“Copyright is a form of
protection grounded in the
U.S. Constitution and granted
by law for original works of
authorship fixed in a tangible
medium of expression.
Copyright covers both
published and unpublished

• Copyright infringement is the
distribution, use, or reproduction
of exclusive works that are
protected through copyright
without permission to reproduce.
• Plagiarism, while similar to
copyright infringement, is not
legally binding. It is the act of
reproducing one’s thoughts or

copyright infringement
• Infringer pays the actual dollar
amount of damages and profits.
• The law provides a range from $200
to $150,000 for each work
infringed.
• Infringer pays for all attorneys
fees and court costs.
• The Court can issue an injunction to
stop the infringing acts.
• The Court can impound the illegal
works.
