2. INTRODUCTION
• This category deals with malformations related to
respiratory system parts like
nose,larynx,trachea,bronchus,and lungs.
• Choanal atresia is a congenital disorder where the back
of the nasal passage (choana) is blocked
3. • The larynx commonly called the voice box, is an organ in
the neck of tetrapods involved in breathing, sound
production, and protecting the trachea against food
aspiration.
• Congenital laryngeal web is a rare malformation
consisting of a membrane-like structure that extends
across the laryngeal lumen close to the level of the vocal
cords.
4. GLOTTIC WEB OF LARYNX
• An abnormal, continuous sheet of mucosa that joins the
vocal cords together.
• This glottic web is analogous to the web one sees
between adjacent fingers. Normally, in the absence of a
glottic web, the mucosa covers each vocal cord
individually to form a crisp “V”.
• A glottic web may be congenital, or it may result from
injury.
5. • Laryngocele refers to a congenital anomalous air sac
communicating with the cavity of the larynx, which may
bulge outward on the neck.
• Atresia of larynx is a complete upper airway
obstruction that occurs when the larynx fails to open
during a baby's development in utero and remains
blocked by cartilage or other tissue when he's born.
6. CONGENITAL CYSTIC LUNG
• Congenital cystic diseases of the lung are a rare but
significant cause of morbidity in children and young adults
presenting with respiratory distress and repeated chest
infections.
• They consist of cystic adenomatoid malformation,
bronchogenic cyst, pulmonary sequestration, and
congenital lobar emphysema.
7. AGENESIS OF LUNG
• The term ‘agenesis’ is taken to mean Partial or almost
complete absence of growth in the lung
• Agenesis of lung,a rare congenital anomaly, may present
in adult life with features of recurrent chest infections and
radiologically may mimic many common conditions
presenting as opaque hemithorax with ipsilateral shifting
of mediastinum.
