2. Does I Wanna Go by Britney Spears
have a feminist music video
Feminism could be described as a few things, one being women
fighting to become equal to men in different aspects of society; or
it could be women fighting to be more equal than men, this would
be described as radical feminism because they say they are
fighting for equality when they aren’t.
Pop stars like Britney Spears have a sort of job that they didn’t
actually sign up for, they are seen as an icon and are judged on
how they present themselves to the public and they show
different views through their songs, I Wanna Go by Britney
Spears is supposed to be a pro-feminist song and promote
feminism.
3. Spears starts to swear at the press because of the
questions that they are asking her, this could be seen as
feminist because the female artist is standing up to
accusations which are usually placed on female artists,
even if the questions in the video aren’t the usual
questions asked to an artist.
4. Spears grabs the male fans butt, if the genders were
switched then this would be seen as wrong, but
because spears is a female artist she is allowed to and
no negative connotations are applied here because of
thee genders involved.
5. As Spears is walking down the street both the man at
the payphone and the baby in the buggy, who are both
male look after Spears and are obviously appreciating
her body, Spears is saying here that men really only
care about her because of her body.
6. When Spears flashes the police officer the boy and dad
behind them see and they are mesmerised by Spears
and the child is holding a carton of milk which he is
gripping so hard that milk is spilling out, that is a
connotation to male genitalia. Spears is saying in this
scene that she has sexual control over men because of
her body.
7. Spears has just had sex with this policeman to get
out of getting into trouble, Spears could
be expressing sexual freedom or sexual control,
could be trying to empower women by implying that
you can use sex to get what you want, and you can
use it to get out of situations.
8. The male paparazzi are surrounding Spears, and she
is having to fight them off with her microphone. This
could be implying that female artists need to stand up
against paparazzi problems, like phone hacking or
pictures being leaked.
9. The paparazzi turn out to be robots, this could be
commenting on how the paparazzi never stop until they
get what they need.
10. Spears enjoys watching this man cover himself in
milk, this could be implying that she has sexual
freedom to enjoy what she likes to enjoy, and by this
showing that she is her own woman.
11. Is it Feminist?
Overall I think it is feminist, because it is showing a strong female
artist, but that does not mean that it is the correct feminist,
Spears is depicted in this video as being dressed in very
revealing clothes and being, I guess you could call it, sexually
free, but that is the least of the woman's problems when it comes
to fighting for feminism, I believe that Spears made this song for
the money not the message and that she used the feminist
overlay to get views and publicity.
