• The perinatal period commences at 22 completed weeks (154
days) of gestation and ends seven completed days after birth.
Perinatal and maternal health are closely linked.
• Perinatal mortality refers to the number of stillbirths and
deaths in the first week of life (early neonatal mortality).

3. • The antepartum period is literally equivalent
to prenatal Practically, however, antepartum usually refers to
the period between the 24th/26th week of gestational age
until birth, for example in antepartum hemorrhage.

4. ICD-10-CM GUIDELINES
• Don’t use “P” codes or codes from Z38 on the maternal record
nor use “o” codes on a new born record.
• For stillbirths use “P”95
• If a condition presents at birth time and continues through out
the life use “P” codes
