How I Operate Within A Working Environment
Introduction Self–reflection is the key in gaining an outlook of a student's strengths and weaknesses.
By understanding these characteristics, one can take action to improve upon them. Within this
assignment I will discuss the tasks and challenges that the company Midland Heart has presented.
This will involve reflecting upon such challenges to assess how I operate within a working
environment. My primary role was to shadow the manager of the law team to study the ways in
which she organises and communicate with her staff. The bulk of my role involved going through
housing cases to understand how the law team is used as a function within the business. Furthermore
I also worked with various other departments to understand their roles in ... Show more content on

In reality however, there were a number of times where I asked for assistance particularly regarding
some of the legal documents. In retrospect, I should have asked for more detail about certain jobs to
clarify some of the terms. Further to this I had to ensure that my progress was being monitored and
developed and this was maintained by semi regular meetings and informal conversations. Reflecting
on my first work placement, it was rare to have such meetings which often left it difficult to
understand how my skills were being developed. Macduff (2012, p. 24) supports Cooks previous
point going on to suggest that settling within the second year is seen as more advantageous as there
is a natural improvement in confidence. Despite this I still struggled to confidently operate as
Midland Heart was such a drastic difference to Savers. This oversight could have been avoided if I
had discussed the issue with either my tutor or manager to gain an insight into the correct office
etiquette. Networking One of the purposes of pursuing a work placement is to meet working people
to understand how they work. Brooks (2012) establishes that networking within your organisation
could also help an employee with future job opportunities. It was therefore important to utilise this
opportunity to gain a number of contacts in a field that I was interested in. As my previous
placement was in an organisation that I already worked for, it was difficult to find new contacts.

Working Your Way Back Into The Workplace Environment
Regardless of the amount of time you took off to recuperate after a mental health crisis, you need to
make sure that you take the necessary steps to maintain your well–being. Working your way back to
become healthy again is just as, or sometimes more difficult than actually undergoing the mental
health crisis you endured. However, taking the appropriate steps after an emotionally or
psychologically draining event can be overwhelming as you figure out how to assimilate back into
the workplace environment. Seek out help from professionals and stay connected until you have
recovered 100% Gathering enough information from professionals in the psychiatric and
psychological fields will allow you to access the point where you are seeing improvement in your
day to day. Staying connected with the professionals that guide you in your life is absolutely
essential when it comes to making strides to overcome the obstacle you had faced for so long.
Positive thinking It can be helpful to think about future goals and think less about what happened in
the past. Loehr works with a psychiatrist and life coach to focus on where she is trying to go in life,
versus focusing on the hurtful situations she has gone through. As a result, one of the goals of her
coaching company is to help spread kindness and provide actual solutions to help prevent people
with mental health issues from suffering as much and as long as she did in her past. Take care of
yourself. Often overlooked, simple parts

The Importance Of Creating And Managing A Culturally...
Introduction Maya Angelou, a famous African American poet, once said, "We all should know that
diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are
equal in value no matter what their colour," (Angelou & Johnson, 2014). This quote shows how
cultural diversity is widely believed to be a benefit to society, but how do these benefits stretch to
the context of a business? This review will be looking into literature surrounding the question, what
are the key outcomes of creating and managing a culturally diverse working environment? Over 20
years ago, a prediction was made that the demographics of the workforce would start to change
significantly and researchers and writers began endorsing the need for organisations to create
supportive workplaces where diversity is valued, (Cox, 1994). "They have argued that diversity is a
double–edged sword; it has the potential for positive and negative outcomes," (Chrobot–Mason &
Aramovich, 2013). Chrobot–Mason and Aramovich (2013) also added that the way to ensure
positive outcomes from diversity was the effective management of the workplace. This review will
be exploring how effective management of a diverse workforce can bring about positive outcomes
for employees and whole organisations through increased senses of identity for workers leading to
lower turnover rates, and increased innovation within an organisation. Turnover Rates Diversity

paper, expresses how nurse unit mangers play a critical role in providing a tranquil working
environment. In the research paper the author's express, "Important leadership characteristics of the

The Working Environment Of Westfield State University
From the information deduced from the survey, there are three practical recommendations for better
align the working environment of Westfield State University with the expectations and skills of the
millennial generation in order to ultimately improve recruitment, retention, and productivity of
administrative staff members. The three recommendations are implementing clear guidelines for
promotion, creating a formal mentoring program, and allowing formal Flexible scheduling. Below a
description of how to implement the recommendations will be detailed. When surveyed for
recommended improvements, 70% of millennials reported a need for clear guidelines for
promotions. Interestingly millennial were not along. Non–millennial were also very ... Show more

The second recommendation is for the creation of a formal mentoring program. Results of the study
show that 55% of millennials agreed with the implementation of a formal mentoring program, as
opposed to just 22.86% of non–millennials. An explanation for the result is that millennials are still
at the onset of their professional career and the non–millennial cohort make up a larger percent of
upper management. What this means is that development may not be a need or benefit given that a
significant amount of non–millennials are already in leadership positions. The United States Air
Force General Michael V. Hayden, stated, ''only if we mentor effectively – only if we teach our new
recruits and learn from them – will we achieve the objectives of our Strategic Intent" (Hershatter, &
Epstein, p.220.)
Through mentoring programs, organizations can create applicable means for millennials to interact
with management. "These relationships have been shown to be effective at socializing employees,
enhancing career paths, and building institutional networks for every generation, but Millennials are
the first population to have been fully immersed in mentoring programs throughout their lives...

Work Environment and Health
One of the most important aspects of any company is the working conditions and environment
comfort of the workers. Workers whose environmental is not designed to suit the kind of task they
perform tend to develop health conditions that may affect their lives. Data entry using the keyboard
in a computer is one of the tasks which require a well–established and a comfortable environment.
Failure to provide this may result in several ill health conditions. One of such condition is carpal
tunnel syndrome. This discussion will, therefore, focus on the factors those results to such
conditions and the possible ways to make a working environment for individuals ... Show more

There is also a need for an individual to ensure that a person takes a regular break to give a hand
opportunity to relax and release from the constant straining. The positioning of the computer,
especially the mouse, should be in a flat and comfortable place that ensures a soft and a swift
movement that reduces any chances of strains by the hand. This will also help individuals to work
for a long time without feeling any pain in hand. Based on the research on the repeated stress injury,
the company needs to improve the working environment for the data entry operations. In this case,
there is a need to develop the kinds of furniture in the office to ensure that they suit the task
performance in that environment. The furniture should make sure that the monitor is well positions
to enable the operator to sit upright. The mouse should also be placed in a position that allows the
person to relax his hands while typing and while handling the mouse. These improvements are
aimed at increasing productivity of workers without affecting their health in the office. In
conclusion, the increasing rate of poor health conditions in the rooms due to improper office
environment setup is a problem that might result in low productivity among the workers. It is
therefore important to ensure that the management provides good furniture that prevents too much
straining by their employees.

Working In A Multicultural Environment
This chapter talks about working in a multicultural environment. In the Student Support Center, all
types of student come in and out for help. The reason is because we have different types of students
on campus. Some of the people that work there are of a different culture. I enjoy meeting new
people in the center and hearing things they have to say. There are times where I could not
understand the things they would say but they have no problem with repeating themselves to help
me understand. The experiences I get with working in a multicultural environment would be very
helpful to me on my journey to become a social worker. There are a few Asian Americans that work

combined with my love of working with children. Wanting to create a positive impact for students

the necessary skills and experience you are seeking and would be a valuable addition to your school.
Trained as an educator with a Master's Degree from Xavier University, I taught in the public school

Improving A Successful Working Environment
Adaptability in the workplace is a necessity. In order for an employee to be successful, it is
imperative to remain flexible and accessible. Regardless of what your job title is, an employer needs
a well–rounded individual with the desire to help the organization succeed by any means possible.
Maintaining a certain level of adaptability can help create a successful working environment. Most
job descriptions often include a phrase or two regarding the right of management to add or rearrange
responsibilities at their discretion. For many years, it has always been the employee remaining
flexible for the employer. The new trend in employment is slowly shifting in flexibility. Not only are
employees expected to be flexible, but the employers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Working 9 to 5 became the way of life. Job duties stayed at work, while workers went home and
came back the next day to the same duties. Slowly, we evolved into a highly competitive and highly
demanding world that required more and more of the employees' time in and out of work. At some
point, something had to give. That giving eventually came from the employer. The flexible
workplace began with a simple concept and basic structure. According to the U.S. Department of
Labor website on work hours (n.d.), "A flexible work schedule is an alternative to the traditional 9 to
5, 40–hour work week. It allows employees to vary their arrival and/or departure times. Under some
policies, employees must work a prescribed number of hours a pay period and be present during a
daily core time." While many believe this definition of flextime to be the basis of flexible working,
the flexible workplace trend is growing even beyond that. The newest trends beyond flextime
include compressing the workweek, allowing flexible locations for work, job sharing, extended
leaves of absence, phased and partial retirements, and work/family programs. With an increasing
amount of support, flexible workplaces are rapidly growing within the United States. Let's take a
look at what flexibility in the workplace can mean. The following definitions were found in
Managing Human Resources by Scott Snell and George Bohlander (2013). Flextime: flexible

The Modern Companies Working Environment Around The Globe...
Analyzing the composition of the modern companies working environment around the globe, it can
be concluded that the workforce is quite diverse. This diversity of the company 's employees may be
determined by gender, race, age, religion, or physical characteristics. The importance of the
organization development is about understanding of how these characteristics of from the
organizational behavior. While many companies are willing to make a variety of work
environments, others find it difficult in terms of effective human resources management.
Generational diversity has become an essential element of many diversity strategies. Companies are
now managing a broader range of employees' work needs and experiences as well as career
development choices. For example, while younger generations are climbing the corporate ladder and
entering the workforce expecting fast–paced, highly inclusive workplaces that offer customizable
careers, retirement–eligible employees are delaying their retirement plans. By the same token,
professional development resources that were once relegated to entry–level and new employees
have become a necessity for workers at all levels. This broadening of employees' needs coupled with
the increased responsiveness on the part of many organizations, benefits gender diversity by helping
change the norms and expectations about the way employees' work, increasing awareness about
workplace trends in different cultural and national contexts, and promoting more

Also, people doing the same job equally well should be rewarded fairly. There is a moral and legal

sensitive to others, there are some simple steps to follow! 1. Be aware of judgements you make
about others. Are you prejudiced or prone to pre–judge other people? Are you likely to generalise

would considered to be the most important issue that nurses have to put up with on a regular bases is
what effects does the working environment have on nurses that work in the environment they either
have to conform to or find a way to put a stop to the issues the working environment has caused.

Structural empowerment Purdy et al. state "is the notion that removes conditions that foster
dependence and powerlessness within an organization that will result in a positive employee
behavior and improve performance" (Effects of work environments on nurse and patient outcomes)
which would cause a better working environment to work in. That being said I agree that being able
to feel as you have power as a nurse to be able to be able to say things and control a little of how
you work makes a nurse feel great about themselves as if they don't just have to watch and write
down all that the patient does or what the doctor say, it is like they actually have a voice in the
matter. "Psychological empowerment is defined as the psychological state employees must
experience for empowering interventions to be successful" (Smith Lesley, Andrusyszyn and
Laschinger Effects of workplace incivility and empowerment on newly graduated nurses_
organizational commitment). I would have to agree because if you have a good mind set about
things even if it the worst thing in the world it will not seem like it is. Having a good mind set
conquers all things. Smith et al. say that "the empowering interventions are as followed meaning,
confidence, autonomy and impact" (Smith, Andrusyszyn and Laschinger Effects of workplace
incivility and empowerment on newly graduated nurses_ organizational commitment). It is so true
the mind if you really think of it is made up of these things, and these are the things that get most
people through the day. For example having confidence in your work will make you feel as if you
can do anything at work as long as it is legal and you are able to do. I would say that they are on to

The Importance Of An Ideal Environment For Working...
All four processes– collaboration, consultation, teamwork, and co–teaching, as they occur in the
school context, involve interaction among school personnel, families, and students working together
to achieve common goals. (Dettmer, Dyck, Thurston, 2005, p. 7)
Keeping that in mind, my goal is to empower students by using all four processes. As professionals,
we must support students in attaining not only academic skills but also in developing the skills,
knowledge, and attitudes they need to become caring and successful citizens.
"Through collaboration, ideas can be shared, new and better strategies can be developed, problems
can be solved, students' progresses can be better monitored, and their outcomes are evaluated
effectively."¬ (Lee, 1996).
"Teamwork fuels group spirit, develops process skills that help teachers interact in more productive
ways, and fosters a more intellectual atmosphere." (Maeroff, 1993).
Another goal
2. What do you describe as an ideal environment for working together with students, their families,
co–educators, and related services personnel and support personnel in the community?
An ideal environment is one where we all work as a team and as a team; we must all share a
common goal. In order to create such environment, we must practice the following:
There should be trust amongst each other in order to be able to work together successfully.
According to Dettmer, Knackendoffel, & Thurston (2009), when we have trust, others are more

Women mainly held low paying jobs and never really worked in a position of authority. "The
research on working women in general tells us that there are very few differences between men and
women that affect job performance. Thus, men and women show no consistent differences in their
problem–solving abilities, analytical skills, competitive drive, motivation, learning ability, or
sociability. However, women are reported to be more conforming and to have lower expectations of
success than men do. Also, Women's absenteeism rates tend to be higher than those of men. This
latter finding may change, however, as we see men starting to play a more active role in raising
children; absenteeism is also likely to be less frequent as telecommuting, flexible working hours,
and the like become more prevalent. In respect to pay, women's earnings have risen slowly from 59
percent of men's in 1979 to 76 percent most recently"(2003,pg.63).
This research is basically showing that once men and women start acquiring the same roles in the
work and home environment, there is nothing excluding a woman from working a mans job.
Companies may soon realize it might be helpful to have a woman in a certain position to acquire a

The Impact Of Working Environment At Drayton Manor
Impact of working environment
In addition to guarantee the working environment at Drayton Manor complies with health and
safety, employers should ensure the work environment is as comfortable as possible for its staff.
A comfortable work environment would be important to the staff at Drayton Manor because without
it if the employees of Drayton Manor 's are not comfortable that would lead to their productivity
levels being low therefore decreasing their profits levels. If Drayton Manor employers do create a
comfortable work environment employees would be productive meaning that their would be an
increase of the profits that Drayton Manor makes. To increase their employees productivity levels
the employers at Drayton Manor should increase their staffs motivation levels which would then for
sure make them work more.
Accidents that occur in the working environment at Drayton Manor would commonly be caused by
things such as falling objects, hand tools and moving objects.
When the employers at Drayton Manor carry out risk assessment they should consider the risk to

Maintaining A Safe Working Environment
Keep Safe We spend more time working that we do with our families. Therefore, it is important to
make friendships, feeling like part of the work family and to have a have a safe work environment.
When an employee is able to do all of these, they will be happy and productive which will help
make the company more successful. There are five steps used when creating a safe work
environment. These are respect the wall, honor others, suspend judgment, value differences and be
trustworthy (Smalley, 2007). This paper will discuss how a coach can create a safe working
environment leading to healthy relationships in the work environment.
Respect the Wall
Respect wall is actually termed the relationship wall and is the first step in creating a safe
environment (Smalley, 2007). When you meet a person for the first time there is usually some
guarding of feelings, emotions and character from the other party. This is done to create a space
because the other person does not know you, nor do they trust you yet. This happens to a new
employee when they start a new job or position. They feel very uncomfortable and out of place in
the new surroundings. This is the perfect opportunit for a company to assign a coach. The coach can
do several things to make them feel like part of the team. These include mentoring, showing them
around, introducing them to other employees, helping with paperwork and discussing them their
new responsibilities. However, a coach can not come in with a

One of the main reasons staff members quit is the relationship with their first–line supervisor. The

Personal Narrative: Working In The Corporate Environment
When I was 10 years old, I had the fortune of having my mom work in Charlotte. During the
summer breaks between school, I would head to work with her and experience what it was like to
work in the corporate environment. Honestly, I was amazed by the professionalism and the setting
that it was in. So, at the age of 11, I wrote myself a note to myself proclaiming that I will work to
someday work in the corporate environment. Like most high schoolers starting out, I didn't have a

The advisor spent over 30 years in banking, leading a local bank and chairing one of the largest

model. In that meeting he invited me to take a finance course that he was teaching, and like every
interested pupil, I took it. Unfortunately, near a quarter into the course, my advisor, role model, and
now instructor, unexpectedly passed away. I was left heartbroken, feeling that I just lost a family

Managing The Working Environment And Supports The Overall...
As a business leader, when I review a situation or event, especially with regards to financials, by
means of complex mathematical and statistical modeling I am using quantitative analysis. The
Human resources department is a critical component to managing the working environment and
supports the overall business strategy. Through a quantitative understanding of company problems, I
and my fellow Human Resource associates can identify, analyze and solve problems. Quantitative
analysis offers a systematic methodology for utilizing raw data and information. I know that
quantitative methods allow my department to produce accurate none biased reports that help shape
our company. The derived facts and information can therefore be considered to better position the
department in maintaining and growing our success within retention, hiring and job satisfaction.
While Human resources is greatly focused in recruiting and hiring the right people, many HR
professionals work in many facets beyond hiring. As a human resource professional, I work within
an array of company segments, which are not entirely based in hiring or recruiting. My duties are
inclusive of unemployment reporting, hiring, workers' compensation, tax payments, reconciliations,
healthcare audits, 401K payments etc. Among those responsibilities, I also serve as the company's
chief payroll officer. Thus, I work hand in hand with our finance and accounting departments to
ensure that our payroll expenditures are

Building A Working Environment For A Small Coffee Shop Essay
Scenario
A property developer is converting an old railway station into retail and office accommodation. The
client is keen to make the working environment for the staff as comfortable as possible. As a
consultant, explain how this can be done by addressing the relevant grading criteria.
Introduction
I am hoping to convert this railway station into an office with a small coffee shop also in the
building. The railway station is very old and hard to heat, so there will have to be a large amount of
work done to make the building a nice place for people to work. There also isn't any lighting in the
surrounding area so I will have to think about that when I am contracting the building proposal. The
three factors that will have to be considered are Heat, Lighting and Acoustics, these are the main
things that will ensure comfort within the offices and corner shop if they are at the optimum level. I
will now work through the assignment and always think of the changes required to transform the
railway station into an office.
Task 1
Task A:
Identify and describe the basic factors that will influence human comfort in the retail & office
accommodation in thermal, acoustic and visual terms.
There are three main factors that influence human comfort in the office setting, these are: Thermal
terms, Acoustic Terms and Visual terms. Thermal terms include the clothing of an employee or the
air temperature in the workplace. Air temperature is arguably the most important factor that

Ideal Working Environment For Nurses
Tasha, You must have enjoyed working in your unit. I enjoyed reading your post about your
experience at work. What is more, you are fortunate that your manager is cognizant of safe staffing
and responsive to that need. From my working experience to multiple hospitals, every one of them
was exposed to the national patient safety goals (NPSG). Although the majority promotes the NPSG,
few consistently look after the staffing needs. Nickitas, Middaugh, and Aries (2016) attested to the
studies confirming fatigue and long hours of work attribute to inattention that leads to medical
errors. I believe this important factor on staffing issue may be related to the nursing shortages. To be

The Reflection Of Working In An Enterprise Environment
Throughout the semester, I worked at Central Community School District 301 in the information
technology department and worked on many different projects. This experience was very impactful
because it taught things that classes have a hard time doing or and not able to teach at all. Working
in an enterprise environment took all the information that I have gained from computer science
classes and focused them into one point. Which is, to be able to work on a team and to be able to
create and understand enterprise level software. Most of my time at CCUSD 301 included of me
working on self–hosted internal education tools for teacher and student use, and creating and
updating different automation task that made some manual time consume task, very easy or non–
existence at all or working on self–hosted learning programs for teacher and student use. One of the
first projects was for me to make a program that took a picture from a camera renamed it to a
normalized name convention and then move it to the correct directory, so that a ID printing software
could select the correct picture to print it on the ID. When I first received this project I was thinking,
this will be easy because it was just like I did in CSCI 330, UNIX and Network Programming. The
only problem was that it had to run on a Windows server and not Linux. Python was already
installed on the server for another task, so my manager said that I could use it or any other scripting
language that I felt most comfortable with. I chose Python because I did not know many other
languages at the time and because I just started taking CSCI 490K which was a class about Python
to solve different problems. After doing research and getting assistant from other members of the
team I was able to test and complete the program. Throughout the semester, I came back to this
script to refine it after learning new concepts in class to make it more efficient and handle errors
better. One of the next projects, also one of the largest was for me to make a new script that
interfaced with a Google for education administrator console API in order to manage 8,000
Chromebooks. This was the first project that was given a firm dead line for completion because
there was around 4,000

Employers and employees have the legal duty to ensure that the working environment is a safe and
secure one.
Employer responsibilities are: to ensure, so far as it is reasonable practicable, that the working
environment is a secure and healthy one for all employees and for other persons that may come in
contact assuring that all the information is drawn to everybody's attention.
On the other hand the Employee's responsibilities are: When doing their job, take care not to harm
themselves or the others Respect the rules and co–operate with employers in order to meet the
statutory requirements Not to misuse anything provided to protect their safety, health and welfare
2. Explain the purpose of following health, safety and security procedures in a business
environment.
Having specific procedures regarding health, safety and security and follow them is a very important
aspect in a business environment.
One reason for following the health, safety and security procedures is the legal aspect. Both the
employers and employee must comply with the law and rules: the organisation must take specific
actions (prepare documentation on the procedures and choosing personnel to be responsible for this
aspect), the staff and other persons must respect the procedures.
Another reason is the moral one: the purpose of following the procedures is to make sure no one
comes to any harm. This aspect refers to both of the parties (the

actions in companies. Currently, the world's six most widely used management tools are as
follows:Strategic Planning, Customer Relationship Management, Employee Engagement Surveys,
Benchmarking, Outsourcing and Balanced Scorecard. Of which Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is an
idea that has not came out for a long period but has been discussed a lot. This essay will examine the

Rigby and Bilodeau (2015) reported in Bain's Management tools and trends survey that BSC ranked
the top six worlds' most popular tools of 2014. It also achieved high satisfaction among executives.
It was noticed that the usage rates of BSC vary by regions with slightly higher usage in EMEA
(44%), North America (39%) and Latin America (39%) and lower usage in APAC (28%). The BSC
is widely used in all types of companies including businesses, non–profit companies and
government organizations although different companies create their own unique BSC approach
corresponding to their key success factors and operation mode.
The balanced scorecard can act as different roles in a company. When acting as a measurement of
performance, BSC follows two steps. Firstly, it draws objectives and measures from the company's
overall strategy. In other worlds, it converts the vague strategy into detailed actions. Then, by using
these objectives and measures as a benchmark, the performance are evaluated from four different
aspects including the financial, customer, internal–business–process and learning and growth
perspective (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). The financial perspective concentrates on financial health of
a company, it is the most direct way for executives to measure organization performance. Usually,
the good performance of the other three perspectives of the scorecard will lead to good results of
financial performance as the four perspectives are interrelated. In terms of

Collaborative Working Environments Have Played a Big Role...
Collaboration is a working method whereby employees work together to a similar purpose of
achieving a business benefit. Collaboration can also be the ability to operate together in business to
enhance performance and results. The combination of a number of factors may assist or steer
collaboration to attain business results, via empowerment and technology. Globalization is a quickly
developing incorporation of economies and societies around the globe, leading to rising
connectivity, combination and interdependence in the social, technological, economical, and

Global collaboration Globalization transforms the business environment as it modifies the factors
influencing the attractiveness of markets and transforms the strategies that are efficient to compete
in those markets. For example, large motor companies are continually becoming sensitive to the
pressures of international markets to cope with the shortened life cycles of vehicles, increasingly
innovative models, and adaptation to evolving customer demands. Products are progressively
becoming more complex and require higher level skills and integration of services. Manufacturing
companies deal with this situation by introducing networks of advanced suppliers that are capable of
operating across the whole life product cycle and across distinct generations of a goods innovation.
Such moves are based in new market models governing collaboration. For example, when a firm is
involved in a business where all the competitors and many clients are international players.
Therefore, this firm considers globalization as a primary goal. The company adopts various
organizational approaches to support collaboration on a distance e.g. generally unifying meetings
and team building programs. For collaboration tools, the firm prepares for an international
collaborative working space surrounding in addition to the collaboration tools being used such as
Lotus Notes, blogs and wikis. The company manufacturing the Smart Car serves consumers in many

Organizational Culture Influences The Working Environment
Organizational culture influences the working environment for employees and in healthcare
organizations, the culture also effects patient outcomes. André, Sjøvold, Rannestad, & Ringdal,
(2014) report, "researchers have also found that nurses working in contexts with more positive
culture, leadership and evaluation reported more research utilization, staff development and lower
rates of patients and staff adverse events" (p. 449). Therefore, it is important that health care
organizations focus on establishing a positive culture. Research shows that positive work
environments have similar characteristics. Nurse leaders are in an optimal position to influence
organizational culture.
Current Workplace Culture
The current workplace culture at Dartmouth Hitchcock, is a positive one this is shown by biannual
staff satisfaction surveys. The most recent staff satisfaction survey reports that staff are engaged and
like their jobs. Nurses report they feel they have a voice and matter to their direct managers, as they
feel comfortable approaching their managers with concerns. Magnet Recognition is being pursued
which further provides an infrastructure of shared decision making for nurses as well as additional
quality indicators (American Nurse Credentialing Center). Mentor and preceptor training programs
are offered and encouraged for staff that train new employees to ensure they possess the skills they
need to develop new staff. A zero tolerance policy is being developed to

Creating An Effective Working Environment And...
The three learner profile attributes that I believe are most important in creating an effective working
environment and collaborative team are open–minded, communicator and inquirer.
They will need to be open–minded learners because to properly adapt to new situations, and new
environments with different people they'll have to understand there's more than one way to do things
which'll help them become better leaders. This will benefit the team, because everyone will learn
from each other and their different cultures. They'll learn from the places they'll be visiting and
they'll all get the chance to see the world from different points of view. As they do this they will be
trying new experiences together which will help them become closer and will let them build on
previous ideas by using the knowledge they've gained from the new experiences. For these reasons,

Working Environment, Performance Management Essay
"We define performance management as the process through which managers ensure that employees
activities and outputs are congruent with the organization's goals" (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, &
Wright, 2016 ). In today 's working environment, performance management allows dialogue around
performance improvement, which happens to be a system that many company 's have adapted. With
there being high competition to build up an exemplary employee and be able to maintain them
different companies are rewarding and recognizing employees in different ways. There are
companies that believe that in order to motivate and retain an employee there has to be an incentive.
However, there are other companies that think the complete opposite, and believe that an employee
will work harder and be more motivated when the job is a non commission base role or an incentive
is expected. Argumentation/Discussion There are two different perspectives when it comes it
incentives. The argument for companies that believe incentives are a great way to drive the growth
and profit of the company is as follow. Incentives motivate an employee, and there are experts that
state that bonuses, rewards and incentives attract an employee to improve their work performance,
and meet deadlines. It is believed that incentives creates loyalty and trust between the employee and
its employer improving its relationship. There was a research with MIT students, and they were

How I Operate Within A Working Environment

  • 1. How I Operate Within A Working Environment Introduction Self–reflection is the key in gaining an outlook of a student's strengths and weaknesses. By understanding these characteristics, one can take action to improve upon them. Within this assignment I will discuss the tasks and challenges that the company Midland Heart has presented. This will involve reflecting upon such challenges to assess how I operate within a working environment. My primary role was to shadow the manager of the law team to study the ways in which she organises and communicate with her staff. The bulk of my role involved going through housing cases to understand how the law team is used as a function within the business. Furthermore I also worked with various other departments to understand their roles in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality however, there were a number of times where I asked for assistance particularly regarding some of the legal documents. In retrospect, I should have asked for more detail about certain jobs to clarify some of the terms. Further to this I had to ensure that my progress was being monitored and developed and this was maintained by semi regular meetings and informal conversations. Reflecting on my first work placement, it was rare to have such meetings which often left it difficult to understand how my skills were being developed. Macduff (2012, p. 24) supports Cooks previous point going on to suggest that settling within the second year is seen as more advantageous as there is a natural improvement in confidence. Despite this I still struggled to confidently operate as Midland Heart was such a drastic difference to Savers. This oversight could have been avoided if I had discussed the issue with either my tutor or manager to gain an insight into the correct office etiquette. Networking One of the purposes of pursuing a work placement is to meet working people to understand how they work. Brooks (2012) establishes that networking within your organisation could also help an employee with future job opportunities. It was therefore important to utilise this opportunity to gain a number of contacts in a field that I was interested in. As my previous placement was in an organisation that I already worked for, it was difficult to find new contacts. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Working Your Way Back Into The Workplace Environment Regardless of the amount of time you took off to recuperate after a mental health crisis, you need to make sure that you take the necessary steps to maintain your well–being. Working your way back to become healthy again is just as, or sometimes more difficult than actually undergoing the mental health crisis you endured. However, taking the appropriate steps after an emotionally or psychologically draining event can be overwhelming as you figure out how to assimilate back into the workplace environment. Seek out help from professionals and stay connected until you have recovered 100% Gathering enough information from professionals in the psychiatric and psychological fields will allow you to access the point where you are seeing improvement in your day to day. Staying connected with the professionals that guide you in your life is absolutely essential when it comes to making strides to overcome the obstacle you had faced for so long. Positive thinking It can be helpful to think about future goals and think less about what happened in the past. Loehr works with a psychiatrist and life coach to focus on where she is trying to go in life, versus focusing on the hurtful situations she has gone through. As a result, one of the goals of her coaching company is to help spread kindness and provide actual solutions to help prevent people with mental health issues from suffering as much and as long as she did in her past. • 3. The Importance Of Creating And Managing A Culturally... Introduction Maya Angelou, a famous African American poet, once said, "We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their colour," (Angelou & Johnson, 2014). This quote shows how cultural diversity is widely believed to be a benefit to society, but how do these benefits stretch to the context of a business? This review will be looking into literature surrounding the question, what are the key outcomes of creating and managing a culturally diverse working environment? Over 20 years ago, a prediction was made that the demographics of the workforce would start to change significantly and researchers and writers began endorsing the need for organisations to create supportive workplaces where diversity is valued, (Cox, 1994). "They have argued that diversity is a double–edged sword; it has the potential for positive and negative outcomes," (Chrobot–Mason & Aramovich, 2013). Chrobot–Mason and Aramovich (2013) also added that the way to ensure positive outcomes from diversity was the effective management of the workplace. This review will be exploring how effective management of a diverse workforce can bring about positive outcomes for employees and whole organisations through increased senses of identity for workers leading to lower turnover rates, and increased innovation within an organisation. Results of the study show that 55% of millennials agreed with the implementation of a formal mentoring program, as opposed to just 22.86% of non–millennials. An explanation for the result is that millennials are still at the onset of their professional career and the non–millennial cohort make up a larger percent of upper management. What this means is that development may not be a need or benefit given that a significant amount of non–millennials are already in leadership positions. The United States Air Force General Michael V. Hayden, stated, ''only if we mentor effectively – only if we teach our new recruits and learn from them – will we achieve the objectives of our Strategic Intent" (Hershatter, & Epstein, p.220.) Through mentoring programs, organizations can create applicable means for millennials to interact with management. Job duties stayed at work, while workers went home and came back the next day to the same duties. Slowly, we evolved into a highly competitive and highly demanding world that required more and more of the employees' time in and out of work. At some point, something had to give. That giving eventually came from the employer. The flexible workplace began with a simple concept and basic structure. According to the U.S. Department of Labor website on work hours (n.d.), "A flexible work schedule is an alternative to the traditional 9 to 5, 40–hour work week. It allows employees to vary their arrival and/or departure times. Under some policies, employees must work a prescribed number of hours a pay period and be present during a daily core time." While many believe this definition of flextime to be the basis of flexible working, the flexible workplace trend is growing even beyond that. The newest trends beyond flextime include compressing the workweek, allowing flexible locations for work, job sharing, extended leaves of absence, phased and partial retirements, and work/family programs. With an increasing amount of support, flexible workplaces are rapidly growing within the United States. Let's take a look at what flexibility in the workplace can mean. The importance of the organization development is about understanding of how these characteristics of from the organizational behavior. While many companies are willing to make a variety of work environments, others find it difficult in terms of effective human resources management. Generational diversity has become an essential element of many diversity strategies. Companies are now managing a broader range of employees' work needs and experiences as well as career development choices. For example, while younger generations are climbing the corporate ladder and entering the workforce expecting fast–paced, highly inclusive workplaces that offer customizable careers, retirement–eligible employees are delaying their retirement plans. By the same token, professional development resources that were once relegated to entry–level and new employees have become a necessity for workers at all levels. All four processes– collaboration, consultation, teamwork, and co–teaching, as they occur in the school context, involve interaction among school personnel, families, and students working together to achieve common goals. (Dettmer, Dyck, Thurston, 2005, p. 7) Keeping that in mind, my goal is to empower students by using all four processes. As professionals, we must support students in attaining not only academic skills but also in developing the skills, knowledge, and attitudes they need to become caring and successful citizens. "Through collaboration, ideas can be shared, new and better strategies can be developed, problems can be solved, students' progresses can be better monitored, and their outcomes are evaluated effectively."¬ (Lee, 1996). "Teamwork fuels group spirit, develops process skills that help teachers interact in more productive ways, and fosters a more intellectual atmosphere." (Maeroff, 1993). Another goal 2. What do you describe as an ideal environment for working together with students, their families, co–educators, and related services personnel and support personnel in the community? An ideal environment is one where we all work as a team and as a team; we must all share a common goal. In order to create such environment, we must practice the following: There should be trust amongst each other in order to be able to work together successfully. According to Dettmer, Knackendoffel, & Thurston (2009), when we have trust, others are more likely to: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women mainly held low paying jobs and never really worked in a position of authority. "The research on working women in general tells us that there are very few differences between men and women that affect job performance. Thus, men and women show no consistent differences in their problem–solving abilities, analytical skills, competitive drive, motivation, learning ability, or sociability. However, women are reported to be more conforming and to have lower expectations of success than men do. Also, Women's absenteeism rates tend to be higher than those of men. This latter finding may change, however, as we see men starting to play a more active role in raising children; absenteeism is also likely to be less frequent as telecommuting, flexible working hours, and the like become more prevalent. In respect to pay, women's earnings have risen slowly from 59 percent of men's in 1979 to 76 percent most recently"(2003,pg.63). This research is basically showing that once men and women start acquiring the same roles in the work and home environment, there is nothing excluding a woman from working a mans job. Companies may soon realize it might be helpful to have a woman in a certain position to acquire a certain goal in mind. Therefore, it is important to make friendships, feeling like part of the work family and to have a have a safe work environment. When an employee is able to do all of these, they will be happy and productive which will help make the company more successful. There are five steps used when creating a safe work environment. These are respect the wall, honor others, suspend judgment, value differences and be trustworthy (Smalley, 2007).
