Campaign Contributions Of The Federal Election Campaign Act
Campaign contributions destroy the marketplace by expelling the views of average citizens in
exchange for the views of corporate donors that don t have the opportunity to have their views
scrutinized by the public. Their views are safe from criticism because they are able to shield their
views through backdoor talks with candidates. According Samuel Issacharoff, a professor of
Constitutional Law at the New York University of Law, in reference to political corruption, the source
of corruption was large expenditures capturing the marketplace of political ideas (Issacharoff). The
spread of ideas is essential to democracy and large donations to campaigns prevents ideas from
average citizens from being considered. The corruption from large corporations needs to be regulated
to allow for our democratic elections to be free and fair for everyone involved so that all suggestions
can be heard.
Congress tried to regulate this corruption by passing the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) of
1971. This act aimed to require campaigns to report all contributions and prevent direct campaign
contributions by corporations and unions. The act imposed contribution limits by corporations to
candidates. These limits fostered an environment where PACs or political action committees were
formed. The Federal Election Commission states, corporations and unions could use treasury funds to
establish, operate and solicit voluntary contributions for the organization s separate segregated fund

Marwaris Essay
We are Marwaris, a conservative community of businessmen, originally from the Indian desert state of
Rajasthan. Historically, we have been migrating for better prospects since the early sixteenth century.
Consequently, we spread extensively over India; later even to Nepal and Bangladesh. A characteristic
that sets us apart from other migrating people is that we integrate with our host ethnic groups; adopt
local culture. The Kolkata Marwari speaks Bengali and enjoys his Mishti Doi, Marwaris in Mumbai,
speak Marathi; are inseparable from the local Marathas. Even though we amalgamate with the local
cultures, we maintain our social Marwari identities. Therefore, we celebrate Teej and Gangaur, two
festivals that define our Rajasthani identity.
Marwaris of today, value education and educate their children irrespective of their gender. Also, being
progressive we have gone beyond our traditional stronghold commerce and finance. Therefore, there

Assessment in the Ece Curriculum
Assessment in the ECE curriculum
Institution: Privately run preschool in Singapore
Fictional child: Sara
Background: Age: 3 year old girl, Nationality: Indian origin. Has a twin in the same class.
Interest: At this point in time this child is particularly interested in growing plants. We have observed
her using a learning story. This is our first time using this particular assessment tool.
Traditionally in our pre school we have used a range of assessment tools for eg: checklist, work
samples, running records which are compiled in a portfolio.
The Ministry of Education (2008), Singapore curriculum guide base their Child development and

Therefore by looking at the observation through the 3 lenses we can also look at children s movements
from the interpersonal to the intrapersonal level of development within the child s zone of proximal
development (Edwards p 14). We can also observe how a more capable peer or an adult scaffolds a
child s learning through these observation.
By documenting Sara s learning journey we can assess and analyse her development through the 3
lenses and how the people involved and the environment play a very important part in scaffolding her
learning.
Through the 3 lenses we observed:
Personal: * Aalya is motivated and interested in learning more about the plants, as she initiates this
activity when she finds the magnifying glass. * She is actively engaged in exploring and investigating
the plants in her garden. * There are multiple perspectives, in natural science through the exploration
and discussion about living plants, and how Aalya relates her age to the number of beans she is putting
in the cup (mathematics).
Interpersonal: * There is a shared understanding between Aalya and Rehan about what they need to
grow plants. This is evident during their discussion and actions whilst planting seeds. * There are adult
and child interactions (parents and nanny with both Rehan and Aalya) and child to child interactions
(Rehan and Aalya discussing planting the seeds)

Vision At The Blind And Visually Impaired
Vision is defined as the sense by which objects in the external environment are perceived by means of
the light they give off or reflect (Saunders, 2007). Vision is very a significant aspect in human life. If
an individual is visually impaired, it will cause other developmental delays in that individual including
the sensory, motor, cognitive, social and language developments (Texas School for the Blind and
Visually Impaired, n.d.). It is already well known that infants are not born with perfect vision. They
only achieve vision close to adult maturity by about six months after birth. There are a lot of aspects
of vision in infants that undergoes development such as contrast sensitivity function, acuity
perception, motion perception, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, by knowing how colour vision differs in infants and adults, if we find out that an infant
does not have colour vision that works the same way as adults, then even if the test has been adapted
for infants, it still cannot be used.
FPL chromatic discrimination paradigm is used for examining colour vision in infants. From
experiments conducted using FPL chromatic discrimination paradigm, it is proven that colour vision
of infants improve significantly between 1 and 3 months of age (Brown, 1990). In a review paper by
Brown (1990), it is stated that infants at 3 to 4 weeks of age generally have poor ability to discriminate
colours. However, when long wavelength lights are used, the result is vague. Most experiments result
in infants at 1 month of age failing to distinguish the stimulus when it comes to using long wavelength
light. Having said that, there are a few reported infants that could discriminate successfully. As for
infants over 2 months old, it is clear that half of them could make some chromatic discriminations.
At 3 months of age, based on the several studies mentioned by Brown (1990), most of the infants can
already make chromatic discriminations. Hence, it is concluded that they have colour vision to a
certain degree as they might not necessarily be trichromats nor have the colour vision of an adult.

Introduction.
Musical notes are a language that has evolved over thousands of years and the notation that we know
today, there are more than 300 years. Music notation is a representation of sound by symbols of a
simple notation for pitch, length and timing to more advanced features of expression, timbre, and even
special effects. This book will show you the basics of reading music, some more advanced methods
and how you can learn more about the subject.
This guide focuses on musical notations and symbols found on sheet music; note counts, accidentals,
time signatures, key signatures, breaks, codas, ornaments, and articulations, to mention a few. This
guide will also include pictures and simplified definitions to make it easier for you to understand.
Modern musical notation was derived from European Classical music and is still used by musicians
around the world.
In the middle of the 19th century, it was said that the monasteries in Europe began developing
notations for Gregorian chant using neumes* or the earliest musical notation. The roots of modern
musical notation symbols are originally from the Roman Catholic Church.
Neumes These were the earliest form of musical notation, used during the middle ages by Christians,
which are still being used for Gregorian chants and plainsongs (or plainchants) nowadays.
Quick Trivia ?Did you know that the earliest form of musical

Descriptive Essay About Dark Sun
Dark Sun He was my sun, my shining beam of light, my shining ray that warms me to an extent, that
doesn t seem achievable to man. His gentle, and sympathetic words, inspired me, and constructed me,
he was perfect. My world was sparkling, and colorful, it was sugar coated, and honey slathered with
compliments, inspiration, encouragement. I knew I could rely on him, He was, to me a soft teddy bear,
you could snuggle anytime you wanted, or needed. I adored him, I cared for him, more than a child
warmly loves their parents. Who am I speaking of, you might ask? Who s the knight in shining armor i
m speaking so highly of? Of course, my dear older brother. He was all I ever wanted, and needed,
more than I would deserve. I lived like a carefree princess, until, that, came to a sputtering stop. I
never thought of him the same way. It was a tranquil day, in my cozy household. I was listening to the
mellow, and soft sound of the faint cracking of my ignited fireplace. The smell of cherry like oak,
mixed with buttery, pumpkin spiced bread stuffed the air. I was snug in a wool blanket, my fingers
heated on a hearty chunk of a toasted loaf. I was blissfully plucking tiny chunks, and chewing it with
glee. Awaiting my big sibling to arrive from home, I was jumpy, and impatient. *Creak, bmph* My
ears perked up, and I quickly dived out of my comfort area. My eyes darted to glare at the door, which
was obviously being opened. A tiny crack appeared, and my ears

Companions in Artificial Intelligence Ruben Damian Corbo
University of the People
Artificial Intelligence has always been a very interesting subject to me from the time I watched any
film from the Terminator series (1984 2015) with the evil A.I. known as Skynet. Not all AI is bad as
we know from Steven Spielberg s A.I. (2001) and today Artificial Intelligence is far from fiction. I ve
always wondered how close could we get to a world where Artificial Intelligence could become a
companion, and in my research I have found that programmers and inventors are already working on a
companion to ease the sense of loneliness we all feel from time to time.
There could be a lot of reasons why someone would want some form of companionship when real life
presence is not readily available. Katie Collins (2013) quotes, Like any proud parent whose kids leave
home, Hayashi had a void to fill. He s doing that by creating a robot

Naturally, as human beings we have some racism and discrimination built into us. There have been
numerous problems concerning discrimination in the past. A few Canadians blame immigrants for
taking their jobs, therefore putting them out of work. One big issue dealing with racism in Canada
would be the whole affair concerning the town of Africville in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 1896 1907.
This was around the time when the Canadian West was being settled. This was a huge case of
segregation between the black people from Africa and the white people from Canada originally.
During this time, the current Canadians in Halifax decided that they would send all the new black
immigrants to a small piece of land near a garbage dump. This land was not considered desirable to
the Canadians so they gave it to the black immigrants and called the little settlement Africville. These
black immigrants were treated awful. They were given poor living conditions along with no running
water. I cannot imagine how horrible it would feel to be secluded and disrespected in that way. Finally
50 years after this terrible act of racism, the city of Halifax apologized for the horrible act that they
had done. This apology was overdue but an apology of any sort is better than none. Another big case
of discrimination is the Indian Act of 1867. This act forced people to give up their traditional ways of
life and to assimilate Aboriginal peoples so they would adopt the European

The Dangers Of Vaccinating Children From Viruses That...
Mothers who are vaccinated are protecting their unborn children from viruses that could cause birth
defects. Protecting future generations is vital in order to try and exterminate disease. The dangers of
not vaccinating include exposing the individual child to disease, and also exposing other vulnerable
people who may have compromised immune systems or not are eligible for vaccination. By receiving
a vaccination you are limiting a future outbreak. Disease has been a problem for as long as mankind
has been around. By making vaccinations mandatory for schools in every state we as a whole will be
much healthier and less likely to get sick. 93% of children between the ages of 19 35 months have
gotten the vaccine for Polio and the causes for that disease have decreased by 99%. In today s world
our medicine and science is getting much better. One of the first vaccines created was for smallpox. A
man named Edward Jenner discovered that by taking the right amount of the live virus cowpox
(vaccinia) and injecting it into his patients they did not catch smallpox. Like most things, the right
dosage of a vaccine can prevent people from getting sick. The fact that vaccines have nearly gotten rid
of some deadly diseases is a reason why getting vaccinated is important. With better education and
information, people who choose not to vaccinate their children can be encouraged to consider
vaccination, which will benefit both their families and society as a whole.

The Complexity Of Identity Work Constructed By Manh Essay
Data analysis
This section provides an analysis of several aspects of identity work constructed by Manh, one of the
five teachers participated in my study. Through the analysis, it is interesting to observe the complexity
of Manh s identity construction. The identity work constructed by Manh encompasses not only aspects
of Manh being a friendly and approachable teacher, but also Manh s approach to power and morality
exercising in the classroom context. The analysis is divided into two main parts. The first part exhibits
examples of how Manh portraits himself as a funny, sensible and approachable teacher. The second
part presents examples where traces of power practice and morality are under scrutiny. Class
observation notes and interview data including are used as a complementary sources for the analysis.
1.1. The dynamic process of identity construction
Drawing from the classroom data, there are examples where Manh s identity construction can be
associated to the identity of a funny, friendly and approachable teacher. This observation is drawn
from several teacher initiated humour examples found in the classroom discourse. The humor is
delivered through teacher s use of humorous questions, imaginary situation and metaphor that
provokes humor. These phenomena are found in extract 1.
Extract 1 is taken from one of Manh s lessons and the main topic is about friendship . According to my
observation from this particular stage of the lesson, Manh writes on the board one at a

management that were more intellectual than managerial. As I realized I might be a good candidate for
a career in academia, I accepted the position of visiting lecturer of Statistics at Thames International

Furthermore, I not only took delight in my frequent interactions and discussions with my professors
about the research, but also thoroughly enjoyed working on the materials without daily supervision.
This experience has been very crucial in developing my passion for academic research and I want to
further pursue this interest by obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Management.
During the doctoral program, I desire to explore the fields of exchange rate risk, and financial and
banking crisis management. An undergraduate research project on the Russian Currency Crisis of
1998 has helped me develop a keen interest in these sub fields of Economics. I began the project in the
seminar section on Central Banking by Prof. Roisin O Sullivan. The paper examined the role of the
Central Bank of Russia in devaluation of the Ruble and the Russian default of 1998 along with its
involvement in the crisis management process. This research required me to learn theories ranging
from Paul Krugman s Balance of Payment Crises to recent models of monetary policies independently
in a very short span of time and as well as apply them in context of Russia an economy in political
transition. It would be, therefore, very interesting to study, on a larger scale, the role of central banks
and governments in crisis management process to help boost business

Mary Queen Of Scots Research Paper
Mary, Queen of Scots, was born Mary Stuart on December 8, 1542 to King James V and Mary Guise
in Linlithgow, Scotland. Six days after her birth her father King James passed away. Because she was
the only living heir to the throne the infant Mary became queen of Scotland. Because Mary was too
young to take the throne her mother, Mary of Guise was made regent, a person who is appointed to
run the government when a king or queen is too young or ill to take the throne.
King Henry VIII of England decided to try and benefit from this temporary regent by suggesting that
Mary and his son Prince Edward be promised in marriage to unify England and Scotland. At first this
idea seemed prosperous and Mary was sworn to Edward through the Treaty of Greenwich.

because it would help me fall asleep at night. I think this book was very appealing to me because after
my mom or dad finished reading it to me, we would go around the room and say goodnight to

that says Goodnight mush, I would have to ask my parents what that meant. I never failed to ask them

Sandcastle Worm Research Paper
What do you think of when you see a worm? Would you ever consider the possibilities of a worm

possibilities in helping out in the medical field. However, it seems the humble sandcastle worm is in
danger of becoming a cling on warrior and very popular in the media eye. The sandcastle worm
possesses a very unique ability. The sandcastle worm (Phragmatopoma californica), live in sandcastles

puncture the fetal membrane, the sac containing the developing baby, and this rupture can lead to a

Rites Of Passage In Turyl Markham s Brothers Are The Same
Every person begins their life with birth and resolves with death, rites of passage help people feel
apart of society, where the changes are vast, amending both themselves as well as their society they
reside to. In Beryl Markham s short story, Brothers Are The Same , Temas, a sixteen year old boy in
the Masai tribe, dreams of achieving manhood through the killing of a lion, nevertheless in doing so,
he must show wholly no signs of fear. Remarkably, throughout Temas s ordeal, he fears failure and
disappointment, however, with the help of an olden enemy, Medoto, Temas not only succeeds his right
of passage though also originates a friend from an enemy. Similarly, in the movie, Tuck Everlasting,
directed by Jay Russell, an independence seeking girl, who goes by the name of Winnie, feels as
though she needs to be free, and seek each and every form of adventure in her life. Even so, Winnie
faces a difficult choice that will last a lifetime, and in the end, she chooses the right path and prevents
anyone to resolve the same mistake as a friend once made. Although Temas and Winnie face different
challenges from the influences being pushed upon them, both opt for decisions that change them each
into a superior version of themselves.
Be that as it may, if Temas fails his rite of passage, he will be marked a failure, whereas Winnie may
never fulfill a normal life. In Temas s tribe, all men had passed [the test]; all had earned the warriors

Native Americans During The World Today
In the world today, many are cognizant of the injustices faced by Native Americans as a result of the
westward expansion of white settlers. Nevertheless, one incident in the antiquity of White Indian
interactions is, in many ways, distinct, and founds one of the nation s shadiest moments: the
aggressive and forced removal of thousands of Cherokee peoples from their ancestral birthplace in the
Southern highlands of Georgia from 1838 to 1839. Known today as The Trail of Tears, following their
eviction, the Cherokee were made to march hundreds of miles through harsh terrain and weather
conditions, in order to get to specific reservations crafted for them in the west at that time. This event,
however, was seemingly inevitable, given past interactions between the Natives and the government.
The Cherokee people, from the late eighteenth century to the mid nineteenth, faced issues involving
their cultural identity and property, both of which would evermore change their traditions, customs,
culture, and lives. Though from first hand documents we see that the Cherokee were of the more
civilized tribes that excelled at espousing to Euro American society, this was not enough to protect
them from the wrath of the American government and settlers. Despite their great effort to persist in
their land, they lost, but not without a fight. In this paper, I intend to examine the logical and moral
arguments made by white institutions, like the Supreme Court, white settlers like William

History Of The Black People Of Canada
If you think that the Black Canadians were unified, well by the end of this I will change your mind.
This is one of the first reasons why, all of the Black Canadians were promised to be given freedom if
they would fight on the British side during the war, but not all of them agreed to this order as nearly
3500 of them stayed to fight war and the rest went to find a better path of escaping slavery, many of
them worked as labor workers, soldiers, pilots cooks etc. After the Canadian Confederation took place,
many of the Black Canadians were enticed by the recruitment campaigns which led to Canada s
prairie provinces. Because of all this, the Black Canadians were divided into separate groups and sent
off to different prairie provinces, there were some of them in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. ...

A parallel force includes at least two forces where all lines of action are parallel.
(c) Explain the difference between point loads and uniformly distributed loads. Include annotated
pictorial diagrams
Point Load In the field of engineering, a point load is a load applied to a single, specific point on a
structural member. It is also known as a concentrated load, and an example of it would be a hammer
hitting a single nail into a beam.
Uniformly Distributed Load A UDL, or a uniformly distributed load, has a constant value, for
example, 1kN/m; hence the uniform distribution of the load. Each uniformly distributed load can be
changed to a simple point force that can be used to determine the stresses in an object. A uniformly
distributed load can be drawn by using arrows and lines. First, the vectors must be drawn along where
the load acts and must be connected with tails. A single line must connect the vectors together and
represent the force point. The line should be horizontal.
What is the difference between a Point Load and a Uniformly Distributed Load?
A point load is a load which acts over a small distance. Because of concentration over small distance
this load may be considered as acting on a point. Point load is denoted by P and symbol of point load
is arrow heading downward whereas a distributed load is one that acts over a considerable length or
you can say over a length which is

The Causes Of Mass Violence And Video Games
Over the past couple years, mass crime has been a rising issue. Many experts have desperately been
seeking answers as to why these outbreaks have been occurring. However, maybe the answer is closer
than it appears. Across the country, mass violence has been a tragic and frequent problem. Video
games have been a popular topic when it comes to the investigation of the criminals committing these
cynical acts. But could it be possible that these violent video games actually are enabling an outlet to
unwind and shed the stress rather than influencing crime? In America, violent episodes over the years
have skyrocketed due to psychological stress. Video Games and other various forms of media,
however, offer a person an outlet or coping mechanism when facing emotional pressure. Therefore, by
making these forms of entertainment more affordable and accessible to all, American leaders could
greatly reduce episodes of mass violence. Experts have been hunting explanations for the outbreaks
across America. Many fingers cannot help but to point towards video games. Video games over the
years have advanced tremendously when it comes to their realistic qualities. Because some of these
video games have such dark content, it raises concern in certain people. However in an article written
by Ryan Dube, he states that. Although it is a big claim to make, it is proven many times over that
playing video games can relieve your stress, reduce your depression, and make you feel better . By

produced thoughts that completely destroy the phrase speed kills . So... Would lowering the speed
limits on highways actually make driving on them safer?
If you were to ask a medical doctor that question, I m sure the answer would be yes. The higher the
speed a vehicle is traveling at, the more damage its energy may cause. According to LLLL, The
medical community has been trying to lower the frequency and severity of crashes for years. Dr.
Haddon, and others in his field, says that speed is a two pronged aggravator of human harm on roads.
The higher a vehicle s travel speed, the greater its likelihood of becoming involved in a crash; the
higher the impact speed when a crash occurs, the more severe the injuries . The medical community
isn t the only group of professionals that stand behind lower speed limits on our highways. There are
several other groups that want speeds lowered for reasons that have less to do with our safety.
Insurance companies, police agencies, state transportation departments, and national safety
organizations would have us believe that speed limits are a critical

Dame Folly Demonstrates The Nature Of Choices
Napoleon once said, Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide.
We all make choices every day, some more serious, and some less. Do I wear this shirt, or that one?
Do I eat that slice of cake or no? Do I start a conversation with that student? Do I choose to obey
God? The book of Proverbs highlights the vital nature of choices. In Proverbs 9, you see Lady
Wisdom inviting whoever bypassers to join her for a feast. At the same time, however, Dame Folly is
right there loudly persuading those same bypassers into her house Wisdom has built her house; she has
hewn her seven pillars. She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine; she has alos set her
table. She has sent out her young women to call

The Liberal Era Of The Progressive Era
A great democracy has got to be progressive or it will soon cease to be great or a democracy. ( ). The
Progressive Era consisted of reformers demanding the government to clean up society. Entering office
in 1904, Theodore Roosevelt was an individual in the republican Party, but as the country began to
spin out of control Roosevelt joined the new Progressive Party and saved the country from a
disastrous ending (685). Reformers set out to cleanse the country go its wrong doings. The
progressivism agenda included: an active government to right political, economic and social wrongs
(685). The activist only wanted the governments intervention for a short period of time then let the

Multiple groups consolidated to fight for reform. The economic down fall was too drastic that it
effected a significant number of people from several groups, among those included young protestants,
muckrakers, and socialist. Young protestants were passionate for righting moral wrongs and up lifting
human spirts. Being raised in a protestant home prompted their interest in social actions. Even though
many of them abandoned their religious pathway of becoming ministries or missionaries they were
still discouraged in the corruption in American politics and the separation of rich and poor classes. Ida
B Wells was a young protestant known as a muckraker, whom worked in investigation journalism, her
goal was to dredge up the muck in American institutions. Ida B Well exposed John d Rockefeller as he
had turned his Standard Oil Company into monopoly. The govenor of New Year, theodore Roosevelt
gained congresses attention by his strong dedication, leadership and effort to rid the state of corruption
and patronage. This type of characteristics was exactly needed in a president during this time of
movement. Roosevelt was chosen to be McKinley s running mate. McKinley won the election but

The Math Skills Of Asian Children
Abstract Nowadays, many people know about the superiority of the math skills of Asian children.
According to the 2012 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), top five countries that
do well in mathematics are China, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, and Korea. All of them are
Asian countries (Weisenthal, 2013). [Context] Asian people are statistically better in mathematics,
especially in terms of mathematics calculation. However, researchers in non Asian countries tend to
get more achievements in research mathematics. [Subject] Researches in pure mathematics and
applied mathematics are significant as mathematics can be applied in various areas, such as economics
and physics. If Asian researchers ability in mathematical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nowadays, researches have showed that Asian students are better at mathematics, while most non
Asian students are better at research mathematics. Although Asian people tend to perform well in math
contests, they tend to be inferior in the area of research mathematics comparing with their
international counterparts. This report will analyze it on many aspects and pay attention to its
significance. Besides, this report will also make suggestions, in order to improve the performance in
the field of mathematics for Asian students and make more contribution to the development of our

The Between Classical And Classical Period And Hellenistic...
As the Hellenistic society shifted away from the Classical ideals of perfectionism and idolization of
the elites and gods in sculpture, artists began to be fixated on illustrating imperfection of a variety of
individuals faced with ruthless authenticity of their emotional struggles. Whereas, Classical
architecture focused on dedicating massive structures to the gods to emphasize their divinity, but
Hellenistic architecture used advanced technology to exemplify Alexander the Great s magnificence.
Thus, differences in architecture can be seen in the sophisticated town of Alexandria with structures
such as the lighthouse that show how Alexander the Great influenced town planning that was
centralized on the creation of a superior city, likewise, The Altar at Pergamon expresses the loss of
focus on the divine through unique sculptural techniques. Change can also be seen in the sculptures of
The Boxer and The Old Market Woman as they are depicted to be imperfectly individualistic and in
emotional distress.
Between the Classical period and Hellenistic period, sculptural style change occurred leading to
distinguishing features that showcase cultural values of the society. Carrie Tovar, Curator of Art in the
College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University, discusses in her
article, Battered, But Unbeaten: A New Getty Acquisition, how artisans of the Hellenistic period
possessed the ability to display the subjects of their pieces with ruthless

The Development of Fast Food
The development of fast food was revolutionary; however, this revolution was corrupted by big
business and the desire to maximize profit. With fast food as a staple for society, due to its
convenience, the consumer fails to realize what is inside the burger they are eating. The customers are
eating foods which are filled with additives such as cellulose and L cysteine. Additives are good for
the bottom line, but bad for the well being of the consumer. Cost effective additives may be justifiable
from a businessman s perspective, but what about the consumer? Cellulose, better known as wood
pulp, doesn t come to mind as millions of uninformed customers chow down on their McNuggets.
This additive is not simply pieces of tree bark cleverly hidden within fast food. Instead, it is a paste or
powder (FoodBabe). Wood pulp is added to fast foods because of its caloric value of zero. With the
absence of calories, food containing cellulose provides no nutritional value besides giving consumers
that satisfying, full feeling. According to the FDA, cellulose consumption by humans, regardless of
the amount, has no effect other than providing dietary bulk, reducing nutritive value of such food
stuffs and possibly exerting a laxative effect (FDA). Many abusers of this filler include McDonalds,
Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, Wendy s, Arby s, and Sonic. In this caloric conscious world, is it really the
company s fault for filling products with additives which have little caloric value, or

Chile Trench Research Paper
The Peru Chile Trench, also known as the Atacama Trench, is an oceanic trench in the eastern Pacific
Ocean. It s a fault line that is 100 miles off the coast of Peru and Chile, and also happens to be the
fault line that we were assigned. The Peru Chile Trench reaches a maximum depth of 26,460 ft below
sea level in Richard Deep and is approximately 3,666 miles long, meaning that the width is 40 miles
and it covers an expanse of about 228,000 square miles.
The trench marks the subduction of the Nazca plate under the South American plate. The Nazca plate
is conveniently named after the Nazca region of the southern part of Peru, and is an oceanic plate in
the eastern Pacific Ocean, right off the west coast of South America. The subduction mentioned earlier
is when Nazca plate is forced down and goes under the South American plate, where it then digs into
the mantle. The subduction of the Nazca Plate below the South American Plate along the Chile Peru
Trench is associated with numerous earthquakes. Several of these earthquakes are notable for their
size, associated tsunamis or landslides. Nazca ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lesson Reflection Paper
During field, I am in a third grade classroom at Primos Elementary School in Upper Darby, PA. To
maintain confidentiality as I write about my field experience, I will be using pseudo names for the
teacher and children mentioned. My field teacher is Mrs. Williams, and her classroom is home to
about eighteen to twenty diverse third grades in terms of socioeconomic status, race, and ethnicity.
When I am in the classroom, I am fortunate to see the children s unpacking routine as they enter the
classroom which consist of removing necessary materials from their backpacks, taking down their
chairs from their desks, and for some students, eating breakfast which they paid for through the
school. After the students finish unpacking, Mrs. Williams tries to implement a form of morning
meeting, although she cannot always do so depending on the behaviors of her students. Typically,
however, she finds just enough time to go over news and announcements with her class. After morning
meeting, the students have math instruction from 9:15 am until 10:25 am. After math, her students go
to their specials class, and then off to lunch. In this paper, I will be analyzing one of Mrs. Williams
math lessons, to see if her lesson meets the elements of a lesson. The first step of an effective lesson
plan, as discussed in class, is to identify the standards that are going to be targeted during the lesson.
Mrs. Williams did not identify which standards she was going to be focusing on in her

Time Management, Leadership Handbook
Time Management
Before analyzing time management need to know how time is currently being used. Two questions to
ask: First, the amount of time I have? Secondly, how is my time being used? The first question is
easier to answer as most people work eight hours day that may vary times and locations depending on
type of work. The second question can be more challenging to identify where time is being used. For
example, is most of one s time speaking on the phone, answering e mails, writing reports, or waiting
for others to finish their job before starting their task? To assist with identifying these it is
recommended to keep a time log that details where the hours in the workday are used. Below is a
sample of a time log that can be used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some common time wasters are: doing a wrong task, underestimating the time it takes to do a task, not
delegating tasks appropriately, delaying/procrastinating, and letting conversations go too long.
Improving Time Management Habits
We know time is very valuable and there is a lot to be done in limited hours. The first exercise
discussed above involved using a time log and identifying how time is currently being used. Once
certain tasks are identified as time wasters, there are three steps one can do to improve his or her time
management: 1. Controlling environment, which includes physical items surrounding as well as
mental environment with things we watch and think about. 2. Using technology when practical to be
more efficient. For example, e mail allows responding to many more people at once than phone or
mailing; however, it can be less personable and have less of a response than other communication
methods. 3. Avoid time stealers, which include time wasters, television, and social networking
websites. While some jobs can benefit from social networking, majority of the time people find time
passing by when utilizing social media.
Finally, managing paperwork is another area where time management habits can be improved. One tip
is to not keep any hard copies of digital documents such as pdf s and e mails. Since these are readily
accessible and backed up in cloud computing, it is unnecessary to keep

The Triumph of Les Misérables Essays
The Triumph of Les Misérables
Les Misérables (1862), a novel set in early nineteenth century France, presents a story of obsessions in
honor, love, and duty, and through it redemption and salvation. It is the story of the poor Jean Valjean,
condemned to an unfair amount of time in prison and a life on the run for stealing a loaf of bread for
his starving family. The kind act of forgiveness from a Bishop with whom Jean Valjean stays one
night, changes the course in which he chooses to live his life. Under a different identity, he becomes
wealthy from a business he starts and later is elected mayor of the small town of Montreuil. He falls
madly in love with Fantine, one of the workers in his factory. Because Fantine, one of the very ...

Even though the character s fate is leading them to lives of misery, their obsession to have a perfectly
complete and happy life in their eyes is prevailing. In Victor Hugo s novel Les Misérables he uses the
character s obsession to portray the hardships people are willing to endure to obtain what they truly
desire in their lives.
Jean Valjean, the main character of the book, has two obsessions throughout the novel; living by the
Bishop s word (becoming a man of God s will,) and protecting and raising Cosette away from the evils
of the world. In the beginning of the story, Jean Valjean can not find anyone to take him in for the
night. Because he is a convict, marked by a yellow passport, the Bishop s home is the only door open
to him. A convict may leave the galleys behind, but not his condemnation (26). Despite the Bishop s
kindness, during the night Jean Valjean steals all of the silver from the house and flees the town. Not
far from the Bishop s house, Jean Valjean is captured and returned to the Bishop, who tells the police
he gave the silver to the convict. Once the police excuse themselves, the Bishop says, Jean Valjean,
never forget that you have promised me to use this silver to become an honest man . . . . You belong
no longer to evil, but to good. It is your soul that I am buying for you. I give it to God! (33). From that
moment on, Jean Valjean dedicates his life to helping the misfortunate and vows to never again

My Life Of The Sixth Grade
In the beginning of the sixth grade, I lived in the city of Westlake, Ohio, as I had for just over two
years, and attended Parkside Middle School. As I had for just over two years, I felt very content and
happy with my young life and all it contained. Then came my mother, with the news that we would be
moving away to the city of Canfield. My mother soothed my slight worry with the knowledge that
Canfield was just a few minutes away from Youngstown, Ohio, where I had lived for all the time
before the third grade, and where the vast majority of my family resided. She pointed out that I was
content with life there once, and could indeed be more happy in the area than before. Thus, I meekly
accepted the move, and came to expect nothing severely ill of it. That expectation was a
miscalculation. My living in Canfield proved to be detrimental to my physical and emotional health,
and served greatly to change the core of my personality. The effect of living in Canfield brought onto
me before the others listed previously, and the effect that served actually to precipitate the other two
effects, was the damage to my emotional health. That effect was due to rather prevalent amounts of
bullying that I experienced within Canfield Village Middle School. Other students would often mock
me for my oddities. The brunt of their taunts focussed on the combination of two thingsmy rather
great amounts of outspokenness combined with my uninterest in forging friendships or other common
pursuits.

Sidewinder Snakes
Dr. Joseph Mendelson from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Atlanta Zoo presented his
research on the mechanism used by sidewinder snakes for locomotion on sand with the
implementation of a robot snake as a model system. The research study involved the collaboration of
the physics, engineering and biology departments to further understand the nature of snake
movements. Sidewinders are snakes that are able to move on sand at different inclinations because
they do not slither but rather employ a different mechanism of movement. Dr. Mendelson was able to
determine that the robot snake which mimics a snake that slithers is unable to move on sand with an
inclination greater than zero degrees. The research involved the use of a sandbox which ... Show more

From the observations of snakes in nature, the results showed that their locomotion is truly optimized
based on their repeated operations being maintained in an effective zone. The robot snake was
manipulated with different durations and amounts of lifts and contacts that would vary, but be
maintained in the ineffective zone due to the failed movement on sand. Another research study
involved the examination of the mechanisms employed by sidewinders for turning in a different
direction of movement. The results suggested that sidewinders change directions horizontally or
vertically by changing the angle of their head. An analysis of the robot snake demonstrated an
unobservable locomotion that it is possible to move in both a horizontal and vertical wave movement
on the sand in order to change directions via a differential or reversal turning locomotion. Through the
investigation of these research studies, Dr. Mendelson and his co researchers were able to discover
that in effect sidewinders suffer a cost of being able to implement a different locomotion on
inclinations of sand. Sidewinders are not able to avoid obstacles as easily as snakes that slither which
can just turn their heads in a slight angle away from the obstacle in order to avoid it. The results
showed that the reason for this cost is due to the mechanism that sidewinders use for which the head
does not reach the obstacle first to avoid the obstacle beforehand instead of being tangled by it with
their body. A study that is currently being conducted involves the investigation of the interface
between a floor substrate and the skin of a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Polyepoxide
Epoxy or polyepoxide is a cross linking thermosetting polymer that cures (polymerizes and cross
links) when mixed with a hardener or curing agent. Most common epoxy resins are formed by the
polymerization between epichlorohydrin and bisphenol A. Dr. S.O. Greenlee of United States and Dr.
Pierre Castan of Switzerland were in the year 1936, first jointly synthesized bisphenol A based epoxy
resins.
Epoxy resin is most widely used as a matrix for advanced structural composites due to their superior

Research Testing the Shot Distance of the Crossbow, the...
I am researching this because I am interested in medieval and roman weaponry and how it works so it
was a simple choice to make and test different weapons from those eras. I am finding out which shoots
the furthest the crossbow, the catapult, or the slingshot and if I do not know how they work, I cannot
compare them to each other so I decided to research this.
My hypothesis is that the catapult will shoot the furthest and I think that I am right do to previous
research by professionals. But in other cases the catapult is made to full size but in this case it is made
to a scale factor of 25% of its original size so that might affect the result because in the larger version
there is more force on the launcher and in the crossbow there isn t as much tension build up.

John Searle s Argument Analysis
John Searle, devises his Chinese Room Experiment in order to challenge Alan Turing s assumptions
rather a machine can think. Searle believes that the Turing Test is insufficient, because a machine can t
really think without knowing what s it doing . He believes that the Turing test doesn t require an
individual to have intelligence in order to pass. By proving so, the Chinese Room Experiment is an
example that explains why machines aren t really intelligent since it is just programmed to stimulate
the answers desired.

Searle claims, As regards the first claim, it seems to me quite obvious in the example that I do not
understand a word of the Chinese stories. I have input and outputs that are indistinguishable from
those of the native Chinese speaker, and I can have any formal program you like, but I still understand
nothing. The point he was trying to get across was that he does not need to know Chinese to translate
it, because he is given the program as a guide. Searle is able to fool the person who understands
Chinese by answering the questions given to him in Chinese because of the instruction book. This
proves Alan Turing is wrong about machine intelligence because a machine can not truly think it is
just programed to simulate the knowledge it is given. Another example of searle convincing argument
would be that All the same, he understand nothing of chinese and a fortiori neither does the system,
because there isn t anything in the system that isn t in him. If he doesn t understand, then there is no
way the system could understand because the system is just a part of him. Searle interpreted this by
clarifying that even if the person remembers the instruction book, he will not understand Chinese.
Even if he did all the calculations, memorizes the rules and worked outdoor, This convinces me
because what Searle is proving is that the person would not even understand Chinese, because he
would not get the meaning of

Public Money Should Cut Down Expenses For Space Exploration
Public money should be spent wisely and with regard to the interests of taxpayers. If the developed
technologies will be used in the futrue to earn money for private companies and not citizens, then its
research should be financed with private funds. A private investor uses financial resources much more
efficiently and achieve better results. Proof of this is the activity of Space X, belonging to billionaire
Elon Musk. This company is very active in the field of space flight and space exploration. Even
though some people think that this is extremely important for humanity, governments should cut down
expenses for space exploration because its root cause is behind the curve, there are many other
problems that need to be solved first, and large scale community development is impossible on any
planet but Earth.
The space race has begun in the time of the Cold War in 1955 as the competition between the Soviet
Union and United States. It was about prestige and spying the rival from the space. The Cold Was is
finished, USA and Russian governments inform that there is no reason for a human presence on the
Moon, but they still make giant expenses for space programs. Both countries have many problems that
affect the communities in their daily lives, but their governments have spend billions of dollars every
year on space technology and space exploration. The worst thing is that when some scientific
discoveries and completed studies will make the developed technology profitable,

  • 2. Campaign Contributions Of The Federal Election Campaign Act Campaign contributions destroy the marketplace by expelling the views of average citizens in exchange for the views of corporate donors that don t have the opportunity to have their views scrutinized by the public. Their views are safe from criticism because they are able to shield their views through backdoor talks with candidates. According Samuel Issacharoff, a professor of Constitutional Law at the New York University of Law, in reference to political corruption, the source of corruption was large expenditures capturing the marketplace of political ideas (Issacharoff). The spread of ideas is essential to democracy and large donations to campaigns prevents ideas from average citizens from being considered. The corruption from large corporations needs to be regulated to allow for our democratic elections to be free and fair for everyone involved so that all suggestions can be heard. Congress tried to regulate this corruption by passing the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) of 1971. This act aimed to require campaigns to report all contributions and prevent direct campaign contributions by corporations and unions. The act imposed contribution limits by corporations to candidates. These limits fostered an environment where PACs or political action committees were formed. The Federal Election Commission states, corporations and unions could use treasury funds to establish, operate and solicit voluntary contributions for the organization s separate segregated fund ... • 3. Marwaris Essay We are Marwaris, a conservative community of businessmen, originally from the Indian desert state of Rajasthan. Historically, we have been migrating for better prospects since the early sixteenth century. Consequently, we spread extensively over India; later even to Nepal and Bangladesh. A characteristic that sets us apart from other migrating people is that we integrate with our host ethnic groups; adopt local culture. The Kolkata Marwari speaks Bengali and enjoys his Mishti Doi, Marwaris in Mumbai, speak Marathi; are inseparable from the local Marathas. Even though we amalgamate with the local cultures, we maintain our social Marwari identities. Therefore, we celebrate Teej and Gangaur, two festivals that define our Rajasthani identity. Therefore by looking at the observation through the 3 lenses we can also look at children s movements from the interpersonal to the intrapersonal level of development within the child s zone of proximal development (Edwards p 14). We can also observe how a more capable peer or an adult scaffolds a child s learning through these observation. By documenting Sara s learning journey we can assess and analyse her development through the 3 lenses and how the people involved and the environment play a very important part in scaffolding her learning. Through the 3 lenses we observed: Personal: * Aalya is motivated and interested in learning more about the plants, as she initiates this activity when she finds the magnifying glass. * She is actively engaged in exploring and investigating the plants in her garden. * There are multiple perspectives, in natural science through the exploration and discussion about living plants, and how Aalya relates her age to the number of beans she is putting in the cup (mathematics). Interpersonal: * There is a shared understanding between Aalya and Rehan about what they need to grow plants. This is evident during their discussion and actions whilst planting seeds. * There are adult and child interactions (parents and nanny with both Rehan and Aalya) and child to child interactions (Rehan and Aalya discussing planting the seeds) ... • 5. Vision At The Blind And Visually Impaired Vision is defined as the sense by which objects in the external environment are perceived by means of the light they give off or reflect (Saunders, 2007). Vision is very a significant aspect in human life. If an individual is visually impaired, it will cause other developmental delays in that individual including the sensory, motor, cognitive, social and language developments (Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, n.d.). It is already well known that infants are not born with perfect vision. They only achieve vision close to adult maturity by about six months after birth. There are a lot of aspects of vision in infants that undergoes development such as contrast sensitivity function, acuity perception, motion perception, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, by knowing how colour vision differs in infants and adults, if we find out that an infant does not have colour vision that works the same way as adults, then even if the test has been adapted for infants, it still cannot be used. FPL chromatic discrimination paradigm is used for examining colour vision in infants. From experiments conducted using FPL chromatic discrimination paradigm, it is proven that colour vision of infants improve significantly between 1 and 3 months of age (Brown, 1990). In a review paper by Brown (1990), it is stated that infants at 3 to 4 weeks of age generally have poor ability to discriminate colours. However, when long wavelength lights are used, the result is vague. Most experiments result in infants at 1 month of age failing to distinguish the stimulus when it comes to using long wavelength light. Having said that, there are a few reported infants that could discriminate successfully. As for infants over 2 months old, it is clear that half of them could make some chromatic discriminations. At 3 months of age, based on the several studies mentioned by Brown (1990), most of the infants can already make chromatic discriminations. Hence, it is concluded that they have colour vision to a certain degree as they might not necessarily be trichromats nor have the colour vision of an adult. • 7. Descriptive Essay About Dark Sun Dark Sun He was my sun, my shining beam of light, my shining ray that warms me to an extent, that doesn t seem achievable to man. His gentle, and sympathetic words, inspired me, and constructed me, he was perfect. My world was sparkling, and colorful, it was sugar coated, and honey slathered with compliments, inspiration, encouragement. I knew I could rely on him, He was, to me a soft teddy bear, you could snuggle anytime you wanted, or needed. I adored him, I cared for him, more than a child warmly loves their parents. Who am I speaking of, you might ask? Who s the knight in shining armor i m speaking so highly of? Of course, my dear older brother. He was all I ever wanted, and needed, more than I would deserve. I lived like a carefree princess, until, that, came to a sputtering stop. I never thought of him the same way. It was a tranquil day, in my cozy household. I was listening to the mellow, and soft sound of the faint cracking of my ignited fireplace. The smell of cherry like oak, mixed with buttery, pumpkin spiced bread stuffed the air. I was snug in a wool blanket, my fingers heated on a hearty chunk of a toasted loaf. I was blissfully plucking tiny chunks, and chewing it with glee. Awaiting my big sibling to arrive from home, I was jumpy, and impatient. *Creak, bmph* My ears perked up, and I quickly dived out of my comfort area. My eyes darted to glare at the door, which was obviously being opened. A tiny crack appeared, and my ears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Naturally, as human beings we have some racism and discrimination built into us. There have been numerous problems concerning discrimination in the past. A few Canadians blame immigrants for taking their jobs, therefore putting them out of work. One big issue dealing with racism in Canada would be the whole affair concerning the town of Africville in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 1896 1907. This was around the time when the Canadian West was being settled. This was a huge case of segregation between the black people from Africa and the white people from Canada originally. During this time, the current Canadians in Halifax decided that they would send all the new black immigrants to a small piece of land near a garbage dump. This land was not considered desirable to the Canadians so they gave it to the black immigrants and called the little settlement Africville. These black immigrants were treated awful. They were given poor living conditions along with no running water. I cannot imagine how horrible it would feel to be secluded and disrespected in that way. Finally 50 years after this terrible act of racism, the city of Halifax apologized for the horrible act that they had done. This apology was overdue but an apology of any sort is better than none. Another big case of discrimination is the Indian Act of 1867. • 10. The Dangers Of Vaccinating Children From Viruses That... Mothers who are vaccinated are protecting their unborn children from viruses that could cause birth defects. Protecting future generations is vital in order to try and exterminate disease. The dangers of not vaccinating include exposing the individual child to disease, and also exposing other vulnerable people who may have compromised immune systems or not are eligible for vaccination. By receiving a vaccination you are limiting a future outbreak. Disease has been a problem for as long as mankind has been around. By making vaccinations mandatory for schools in every state we as a whole will be much healthier and less likely to get sick. 93% of children between the ages of 19 35 months have gotten the vaccine for Polio and the causes for that disease have decreased by 99%. In today s world our medicine and science is getting much better. One of the first vaccines created was for smallpox. A man named Edward Jenner discovered that by taking the right amount of the live virus cowpox (vaccinia) and injecting it into his patients they did not catch smallpox. Like most things, the right dosage of a vaccine can prevent people from getting sick. The fact that vaccines have nearly gotten rid of some deadly diseases is a reason why getting vaccinated is important. With better education and information, people who choose not to vaccinate their children can be encouraged to consider vaccination, which will benefit both their families and society as a whole. The Complexity Of Identity Work Constructed By Manh Essay Data analysis This section provides an analysis of several aspects of identity work constructed by Manh, one of the five teachers participated in my study. Through the analysis, it is interesting to observe the complexity of Manh s identity construction. The identity work constructed by Manh encompasses not only aspects of Manh being a friendly and approachable teacher, but also Manh s approach to power and morality exercising in the classroom context. The analysis is divided into two main parts. The first part exhibits examples of how Manh portraits himself as a funny, sensible and approachable teacher. The second part presents examples where traces of power practice and morality are under scrutiny. Class observation notes and interview data including are used as a complementary sources for the analysis. 1.1. The dynamic process of identity construction Drawing from the classroom data, there are examples where Manh s identity construction can be associated to the identity of a funny, friendly and approachable teacher. The humor is delivered through teacher s use of humorous questions, imaginary situation and metaphor that provokes humor. These phenomena are found in extract 1. During the doctoral program, I desire to explore the fields of exchange rate risk, and financial and banking crisis management. An undergraduate research project on the Russian Currency Crisis of 1998 has helped me develop a keen interest in these sub fields of Economics. I began the project in the seminar section on Central Banking by Prof. Roisin O Sullivan. The paper examined the role of the Central Bank of Russia in devaluation of the Ruble and the Russian default of 1998 along with its involvement in the crisis management process. This research required me to learn theories ranging from Paul Krugman s Balance of Payment Crises to recent models of monetary policies independently in a very short span of time and as well as apply them in context of Russia an economy in political transition. Because Mary was too young to take the throne her mother, Mary of Guise was made regent, a person who is appointed to run the government when a king or queen is too young or ill to take the throne. • 16. Sandcastle Worm Research Paper What do you think of when you see a worm? Would you ever consider the possibilities of a worm saving the life of a fetus? Worms to me were the last candidate to inspire anything, let alone the possibilities in helping out in the medical field. However, it seems the humble sandcastle worm is in danger of becoming a cling on warrior and very popular in the media eye. The sandcastle worm possesses a very unique ability. Rites Of Passage In Turyl Markham s Brothers Are The Same Every person begins their life with birth and resolves with death, rites of passage help people feel apart of society, where the changes are vast, amending both themselves as well as their society they reside to. In Beryl Markham s short story, Brothers Are The Same , Temas, a sixteen year old boy in the Masai tribe, dreams of achieving manhood through the killing of a lion, nevertheless in doing so, he must show wholly no signs of fear. Remarkably, throughout Temas s ordeal, he fears failure and disappointment, however, with the help of an olden enemy, Medoto, Temas not only succeeds his right of passage though also originates a friend from an enemy. Similarly, in the movie, Tuck Everlasting, directed by Jay Russell, an independence seeking girl, who goes by the name of Winnie, feels as though she needs to be free, and seek each and every form of adventure in her life. Even so, Winnie faces a difficult choice that will last a lifetime, and in the end, she chooses the right path and prevents anyone to resolve the same mistake as a friend once made. Although Temas and Winnie face different challenges from the influences being pushed upon them, both opt for decisions that change them each into a superior version of themselves. Nevertheless, one incident in the antiquity of White Indian interactions is, in many ways, distinct, and founds one of the nation s shadiest moments: the aggressive and forced removal of thousands of Cherokee peoples from their ancestral birthplace in the Southern highlands of Georgia from 1838 to 1839. Known today as The Trail of Tears, following their eviction, the Cherokee were made to march hundreds of miles through harsh terrain and weather conditions, in order to get to specific reservations crafted for them in the west at that time. This event, however, was seemingly inevitable, given past interactions between the Natives and the government. The Cherokee people, from the late eighteenth century to the mid nineteenth, faced issues involving their cultural identity and property, both of which would evermore change their traditions, customs, culture, and lives. Though from first hand documents we see that the Cherokee were of the more civilized tribes that excelled at espousing to Euro American society, this was not enough to protect them from the wrath of the American government and settlers. A parallel force includes at least two forces where all lines of action are parallel. (c) Explain the difference between point loads and uniformly distributed loads. Include annotated pictorial diagrams Point Load In the field of engineering, a point load is a load applied to a single, specific point on a structural member. It is also known as a concentrated load, and an example of it would be a hammer hitting a single nail into a beam. Uniformly Distributed Load A UDL, or a uniformly distributed load, has a constant value, for example, 1kN/m; hence the uniform distribution of the load. Each uniformly distributed load can be changed to a simple point force that can be used to determine the stresses in an object. A uniformly distributed load can be drawn by using arrows and lines. First, the vectors must be drawn along where the load acts and must be connected with tails. A single line must connect the vectors together and represent the force point. The line should be horizontal. What is the difference between a Point Load and a Uniformly Distributed Load? A point load is a load which acts over a small distance. Because of concentration over small distance this load may be considered as acting on a point. Point load is denoted by P and symbol of point load is arrow heading downward whereas a distributed load is one that acts over a considerable length or you can say over a length which is ... Many experts have desperately been seeking answers as to why these outbreaks have been occurring. However, maybe the answer is closer than it appears. Across the country, mass violence has been a tragic and frequent problem. Video games have been a popular topic when it comes to the investigation of the criminals committing these cynical acts. But could it be possible that these violent video games actually are enabling an outlet to unwind and shed the stress rather than influencing crime? In America, violent episodes over the years have skyrocketed due to psychological stress. Video Games and other various forms of media, however, offer a person an outlet or coping mechanism when facing emotional pressure. Therefore, by making these forms of entertainment more affordable and accessible to all, American leaders could greatly reduce episodes of mass violence. Experts have been hunting explanations for the outbreaks across America. Many fingers cannot help but to point towards video games. • 26. The Between Classical And Classical Period And Hellenistic... As the Hellenistic society shifted away from the Classical ideals of perfectionism and idolization of the elites and gods in sculpture, artists began to be fixated on illustrating imperfection of a variety of individuals faced with ruthless authenticity of their emotional struggles. Whereas, Classical architecture focused on dedicating massive structures to the gods to emphasize their divinity, but Hellenistic architecture used advanced technology to exemplify Alexander the Great s magnificence. Thus, differences in architecture can be seen in the sophisticated town of Alexandria with structures such as the lighthouse that show how Alexander the Great influenced town planning that was centralized on the creation of a superior city, likewise, The Altar at Pergamon expresses the loss of focus on the divine through unique sculptural techniques. Change can also be seen in the sculptures of The Boxer and The Old Market Woman as they are depicted to be imperfectly individualistic and in emotional distress. Between the Classical period and Hellenistic period, sculptural style change occurred leading to distinguishing features that showcase cultural values of the society. With fast food as a staple for society, due to its convenience, the consumer fails to realize what is inside the burger they are eating. The customers are eating foods which are filled with additives such as cellulose and L cysteine. Additives are good for the bottom line, but bad for the well being of the consumer. Cost effective additives may be justifiable from a businessman s perspective, but what about the consumer? Cellulose, better known as wood pulp, doesn t come to mind as millions of uninformed customers chow down on their McNuggets. This additive is not simply pieces of tree bark cleverly hidden within fast food. Instead, it is a paste or powder (FoodBabe). Wood pulp is added to fast foods because of its caloric value of zero. With the absence of calories, food containing cellulose provides no nutritional value besides giving consumers that satisfying, full feeling. According to the FDA, cellulose consumption by humans, regardless of the amount, has no effect other than providing dietary bulk, reducing nutritive value of such food stuffs and possibly exerting a laxative effect (FDA). Sidewinders are snakes that are able to move on sand at different inclinations because they do not slither but rather employ a different mechanism of movement. From the observations of snakes in nature, the results showed that their locomotion is truly optimized based on their repeated operations being maintained in an effective zone. The robot snake was manipulated with different durations and amounts of lifts and contacts that would vary, but be maintained in the ineffective zone due to the failed movement on sand. Another research study involved the examination of the mechanisms employed by sidewinders for turning in a different direction of movement. The results suggested that sidewinders change directions horizontally or vertically by changing the angle of their head. An analysis of the robot snake demonstrated an unobservable locomotion that it is possible to move in both a horizontal and vertical wave movement on the sand in order to change directions via a differential or reversal turning locomotion. Through the investigation of these research studies, Dr. Mendelson and his co researchers were able to discover that in effect sidewinders suffer a cost of being able to implement a different locomotion on inclinations of sand. Sidewinders are not able to avoid obstacles as easily as snakes that slither which can just turn their heads in a slight angle away from the obstacle in order to avoid it. The results showed that the reason for this cost is due to the mechanism that sidewinders use for which the head does not reach the obstacle first to avoid the obstacle beforehand instead of being tangled by it with their body. Composite sample containing 0.025% of CNTs in the epoxy resin show a remarkable improvement in the dispersion of CNTs in the epoxy resin due to ultrasound exposure. At these lower filler fractions, neither the processing behaviour (viscosity) of the matrix nor the surface finish of the samples was adversely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Research Testing the Shot Distance of the Crossbow, the... I am researching this because I am interested in medieval and roman weaponry and how it works so it was a simple choice to make and test different weapons from those eras. I am finding out which shoots the furthest the crossbow, the catapult, or the slingshot and if I do not know how they work, I cannot compare them to each other so I decided to research this. My hypothesis is that the catapult will shoot the furthest and I think that I am right do to previous research by professionals. But in other cases the catapult is made to full size but in this case it is made to a scale factor of 25% of its original size so that might affect the result because in the larger version there is more force on the launcher and in the crossbow there isn t as much tension build up. Crossbow Slingshot Hooke s Law F=KX F=Force K=Constant factor constitutes characteristics of spring and stiffness. X=Distance Hooke s Law is a physics principle the says that the force needed to pull something back in this case by some distance is directly proportional to that distance s is a constant factor that factors in the spring and stiffness. Pulling back on the string creates elastic energy and when the string is released the elastic energy forces the string to go forwards therefore transforming the elastic energy to kinetic energy which transfers into the arrow when the string reach s limit of extension. Catapult The catapult uses centrifugal force to accelerate the projectile toward the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. John Searle s Argument Analysis John Searle, devises his Chinese Room Experiment in order to challenge Alan Turing s assumptions rather a machine can think. Searle believes that the Turing Test is insufficient, because a machine can t really think without knowing what s it doing . He believes that the Turing test doesn t require an individual to have intelligence in order to pass. By proving so, the Chinese Room Experiment is an example that explains why machines aren t really intelligent since it is just programmed to stimulate the answers desired. Alan Turing proposed The Imitation Game in order to address and measure a more defined question around the level of technology. He believes that through the Imitation Game, one is able to measure the degree of technology s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Searle claims, As regards the first claim, it seems to me quite obvious in the example that I do not understand a word of the Chinese stories. I have input and outputs that are indistinguishable from those of the native Chinese speaker, and I can have any formal program you like, but I still understand nothing. The point he was trying to get across was that he does not need to know Chinese to translate it, because he is given the program as a guide. Searle is able to fool the person who understands Chinese by answering the questions given to him in Chinese because of the instruction book. This proves Alan Turing is wrong about machine intelligence because a machine can not truly think it is just programed to simulate the knowledge it is given. Another example of searle convincing argument would be that All the same, he understand nothing of chinese and a fortiori neither does the system, because there isn t anything in the system that isn t in him. If he doesn t understand, then there is no way the system could understand because the system is just a part of him. Searle interpreted this by clarifying that even if the person remembers the instruction book, he will not understand Chinese. Even if he did all the calculations, memorizes the rules and worked outdoor, This convinces me because what Searle is proving is that the person would not even understand Chinese, because he would not get the meaning of ... • 39. Public Money Should Cut Down Expenses For Space Exploration Public money should be spent wisely and with regard to the interests of taxpayers. If the developed technologies will be used in the futrue to earn money for private companies and not citizens, then its research should be financed with private funds. A private investor uses financial resources much more efficiently and achieve better results. Proof of this is the activity of Space X, belonging to billionaire Elon Musk. This company is very active in the field of space flight and space exploration. Even though some people think that this is extremely important for humanity, governments should cut down expenses for space exploration because its root cause is behind the curve, there are many other problems that need to be solved first, and large scale community development is impossible on any planet but Earth. The space race has begun in the time of the Cold War in 1955 as the competition between the Soviet Union and United States. It was about prestige and spying the rival from the space. The Cold Was is finished, USA and Russian governments inform that there is no reason for a human presence on the Moon, but they still make giant expenses for space programs. Both countries have many problems that affect the communities in their daily lives, but their governments have spend billions of dollars every year on space technology and space exploration. The worst thing is that when some scientific discoveries and completed studies will make the developed technology profitable, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
