2. DEFINITIION:-
Keratoconus is a bilateral , non inflammatory ,
progressive ectasia of the cornea characterized by
thinning and steepening of the vision due to irregular
myopic astigmatism .
AREA AFFECTED:-
Cornea
VISUAL DISTURBANCES:-
Progressive decrease in visual acuity .
No definite visual field defect but general distortion of
field is noted .
Monocular diplopia may occur as the disorder progresses
3. LOW VISION MANAGEMENT OF KERATOCONUS
A combination of piggyback lens system in case of RGP lens
intolerance
Pinhole lens may be necessary to prevent “ Ghost Image’’ .
CPF , tinted or filter lenses are helpful to avoid glare and
photophobia .
Some response to magnification at distance and near with
more success with CCCTV at near .
Keratoconus manifests in adolescent years and can
progress slowly , stabilizing during middle age or can advance
rapidly requiring keratoplasty .
