1. MEDIA STUDIES
The font is simple and easy to read
which links well with the genre and
the minimalist approach it takes.
Since Jamie Lawson’s nameis the
only text on the album cover, I think
he is trying to imply to his audience
that he is simply himself, without the
extra flashiness someartists may
have, particularly in the Pop genre.
The simplicity also indicates that the
music is pure and perhaps even
personal; it allows the audience to
solely focus on the music he is
creating. Though the text isn’tas bold
and sharp as seen in other artist’s
album covers, it still catches the eye
of the audience becausethe image
behind it is blurred and even unclear
due to the low resolution.
The colours used in the cover are varying shades of browns, oranges and whites. This emphasises the‘earthy’ nature of the
genre and also may emphasisethe naturalsound of his music – especially fromthe acoustic guitar. Itis a low resolution
image which gives the impression that it is an old and faded picture, and with this more vintage and aged look, the artistis
portraying memories, history and emotion through the image. This is another popular technique within the genre becauseit
allows the audience to connect with the artist as well as linking to the fact that the folk genreoriginated many years ago and
has changed and adapted over time.
The digipack links to the
advertin the fact that both
images are vintage and aged
looking. Though they are
different images, the font of
the text is the same in both
the advertand the digipack
which allows the audience to
recognisethe text if they
have seen one of them and
relate to where it came from.
Since this makes it more
recognisable, the audience
will be more inclined to buy
it.
Brown, the colour of earth, wood, stone and other natural items gives a
senseof security, honesty and warmth for the target audience. Itallows the
audience to feel connected to the artistand the naturalnature of his music.
The colour white is associated with light, goodness and purity which again
adds to the natural purity the acoustic guitar and singing brings.
