The Day Of Colorado For Spring Break
Adrian Monk, from the wonderful usa television series Monk, only drinks Sierra Springs bottled water. I once came across a magnificent bottle of
Sierra springs while traveling the lands of Oregon, United States, only to find out that some repulsive human being thought it necessary to relieve
themselves in the bottle. Yes, you heard me. Adrian Monks favorite water was not, in fact, water but the urine of a dirty, dirty specimen. I didn't let this
ruin my trip, though. This spring break was on that I would remember for a long time.
When my parents told me that we would be going to Oregon for spring break, I was super excited because I had never been on a plane, let alone to a
state more foreign than Minnesota. Of course other kids in my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Take off was a whirlwind of emotions and the flight was a bumpy hour. Every time the plane moved it created a tickle belly sensation that made me
laugh out loud almost the entire ride. People were most likely annoyed with me but this was the most tickle bellies I'd received in my entire life. What
a time to be alive.
Daylight slowly escaped us as we finally arrived in Portland. Rental car, two parents who didn't know where they were going and three kids who
were worn out and were falling asleep in the very spot they stood. I'm sure the frustration was rising with each minute that passed. Looking out of
the window and seeing the lights of the city made me so excited and energized. All I really wanted to do was jump out of the car and walk around
in the streets of Portland. Become one of those young adult "hipsters" who were just living their life while also being vegan and liberal and against
animal cruelty and owning large glasses and beanies and riding their bikes everywhere. Portland was known to be the creator and birthplace of the
hipster and this was something that I wanted for myself later in life, I was sure of it.
Day one was to travel to a small small town on the outskirts of Portland to see my grandma Barb and grandpa Bob. The town had a population of
approximately 500 and there were at least six churches. One on every block. My grandma 's house was dainty and dated but her yard was huge and
included a walking

Adrian Piper
Born on September 20, 1928 in New York City, Adrian Piper is an American conceptual artist and analytical philosopher. Her work addresses race,
gender, sexuality, and ostracism in the United States. She has produced an impressive body of work spanning over a period of thirty years.
Although many critics believe her work depicts her autobiography, she states it is only very personal to her. She does uses her experiences and racial
issues as raw material for her artwork. Because she was raised in an upper–class black family and attended a pre–dominantly wealthy, white private
school, she generates work that displays how others and herself are viewed as light–skinned blacks who can pass a white. In addition, in the 1960s and
1970s there was an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One work is "The Mythic Being" series, and a fascinating collection of pieces that Piper created. She started it in 1973, where she addressed 1970
stereotypes of a Black Male. She dressed herself in an Afro wig and mustache, and performed in public, where she demonstrated a "third world,
working class, overly hostile, black male" (Bowles 5). There are ten pieces in which she uses black and white photographs, ink, tempera, and felt–tip
pens. She is the performer or character in the pieces dressed as a man. She usually includes a thought bubble, in which she writes sentences such as,
"I insist that from the fact of my appearance you jumped to the wrong conclusion, as you always do. You instinctively perceive me as the enemy, and
nothing I say or do is sufficient to change that. You punish me for how I look, when that is both irrelevant and out of control" (Bowles 2). Another
piece says, "I embody everything you most hate and fear" (Bowles 6). She depicts a stereotypical figure who "whites [fear] meeting and whom
middle–class blacks did not want to be compared with" and states that it's an "unspoken racist ideology that casts blackness as masculine, heterosexual,
and menial" (Bowles 6). Piper's work uses what she

Childhood In My Childhood
The time of pure innocence in other words, childhood. When I visualize my childhood, I can hear faint laughter in the distance and I feel serenity
wash over me. Moments of memories flash through my eyes like a movie, I can still feel the swelling happiness that grew within my chest. The
smell of "outside" that I wore as a perfume. Imagination taking me away to the vast open oceans on a huge pirate ship as I sword fought my
opponent inevitably making him walk the plank, or slipping through an obstacle of lasers that I need to get past in order to complete my top secret
mission. Living in my house that is outlined in chalk on the driveway and pretending to be an adult, or at least what I thought being an adult is. My
biggest protector against evil monsters that lurked in the darkness is my brave and noble teddy bear, he is so intimidating that every monster
cowered in his presence. I remember when I fell asleep in the car after a very eventful night only to magically wake up in my bed snuggled in my
blanket. I remember being so excited for what tomorrow may bring that I couldn't sleep. The scent of peppermint and pine tree drifted all over the
house. Bright lights covered houses and trees, the feeling of jolly strong enough to grace everyone with the feeling. The whole house would help
decorate the tree and whatever other decorations my mom would want to be put up, as she took occasional photos. The weather is my all–time favorite,
cold enough that it sent nice chills

Five Flavors of Dumb by: Antony John
I just recently finished reading Five Flavors of Dumb by: Antony John. John's novel is a realistic fiction book that is about a girl finally finding out
who she really is and what she 's really made of. Despite the fact that Piper, the main protagonist, is deaf, she never gives up on what she believes in.
The novel mainly focuses on the problems that a deaf Piper faces while trying to manage a rock band. Not only does the story project her problem
dealing with the band, Dumb, but it also shows the challenges she has to face at home. Five Flavors of Dumb displays Piper's struggles with her family
in a great way. Piper and her baby sister, Grace, are the only ones who are deaf in their family until her parents give Grace an expensive... Show more

I guess what all these characters have in common is that they were all real and sincere and that you could find these traits and stories in everyday
people. "Don't worry about wanting to change; start worrying when you don't feel like changing anymore. And in the meantime, enjoy every
version of yourself you ever meet, because not everybody who discovers their true identity likes what they find." This has to be my most favorite
quote that I 've seen in a novel before. It was just so profound and speaks to everyone that I couldn 't help but like it. To me, it means that no matter
what you'll change and that you should enjoy these changes in yourself because sooner or later you'll have to stop, and you may not like the way
you end up. Five Flavors of Dumb is one of the greatest books I 've read; probably in my top five. It 's interesting to see music through a deaf
person. Like for instance, how she has to feel the beat of the music or how she has to read their lips to know what they are saying is quite cool. I
liked how John was able to create writing that makes you feel like you are there with the characters experiencing all their problems and success. John
made this story not seem like another boring coming of age story but a unique one with an amazing plot and characters with great back stories. After
reading Five Flavors of Dumb, it

The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind Essay
In the story "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" the author and I will prove how hard work is the key to success. Picture a boy going to school
late everyday, and rarely ever doing his homework, but still gets A's and B's because he is smart. However, then you have a boy that gets to school
everyday on time and if he almosts misses the bus, he runs. The boy always does his homework and puts full effort into school but gets C's. Who
would you think would be more successful in life? I would say the C student because he puts hard work and effort in. William and his family are
very hard working, and although they may not have everything that others have but they work with what they have. William is a hard worker in
so many ways. He wants the best for his family. William is very intelligent however for a while he was not able to go to school due to his family's
financial problems but he still manages to go to the library, read books and discover what he likes. In the story it quotes "Perhaps reading could keep
my brain from getting soft while being a dropout." William constantly goes to the library and reads a variety of different books that he finds
interesting. He was really interested in physics and the different concepts and theories that it involves. He was really fascinated by a chapter that had to

How Sports Can Help Bring Together Diverse Groups Of People
As a theater artist, I've never had time for sports. I looked at the world and it's people through the eyes of a Shakespeare geek, and thought throwing
around a ball and cheering for people wearing certain colors was a waste of time. Never in my wildest dreams would I think of giving football the time
of day, but that was before I became a mascot. By some kind of luck and desperation for a job I have ended up as the Piper: the red and grey sports
mascot of Hamline. Through this job I have come to see how sports can help bring together diverse groups of people, and inspire the spectators to be
their best selves. When I went to bed the night before my very first football game, I was nervous and excited. I was about to become a part of
something which I had no knowledge of. When I originally applied to be the piper had no idea what the job would detail, I just needed the money.
I was homeschooled for all of middle school and high school and had never seen a football game before in my life, even on TV. I was surprised, but
very pleased, that I even got the job. As I fell asleep, I was anxiously anticipating becoming a part of something new. I should have expected that
something would go wrong. I woke up at 12:30pm on the day of the game. I was supposed to be present and ready to don my costume a half an hour
prior, according to the vast amount of messages that cluttered my phone's lockscreen. I spent the next 20 minutes in traffic convincing myself that I

The Impact of Corporate Governance on Firm Performance in...
Introduction Corporate governance is a field in economics that investigates how to secure/motivate efficient management of corporations by the use of
incentive mechanisms, such as contracts, organizational designs and legislation. This is often limited to the question of improving financial
performance, for example, how the corporate owners can secure/motivate that the corporate managers will deliver a competitive rate of return.
(Mathiesen, 2002). Another definition is "Corporate Governance is concerned with holding the balance between economic and social goals and
between individual and communal goals. The corporate governance framework is there to encourage the efficient use of resources and equally to

Chhaochharia and Grinstein (2007) looked at the impact of the 2002 governance rules established by the Sarbanes–Oxley Act on firm value. They
found that less compliant firms earn positive abnormal returns compared to more compliant firms. They also found that less compliant large firms earn
positive abnormal returns but less compliant small firms earn negative abnormal returns. Bhagat and Bolton (2008) examined the relationship between
corporate governance and performance, and found that better corporate governance, board members' stock ownership, and CEO–Chair separation are
positively related to operating performance. They also found that the probability of management turnover is positively related to board members' stock
ownership and board independence when firms perform poorly. Patibandla (2006) examined the ownership structure and firm performance on Indian
firms by separating large investors into private foreignin stitutional investors and government–owned local financial institutions. Patibandla found a
positive relationship between private foreign institutional investors and firm profitability and a negative relationship between government–owned local
financial institutions and firm profitability. Aims & Objectives of Research The aim of this investigation is to make a research on the impact of
corporate governance on the performance of firms in Mauritius. The research is going to see the

Most Powerful Weapon Ever Created By Austin Perkins
Austin Perkins Ever since man has come into existence we have killed with rocks, spears, clubs, knifes, swords, arrows, cannons, guns and,
unfortunately, bombs. In 2077 man unleashed the full force of the most powerful weapon ever created, a hydrogen bomb nicknamed the Tsar Bomba,
a hydrogen bomb with 50 megatons of explosive power. 1 megaton is equal to a million tons of TNT; the "LittleBoy" that was dropped on Hiroshima
on August 6, 1945 was only a mere .02. The fallout of such a weapon nearly destroyed the world we lived in, but didn't end it. In the beginning,
thousands were able to survive by relocating to underground shelters called vaults. When they finally came out, there was nothing but the
apocalyptic wastes for them to see. Buildings were demolished, the landscape was scorched, the water was undrinkable, and the creatures were
unholy. When Hell's gates opened there was one vault, however, that kept its gates closed. Vault 101 kept its giant metal door closed and never let
anyone in or out. Inside were the inhabitants who were all looked over by an Overseer, who could be a mayor in some vaults or a god in others.
They control everything in the vaults from what foods you eat to what you will do in the future. Everyone knows each other in a vault and everyone
has a role to play, whether that role is a doctor or a tattoo artist. The one thing they all have in common is that they were born in the vault, lived in the
vault, and eventually will die in the vault. That

Penelope Charmer Research Paper
Penelope Charmer comes from a family of sorceresses. Her family was not born, but created. Penelope's mother, Melissa Charmer, crafted her
from the blood of a ogre, the right side of harpie, the teeth of a vampire , and the flesh of a dragon. Her mother was made from the clouds in the
sky, the light of the sun, and the dirt of the Earth.Penelope has cousin's that are vampires, ogres, harpies, and charnel sprites. Charnel sprites are
basically helpers for ghosts, and harpies have the head and chest of a woman, the rest of their body is a bird. Ogres and vampires aren't that
uncommon, ogres large ugly beasts, and vampires blood–drinking people. She may have had hideous cousins (most of them), but in her case, she

Charmed: Feminist Theory of Witchcraft and Sisterhood
On the surface of the American television series Charmed is the story of three ideal sisters with ideal lives. Piper, Phoebe andPrue Halliwell are wives
with children and careers, and all three of them are witches–the charmed ones–whose powers with magic are stronger when they work together.
Feminist theory is inscribed in the narrative world of these three sisters. As female leads, they are portrayed as "transcending the typical media
boundaries of females." (The Artifice). Piper, Phoebe and Prue all challenge the various stereotypes previously attached to the portrayal of women in
narratives.

The Avatars, for example, all magical creatures who once were rulers of the entire world. Upon their demise, their power was tested, and a potion
was created which was so powerful that it was the only thing in the world that could kill an Avatar. Like the sisterhood of Phoebe, Piper and Prue, if
an Avatar dies it affects all of them, and eventually exposes their weaknesses individually and as a group.
The magical creatures that exist in Charmed are very different from the Avatars. It is understood whether a magical creature is good or bad in their
intentions and in their nature; but this is not the case for the Avatar collective. They are on their own agenda. They never claim to be good or bad.
Unlike the sisters, the Avatars are not looking to save innocent lives or fulfill prophecies–they actually have no agenda at all. Ultimately, their goal is to
rule the world however they want to. To them, the only thing that mattered was attaining a perfect world with no intentions of being good or evil. They
linger and they wait patiently. Although they are persistent, they are not intrusive on others, instead they will only appear and act whenever someone is
ready for them and a Utopian world order.
The dynamics in the series are highly political and they represent real world constructs. They raise a question of immortality and humanity and breaks
many moral codes. The series reveals the complications of earthly power to its audience and it resolves these by diminishing the

Which Art Historical Method I Would Use: The Ideas of...
As an aspiring art historian who has been exposed to a variety of diverse methods for analyzing art, there are two techniques in particular that stand
prominent amidst the others: the ideas of Erwin Panofsky and Adrian Piper. It is not invalid to say that both art historians share a similar view of
interpreting works of art, however, they also manage to complement one another perfectly. An integration of both Piper and Panofsky's points of view
would result in an impeccable approach to delving into the minds of the artists and determining the significance of the works of art that they constructed.
Erwin Panofsky introduced and labeled a tripartite structure of analyzing art; he argued that practicing this tripartite method would produce ... Show

By immersing oneself in material of the period, one is then able to recognize and trace connections, therefore revealing the intrinsic meaning of the
painting. Defending Erwin Panofsky's method to those who have doubts seems as though it should be nonsensical, because it is clearly the path that art
historians must take. One simply cannot eliminate his method while simultaneously retaining the title of art historian. The omission of Panofsky's
ideas transforms art history into art appreciation. By use of what other method should one endeavor to find the meaning of a work of art if not through
the art's contemporary documents and artifacts? We cannot afford to ignore the clues that may provide us with an idea of the culture that surrounded
the work of art–they are all we have. While approaching artifacts as a tool to explain the past to us, there will always be doubts of accuracy, however,
until someone develops time travel, said artifacts are the most solid evidence in our possession. The moment we stop attempting to reveal what the
artist was saying is the moment we do ourselves, as well as these great artists, a tremendous disservice. In Adrian

Figurative Language Used In The Beauty Poem Analysis
5. There are many poetic devices and figurative language used in both poems. In the innocence poem the Nurse's song we see a metaphor when the
nurse says, "My heart is at rest within my breast", meaning that the nurse is content and filled with peace and joy while watching the children at play.
Imagery and symbolism is used in both poems with the color green which associates with growth, fertility and spring. (Represent places of play and
freedom) Also, in the Innocence poem, imagery is used when said, "Besides in the sky, the little birds fly and the hills are all covered with sheep".
These creatures are gentle just like the children are and the birds in particular are symbolic of freedom. In the experience poem the word "night",
metaphorically represents danger and sadness. (completely opposite of the innocence where light was used to positively portray the children). In the
experience poem the Nanny makes a metaphor when she says, "My face turns green and pale", the notes on the back of the book explain how this
means that the Nurse is a sex starved spinster. Meaning that she is a woman who did not experience a happy youth, and who is sick for the longings of
experience, and who is maybe jealous of the children. The poetic devices and figurative language impact the whole meaning of the poem completely,
because without the multiple metaphors and imagery used I would of never of guessed that the Nurses green and pale face meant what it meant. (made
the poems come together

The Hustler Analysis
Why did Sarah Packard kill herself? In the film, The Hustler, written by Walter Tevis, it's about a man named Eddie Felson who is a pool hustler.
He loses a pool game to Minnesota Fats, which messes up his reputation as a pool player and then falls in love with an alcoholic drinker named
Sarah Parkard. This paper should focus on what led to Sarah Parkard to killing herself. The film starts off by Eddie traveling to New York to compete
with the pool great Minnesota Fats. After a long pool session, Minnesota Fats beats Felson. After losing Eddie can't find anyone to play against him.
This is where Piper Laurie's character Sarah Packard comes in. Presented to viewers and to Eddie as a loner and a drinker, Sarah desperately wants
to be loved, telling Eddie at one point that she needs to hear those words from him, "... and if you ever say them, I'll never let you take them back".
By insinuating, Eddie does not say, "I love you", to Sarah until after she kills herself in Bert's hotel bathroom, an act she takes after writing,
"Perverted", "Twisted", and "Crippled" on the mirror in lipstick.
Those three words reflect her self–image as much as how she sees Bert and Eddie in that moment. Walking with a pronounced limp, Sarah lives with
the idea of "crippled" and "twisted" every day, but she also sees herself as a drunk and as, basically, a prostitute, telling Eddie at one point that she owes
her livelihood to the last "rich man" she dated. She also sees herself as a writer who

This paper explores an advertisement found in March 2015 edition of Nylon Guys magazine (page 13), for denim apparel falling under the Buffalo
David Bitton (BDB) brand. In the advertisement, Adrian Grenier, a celebrity best known for his lead role in the TV series Entourage, endorses BDB's
denim apparel, wearing their jeans and a denim jacket. BDB was founded in 1985 in Montreal and today it is an industry leader offering denim clothing
in 18 countries and spanning 3000 locations throughout the world. In North America the brand can be found in many department stores, including the
Hudson's bay company, Bloomingdales and Macy's. The brand appeals to fashion savvy men and women aged 18– 34 who are innovators seeking
effortless style as well as substance. Given this orientation, Grenier is an ideal celebrity for an advertising endorsement. The American comedy–drama
television series Entourage, which concluded in 2011 after eight seasons, chronicles Grenier as Vincent Chase as he ventures into Los Angeles
California as an enviable celebrity along with some of his childhood friends. The role Grenier plays is quite fitting as he exudes laid back
confidence as a ladies man and the clear leader of his friend group. Interestingly, not only is Grenier a celebrity for playing Vincent Chase, but the
character Vincent Chase within the show is a celebrity looking for movie roles. Grenier thereby owns two separate layers of celebrity image by virtue
of one character. In the black

Love has been called "you" and "me" referring to the two lovers (line 17). Personification of love has given it a significant presence. Love makes a
lover feel imprisoned in the jail of love (line 18). In other words, love keeps you go back to your lover again and again. Even when the two lovers are
physically separated from each other, they can feel the presence of love in their lives (line 19). The feeling of love is so great that it doesn't know
any bounds. It transcends all boundaries of physical existence and makes the person feel the presence of their beloved even they are not close to them.

Rhetorical Devices In The Anatomy Of Violence
Throughout this day in age, all over several media outlets, different acts of crime are shown on display for anyone, of all ages, to review. One thing
that lacks from the plentiful amounts of these reports on various atrocities, ranging from theft to cold–blood murder, is a motive. However, what if a
motive does not play a role in a crime? Yes, there a bounteous reasons as to why some commit crimes, but something may possibly lay deeper within
the mind that one cannot see without a series of invasive research of psychological and neurological testing. Within his findings, documented in The
Anatomy of Violence, Adrian Raine takes a look into the anatomical and biological roots as to why people execute felonies; wanting readers to gain and

To show the various scenarios, Raine uses rhetorical devices such as: cause/effect, exemplification, and analysis. Without using cause and effect, Raine
cannot effectively showcase how certain people turn into criminals. Within A Recipe for Violence, Raine takes discrete variables and establishes how
seemingly harmless events have unexpected results. The winter of 1994–1995, known as the Dutch Hunger Winter, result in many eating less than
1,000 kilocalories a day(206). Though the Dutch were able to bounce back after the famine, the then pregnant women would give birth to a generation
of antisocial soldiers. Once the boys turn eighteen, they undergo a military psychiatric baseline test. "A lack of iron, zinc, protein, riboflavin, and
omega–3 in our diets may dump some some of us into the violence trash bin,"(207). Raine's research, goes on to provide various effects from an
effect, in this case famine. As a result, those who are deficient in their key vitamins and nutrients(before and after birth) tend to acquire preeminent
chances of aggressiveness, delinquency, and hyperactivity(209). With every chapter, Raine includes a variety of instances to explain what the
psychological effects on the human brian. For one example Raine, takes a look into the 'killer gene', Raine tells of an adopted boy, who at the age of
two, starts to behave rather badly. By the age of ten, Jeffrey Landrigan, the boy, already develops a drinking problem. "He skipped school, abused
drugs, stole cars, and spent time in detention centers... when asked to be the godfather of his friends soon–to–be child. Jeffrey's response? Stabbed his
friend to death,"(37). Later on, while on death row, he met his father who, at the time, is also on death row.

The Piper Alpha disaster led to the strike action of the offshore oil workers, they wanted better health and safety conditions in the oil industry, and in
the 1989 the formation of the Offshore Industry Liaison Committee (OILC) took place. (ref3)
After the public inquiry, Peter Fraser, who was the Lord Advocate at the time, decided in July 1991, that "there was insufficient evidence to convict the
companies and individuals in a criminal court" (Gavin Cleland). Occidental was never prosecuted.
Mr Gavin Cleland, whose son Robert was killed in the Piper Alpha accident, became activist and safety campaigner. He united families shortly after the

Supernatural Show Research Paper
It's late at night and you are up with your friends telling scary ghost stories or daring them to do the classic game Bloody Mary. Eventually the fun
ends sending you back into reality until you turn on one of the best supernatural shows or movies out there escaping once more. Supernatural shows
and movies are all good , but the best share similar qualities.
In order for a supernatural show to be the best it needs to have some form of forbidden love. One example of this is in The Vampire Diariesbetween
two characters, Elena Gilbert and Stefan Salvatore. Stefan is a vampire through the show and soon falls in love with Elena who is a human. A human

In the show charmed Piper one of the three sisters and her husband who is a whitelighters child Wyatt Halliwell soon develops powers out of the

Supernatural. Sam Winchester was given blood from a demon when he was a baby , and now years later he begins to crave demon blood. Soon
Sam finds out when he drinks the blood from a demon he gets the ability to pull demons out of human bodies with just his mind and hands. This

The Importance Of Art
Art has many functions, it can illustrate real life events and people, it can be created for aesthetic purposes, and it can be expressive. Artists have
often broken away from the traditional approach to art making, where they laboured over art commissioned by the wealthy, and although artist still
may work under commission, they also create art for their own exploration with their own intentions and purpose. According to Jacques RanciГЁre,
artists play a larger role in the community, or at least they ought to. He believes artists should use their media as a platform to take charge. Jacques
RanciГЁre argues that "artistic practices are ways of doing and making that intervene in the general distribution of these ways of doing and making as
well as in the relationships they maintain to models of being and forms of visibility" (p. 403). All art has the capability to be political, and RanciГЁre
argues artists ought to disrupt the distribution of the sensible, and they can do so through visual activism. An example of an artist who engages in such
practices is Adrian Piper, with her recent artwork Imagine (Trayvon Martin) in 2013 (see fig. 1). Figure 1. Digital image, Adrian Piper, Imagine

Abstract
This research report is about the Piper Alpha Disaster that happened in 1988. Being one of the major oil production oil–rig in the UK, the accident that
took place more than 20 years ago caught the attention of many, especially those in the field. The happening was largely due to the complacency of the
supervisors as well as the safety measures of the management. Using the internet, academic journals and textbooks available, the research was
conducted by referring to various sources of information regarding the incident. After the explosion there are many new prevention steps taken in this
field of industry as well as new managing system of the offshore regulatory control.
1. Introduction
1.1 Background
The Piper Alpha ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The offshore oil and gas was a very new industry introduced to the United Kingdom very briefly 30 years ago. The naГЇve government was seduced by
the very promising reward of the industry, knowing that it'll be high risk. The management disregarded adherence to certain safety rules. There were
regulations, but enforcement was not there. The nation and corporate pride rendered everything in disaster.
2.1.2 Structure and Function
A large fixed platform, Piper Alpha was situated on the Piper oilfield, approximately 120 miles (193 km) northeast of Aberdeen in 474 feet (144 m) of
water, and comprised four modules separated by firewalls. The platform was constructed by McDermott Engineering at Ardersier and UIE at
Cherbourg, with the sections united at Ardersier before tow out during 1975, with production commencing in late 1976 (Drysdale &
Slyvester–Evans, 1998). The west and east elevation of the topsides of the Piper Alpha platform are as shown in figures 2 and 3. Module A, the
wellhead module was considered to be the most hazardous were arranged so to provide a maximum separation with module D, which contain various
utilities and also the accommodation deck above. Module comprises of 36 wellhead which is used to control the flow of hydrocarbons and water from
the well.

Piper Alpha Disaster
Abstract
Piper Alpha was operated by Occidental Petroleum. The platform began its production in 1976, first as an oil production and then later converted to
oil and gas production. In the night of July 6th 1988, the platform was engulfed in a catastrophic fire, which caused the death of 167 men and cost
billions of dollars in property damage. There are only 61 survivors who saved their lives by jump off the platform in to the sea. At the time of the
disaster, the Piper Alpha disaster was the worst offshore disaster in terms of live lost and industry impact. There are two main factors that lead to the
disaster, which are human factor and the design and process factor. Lord Cullen has made some recommendations on improvements and... Show more

After few hours, the night shift workers took over from the morning shift workers, the primary condensate pump failed. None of the night shift
workers were aware that a crucial part of the pump had been removed and decided to start the backup pump. Gas escaped from the hole left by the
valve which was not closed tightly.
Gas audibly leaked out at high pressure, ignited and exploded and produces a catastrophic fire which blown through the fire walls. The fire from the
explosion had destroyed some of the oil lines and soon larger quantities of stored oil were burning out of control. An automatic system, which has been
designed to spray water on such fire, had been turned off. Moreover, the accommodations were design in such a way that not smoke–proofed.
Some of the workers realized that the only way to survive would be by jumping in to the sea and hoping to be rescued by boat. Only 61 men were
survived, but most of them died due to suffocated carbon monoxide and fumes in the accommodations area on the Piper Alpha platform.
2.4 The purpose of this report
The purpose of the report is to examine the objectives and structures of the management of Piper Alpha platform for the oil and gas production industry
in the North Sea, United Kingdom. Other than to examine the objectives and structures of the management of Piper Alpha, this report also is written to

The world was so big to a boy who had lived in a small town called Waterfront for his whole life. It was a silly name for a place that had no water
around for miles though. It was set on a plateau at least a mile from the ground and surrounded by desert. There were highways jutting out of either
side of the town as if the plateau had lifted out of the ground causing the road to break apart. The rest of the road at the bottom went as far as the
eye could see. No one had ever seen a vehicle on the roads. The only way up to the town was by plane or airlift, but no one had ever left, and no one
ever came. Elijah was the only kid in Waterfront. His parents barely knew he existed and were always working in the only skyscraper in town.
There was military everywhere as if they were looking for something. Elijah got the impression that that thing was him. When Elijah saw them he
would run home, which felt good to him. His coffee–colored hair would flow in the wind as ran. His long legs carrying him home. He would hear
yelling behind him sometimes like they were chasing him. Elijah would run inside, to the cellar door, which was covered by the ugliest carpet on
Earth. It would seem the most two honored people in the town would have a better house, but the house wasn't like that. His home looked like the
remains of a giant sardine can that a car had ran over. He pulled up the carpet, and cracked open the cellar. He climbed slowly and quietly down. Then
Elijah stopped to listen.

"It better not be any other bitches' clothes either," I mumbled under my breath, to which he didn't hear; thank God. I looked around the room,

Social Context of 16th–century Italian Madrigals
In the 16th–century, Italy influenced the Renaissance music throughout Western Europe.

Compare and Contrast the Chernobyl and Piper Alpha Case Studies
Introduction:
Chernobyl and Piper Alpha Case studies are two of the engineering failures that has happened in the world. The world worst civilian disaster happened
when the Chernobyl nuclear power explode in soviet plant located in Ukraine. Soviet nuclear plant was one of the most advanced facilities that
included four reactors. The Chernobyl accident happened on 26 April 1986 when the technician wanted to test the backup cooling system for the
reactor number four without following the safety procedure. Due to explosion in reactor number four, eight tons of radioactive debris spread into the
atmosphere that caused 115000 people to evacuate from 30 kilometers around the area. As a result of this explosion, thirty–one of the plant personnel
and the initial fire workers who involved in extinguishing the fire were died shortly from acute radiation sickness. The main issue causes Chernobyl
disaster is complex since some people blame the Chernobyl tragedy on the power plant operator, the other blame on the design of the reactor itself
(UNSCEAR, 2008).
Piper Alpha platform explosion and massive fire happened on July 6th, 1988 and located on the North Sea offshore. This disaster was also one of the
most significant disaster in human history and the history of the North Sea. In this incident 167 people killed and most of the properties were

'The Breakers. Why?' Dan Russell was snarling.
The voice echoed in my head. The Breakers, Breakers, Breakers. It kept repeating again and again in my head. I couldn't make it stop. Yes, the

This enhancement in the education and training of employees can be documented by the human resources department and also quarterly reviews of

incident in which recently took place with Mayor Bowser includes her new plans to shut down a previous homeless shelter at DC General within a

Carrie White Compare And Contrast
Contrasting the house De Palma made into an uncanny character of its own, this house is nice–looking and spacious; its yard and street are fertile and
well–maintained; the walls appear freshly painted and light–colored; the furniture is pleasingly organized and equipped for company; and
condemnatory male religious icons don't border the female residents and shimmer down at them as they did in the previous version. Although some of
the events that take place in the household are far from normal, the film gives no indication that Carrie is not in a healthy environment. By highlighting
the normality of Carrie's living conditions the director removes the focus off of the mother–daughter relations.
In the original version, there was a sense of self–hatred, but in the latest version, that self–hatred is magnified. Margaret White's self–harm in the

of Ripken's childhood and he was lucky enough to have his father be the head coach of some of his baseball teams. Ripken's junior year consists of
starting his first year in cross country. He had wanted to join in the beginning of his High School career and is glad he got the chance to run this
year because of the love he has gained for the sport. Cross country is of significance to Ripken because of the hard work and effort he has to put
into the sport. In return the sport has given Ripken a feeling of reward because of running, a sense of success and being proud accomplishing a
challenge. Another important sport that Ripken has obtained from would be tennis. He was able to join his freshman year of High School, and from
then on to the present junior year. During tennis, Ripken has expanded his circle of friends and built onto his teamwork skills. Tennis is one part of
school Ripken has looked forward to because of his great team, all the fun the sport provides, and believes it has been the best part of High School.
Besides school related interests, Ripken also

Multipurpose House Incident
On September 13, 2015 I Tranessa Hanson was a witness of an incident that took place at PSTA. The incident took place in the multipurpose room.
The second large bulb in the row closest to the bay doors had caught fire. I became aware of the bulb being on fire around 9:20 a.m., by an instructor
who was teaching a class, in classroom 5, which is located in the multipurpose room. The instructor goes by the name of Sam. Sam came to the range
booth and brought to my attention what was occurring in the multipurpose room. As he escorted me the multipurpose room he explained what he had
seen occurring with the bulb. He stated, "the bulb went out and it on fire" he pointed out which bulb he was describing. I examined the bulb with my
sight and for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sam also monitored the state of the bulb, as I went to vacate the premises and had everyone exit through the main entrance. I call 911 around 9:28 a.m.
giving the order to the operator to send the fire department, along with providing the operator with full description of what was occurring. After
making sure everyone was out of the building I went back into the multipurpose. Upon entering the multipurpose room I found that the whole bulb had
fallen to the ground in flames and instructor Yarbaugh was putting the fire out with the fire extinguisher, while instructor Sam was opening the bay
door, while that was happing the fire department had arrived shortly after putting the fire out. The fire department turned the H1 electrical unit power
off to prevent any further electrical fire. The fire fighters that was on the scene gave the orders to leave the power off until a licensed electrician
comes and checks out the electrical unit. The electrician arrived about 11 a.m., he was able to single out that particular unit the bulb was receiving
power from, and eliminated the power from that unit. The electrician then restored the power to the rest of the build around 11:30 am which allowed
the companies to reenter the facility allowing them to proceed with their

Ethics And Purpose Of Corporate Governance
1.What is Ethics? Originating from the Ancient Greek word 'ethikos' deriving itself from 'ethos' meaning 'belief', 'customs', 'habits', the concept of
ethics determines good and/or bad practices and essentially refers to a code of conduct or a set of moral principles and standards governing a group or
an individual's behaviour and/or activity. It can be defined as: "a social, religious, or civil code of behaviour considered correct, especially that of a
particular group, profession, or individual" – Collins dictionary 2.What is Law? Aristotle stated that "Law is order, and good law is good order"
(Aristotle, Politics) Historically, philosophers and intellectuals over centuries have struggled with a set definition of what law is. When... Show more

What is corporate strategy? "Corporate strategy is a complete plan of action encompassing all the activities and functions performed by business
firms. The plan covers all the objectives of the company related to the allocation of resources and coordination among different levels." Corporate
Strategy as a framework began to be developed in the 60's and the 70's where for the first–time companies had to think in a systematic and integrated
way about their costs, competitors and their customers. In the mid 80's and beginning of 90's, corporate strategy started to focus on process
engineering, re–engineering, thinking more systematically about world–wide expansion and therefore globalisation but at the same time it also focused
on a more granular aspect and migrated down to the industry by industry. Nowadays, corporate strategy is about participating in different business units
and is defined as a process of diversification across structurally different industries. It is about participating in multiple businesses grouped under a
corporate parent and creating common strategic unifying

Self-Hatred In Carrie White
Carrie's mom in the 2013 film is more interested in harming herself than harming Carrie White. In the original version there was a sense of self–hatred,
but in the latest version that self–hatred is magnified. Margaret White's self–harm in the original version seemed like a ploy to increase the fear of her
daughter. However, in Pierce's version anytime she is on screen in the new edition it raises her undisclosed infatuation with self–harm. In this film, it is
apparent that a rape caused her unyielding disgust of sex. This makes her mother less of an antagonist and more of a victim to sufferings rather than a
catalyst. At the beginning of the film, Margaret is in the midst of giving birth, completely alone, and ignorant of how babies are made.... Show more

If she actually wanted to help, she could have spoken to her instead of convincing her boyfriend to be Carrie's date to the prom. Sue could have
welcomed Carrie into her inner circle and show the other girls that Carrie isn't too bad after all. However, Sue decides to go behind her back to
avoid being seen with Carrie. The horrific massacre that takes place in both of the films could have been avoided if Sue befriended Carrie. Which
still makes the audience question whether Sue is doing this to be friendly or if she is doing this to clear her guilty conscience. Consequently, this is the
reason why Sue in Brian De Palma's version is punished at the end of the film. After the massacre and Carrie White's death Sue is left traumatized.
In the closing scene, Sue is the only one to escape the burning school. She envisions that she's placing flowers on the burnt out spot where Carrie's
house stood. Unexpectedly, a bloody hand reaches up through the ground and snatches her wrist. Sue wakes up screaming in her mother's arms.
Although Sue considered herself doing a good deed, she was still punished because her intentions weren't as genuine as she would have liked to
think. However, when Carrie White murders Miss Collins, the only person that was nice to her, on the surface it seems a bit unnecessary. Carrie
White murders a lot of people in Brian De Palma's version that seems a bit excessive. The director wasn't interested in

The Day Of Colorado For Spring Break

  • 1. The Day Of Colorado For Spring Break Adrian Monk, from the wonderful usa television series Monk, only drinks Sierra Springs bottled water. I once came across a magnificent bottle of Sierra springs while traveling the lands of Oregon, United States, only to find out that some repulsive human being thought it necessary to relieve themselves in the bottle. Yes, you heard me. Adrian Monks favorite water was not, in fact, water but the urine of a dirty, dirty specimen. I didn't let this ruin my trip, though. This spring break was on that I would remember for a long time. When my parents told me that we would be going to Oregon for spring break, I was super excited because I had never been on a plane, let alone to a state more foreign than Minnesota. Of course other kids in my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Take off was a whirlwind of emotions and the flight was a bumpy hour. Every time the plane moved it created a tickle belly sensation that made me laugh out loud almost the entire ride. People were most likely annoyed with me but this was the most tickle bellies I'd received in my entire life. What a time to be alive. Daylight slowly escaped us as we finally arrived in Portland. Rental car, two parents who didn't know where they were going and three kids who were worn out and were falling asleep in the very spot they stood. I'm sure the frustration was rising with each minute that passed. Looking out of the window and seeing the lights of the city made me so excited and energized. All I really wanted to do was jump out of the car and walk around in the streets of Portland. Become one of those young adult "hipsters" who were just living their life while also being vegan and liberal and against animal cruelty and owning large glasses and beanies and riding their bikes everywhere. Portland was known to be the creator and birthplace of the hipster and this was something that I wanted for myself later in life, I was sure of it. Day one was to travel to a small small town on the outskirts of Portland to see my grandma Barb and grandpa Bob. The town had a population of approximately 500 and there were at least six churches. One on every block. My grandma 's house was dainty and dated but her yard was huge and included a walking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Adrian Piper Born on September 20, 1928 in New York City, Adrian Piper is an American conceptual artist and analytical philosopher. Her work addresses race, gender, sexuality, and ostracism in the United States. She has produced an impressive body of work spanning over a period of thirty years. Although many critics believe her work depicts her autobiography, she states it is only very personal to her. She does uses her experiences and racial issues as raw material for her artwork. Because she was raised in an upper–class black family and attended a pre–dominantly wealthy, white private school, she generates work that displays how others and herself are viewed as light–skinned blacks who can pass a white. In addition, in the 1960s and 1970s there was an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One work is "The Mythic Being" series, and a fascinating collection of pieces that Piper created. She started it in 1973, where she addressed 1970 stereotypes of a Black Male. She dressed herself in an Afro wig and mustache, and performed in public, where she demonstrated a "third world, working class, overly hostile, black male" (Bowles 5). There are ten pieces in which she uses black and white photographs, ink, tempera, and felt–tip pens. She is the performer or character in the pieces dressed as a man. She usually includes a thought bubble, in which she writes sentences such as, "I insist that from the fact of my appearance you jumped to the wrong conclusion, as you always do. You instinctively perceive me as the enemy, and nothing I say or do is sufficient to change that. You punish me for how I look, when that is both irrelevant and out of control" (Bowles 2). Another piece says, "I embody everything you most hate and fear" (Bowles 6). She depicts a stereotypical figure who "whites [fear] meeting and whom middle–class blacks did not want to be compared with" and states that it's an "unspoken racist ideology that casts blackness as masculine, heterosexual, and menial" (Bowles 6). Moments of memories flash through my eyes like a movie, I can still feel the swelling happiness that grew within my chest. The smell of "outside" that I wore as a perfume. Imagination taking me away to the vast open oceans on a huge pirate ship as I sword fought my opponent inevitably making him walk the plank, or slipping through an obstacle of lasers that I need to get past in order to complete my top secret mission. My biggest protector against evil monsters that lurked in the darkness is my brave and noble teddy bear, he is so intimidating that every monster cowered in his presence. I remember when I fell asleep in the car after a very eventful night only to magically wake up in my bed snuggled in my blanket. I remember being so excited for what tomorrow may bring that I couldn't sleep. The scent of peppermint and pine tree drifted all over the house. Bright lights covered houses and trees, the feeling of jolly strong enough to grace everyone with the feeling. • 5. Five Flavors of Dumb by: Antony John I just recently finished reading Five Flavors of Dumb by: Antony John. John's novel is a realistic fiction book that is about a girl finally finding out who she really is and what she 's really made of. Despite the fact that Piper, the main protagonist, is deaf, she never gives up on what she believes in. The novel mainly focuses on the problems that a deaf Piper faces while trying to manage a rock band. Not only does the story project her problem dealing with the band, Dumb, but it also shows the challenges she has to face at home. Five Flavors of Dumb displays Piper's struggles with her family in a great way. Piper and her baby sister, Grace, are the only ones who are deaf in their family until her parents give Grace an expensive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I guess what all these characters have in common is that they were all real and sincere and that you could find these traits and stories in everyday people. "Don't worry about wanting to change; start worrying when you don't feel like changing anymore. And in the meantime, enjoy every version of yourself you ever meet, because not everybody who discovers their true identity likes what they find." This has to be my most favorite quote that I 've seen in a novel before. It was just so profound and speaks to everyone that I couldn 't help but like it. To me, it means that no matter what you'll change and that you should enjoy these changes in yourself because sooner or later you'll have to stop, and you may not like the way you end up. Five Flavors of Dumb is one of the greatest books I 've read; probably in my top five. It 's interesting to see music through a deaf person. Like for instance, how she has to feel the beat of the music or how she has to read their lips to know what they are saying is quite cool. I liked how John was able to create writing that makes you feel like you are there with the characters experiencing all their problems and success. John made this story not seem like another boring coming of age story but a unique one with an amazing plot and characters with great back stories. After reading Five Flavors of Dumb, it ... Picture a boy going to school late everyday, and rarely ever doing his homework, but still gets A's and B's because he is smart. • 7. How Sports Can Help Bring Together Diverse Groups Of People As a theater artist, I've never had time for sports. I looked at the world and it's people through the eyes of a Shakespeare geek, and thought throwing around a ball and cheering for people wearing certain colors was a waste of time. Never in my wildest dreams would I think of giving football the time of day, but that was before I became a mascot. By some kind of luck and desperation for a job I have ended up as the Piper: the red and grey sports mascot of Hamline. Most Powerful Weapon Ever Created By Austin Perkins Austin Perkins Ever since man has come into existence we have killed with rocks, spears, clubs, knifes, swords, arrows, cannons, guns and, unfortunately, bombs. In 2077 man unleashed the full force of the most powerful weapon ever created, a hydrogen bomb nicknamed the Tsar Bomba, a hydrogen bomb with 50 megatons of explosive power. 1 megaton is equal to a million tons of TNT; the "LittleBoy" that was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 was only a mere .02. The fallout of such a weapon nearly destroyed the world we lived in, but didn't end it. In the beginning, thousands were able to survive by relocating to underground shelters called vaults. When they finally came out, there was nothing but the apocalyptic wastes for them to see. Buildings were demolished, the landscape was scorched, the water was undrinkable, and the creatures were unholy. When Hell's gates opened there was one vault, however, that kept its gates closed. Vault 101 kept its giant metal door closed and never let anyone in or out. Inside were the inhabitants who were all looked over by an Overseer, who could be a mayor in some vaults or a god in others. They control everything in the vaults from what foods you eat to what you will do in the future. Like the sisterhood of Phoebe, Piper and Prue, if an Avatar dies it affects all of them, and eventually exposes their weaknesses individually and as a group. The magical creatures that exist in Charmed are very different from the Avatars. It is understood whether a magical creature is good or bad in their intentions and in their nature; but this is not the case for the Avatar collective. They are on their own agenda. They never claim to be good or bad. Unlike the sisters, the Avatars are not looking to save innocent lives or fulfill prophecies–they actually have no agenda at all. They linger and they wait patiently. Although they are persistent, they are not intrusive on others, instead they will only appear and act whenever someone is ready for them and a Utopian world order.

As an aspiring art historian who has been exposed to a variety of diverse methods for analyzing art, there are two techniques in particular that stand prominent amidst the others: the ideas of Erwin Panofsky and Adrian Piper. It is not invalid to say that both art historians share a similar view of interpreting works of art, however, they also manage to complement one another perfectly. An integration of both Piper and Panofsky's points of view would result in an impeccable approach to delving into the minds of the artists and determining the significance of the works of art that they constructed. Erwin Panofsky introduced and labeled a tripartite structure of analyzing art; he argued that practicing this tripartite method would produce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By immersing oneself in material of the period, one is then able to recognize and trace connections, therefore revealing the intrinsic meaning of the painting. Defending Erwin Panofsky's method to those who have doubts seems as though it should be nonsensical, because it is clearly the path that art historians must take. One simply cannot eliminate his method while simultaneously retaining the title of art historian. The omission of Panofsky's ideas transforms art history into art appreciation. By use of what other method should one endeavor to find the meaning of a work of art if not through the art's contemporary documents and artifacts? We cannot afford to ignore the clues that may provide us with an idea of the culture that surrounded the work of art–they are all we have. While approaching artifacts as a tool to explain the past to us, there will always be doubts of accuracy, however, until someone develops time travel, said artifacts are the most solid evidence in our possession. The moment we stop attempting to reveal what the artist was saying is the moment we do ourselves, as well as these great artists, a tremendous disservice. In Adrian ... In the innocence poem the Nurse's song we see a metaphor when the nurse says, "My heart is at rest within my breast", meaning that the nurse is content and filled with peace and joy while watching the children at play. Imagery and symbolism is used in both poems with the color green which associates with growth, fertility and spring. (Represent places of play and freedom) Also, in the Innocence poem, imagery is used when said, "Besides in the sky, the little birds fly and the hills are all covered with sheep". These creatures are gentle just like the children are and the birds in particular are symbolic of freedom. In the experience poem the word "night", metaphorically represents danger and sadness. (completely opposite of the innocence where light was used to positively portray the children). In the experience poem the Nanny makes a metaphor when she says, "My face turns green and pale", the notes on the back of the book explain how this means that the Nurse is a sex starved spinster. Meaning that she is a woman who did not experience a happy youth, and who is sick for the longings of experience, and who is maybe jealous of the children. The poetic devices and figurative language impact the whole meaning of the poem completely, because without the multiple metaphors and imagery used I would of never of guessed that the Nurses green and pale face meant what it meant. • 19. The Hustler Analysis Why did Sarah Packard kill herself? In the film, The Hustler, written by Walter Tevis, it's about a man named Eddie Felson who is a pool hustler. He loses a pool game to Minnesota Fats, which messes up his reputation as a pool player and then falls in love with an alcoholic drinker named Sarah Parkard. This paper should focus on what led to Sarah Parkard to killing herself. The film starts off by Eddie traveling to New York to compete with the pool great Minnesota Fats. After a long pool session, Minnesota Fats beats Felson. After losing Eddie can't find anyone to play against him. This is where Piper Laurie's character Sarah Packard comes in. Presented to viewers and to Eddie as a loner and a drinker, Sarah desperately wants to be loved, telling Eddie at one point that she needs to hear those words from him, "... and if you ever say them, I'll never let you take them back". By insinuating, Eddie does not say, "I love you", to Sarah until after she kills herself in Bert's hotel bathroom, an act she takes after writing, "Perverted", "Twisted", and "Crippled" on the mirror in lipstick. Those three words reflect her self–image as much as how she sees Bert and Eddie in that moment. Walking with a pronounced limp, Sarah lives with the idea of "crippled" and "twisted" every day, but she also sees herself as a drunk and as, basically, a prostitute, telling Eddie at one point that she owes her livelihood to the last "rich man" she dated. The American comedy–drama television series Entourage, which concluded in 2011 after eight seasons, chronicles Grenier as Vincent Chase as he ventures into Los Angeles California as an enviable celebrity along with some of his childhood friends. • 27. The Importance Of Art Art has many functions, it can illustrate real life events and people, it can be created for aesthetic purposes, and it can be expressive. Artists have often broken away from the traditional approach to art making, where they laboured over art commissioned by the wealthy, and although artist still may work under commission, they also create art for their own exploration with their own intentions and purpose. According to Jacques RanciГЁre, artists play a larger role in the community, or at least they ought to. He believes artists should use their media as a platform to take charge. Jacques RanciГЁre argues that "artistic practices are ways of doing and making that intervene in the general distribution of these ways of doing and making as well as in the relationships they maintain to models of being and forms of visibility" (p. 403). Being one of the major oil production oil–rig in the UK, the accident that took place more than 20 years ago caught the attention of many, especially those in the field. The happening was largely due to the complacency of the supervisors as well as the safety measures of the management. Using the internet, academic journals and textbooks available, the research was conducted by referring to various sources of information regarding the incident. After the explosion there are many new prevention steps taken in this field of industry as well as new managing system of the offshore regulatory control. 1. The naГЇve government was seduced by the very promising reward of the industry, knowing that it'll be high risk. The management disregarded adherence to certain safety rules. There were regulations, but enforcement was not there. The nation and corporate pride rendered everything in disaster. 2.1.2 Structure and Function A large fixed platform, Piper Alpha was situated on the Piper oilfield, approximately 120 miles (193 km) northeast of Aberdeen in 474 feet (144 m) of water, and comprised four modules separated by firewalls. The platform was constructed by McDermott Engineering at Ardersier and UIE at Cherbourg, with the sections united at Ardersier before tow out during 1975, with production commencing in late 1976 (Drysdale & Slyvester–Evans, 1998). None of the night shift workers were aware that a crucial part of the pump had been removed and decided to start the backup pump. Gas escaped from the hole left by the valve which was not closed tightly. Gas audibly leaked out at high pressure, ignited and exploded and produces a catastrophic fire which blown through the fire walls. The fire from the explosion had destroyed some of the oil lines and soon larger quantities of stored oil were burning out of control. An automatic system, which has been designed to spray water on such fire, had been turned off. Moreover, the accommodations were design in such a way that not smoke–proofed. Some of the workers realized that the only way to survive would be by jumping in to the sea and hoping to be rescued by boat. Only 61 men were survived, but most of them died due to suffocated carbon monoxide and fumes in the accommodations area on the Piper Alpha platform. 2.4 The purpose of this report The purpose of the report is to examine the objectives and structures of the management of Piper Alpha platform for the oil and gas production industry in the North Sea, United Kingdom. It was a silly name for a place that had no water around for miles though. It was set on a plateau at least a mile from the ground and surrounded by desert. There were highways jutting out of either side of the town as if the plateau had lifted out of the ground causing the road to break apart. The rest of the road at the bottom went as far as the eye could see. No one had ever seen a vehicle on the roads. The only way up to the town was by plane or airlift, but no one had ever left, and no one ever came. Elijah was the only kid in Waterfront. His parents barely knew he existed and were always working in the only skyscraper in town. There was military everywhere as if they were looking for something. Elijah got the impression that that thing was him. When Elijah saw them he would run home, which felt good to him. His coffee–colored hair would flow in the wind as ran. His long legs carrying him home. He would hear yelling behind him sometimes like they were chasing him. Elijah would run inside, to the cellar door, which was covered by the ugliest carpet on Earth. It would seem the most two honored people in the town would have a better house, but the house wasn't like that. His home looked like the remains of a giant sardine can that a car had ran over. He pulled up the carpet, and cracked open the cellar. He climbed slowly and quietly down. Then Elijah stopped to listen. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gaboury LAWS 1038–41 Date November 25, 2016 Compare and Contrast the Chernobyl and Piper Alpha Case Studies Introduction: Chernobyl and Piper Alpha Case studies are two of the engineering failures that has happened in the world. The world worst civilian disaster happened when the Chernobyl nuclear power explode in soviet plant located in Ukraine. Soviet nuclear plant was one of the most advanced facilities that included four reactors. The Chernobyl accident happened on 26 April 1986 when the technician wanted to test the backup cooling system for the reactor number four without following the safety procedure. Due to explosion in reactor number four, eight tons of radioactive debris spread into the atmosphere that caused 115000 people to evacuate from 30 kilometers around the area. As a result of this explosion, thirty–one of the plant personnel and the initial fire workers who involved in extinguishing the fire were died shortly from acute radiation sickness. The main issue causes Chernobyl disaster is complex since some people blame the Chernobyl tragedy on the power plant operator, the other blame on the design of the reactor itself (UNSCEAR, 2008). Carrie White Compare And Contrast Contrasting the house De Palma made into an uncanny character of its own, this house is nice–looking and spacious; its yard and street are fertile and well–maintained; the walls appear freshly painted and light–colored; the furniture is pleasingly organized and equipped for company; and condemnatory male religious icons don't border the female residents and shimmer down at them as they did in the previous version.
