show relationships of time, cause and effect, contrast, and condition.
– Examples
a. You have to go, whether you like it or not.
b. Whether you like it or not, you have to go.
– Rules
– In a and b: whether you like it or not is an adverb clause of time.
– When an adverb clause precedes a main clause, as in a, a comma is
used to separate the clauses.

sentence in written English. Connect to a main clause.
– Example

– d. He went to take a shower because he was tired.
In c and d, because introduces an adverb clause that shows a causeand-effect relationship.
