Summary Of Margaret Atwood s The Journals Of Susanna Moodie
In Margaret Atwood s book of poetry, The Journals of Susanna Moodie she dives into the
psychological dimension of the immigrant experience in Canada through the eyes of the persona,
Susanna Moodie. Susanna Moodie is used as the persona to demonstrate her gradual growth and
development as a person from a land of civilization to a person accepting a land of wilderness, to
explore how nature can force even those most stubborn to change. Margaret Atwoodbegins Moodie
s story with Disembarking at Quebec where the audience is able to see the her total alienation of
the land and isolation of her surroundings is self constructed. In this poem, Susanna Moodie is
just arriving to Canada yet she already has fixed thoughts and grows a hatred for the country.
She speaks of the landscape of nature The glare of sun , The moon alien , The rocks ignore
because it is all so foreign to her sensibility making her feel as she is a word in a foreign
language . For her the transition is difficult as she is an individual who has grown to live by
language of order and is now being forced into a language of wilderness. Margret Atwood
compiled 2 separate fire events Moodie endured in her life and in doing so utilized imagery to
exhibit her psychological exploration in coming to terms with the new land. Atwood shows the
significant differences between the two fires while still connecting them using key image elements
of light, darkness and trees. In both instances the trees are seen

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime Analysis
Every day, we are faced with decisions that challenge our moral values. Having a straight needle
on an individual s moral compass is always one of the best things that they can have. It teaches
them right from wrong, and tells them when they have to interfere and do the right thing. This
summer, the theme of this project was to do the right thing , and I was required to read two
books. I chose to read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, as well
as Going Bovine by Libba Bray. Both books immediately grabbed me by the hand and took me into
their worlds, along with learning the important lessons behind both Christopher and Cameron s
stories. The emotions of each individual character play an important part in the development of the
characters, as well as the storyline. In Going Bovine, one emotion I noticed... Show more content on

My knees buckle. I m on the floor, shaking. Above me, the fire giants laugh, and I felt it in my
body like a virus I can t eject. Help me. Help me. Help me. (Bray, 75) During this quote, the
toaster catches on fire, and the effects of the Mad Cow disease start to kick in as he starts to
hallucinate fire giants. His hallucinations cause him to see things that are often larger than life.
Cameron s fear begins to really take effect when he realizes that he is rendered immobile and is
helpless to the images that are currently in front of him. Another emotion I noticed in Going
Bovine from Jenna was anger when she found out that Cameron punched Chet. You punched
Chet! Jenna s so pissed she actually takes out a non fat free pudding cup. (Bray, 60) Jenna, as a
sister, is embarrassed to have Cameron as a brother. The fact that her brother punched the guy who
she could have a potential relationship with most likely scared her, so she took her out her anger
to the source of her fear,

Coors Brewing Company Case Study
Background
The Coors Brewing Company was founded back in 1873 by two German immigrants Adolph
Coors and Jacob Schueler. The two combined invested $20,000, $18,000 of which came from
Schueler and the other $2,000 from Coors. The location of the brewery was in the mining town
of Golden, Colorado. This location was picked because Mr. Coors believed the key ingredient in
beer was the water source. The river that flowed through this mining town was perfect for his
beer. The two investors worked together for seven years until Coors bought out Schueler and
became the sole owner of the brewery in 1880. When prohibition finally hit Colorado in the year
1916, Mr. Coors was forced to find other means of making money. The brewery was converted to
produce malted milk which he would then sell to candy companies. Four years after Adolph
Coors passing, in 1929, prohibition is ended and his son, Adolph Coors Jr., takes over the family
business. The distribution range of the company quickly expands and by 1948, it stretches across
11 states. It would remain this way for almost 30 years before they start to expand to try and reach
a nationwide audience. In 2005, now in its fourth generation of Coors family management, the
Coors Brewing Company votes to merge with Molson Brewing Company in Canada to form the
Molson Coors Brewing Company. Together they are the world s seventh largest brewer. Two years

Reflection On Career Development
A.This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson encourages
students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests.
Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their
strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future careerpaths. Some of the specific aspects of
career development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting
and obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success,
and teaching students where and how to obtain information about post secondary options. In
this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers
into the appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about
careers that are of interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be
given resources in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not
expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early
to get students thinking about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and
future that they desire. I also believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as
well as academic development. This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and
work in groups as well as in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows
students to take an inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self esteem
and promotes a sense of self awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development.
Students will understand that good grades and academic success are key elements to obtaining the
career that they wish to have. By being academically successful, this will allow them greater options
and opportunity post high school graduation.
B.In today s world, I feel as though it is very important to incorporate technology into lesson
plans. Technology helps keep children engaged and we are now living in a world where technology
is all around us. I was able to

East Stroudsburg s Speech And Hearing Center
On Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 at 2:00 PM I observed an hour and forty five minute
secession at East Stroudsburg s Speech and Hearing Center. East Stroudsburg s Speech and
Hearing Center is located on campus, in the town of East Stroudsburg PA, on the second floor of
Monroe (building). The clinic at ESU was very clean and organized. It had multiple therapy and
diagnostic rooms that were set up nicely and welcoming for a client. The types of population
seen at the ESU s clinic range from any age for speech therapy or audiological visits. The clinical
audiologist I observed was Susan Dillmuth Miller Au.D., CCC A, FAAA.. The secession started
at 2:00 PM, and began in the audiology room where there is the main therapy room and then two
sound treated rooms separated by a glass window. The sound treated rooms have been modified
in a special way (double wall, incandescent lighting, floor suspended etc.) which results in
blocking out unwanted noise to allow for reliable testing results (DeBonis and Donhue, 2008).
Dr. Miller seated the patient in the main therapy room where she introduced herself to the client
and gave her an overview of what was going to be taking place during the secession. The client I
observed in junior high previously had Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). The client s
complaint was that it was sometimes difficult for her in class to listen and understand. The client s
visit was to get a check up to see if her ADP was still significant or got worse from when

1825 To 1850 Dbq Analysis
The democratic values of the united states can be described most commonly as Life, Liberty, and
the pursuit of happiness. In 1825 to 1850 several reform movements came to light, the abolitionist
movement, the womenВ’s rights movement, and the reformation of the naturalization law. Were
these core ideas held by reformers during 1825 1850? The statement, В“Reform movements in the
United Statessought to expand democratic idealsВ” can be assesed by studying the three
aformentioned reform movements.
Abolitionists in the mid 1800s dedicated themselves to bringing the end slavery in the United
States. It is important to know that most abolitionists were not necessarily interested in equality at
first. Abolitionists were mostly northern based and dealt with strong opposition in the early years of
their moral campaign from people in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stanton is known for speaking about women s rights at the Seneca Falls Declaration on August 2,
1848 (doc I). Stanton argued that is equality was a democratic ideal of the United States then why
were women not granted equality. While men had the right to chastise and imprison their wives
(doc I), yet women were not even allowed in the voting booths to represent themselves in the
government under which we (they) live (doc I). This was not equality in fact Stanton and many
other women worked hard in order to shorten this gap, Stanton was seeking to expand the core
democratic value of equality specifically equality of the sexes. Although Stanton s efforts were not
effectively introduced to the nation until later the efforts shown in this particular reform movement
proves the validity of the statement В“Reform movements in the United States sought to expand
democratic idealsВ”. During the same time period as Stanton a man named Samuel F.B Morse was
trying to lessen equality specifically the equal rights of

Welders Essay
Welders are a large part of the construction industry. Welders build frames for large buildings and
things like bridges. Welders build support frames for many things. They put together car frames
and piece together pipes for gas lines and oil field work. Welders could be called pipefitters,
boilermakers, and ironworkers. Welders must have 500 hours a labor put in before a holiday to
get a paid holiday. Paid holidays include Memorial Day, labor day, 4th of July, thanksgiving,
Christmas day, and new year s day. Welders don t have many off days. Your employer needs you
to show up to work. If you don t show up to work you cost the company you work for time and
money. Welders get full benefits. Welders work in some dangerous places. They work in high
and tight places. Welders get good dental insurance because there is a possibility you can lose a

The three main types of welding are tig, mig, and stick welding. There is also underwater welding
which isn t as common because its much more dangerous. Mig welding is when a wire electrode
is used to join 2 pieces of metal together. Mig stands for metal inert gas. Mig welding can be used
for thin or thick metals. Shielded metal arc welding (stick welding) is a solid metal electrode that
is covered in a flux coating. Stick welding isn t as sensitive to wind as mig welding is. Which
means you can weld outside or in places that have a draft easier than with a mig welder. Stick
welding is usually used to weld iron and steel but nickel and aluminum can also be welded this
way. Tig welding, tungsten inert gas welding. Has a non consumable tungsten electrode that
directs the electric current. The welder is usually ran with gas like argon or helium to help clean
the metal being welded. You use a filler metal to melt the two metals together. Tig welding can be

The Pricing Strategy Of T Shirts
This type of pricing gives customers a good deal and encourages them to buy more which saves
on packaging in which seller gives quantity discount. In this case the bundle of 5 T shirts s priced
lower than the sum of the price of individual T shirt. This type of pricing is based on the demand
schedule where customers may have high willingness to pay for T shirt but not for 5 T shirts, and
the pricingdiscount is to match customer willingness to pay. 5 T shirts are packed for one price
using a bundling pricing which is a second degree price discrimination that used to extract
consumer surplus. This is an example of a promotional bundle in the mixed bundling category in
which the bundled price of the 5 Tshirt is lower than the total price of individual product price
added together. The consumers have the choice of buying packs of 5 T shirts or buying a T shirt
without the pack. In this pricing strategy identical T shirts are packaged together in order to
enhance profits by forcing customers to make an all decision. The mixed bundling pricing
provides a means by which the company can get the consumer to pay the full value of the 5 units
of packaging 5 T shirt a product and selling them as one package, the company can earn more than
selling per T shirt price. The profit maximizing price is the 5 T shirt for $10 on a pack is the total
value the consumer receives for the package, including consumer surplus and business could
enhance profits even consumers have identical demands.

Let me introduce Bandara. Bandara has been working as the number two in a medium sized
organization for ten years. It has always been intimated that when Jeremy his boss retires or
leaves, Bandara will slip into the number one position and lead the organization. Barry has always
had some clear ideas on how he is going to take the organization forward when Jeremy is not there;
ideas that have not been taken up in the past.
Life being perverse, it had been decided to advertise the job externally and guess what? A better
candidate came up who has now been in post for three weeks. Bandera s new boss is a great guy,

Counsellor: Bandara, if I were in your position, what would you advise me to do?
Well done again counsellor. Getting an objective view on this.
Bandara: Well that is simple. Think through the ideas you have always had, refine them and get
them out of your head and onto paper (or a Word document). Not too long. Do not spend too
much time on it and keep it very brief an overview. Arrange to see the new number one, preferably
off site at a neutral venue, and tell him that you have always had these ideas but never shared then
and you would now like to share them and if anything was that good, maybe the organization can
adopt them.
You will either get an acceptance, in which case you will achieve what you have always wanted or
you will have a debate as to what can or cannot be adopted and you will have at least cleared the air
for yourself.
Counsellor: So Bandara what are you going to do?
Bandara: Crafty you have got me to resolve my own dilemma. Clearly, I shall take my own advice
and do just what I have recommended.
Thanks sir. I have gone from tragic to magic as Walt Disney would say and it s all down to you.

The Ecological Catastrophe Of The Dust Bowl
Between the 1930s and 1940s, the southwestern Great Plains region of America suffered a severe
environmental disaster known as the Dust Bowl, that resulted from the combination of a huge
water shortage and harsh farming techniques. The drought stricken plains experienced relentless
dust storms that swept through Texasto Nebraska, killing crops, livestock and people. The Dust
Bowlfurther intensified the devastating economical impacts of the Great Depression and drove
hundreds of families to migrate in search of work and better living conditions all the while
capturing the nation s artists, musicians, and writers.

The topic of war and peace has become an increasingly important area concerning international
relations over the past decade. Wars varying from Russia s invasion of Georgia, to the United States
involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan placed war on top of international politics agenda. These
wars, along with all other wars, are started for various reasons, which different international
relationstheories try to identify. Theories such as realism or institutionalism may have severely
different views on identical cases, and while all theories usually have some degree of merit,
opposing theories will find discrepancies in the views of one another s theories. In international

A liberal, someone who subscribes to the state society approach, would argue that, liberal theory
provides a plausible theoretical explanation for variation in the substantive content of foreign
policy. In other words, while realism and institutionalism may focus on the formal causes of
conflict and cooperation, such as military power; the state society approach explains state s
behavior with regard to certain contexts more appropriately. For example, why should the US
worry about a limited number of nuclear weapons possessed by North Korea, while countries like
Great Britain and France own much larger stockpiles of nuclear weapons? According to realist
theory, states are wary of long term treaties with other states, and therefore the United States should
be worried about those countries that pose a greater potential threat. As modern politics have
shown, this is, of course, not the case. States perceive threats not in the most potentially dangerous,
but in the enemy most likely to provoke war. It is also important to note, that during the course of
history, states change whom they believe to be perceived threats, another fundamental flaw with
both realism and institutionalism. Realism contributes, no theoretical importance, (p. 535) to the
advancement of economic development in international politics, while a liberal would argue that
the economic nature of a state has a direct affect on state behavior.

Examples Of Ethical Coding In Health Care
Healthcare Coding and Billing Standards of ethical coding are very important and should not be
taken lightly. When guidelines are not followed it can lead to large fines and can even cause a
healthcare organization to shut down. Making a mistake or willingly coding wrong can ruin the
reputation throughout the community for healthcare. Coding compliance is inherently linked to a
number of the preceding compliance risk areas including proper documentation, accurate billing,
medical records creation and retention, referral guidelines, and teaching physician rules.
Acknowledging that one of the biggest areas of risk for health care providers is the accurate
submission of claims and reimbursement to Medicare, an effective health care corporate
compliance plan will also include an effective coding compliance plan (AAPC, 2009). According
to Bryant (2017) examples of ethical coding principles include applying accurate data, reporting
only correct codes, refusing to skew data, maintaining confidentiality, maintaining integrity, and no
participating in inappropriate activities. Supervising If I were a coding supervisor, I would place
great emphasis on the Standards of Ethical coding in my area. Making sure to review them with all

When the coding and billing is wrong it can greatly affect the budget. It not only includes the
coding staff but also the physicians. There is a wide variety of factors that go into the payments an
organization gets back. Sometimes physicians mean to order a test and they forget or they ordered
it and did not send it off and these types of things affect billing. An organization may have to have
an average budget because knowing up front what will be collected can change at any time. Also,
the reimbursements from insurances are different so it depends on what insurance each patient

Douglas s Learning To Read And Write By Frederick Douglass
All humans are created equally and are born with free will. Every person has the natural right to
be the author of their life, meaning that they can make their own choices and pursue their
dreams. Nevertheless, humans bent nature to their will by adopting slavery, a practice in which
humans are owned and are brutally forced to work. In the excerpt Learning to Read and Write,
Frederick Douglass masters the literacy skills he needed to fulfill his role as an abolitionist,
bringing an end to slavery (Douglass 100). Throughout his piece, he addressed many important
concepts such as that reading is power but also a curse (Douglass 100). His main objective was to

society because of the choice he made (Douglass 101 102). For example, according to the

many favors to make them his teachers (Douglass 101). That is to say that Douglass was

New Monarchies In Spain Essay
New Monarchies in France, Spain, and England? What were New Monarchies ? The Middle
Ages were the peak of the New Monarchs. These monarchies lasted from 1460 to 1550. The
Roman Law was used by the New Monarchs. This law is civil law. They proclaimed themselves
the rulers of countries, and had the power to create their own laws. In the years before the 17th
century, the monarchs did not have autocracy. These monarchs increased taxes on the nobles, and
seized their land when they were not cooperative. The monarchies power grew with the military
revolution, which is when the military plan changed causing the government to also change. The
Church s power was decreased by the monarchs. Monarchs also took out loans which caused an
increment in debt. There were three main monarchies: France, England, and Spain.

The Physics Behind The Electric Vehicle
The Physics behind the Electric Vehicle It has been estimated that there will be approximately
1200 million motor vehicles by the year 2020. That is almost twice the number of cars that are
already traveling on our busy roads. Due to this ever increasing vehicle population, the demand
for fuel will continue to increase as well. With the depleting supply of oil already an issue for the
U.S. especially, there is a growing interest in alternative energy fuels that can be used to power
motor vehicles. Electric vehicles (EV) are one of the cleanest and most environmentally friendly
cars available at this point in time. By definition, an electric car is an automobilethat is propelled by
one or more electric motors, using electrical energy stored in rechargeable or another energy
storage device. The electric motors used in these cars gives off instant torque, creating strong and
smooth acceleration. Some of the models of EVs have an electric motor for each wheel. Having
these four motors not only allows for better propulsion, but also for the use of braking and
changing the kinetic energy back into chemical energy in the batteries. The traction that the car
gets is also increased with each wheel driving. In some of the EV models the electric motors can be
mounted directly inside the mounting for the wheel, which enables a loss of all the moving parts
between the motor and the wheel. When there is no axle, differential, or transmission, the EVs have
less drivetrain

Only one minor American passenger line had flourished for any length of time Aeromarine Airways.
After a number of widely publicized accidents in the ocean off of Florida, Aeromarine was in
decline, and was also turning the financial community against investments in airline enterprises.
Americans remained skeptical about air travel, and while not as fast as planes, ground
transportation was much safer. There were no strong objections however to improving an existing
government service. So it happened that organized air transport in the U.S. started with flying the
mail. And the way the early airmail service developed provided the springboard that would enable
American commercial aviation, by the late 1920s, to catch up with the Europeans and then to
surpass them (Air Mail 158).
The air freight industry was a dull and unpromising business until the 1960 s when commercial
airlines jumped into the competition in an all out effort to attract business from the nation s
industrial firms. Commercial airlines struggled to make a profit. They were convinced that putting
cargo in the extensive belly space below the passenger deck could be a lucrative profit center.
Delta, Eastern and United and others continued their all cargo service during the remainder of that
decade despite questions about the profitability of such service. Most of the carriers lost money

A basic problem was JetBlue s communication system. The ice storm had left a large portion of the
airline s pilots and flight attendants far from where they needed to be to operate the planes, and
JetBlue lacked the trained staff that was needed to find them and tell them where to go. Another
problem was the reservation system; the system was so overwhelmed that customers were unable to
get through to human agents to check on a flight.
4Did the airline handle the crisis well? Why or why not? What else could JetBlue have done to
improve the situation?
I believe the situation was handled well, because after the February 14th delays, JetBlue
executives developed a passenger Bill of Rights to help deal with the situation if it happens to arise
again. The Bill of Rights provides real compensation for delays and cancellations, and it is believed
to be stronger, deeper, and much more defined than any other customer commitments you could
find in the airline industry.
Although there was no way JetBlue could have prevented the cancelled flights due to bad
weather, they should have had risk management plan in effect addressing ice storms before this
incident occurred. Another solution to the problem would be to park incoming flights near the
gate and send a bus out to pick up the passengers. This way they wouldn t have to wait in the
plane until a gate is available or call other airlines and see if they can use there

Psoriasis Pathophysiology Essay
Psoriasis Pathophysiology Psoriasis is a common skin disorder affecting millions of people. It
affects 2 to 3% of the Caucasian population, usually in individuals between 15 and 30 years old.
(Liu, Krueger, Bowcock, 2007). There are several different forms of the disease. The most
common type is chronic plague psoriasis. It presents itself as silvery scaled patches usually on the
knees, elbows, lower back, and scalp. Outbreaks can be triggered by infection, such as strep throat,
drug use, psychological stress, hormonal changes and skin injury. The exact cause is still unknown;
however, research has provided some interesting insights into the pathophysiology of psoriasis. The

Although not yet verified, natural killer T cells also seem to play a role in the development of
psoriasis. T cells are not the only increased leukocytes in psoriasis patients. Neutrophils, mast
cells, dendritic cells, and natural killer cells are also increased. Dendritic cells are the other
important cell of study for psoriasis. There are three subsets of cutaneous dendritic cells which
include: immature dendritic cells (iDC), mature myeloid dendritic cells (mDC), and plasmacytoid
dendritic cells (pDC). All three are increased in patients with psoriasis. These cells overall could
equal or exceed the number of T cells in lesions. (Jullien, 2006). Langerhans cells are one type of
immature dendritic cell. There job is to engulf protein antigens by pinocytosis, partially digest these
proteins into shorter polypeptides, and move these polypeptides to the surface. (Fox, 2008). Once
they are at the surface, they are associated with histocompatibility antigen, which in turn activates
the T lymphocytes. As mentioned before, this unnecessary activation of T cells will lead to the
hyperproliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes. In order for these cells to be activated in a
way that causes the inflammatory process associated with psoriasis, they must migrate to the skin.
Recruitment of leukocytes out of the blood stream into the different skin compartments is an active
and selective process. (Jullien, 2006).

Inquisition every started in Spain, the main factor was that it allowed the christian leaders to
conquer Spain and take any control away that the Muslim authority had before. Another key factor

Walt Whitman and Puran Singh are the two great poets belonging to two different cultures.
Whitman inherited western cultural problematic and Puran Singh Eastern Indian and in particular
the Punjabi cultural problematic. These two cultures differ from each other in many ways yet one
finds a cord of identity both thematic and structural between the poetry of Whitman and Puran

Performance Based Design For An Integrated Solution
PERFORMANCE BASED DESIGN
The concept of achieving design with some focus on performance is not new, the tools and
methods that changes. To discuss performance for design, it is important to classify and separate
its functions and features. If a building consists of a set of parameters, the design process can be
associated to a balance act, where parameters are weight and arranged to п¬Ѓt the context of a
project.
In traditional architectural design, the use of measurable parameters often postponed or take place
in a later phase of the design process. The concept design is rather focused on aesthetics, plan
functionality and experience of spaces, however, this approach limits the success of an integrated
solution.
Today, there is an almost understood association with computational tools along with the
measurable parameters and thresholds. The massive power of computation makes it superlative for
repeating calculations, it could be useful in optimization algorithms for instance, and the target
parameters for the optimization have to be simple enough to be expressed in a computer algorithm.
In the application of structural engineering, these quantifiable and measurable parameters could
be mass, force, moment, deflection or even cost.

Should FDA promote more Process Analytical Technology and Quality by Design approaches for
more successful impact on manufacturers ability to maintain consistent quality? The Process
analytical technology (PAT) and Quality by design (QbD) approaches are used to create quality in

potential to increase efficiency in the production of a drug product. The two approaches offer

The QTTP identifies critical quality attributes (CQAs), which establish a limit or range to ensure a
desired process quality. The QTTP also identifies the critical process parameters (CPPs), which are
used to monitor or control a process to ensure the process produce the desired quality on a CQA.
The QbD works within the design space to achieve a process that performs consistent to CQAs and
CPPs affect on overall quality. A control strategy is used to ensure quality in the product is
maintained throughout the process and all phases of the product lifecycle. QbD can be used
throughout the entire lifecycle to improve efficiency and quality of the product. The process
analytical technology approach involves process understanding combined with monitoring in
process product attributes in real time by adjusting process parameters to build quality in a product.
The PAT approach combines process understanding, principles and tools, and strategy for
implementation. Principal understandings consist of understanding the variability of critical
sources, managing the process variables, and product quality is accurately predicted through the
design space. The PAT principles and tools help companies understand the physical, chemical, and
biological attributes, which provides information for process understanding. The knowledge
acquired from implementing process understanding and principles and tools are used to develop a
strategy for implementation. Why

Agricultural Workers In The Minoan Social Hierarchy
Historians do not think that agricultural workers had a high position in the Minoan social hierarchy.
This is due to the fact that we do not have a lot of sources which depict agricultural workers. This
suggests that they were not seen as important. However, the Minoans knew that agriculture was
important. This is made evident by the fact that they placed votive offerings at sanctuaries that
depicted animals and plants. This suggests that they were concerned with breeding animal and
growing crops. Additionally, they redesigned the Minoan palaces during the Second Palace Period
so that they could hold more agricultural products. Furthermore, all of the palaces and towns were
built next to fertile plains. This suggests that the Minoans thought

Mobile Phones Vs Cell Phones
Technology has made huge impact in how people are communicating, getting in touch with
someone has never been easier before! All you do is write a quick text and press send, but the
problem is when teens disconnect from their social media it is harder for them to be social face
to face. Adults on the other hand use their cell phones a bit differently than teens. Studies have
been made to compare how different age group use their precious cell phones that may or may
not have changed their lives. Cell phones are very helpful because they make it much easier to
get in touch with people and talk to them and without having to be with them at the time. But
studies have shown that different age groups use their phones a bit differently. For example, a
study done by the writer of Cell Phones are Changing Social Interaction, Deborah Forgays, and
Jessie Schreiber compares how different age groups use their cellphones. In this study they
found that the younger the person is the more text messages they send and receive in a day. In
the over 50 group, more than 80 percent send and receive fewer than 10 texts each day Teens text
and use social media much more and rely on it to contact friends. The study also showed that in
90% of all age groups made less than ten calls a day, so the only difference in age group is how
muchthey receive and send text messages. But in the end, we all use our phones for the same
reasons. I think we can all agree that cell phones have made our lives easier, but for some teens
face to face interaction has become harder for them. Texting is such an easy way to talk to
someone that it makes having a regular conversation seem harder. This can lead to bad
communication skills that you need to do important things such as applying for interviews we
won t know how to have proper communication , which can result in not getting the job. teens are
also known to get distracted by their phones while studying and as a student myself I know how
quickly you get get distracted on your phone while doing work. These distractions might lead to
bad grades and if students don t get good grades they might not get to go to a good college. So all

Appliance Maker the Challenge
Case 1: Appliance maker
The challenge
Senior executives at a large, low cost manufacturer of appliances and white goods were concerned
about the sluggish performance of the company s household fan business. It had long been among
the top leading players in the company s home country an emerging market but was now losing
domestic share in two important, and fiercely competitive, product categories.
The company s leaders suspected that a stagnant product portfolio was partly to blame; they had
been focusing a considerable amount of attention on operations and had neglected to revisit fan
designs for a couple of years. Meanwhile, an innovative upstart, also from an emerging market, had
begun competing with the manufacturer, both at home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet the teardown showed that as compared with competitors, the company was overbuilding its
products significantly and that identical or even better product performance was possible at a
lower cost if the team was willing to rethink its design approaches.
Some of the resulting design changes were quite straightforward and even, in retrospect, obvious.
Yet the team acknowledged that the new ideas didn t click until the teardown, when the evidence
was spread out on the table for discussion. By modifying the cover of one type of household fan,
for example, the team made it unnecessary to include an internal bracket assembly that had
supported the original cover a savings of 7 percent per unit. This change, like most cost saving
opportunities the team identified, was invisible to customers and didn t matter to them (for an
example of one model, see diagram).
Many of the individual cost saving opportunities the team identified were small. But the collective
impact was huge helping the company to reduce the total cost of manufacturing its fans by more
than 10 percent, against a cost base that was already quite competitive. Meanwhile, consumers
received the new designs well, and that contributed to a 50 percent jump in operating profit in the
first year of their introduction and helped elevate the company to the number two spot in the market
(up from number three) over that time span.

Downfall by Richard B. Frank
Downfall by Richard B. Frank was a very insightful book about the fall of the Imperial Japanese
Empire. The book was centered around the recounts and the opinions of Richard Frank on why
the Imperial Japanese Empire had collapse. He got his information from credited sources from
some highly classified documents from the time of all of the events had taken place. Throughout
the book, Frank made references about some minor reasons and major reasons as to why the
Empire had collapsed. His biggest reason was the dropping of the two atomic bombs. There will
be more details of that in the essay later on.
The first theme that Richard Frank had discussed dealt with the mini bombings that the United
States had down to Japan after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Frank said the reason for these raids
on Tokyo was to set the tone for what the United States was capable of. In other words, Frank felt
these raids were going to put Japan in the hole in a hurry. The raids were done by B 29s that
dropped many bombs on Tokyo. Frank said how these raids left tons of destruction to the city
and said how there were around 80,000 killed as a result of the raids. Frank described the city as
having constant fire that was hard to be put out. He said how this was Tokyo s biggest disaster
up till that date. Frank exclaimed how these raids had also slowed down the war process from
Japan. He said it was because of the shock factor the Japanese endured after the raids. Despite the

Firstly, let us find out what the criteria is for a profession. To have a profession it is generally a
field of study that you would require specialized training, for example have a special license to
do the required job. As a result this is not just a job but a passion and a career choice.
Furthermore, in a profession a code of ethics or standards is in place, and has a professional
organization that establishes guidelines like for example for nurses the ANA sets the standards
of care (p27). Therefore, is a RN a professional? Professional is defined as person who has
completed an extended study at an establishment of higher educational learning and considers
their permanent path as a passion and a career choice (p.28). Therefore, the career choice of a RN
is considered professional. Due to these circumstances, the RN falls into both of these categories

Barefoot Running Essay
Footwear, accepted and denied
Running for sport and recreation are perhaps as unique as the enthusiasts who first roused the
market. Today, that market (running shoes) is changing. While the 21st century has propelled us
into an age of hyper engineered performance gear and space age wicking fabrics; barefoot running
has reinvented the marketplace, while simultaneously inspiring the new generation (Sprinkle 2004).
The idea that running barefoot can be beneficial is a relatively liberal idea in a comparatively
conservative culture (today s running community, particularly with respect to shoes). And, while
the majority of research on the evolution of human locomotion has focused primarily on walking,
the demand for a new perspective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still, provided that running is generally considered to have played no major role in human
evolution it s likely that the shoe industry (in combination with barefoot advocates) will, for some
time, continue to influence popular opinion more than concrete, reliable research (Nature 2004).
In an August 2004 issue of Runner s World magazine, Amby Burfoot quoted England s Bruce
Tulloh: The only reason that more people don t run barefoot is that they re afraid to be
unconventional. Burfoot adds, Famous runners had gone barefoot before us, of course. In 1960
Ethiopia s Abebe Bikila, won the first of his consecutive gold medals sans shoes in a world
record 2:15:17. Though Burfoot and Tulloh s points are relevant, there is a heavy bias that
remains, attached to their competitive running accolades. Amby Burfoot was himself a
competitive U.S. Marathoner, whose peak years came in the late 60 s and early 70 s when he
won the Boston Marathon (1957) and competed twice in the Olympic Marathon (1956, 1960).
Likewise, when Bruce Tulloh and Abebe Bikila were breaking European records in the 50 s and
60 s; a greater number of runners were gunning for far lesser 5k and Marathon personal bests.
Burfoot and other more renowned high caliber, well conditioned athletes are themselves exceptions
to fundamental rules that govern mere mortals; And while competitive athletes do play a

Religiosity, Spirituality In African American Women
The research article for this week discussion was Religiosity, Spirituality, and Cancer Fatalism
Beliefs on Delay in Breast Cancer Diagnosis in African American Women. The researchers used
descriptive statistics, logistic regression analysis, Pearson r correlations, Mann Whitney U analysis,
and Chi Square analysis to evaluate the data (Gullatte, Brawley, Kinney, Powe, Mooney, 2010).
Furthermore, the researchers used the Cronbach s alpha coefficient, with is an instrument to
evaluate the internal reliability within the study (Polit Beck, 2008). Within the study, Cronbach s

The odds ratio is the probability something will occur over the probability that it wont (Plichta
Kelvin, 2013). Odds ratio should fall in between the confidence interval, in the study s case it
shows there is no statistical significance in when comparing the odds ratio to the confidence
intervals due to all odds radio falling in between the confidence intervals. The Pearson test is
where the researcher is able to determine if there is an association between two variables of
interval or ratio measurement (Plichta Kelvin, 2013). When examining the value calculated by
the Pearson test it is suggested that a value +/ 0.10 is weak, value of 0.30 is moderate or typical,
and +/ 0.50 is considered substantial (Plichta Kelvin, 2013). Furthermore, we can suggest that if
r equals 1 there is a negative relationship, or if r equals 0 there is no relationships, and lastly if r
equals +1 it indicates a positive relationship. In reviewing the relationship between variables, we
can conclude that is there is no relationship between fatalism and religiosity due to r=0.11 and
fatalism and spirituality due to r = 0.106. Furthermore, the p value was set at 0.05 for each of
these variables. The p value for fatalism and religiosity was 0.19 and for fatalism and spiritualty
was 0.23, subsequently since both these values are

Samsung being an employee centric organization believes in addressing the security and financial
issues raised through the usage of cash for T E related expenses by its employees. Samsung
Electronics tries to provide an ideal workplace where employees can take great pride in their work
and put their trust in management; a workplace where they are bolstered as their ambition is
fulfilled and rewarded (Samsung Company 2008).As an employer who believes that employees are
the key to success of the organization, a standard solution that enhances employee security and
convenience in carrying out their daily tasks was needed
In 2003, different corporate card programs were deployed across subsidiaries under Samsung
China to replace the use of cash reserves for the purpose of reimbursement to employees. There
was a lack of consistency in reimbursement policies as all the subsidiaries had their own corporate
card program. The presence of multiple issuers apart from other variables led to a lot of confusion
and complexity within the T E program of the company and lack of visibility on the exact amount
spent in T E related matters (Daniel, S. 2010).

The Issue Over The Existence Of Free Will Essay
Background
The up and coming fields of neuroscience and neuropsychology have the potential to break a
seemingly everlasting stalemate on the debate over the existence of free will. Breaking away from
a purely theoretical approach to discussing a philosophical question could shed some light into our
greatest existential dilemmas. German philosopher Martin Heidegger himself said, we ourselves
are entities to be analyzed, and that seems ever so fitting for the investigation into consciousness.
Although we have first person access to our conscious brain, the advancement of technology has
allowed previously inaccessible understanding of what goes on inside our heads. But much of our
brain and spinal cord, the scientifically agreed upon location of the self, is barely understood. But
as we apply reason and testing to our theories, we can learn more about the brain from a scientific
and philosophic viewpoint. We can finally marry the two fields through an agreement of reason and
questioning, agreeing with Rudolf Carnap that Logic is the last scientific ingredient of philosophy.
Introduction of Topic and Definition of Terms
We often act without conscious action. Reflexes like a knee jerk, or pulling away from a hot stove,
happen automatically. Even our conscious decisions happen as a result of environmental and
evolutionary factors that shape who we are. This, however, doesn t negate the existence of a self.
There may be an outcome, a path of atoms and energy changing since the

Social Media and Sexual Objectification of Women
Today, we live in a world where women are sexually objectified almost everywhere we look.
Halloween used to be fun and all about candy and cute costumes when we were children, but as
time goes on, adult women can feel pressured to dress up as something sexy, like a sexy bunny, a
sexy doctor, or a sexy tree somehow. In the marketing world, we now see women portrayed as
body parts, only having their legs shown in ads to sell the latest designer shoe or their
inexplicably wet lips on a billboard to promote an upper lip wax. Even in television and in
movies, women are depicted as being very sexual by their actions, dialogue, and barely there
clothing. Because of an increase in social media, videos from YouTube are being rapidly shared
between friends and amongst those videos are their favorite music videos from a popular artist.
Music videos have become more and more sexually explicit and include the sexual
objectification of women like the rest of our media, no matter what the genre of music is. One
has to wonder whether or not this kind of exposure has an effect on men and their sexual beliefs.
First, lets explore what is shown in music videos today and how women and men are presented.
Music videos now show that women just don t ever say no to sex and don t have a preference in
men. They will take whoever, whenever. On the off chance they do resist, they give in rather
easily, adding to our rape culture and the belief that no really means yes . Women are also portrayed

The people of Germany were forced to look up to Hitler and to strive for the Aryan Race. Hitler was
idolized and thought of as a hero or savior. They were brain washed into thinking they were the

to point out behavior out of the Nazi idealism. The young men of Germany were made into Nazi

  • 2. Summary Of Margaret Atwood s The Journals Of Susanna Moodie In Margaret Atwood s book of poetry, The Journals of Susanna Moodie she dives into the psychological dimension of the immigrant experience in Canada through the eyes of the persona, Susanna Moodie. Susanna Moodie is used as the persona to demonstrate her gradual growth and development as a person from a land of civilization to a person accepting a land of wilderness, to explore how nature can force even those most stubborn to change. Margaret Atwoodbegins Moodie s story with Disembarking at Quebec where the audience is able to see the her total alienation of the land and isolation of her surroundings is self constructed. In this poem, Susanna Moodie is just arriving to Canada yet she already has fixed thoughts and grows a hatred for the country. She speaks of the landscape of nature The glare of sun , The moon alien , The rocks ignore because it is all so foreign to her sensibility making her feel as she is a word in a foreign language . For her the transition is difficult as she is an individual who has grown to live by language of order and is now being forced into a language of wilderness. Margret Atwood compiled 2 separate fire events Moodie endured in her life and in doing so utilized imagery to exhibit her psychological exploration in coming to terms with the new land. Atwood shows the significant differences between the two fires while still connecting them using key image elements of light, darkness and trees. In both instances the trees are seen ... • 3. The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime Analysis Every day, we are faced with decisions that challenge our moral values. Having a straight needle on an individual s moral compass is always one of the best things that they can have. It teaches them right from wrong, and tells them when they have to interfere and do the right thing. This summer, the theme of this project was to do the right thing , and I was required to read two books. I chose to read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, as well as Going Bovine by Libba Bray. Both books immediately grabbed me by the hand and took me into their worlds, along with learning the important lessons behind both Christopher and Cameron s stories. The emotions of each individual character play an important part in the development of the characters, as well as the storyline. In Going Bovine, one emotion I noticed... (Bray, 75) During this quote, the toaster catches on fire, and the effects of the Mad Cow disease start to kick in as he starts to hallucinate fire giants. His hallucinations cause him to see things that are often larger than life. Cameron s fear begins to really take effect when he realizes that he is rendered immobile and is helpless to the images that are currently in front of him. Another emotion I noticed in Going Bovine from Jenna was anger when she found out that Cameron punched Chet. You punched Chet! Jenna s so pissed she actually takes out a non fat free pudding cup. (Bray, 60) Jenna, as a sister, is embarrassed to have Cameron as a brother. The fact that her brother punched the guy who she could have a potential relationship with most likely scared her, so she took her out her anger to the source of her fear, ... • 4. Coors Brewing Company Case Study Logan M. Smith CWID: 11528601 MGMT 4513 Coors Brewing Company Case Study Background The Coors Brewing Company was founded back in 1873 by two German immigrants Adolph Coors and Jacob Schueler. The two combined invested $20,000, $18,000 of which came from Schueler and the other $2,000 from Coors. The location of the brewery was in the mining town of Golden, Colorado. This location was picked because Mr. Coors believed the key ingredient in beer was the water source. The river that flowed through this mining town was perfect for his beer. The two investors worked together for seven years until Coors bought out Schueler and became the sole owner of the brewery in 1880. When prohibition finally hit Colorado in the year 1916, Mr. Coors was forced to find other means of making money. The brewery was converted to produce malted milk which he would then sell to candy companies. Four years after Adolph Coors passing, in 1929, prohibition is ended and his son, Adolph Coors Jr., takes over the family business. The distribution range of the company quickly expands and by 1948, it stretches across 11 states. It would remain this way for almost 30 years before they start to expand to try and reach a nationwide audience. In 2005, now in its fourth generation of Coors family management, the Coors Brewing Company votes to merge with Molson Brewing Company in Canada to form the Molson Coors Brewing Company. Together they are the world s seventh largest brewer. Two years later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Reflection On Career Development A.This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson encourages students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests. Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future careerpaths. Some of the specific aspects of career development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and teaching students where and how to obtain information about post secondary options. In this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers into the appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I also believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as well as academic development. This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as well as in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students to take an inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self esteem and promotes a sense of self awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development. Students will understand that good grades and academic success are key elements to obtaining the career that they wish to have. By being academically successful, this will allow them greater options and opportunity post high school graduation. B.In today s world, I feel as though it is very important to incorporate technology into lesson plans. Technology helps keep children engaged and we are now living in a world where technology is all around us. I was able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. East Stroudsburg s Speech And Hearing Center On Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 at 2:00 PM I observed an hour and forty five minute secession at East Stroudsburg s Speech and Hearing Center. East Stroudsburg s Speech and Hearing Center is located on campus, in the town of East Stroudsburg PA, on the second floor of Monroe (building). The clinic at ESU was very clean and organized. It had multiple therapy and diagnostic rooms that were set up nicely and welcoming for a client. The types of population seen at the ESU s clinic range from any age for speech therapy or audiological visits. The clinical audiologist I observed was Susan Dillmuth Miller Au.D., CCC A, FAAA.. The secession started at 2:00 PM, and began in the audiology room where there is the main therapy room and then two sound treated rooms separated by a glass window. The sound treated rooms have been modified in a special way (double wall, incandescent lighting, floor suspended etc.) which results in blocking out unwanted noise to allow for reliable testing results (DeBonis and Donhue, 2008). Dr. Miller seated the patient in the main therapy room where she introduced herself to the client and gave her an overview of what was going to be taking place during the secession. The client I observed in junior high previously had Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). The client s complaint was that it was sometimes difficult for her in class to listen and understand. The client s visit was to get a check up to see if her ADP was still significant or got worse from when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. 1825 To 1850 Dbq Analysis The democratic values of the united states can be described most commonly as Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In 1825 to 1850 several reform movements came to light, the abolitionist movement, the womenВ’s rights movement, and the reformation of the naturalization law. Were these core ideas held by reformers during 1825 1850? The statement, В“Reform movements in the United Statessought to expand democratic idealsВ” can be assesed by studying the three aformentioned reform movements. Abolitionists in the mid 1800s dedicated themselves to bringing the end slavery in the United States. It is important to know that most abolitionists were not necessarily interested in equality at first. Abolitionists were mostly northern based and dealt with strong opposition in the early years of their moral campaign from people in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stanton is known for speaking about women s rights at the Seneca Falls Declaration on August 2, 1848 (doc I). This was not equality in fact Stanton and many other women worked hard in order to shorten this gap, Stanton was seeking to expand the core democratic value of equality specifically equality of the sexes. Although Stanton s efforts were not effectively introduced to the nation until later the efforts shown in this particular reform movement proves the validity of the statement В“Reform movements in the United States sought to expand democratic idealsВ”. • 10. The Pricing Strategy Of T Shirts This type of pricing gives customers a good deal and encourages them to buy more which saves on packaging in which seller gives quantity discount. In this case the bundle of 5 T shirts s priced lower than the sum of the price of individual T shirt. This type of pricing is based on the demand schedule where customers may have high willingness to pay for T shirt but not for 5 T shirts, and the pricingdiscount is to match customer willingness to pay. 5 T shirts are packed for one price using a bundling pricing which is a second degree price discrimination that used to extract consumer surplus. This is an example of a promotional bundle in the mixed bundling category in which the bundled price of the 5 Tshirt is lower than the total price of individual product price added together. The consumers have the choice of buying packs of 5 T shirts or buying a T shirt without the pack. In this pricing strategy identical T shirts are packaged together in order to enhance profits by forcing customers to make an all decision. The mixed bundling pricing provides a means by which the company can get the consumer to pay the full value of the 5 units of packaging 5 T shirt a product and selling them as one package, the company can earn more than selling per T shirt price. The profit maximizing price is the 5 T shirt for $10 on a pack is the total value the consumer receives for the package, including consumer surplus and business could enhance profits even consumers have identical demands. ... A liberal, someone who subscribes to the state society approach, would argue that, liberal theory provides a plausible theoretical explanation for variation in the substantive content of foreign policy. In other words, while realism and institutionalism may focus on the formal causes of conflict and cooperation, such as military power; the state society approach explains state s behavior with regard to certain contexts more appropriately. For example, why should the US worry about a limited number of nuclear weapons possessed by North Korea, while countries like Great Britain and France own much larger stockpiles of nuclear weapons? According to realist theory, states are wary of long term treaties with other states, and therefore the United States should be worried about those countries that pose a greater potential threat. As modern politics have shown, this is, of course, not the case. States perceive threats not in the most potentially dangerous, but in the enemy most likely to provoke war. It is also important to note, that during the course of history, states change whom they believe to be perceived threats, another fundamental flaw with both realism and institutionalism. Realism contributes, no theoretical importance, (p. 535) to the advancement of economic development in international politics, while a liberal would argue that the economic nature of a state has a direct affect on state behavior. ... When guidelines are not followed it can lead to large fines and can even cause a healthcare organization to shut down. Making a mistake or willingly coding wrong can ruin the reputation throughout the community for healthcare. Coding compliance is inherently linked to a number of the preceding compliance risk areas including proper documentation, accurate billing, medical records creation and retention, referral guidelines, and teaching physician rules. Acknowledging that one of the biggest areas of risk for health care providers is the accurate submission of claims and reimbursement to Medicare, an effective health care corporate compliance plan will also include an effective coding compliance plan (AAPC, 2009). According to Bryant (2017) examples of ethical coding principles include applying accurate data, reporting only correct codes, refusing to skew data, maintaining confidentiality, maintaining integrity, and no participating in inappropriate activities. • 19. The Physics Behind The Electric Vehicle The Physics behind the Electric Vehicle It has been estimated that there will be approximately 1200 million motor vehicles by the year 2020. That is almost twice the number of cars that are already traveling on our busy roads. Due to this ever increasing vehicle population, the demand for fuel will continue to increase as well. With the depleting supply of oil already an issue for the U.S. especially, there is a growing interest in alternative energy fuels that can be used to power motor vehicles. Electric vehicles (EV) are one of the cleanest and most environmentally friendly cars available at this point in time. By definition, an electric car is an automobilethat is propelled by one or more electric motors, using electrical energy stored in rechargeable or another energy storage device. The electric motors used in these cars gives off instant torque, creating strong and smooth acceleration. Some of the models of EVs have an electric motor for each wheel. Having these four motors not only allows for better propulsion, but also for the use of braking and changing the kinetic energy back into chemical energy in the batteries. Only one minor American passenger line had flourished for any length of time Aeromarine Airways. After a number of widely publicized accidents in the ocean off of Florida, Aeromarine was in decline, and was also turning the financial community against investments in airline enterprises. Americans remained skeptical about air travel, and while not as fast as planes, ground transportation was much safer. There were no strong objections however to improving an existing government service. So it happened that organized air transport in the U.S. started with flying the mail. And the way the early airmail service developed provided the springboard that would enable American commercial aviation, by the late 1920s, to catch up with the Europeans and then to surpass them (Air Mail 158). The air freight industry was a dull and unpromising business until the 1960 s when commercial airlines jumped into the competition in an all out effort to attract business from the nation s industrial firms. Commercial airlines struggled to make a profit. They were convinced that putting cargo in the extensive belly space below the passenger deck could be a lucrative profit center. Delta, Eastern and United and others continued their all cargo service during the remainder of that decade despite questions about the profitability of such service. Passengers can also experience paperless ticketing, assigned seating with more legroom. These experiences have helped to streamline JetBlue s business strategy as being the best customer service in the airline industry. 2.What challenges did David Neeleman and his executive team face in managing the customer experience as the airline grew rapidly? A basic problem was JetBlue s communication system. The ice storm had left a large portion of the airline s pilots and flight attendants far from where they needed to be to operate the planes, and JetBlue lacked the trained staff that was needed to find them and tell them where to go. Another problem was the reservation system; the system was so overwhelmed that customers were unable to get through to human agents to check on a flight. 4Did the airline handle the crisis well? Why or why not? What else could JetBlue have done to improve the situation? I believe the situation was handled well, because after the February 14th delays, JetBlue executives developed a passenger Bill of Rights to help deal with the situation if it happens to arise again. The Bill of Rights provides real compensation for delays and cancellations, and it is believed to be stronger, deeper, and much more defined than any other customer commitments you could find in the airline industry. Although there was no way JetBlue could have prevented the cancelled flights due to bad weather, they should have had risk management plan in effect addressing ice storms before this incident occurred. Another solution to the problem would be to park incoming flights near the gate and send a bus out to pick up the passengers. This way they wouldn t have to wait in the plane until a gate is available or call other airlines and see if they can use there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It affects 2 to 3% of the Caucasian population, usually in individuals between 15 and 30 years old. (Liu, Krueger, Bowcock, 2007). There are several different forms of the disease. The most common type is chronic plague psoriasis. It presents itself as silvery scaled patches usually on the knees, elbows, lower back, and scalp. Outbreaks can be triggered by infection, such as strep throat, drug use, psychological stress, hormonal changes and skin injury. T cells are not the only increased leukocytes in psoriasis patients. Neutrophils, mast cells, dendritic cells, and natural killer cells are also increased. Dendritic cells are the other important cell of study for psoriasis. There are three subsets of cutaneous dendritic cells which include: immature dendritic cells (iDC), mature myeloid dendritic cells (mDC), and plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDC). All three are increased in patients with psoriasis. These cells overall could equal or exceed the number of T cells in lesions. (Jullien, 2006). Langerhans cells are one type of immature dendritic cell. There job is to engulf protein antigens by pinocytosis, partially digest these proteins into shorter polypeptides, and move these polypeptides to the surface. (Fox, 2008). Once they are at the surface, they are associated with histocompatibility antigen, which in turn activates the T lymphocytes. As mentioned before, this unnecessary activation of T cells will lead to the hyperproliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes. In order for these cells to be activated in a way that causes the inflammatory process associated with psoriasis, they must migrate to the skin. Recruitment of leukocytes out of the blood stream into the different skin compartments is an active and selective process. (Jullien, 2006). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Performance Based Design For An Integrated Solution PERFORMANCE BASED DESIGN The concept of achieving design with some focus on performance is not new, the tools and methods that changes. To discuss performance for design, it is important to classify and separate its functions and features. If a building consists of a set of parameters, the design process can be associated to a balance act, where parameters are weight and arranged to п¬Ѓt the context of a project. In traditional architectural design, the use of measurable parameters often postponed or take place in a later phase of the design process. The concept design is rather focused on aesthetics, plan functionality and experience of spaces, however, this approach limits the success of an integrated solution. Today, there is an almost understood association with computational tools along with the measurable parameters and thresholds. The massive power of computation makes it superlative for repeating calculations, it could be useful in optimization algorithms for instance, and the target parameters for the optimization have to be simple enough to be expressed in a computer algorithm. In the application of structural engineering, these quantiп¬Ѓable and measurable parameters could be mass, force, moment, deflection or even cost. All you do is write a quick text and press send, but the problem is when teens disconnect from their social media it is harder for them to be social face to face. Adults on the other hand use their cell phones a bit differently than teens. Studies have been made to compare how different age group use their precious cell phones that may or may not have changed their lives. Cell phones are very helpful because they make it much easier to get in touch with people and talk to them and without having to be with them at the time. But studies have shown that different age groups use their phones a bit differently. For example, a study done by the writer of Cell Phones are Changing Social Interaction, Deborah Forgays, and Jessie Schreiber compares how different age groups use their cellphones. In this study they found that the younger the person is the more text messages they send and receive in a day. In the over 50 group, more than 80 percent send and receive fewer than 10 texts each day Teens text and use social media much more and rely on it to contact friends. The study also showed that in 90% of all age groups made less than ten calls a day, so the only difference in age group is how muchthey receive and send text messages. But in the end, we all use our phones for the same reasons. I think we can all agree that cell phones have made our lives easier, but for some teens face to face interaction has become harder for them. Texting is such an easy way to talk to someone that it makes having a regular conversation seem harder. This can lead to bad communication skills that you need to do important things such as applying for interviews we won t know how to have proper communication , which can result in not getting the job. teens are also known to get distracted by their phones while studying and as a student myself I know how quickly you get get distracted on your phone while doing work. Yet the team acknowledged that the new ideas didn t click until the teardown, when the evidence was spread out on the table for discussion. • 45. Barefoot Running Essay Footwear, accepted and denied Running for sport and recreation are perhaps as unique as the enthusiasts who first roused the market. Today, that market (running shoes) is changing. While the 21st century has propelled us into an age of hyper engineered performance gear and space age wicking fabrics; barefoot running has reinvented the marketplace, while simultaneously inspiring the new generation (Sprinkle 2004). The idea that running barefoot can be beneficial is a relatively liberal idea in a comparatively conservative culture (today s running community, particularly with respect to shoes). And, while the majority of research on the evolution of human locomotion has focused primarily on walking, the demand for a new perspective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Still, provided that running is generally considered to have played no major role in human evolution it s likely that the shoe industry (in combination with barefoot advocates) will, for some time, continue to influence popular opinion more than concrete, reliable research (Nature 2004). In an August 2004 issue of Runner s World magazine, Amby Burfoot quoted England s Bruce Tulloh: The only reason that more people don t run barefoot is that they re afraid to be unconventional. Burfoot adds, Famous runners had gone barefoot before us, of course. In 1960 Ethiopia s Abebe Bikila, won the first of his consecutive gold medals sans shoes in a world record 2:15:17. Though Burfoot and Tulloh s points are relevant, there is a heavy bias that remains, attached to their competitive running accolades. Amby Burfoot was himself a competitive U.S. Marathoner, whose peak years came in the late 60 s and early 70 s when he won the Boston Marathon (1957) and competed twice in the Olympic Marathon (1956, 1960). Likewise, when Bruce Tulloh and Abebe Bikila were breaking European records in the 50 s and 60 s; a greater number of runners were gunning for far lesser 5k and Marathon personal bests. Burfoot and other more renowned high caliber, well conditioned athletes are themselves exceptions to fundamental rules that govern mere mortals; And while competitive athletes do play a ... Odds ratio should fall in between the confidence interval, in the study s case it shows there is no statistical significance in when comparing the odds ratio to the confidence intervals due to all odds radio falling in between the confidence intervals. The Pearson test is where the researcher is able to determine if there is an association between two variables of interval or ratio measurement (Plichta Kelvin, 2013). When examining the value calculated by the Pearson test it is suggested that a value +/ 0.10 is weak, value of 0.30 is moderate or typical, and +/ 0.50 is considered substantial (Plichta Kelvin, 2013). Furthermore, we can suggest that if r equals 1 there is a negative relationship, or if r equals 0 there is no relationships, and lastly if r equals +1 it indicates a positive relationship. In reviewing the relationship between variables, we can conclude that is there is no relationship between fatalism and religiosity due to r=0.11 and fatalism and spirituality due to r = 0.106. Furthermore, the p value was set at 0.05 for each of these variables. The p value for fatalism and religiosity was 0.19 and for fatalism and spiritualty was 0.23, subsequently since both these values are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. The Issue Over The Existence Of Free Will Essay Background The up and coming fields of neuroscience and neuropsychology have the potential to break a seemingly everlasting stalemate on the debate over the existence of free will. Breaking away from a purely theoretical approach to discussing a philosophical question could shed some light into our greatest existential dilemmas. German philosopher Martin Heidegger himself said, we ourselves are entities to be analyzed, and that seems ever so fitting for the investigation into consciousness. Although we have first person access to our conscious brain, the advancement of technology has allowed previously inaccessible understanding of what goes on inside our heads. But much of our brain and spinal cord, the scientifically agreed upon location of the self, is barely understood. But as we apply reason and testing to our theories, we can learn more about the brain from a scientific and philosophic viewpoint. We can finally marry the two fields through an agreement of reason and questioning, agreeing with Rudolf Carnap that Logic is the last scientific ingredient of philosophy. Introduction of Topic and Definition of Terms We often act without conscious action. Reflexes like a knee jerk, or pulling away from a hot stove, happen automatically. Even our conscious decisions happen as a result of environmental and evolutionary factors that shape who we are. This, however, doesn t negate the existence of a self. • 51. Social Media and Sexual Objectification of Women Today, we live in a world where women are sexually objectified almost everywhere we look. Halloween used to be fun and all about candy and cute costumes when we were children, but as time goes on, adult women can feel pressured to dress up as something sexy, like a sexy bunny, a sexy doctor, or a sexy tree somehow. In the marketing world, we now see women portrayed as body parts, only having their legs shown in ads to sell the latest designer shoe or their inexplicably wet lips on a billboard to promote an upper lip wax. Even in television and in movies, women are depicted as being very sexual by their actions, dialogue, and barely there clothing. Because of an increase in social media, videos from YouTube are being rapidly shared between friends and amongst those videos are their favorite music videos from a popular artist. Music videos have become more and more sexually explicit and include the sexual objectification of women like the rest of our media, no matter what the genre of music is. One has to wonder whether or not this kind of exposure has an effect on men and their sexual beliefs. First, lets explore what is shown in music videos today and how women and men are presented. Music videos now show that women just don t ever say no to sex and don t have a preference in men. They will take whoever, whenever. On the off chance they do resist, they give in rather easily, adding to our rape culture and the belief that no really means yes . Women are also portrayed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
