Essay On Veterans Day To America
America's gift to my generation Veterans day as we know it is important to all American citizens and
we should all know how to celebrate, and know the affect of what veterans have fought for, and
what Veterans day actually stands for and how we should respect the day as it is. Teenagers in
middle school and even high school don't really think about the importance of Veterans day and
what it really means to be a Veteran, being a teenager I know that the teens in our grade don't even
mention the day until it is mentioned by an adult. Usually to celebrate there is a parade held in New
York city on Saturday November 11. During the parade there are about 25,000 people participating
in the parade. Most people around the world are more concerned

Veterans Day Lessons Definition
It wasn't just another beautiful day in paradise. It was a day of thanking and giving honor to all the
men and woman who serve our country. Residents and veterans gathered for the 14th annual
Veterans Day Ceremonies held on Monday at Legacy Park. "Today, as you can tell, is quite possibly
the event on the Malibu social calendar." said Beth Neal, president of Malibu Chamber of
Commerce who opened the ceremonies. The event was hosted by Pepperdine University, The City
of Malibu, Wells Fargo, and the Malibu Chamber of Commerce. Captain Lawrence Vasquez served
as the Master of Ceremonies and asked everyone to rise for the Presentation of Colors and for our

Craveiro of Our lady of Malibu worked the crowds with her students. The children shook hands
with the veterans and thanked them after they sang the song America's Finest. After the
performance, Master of Ceremonies Captain Vasquez joked, "If you are not pumped up now, you are
in the wrong place!" "The students from Juan Cabrillo presented their peace flags in honor of the
sacrifices that the men and women of the armed forces and veterans made for all of us. "We can

Veterans Day
Every year since 1919 on November 11th, America celebrates Veterans Day. However, do our
people truly understand the meaning behind putting on that army camouflage uniform. Now, the
term hero is used very loosely and it is losing its meaning throughout the nation. In any case, it is
important to realize the actual reasoning behind why our veterans are America's heroes. "This nation
will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave"–Elmer Davis. One of the
last lines of the national anthem is one of the most significant and sometimes, America's citizens
forget the understanding and reasoning behind those few couple of words. Some of these veterans of
the nation risk their lives for others and sometimes in the process,

Informative Essay: Veterans Day
Veterans Day Veterans Day was started on November 11, 1918. Before it was called veterans day it
was called Armistice Day to represent the men who fought in WWI. After the United States went
through WWII and the Korean War. The 83rd U.S. Congress amended the Act of 1938 by taking the
word Armistice out and put the new word Veterans in place of it to represent every American that
served in any war the U.S. has been in. Veterans Day was then moved to be celebrated on the fourth
Monday of October, but most States didn't agree with that decision made, so they tried it and it
brought so much confusion when in 1971 it was celebrated on Oct. 25, until President Gerald R.
Ford signed a law that states Veterans day will be moved onto the original

Why Veterans Day Matters
Veterans Day Matters "Only the dead have seen the end of war" –Plato. On Nov. 11, 1919, the first
anniversary of the end of WW1. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and
Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. To me Veterans Day should be celebrated to
honor veterans because they fought and died for our freedom, went through crazy experiences, and
fight for people they do not know. Veterans should be shown more respect from citizens because
they fought and died for our freedom. My papa got a medal for helping patch a hole in his ship when
it got torpedoed. In WW1 men had to suffer being in trenches and harsh conditions. D–Day was on
of the bloodiest day in WW2 and in history. This is some conditions veterans

Informative Essay On Veterans Day
Veterans Day is a national holiday to commemorate fallen and current men and women for serving
our country. One year after The Great War, November 11 was declared as Armistice Day by
President Wilson. It officially became a holiday on June 1, 1954. Then later the name was changed
to 'Veterans Day' on October 8th (Office of Public Affairs). From then on it was a widely celebrated
holiday. People were let off work/ school to come together with their families to honor people who
sacrifice themselves for the freedom we take for granted everyday. For us seeing a soldier take time
out of his day to risk his/her life to save ours from a terrorist attack it may be extraordinary, but to
another serviceman it is a normal occurrence (Hensley, Robert). Therefore ... Show more content on

Because of this we are also forgetting about all of the actually Veterans. In the world now there are
around 50 thousand homeless Veterans. There are also about 1.4 million who are at risk for
becoming homeless (Who are homeless Veterans). Each year there are more and more homeless
Vets, and what makes it even harder for most is the fact that they suffer from mental health problems
such as PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) (PTSD: National Center for PTSD). This disorder is
very serious and can be extremely dangerous for not only the Vet but the civilians around them if
left untreated, which is difficult when you are not receiving support from anyone. However, there
are people who are making an effort to help and support the Veterans. These ordinary people saw a
problem and came together to find a solution, while they still need improvement the are helpful.

End Of Life Planning
I often find myself searching for ways to increase efficiency and effectiveness in my professional
environment. When instructed to increase education about advance directives and end of life
planning by leadership, I immediately approached this from a group perspective. I coordinated with
Chaplain Services at the James Quillen VA and began leading a group focused on VA Form 10–0137
and end of life planning. Each page of the 5 page form was reviewed with every Veteran, questions
were answered, and the Veteran's personal experience with end of life planning were discussed.
Afterward, Veterans wanting to complete the form remained and were given one–on–one assistance
with completing the form. In one month, we educated approximately 48 Veterans, ... Show more

Since working in the Caregiver Support Program, my recommendation for implementing team
huddles was accepted. As a result, we have been able to anticipate, plan for, and address the
program's needs while being under staffed. We discuss topics such as the number of reassessments,
review newly implemented changes to ensure they are effective and feasible to maintain, and we
restructured work duties and both tackle those tasks that have been identified as "teamwork tasks".
These are tasks that either staff member can address as our schedule allows while both being aware
that the task needs to be completed. While training as the Senior Social Worker for the Caregiver
Support Program, I learned the staff had consistently struggled with obtaining feedback from
providers which is mandated by the program's federal regulations. Utilizing my clinical skills,
relationship building skills, and feedback I began educating providers and requesting feedback
within a specific timeframe. It is now very rare that I am unable to obtain feedback from a treatment
team member. I am now consistently receiving feedback from treatment team members within a few
hours to four days for feedback. As a result, Veterans and Caregivers are receiving timely feedback
while we adhere to federal regulations. As the Activities Coordinator at Bering Omega Community
Services (2007–2008), I used client feedback when selecting and scheduling monthly activities and
trips. Ultimately, attendance, participation, and morale increased. I also used feedback provided by
staff and volunteers when organizing the annual volunteer banquet at Volunteer Baton Rouge (2006–
2007). The number of banquet attendees tripled as a result. I have also led a committee focused on
restructuring the HBPC interdisciplinary team meeting times to increase efficiency. As a result, each

Throughout human history, we have watched many men and women storm into combat to sweat,
bleed, and die for a cause that they believe in. War is no secret to mankind, we have seen it hundreds
of times, and we are aware of the mental and physical damage it has the capability of causing. We've
learned of the gruesome damage caused by the first world war, and the numerous amount of lives it
claimed. We've read the vivid stories authors wrote, using literature as a means to communicate the
horrors experienced in war. Even in present day, we've seen, or known veterans who have returned

For many, warfare lead to their unfortunate demise. For the survivors, warfare leads to PTSD due to
the sickening experiences they were forced to endure. Looking back through human history, we can
see the sheer lethalness of warfare, and the intense damage it can do. By reading our popular
literature, we are able to envision to traumatic experiences soldiers witnessed, and yet still carried
on doing their job. Modern day soldiers and veterans help us understand just how heavily those type
of experiences can affect someone. For many, those war experiences will evolve into mental health
disorders such as PTSD, and they will carry that around with them for the rest of their lives. Warfare
is no friend to man. It picks at everything good in the hearts of soldiers and fills their heads with
evil. In war, many will die, many will see things that they would do anything to unsee, and many
will be mentally tortured by those things for the rest of their foreseeable lives. War forces soldiers to

Is Veteran's Day important to you? Or is it just another dumb holiday the government wants you to
celebrate? Not many people celebrate it, because they think that if you or someone you know isn't a
vet, why should you care, right? Wrong! Even though you think it's not important, it is. These
people don't know half the people they fight for but they still fight for their freedom. This is a huge
thing for them to do because, they go into the service, leave their family, and not even knowing if
they'll ever make it back home. Not only do these people fight for our freedom, but they have also
helped shape out our history, &they have made a big impact on our future. Veterans have shaped our

"Have you hugged a veteran today?" What about yesterday? most likely the answer is no. Veterans
are important to our nations history and future, but we are not very good at recognizing this and
following through with our promises. A quote from John Kennedy states that "As we express our
gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by
them." We do not realize the impact they have on our lives today. They protected our freedom, they
remind us of how deadly war really is, and most importantly they teach our future generations.
One of the fundamental reasons people go to war is for freedom. Where would we be without the
soldiers who fought for our freedom in the American Revolution, or the War of 1812. New

most of the soldiers refuse to talk about what they had experienced in every type of war. It's

Veterans Day in America should be a day that is more celebrated. Many people don't give a second

order to honor those who have served and those who were lost in battle we need to keep our country
educated. War is not happy, it's not pretty; it's painful and gruesome and we should educated our
children and current generations about the risks our troops have taken for us and for the freedom of

The History of Veterans Day
Every year on November 11 we honor and remember all U.S. veterans who fought for our country
and freedom. We express our gratitude, and reflect on the sacrifices that were made from all the men
and women throughout history. Veterans Day has been an annual holiday since 1938, and originated
on November 11, 1919 after WWI (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, 2015). Veterans Day is not
just like any other American holiday. It expresses our thanks, as American citizens, to all of those
that came and fought before us to keep the United States a free country. Veterans Day has evolved
over the years from being a day to honor the veterans of World War I, to becoming a staple in the
American calendar so that citizens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
President Wilson knew it was no longer feasible to remain neutral and on April 2, 1917, he appeared
before congress and requested a declaration of war (History.com, 2010). On June 26, the first 14,000
U.S infantry troops landed in France and began training for combat. A stalemate lasted for several
years on the western front; this was mainly due to the weaponry used during the war. Miles of
trenches were dug into the ground and supported by machine guns; many deaths occurred in order
for either side to advance. There were a staggering total of 320,518 American casualties during the
time span of the war (History.com, 2010).
World War I formally ended on June 28, 1919 when the treaty of Versailles was signed in the Palace
of Versailles in France (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, 2015). Even though this was the official
ending of the "Great War," fighting had come to a halt seven months earlier with an armistice, or
temporary agreement to cease fighting (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, 2015). This armistice
took place on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month (U.S. Department of
Veteran Affairs, 2015). This has been known as "the war to end all wars." On November 11, 1919,
President Woodrow Wilson declared this day as the first commemoration of "Armistice Day"
(Wilson, 1919).

our country. Without them we would have lost many important wars which have affected our
freedom and quality of life. They have kept our country strong and full of pride. I think they were
very brave for being on the front lines of our wars and battles. Even those who were not on the front

Veterans Research Paper Topics
Introduction
The issue being addressed in this study is veteran's rights, most notably homelessness and suicide
rates. The subject of veteran's rights overall is still being pursued. Along with the mindset of the
American public, to the cases presented before Congress, this is an ongoing dilemma. Caring for our
brothers and sisters in arms is the socially responsible thing to do. Ensuring the public is aware, and
promoting campaigns to raise awareness, this is what the paper will touch on.
To whom would you reach out and why?
When deciding who to reach out to for a publicity campaign about veteran's rights, several factors
come into play. Should the focus be on the families of the veterans, the veterans themselves, or the
public not associated with either that are unaware? For this campaign, the focus will be on the
families of veterans as they are the most affected (aside from veterans themselves). They are right
there on the veteran's side, watching them go through the various issues, and feel just as helpless.
This demographic will have the strongest feelings for advocating the rights of veterans across the
board.
In what ways would you reach out? What are some methods would you use to inform and inspire?
Why?
In the is day and age, social media and word of mouth are the biggest advocates to reach the masses.

Persuasive Essay On Veterans Day
On the 11th of November, the U.S. observes Veterans Day. On this day, we are meant to honor the
men and women who have sacrificed so much of their own lives to serve this country. Whether one
may favor the Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, or the National Guard, we should all
pay our respects to all those who served both current, former, and deceased. But what is the purpose
of Veterans Day? And why is it so important to observe this particular holiday?
Many do not know this, but the designated date of November 11 has a symbolic meaning behind it.
There are specific reasons why this date was chosen as the most suitable day to honor our military
veterans. The 11th of November is the precise day which symbolically, the First World War ended in
1918. The battles came to a halt at 11am, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. In 1926,
Armistice Day was observed for the first time. This day was celebrated in remembrance of when an
unknown American soldier was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. This cemetery is a site of
great honor in the United States. From that day, Armistice Day was celebrated annually as a way to
pay tribute to everyone who fought in WWI. In 1938, Armistice Day was declared an official
holiday. Unfortunately, although World War I was supposed to be the "war to end all wars", that
peace did not last forever. The Second World War came too in 1939. Following the realization that

Veteran To School Day Speech Analysis
On November 14, 2016 the Louis F. Angelo Elementary School held there annual Bring a Veteran to
School Day, an event that allows students to bring a relative who is either an active member of the
military or a veteran to address the students.
All of the branches of the military were represented during the ceremony. From the Army to the Air
Force, each branch was present and accounted for. Whether they were actively serving or a veteran
who served 30 years ago, each speaker shared their unique and individual experiences, like Peter
Wedon who served as a drill sergeant in the Army for 13 years, or ______________ who served in
the U.S. Navy during the war in Vietnam.

Veterans Day is a day to celebrate. You really can not fully celebrate Veterans Day until you know
the history behind Veterans Day, and the meaning of why we celebrate or Veterans on November 11.
Veterans Day started November 11, 1919. This date also represents the one year anniversary of the
stop of violence of World War I. Veterans Day in 1919 was called Armistice Day. In 1954, President
Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans
Day. In 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Holidays Bill, which moved the celebration of Veterans
Day to every fourth Monday in October. The first year we celebrated Veterans Day on this date was
1971, but in 1975 President Gerald Ford returned Veterans Day

Whether it is in an office, on a battlefield, or at a switchboard, it takes a hero to be a veteran.
Bravery and patriotism are characteristics of veterans. Veterans' Day was created to honor all people
who have served, fought, and died for our country and our freedom. People who served in the
military and gave their services, risked their lives, and lost their lives for us are all veterans: They
deserve our thanks.
When people think of veterans, a word that might come to their mind would be hero. Soldiers leave
their homes, families, and friends to fight for our country and the freedom we believe in so strongly.
If a brother, cousin, uncle, or friend gets killed during a battle, veterans keep going. They need to
wait until a later time to grieve, cry, and mourn their lost companions. Soldiers endure loss,
blistering cold, scorching heat, trench foot, and more. This is what makes up a true hero. ... Show

During an attack or a battle, there may be bombs falling, bullets flying, blood, pain, and the death of
soldiers and civilians. It takes bravery to live through that. Years later, when veterans are safely
home, nightmarish scenes are often still vivid in their minds. The soldier, the veteran, does not
complain. When young men and women enlist in the armed forces, they know the dangers they face.
They still enlist and are willing to risk their lives for the freedom of their country because they
believe. They feel proud. Soldiers leave home, go overseas, fight for our country, and either die
bravely or come home proudly. That is

An older man is slumped in a rigid metal chair. He is barely visible over the multiple rows of people
surrounding him. His hands clasp his seat, trying to steady the rest of his body. A few tears trail
down his rough cheek. The final notes of taps echo across the gymnasium. My brain takes a while to
adjust to the fact that I had just seen my grandpa cry. I had never seen this tough yet loving man
break down like that. I wanted to rush over to hug and comfort him. He located me in the crowd and
shook his head, smiling. This was his moment. He finally acknowledged the sacrifices he had made,

One of the best ways to do so is to travel to our nation's capital. Several schools use such a trip as an
educational opportunity. In Washington DC, students can tour landmarks, visit monuments, and
explore the past. The experience of a DC trip turns a textbook into more of a hands on experience. It
should be something the government promotes, as it shows patriotism preserved. Furthermore, in
order to be patriotic in this day and age, we need to teach tolerance in school and families. Over the
years, America has made a lot of progress. We need to recognize how freedom has evolved and learn
from the mistakes past generations have made. Patriotism is about accepting the fact that America
has had skewed viewpoints and continues to, but grows as these views change. Tolerance is a way to
show patriotism as well as respect the entire population of America. Using historical documents in
everyday life is another way to acknowledge our heritage. Saying the Pledge in the morning and
standing during the performance of the National Anthem are two practical and constant examples.
Learning the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, etc. is important to showing patriotism as
these documents educate us on acts of patriotism long ago. Knowing your past through writings can
make you proud and help you stalwartly stand for your

Welcome to New Haven Middle School's Veterans Day Assembly. A lot of people think it's just
another assembly that you go to and just listen to people talk, but it's more than just that. It's about
honoring our loved ones and the fallen ones, the ones who came back injured or scarred for life. We
go to airports and gym's where a meeting s held to welcome home our soldiers. Some kids ask their
parents or someone they know about who gives us our freedom. All they have to say is someone
who fights for our country. Freedom is NOT free. It may seem free because certain people are out
fighting to protect us and our country. Some people throw a party or a huge welcome home
gathering or make tons of signs to show their thanks. I'm sure they love it but I'm also sure all they
would want is a simple thank you.

Essay On Veterans Day
Veterans day means a day of celebration and also sadness. It means remembrance, and for some,
memories we wish to forget. Some have died in the fight while others live to seize the day. Some
come back unscathed, but those who don't, carry their scars with proud hearts. We honor them with
this day and thank them for fighting for us when we could not. When I see a veteran, I wonder what
it'd be like if I walked in their shoes, experienced what they have. We all have some braveness in us
but not all of us have the strength to listen to bullets just miss our heads. I know that no matter how
small, every Veteran has a story and anyone should be happy to listen to it. Without these incredible

Argumentative Essay: The History Of Veterans Day
November eleventh is a special day for Americans to honor and recognize the soldiers who fought
for our country. Veterans day is a day for people to honor those who have fought for our country, the
ones who we did not know, and our loved ones. On this day it is important to pay your respect to the
men and women who fought and also fully understand why we have this day to honor them.
Veterans day matters because the men and women who bravely fought should be acknowledged
because without them our country would not be safe and free. November 11 is not a day off to relax,
we take this day off with an important reason. Many Americans do not understand the importance
and reason why we celebrate Veterans day. On this day all Americans should be honoring those who
fought. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Veterans day was first celebrated as Armistice day in 1938. Armistice day was a day to
commemorate the end of World War 1. President Wilson declared Armistice is an important day to
honor those who fought in World War I. Many disagreed with him, claiming that we shouldn't base a
holiday off people who lost their lives. President Wilson persisted in his efforts to make Armistice a
holiday. Finally, Armistice was declared a holiday in 1938. After four years, Wilson was no longer
president and gave one last speech to try a keep the holiday. Wilson strongly stated that he was
"mortified by America's failure to to pursue his programs for keeping the peace". His efforts did not
succeed until after World War II and the Korean War. The aftermath of these two wars was a holiday

Argument Against Veterans Day
Well to begin, Veterans Day is a day to celebrate all the strong and brave U.S. veterans and victims
of the World War 1, who have risked their lives for our freedom and safety today. Now on
November 11, we as americans publicly celebrate this holiday on the anniversary of the end of the
war. It is a time to ponder and really think about how far we have came in American History, and
how much we have accomplished in a world filled with so much hate and crime. Instead of war, we
fight for world peace and kindness to be spread. Though we are constantly at war with other
countries, without our courageous soldiers and our fearless veterans, this country would be a
different place to live in. A more cruel, unsafe, and terrifying place. Furthermore,

Veterans : The Intricate Journey
Veterans the Intricate Journey
Veterans are the individuals that by practicing their beliefs in freedom, have unintentionally
rewritten history. They exist as our dads, moms, uncles, brothers, sisters, and grandfathers.
Americans honor these veterans that are willing to offer the ultimate sacrifice in order to honor and
protect their country. Yet, society constantly overlook their desire and passion for this country.
Veterans Day is the day that society set aside every year to honor those who have served. Veterans
submit themselves to a long journey filled with life changing events in order to defend their
countries' values and deserve further appreciation.
Several people have forgotten what it means to be a veteran. Most of the younger populace would
just say it is putting on a uniform, carrying a gun, and having to shoot at an enemy, nevertheless it is
usually more about defending their country and standing up for what is right, even after numerous
days of severe and sweaty fighting the enemy with their fellow soldiers dying all around soldiers,
until the war is finally over and soldiers gets to return home with the knowledge that other soldiers
were not as lucky. This is what it means to be a veteran. A veteran's glory tends to be
underappreciated by the majority of the American people, since they do not understand all the
misery and pain that the soldiers endured for it isn't mentioned in the job description. American
people need to do more in order to show respect to

men who made it back safely. The reason he made it back safley was because he ran the entire time.
He told us after the army he could have ran to texas and back. Their were many terriable storys from
the holocaust camps he fought to liberate. He said there were lamp shades made from Jewish

lives to thousands of people everyday just so they can live the American lifestyle everyone wants.
There are many different types of veterans. There are soilders, marines, the Air Force and more.
That is what makes a hero. They face the risk of death when they go to war, or even just having the

They do a lot more than what we know, or what they tell us, their minds go through a lot too. They
had to go through rigorous training, and they have eliminated threats under a lot of pressure. World

armistice was the breaking point, and ended the war. Armistice is an agreement to halt fighting for a

It is important to always remember the sacrifices that they had to make to give us the freedoms we
have today. For their spouses, it is difficult to keep their existing jobs, because they have to move
every few years. They have to take care of their houses, and children without his or her help. Most
of the Veterans had to pack up and move months at a time. They both could be worried about dying
in battle and never seeing your spouse, children, or family ever again. They also miss holidays
sometimes because they are drafted in at a certain time. Another sacrifice is their minds, some
soldiers come back with post traumatic stress disorder because of what they had to go through. We

Essay On Veterans Day To America

  • 1. Essay On Veterans Day To America America's gift to my generation Veterans day as we know it is important to all American citizens and we should all know how to celebrate, and know the affect of what veterans have fought for, and what Veterans day actually stands for and how we should respect the day as it is. Teenagers in middle school and even high school don't really think about the importance of Veterans day and what it really means to be a Veteran, being a teenager I know that the teens in our grade don't even mention the day until it is mentioned by an adult. Usually to celebrate there is a parade held in New York city on Saturday November 11. During the parade there are about 25,000 people participating in the parade. Most people around the world are more concerned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Veterans Day Lessons Definition It wasn't just another beautiful day in paradise. It was a day of thanking and giving honor to all the men and woman who serve our country. Residents and veterans gathered for the 14th annual Veterans Day Ceremonies held on Monday at Legacy Park. "Today, as you can tell, is quite possibly the event on the Malibu social calendar." said Beth Neal, president of Malibu Chamber of Commerce who opened the ceremonies. The event was hosted by Pepperdine University, The City of Malibu, Wells Fargo, and the Malibu Chamber of Commerce. Captain Lawrence Vasquez served as the Master of Ceremonies and asked everyone to rise for the Presentation of Colors and for our National Anthem. She said that chemical exposure was a big threat to her troops and some still suffer from symptoms of disorders resulting from chemical exposure. Despite the risks she says the U.S. Navy helped her accomplish great things. "There is no limit to what woman can accomplish in the service." said Daniel. As Webster Elementary School children lined up to sing My County Tis of Thee, other children from Our lady of Malibu, Juan Cabrillo, and Point Dume schools waited patiently for their turn to honor the Veterans. Beverly Craveiro of Our lady of Malibu worked the crowds with her students. The children shook hands with the veterans and thanked them after they sang the song America's Finest. After the performance, Master of Ceremonies Captain Vasquez joked, "If you are not pumped up now, you are in the wrong place!" "The students from Juan Cabrillo presented their peace flags in honor of the sacrifices that the men and women of the armed forces and veterans made for all of us. "We can sleep at night without worries knowing that tomorrow freedom and American values will still exist." said Principle Dr. Herkner. The Peace Flags are wishes for world peace. Kevin and Kylie McNulty from Point Dume Elementary School recited poems to express gratitude to all who serve to protect our freedom. Award winning singer and songwriter Kathy Bee ... • 9. Veterans Day Every year since 1919 on November 11th, America celebrates Veterans Day. However, do our people truly understand the meaning behind putting on that army camouflage uniform. Now, the term hero is used very loosely and it is losing its meaning throughout the nation. In any case, it is important to realize the actual reasoning behind why our veterans are America's heroes. "This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave"–Elmer Davis. One of the last lines of the national anthem is one of the most significant and sometimes, America's citizens forget the understanding and reasoning behind those few couple of words. • 13. Informative Essay: Veterans Day Veterans Day Veterans Day was started on November 11, 1918. Before it was called veterans day it was called Armistice Day to represent the men who fought in WWI. After the United States went through WWII and the Korean War. The 83rd U.S. Congress amended the Act of 1938 by taking the word Armistice out and put the new word Veterans in place of it to represent every American that served in any war the U.S. has been in. Veterans Day was then moved to be celebrated on the fourth Monday of October, but most States didn't agree with that decision made, so they tried it and it brought so much confusion when in 1971 it was celebrated on Oct. 25, until President Gerald R. Ford signed a law that states Veterans day will be moved onto the original ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Why Veterans Day Matters Veterans Day Matters "Only the dead have seen the end of war" –Plato. On Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of WW1. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. To me Veterans Day should be celebrated to honor veterans because they fought and died for our freedom, went through crazy experiences, and fight for people they do not know. Veterans should be shown more respect from citizens because they fought and died for our freedom. My papa got a medal for helping patch a hole in his ship when it got torpedoed. In WW1 men had to suffer being in trenches and harsh conditions. D–Day was on of the bloodiest day in WW2 and in history. This is some conditions veterans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Informative Essay On Veterans Day Veterans Day is a national holiday to commemorate fallen and current men and women for serving our country. One year after The Great War, November 11 was declared as Armistice Day by President Wilson. It officially became a holiday on June 1, 1954. Then later the name was changed to 'Veterans Day' on October 8th (Office of Public Affairs). From then on it was a widely celebrated holiday. People were let off work/ school to come together with their families to honor people who sacrifice themselves for the freedom we take for granted everyday. For us seeing a soldier take time out of his day to risk his/her life to save ours from a terrorist attack it may be extraordinary, but to another serviceman it is a normal occurrence (Hensley, Robert). Therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this we are also forgetting about all of the actually Veterans. In the world now there are around 50 thousand homeless Veterans. There are also about 1.4 million who are at risk for becoming homeless (Who are homeless Veterans). Each year there are more and more homeless Vets, and what makes it even harder for most is the fact that they suffer from mental health problems such as PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) (PTSD: National Center for PTSD). This disorder is very serious and can be extremely dangerous for not only the Vet but the civilians around them if left untreated, which is difficult when you are not receiving support from anyone. However, there are people who are making an effort to help and support the Veterans. These ordinary people saw a problem and came together to find a solution, while they still need improvement the are helpful. • 25. End Of Life Planning I often find myself searching for ways to increase efficiency and effectiveness in my professional environment. When instructed to increase education about advance directives and end of life planning by leadership, I immediately approached this from a group perspective. I coordinated with Chaplain Services at the James Quillen VA and began leading a group focused on VA Form 10–0137 and end of life planning. Each page of the 5 page form was reviewed with every Veteran, questions were answered, and the Veteran's personal experience with end of life planning were discussed. Afterward, Veterans wanting to complete the form remained and were given one–on–one assistance with completing the form. In one month, we educated approximately 48 Veterans, ... As a result, we have been able to anticipate, plan for, and address the program's needs while being under staffed. We discuss topics such as the number of reassessments, review newly implemented changes to ensure they are effective and feasible to maintain, and we restructured work duties and both tackle those tasks that have been identified as "teamwork tasks". These are tasks that either staff member can address as our schedule allows while both being aware that the task needs to be completed. While training as the Senior Social Worker for the Caregiver Support Program, I learned the staff had consistently struggled with obtaining feedback from providers which is mandated by the program's federal regulations. Utilizing my clinical skills, relationship building skills, and feedback I began educating providers and requesting feedback within a specific timeframe. It is now very rare that I am unable to obtain feedback from a treatment team member. I am now consistently receiving feedback from treatment team members within a few hours to four days for feedback. As a result, Veterans and Caregivers are receiving timely feedback while we adhere to federal regulations. As the Activities Coordinator at Bering Omega Community Services (2007–2008), I used client feedback when selecting and scheduling monthly activities and trips. Ultimately, attendance, participation, and morale increased. I also used feedback provided by staff and volunteers when organizing the annual volunteer banquet at Volunteer Baton Rouge (2006– 2007). The number of banquet attendees tripled as a result. I have also led a committee focused on restructuring the HBPC interdisciplinary team meeting times to increase efficiency. War is no secret to mankind, we have seen it hundreds of times, and we are aware of the mental and physical damage it has the capability of causing. We've learned of the gruesome damage caused by the first world war, and the numerous amount of lives it claimed. We've read the vivid stories authors wrote, using literature as a means to communicate the horrors experienced in war. By reading our popular literature, we are able to envision to traumatic experiences soldiers witnessed, and yet still carried on doing their job. Modern day soldiers and veterans help us understand just how heavily those type of experiences can affect someone. For many, those war experiences will evolve into mental health disorders such as PTSD, and they will carry that around with them for the rest of their lives. Warfare is no friend to man. It picks at everything good in the hearts of soldiers and fills their heads with evil. Veterans are important to our nations history and future, but we are not very good at recognizing this and following through with our promises. A quote from John Kennedy states that "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." We do not realize the impact they have on our lives today. They protected our freedom, they remind us of how deadly war really is, and most importantly they teach our future generations. One of the fundamental reasons people go to war is for freedom. Where would we be without the soldiers who fought for our freedom in the American Revolution, or the War of 1812. On June 26, the first 14,000 U.S infantry troops landed in France and began training for combat. A stalemate lasted for several years on the western front; this was mainly due to the weaponry used during the war. There were a staggering total of 320,518 American casualties during the time span of the war (History.com, 2010). World War I formally ended on June 28, 1919 when the treaty of Versailles was signed in the Palace of Versailles in France (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, 2015). Even though this was the official ending of the "Great War," fighting had come to a halt seven months earlier with an armistice, or temporary agreement to cease fighting (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, 2015). This armistice took place on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, 2015). This has been known as "the war to end all wars." On November 11, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson declared this day as the first commemoration of "Armistice Day" (Wilson, 1919). They risk their lives for us mostly every single day. I believe America's veterans should be honored because they have helped to keep freedom in our country. Without them we would have lost many important wars which have affected our freedom and quality of life. They have kept our country strong and full of pride. I think they were very brave for being on the front lines of our wars and battles. Even those who were not on the front lines but served as backups were brave for helping and supporting those that were fighting on the battlefields. They are courageous for putting their lives in danger ... The subject of veteran's rights overall is still being pursued. Along with the mindset of the American public, to the cases presented before Congress, this is an ongoing dilemma. Caring for our brothers and sisters in arms is the socially responsible thing to do. Ensuring the public is aware, and promoting campaigns to raise awareness, this is what the paper will touch on. To whom would you reach out and why? When deciding who to reach out to for a publicity campaign about veteran's rights, several factors come into play. Should the focus be on the families of the veterans, the veterans themselves, or the public not associated with either that are unaware? For this campaign, the focus will be on the families of veterans as they are the most affected (aside from veterans themselves). They are right there on the veteran's side, watching them go through the various issues, and feel just as helpless. This demographic will have the strongest feelings for advocating the rights of veterans across the board. In what ways would you reach out? What are some methods would you use to inform and inspire? Some of the Veterans died trying to sacrifice their lives to save ours. I am very thankful for my family that went to battle in Army, Navy, and WWI and WWII. I am also thankful for their friends and other people that have served our country because Veterans Days means a lot more to me then just thanking our soldiers. • 93. Persuasive Essay On Veterans Day On the 11th of November, the U.S. observes Veterans Day. On this day, we are meant to honor the men and women who have sacrificed so much of their own lives to serve this country. Whether one may favor the Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, or the National Guard, we should all pay our respects to all those who served both current, former, and deceased. But what is the purpose of Veterans Day? And why is it so important to observe this particular holiday? Many do not know this, but the designated date of November 11 has a symbolic meaning behind it. There are specific reasons why this date was chosen as the most suitable day to honor our military veterans. The 11th of November is the precise day which symbolically, the First World War ended in 1918. The battles came to a halt at 11am, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. In 1926, Armistice Day was observed for the first time. This day was celebrated in remembrance of when an unknown American soldier was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. This cemetery is a site of great honor in the United States. From that day, Armistice Day was celebrated annually as a way to pay tribute to everyone who fought in WWI. In 1938, Armistice Day was declared an official holiday. Unfortunately, although World War I was supposed to be the "war to end all wars", that peace did not last forever. The Second World War came too in 1939. Following the realization that there would no doubt undoubtedly be more war in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Veterans' Day was created to honor all people who have served, fought, and died for our country and our freedom. People who served in the military and gave their services, risked their lives, and lost their lives for us are all veterans: They deserve our thanks. When people think of veterans, a word that might come to their mind would be hero. Soldiers leave their homes, families, and friends to fight for our country and the freedom we believe in so strongly. If a brother, cousin, uncle, or friend gets killed during a battle, veterans keep going. They need to wait until a later time to grieve, cry, and mourn their lost companions.
