Types of Irony Is it strange how love can be a source of happiness, but also cause a lot of pain? Yet
people tend to search for love, and once these people find love it comes with both pleasure and ache.
Irony plays a role in love because love is what people perceive as joy but also causes hurt, yet
people still search for love. In Kate Chopin's Story of an Hour, there are different forms of literary,
situational, and dramatic irony used. The first type of irony which Kate Chopin uses is literary
irony. Literary irony is expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the

In the end of The Story of an Hour, Louise walks down stairs to see that Brently is actually alive
which causes Louise to fall into severe devastation and die. The last type of irony used in The
Story of an Hour is dramatic irony. Dramatic irony occurs when the meaning of the situation is
understood by the audience but not by the characters in the play. When the doctor in the story
says, "She had died of heart disease, of a joy that kills." The characters in the story, Josephine and
Richards, think Louise died out of joy when Brently is actually found to be alive rather than dead.
This realization causes Louise to fall into desolation and die because now she cannot live her life
freely. Dramatic irony also occurs when Josephine thinks Louise is sick in her room when she is
really experiencing joy. This falls under dramatic irony because Josephine thinks Louise is
becoming sick due to Brently's death, but the audience reading the story know that Louise is
actually full of joy. In The Story of an Hour, Kate Chopin uses these different types of literary,
situational, and dramatic irony in her story. Irony is the use of words to convey a meaning that is

Another minor dispute has escalated into yelling and screaming, throwing of objects and breaking
of hearts. Words that shouldn't be expressed between two loving people cause tears and feelings
of hatred, anger and disrespect. This is just one of many problems that could have been

It must be a case of "tough love." What could their child have done to have lost all rights of having
a roof overhead and being kicked out with nothing more than a bag of clothes and a couple dollars
for either some phone calls or some food? Still there are some who barely receive that. Truthfully
it's a hard pill to swallow when the reality of these adolescents having nobody to turn to because of
their heartbreaking lifestyles sets in. Being sexually, emotionally or physically abused by someone
close to home isn't any fault of their own; neither is having a parent or guardian who is more
focused on their next hit rather than handling responsibilities they unconsciously took on the
moment they realized they were bringing a child into this world. However, these underage people,
must learn to survive on their own two feet. What other choices do they have? Going to the police
and confiding in them 100% is a exhausting task in its own. These are the men and women who
took an oath and vowed to protect and serve each community with their entire being, but are the
same men and women who come to the "ghetto" or to the "'hood" and harass and arrest innocent
black men and black women for standing on the corner too long. A case of mistaken identity, right?

My personal definition would not include "stuff" at all. No one will care (and neither will you)
what kind of car your drove or how big your house was when you're on your deathbed. Your
thoughts will not be about your job, the office or how much money you made.
Personal success is defined by how content and enjoyable your life is. That is not to say that
challenges and disappointments aren't included in this. A rich, eventful and challenging life doing
what you enjoy and positively affecting others seems to me to be just about right. Find a job you

Past, present and future are all important to keep in perspective. Looking back and not having regrets
is extremely satisfying. Your current situation and your contentment with it are also very important,
and having goals and milestones to work toward in the future keeps you motivated and keeps life
interesting and challenging.
In this age in which we live, success is generally measured by the amount of money you earn, or
the amount of wealth or power or number of promotions you've accumulated. I find that the older I
grow, the more I view the people who are most happy and content with their lives as the most
successful. Rich, poor or in between, they've tended to treat life as a journey, not a final destination.
They took that trip when they were 25 even though they really couldn't afford it, they ordered the
$55 bottle of wine with their filet because they knew that even though it was expensive it would
enhance the meal so much more than water would. They took a chance on a start–up company,
moved to Europe or Asia and experienced things that most people only dream about. If they managed
to grow wealthy from the experience, so much the better. As long as moderation with most things is
practiced, things won't spin out of control.
Bottom line rules for a successful life:
Always try new things.
Listen twice as much as you talk.
Travel as much as you can comfortably afford.
