1. Analysis of the Article
This is my double page spread article; I chose to do my article on a male solo artist as I
feel I could then focus my attention more on one person rather than having to worry about
unnecessary added artists. Pop artists appeal to both male and females so I didn't mind
which I chose my artist to be, in the end I chose male because I could ask some more
personal questions in the interview in my article which would intrigue the audience. The
other issue we created was based on female artists so that the male and female genders
are targeted equally.
In my article I have included interesting and topical facts the audience would want to
know about the artist. The facts include background knowledge of the artist. The facts are
interesting and I don't go into too much depth about them as it would become tedious to
the reader. I have also included links to other aspects relating to our genre. For example I
included about how Mister Mahan has his own clothing range which suits the target
audience age range and popular interests. Including vital information about tour dates and
ticket sales was important as this is what publicist’s artists and without their fans
they wouldn't be successful. The language is casual and relaxed this is because the age
range of our target audience is not likely to want to read bulky formal pieces of text. It
also suits the style of genre, because Pop is relaxed and casual.
Nearer the end of my double page spread is a small interview. I find that this is a good
feature as it breaks up the amount of text there is on the page and it also intriguing to the
audience, it attracts their attention. I wanted to pull quotes from the
article and interview as well gets the audience to want to read it even more. I have used a
quote from a well-known pop artist, Robbie Williams, as he relates well to the genre of
the magazine and he is also well known, and I feel people would be interested in his
opinion in the artist. I feel i concluded the article well by informing them on how to get
dates and tickets on the artist and giving them an external source to find the information
from, just like any magazine article would do.
In every issue of out magazine we are going to have a section titled 'album of the month'
this is so the regular readers see that the magazine has a consistent featured page and
becomes reliable.
To conclude, I feel that my article for my double page spread turned out to be effective
and exciting to the reader. I made sure it had factual information about the artist as well
as general information. The interview part of the article was a casual conversation so the
audience found it fun to read and didn’t find it tedious. I feel the article was well thought
out. During the creating stage parts were edited, added and enhanced depending on the
placement on the double page spread.
