2. Participant Observation in Anthropology
Participant observation is a method of collecting information and data about a culture and is carried
out by the researcher immersing themselves in the culture they observing. The researcher becomes
known in the community, getting to know and understand the culture in a more intimate and
detailed way than would be possible from any other approach. This is done by observing and
participating in the community s daily activities. The method is so effective because the researcher
is able to directly approach the people in the community in a natural context as opposed to taking
the participant out of their environment. The aim of participant observationis to gain an
understanding the subject s life from their perspective, with the purpose of... Show more content on

Schensul, Schensul and LeCompte (1999) offer many reasons for using the participant observation
method in research. These reasons include allowing the researcher to create relationships with
informants and with the community, assisting the researcher in getting a feel for how different
aspects of the community are organised and how they are valued, as well as how those in the
community depend on each other. Observation and immersion in the culture also allows the
anthropologist to become known to the members of the community, and easing facilitation of the
research process.
DeWalt and DeWalt (2002) argue that the goal of the participant observation method is to develop a
holistic understanding of the phenomena under study that is as objective and accurate as possible
(DeWalt and DeWalt 2002 p.92). They also believe that the validity of the anthropologists study can
be increased by participant observation, as the direct and inclusive nature of the method helps the
researcher to gain a more in depth understanding of the situation and the people being studied.
When interviews, analyses, questionnaires and other quantitative methods are used in conjunction
with observation, the validity of the study increases as more intimate and accurate information can
be obtained, and hypotheses can be tested. The results from participant observation can be

3. Simeon Fat
This historical research brought Simeon to the analysis and studying of fat in the human body and
the various forms it takes on. Simeons establish that the body has three types of fat. The first is
structural fat which fills in gaps between organs, and as Simeons puts it, acts as a packing material.
It helps protect our arteries, provides bedding for the kidneys and keeps the skin smooth and taut.
Structural fatalso provides the springy cushion underneath the bones in our feet. The second is
normal fat which is our normal reserves of fuel that can be drawn on by the body for energy. Fat
packs a high amount of calories in a small amount of space and is used for muscular activity and the
overall maintenance of the body including its temperature.

4. Definition Essay About Success
Success
Success to most is the highest point of your life in which you can t keep advancing. To me
however, success is an accomplishment in ones love life, economic stability to support yourself
and your loved ones to live an extremely comfortable living, knowledge, and a healthy lifestyle.
Success is surprisingly somewhat similar to motivation, both start from one small idea, or dream
which we want to become reality like. Walking into school freshman year with the drive to
graduate, then leaving the stage your senior year with a high school diploma in your hand.
However motivation and success also have their differences as well, where motivation gives you a
drive to do something. Success is the result of the actions you take throughout your ... Show more

A person who is really dedicated or hard working will rarely ever fail. That s why most
successful people are not seen around that much because of the place in which they place

The highest elevation on this course is approximately 12,500 feet while the elevation gain is
around 2950 feet. From Crater Lake, you are going to descend slightly and then follow the trail
as it cuts across the western shoreline of the lake. The Maroon Bells will present you with
wonderful views as you hike along the trail. At the end of the lake vista, a valley opens up. The
western side of the valley is filled with cascading waterfalls, which make this trail even more
appealing. From the valley, the trail is the going to follow a gentle grade, as it passes through
the meadows, trees, and willow thickets. The trail then takes you to a steep rockslide climb, and
then spills over to the eastern side of the Maroon Peak. Once you reach the top of the slide, turn
around, and enjoy some spectacular views of the valley beneath. After the rockslide, the trail
passes through a narrow corridor between the talus fields and the creek, passing through conifer
stands and willow thickets. As the corridor gets narrower, the trail passes through several talus
fields. You will then be forced to cross to the eastern side of the creek, as it constricts further. When
hiking early in the season, you will have to wade through the creek, although the water levels are

terrorism. Four planes were hijacked by terrorist. Nearly, three thousand lives were lost when two

Act.
The Patriot Act was signed into law on October 26, 2001 by President George W. Bush. The act
expanded the surveillance capability of both domestic law enforcement and international
intelligence agencies. When this law was passed it was under the assumption to deter and punish
terrorist acts in the United States and around the world, to enhance law enforcement investigatory
tools, and for other purposes (The USA Patriot). The Patriot Act has given the government the
power to spy on the average American through monitoring phone records and calls, gaining banking

A 401(k) plan, so named for the section of the Internal Revenue Code describing the
requirements, is a savings plan in which employees are allowed to defer income up to a $12,000
maximum (which increases by $1,000 a year from 2003 to 2006, with amounts indexed for
inflation thereafter) (Milkovich and Newman, 2008). Employers typically match employee
savings at a rate of 50 cents on the dollar. Defined contribution plans are more popular than
defined benefit plans in both small and large companies (Milkovich and Newman, 2008).
Historically these plans are faster to vest (the companies matched share of the contribution
permanently shifts over to employee ownership, and they are more portable job hopping
employees can take their pension accruals along to the next job) (Milkovich and Newman,
2008). The second type of plan is an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) (Milkovich and
Newman, 2008). In a basic ESOP a company makes a tax deductible contribution of stock shares
or cash to a trust (Milkovich and Newman, 2008). The trust then allocates company stock (or stock
bought with cash contributions) to participating employee accounts (Milkovich and Newman,
2008). The amount allocated is based on employee earnings (Milkovich and Newman, 2008).
When an ESOP is used as a pension vehicle (as opposed to an incentive program), the employees
receive cash at retirement based upon the stock value at that time (Milkovich and

Topic: Compare and contrast the concepts of determinism, compatibilism, and libertarianism, as
outlined in Chapter 4. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each of these positions? Which
one do you believe is the most likely to be correct? Why?
In the Philosophy, Determinism has many different categories. Actually according to the textbook,
the Determinism is the view that every event, including human actions, are brought about by
previous events in accordance with the natural laws that govern the world. Human freedom is an
illusion. Jewish philosopher Baruch Spinoza does not deny that people s wishes and desires will

Human factors are involved wildly in human behaviors and various social systems, including
social laws and religion doctrines. Just like what I mentioned previously, scientists believe that the
human life is pre determined and human s behavior is inevitable. They consider that if someone
has all the information of one person, he or she may get to know how he or she is going to
change in advance. But from the point of view throughout the history of human society people
often turn to emphasize personal responsibility. Law and legal penalties for criminals act based
entirely on the idea of individual free will . Most Jewish and Christian also believed that individuals
should be responsible for the crime and suspects should be punished. We can imagine a psychology
professor who believes determinism would say to a student: You have to concentrate to your study,
otherwise you will get nothing! You can see the contradiction of human behaviors from this typical
and ironic statement above, and notice that there exists a deviation between theoretical knowledge
and actual human behaviors.
At the same time, the Libertarians believe that people have free will , and there are no such
inevitable results of those behaviors that are controlled by free will . Libertarianism has different
meanings in different academic fields. From the general level, the libertarianism refers to people s
ability to decide whether or not to do something according to their

13. Charles Darwin s Natural Selection Theory
Darwin did not publish his theory of evolution by natural selection until 1859. He was not the first,
however, to develop a theory of evolution. As scientists developed an increasing interest in the
natural world, it became evident to many influential thinkers of the late eighteenth century, such as
the Comte de Buffon and Jean Baptiste Lamarckthat species changed gradually over time. While
these prior scientists had ideas on evolution, their theories were often misguided and failed to
threaten the status quo of society to any significant degree. Darwin s theory of evolution by natural
selection, however, created a greater controversy. Not only did Darwin provide a functioning
method of change backed up by copious amounts of scientific support,... Show more content on

What set Darwin apart from his predecessors, however, was his theory of natural selection.
Natural selection is differential survival and reproduction. Those individuals that are best suited
for their environment will have the best chance of being preserved in the struggle for life and
will survive to produce offspring similarly characterised. Not only was his theory inspired by
observations made while he was on the HMS Beagle, Darwin was heavily influenced by Thomas
Malthus and his An Essay on the Principle of Population. Malthus states that population, when
unchecked, increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio.
Since resources are limited, a struggle for existence would inevitably ensue as individuals
competed over available resources. There must be a strong and constantly operating check on
population from the difficulty of subsistence. In a struggle for survival, those individuals most fit
for their environment would outcompete those less fit. Malthus essay became essential for
Darwin s understanding of natural selection. Furthermore, variation in individuals, Darwin
determined, was largely due to random chance. Darwin did not believe, like Lamarck, that
evolutionary change had an end goal in mind. Evolution did not always select for the most
complex organism. This idea threatened the Christian world. If variation was random and there
was no force directing evolution towards a specific goal, there was no room for God. Natural
selection was seen as a threat to religion. There was limited room for divine intervention in Darwin
s theory. Darwin himself, starting out as a firm believer in the supernatural, grew to be an atheist
by his death. However, despite protests by theologians, there was a significant amount of empirical
evidence backing up natural selection. For more than 10 years, Darwin

15. Essay On Starve Or Kill A Lifeboat
To Starve or Kill in a Lifeboat Webster s dictionary defines utilitarianism as a doctrine that the
useful is the good and that the determining consideration of right conduct should be the
usefulness of its consequences (Merriam Webster). This doctrine is used in cases when trying
to decide whether an issue is morally acceptable or not. In the case of the sailors stranded in a
lifeboat at sea, the question raised is whether or not the men were morally corrupt by killing the
cabin boy. There are two basic approaches used to determine the outcome of this case. The first
has to do with deciding if the benefits of killing a person outweigh the costs (Sandel 32). The
second approach says that consequences are not the only factor to consider because some moral
duties and rights are more important (Sandel 33). Suppose you were the judge, assume that you
were asked to decide whether killing the cabin boy was morally permissible, how would you
rule (Sandel 32)? Four English sailors became stranded at sea and were stuck in a lifeboat for 24
days. The youngest of the four, named Parker, was only seventeen. He was an orphan who had
become a cabin boy. He became ill when he drank seawater and began to show signs of death
(Sandel 31). On the twentieth day one of the men decided that the cabin boy had to be killed.
They ate his body and blood until a rescue boat arrived days later. The men were arrested and

and divided it by the volume of the solution which was 8.35mL and got 0.074 as the original
concentration. To the get molarity of the salt solution we had to divide the concentration by the
mass of the sodium chloride and then multiply by 1000mL to get 1.3M of salt solution. Final
thing we had to do was determine the number ions present in 8.35mL so we took 1.3 moles of

18. Satire In The Entertainment Industry
Why is it that people are so attracted to all forms of entertainment? Is there a greater purpose
behind all those hours spent glued to screens? In the media, satirical entertainment has emerged as
a force revealing truths. Merriam Webster defines satire as a literary work holding up human
vices and follies to ridicule or scorn . The role of satirein the entertainmentindustry is to expose the
weaknesses and corruption in society. Entertainment does not have the capacity to ruin society;
entertainment simply reflects society because it engages and appeals to the common experiences of
the audience. Throughout civilization, entertainment is used to reveal the true nature of
individuals. It can only be assumed that those who object to satirical forms of entertainment must
have faults that they fear will be brought to light. Prominent figures in the nineteenth and twentieth
century despised satire. Rulers during those times were cautious of entertainment dissolving the ties
of our social order through citizens recognizing the corruption around them and rebelling. A form of
entertainment that has been around for centuries is the political cartoon. Political cartoons utilize

21. Causes And Effects Of Video Games
1 LastName Name Course Professor 5 December 2017 Video Game Addiction and Its Harmful
Effects Playing video games is a pastime that many children enjoy. It has been found that
National surveys of American youth ages 8 to 18 by the Kaiser Family Foundation ... found that
in 2005, 49% of children had a game console in their bedroom (Olson et al. 55). From this
information, it can be assumed that after school about half of the children come home and start
playing video games. The duration of time that children play these video games varies. In recent
times it is estimated that, ...adolescent girls played video games for an average of 5 h a week
whereas boys averaged 13 h a week. (Gentile et al. 5). Gaming, therefore, has become more than
just a fun activity, it has become an addiction. Addiction can be defined as ... with an
uncontrollable urge, often accompanied by a loss of control, a preoccupation with use, and a
desire to continue with the activity even though it creates problems (Skoric et al. 568). These
children feel the need to play video games, and it is taking over their lives. This addiction to video
games impacts many aspects of a child s life. As a result of this addiction, video games cause
difficulties at school, detrimental impact to relationships and teenage development. There has been
a link between poor school performance and difficulties at school with high usage of video games.

22. Pros And Cons Of Sina Weibo
INTRODUCTION
Sina Weibo (hereinafter referred as Weibo) is a microblog in China that is akin to a hybrid of
Twitter and Facebook . It is one of the most popular social media platform is China which has
600 million registered users in 2013 and 76.6 million daily users in 2014 . The vast number of
users allows faster and easier communication and information spreading, which then creates social
benefits which traditional media did not offer (Chang, 2013). Weibo has formed a lively virtual
public space (Magistad, 2012) where Chinese citizens communicate and which is a main source of
immediate news.

They use Weibo to post their social concerns and comment about government policies. Consistent
friction exists between the government and the citizens over sensitive topics. The government
aggressively steps in only when it considers the issue to be potential for social instability. In
addition, the Chinese are more conservative in terms of going against the government as they do
not want to risk themselves. Therefore, Weibo is used as a platform for Chinese citizens to give
pressure on the government in hope for better and more transparent governance. Physical social
movements are less likely to happen because of government censorship and the individual s less
willing to take risk attitude. However, the government should not take this for granted. Consistent
suppressing of public voices may harm the government as public anger may eventually burst into
uncontrollable outrage. Thus, the government has to cooperate with the Chinese citizens through

Military Service: Should It Be Mandatory? Fighting for the homeland means fighting for freedom,
but how can men defend their country against enemies if they lack of the ability to fight?
Conscription is strategy that utilized by nations to assemble a large and powerful military,
prepared to be deployed in times of war or when the need to ensure the power of the state emerges.
Mostly, conscriptionis for male and in some cases and some countries have also for women, and
usually begins as soon as the end of the study; at the age, 18 years old. It consists of basic training
and serve for two to three years maximum. Countries depend on their soldiers to protect and defend

Most people maintain that serving the community should be voluntary, and each individual has the
absolute freedom to join or not to join the military service. However, it is argued that military
service builds individual personality and improves his skills in combat and defense, so there is no
rational reason not to make conscription mandatory. A person s character changed for the better
during his service in the military. To begin with, mandatory service teaches the person self
discipline. Michael Anthony, an author who served in US army, writes in his article, What the
Military Teaches About Self Discipline, that discipline must be ground into conscript. He needs to
gain physical strength, perseverance, knowledge, and courage, n.d. When an individual joins the
military service, he forces to do more than he thinks he can; he learns to obey commands and
commits to important values, such as learning how to be punctual in time. Daily workouts, meals,

24. South Asia And Australia Essay
Every country in our world today shares some sort of relationship with another country. Whether it s
peaceful, aggressive, wanted or unwanted, each place shares a link with another. Australia has
countless connections across the world, but one continent we have a major connection with is Asia,
more specifically South Asia. The AsiaAustralia relationship can be separated into cultural and
political links. These cultural links include customs and traditions, religion, literature and art and
food and language. The political connections are history, politics and economy and trade.
CULTRUAL
Australia is one of the most multicultural countries on Earth, meaning people from many different
countries reside there. This can also make it difficult to find what a broad term for Australian
culture is, due to its many influences. But the aboriginal part to Australia s history does have a
specific culture we can identify. On the other hand South Asia s culture can be clearly defined.
South Asia has influenced Australia, and vice versa. They also share similarities and differences
throughout each other s customs, religions, art and food and language.
CUSTOMS
Within South Asia, most of them share similar social behaviours to one another. One of these
customs include wearing modest clothing and covering their heads with scarves. Clothes are
typically draped and colourful. Most people in the younger generation, now dress in more western
clothes (such as jeans and t shirts), but for special

25. The World Of The Aztec Empire
How was Cortes with 508 soldiers able to conquer the Aztec Empire with millions of peoples
inside its borders? Cortes was able to conquer the Aztec people for several different reasons. The
Aztecs had a very harsh tribute system that was not popular among the other peoples of Mexico.
This ferocious tribute system allowed Cortes to act as a liberator of some sort. Additionally, with
the Spanish came several diseases the Aztecpeoples had never encountered. The spread of diseases
such as small pox and many others drastically reduced the Aztec population and sped up Cortes
cause. Malintzin, a tribal girl given as a gift to Cortes, was helpful in translating local dialects and
communicating amongst Amerindians. Also an important aspect of... Show more content on

As the majority of those who were sacrificed were war captives who opposed the Aztecs, they
obviously greatly feared the brutal tribute system. However not only war captives were sacrifices,
common adults and children were also sacrificed at times. Cortes himself was disgusted at the
thought of human sacrifice, this allowed him to gain Indian allies as well as gain respect among
Mexican tribes that feared and opposed the Aztecs. The majority of the population feared the
process therefore making Cortes, whom despised the process, an appealing alternative. Many
followed Cortes as they shared the same views on the human sacrifice topic. Because Cortes posed
to eliminate the Aztecs it allowed him to appear as a liberator of the tyranny of the Aztec rule.
Secondly, a relatively minor cause for Cortes success was the issue of disease among the Aztecs.
Although this was a fairly feeble reason it actually greatly benefited the Spanish in reducing the
Aztec population. The Spanish brought smallpox to Mexico, said to be linked to an infected slave
arriving from Spanish Cuba, which caused great suffering to the Aztecs. The Spanish were
immune to the disease so it posed no threat to Cortes own men. The Aztecs were demoralized by
the mysterious illness that killed Indians and spared Spaniards, as if advertising the Spaniards
invincibility. One negative aspect for Cortes however was that his Indian allies suffered from the

27. Armstrong Vs Descartes Essay
Armstrong makes it clear in his paper, that the mind can best be explained by modern science. He
states, at present the drift of scientific thought is clearly set towards the physico chemical
hypothesis. And we have nothing better to go on than the present (Armstrong 280). This states that
he strongly believes that the mindis unified as a functional system and the facts of science can best
show what the mind really is. He then goes on to inform us, it is only as a result of scientific
investigation that we ever seem to reach an intellectual consensus about controversial matters
(Armstrong 280). He holds the idea that only through science and solid theory, will the people all
be able to come to an agreement on something that can be disputed... Show more content on

One major difference between their thoughts on the mind would be that Descartes believes that
the mind is a non physical cause while Armstrong believes that it is a physical cause. This
difference may seem small when you compare it to the two philosophers similarities, but it can
cause much debate. Descartes states in his writing of Meditation I, I will obstinately concentrate
on this meditation and will thus ensure by mental resolution that, if I do not really have the
ability to know the truth, I will at least withhold assent from what is false and from what a
deceiver may try to put over on me (Descartes 159). Descartes cannot be certain that we are not
dreaming nor all victims of an all powerful deceiver. These two philosophers do not agree on
whether or not the mind is a physical cause, but they do both that other minds are knowable in
an indirect manner. I understand the argument of both philosophers, but I agree more with the
understanding that our mind is a physical cause. I am more of a scientific and facts person so the
idea that we are being deceived by someone and we do not realize it really does not make sense
to me. We do understand the fact that we do not know everything and I firmly believe that we
never will. Theory is called theory for a reason and not fact because it has not been proven. We
can study and learn new things all we want, but we have to understand that as we learn new things,
we will only uncover more

28. Feminist Analysis Of Medea
Classical Greek society placed great emphasis on it citizens fulfilling their social and moral
obligations on the principle of sophrosyne, that is finding the balance between their reason and
passions. Controversially, the eponymous protagonist in Euripides tragedy, Medea, challenges all
beliefs of balance seeking instead to exact her retribution on Jason. In the process, Euripides
explores the characters rationalisations and motives behind their decisions and its repercussions.
Jason leaves Medea for fortune and prestige ultimately being the catalyst behind Medea s
determination to seek vengeance. In doing so, Jason describes her as a lioness not a woman,

After Medea is betrayed, she epitomises perfectly the proverbial woman scorned determined to
ensure a bloodbath as she sinks into abysmal hopelessness and despair. At each stage of her
scheme, Medea exercises careful judgement, knowing exactly what to say at the right time to the
right person. She is able to manipulate Creon, Aegus and ultimately Jason to formulate
circumstances and opportunities to seek retribution and to reciprocate the injustices that befall her.
Medea s meticulously cunning revenge, cursing her children of a bewitched mother is judiciously
complemented by a pathological lack of remorse for her husband and children. Although the
ancient and modern audience may agree in Jason deserving punishment to some extent, it is
Medea s act of infanticide is where the line is drawn. However, in leaving Medea unpunished,
Euripides disposes the traditional theatrical rational resolution for the villain but instead invokes a
masterstroke of divine intervention using the device deus ex machina allowing her to have good
fortune and help from Helios and divine protection on her side. This not only leaves the ancient
and modern audience querying at society s obsession with morality in the face of such an abjectly
irrational denouement but simultaneously forces the audience to question their own sense
perception and justice. Medea s actions are Dionysian guided. Her emotions are liberated,
shattering all sense of society s moral boundaries that confines her. The dichotomy between a
lioness and a woman aims to highlight Medea as a powerful and regal creature. As a lioness, she is
able to truly be a mistress of the systematic dysfunctional Greek society that subjugates its

Anytime I m preparing a meal I check my kitchen to make sure I have everything I need. To
make beef enchiladas I will need, beef, enchilada sauce, corn tortillas, shredded cheese, cubed
cheese, green chile, 2 cans of mexican style tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, jalapenos, not to
mention rice and beans for our sides. First, I chop up the onions, bell peppers and jalapenos.
When that is finished I take out the skillet and turn the heat on high. Put all the chopped vegetables
in the skillet, add beef, and let it cook until the beef has browned. Once the meat is done, I pour a
can of mexican style tomatoes and green chile in, turn down the heat and let simmer.
Next, I take out three pots for the enchilada sauce, charro beans, and mexican rice. In one of the
pots I m going to pour in the rice in, add butter, set the heat and stir until all the butter is almost
melted then add 2 cups of water and let boil for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. In the other pot I
can put the charro beans in and let cook on low heat. While those are cooking I m going to heat up
the enchilada sauce in the small pot to start dipping the corn tortillas in. After that I roll them up
with beef and 2 1/2 cubes of cheese in each tortilla then place them in a cassarole dish. I can fit

smother it all on top of the tortillas. Then I put the dish in the oven on 350 for about 15 to 20

36. How Democracy Is The Only System Of Governance
During my investigation for the CIA I visited several autocracies, some successful, some not. I also
visited several democracies some struggling and some unrivaled in their success. Although there are
cons of each system of government I have come to the conclusion that democracy is the only
system of governance that would fit best with the United States of America and set it up for success
in the future. Democracyis defined as a governmentby the people; a form of government in which
the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected
agents under a free electoral system. 1 The United States of America is meant to be ruled by
many instead of a select few. A broad participation in government now more than ever is key in
order to get through these tough times and come out a stronger more resilient country. A
democracy will not be as easy or as clean cut as a autocracybut it will be the right thing to do for
the country s success in the long run, socially, economically and to stay the strong world power
that we are. In democracy the right decisions may not be made all the time. But there tends to be
a happy medium that makes sure everyone gets a little bit of what they wanted in a democracy.
Instead of one person or a small group of people controlling the country a democracy is a
collaboration of many different groups and ideas. As a specialist in my field I feel like these
qualities that democracy gives to the government is key to

Violent Video Games and Their Effect on Children Ever since the creation of the first video game,
they have had a certain effect on the individuals who play them. As video games have become
more advanced and elaborate, children s interest is at an all time high. With the degree of violence
that has been a part of video games since the early 1990 s, parents and activists have claimed that
these games are affecting children negatively. This claim only seems to contradict other major
factors that may have a part in the developing minds of youth. There are other mental, problems at
home or school, as well as programs and movies shown by the media that could have an effect on
children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Violent video games can be used as an outlet for some of this aggression. A discussion in class
regarding violent video games brought up a view that some of the class, myself included, use
violent video games to relieve stress and frustration. Some still believe that violent games should
be banned because of youth violence. Sharon Jayson, a writer for USA Today, quotes from
Christopher Ferguson, an associate professor at Texas A M International University in Laredo,
that delinquent peer influences, antisocial personality traits, depression, and parents/guardians
who use psychological abuse are risk factors for youth violence and aggression (Ferguson qtd in
Jayson). It is also stated that some of the factors stated earlier by Williams were not predictive of
youth violence and aggression (Ferguson qtd in Jayson). There is no single factor that can be
attributed to aggressive behavior in children. I still contend that these factors can have their effect
on children if they don t have someone to help them to understand what s going on and how to
resolve their issues. Those who believe that video games cause youth violence have plans of their
own or don t have a clear understanding of what s in the games. For example, the Grand Theft Auto

42. Fruit Fly Experiment Essay
The experiment was performed on February 2nd 2016 at the University of Calgary in a Biological
Science laboratory. The experimental procedure was done in a group of four students.
To investigate optimal foraging behaviour, two treatments were carried out on a sample of
Drosophilia melanogaster (fruit flies), who were previously starved for 24 hours. In treatment 1, 5
mL of 400 mM sucrose solution (SS) was dyed with 4 droplets of red food colouring. 5 mL of 40
mM SS was dyed with 3 droplets of blue food coloring. Using a Pasteur pipette, 16 drops were
placed, four by four, on a Petri dish, alternating the red 400 nM and blue 40 mM solutions. The
drops were spaced 5 mm apart so the flies could move around them. Approximately 10 15 flies were
added from a vial, into the Petri dish. The number of live flies were counted, and left for one hour
to forage. After one hour, the dish was placed in a freezer for 10 minutes to kill the flies. The flies
were examined under a microscope to determine abdominal colour (red, blue, purple, or colourless).
Treatment 2 followed the same procedure. However, 5 mL of 400 mM SS was dyed with 3
droplets of blue food colouring, and 5 mL of 40 mM SS was dyed with 5 droplets of red food
colouring. The two treatments controlled for fly colour preference. A Chi squared... Show more

If the abundance and distribution of different quality food patches are equal, the predator will
forage in the most profitable patch in order to optimize foraging. The flies appear to be foraging
optimally in treatment 2 of Mini Experiment 1. The goodness of fit test yielded significant results
from an expected 50:50 ratio of red to blue abdomens, indicating that the flies have preference for
the most profitable 400 mM SS, as opposed to feeding on any patch they encounter. In treatment 1,
the statistical results yielded insignificant results, which conflicts with treatment 2, however this
may be due to small sample size, or not enough time for flies to

43. Romanian Culture Interview Essay
Though I was born in Detroit and am a first generation American, I have always identified more
with my Romanian heritage. My parents escaped from communist Romania and found a
community of other Romanians also seeking solace here in Michigan. We connected with each
other through churches spread throughout southeast Michigan. And so, I would be able to spend
time with my extended familyand a multitude of other Romanians at least once every week. There
is a saying here: It takes a village to raise a child, and that could not be more true of the Romanian
family that raised me. They had imbued me with the harsh life lessons learned from living
underneath a dictatorship and the struggle of starting life from scratch after escaping from said
dictatorship.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Romanian culture, it is incredibly important to respect your elders as well as each other. I
deduced that the purpose behind this cultural phenomenon was to learn from others. By
respecting my Romanian elders, I opened up the avenue to understand and apply their wisdom.
For example, I owe them my strong work ethic. Due to the fact that many Romanians lost
everything when they came overseas, I was raised to never take anything for granted. This
included my own intelligence. As an example, during my academic studies I made sure that I
was not over confident of my abilities and prepared to do extra work in order to insure my
success. In fact, I came up with a saying to motivate myself: Work hard enough so that it s
impossible to fail. Each time I struggled in a class, certain that I would receive my first B, I
would apply this work ethic in order to deal with the stress. Thus, I feel that I would be of great
use to the medical community as I am no stranger to arduous work. My teammates in this endeavor
would no doubt welcome my drive to push beyond what is necessary in order to complete a

44. Essay on The Heart of Tragedy Based on Oedipus Rex
During the Ancient Greek period, Aristotle, a great philosopher, wrote a book called the Poetics
to describe what makes a great tragic play. Using the Oedipus Rex by Sophocles as the basis for
his book, Aristotle goes into great detail about plot, character, and much more, breaking up the
components of a tragedy. Since Oedipus Rex had a huge part in the creation of Aristotle s book, it
fulfills many of the Greek philosopher s requirements for a tragic play.
According to Aristotle, plot is one of the most important components of a tragedy. It must have a
clear beginning, middle, and a cascade of events leading to the ending. The incentive moment in
Oedipus Rex is when Creon comes back from visiting the oracle at Delphi with news on how to ...

At the end of the novel he is left a blind man with only his daughter.
Spectacle is the act of avoiding violence and having ferocious events take place offstage to stop
the evocation of the emotions pity and fear. These feelings are evoked in Oedipus Rex because if
bad things happened to a good man, then they can happen to anyone. However, pity and fear are
kept at bay when the messenger relays Jocasta s suicide and Oedipus s act of self harm because
they didn t witness the events that took place offstage.
Dues ex Machina is the idea that an unexpected power, such as the gods, will come and fix the
situation. Aristotle dismisses this idea, believing that it is better to have a realistic and practical
plot or else it will take away the story. Two good places to have divine intervention in Oedipus
Rex would have been either before Oedipus left his adoptive parents or before he had
unknowingly killed his father. A god or a higher being could have informed him of his origins and
the curse, and he could have prevented the murder of his father and marriage to his mother. Instead,
without the use of dues ex machina, Oedipus fulfilled the prophecy which resulted in his downfall.
Oedipus Rex by Sophocles embodies all of what Aristotle described to be a proper tragedy in his
book Poetics. The plot is a clear and concise beginning, middle, and end that starts with a cause that
results in many effects, one of which

45. Limitations Of Regulation Of Private Insurance Systems
Limitations to Regulation Advocates of private insurance systems argue that flaws in the
system can be remedied with regulation of the market or through government subsides to help
the poor afford the insurance (NEED SOURCE). Even with the attempt at regulation of the
private finance system in the US (the ACA and existing Medicaid program), patients still have
limited coverage and accessibility (White, 2013; Garfield and Damico, 2015; Smith and
Medalia; 2015). Regulation through expanding Medicaid has fallen short due to state autonomy
upheld by the Supreme Court ruling; as of September 2015, 20 states refused to adopt the ACA
expansion of their Medicaid programs (Garfield and Damico, 2015). Since ACA envisioned that
the expansion of Medicaid would cover an increasing number of families and childless adults at
a certain percentage of the poverty line, it does not provide financial assistance to people below
poverty for other coverage options (ibid.). The result is a coverage gap where many adults do
not qualify for Medicaid but are below the lower limit for marketplace premium tax credits (ibid.).
Currently, it is estimated that more than 3 million adults fall into this gap indicating that patching
a system of inequity and limited access still results a larger in problems for lower income people
to gain access to healthcare (ibid.). Though the ACA is still the early stages, it appears that even a
radical change in private healthcare financing in the US is not enough to

program is recognizing and celebrating employees accomplishments and /or milestones. This type
of environment makes the workplace more like a family atmosphere rather than a work atmosphere.
The Boston Consulting Group rank number three on the list. This company has 12,000 employees.
One of the first thing I noticed this company says that opportunity for growth is unmatched. A
successful business will motivate their employees to grow and develop new skills. Their employee
ratings are also equal to Google and Wegmans. This company focuses on growth and learning.
Happy employees feel a sense of accomplishment in their work. They like themselves and what
they do, and they also find satisfaction from their work. When workers feel that they are a
dynamic and essential part of the team, they are more productive and willing to go the extra mile

great challenges that had a very high rating. People love to feel challenged. Feeling challenged is

The element I am researching is Iron(Fe). Iron could be used in many ways. Iron is a ductile,
gray, relatively soft metal and is a moderately good conductor of heat and electricity. 2.It is
attracted by magnets and can be readily magnetized. 3. The pure metal is chemically very reactive
and rusts readily in moist air, forming red brown oxides. Rust is ironoxide and when it is hydrated, it
rusts.
Where did iron get its name? Paragraph 2
From the Anglo Saxon word iron or Iren (the origin of the symbol Fe comes from the Latin word

Most professional companies and organizations offer mothers paid time off. Usually, this
maternity leave is six weeks. New fathers, however, don t often get this same privilege, which is
unfortunate. In order for a father to better support the mother of their child and/or personally care
for their child, a father should be allowed a paid paternityleave. Many would argue that not
mandating paternity leave is serving menand their careers far better than if the policy were to be
established. The opposing side believes that if the creation of paternity leave becomes, mandatory,
it will do more harm than good especially for the men who don t become fathers. Everyone so

Men are needed for the creation of and the It s important to give the men time to bond with their
child, especially because they often get left out of the process. When the leave becomes
mandatory it can bring men a sense of worth and usefulness, but when it s not mandatory one
could begin to feel as if they don t belong or even aren t important enough to help raise a child.
Men who get the privilege to take leave get more satisfaction from the time spent with their child
or children. But paternity leave is a privilege and not a right, so the men who don t have the
liberty to do so aren t bad fathers, but the leaves fathers take during their child s young stage
serves their long term relationship well because they become more satisfied with it and are more
likely to remain involved. Mandating paternity leave serves children well. The children get more
time spent with their fathers which have been proven to be a significant impact on a happier
child, healthier, few behavioral problems, greater self esteem, and even tend to do better at
school. The long term relationship with a father and child is somewhat depended on mandating
paternity leave. In the academic journal, Paternity Leave and Fathers Involvement with their
Young Children, it states that If fathers who take a longer leave continue to be more involved,
and if such involvement proves to be beneficial to children, then a case could potentially be made
to provide more access to paternity leave to new fathers in the US (Nepomnyaschy and ). This
shows that work needs to be done so that the idea of paternity leave can be a norm in
