The document discusses how elements were used to link together the main music video, advertisement, and digipak products. Hair, makeup, colors, fonts, and main characters were consistent across all three to provide continuity. The same font was used to help the audience associate it with the artist's brand. Genre-appropriate elements like casual clothing helped convey the indie pop genre. Consistent factors included a focus on the tight bond between the two artists and their portrayal as a duo. The digipak used a magic wand tool effect across it to make the branding look edgy. Each product's unique selling point was highlighted - the friendship theme for branding and a narrative video storyline depicting a modern homosexual relationship.

1. How effective is the
combination of your
main product and
ancillary texts?

2. How we used elements to
combine our main products
When making our music video, advertisement and digi pak we tried to make the three link together as much as
possible through the use of different elements. This included costume, hair and make up, colours, fonts and the main
characters/artists themselves. These different elements would be shown throughout the three different ancillary texts.
Hair & make up was a significant factor during the production as we wanted to ensure the main characters didn’t look
drastically different when we put the shots together, for continuity reasons. For example, my hair is the same colour
and length as well as style throughout the music video, except when I am running as it needed to be tied up, in the
advertisement and in the digi pak, this is effective because we wouldn’t want the audience to notice an obvious
difference. This helps the continuity of the music video and gives the ancillary texts a stronger look as they all link
together which is what we wanted.
Our use of fonts were also a big part of the digi pak and advertisement as this helped us also keep continuity as well as
create a brand for ourself, we used the same font in each ancillary text to make sure this continuity progressed, this
was effective as the audience would be able to assign the font to our artist and they would be able to spot our brand
before having even read the advertisement or digi pak. This would then mean our audience could associate this font
with our music video as they would of seen it in two different areas. Font was also important as we had to make sure
the font we chose was relevant to the genre indie pop, so choosing a classical font, for example, wouldn’t be effective
as it could be misleading for the audience.
3. What is consistent across the production?
● Throughout the whole production we knew our genre was going to be indie pop. This was because our audience was going
to be teens and young adults ant this is a genre which appeals with this age bracket. Therefore, we needed to convey this
through the products. For instance, our actors in the video wear casual clothes like shirts and jackets, this is rather indie
clothing so will appeal to our targeted audience.
● Another thing which was consistent throughout was our strong idea of having the artists have a really tight bond, this links
to our ancillary texts as we studied groups like ‘The Script’ and ‘Little Mix’. These artists have a strong bond which makes
them even more appealing as you know that they are genuine and nice. Therefore, by advertising ourselves as ‘Sibling’ it
shows how we have a tight bond and will make the audience more interested in our artists as they have created their brand
out of a friendship. This links to real artists as bands in the industry have special relations.
● Another consistent factor throughout the process was the fact there is only two people. For instance, in the video it focuses
on two people, similarly on the advertisement and digi pak, there are only two people. This is effective because it keeps it
simple and the audience would be able to identify the duo and artist branding as a boy and a girl.
● We also consistently used the magic wand tool throughout the digi pak. This is a tool on adobe photo shop which creates a
jagged cut out effect on the artists faces. This is effective as it makes the branding look edgy and cool. Magic wand tool
effect across digi pak
4. What is the USP of each product?
● Our unique selling point stems from the friendship we portray between our artists, for
instance, they share a brother and sister bond which we portray through the artists
name ‘Sibling’ as well as the combination of their faces on the digi pak, this unique as
there aren’t that many boy/girl duos who are successful in the industry so we are filling
that spot as it is something different which the audience would find interesting.
● The videos unique selling point would be the story line in the video. This is because we
took narrative ideas from other artists and combined them to create our own video. The
use of having a homosexual relationship is effective because this is a modern stance
and hopefully would show diversity and acceptance which many music videos don’t do.
