GENERAL  DEFINATION OFTUNNEL:- TUNNELS ARE UNDERGROUND ARTIFICIAL PASSAGES OR ROADWAYS USED FOR TRANSPORTATION.THEY COULD BE USED FOR CARRYING WATER,SEWAGE,GASES,PASSENGERS ETC.THE METHODS INVOLVE ARE UNDERGROUND OPERATIONS KNOWN AS TUNNEL DRIVING ANDTHE GROUND SURFACE IS NOT DISTURBED.
  • 4. B. NEED OF THE PROJECT THE EXISTING PIPELINES IN MUMBAI ARE 110 YRS. OLD ANDTHEY ARE ABOVETHE EARTH SURFACE SOTHEREWERE CORROSION AND SAFETY ISSUES DUETO SALTYWATER AND HIGH HUMIDITY ALSO EXPECTED POPULATION OF MUMBAITILL 2021WILL BE 163.5 LACS AND 2051 WILL BE AROUND 200.43 LACS SOTHEREWILL BE NEED OF MORE WATER SUPPLIES SO WATER PIPELINES ARE NEEDED FOR FULFILLING FUTURE DEMANDS. FOR MEETING ALLTHESE PROBLEMS UNDERGROUND WATER SUPPLY TUNNEL IS CONSTRUCTED.

  • 7. 3. SCOPE OF THE PROJECT  SURVEYING FOR FIXING LOCATION OF SHAFTAND ALIGMENT OFTUNNEL BETWEENTHE SHAFT.  CONSTRUCTION OFVERTICAL SHAFT BY CONVENTIONAL DRILLING AND CONTROLLED BLASTING METHOD  PROVIDE CONCRETE REINFORCEMENTTO THE PIPES SHAFT,ANCHOR BOLTS ETC.

CONSTRUCTION METHODOLOGY  A.WELL SINKING THEWELL FOUNDATIONGENERALLY CONSIST OF CONSTRUCTION OFTHEWELLS AND SINKINGTHEM DOWNTOTHE REQUIRE LEVEL BY DREDGING OFTHE SOIL AND OTHER MATERIAL,PLUGGINGTHE BOTTOM. DEWATERING INSIDETHEWELL AND GROUTINGTHE ROCK ATTHE JUNCTION OF THEWELL ANDTHE ROCKTO CONTROL LEAKAGEOFWATER.
  • 10.  B. SHAFT CONSTRUCTION DETAILED SURVEY IS CARRIED OUTTO ESTABLISHTHE LENGTHAND BEARING OF TUNNEL BETWEENTWO SHAFT. AFTER SINKING OFWELL,THE SHAFT ISTO CONSTRUCTWITH CONTROL BLASTING.FORTHE CONTROLLED BLASTING OF SHAFT,THE DRILLING PATTERN IS MADE. GEOLOGICAL INSPECTION IS CARRYING OUTAT VARIOUS LOCATION DURINGTHEWORK. IFTHE ROCK ISWEAK,POOR IT IS SUPPORTED SUITABLY BY PROVIDING LAGGINGAND BACK FILLINGWITH CONCRETE (M25 GRADE).
  • 11.  C.TUNNEL CONSTRUCTION THETUNNEL IS EXCAVATED USING 6.25 M DIA MODERN FULL FACETBM INCLUDING COMMUNICATION FACILITIES,LIGHTINING,SAFETY MEASURES ETC. FOR LINING OFTHETUNNELTHE CONCRETE USED IS OF GRADE M25 OF REQUIRED SLUMP OF 90-120 MM
