2. The album title is Bi-on-ic and the image that has been used for the album cover is a picture
of Christina Aguilera but the picture has been edited to have half of her face as her normal,
usual face, but the other half has been made to look robotic by having pipework and
industrial looking machinery in her face. The title ‘Bi-on-ic’ could connote that is now a
machine and that she is constantly pumping out new song after song, it could also connote
to some sort of improvement in her or her music, as having a ‘bionic’ aspect to a person
would be to improve them in some way.
The only image used is the one of her face, it is a close up picture which includes all of her
head and the top of her shoulders. This shows that she is the main focus of the album, and
because of the robotic (bionic) implementations on the picture it could suggest something
about her, about how she is changing or trying to explain how hard she works by being a
machine
The genre of the album could be a few different genres, where her name is on the album is
has drips of colour coming from the lettering, ‘Christina’ is in black colouring or black ink
running down from the lettering, ‘Aguilera’ is in red and it has red colouring or ink dripping
down from the lettering, this could connote to some sort of gothic or punk rock genre, the
way that the robotic aspect of Christina has been drawn it also looks rather gothic so this
would suggest this as well. Though Christina Aguilera isn't known for that genre, more the
genre of pop or soul music.
3. There is no main image on the album ‘Life in Cartoon Motion’ the album is just covered in
drawings and different designs and patterns. Most of the pictures on the front are references to
the songs that are apart of the album, there is a small girl with a lollipop in reference to ‘Lollipop’
and a ‘big girl’ in reference to ‘Big Girls’. There is a wide colour range on the cover, though they
are all light, ‘happy’ colours, from yellows to blues to greens, this connotes a happiness to the
album, suggests to the listener that they are going to have a fun time listening to the album.
There is one change in the album cover, there is a picture of Mika himself, it isn't the focus of the
album as you don’t really notice the image when you first look at the album, this would suggest
that Mika cares more about the music than he does promoting himself, the fact that the picture of
him is in a sort of sepia tone and isn't as happy as the rest of the album could suggest that all of
the cartoons on the album could be stemming from Mika’s mind and it could be showing how he
sees the world or how he processes the world.
The album suggests a pop genre and a very happy set of songs which could have deeper
meanings, this matches with what Mika has produced before, he is known for his pop, rock and
glam rock genres of music.
This album, just from the cove could appeal to teenagers, most likely girls, as it is colourful and
fun, if you look deeper into the songs as well there are some rather women empowering songs on
the album like ‘Big Girls’
4. This album, ‘The Slim Shady LP’ has very dark tones to it and you can see these as soon as you
see it, the overall colouring is very dark and this would suggest that Slim Shady will be addressing
some more dark or serious topics, but also because it is Slim Shady he will not rap about them in a
serious way, that is really only if you know who Slim Shady is and the type of music he makes, if
you didn't know then you would still be put off by the way that ‘Slim Shady’ is written in the bottom
right hand corner. It is typed in a font that makes it look like a child had written it, this connotes that
Slim Shady could be a childish person and the fact that the letters are all different colours this also
adds to these thoughts.
The main image on the album cover is of someone on a pier, with a car, you can only see the trunk
of the car and it is open, you can see that there is a body in the trunk, this suggests that the album
could have some very serious topics in it as it could talk about death or loneliness. The
childishness of the ‘Slim Shady’ is in juxtaposition to the dark colouring of the rest of the album,
and the body in the car and the exaggerated moon in the background which has been edited to
look bigger. Also the parental advisory sticker in the corner shows that this CD is not family
friendly.
The person on the pier has a small child with them at their side, dressed in what looks like the
same clothing as the main person, this could be the ‘Slim Shady’ of the person which would
explain the child's handwriting, this could be a large metaphor to explain how the artist has the
mind of a child.
5. The back of ‘The Slim Shady LP’ album is different to the front, though it has the same
colouring, a dark blue overlay, it is different as it has a picture of Slim Shady, he has his hands
on his head and his eyes shut, this could mean many things, it could mean that he is tired, tired
in the general sense, or tired in the sense that he is bored of what he is doing or with what
attention he could be getting. The image of Slim Shady is obviously the main focus of the
backside of the album as the song names and numbers are put around the picture, showing its
importance.
Also the names of the songs on the CD are written so that they work around the image of Slim
Shad, which is once again showing his importance and symbolises how he is in charge and he
is needed for the centre of attention when it comes the back of the CD case.
