
Originally developed for polo players, the initial customer base of La Martina was comprised of polo
players, teams and clubs. This niche market, with only 7,000 to 8,000 professional players and 20,000
casual players worldwide, is concentrated in only a few countries across the world. As polo is
typically played by more elite segments of the society, La Martina also targeted its products at
socialites who were either avid polo players or enthusiasts, who not only had an ... Show more content

Entering the fashion segment, the company can conquer new geographical markets, including places
where polo is not played. Given La Martina s brand image as a well established maker of quality and
high end goods with a genuine mission, customers are likely to be loyal to the brand and continue to
buy the new products. The experienced employees of the company as well as PMG would help to
further strengthen the position of the new, more diversified La Martina. Finally, since fashion also
varies across geographic locations, designs must be custom made based on the local tastes. This
should not be significant problem for La Martina, as it already has experience in catering to individual
national markets.
Although La Martina goods are high quality and high end, Lando has taken great care to present them
more as functional products for polo rather than fashion. The new fashion products could be hard to
promote among the company s original customer base, polo players and polo aficionados, as the brand
perception often drives the future sales of the company. For this reason, promotions must be
strategically focused to maintain company credibility, ensuring that original customers as well as new
customers are satisfied with the new products. Moreover, the fashion industry is a fast changing one.
La Martina has to cope with the new challenge of this constantly changing

Goals Of The Team And The Goal Of A Team
Goals of a team: A team is a group of people who come together to achieve a goal or complete a
particular task. Most teams share the same vision, mission, goals, values and trust. The team members
must first understand the vision of the company and the team goals must be aligned with the
organisational goals. The team members share a common purpose and are committed to the attainment
of those goals. The team members work together to produce an outcome that represents their joint
contributions and they share the responsibility for such outcomes. Once the goals are set by the
organisation the teams are given the freedom and flexibility to do the job without the interference of
the management. These teams are autonomous and self managed. ... Show more content on

The talented employees in the organisation must be retained and developed as a high performing
workforce. Managing talent should be used as a business strategy to attract and retain an active
workforce. Very few organisations are able to manage their employee s talent well. Companies can
very well make a replica of a product or copy a service idea or lower prices and compete, but
replicating Talent is not possible and is therefore considered to be a scarce resource. Therefore,
organisations should build the ability to hire, retain, and develop talent at all levels in the organisation.
The process of managing talent involves all aspects of an employee s life cycle. Selection,
development, succession, and performance management. In order to build effective teams and to retain
the talent within the organisation, the managers must empower the team members to set the goals,
develop plans and make decisions. The manager must ensure that the team members participate in
selecting, evaluating, and rewarding the members. The leader of the team is focussed on developing
the team structure and process, and the team is responsible for the monitoring process and group

Pros And Cons Of Television On TV
According to Juliet Schor, TV has been considered as a promoter of consumerism or TV is a popular
alternative way to costing a lot of spending such as concerts, restaurants, and shopping. Therefore, the
more TV a person watches, the more he/she will spend. In other words, what we see on TV every day
inflates our sense of what s normal or what s not, and what we should be buying just to look like the
lifestyle in TV. Ironically, the lifestyle depicted on TV are far different from the typically Americans
lifestyle, because those characters in the TV are upper middle class with glamorous clothing or even
the rich people. Besides, watching a lot of TV leads to a significant increase in crime rate. The most
important crime is larceny. Because by watching those products on TV made people who didn t have
that want to have and led to steal them. Likewise, by watching the TV, people have imbedded
themselves in the unbearable lifestyle, which is filled with tennis courts, private planes, swimming
pool, private cinema, private gym and separated vacation homes. By seeing these things, people start
to feel the need to spend more than what they should, and care less about the consequences they re
about to face.
The role of luxury good advertisements does create many significant problems. Those ads such as
cars, diamonds, perfume, dresses, and other expensive items have placed a wrong image in people s
mind. It affects us by showing us the real information about those items, but in a

  • 2. Causes And Effects Of The Indian Ocean Tsunami When people ask me how it felt, I just say imagine being thrown into a washing machine and someone pressing on for 10 15 minutes (Crashing Down: A Tsunami Survivor Tells His Story), says Victor Israelsson, a survivor of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. The Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004 was a massive disaster in size, affects, and casualties. On December 26, 2004 the Indian Ocean erupted into one of the biggest tsunamis in Earth s recorded history. The tsunami was caused by a massive 9.0 earthquake that was located near the coast of Sumatra. The extreme movement of the Earth s tectonic plates displaced water in the Indian Ocean. The energy of the quake was compared to the equivalent of 23,000 Hiroshima type bombs. The energy forcibly shot through the ocean in every direction and displaced the sea floor. The Indian Ocean Tsunami traveled around 300,000 miles to Africa, but still carried the momentum to kill people and destroy property. Scientists concluded that the tsunami height was between 9m high along the entire stretch of the coast, the average tsunami height is 3m (10 ft). The Indian Ocean Tsunami caused waves three times bigger than the average tsunami, the Indian Ocean Tsunami was the third largest tsunami in the 2000 s. An inverse method is developed to optimize the seafloor displacement on the fault plane based on the measurements of satellite Jason 1. Many things were affected during this tsunami, some things bigger than others. During the Indian Ocean Tsunami ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dayton and Shoto (2006) present a case study regarding an educational leadership department at a major research university, faculty members have become disgruntled as a result of a declining organizational culture fueled by a lack of leadership from an insecure departmental chairman. The department itself had experienced a long standing positive history within the university, and was a cash cow due to the number of credit hours, tuition funding per faculty, and local and state service projects. Despite this background, the future of the faculty was uncertain, as their value to the university had diminished and changes within the university were occurring to which they were unresponsive. Schiller s work done on volatility of equity prices. The research conduct by Schiller (1982), highlighted the difficulty of explaining the historical volatility of stock prices. The results of Shiller s paper stunned the profession at first as most of economists felt discount rates were close to constant over time. The intuition behind the unpredictability of volatility, later named volatility puzzle by scholars who have studied this paradox as well. Just after 3 years from Schiller work on historical volatility, Mehra and Prescott (1985) introduced the equity premium puzzle. It is mainly based on the lack of evidence for a high risk premium in terms of consumption growth. In other words, investors require and have high returns which have low covariance with consumption growth. Using Schiller s data collected on the volatility puzzle, they have found out that between 1889 and 1978, the consumption growth rate, the indicator for opportunity cost of investors is insufficient to explain 6% risk premium. Moreover, it was so high that the findings suggested only a risk premium of 0.35% on top of the risk free rate. Behavioural finance approached this puzzle based on preference of investors. The decision making process of investors on investing on equities and why do they require high risk premium and fear equities this much. One of the leading papers on the ... Matthew Arnold Dover Beach Tone Meraf Degaga Mrs. Pollack English 102 March 20th, 2015 Dover Beach Analysis The poem, Dover Beach, written by Matthew Arnold compares human faith to a sea s roaring waves crashing against a shore. The speaker is someone living in a house among Dover Beach on the coast of New England s northern sea. The speaker is talking with someone else in the house as Arnold writes, Come to the window, sweet is the night air! (Line 6)! The first stanza has a positive beginning by describing the scenery of the beach, the full moon, the moon s light glimmering onto the sea, and the sight of the French coast in the distance. The intense imagery puts the reader in a dynamic scene at the peaceful beach, watching the waves brush the pebbles back and forth onto the shore. The tone in the first stanza may seem peaceful; however, it depicts stillness for the reader. As the speaker watches the waves move back and forth, it is just a rinse and repeat process that is observed over again. • 21. Differences Between Domesticated And Wild Animals There are notable differences between domesticated and wild animals. They are more obvious when compared between different breeds of the same species. For most domesticated species, the variations within an organism are usually descended from a single wild species. Variation arises from natural selection, and refers to variation both within and between species. Darwin did not believe that all domesticated species arises from a common wild ancestor, however, modern genetics disproves this. Research shows that all domesticated dogs arise from their wild ancestor, the wolves. Similar trends are found in other domesticated animals like cats, horses, cows, and birds. Specifically, I will be analyzing the trends in domestication of fowl and poultry. Fowl includes two orders of birds: landfowl (chicken, quail, pheasant) and waterfowl (duck, goose, swan). Fowl typically refers to wild birds. Poultry indicates birds that are domesticated and raised for meat or eggs. By analyzing the behavior, evolution species variation, and domestication of birds, we can determine the traits selected for different species. Through domestication, many breeds of birds have evolved with alterations that could be seen as adaptations to the environment. Behavior of Wild Fowl It is widely known that the domestication of an organism involves numerous changes: genetically, physically, socially, mentally. An interesting occurrence to note is reduction in brain size from wild to domestic animals. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gullah (or Geechee or Sea Island Creole English) formed separately on the Sea Islands off the coast of the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida throughout the 18th and 19th centuries among enslaved Western Africans. They developed a language that combined grammatical, phonological, and lexical features of the non standard English varieties spoken by white slaveholders and farmers in that region of the United States along with those from numerous Western and Central African languages. According to this view, Gullah developed separately, or distinctly, from African American English and varieties of English spoken in the South. Why was English first introduced? English was first introduced in these sea islands and surrounding areas due to the large amount of West African slaves that were taken from their home country that had many different dialects (Wolof, Malinke, Mandinka, Bambara to name a few). Due to the difference in dialects a similar language was needed for them communicate so English was used as it was a prevalent and accessible language commonly spoken by slaveholders. Not to mention whatever shamefaced fumblings go on between Miss Budd and Miss Bantock. It s alright if we offer it to God, Alice well if you say so Pauline. I think that the whole thing briefly suggests that in our time not as many people have such strong beliefs as they did 50 years ago. This can be seen in a lot of sarcastic remarks which Susan makes. It had been a long process of negations with the WTO formerly the GATT. For China this was a big step. The process took about 15 years before China was accessioned into the WTO. According to an article Free trade it took this long mainly due to getting the country s politics and policy making process to produce conditions that would allow them to submit a bid into the WTO and eventually become part of the WTO (Harold, 2008). • 29. An Architect, Former U.s. President Of The National... As an architect, former U.S. president Thomas Jefferson came up with architectural designs that came to define and influence American architecture and culture in general. This form of Neo Palladianism and Neo classism architecture came to be known as Jeffersonian architecture. Some of his notable structures include Monticello (his home), Poplar Forest which was his retreat, the University of Virginia which he founded as well as other homes which he designed for his political allies and friends, a good example being Barboursville. His style gained popularity in the early American period. Similarly, it was during the same time that the more conventional Greek Revival architecture was gaining popularity with his help. With his architectural designs, he later came to define America s national identity and culture. Background Most famously recognized as the father of the National Architecture in America, Thomas Jefferson sought to make American ideals and its culture unique from that of Europe, from where they had their origins ( Architecture is My Delight n.p). At the time Jefferson was developing his architectural skills, America was undergoing its revolution and therefore it needed an identity of its own, something that made it standout; and that is what Jefferson had set out to achieve. In a letter he wrote to James Madison regarding the project of the Virginia State Capitol while on a tour of Europe (Paris, France), Jefferson states, I am an enthusiast on the subject of ... • 30. The Rhetorical Analysis Of The King s Speech In the film The King s Speech , written by David Seidler and released on November 26, 2010, the filmmaker portrays Albert being constantly under pressure for speaking correctly, by comparing his speech to great broadcasters who are anything but great leaders. The pressure that comes from Albert s father, King George V, results in more frustration for the both of them, without either of them realising that to lead a country into greatness depends more on just speaking well. Throughout the film, there had been ideal speech models like Hitler, David, and King George V, shown in order to compare their speech to Albert s and to show what a great speaker has to sound in order to gain the public s support. Ironically, all of those speech perfect models turned out to be egocentric individuals and the least egotistical leader, Albert, is the one with the impaired speech. I argue that in The King s Speech , the characters who serve as models of ideal speech are figures of oppression, therefore the author is implying that the idea of having ideal speech does not live up to it s praise. Oppressive leaders like Hitler have used public speaking in order to bring destruction to the world like war. In the scene when the royal family is watching him on the projector, Hitler is controlling a mass army while speaking with a powerful tone in a fast and concise pace. Hitler s body language also represents the intensity of his message to his country by pointing his fingers vigorously. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Byatt s story The Pink Ribbon is a story about change in a marriage as a result of a traumatic experience, as well as how the struggle between duty and love manifests themselves. In this story, a man doing what he thinks is his duty becomes overwhelmed with feelings of anger, fear, and resentment after his transition from spouse to caretaker. Through seemingly imagined encounters with a beautiful young woman, this man is reminded of his wife and what it is like to have meaningful contact with another person that is not consumed by taking care of someone else, which causes him to make a choice in the name of mercy, both for himself and his wife. Byatt shows the changes in James and Madeleine s relationship through the use of diction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... James believed the doll Dipsy was equivalent to Mado, so the use of the word suffocating suggests that he thought Mado was suffocating or trapped and the only way to help her was to give her release through death, although it also could be hinting at the method he was going to use. Byatt wrote that every time James went outside he took huge gulping breaths, which suggests that James felt trapped himself and might have thought that if Mado were no longer around he would be able to breathe again. James visits from the fetch (234) ,Dido, also foreshadow Mado s death. A fetch in folklore is an omen of death. Since Dido reminded him of his wife and what their relationship used to be like, it makes sense that Mado s death was forthcoming. The last instance of foreshadowing is in the final paragraph of the story, ...the Teletubbies were sitting on the end of the casket shaped cradles,... (236), which, again, goes back to the symbol of the Teletubbies doll. The idea of the Teletubbies going to beds that were shaped like coffins proposes a parallel to where Mado was going to spend her last moments, which is emphasized by James telling Mado to Come to bed,...Just a rest, for a while, (236). In any case, on the off chance that you have a female manager, then risks are you might find that additional inspiration to build your efficiency. In the fight between a male versus female manager, you may expect that a male supervisor may be superior at running the show, since guys are frequently seen as natural born leaders. Individuals who act in ways that are incongruent with their sex role tend to be evaluated negatively (Eagly and Karau, 2002). This incongruity can create problems for female managers because characteristics necessary to be a successful leader are more frequently associated with the male gender role (Elsesser and Lever, 2014). In the United States today, females from one perspective are commended as having the right blend of abilities for initiative, yielding unrivaled leadership styles and extraordinary efficiency. Then again, there seems, by all accounts, to be across the board acknowledgment that ladies regularly come in second to men in rivalries to achieve leadership positions. Antigone Tragic Hero Essay According to Aristotle, the main idea of a tragic hero is a person who brings about feelings of pity or of fear for their situation in an audience (Hogue, Tragic Hero). The character will cause a series of events that will lead to their tragic downfall, which is normally their death. In the case of The Oedipus Plays of Sophocles, the story of Antigone evokes the most pity from the audience. At the beginning of her story, she realizes that she is breaking a law set by Creon, but that doesn t sway her decision. The arguments made by the groups testifying were based on the objective whether or not the project should be completed. The side that testified that the completion of the sculpture shouldn t be accomplished had a claim that correlated to who Onate was. From the claims made, they made a point that Onate was a man who slaughtered, killed, raped people to steal their land. He treated them with disrespect and building a sculpture of him and putting it in the middle of El Paso, would bring shame to the city because he was a murder, not someone who anyone should look up to. In Chickamauga, Ambrose Bierce tells a tale of a young boy living in the south during the Civil War. The boy goes out to explore the woods and through a series of traumatic events discovers the painful realizations of what the so called real world entails. Like in Chickamauga , To Paint a Water Lily also depicts two different worlds. Ted Hughes mentions how most people generally perceive a pond, and then how one would perceive it after studying it immensely. You learn that the life of a water lily is not beautiful and calm, but rather the opposite. Both of these narratives dive into the importance of looking more closely at your reality to see what it really is rather than what you think it may be. Looking closely at Chickamauga, there are many times throughout the story when the boy completely misunderstands what is actually happening to him.
