3. WORK PLAN CONT.
⢠I will be launching my film on the 23rd March.
⢠This is a Saturday which I think is a good day to release a film because more people are not
at work at the weekend which means they may be more inclined to watch the film as they
may have more spare time.
⢠I have also chosen to release the film in March because I will be shooting the majority of
the film in the winter so it would not fit releasing it in the summer. Whilst in March it is the
very beginning of Spring, I think the weather will in keep with the weather more in the film.
⢠In addition, I think March is a good time to release the film because it doesnât clash with
any events such as Christmas or Halloween where audiences expect to see films related to
these national holidays.
5. CAST AND CREW
⢠My mum will be cast as the protagonist in my short film. She will be needed for the
majority of filming since the protagonist is in most shots of the film and so I have
chosen her because she will be easy to schedule times to film with. In addition she is
the right age to play the protagonist so it will look realistic.
⢠Because she is over 18 I will not need to get permission slips for her to feature in my
film which will make the process quicker.
⢠I will be using my dad as the husband in the film â he will not be acting live in the film,
but in photographs. He will be part of the crew to help with setting up scenes and
carrying props etc. This will make the filming process easier because I will have help
setting up the shots and can focus on the filming of the piece.
6. BUDGET
⢠The budget I have given myself for this short film is £10.
⢠Since I am using my own camera which I have already purchased and will be doing the
filming and editing work myself, I will not need to budget costs for that. In addition my
actress is willing to feature in my film freely which keeps the costs low.
⢠I will not need to buy the right to any music or sound effects because I will be downloading
them from copyright free websites such as BenSound for free to feature in my film.
⢠I already have the majority of props available to me freely. For example a mug, kettle,
phone. However, I will need to buy some condolence cards for one particular scene. I will
budget ÂŁ5 for this.
⢠I will not be hiring any costumes for my actress because her outfit is a very simple day to
day look. She will be wearing clothes that she already owns which I will pick out.
⢠I will be using the editing software at school which has been downloaded to every
computer for students to access.
7. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS
⢠My filmed footage is legally owned by me. In order to protect my footage I should copyright it so that others
have to ask my permission to use it in the future. This stops anybody using my footage for their own use
without permission. I have explained to my actress that the film may well be shown online and she has
agreed to this and there is no one aged under 18 acting in my film so I have not had to get parental
permission for this. If someone were to use my copyrighted footage without permission it would be taken
down since it would be breaking copyright laws.
⢠I will be designing my studio title logo sequence myself so I will also own the right to this if I copyright the
sequence and the logo. This logo created will be easy for the audience to relate to the studio itself so
therefore will be the trademark recognised by audiences. If someone were to use my sequence they would
have to get consent from me. If this is used by someone else without gaining access to it, their film or
material will be taken down.
⢠I will not be using any additional video footage found online within my film so I will not need to research
whether it is copyright free or spend time asking permission to use this.
⢠The musical score I will be using in my film is called November and has been composed by Benjamin Tissot
and was created for a website called BenSound. This is a copyright free website whereby I can download and
use the musical score without having to ask permission from the original composer. Once in my film I will
not own the copyright to the music so if someone else wanted to then use it in their film or for another use
they legally will be able to.
8. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
⢠Though my target audience is 25-40 year olds, my film will be classified as a 12A
whereby the material is not generally suitable for children aged under 12 and anyone
under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult to view the film in a cinema.
⢠My film will not include high levels of bad language, nudity, sex or drug misuse.
However it may cover themes that may affect younger children, such as the death of
her husband and the potential murder of the young child. For this reason I have rated
it a 12A.
⢠The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is the UKâs regulator of film and video
and is a non-governmental organisation. They provide age ratings from U to 18, and
they have the legal power to rate and sometimes even reject work. Therefore it is
important that my footage is suitable to be viewed so that it doesnât get rejected.
9. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
⢠My film may contain content that may upset some members of the audience if they are
dealing with the loss of someone. However, there will not be anything highly offensive
to viewers. I have made sure that the scenes will be appropriate for viewers over the
age of 12 as this is my age rating (12A) and specifically for the target audience.
⢠If anyone younger than the age rating watches my film and is offended or affected by
any of the footage, they are watching at their own risk.
10. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
⢠It is important that I follow the guidelines provided by âShort of the Weekâ in order to
allow my film to be shown on their website
⢠The length of my film must be 40 minutes or less, and they particularly like films on
average 10 minutes long. I will be making my film 10 minutes to allow it full potential
to be shown on their website and fit their guidelines.
⢠Short of the Week require films to have all the necessary rights already secured in
order for them to feature a film. So, it is important that I have gained access properly
to any musical score, sound effects or images.
⢠In addition they expect the film submitted to be free for the viewer to watch.
⢠It is important that my film fits these guidelines for Short of the Week in order for it to
be published on their website. If it doesnât fit the guidelines it will not be shown on
their website and I will not have achieved my objective and I will not have met the
brief.
11. CONTINGENCY PLAN
⢠If my actress for the protagonist (my mum) is ill, or unavailable to film during the times
needed I will use my neighbour who I have spoken to to play the character. She is of a
similar age and so I think she will be able to play the character in the same way.
⢠The filming may be affected by the weather â for example if it is heavily raining this may
not allow me to film. If this happens I have a rescheduled plan with my actors in order to
film on a different day.
⢠Whilst editing, if I donât have access to a computer during school time, I will have the files
saved onto my MacBook so that I can edit it from there since I have the Adobe Premiere
Pro software available to me at home. This will allow me to edit both at home and at school
if necessary or during my home study periods.
